they're all pretty bad. not like it matters because their passive abilities all get 60 second cooldowns after using them (or not using them, looking at Fearmonger). They don't really matter that much.

this. nobody actually bothers to read the lore themselves, they just listen to youtubers regurgitate a shorthand version of it. so when someone like Pixelbush gets pissy and twists the lore to his own vision to claim BHVR is "betraying the original character" (even tho due to Multiverse #########, it wouldn't matter anyways and your good guy nurse is still out there)

Krause and Unknown have basically the exact same method for being able to injure and down with their power. Hit a shot, follow up to damage. Same with Nemesis. But Krause needs survivors to go run and eat a mushroom, and Nemesis has a limited number of cures in the trial. So why does Unknown have the easiest requirement ever, that does not slow down or inconvenience survivors in the slightest?
I don't think the surv should have go to run off and interact with an object, I do think having to look at Unknown is good design, but 10 seconds, combined with the "buffer" that gives a survivor another free second even after the killer breaks LoS, is just stupid.
Thematically speaking, a survivor cowering behind a rock watching the Unknown chase someone else doesn't really seem like Facing The Unknown and overcoming your fear… IMO a nice minimum QoL change would be to make it so you can only Stare Down in chase, and the meter fills back up when out of chase/hiding. -

Because killers arent held in a match for 4 mins and always move the game by just pushing survivors out.
Comparing 4k slugs to killers getting t-bagged in endgame is like conparing a nuke to a coughing baby.
"I dont want to t-bagged"
I dont want to get tunneled,
I dont want to get humped, just for looping longer than 30s.
I dont want to have 50 s-tier matches in a row.
too bad, you will have to deal with it. Just like survivors get toxicity from killers without a way to escape.
You wont like that answer but its what its designed for, not just to "avoid the toxicity" otherwise the dc button would have no penalty.
BHVR has already implemented a feature where getting slugged too much in a match lets survivors ragequit, so we've obviously gone past the point of "erm! abandoning is only for when you cant do anything!!! you can still do stuff in EGC as the killer just try harder!!!" and is basically just "okay this match might be making you mad so here your BHVR-sanctioned gonext"

- Personal experience. The game never really ends for the killer; you can always hope for a kill, even if the survivors are toxic and waiting at the gate. And if the survivors make a lot of mistakes... even more than one kill. Perhaps this is why the killer can never "abandon" the game, because he's in a position where (even if very difficult) he can always hope to gain something from a bad game. The survivor, down from slugging, literally can't do anything.

i dont see the difference for the survivor, match ends when they walk an inch out the gate or ends when the killer abandons. either way match ends, survivors won. bots not needed
he wants there to be a bot he can tbag, it makes him feel better than just escaping as soon as possible like a normal person.

It’s not hard to just push them out. Survivors can abandon because it doesn’t affect you at all. If killer abandons, the game is over for everybody. It makes sense to me.
Is it hard to watch a 5 second mori animation? Apparently it is, because every survivor just leaves the second they get downed as the last one alive.
But walking across the map, possibly to both gates, so I can watch some smug ######### spam crouch at me? I HAVE to do this? it is utterly ESSENTIAL to the DBD experience? just admit you want to be able to gloat and BM over your victory and move on.
Being able to abandon in this situation changes nothing. Id much prefer if the Killer could abandon and everyone just escapes automatically (which they could do whenever they want, but they'd rather be annoying), but if BHVR needs to replace the Killer with a bot so the survivors can get their precious tbagging off, so be it. -

What single Killer addon can swing a match as much as a brown medkit with a styptic. One endurance hit can do so much, especially against M1 killers with all the pallets there are now.
-
Survivors mad about more DC penalties? Have they considered just not DCing? It puts a big smile on my face whenever some loser ragequits against me knowing they're actually being punished

Survivor mains are always saying stuff like this. If the killer thinks they can do something during Endgame, they won't Abandon. If the killer thinks they've lost, they can Abandon. It's not my job as Killer to entertain you during the last minute of your victory as you tbag at the exit gates, especially considering most survivors won't even stick around for a Mori.

