  • Weren't they already planning a change to DS? Making it a stun, rather than dropping the survivor?

I never have issues with survivors using DS. It's an extra chance, that's all. Most survivors using it immediately run a straight line from where they're dropped so its easy to chase them down. But you have to deal with it once in a match and that's it.

Methinks, someone got a 0k and last survivor used DS to escape XD

  • I haven't noticed any issues since the changes. But maybe thats just the maps I've been on and the fact survivors have apparently worn the brightest colours possible since cosmetics became available.

  • Haven't played him yet, put about 200k BP into him to get a few things ready for some games tonight. A lot of stuff worrying me about his playability but I'll wait to play for myself, I tend to have a liking for the low end killers. Doc is one of my faves so who knows haha

  • Timer always seems a pain to read to me when I'm playing pig. I never know how long is left on someone's timer.

As for the jumpscare thing, my reasoning is as follows. I prefer tension over jumpscares in horror, also picture the scene if you will....

You're crouched, creeping towards a survive who's rummaging through a chest, you're just trying to close some distance to have an easier dash n slash......then that jumpscare goes off and the person legs it. That's IF the person freaks out. If they're like me and they've not been phased by a jump scare since the 1995, then it'll just be pointless. They'll carry on their searching, ignoring the jump scare.

  • I tend to look at things like camping, tunneling and other 'unfun' tactics as part of my toolbag but not necessarily the tools I bring out often. They're there when they're called for but usually there isn't a need for it. Maybe its just because I'm rank 15 killer at the moment, but I've never used them much. Basically never camp, and never facecamp

  • Buffs:
    1. Yeah ok, I'll give you the vision height one.
    2. Pointless, survivor's don't care as they know as soon as chase is broken to find the box, whether its close to snapping or not.
    3. Pointless and weird, why would the boxes suddenly materialise because they had a trap on their head? Also, wouldn't matter as survivor doesn't care about the boxes too much until the trap is on.

    Addons:
1 + 2: No, I don't really understand what the aim of these perks would be. Making the timer sound as if it's almost run out when it hasn't? But then if that's what the rare one did to confuse people, the one playing the theme song is just a waste of an add-on.
    3. This would be handy, I approve.
    4. 4. shakes head sternly and disapprovingly

  • A killer who's infested and controlled by some kind of parasite, could walk unnaturally, look twisted and deformed. Something like the Las Plagas from Resident Evil.

A killer based around sounds and silence, maybe creates small trap-like pockets of total silence or white noise where even the killer heartbeat can't be heard. Can also have better hearing, so sounds of survivors are louder to the killer (breathing, pain grunts, footsteps etc).

A killer who can teleport at will to spots they have marked. Similar to the Hag but rather than the traps creating an apparition you can freely teleport to markings. It would be great for mind games.

A killer who can throw a hook on a chain a certain distance. If it hits a survivor it pulls them to the ground and the killer starts slowly dragging them towards them. Killer stays stationary, but the survivor can mash a button or, following DbD style, hit some skill checks to unhook the chain and run, stunning the killer for a bit.

    Many ideas, too little time

  • Personally I prefer the Spirit. I've tried playing Nurse but I fail, miserably. But I find that when I play Spirit it just works. I have most of my games end up with 3 or 4 kills. Although like nurse, the gap between a good and bad game is usually bigger. For me its either 3/4k or none as Spirit for one reason or another. I usually have a broader spread as other killers.

Plus I like the challenge. Start haunting and then it becomes a game of figuring out 'where would I be if I was a survivor'. Same challenge the nurse has, but I find it easier to control the Spirit's power than I do the nurses blinks.

  • I don't really see him as weak. I play him a fair bit and do well, almost always 3 kills, 4kills if I try hard. He has weaknesses sure, but they can be managed if played right.

As long as you get good at controlling his chainsaw, manoeuvring tight turns and around/between trees and walls, then you're golden.

I'd lean more on bad survivors tilting me more, but not just new at the game or whatever. They have to be really really bordering on intentionally bad

sometimes I wonder if it is survivor toxicity towards other survivors (point farming, bming, body blocking), but I don't fully get that, it seems like hamstringing your team mates just forces your own inevitable demise, but that seems like at least 50% of the survivor player base.

