Let me play devils advocate real quick. Ranks 9-10 are on the edge of purple ranks. I'm not saying the system is perfect, I completely agree it's messed up sometimes. But think about this. How would you get better if you don't play people better than you? If you're constantly playing people you can stomp, you'll never advance your skill set. Maybe look at any mistakes you made that match that survivors capitalized on, and work on fixing those so they don't happen again?
Now I don't think you should be playing against all red ranks, but I do think that if you're closing in on the next ranks, then you should have to play with one rank higher survivors. I.e. if you're rank 9 you should have to play against purple ranks. Cause if you want to rank up you should have to earn it.
I think it should be more like a spectrum. If you are rank 10, you play against mostly green ranks and occasionally purple ranks. But if you're rank 9 trying to get to purple ranks you have to play against purple rank survivors. Then once you're rank 8 you play against green and purple. Rank 7 only purple. Rank 6 purple with some red. Rank 5 only against red. This should transition you well into higher ranks as long as you actively try to learn and get better.

Or maybe they're just looking for new build ideas? ^.^ lol

Doctor infinite notifications builds
Perks: thrill of the hunt, iron maiden, Tinkerer, overcharge/devour hope/infectious fright
Addons: iridescent king/king
Offering: any small map
Objective of this build is to have constant notifications at all times going off. Anytime they're doing anything you get a notification lol

Just slug, tunnel and camp like 90% of the killers out there.
This is for creative fun builds lol not boring gameplay

I'm gonna have fun regardless lol
But please don't nerf my killers more o.o

Not really a dirty build, but definitely a fun one.
Wraith: Play With Your Food, Nemesis, Make Your Choice, Furtive Chase.
Cloak each time you chase the obsession to get a stack. You're fast. It's not exactly practical, you probably won't win games against good survivors, but man is it fun to move that fast.
I'd like to try this because it does sound like a lot of fun. It seems like you'd have a lot of ways to mess with survivors too, Which is always fun lol

Perks: Ruin, Hunters Lullaby, Whispers and BBQ&Chilli
I've had games of 0 gens done to 2 gens done... with a couple games that 3 gens were done but no games had all gens done... survivors either die or got hatch oh and more RBT kills then hatch escapes... and a match where I had 2 RBT kills along side DC's
hahauahauauahaha
Ooo that does sound dirty lol
-
I was asking because those gens took a lot longer than a minute lol but I noticed something that might help too. Once you get past the first 2 hooks/gens, you have to start focusing on just one side of the map and applying pressure. Think of it like a battle Royal where they start reducing the map, same concept. You gotta force them into that little area by making those the gens they need to escape. I've had games where I was losing terribly, 3 gens done in the first minute with 0 downs or hooks from me. But I turned the matches around and 4k because I reduce the effective map range. Sure they can go to the other side of the map, but they're not going to accomplish anything because there's no objectives left. So they're focused to come to my area. It takes a bit to learn effective ranges and how to set it up, but once you do you'll increase how well you do by a lot.
-
That might be why. Great perks for finding people, and a little bit of help looping, but not much else to slow any aspect of the . And your finding perks are great if they're close by, but if not you're gonna be in the dark about survivor location. I'd suggest trying out discordance for a little while to learn survivor spawn and movements. Knowing survivor spawn points on different maps helps a ton. Discordance can take away some of the guess work, whole also telling you which gen to focus on because it means there's more than one survivor there. As for as slowing the game down, there's other perks besides just gen focused perks. Slowing down healing can be a huge way to stall games. Distressing and unnerving seem like they're not that great together, but when put together they're amazing, and can fit into a lot of great builds. Simply adding overcharge to that combo slows the game down, and makes it easy to locate them when they miss those pesky skill checks. Hope this helps a little.
-
I do think gen rushing is a thing, but I also agree it's not every game. Now if they're all running prove thyself, with all purple toolboxes with spare parts, and they have a leader Dwight, I'm probably thinking they're a gen rush team lol. Luckily, that's very rare.
One of my favorite builds now, that I have tons of success on, have 0 gen slowdown perks and I still 3-4k quite often, and pip most games. It's usually distressing, unnerving pressence, coulrophobia, and either sloppy butcher, or make your choice with an add on that adds the mangled status effect. It works wonders. Usually 2-3 gens might get done, but after that the match slows to a crawl with them getting constantly hooked or healing.
Occasionally I might switch out sloppy for overcharge if I THINK it's going to be a SWF, but it's not a requirement. I love this build and it works most games.
-
It's only the longest if you let it be. I see this a lot, and it happens to me even sometimes. You get focused on that first down too much. You get the first hit and then you start tunneling cause you want that down. And goes back to my previous point, if you know you're on a map with a lot of good loops and pallets connected, break the chase. Get a hit in, maybe 1-2 pallets to weaken the loops later on, and then leave them and head into the opposite direction. 9 out of 10 times you'll find another survivor on a gen, Because survivors try NOT to lead you to their teammates. They want you focused on them. So break that mindset, leave them and do what they don't want you to do
-
What were your perks like? Perks can have a huge impact on the game too. But I agree that if you can tell the survivor is running to a strong loop, and you don't have a good set up to combat loops, or if you can tell they're an extremely good Looper, or if you can tell they're purposely running from a certain objective, just break the chase.
Usually if I can tell they're running with a purpose, I.e. leading me away from a certain gen, I'm gonna turn tail and go back to that area. I commonly find 2-3 of their friends on the gen and can get 1-2 hits in. Which forces them to waste time healing or to risk being downed later.
Another helpful tip, Usually, and especially with SWF groups, there's a weak link. There's always that one survivor that's just not very good at looping. I'll try to find them and pick on them at the beginning of the match. Because their friends are used to carrying them through games and will try to save them every time. Which gives me time to pressure other survivors.

