Come on Steve, I do respect and share your love for silent hill but comparing it to stranger things?
Stranger things had a success than silent hill never had, it crossed the boundaries and became main stream.
You cannot compare a hugely successful brand, in terms of numbers of sales and views with a decently successful video game series that was literally destroyed 10 to 1 (sales wise) by his competitor resident evil.
It is a good property but, by dbd standards and number wise, it is not by any stretch a great catch.
There has been lots of books and films that were popular during their time that were soon forgotten. 20 years from now will most people know of Stranger things? Who knows. Silent Hill is still a well known game and it's more than 20 years old. Its had many sequals and even movies made after it. (Even though the films sucked that's beside the point.) Stranger Things just hasn't been around long enough to prove any kind of iconic status. That takes at least a decade.

I would agree with you if dbd wasn't dbd, BUT dbd is the game that has been able to licence giants such as:
- Halloween
- A Nightmare on elm street
- and Stranger things
And these are OBJECTIVELY big properties, Silent Hill is an absolute nothing compared to them.
It doesn't make sense to hype this chapter as iconic and a milestone in a game who already owns properties which are hugely more popular and influential than silent hill.
With their message the devs have failed to deliver because the hype they created could have been satisfied only by a property that could stand toe to toe with the 3 big ones dbd already has.
This property could ONLY be FR13, IT, Alien and maybe Chucky or Pinhead (maybe).
Pyramid head does not qualify, and I have nothing against pyramid head
Stranger Things is popular now but it has yet to prove it will stand the test of time. Silent Hill has, at least in the gamer world, stood the test of time. So in that sense it is more iconic than Stranger Things. I didnt know what Stranger Things was when it was announced. As someone who doesn't watch a lot of Nerflix I had no idea. While I'm not super familiar with the Silent Hill lore, I at least know of Silent Hill. Most gamers, even if they hadn't played the games in any depth, have heard of Silent Hill.
-
Are people exaggerating silent hill's "iconic" status. While it is probably the second most known horror video game (resident evil being 1st) there really hasn't been much competition in the video game horror market. Horror games tend to be pretty bad and made by indie developers. The fact that RE and Silent hill are decades old and there still hasn't been a horror game that beats them in popularity speaks to how poor the horror gaming market has been. But the same can be said for movies too.
On the other hand, if you are a gamer you probably know of Silent Hill and people who play Dbd are gamers, so for the intended audience it is iconic.
-
As someone who had no idea who pyramid head was, I have to say he looks really stupid. I mean, how is a guy with giant paper boat over his head suppose to be scary? But maybe he'll be fun to play. I'm just saying he looks kinda ridiculous.
-
I wouldn't consider him iconic. I had no idea who he was until I read this thread. He's really only known I think to a relatively small subset of people. Older gamers who remember playing silent hill back in the day. I played the first silent hill but found it boring and I dont really remember much from it. I never played any of the sequels. But maybe I'm wrong and this pyramid head guy is widely known and I just happen to miss the bus on it. I should go ask random strangers if they ever heard of him, I have a feeling most wouldn't.
-
You can tell the ones who never play survivor because they speak in the technical, not the practical. They throw out a bunch of numbers when anyone who actually plays survivor knows their teammates never play to 100% efficiency, probably not even half that. Cleaning all totems before endgame against a facecamping bubba is near impossible. You and your teammates (who you have no control over) have to play to near 100% efficiency and that just doesn't happen. You'll be lucky if you get survivors who actually do gens and dont all rush to the hook to be downed let alone play a perfect game.

I wouldn't say it rewards camping. If NOED exists at the end of a game where a killer camped all game and didn't defend anything, gens or totems alike, it sounds like another case of survivors just being too lazy to get the full job done. You are however right, though. Against good players, NOED means nothing for the most part. That's how you can so easily brand the ones who complain about it as mediocre at best.
Survivors only stay on the hook for so long. If a killer is camping you would be dumb to try and do both gens and totems. There isnt time. The game becomes much harder for survivors once one is dead. If three gens aren't done by the time one survivor dies, you probably aren't escaping. Camping killers force gen rush.
-
1. Not just for failing but often times for playing toxic. For instance if a killer face camps or brings an ebony mori the survivors are essentially forced to gen rush. Cleansing totems in this scenerio is just not feasible even with totem hunting perks. Especially now that many maps have been reworked to favor killers even more. Anyone who plays survivor at any considerable length understands this. NOED on a face camping leatherface is near impossible to counter.
2. I would say this is true in certain situations. Not when survivors are forced to gen rush (see 1). In situations where the killer doesn't have a mori, hasn't face camped anyone, only had hooks on a few survivors then the survivors dont need to rush the last gen and obviously had plenty of time to do totems.
3. Certainly punishes survivors for playing smart and effective in cases of ebony moris and facecamping. But if none of those are involved I would say it's a failure of killer and survivor.
4. This is the most laughable view. Killers dont protect dull totems.
5. Yes but sometimes survivors have to gen rush as stated in 1.
Basically NOED without any other toxic killer play is fine. But when you're dealing with an ebony mori killer or facecamping bubba and then have to deal with NOED at the end to top it all off it becomes stupid and broken.