3 years ago when Knight was released some players were banned for up to a month, for a first time offence, even within a week of his chapter launch, because of an issue with his orb getting bugged and giving unintended haste effects if stunned while summoning guards. You had previously made a comment earlier during the summer of that same year, regarding Blood Pact and Object of Obsession giving permanent aura reading, that you did not ban for bugs (maybe specifically for perks) when the killswitch was an option.
So is abuse of bugs regarding killer basekit no longer a bannable offense? Further, if exploiting perks or basekits is no longer a bannable offense, what is the proper scenario to report a player under the Exploits category?
it's simple, if its a Killer abusing the bug they get banned, if its a survivor they dont.

The Deep Rift system was already fine. people who buy the Rift get access to the cosmetics early, but if they grind some more they get their own special little version. People who didn't buy the rift can get the same outfit later from the store. Why do they want the Deep Rift version? It's just a recolor, and some would say it looks worse than the original in most cases. It's purpose is to be a flex that showed you played for a long time, but the original outfit is always available for people who just like the vibe.
Call me selfish or greedy or fun-hating or whatever. If you wanted the funny blue recolor, maybe you should have bought the rift?
-
My list of Dredge Buff Ideas as a P70+ player at the time of writing
1. Reduce/Remove power cooldown at the start of match.
2. Injuring and Hooking survivors during nightfall extends the duration
3. Remove the loud locker teleport noise, at least during Nightfall
4. Remove the glowing effect on the Dredge during NightfallAND MOST OF ALL:
PAUSE NIGHTFALL WHEN CARRYING A SURVIVOR! Why does the S Tier killer Kaneki Ken get a pause put on his 40 or 50 second Enrage when hooking, but Dredge has to waste precious seconds carrying people around -
90% of survivors can't even be bothered to sit and watch a 5 second Mori animation, they would rather insta abandon the match. So why do Killers have to wait out their lost match for TWO MINUTES until the survivors leave at the last second of EGC?
Survivor players like to bring up that they're just saving time, getting into a new match by abandoning as quick as possible. Where is this urge to quickly exit the game when they're the ones who won? -
@cogsturning said:
I'm all for DCing without penalty but what's the point of DCing at that particular point? You're saving yourself seconds.
Survivors hate having to acknowledge that they have lost the match and died. It's why they instantly DC the second the last survivor hits the floor. Can't handle the humiliation.
But, when they're the ones who win, you can bet 100 cakes that they'll be sitting at that exit gate tbagging until the very last second -
This lack of any meaningful surrender ability for Killers, combined with every survivor instantly quitting out of the game to avoid the "humilitation" of being Mori'd has just led me to advance my sore winning methods even further. For example, killing two survivors, slugging one, and just chasing the other one around, refusing to down them or hook the other guy, until the second person eventually bleeds out after 4 minutes of doing nothing, and then finding and closing the hatch, and preventing the last survivor from opening exit gates either until they die to EGC.
Now, since this is obviously an unwinnable scenario for the survivors at this point, especially against certain Killers (example: Wraith can easily bodyblock exitgates whenever the last survivor approaches them) we should just let survivors abandon once they're down to 2 and one is slugged. Right? -
@DeBecker said:
Nobody is forcing anyone to tunnel. And if you fail to hit the unhooker thats 99% your own fault.
wow, we already got one. So, since you're so good at preventing bodyblocks, whats your strategy for getting past them?

The plus side in this scenario is that the killer also gets the option to abandon game. Once all 4 survivors are bots, you can leave too without penalty.
they get the choice to abandon… which is entirely in the Survivors control. Do people seriously not see the difference here? Survivor losing/lost the match, just get downed and then DC. Killer lost/losing the match, have to force survivors out at exit gate while watching them tbag, or hide in a corner until the last second of the endgame timer.
Or to give another example. a SWF that absolutely hates some specific killer. They see this killer, and all run to Shack or main or where-ever and all get downed, then DC. Previously, a killer whos feeling mean could have just bled them out to be toxic, but now this issue is solved, which is great. Now imagine there's a Killer who absolutely doesn't want to play against a certain map, or some other equally stupid reason to not want to play a match. What can they do? Hide in a corner, AFK, until the survivors decide to do every gen and leave. Both of these scenarios are equally invalid imo, but one side has the easy way out and the other doesn't. -