Just use Plaid Flannel lol
That's even worse lol I tried that after the first basement teleportation extravaganza. Every time I'd go to blink to a survivor they'd go behind a wall and it would just cancel my blink. Like the animation would go, and I would be dazed, but I wouldn't move anywhere. I actually captured that one on video too. Nurse is all wonky these days, which is sad because I love her aesthetic
-
Why is no one else talking about the random basement blinks? Lol is it just me? Like go to blink to someone outside a structure, randomly blink to the basement. Go to blink out, won't let you blink out. Have to actually walk out and by that time the survivor is long gone. This happens constantly to me. I could be aiming for the sky and end up in the basement lol then it becomes impossible to pass through again.

You neglect Trapper? ;( Why?
Because I HHHAAAAAATTTTTTTTEEEEEDDDDDDDDD him at first. Like with a passion. My traps were always deactivated, they were easy to see, he always just became an M1 killer for me... Then came the Tomes. I wanted to complete it and that required the trapper. Then I started playing him more and getting good with my traps. Watching people repeatedly get caught in my traps was very satisfying. That and some of the addons are actually good. So he's been growing on me, I've been leveling him and playing him more, getting better each time. He'll never be my No. 1, but he's definitely better now.
-
Because unless you're just a god and perfect blink with her every time, she's very perk/add on heavy. She also does take a lot of skill to learn. Like I love nurse, love her power, her looks, her lore, everything about her. But I was dumb and didn't practice with her or level her while I was in low ranks. Now I'm in high ranks with no decent perks or addons for her. So every time I take her into my games, even if my blinks are good and I apply pressure well, I don't have the stuff to stall the game, so I get stomped by these red rank survivors who only play the same survivors with all tier 3 survive perks like DS, DH, sprint burst, borrowed time, iron will. It's not impossible to win those games, just unlikely. Usually the gens get rushed and I just don't have time to practice her blinks during a match.
But that's probably why you don't see many, just too much skill required and nowhere to practice her without getting stomped and deranking cause of it.
-
Depends. I've found some games where I get stomped on, but that's usually because I'm playing high rank survivors and I'm using killers that I'm still leveling up, like my very neglected trapper :'(
But if I'm playing games with killers that I already have leveled up and have decent perks and addons, I usually still 3-4k even against really good survivors.
So I'd say if you're leveling killers, expect to stay around green/purple ranks lol
-
Killer: Huntress with iridescent head. And then a dirty, dirty expose build lol NOED, make your choice, iron maiden or devour hope, and haunted grounds.
Survivor: baby dwit, with self case, unbreakable, ds, and sprint burst.