Tends to happen to me after enough gens for hatch to spawn have been done. Then it seems some people just don't care and will throw their team mates under the bus because they know they can get out

  • I'd lean more on bad survivors tilting me more, but not just new at the game or whatever. They have to be really really bordering on intentionally bad

  • I had a game as survivor sometime last week that was weird. The guy playing Leatherface just seemed to not be attacking. 3 of us on a gen and he walks ups then just stares at people menacingly for the time it took to get the gen to about 70% then hits one person. At the end of the match, both exit doors open so I figured I'd try and scrape up a few extra bp. Started to take down a totem and he appeared, stared at me. I stopped for a moment, waited to see if i he was gonna do anything, he didn't so I went back to breaking the totem right infront of him and after a few seconds of staring he wandered off. These are just a couple of the weird things that happened that game.

  • Also, most of the survivor cosmetics seem to just be re-colours

  • They're not a problem really. It just means that I have to chase you or them down to get another hook. While I'm in a chase, it means I'm not patrolling gens etc. Plus if I go for the one who's been unhooked I get accused of tunneling. It doesn't help killer because even if you get a hit on the YOLO survivor, there are still 4 survivors up and running. Having a survivor hooked benefits the killer more as it helps to slow down the pace of the game a bit.

  • I'd like the ability to pick a colour myself. I suffer with red colourblindness so I can struggle to pick out the gen auras against brownish backgrounds. It's fine on maps with an overall blue or grey colour tone. But maps such as Autowreckers or Rotten Fields I find it hard to see the auras.

There are two ways to balance something. You can either nerf it to bring it down to the same level as the rest, or buff everything else to bring everything to the same level and then make other changes based on that information. Due to the nature of SWF, the latter might work better than the former, but it'd require Killers to become so powerless (temporarily) that it might just kill the game altogether.

I doubt they'd buff solo survivors without buffing killers. You'd have to be willingly blind not to see that they've been pandering to killers for the last six months. To suddenly drop that on its head? Yeah, I don't think so.

If by "pandering to Killers" you mean "addressing the imbalance issues plaguing Killers", then yes, I know they've been "pandering" to Killers. That doesn't change the fact that to balance SWF by buffing solo Survivors, you'd need to buff Survivors to the same level as SWF, collect data over a relatively long period of time, and only then resume addressing the imbalance issues plaguing Killers.

Doesn't buffing solo survivor's provide a buff to SWF also? Any buffs to perks, offerings or gear/add-ons is going to benefit a SWF group as well.

I think they just continue working to buff killers and re-work the weaker ones. Seems to be going well so far.

  • He's a killer who really needs his personal perks for end game imo. Being able to make the exit gate take longer to open and blocking off the exits is meant to be how he stops people running back to save a teammate and for them to escape before Freddy can transition them and down them again.
  • I'll stick with my consoles thanks. For comfort, the fact I can keep my girlfriend's kids occupied with a second controller in the front room, the fact everything for the console will work from release of the console, for not having to keep sinking money in to upgrade it and handle the issues, the list goes on.

  • Beyond it being useful as people wouldn't expect it, I'd find it difficult to argue it's use over other perks that are available. Maybe in some fun themed builds based around tracking the survivors at every opportunity.

Edit: Or at least make the values 50/75/100% rather than 50/50/75%

  • Make the auras of disturbed crows visible briefly as they fly away. If you were hunting someone, you'd notice birds suddenly scattering. Seeing the auras of the crows means you know where a survivor has been, but won't see the direction they're going so helps stop it being too good at homing in on someone.

I feel like Spies from the Shadows is an unnecessary perk as there's just no reason to pick it imo. I don't think I've ever run it as killer. It would feel like a wasted perk slot to me.

  • I've had the misfortune of every match where I play survivor and use a streamer, the killer DCs seconds into the match and it feels wasted. Usually do quite nicely with streamer when I play killer though with BBQ

  • I think the one I'm missing is Jake's.

  • It's just there to stop campers having such an easy time downing the same survivor whenever they're unhooked. I prefer the way it works currently, giving the effect only to the unhooked survivor with a shorter bleed out than originally.

As a killer main I whole heartedly encourage the use of No Mither :chuffed:

Through my time on the forum, I've come to notice that many people propagate the primary difference between a Killer and a Survivor main as Surv mains being salty and Killers aren't.

After sufficient research, both anecdotal and statistical, I'd like to propose a counter-theory:

The primary difference between Surv mains and Killer mains is that Surv mains have the potential to be funny.