Happened to me before on the lerys map. I think it has something to do with where or how the hatch spawns. If the front of the hatch spawns too close to a wall or other obstacle I think that causes the key not to work because you have to stand directly in front of the hatch to open it.
-
Keys are only good with swfs. As solo survivor keys are often not useful and more often then not they hurt the team and help the killer.
1. People with keys often stop doing the objective once the hatch spawns, hurting the team who are still trying to finish the objective.
2. People with keys often bring the game offering. The game is one of the most killer sided maps. But they bring it because it is the easiest map to find hatch. The survivor with the key is most likey just going to hide all game allowing their teammates to die so they can get the hatch in the end.
-
Now we know why she wore the baggy pants.
-
Any opinions? Maybe this is stupid idea or maybe it's too complicated or wouldn't work for a variety of reasons or maybe I'm just not explaining it well. In my head I'm just thinking this would be the coolest idea ever and that it would be super innovative and fun to play.
The basic idea is that each night one player is chosen by the killer to be the victim but nobody knows who the killer is. During the day everyone searches the house for evidence to try and figure out who the killer is. During this time the remaining survivors (and killer) can talk to each other to try and piece together what happened.
The game ends in three ways.
1. The killer is found by a majority vote
2. The survivor chosen to be the killers next victim escapes the murder attempt (but this would be very hard to pull off)
3. It comes down to the last two players and the remaining survivor must face off against the killer. During this time it would be possible for the last person to kill the killer.
Okay I'll stop talking about it now until I get some feedback. Maybe im being stupid. I sometimes have a tendacy of thinking my ideas are better than they actually are.
-
To counter cheating there would be no swf. The people who you play with will have to be chosen at random. There would be no communication except at the end of the day when everyone is voting. Mics will be enabled only for the players remaining and usernames will be hidden.
-
RE is just a little side mode for the main game, it never was meant to rival and is never going to rival DBD. DBD right now is the Madden of asymmetrical horror. They have all the licensed stuff and there is no competition. Friday the 13th was its closest competitor and that is dead now.
-
Fine with Freddy. People who do well with Freddy would probably do well with other killers as well. There is nothing op about Freddy other than he can stop survivors from abusing God loops.

My main survivor has 6 BPS and only 1 bound envelope. Ive used no envelopes but ive used at least 1 bps that i can remember.
The devs could have it programmed to where bps show up more in survivor bloodweb than bound envelope, but I doubt that is the case. I think the odds are the same for all green items.
You could flip a coin ten times, doesn't mean you are going to get heads 5 times and tails 5 times. You could get heads all ten times you flip the coin, but that doesn't change the fact that your odds of getting heads was 50% everytime.
-
@Kaiser_Emotion said:
Same reason BPS are more common than bound envelope
bps is more common than bound envelope because bps can be found on both survivor and killer bloodweb. But the chances of getting a bound envelope or bps on a survivor bloodweb is the same since they are both green offerings.

Because they removed killer offerings (for playing dlc killers). They were trash but ultra rare so ebony wasn't that common. Now with Billy or LF (both killers don't have ultra rare addons) have only chance for ebony as ultra rare item. From ultra rare mistery box on this 2 killers you have 100% for ebony. While with those trash killer offerings it was 20%
Exactly. Learherface and hillbilly get an ebony mori every bloodweb. Guaranteed. Imagine playing a hillbilly with an ebony mori every game.
My suggestion for fixing this which a lot of people might not like is to move all the map offerings into the ultra rare category. That would balance it out to where ivorys become much more common than ebony moris. Ebony moris will actually be "ultra rare" and so will red keys on the survivor side. And each time a new map is added they become even rarer.
Personally I would like a lot more bps in the game then ebony moris. I dont like the fact that each time a new map is added we are being cheated out of more blood points. Most people dont look at it that way but that's essentially what happens.
-
If killers wanted to they could be complete dicks to survivors mains and I'm not sure survivor mains even realise this. I could play hundreds of games right now bringing an ebony mori to every single one of them. The bloodweb is completely broken on this. Killer mains dont do it because most killer mains are not the jerks some think they are.
-
How is this bait? Do you play killer? Tell me how often you get ebony moris over ivory? Ebony moris are very common in blood webs because of what I just explained. The odds of killers getting an ebony are way higher than the odds of getting an ivory. And yet ebony moris are the "ultra rares."
There are a couple ways of fixing this.
1. Dont make green offerings and items repeatable in the same blood web. This will greatly increase then odds of getting more ivory and varieties of greens.
2. Add more ultra rares. Since only one ultra rare shows up per blood web, adding new ones will greatly decrease odds on getting a particular one.
But everytime a new map gets added to this game, odds of getting a particular green item keep going down. So getting ivorys or bps will become even rarer.
-
A couple disagreements.
Barbecue and chili is not a strong perk. It is used a lot because of the blood points. It's not a bad perk by any means. But let's say the double blood points was on thrilling tremors instead. People would use that and not bbq.
Second, blood warden is probably the best end game perk other than noed. Blood warden can turn a 0 k game into a 4 k game. It's very situational but not tier. F tier should be reserved for perks that are pretty much useless every game no matter what.
-
No it's not op. This is actually very hard to pull off against survivors doing gens. I've tried it about 5 or 6 times and only once did I get all four. Most of the time I reach tier three all gens are done and I only come away with 1 or 2 kills.
The purple tombstone piece is actually myers strongest add on. Simply because you can level it up quickly and the first survivor will almost never suspect you have it giving myers an easy quick kill. But after you use it once all survivor will know you have it and jump into lockers next time you reach tier 3. But having one survivor out of the game quickly already helps tremendously.