I've had some matches against very optimal SWF teams where the gens get done in the first 4 minutes and the game is over with not long after that. But it doesn't happen most games, and those are few and far in between. And usually when that happens and I actually take time to reflect on what went wrong, it can usually be traced back to a few mistakes I made on my part.
1. Bad combination of perks and add-ons where I was trying a new build and either it doesn't have synergy, or I hadn't figured out how to make that build work yet.
2. I tunneled at the beginning and got caught up in a chase too long. I.e. not really paying attention. It happens to everyone, even at high ranks. You play a few games getting back to back 4ks and then you start getting lazy or not playing optimally.
3. Bad map to killer combo. Like I got a huge map on a slow killer and didn't focus on my objective of controlling one side of the map. Maybe I was trying to pressure the whole map instead of one side and playing to my strengths. Maybe I spent too much time trying to protect a totem or something.
My point is, I 3-4k most games even at high rank without ruin or corrupt. The gen rush games are usually few and far in between, and most are due to my own personal mistakes in game. But mistakes happen, and you can't expect to be perfect every single game. I don't think gens are entirely responsible. Although I would like to see new objectives be introduced, I don't feel like it's current state is impossible to win at.
-
Forgetting to grab healthy survivors when they go for the hatch instead of hitting them. I forget.... Every. Single. Time. Smh
-
I run,
Overcharge: deals with pesky gens and helps locate them when they miss it, which is a surprising amount.
Coulrophobia: to reduce healing in my giant terror radius
Unnerving pressence: increase the chance for skill checks while they're healing and making overcharge harder to hit
Distressing: obviously works well with everything in this kit.
Then I'll usually run both red rooks on the perks if I'm gunning for a 4k.
This build slows the game down a lot in the mid game, is very easy to find survivors with thanks to my rooks, and easy to end chases as well. Very tough and annoying to deal with.
-
I usually do that... But this time it just felt.. Wrong. I know, and she knows, that she should've had that hatch lol

my only issue with this is that it also puts you in a bad position too. it's not gonna be long until they're able to just kamikazee gens with self-care if you aren't playing someone with expose/aoe like Myers/Leatherface. playing Wraith or Trapper this quickly becomes a sort of war of a thousand cuts that you can very easily lose in the end. i feel like this is the most effective strategy for killers now, but it requires putting yourself in a very shaky position and just exposes a flaw in the way the game flows right now.
I can agree that this isn't for every killer. Ones that have high mobility like wraith, nurse, spirit, and Billy, keeping to one side of the map is not the most optimal way to play. They're best at hit and run tactics, slugging, things like that. They have other strategies for them. Same thing with stealth killers, they're best for sneaking up and pressuring people when they least expect it. But control killers like doctor, freddy, hag, clown, this strategy is amazing for them. So many killer mains try to take killers like that and make them have full map pressure like high mobility killers, and then get upset when it doesn't work. Trapper you can definitely use this strategy with though. Because most of the time when survivors realize you've 3 gen them, they'll start doing a gen, then take a hit and run away. They hope you'll chase them. But instead just trap a random spot and go back to pressuring gens. You can get a lot of traps in a small area. I did this on Yokomo estate and got a good 16 trap catches in single map. Eventually I got so sad that all the survivors were trapped or down that I let them wiggle free and finish the gens. It was beautiful :'D
-
If I need the early game presence, corrupt and discordance are my way to go. Easy to prioritize gens with discordance. This combo makes it easier to find survivors. But I don't use new ruin. It's laughable now

And I think you summed up part of the problem right there... a lot of people don't want to play killer because they don't find it fun. I mean, if you don't want to do it, then it's not surprising others don't want to do it, either, right?
For me, during the daytime, survivor queues are normally quick while killer queues are long. In the evening, when more people are playing, survivor queues are long while killer queues are instant. I just play whichever role has the shorter queue time, or if I don't want to do that, I play a different game. But I'm not gonna play lobby simulator, because no one finds it fun to spend more time waiting than actually in a match.
#same
-
I play survivor during the day with 1-2 minute wait times, but the wait for killer is 10-15 minutes. At night it's reversed and easier to find killer games.
-
Idk about ps4 but I've never had Q times on Xbox and that's all solo from rank 20-4 \_O.O_/
-
I don't believe you're sweaty for not committing to an impossible loop. It's just being smart. There's 1 gen that needs to be done and 3 gens left on the map, why waste your time chasing one person. Because if you chase that person the whole time you're tunneling, but if you don't you're sweaty? I think these are more just phrases that people use when they don't know how to handle different or difficult strategies. They expect you to chase one survivor for 5 minutes while all the others complete all the generators and then have all 4 of them escape with no issues. It's what they want and expect. So if you deviate from that, and they can't handle it, they're gonna create some reason in their head to explain away their inability to adapt to something that goes against what they normally deal with.
Either way, you're getting flamed at the end. If they run you for 5 gens and escape they call you a tunneling noob who needs to get good. If you 4k them they call you sweaty. If I'm getting flamed regardless, then yeah I'm killing some people and getting my bloodpoints lol.
-
I'd drop the chase. If I know I'm headed to an infinite loop I'll drop the chase and apply pressure elsewhere unless they're the last survivor. Because you'll never catch them and lose objectives. Go back, hit someone that's on the gens. They either have to heal, or risk getting hit again. I don't really slug either though. I'm not making it impossible for the survivors. I'm gonna hook my downed person, then go pressure a gen. Sure it gives them more chance to win if I'm not slugging, but slugging and 3 gen together just isn't fun to anyone.