Survivors can basically quit the match whenever they want by giving up and letting the Killer down everyone.
while a Killer is stuck playing out every single match, no matter how badly they want to leave it.
lets the last survivor DC early to avoid seeing the Killer actually mori them. Which are both just pathetic reasons to leave
Do you understand the words you're using? Survivors can quit "whenever they want" but the catalyst is everyone has to be downed... doesn't sound as on-command as you're making it out.
You're not stuck no matter what. If those 4 Survivors you've just downed left the match to move on, you're also given the option to end the game.
You have an issue with someone not being forced to watch your mori animation? Like that's the fuss? You've won the game already and but you're not happy cause they dont watch your victory lap? Might want to dig deep to find out what that's all about...
Four survivors can't decide to get downed "on command"? Okay, say you're playing Killer and all four survivors run right up to you and just start throwing the match, not doing anything but following you around tbagging or whatever. What do you do? You down them all. Now they've all DC'd. If a SWF was only interested in bullying, farming clips, or just didn't want to play against any strong/annoying killer, that's all they have to do. Whats the Killer gonna do? Not down them? At that point, you're the one giving them a free win.
And regarding everyone here who seems to thing that my big issue is I don't get to gloat over doing a funny animation, if I wanted to force people to watch Moris, I would just bring an actual mori, not use the Finisher. These people who instantly abandon the game the second they've "lost" have bigger ego issues than i ever will. -
@CrypticGirl said:
Actually, the surrender is the same as a DC; it still leaves bots in the Survivor's place. The only difference is that it allows you to avoid the penalty and keep your bp and xp under very specific circumstances.
Yeah. That's not my point. It allows Survivors to leave matches whenever they want by having everyone get downed, or lets the last survivor DC early to avoid seeing the Killer actually mori them. Which are both just pathetic reasons to leave, and shouldn't be a mechanic.

What is the entity anyway? Like, what does it look like, fully? I only see it's icky spider legs.
The Entity is literally everything in the trials (pallets, buildings, loops, the ground, the walls, the fog, the generators, the exit gates, the totems, lockers, some killer items, etc.) , along with the other realms like the Campfire and Void. The only exceptions are living creatures like the Survivors, Killers, Crows, and Rats, and a few unique structures like maybe the Observer's Tower. The reason it can turn into all of this stuff is because it is made up of raw Auric Cells, or at least is able to manipulate them with an incredible degree of control.
Basically, if a killer wouldn't be able to survive the ground beneath them suddenly turning into giant impaling spikes, or dropping them into a soul-destroying nightmare dimension, they wouldnt stand a chance. And even if that wouldn't KILL them (looking at Pyramid head, myers, and some others here) the Entity could just teleport them to a prison where they are unable to do any harm.

given that its the entity's realm, i would assume that when building the worlds it drops the survivors and killers in, it takes chunks of pre-existing familiar structures and just hoshposhes it together like a really ugly collage. it'd be a fun way to explain why some buildings are structured the way they are!
this is confirmed how the realms function. the entity doesnt really understand how reality works so it just mashed together random piles of garbage into a way that works for the trials but doesnt make sense in real life

maybe if we're lucky it will be in the Tomes or the until dawn type game

i agree with this post, just one small correction about the War is Hell outfit. There is most likely a Greek inspired Lost Realm in the fog, since the Minotaur is stated to have been created from the memories of some survivors (presumably, ancient greek ones).

If it fed on memories without any preference, why is horror such a persistent theme?
The Trials literally collapse after they finish, and the end-game screens all show the characters walking through black fog.
Most characters describe walking through a black mist.
More importantly, I’m talking from the viewpoint that there are two “Entities”. One calling itself The Entity, orchestrating the Trials we experience, gathering power from these sacrifices.
And then there is the Eldritch dimensional being/universe that is the core for these events and happenings in the first place.
This Entity, is infinite in scale. It works off of the multiverse. I’d even warrant The Trials we play are canon.
One is the Apple that falls from a tree, and the other is the gravity causing it to fall.
You keep asking about a why, looking for a reason for things like why cosmetics appear, I posit that there is no reason, simply the happenstance from the literal chaos that is an infinite pool of memories being twisted and churned on universal scales.
Cultists worshiping the encroachment of this eldritch force, or inhabitants of the fog reaching into other universes where the veil is thinnest, or most catalyzing.
You seem so focused on the Trials but forget that The Dredge was created by Otto Stamper through experimentation with this force. The house of Arkham, the Observers Tower, if you’re so focused on reasons, why is that allowed?
- the entity is sentient and intelligent, it feeds on memories of horror because fear is the most delicious emotion to it
- what does this prove?
- again, what point does this prove?
- this is just straight up not true. the Entity is both the Trials and the Realms. it is every pallet, generator, wall, and window.
- again, there are not two Entities. the Mad Architect isnt even a real character and has never been mentioned even a single time.
- you dont need this stupid explanation to prove that trials are canon. they already are which is proven by actual lore.
- what does this even mean?
- we literally have in game cosmetics with descriptions describing how they were created from memories and given by the Entity
- what does the Black Vale have to do with this?
- the Dredge being created by Stamper doesnt prove anything about your point. its already been established that anybody can manipulate Auric Energy, its just that the Entity is so incredibly powerful that nobody else is able to manipulate the Cells that it has