Survivor complaining about NOED...Just break totem and it's like if the killer only had 3 perk.
In the case of an ebony mori you really dont have time to go around cleansing totems. You pretty much have to gen rush or you wont make it to the end game.
-
Teammate who just follows me around. He can be my shield.
Would you rather play killer and get a 4k but no pip and less than 12k blood points or play killer where all 4 escape but you pip and earn 25k blood points.
-
I cant believe there are people who actually want to play with bots. For me that would take all the fun out of online gaming. I want to play real people, not bots.

Unless i'm missing something, it would make keys the first extremely selfish item on the game.
If it becomes like that, having a teammate with a key would only be a negative for Survivors. It basically means that the team will have one player less sooner than the normal duration of the game, making the game way harder for other Survivors since they will still need to keep doing their objective before having a shot to escape.
If you think about it, all the items as of now helps the whole team towards the common goal of escaping (the more escapes, the better). The new key would be the first item against that, making the odds worse for the remaining survivors.
Having a teammate with a key is already a negative for survivors in most cases. Just yesterday I had two games where survivors brought a key and a game offering. They bring the worst map for survivors just so they can find the hatch easier. Of course we all got killed before the hatch even spawned since if you're playing against a good killer you have little chance in the game.
-
Personally anyone who puts Freddy above Oni I think is a joke. Oni is a super strong killer who can snowball a game quicker than any other killer. He is up there with hillbilly arguably better. I've been seeing a lot more onis in red ranks than hillbillys and spirits. I dont even see many freddys.
-
Doctors shock does have a downside to it. While it gives the doctor a survivors location it also gives the survivors the doctor's location. It's pretty easy to know when a survivor is being chased without any aura reading perks.
This is why it is best to split up against the doctor. If I'm working on a gen and I see a survivor scream on the other side of the map I know I'm pretty safe to work on the gen especially since the doctor has no mobility.
Doctor is the least stealthiest killer of them all. You pretty much know where he is at all times. Use that to your advantage and work on gens furthest from where you see survivors screaming.
-
How is that stacking the deck? You just played against bad survivors with a decent killer. Stacking the deck would be bringing an ebony mori with all the strongest add ons and then tunneling the first hooked survivor to immediately get them out of the game.
You could have played the weakest killer and probably would have still demolished them without even trying that hard. It's because the matchmaking in this is so non existent. One game you'll get all rank 1s sweat squads, next game rank 15s.
-
Oni is one of the best killers in the game. Definitely better than hag. He's up there with billy and spirit. I wouldn't say hag is though.