I see. Thank you for the info. But lets say, there is a god loop on the map. And these survivors are only running towards it, and through it to the point where if you do chase them it means dropping the gens, and a chance at the other survivors?
Omg.... A positive response... What is this feeling???? I... I don't know what to do with my hands... Thank you sir! :D
-
Hey no spoilers! I haven't played through 2 yet -_-
......she does look creepy though lol
-
it would definitely be creepy and terrifying. And that's all I want this game to be, a horror survival game :'D
-
You CAN get banned if you are purposefully holding people hostage and not hitting or hooking anyone. However you're not going to get banned for just slowing the game down during the mid game. If I run a 3 gen strat it usually takes 5-8 minutes to get to that mid game. Usually by this time I've already hooked a survivor and injured another. Then when I have my area I'll patrol it. It makes it more difficult to complete the objectives but not impossible. And I do engage chases and hook survivors still. But I'll have a radius that I won't go past. Survivors will try to get you to tunnel after them on the opposite side of the map in order for the other 3 to pop the remaining gens. There's nothing wrong with breaking a chase early to keep this from happening. And most of my matches don't go past 15 minutes with this strat. So yeah if you abuse it and hold them hostage, you'll get banned. But if you're just using the strategy to outsmart survivors and you still keep the game moving, i.e going for hooks and kills, you shouldn't be banned.
-
I don't want ridiculous reductions to gen speeds. I don't think it's the underlying issue for most people actually. I don't think ruin nerf is a problem either. I think fast games are a problem. Whether I win or lose, if a match only last 5-8 minutes it's just not fun. Match times being shorter than Q times isn't fun. I want to actually be in the game having fun. Not 10-15 minutes in Q with 5 minutes of action. Anything to increase match length would be welcome lol
-
I understand that, and I did agree, the design team is great. I mean just look at Lerys. But these are just the ones I'd like to see. Sure they've had some ok franchise ones like Bubba, but they've had great ones too like the demogorgon. I would like to see some more of their own as well, but I really want these two lol
-
I'm aware lol it'd be amazing and they'd be fun additions if they could.
-
I don't feel like the ruin changes are really that big of a deal. I understand that the devs are trying to balance the game. But seriously???? Where's my Pinhead? I want pinhead as the next killer or I'm gonna write a mild letter to your parents. :P
-
I also think they should remove red stains, heart beat, and scratch marks altogether and implement a mechanic that keeps killers from hook camping. This will require more strategy on both sides and be a lot scarier.
-
I don't think they're going to change 3 gen strategies without having to change map layout which will probably fix infinite loops anyways. I think cutting off one part of the map and focusing that part, instead of the whole map, is a lot smarter and works in most of my games. Does it work every single time? No, nothing works 100% of the time, in anything. But I've had it work on large maps like coldwin and McMillan just last night with a level 1 doctor with only monitor and abuse and no add-ons. It does require set up in the beginning, and you do have to be smart about it. Set up on one side, prioritize objectives.
1. Gens that are close together
2. The strength of nearby loops and pallets
3. Is your totem if you have one within this area?
Not all these things are gonna line up perfectly but it's not just GG if they don't. If you prioritize in this order you'll find it a lot easier.
Try and chase someone in your area at the beginning of the match so they don't have nearby pallets later on. It's okay if this part doesn't always happen. But a big thing is stay away from the middle of the map!!! They usually feature large survivor friendly structures that waste your time. If it's not too far out of your way you can apply pressure here but it's not a priority. Are there ways to counter this? Yes. But most people don't realize you're doing it until it's too late. I 3-4k most games like this regardless of killer/map. You just have to be smart about it.