Have you read the archives?
The entity is a dimension of memories that feeds off the fears of those in other universes. Being a universe made of living memory, the memories of those it feeds on slosh around the miasma of jumbled and 'digested' memories/emotion. Effectively being a chaotic hellscape.
The Trials are a subset, with structure, and whose structure can be approached via the idea of infinity a la the Library of Babel, or through directed intent, ironically also part of the approach when considering the Library of Babel.
i have read the archives. and you're wrong about several things there.
"feeds off fears of those in other universes" wrong, it only takes memories from those it captures
"miasma of jumbled and digested memories" wrong. even outside of the trials (aka the Lost Realms) each realm still holds together and doesnt completely collapse into random garbage.
and for whatever that last point is which i cant even attempt to understand. the Entity created the trials. the Mad Designer doesnt do anything even close to that. they write stories about killers and survivors in other universes and design the masquerade outfits.
the proof of the Entity being in charge is literally so obvious, the entire game is full of evidence. in the tutorial "the voices" tell you to hook survivors for the Entity. and the perk Whispers is stated to be the voice of the Entity. if it had nothing to do with the trials, why would it be encouraging Killers to partake? when you dont get enough hooks, the entity is Displeased. why would it care if its not running the trials? why would it torture trapper and others into doing its work if it doesnt run the trials? why would it influence the Legion or Artist their entire lives if it didnt want them to be killers in the trials that it runs? why would it give killers cosmetics (the Bloodstained Sack DLC is stated to have literally dropped sack of outfits from the sky for the killers, legion bunny outfits have the same explanation). why would it literally create the Minotaur directly out of the memories of some survivors?
i could list every single game mechanic and random bit of lore that proves you wrong, but it would take hours.

The nuances of the Trials themselves might not be a direct result of The Entity, but perhaps a "subsidiary". Someone, something trying to utilize the Auric Power this hope and dashing of hope provides for their own purposes. Utilizing purpose and apathy.
There is The Entity, and the Mad Designer. They are not the same, as The Entity could very well embody the idea of Death itself. The fear of cessation to exist.
The Mad Designer has simply latched onto that idea, that concept, in order to fulfil their own desire to continue. To design, and see what happens. And so they've created The Trials. To fuel their passion, to see what happens.
no, everything in the trials is being designed by the Entity itself. in a meta way, you could think of BHVR as the Entity, choosing how the maps are created and how the powers work.
but everyone else here has it just about correct. the Entity places down the pallets, windows, loops, gens, exit gates etc. so that survivors keep thinking that they can actually get out of there. feeding on emotion and whatnot. and the Entity isnt really biased to one side or the other lorewise, even though there are a lot of Killer perks and mechanics that summon the entity to block gens/windows/exit gate, survivors are capable of using these powers as well
-
there are three options
given by the entity (bloodstained sack, bunny legions)
taken from memories (trapper got a recolor of the wrestler outfit in a rift, the desc states it comes from a dream he had. along with a many others like the Grim Resoultions collection and basically any time a survivor is wearing something)
created by the Mad Designer (basically just Alice in Wonderland and Masquerade cosmetics)
-
seeing a celebrity in the realm isnt even a new thing. i feel like some people are forgetting stuff like Kate being a musician, Jane being a talkshow host, and Trickster being a Kpop star.
Personally, i think some of the more normal killers like ghostface would give a quick funny reaction, but the rest would just murder them like normal
as for survivors, really just depends on their personalities. and when the killer comes to murder them, they wouldnt care if it was Nic Cage or Dwight, they're getting the hell out
-
skull merchants tome was utter #########, the only reason it didnt make her worse is because it provided absolutely no meaningful information.
but i am wondering how their stories will go, considering their entire lives were covered in their character bios.
Haddie lore is basically on hold for now it seems while Saku gets the spotlight
Feng and Slinger got the last two "minor character" entries, so maybe we'll get Oni in this one.
-
great post, love seeing the connections between all the characters in DBD. but now you have to find out who Pauline Stamper is lol
-
why is Dredge in "maybe or depends"? its a flesh puppet piloted by the physical embodyment of negative emotions. even if you were to slice its head clean off, it doesnt matter since thats not even a real part of its body. not to mention it could have a ######### ton more parts hidden inside itself that it could pull out and attack you with, and thats not even considering the teleportation and the mori
-
Seeing as the generators are not even physically connected to anything besides their own attached lights, yet somehow managed to power both exit gates and lightbulbs/signs on certain maps, its safe to assume this is the Entity doing some dream logic stuff.
-
if you want to ship killers and survivors, you can just go on tumblr or twitter.
heres how it would go: the killers would attack the survivors and then put them on hooks until they die
-
None of them. The Trials and such arn't actual places that the Entity uses, they literally ARE the Entity shapeshifting into the ground, walls, objects, gens, pallets, etc.
If the Entity were to, through some deus ex machina bullshit stop existing (PiH, PyH, Myers, etc. dont stand a chance btw) then everyone would either be lost in a void between dimensions, or get kicked out back to where they belong.