This is by far the most unbelievable and pathetic post of 2020 ive read so far
Its bait mate. How would you rate? 8 out of 8?
-
All they have to do is make it not stack with the belts. One hatchet would be a fair downside to it.
Devs have a problem making good red addons for killers. A lot of red add ons for killer are the opposite and completely worthless (nurse, ghost face, deathslinger, ect... ) Then you have iridescent head which is god mode for huntress.
-
1. She's slow (has no mobility)
2. Good survivors know how to dodge her corrupt purge (duck behind cover right as she pukes)
3. You have to go out of your way to get your power and for a killer with no mobility that's a lot of time especially with how fast gens go
She's an okay killer but not great. If most killers are like me she's just overall frustrating to learn. She's probably the hardest killer to learn next to nurse. Simply because she requires a lot of strategy otherwise 3 gens will be done by the time you get your corrupt purge and down somebody with it.
-
Were you being camped or was the killer leatherface? Leatherface is the only killer I will not go for a hook save against unless I know for sure he's not camping
I mean if all three survivors were able to run to gen to gen while you were on the hook and not be disrupted by the killer then they might have good reason to believe you were being camped.
-
Yes they could have done a much better job with the addon rework. The addons they have now are a joke.
The red addon that allows you to play as a regular m1 killer for 60 seconds after a successful blink is so dumb. I mean they could have at least made it to where nurse moves at a faster speed like 5.0 or something.
-
Tunneling is never a good tactic to begin a game because you aren't putting pressure on the other three survivors and if they are any good the game will be over by the time you third hook the first survivor. Tunneling might get you 1 or 2k but that's it.
But let's say they are potatoes. You might get 4k by tunneling then but you'd probably get 4k by not tunneling as well and probably end the game even faster. Potatoes are easy regardless of the tactic.
The only time tunneling might work more in your favor is if the survivor you are tunneling is the only good player on the team. But there is really no way to know that and so you'd have to get lucky.
-
Legion has mobility and can injure multiple survivors quickly. Biggest issue with him is that his power is largely useless against injured survivors. You can still use it to get to a gen quicker or in some cases catch up to a survivor with sprint burst but you cant down anybody with it. I dont think he is as bad as people say he is though. Mobility is a pretty big plus for any killer.
-
You could always ask the police (dont demand, ask) about steps that could possibly be taken. I'm sure the police wouldn't mind you asking about it. but most likely they are just going to tell you at that stage there isn't much they can do. An anonymous threat to a single person isn't really high priority especially if they have no good reason to believe it is serious.
-
Most killers dont use them because even most killer mains know it is bs. But occasionally you'll get the sweaty toxic try hard that will use iri heads and an ebony mori just because.
-
I went from 0 to 4k in the end game without noed and using legion. Not a common occurence for sure, but the survivors kept going for the save and I kept grabbing and dropping them until all 4 were down. Thing is they played so well the entire game that I only got 2 hooks before the end game and then they screwed up.
That's one thing about killer, the game is never really over until it is over. Yes survivors can do their objective fast but killers can do it even faster if they play the cards right.
-
I'm sorry I just have to say this:. Mirror myers is NOT that strong. He moves extremely slow and has gator arms. It's almost like playing nurse without blinks but can see where survivors are at all times. Just run and dont be a blendette.
-
Most annoying:
Doctor (his shock power is extremely annoying in every way. The sounds, the skill checks, the stupid snap out of it mechanic that you have to do.
Oni ( they are all the same. They all have the same build. He is a killer that is purely built for slugging since you get punished if you dont. Yes lying on the ground majority of game waiting for a survivor to pick you up is really fun. How do people actually enjoy playing against him?)
Leatherface (a killer built for camping. Although if the person playing him doesn't camp then he is fine but a majority of them do which makes games really boring.)
-
Why do people think Freddy is unfun to play against? Unlike doctor there is nothing about him that i find super annoying. The only thing slighly annoying is a lot of people like to use the gen slow down build with freddy ( swing chains, thano, dying light, pop..) but base Freddy is fine. Doctor is all kinds of annoying mo matter what with the snap out of it mechanic and the crazy skill checks and the constant screaming (way more screaming then with freddy) all of it combined is just absolutely annoying. And I'm not saying he is annoying because he is strong, he's just annoying.
-
Keys in no way equal "Free escape", less so than moris equal "free 4k." Keys really dont bother me that much. If survivors play well then the key is not even needed. The only time keys really come in handy for survivors is when there are 2 survivors and 2 gens left or just one survivor left and killer finds hatch first. Keys give the only hope of survivors escaping in those scenerios. If there is one gen and three survivors left then the game is already tilted in favor of survivors.
And honestly why be bothered if one survivor escapes with a key? A lot of games I give the last survivor hatch anyway.
-
The bird should remain on deathslingers shoulder and on cool downs you can send the bird out to spot survivors. Give the deathslinger a second power.
-
I haven't used it yet but from its discription is sounds like a distraction perk similar to the pebble except more advanced. Definitely not a perk for newbies I wouldn't think. You have to really be smart about how you use it.
-
Hex builds right now are good on the new map because totem spawns are not well known yet and are hidden pretty good. But if you see a survivor come in with a map you probably want to scratch it and go with a non-hex build.
-
Another perk you might see in a 4 man swf is no mither but only if all 4 have it. If you jump into a game and you seen4 no mithers you know you are going to deal with a 4 man sabo squad that cant be slugged.
-
Bt and ds are not indicators of a 4 man swf, they are common perks used in almost every match.
Object of obsession and head on are probably the two most used perks in 4 man swf, especially OoO. While head on will tell you depending on how coordinated its use is. If you chasing a survivor and the survivor runs by some lockers and suddenly two survivors jump out and stun you and this happens multiple times during the match, you know for a fact its a 4 man swf on comms.
4 man swfs on comms should be obvious, no question. If it's not then it probably isn't a 4 man swf.