@Xetoil said:
I don't want to go into this topic at depth in this comment because it really is a topic you can go into great detail about, but the one thing I see that separates brown/green killers from purple is not how good they are at chasing, its where there priorities are at.
Priorities which help me win games are:
- Choosing which gens I can leave and which have to be protected at all costs
- Choosing which pallets to force the survivor to drop & kick them asap, and which ones to attempt to get a hit at
- Choosing when to drop a chase and go to gens, and when to follow through and get a hit
Playing killer at midranks IMO is barely even about chasing, (most survivors at midranks are not going to know every tile so thoroughly that you need to play it in the most precise way) it's about resource management (pallets) and area control (gen priority), and also learning the habits of the individual survivors so you can either catch them out of position (negating a long chase), or beat them at mindgameable pallets.
On the flip side, a good survivor will lead you on chases in areas which have a lot of pallets, preserve pallets around important gens for use in the late-game, and study how the killer plays/where he is likely to be in order to maximize their time on gens.
Applying pressure can potentially be summed up as
- Determine Which gens the survivors are prioritizing (B)
- Determine Which gens the killer should be prioritizing (A)
- Destroy all pallets around A/stop the completion of A, whilst delaying the progress of B
Just want to point out that this is a huge simplification, but its a starting point.
I completely agree with this. Now more than ever the game is mid/end game focused for killers, and it's important to have a strategy as the killer. It's not just about chasing, and that's why higher ranked killers don't feel as bad about the recent changes.
A lot of my games I spend the beginning of my games on setup.
1. Find a good area with few loops and 3-4 gens bunched together.
2. Find a survivor and push them into that area so that they break all of the pallets in the early game. So that come late game they don't have them.
3. Dominate and push survivors out of that area until they've finished the other generators
This is a great strategy that I use a lot in most matches because of the difficulty to play against this. It's tricky to master because it requires a little foresight, and then being able to get the pallets in your area in the early game. But most times survivors don't know what you're doing, they think you're just bad. But then they look up, they only have 2 gens left to go, and then they realize they've three gen themselves.
I did this twice last night as a prestiged rank 1 doctor and 4k both times against red and purple rank SWF, one on coldwin, the other on McMillan. Both were large maps, but using this method I cut the map in half and only had to apply pressure to one side. You can win most matches like this. You just gotta know when to break chases, and like they said above, know which objectives to prioritize.
-
That's what I'm saying though. It wouldn't if we had more randomness. Like take away those three things, terror radius, scratch marks, and red stain, and then implement a mechanic to where killers can't just camp hooks, and then bam! Requires a lot more skill on both sides, and offers tons of ways to be scary. Add in some map reworks like we got on Lerys and you have yourself a horror survival game.
-
Yeah I get that. It'd be different if they added some randomness to it. Like a way to jump out and scare people. Or if they got rid of scratch marks the red stain and the terror radius, just those 3 things would make it terrifying with all the diverse killers they have now.
-
Step 1: find corner
Step 2: try not to cry
Step 3: cry a lot
-
You haven't told me anything though. You talked about yourself a lot though lol said nothing about playing the game
-
Without a snowball where survivors are constantly trading hooks, no. It's not gonna happen. There's just too many generators to pressure ALL of them. It's best to find a good half of the map, with 3-4 gens bunched together in that area, and then dominate that area. Even if they complete 3 gens, they'll eventually be forced to come to your side in order to finish and escape. You're pretty much forcing them to 3 gen themselves. Nothing works 100% of the time, but this strategy works a good portion of the time.
-
Or try this,
Play doctor, use these perks: overcharge, bbq, corrupt, overwhelming pressence.
Corrupt pushes them in closer, shock blast to find someone, down and hook your first survivor, find the next one with bbq, if none or only one are lit up, it means they're close by so you can just shock blast to find them. Don't forget to kick any active generators to apply overcharge. You'd be surprised how many miss that skill check which also tells you where they're at and allows you to pressure them.
-
Nah lol this is gold my dude.
-
Matches are gonna be mid to late game now. Just gonna have to adapt to that. My perks now usually go as follow: 1 early game perk like corrupt or discordance to help me find survivors early, then I focus the other perks on slowing some aspect of the game. If it's gens, then I'll run overcharge and pop, along with a late game perk that helps boost speed.
Or if I focus slowing down healing I'll run bloody butcher, cholorophobia, and overwhelming presence. Cause more time spent healing=less time on the last 2-3 gens. This usually works and only 1 or none of the survivors escape.