He’s concerned that a “minor role” is all they are ever going to get.
pixel bush is still wrong about everything. thats literally just baseless fearmongering. "boycott tomes because your favorite character MIGHT NOT GET ONE!" also, in case you didnt know, the Minor Characters of this tome is three entries of Ashy Slashy, an entry of Feng Min, and an entry of Deathslinger. and all of them are great. not everything needs to be a 10 entry, 20 paragraph each shitshow just so "the lore guy" can make content out of hating on it. and you know what, i think characters just showing up for tiny entries like this is nothing but a good thing. they can get characterization and important info dropped about them without taking up 10 entries just to tell us "Feng Min likes this gaming cafe" or "Deathslingers father influencing how he builds machines"
-
So the fog is basically The Entity. sort of like how the Claws and the Spikes and all of the maps are also The Entity. the blight tome confirms that the fog is made up of auric cells.
"He stares at it intently and his panicking mind calms with amazement as he finds himself staring at tiny cells that undulate together like some sort of vaporous membrane."
and the Blight also confirms that the Entity uses Fog in several ways, such as poking people, turning into other objects (notice how Pallets and Breakable Walls disentigrate when you break them) and can even be used to absorb memories and project them back (Blight hallucinates the voice of someone important to him coming from within the fog)
basically, the Fog is the Entity is almost purest for, since even the Spikes and Claws need to be formed from the Fog first. Also, when you use an offering, it doesnt actually effect the fog in any way by itsself. throwing a Murky Reagent into the fire makes the Entity go "alright, murky reagent, turning the fog up for this one" same with Map Offerings or whatever else.
"Talbot leads his retinue toward a wall of fog, ignoring the gasps and sighs behind him. He stops in his tracks just before entering. Oswald announces that he thinks they should all turn back and that if they do he’ll make them a wonderful dish he learned in India. Calder says the money they are paying him makes turning back impossible. Dallin agrees with Calder. Talbot takes note of the comment, then extends a finger and pokes the almost liquid fog, and the fog extends a tendril and pokes him back. In disbelief Talbot pokes the fog again to see if he’ll stimulate a similar response.
But the fog doesn’t poke back."
"He stares at the fog for a long moment then hears Ena's voice calling out his name from within the Bleed."
-
pixel bush is wrong about everything
what part of minor character do you not understand? The Artist was a "minor character" in a tome and got like 25 ######### paragraphs in a single entry explaining her story, which is almost as much as some "major characters" with 5, 7, or 10 entries. i think that the idea was just badly explained, and people like pixel have decided to take the negative reactionary assumption because thats just what mid DBD content creators do. wait for the next Tome to judge the system.

Id also say its perfectly fine for you to like a horror movie character that for whatever reason is just an absolute monster for the sake of being one. Rich people being evil just feels worse, and more cruel, and more disturbing.
thats right, and stuff like "The Most Dangerous Game" and to some extent, "American Pyscho" do this really well. Just one problem. Skull Merchant only kills mega-billionaries to steal their stuff.