(Yes, I made an entire analysis for a ######### roast. I play Dead By Daylight; you think I have a life?)

Funny is a very subjective thing. In my experience, neither survivor's or killers are any funnier than than the other.

But on a serious note re the topic, I think No Mither can be a good perk if used right. It has some good synergy with perks such as Resilience and This Is Not Happening. It's also nice to have an extra challenge. I wouldn't recommend it for people who struggle to stealth or escape chases for obvious reasons.

  • I like this idea. There could even be a Prestige 4 reward one if they ever put P4 in the game. I'd love to have the gold chainsaw from Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3 for Leatherface with 'The Saw Is Family' along the blade :) and Doc could have grasping ghost hands or ice effect instead of the electricity.

I'm so sad they've stopped developing DLC now for F13 because of the court case between the director and writer of the original film :(

(not related to the topic at hand but the mention of F13 made me think of this)

  • I quite like Auto wreckers. Cannot stand Rotten Field. The corn, so much corn.

I just want a Phantasm chapter. The Tall Man and Reggie Bannister.

    I'm so up for this.

  • I agree the auto-deactivate during chases would work and the boost should be much lower, like the 30% you suggested. That balances it out a lot more. I edited my last post with guff about different killers being affected differently by the way it is in the OP.

Yes increasing unhook speed would encourage YOLO saves, but then that's a separate issue that needs to be dealt with. Often when playing killer if someone get's sandbagged, i'll purposely leave them alone.

  • I mean, at the end of the day the type of player who's happy to stand there facecamping a survivor for ages, theyre not going to be detered by something like BBQ and chilli. But you can't make a perk that punishes all the killer players who don't camp.

Going along with the OP, the moment a killer hooked someone with the perk at level 3 you'd have a burst of 150% extra to repair etc until the killer could move out of the 20 metre radius. If the average killer moves at about 4.6m/s then thats at least 4 seconds of 150% extra repair speed. And thats if the killer leaves in a straight line directly away from the hook. I'm assuming they mean a full 150% extra speed on top of the normal action speed. So all actions at 250% speed for 4-5 seconds.

It would also affect different killers different amounts. Where as it wouldn't affect Hillbilly and Nurse players as much as they can travel away and back much faster. Michael Myers or Huntress who move a bit slower are penalised more

Something straight forward like increased unhook speed if the killer is within a certain range would allow survivor's to counter camping better without the killers who don't camp being punished.

Then there's Trapper and Hag to think of as they're punished for taking any time to set up traps near a hooked survivor which severely weakens their ability to play reactively. They'd be forced into pre-trapping hooks and specifically using those hooks when they grab a survivor.

Meanwhile Doc with a range add-on can sit there spamming the shock and interrupting unhooks from outside the range. Huntress could do the same with Iridescent Heads.

While I can appreciate the need for a way to stop camping hooks as its unfun and unfair, I think it needs to be in a way that doesn't screw over the killers who don't.

  • I find it ironic how, in a topic about I find more toxic behaviour in DbD than other games, an argument has broken out, apparently over whether or not toxic play is ok.

And Der_Schatten, yes, I'm not the greatest survivor player, but I'm quite happy with what I do. I also don't have the best luck with getting Escape Cakes in the bloodweb.

  • @Der_Schatten said:

I normally do just fine with blood points. A good 25-35k each game. I don't just sit in a bush and do nothing until the exit gate's open. I repair gens, I heal teammates, I dodge the killer if chased, so on and so forth. I just play stealthy and don't do stupid stuff like YOLO saves or leading killers to my teammates or whatever. To me the BP for the save isn't worth a teammate being hooked again.

    25-35k... 32k is max XD u r Cheating...

    Are we forgetting offerings?

Edit: And whatever makes up the post-game bonus

"Then your wife needs to learn how to play better and not get caught. It's that simple." your words dude... Dont get caught? Its DBD, you soppused to get caught...

Like Kuris said, you're supposed to not get caught. That's your goal as a Survivor, to survive.

BUT THEN YOU Killers cry about "Toxic" Survivors... Like is sad:

Survivor are "Toxic" cuz they dont want to be Camped...
they loop, flashlight CUZ YOU BOTH Just sad: NOT GETTING CAUGHT (HOOKED) is what survivors just need to do. You just sad what i say... Playing toxic to avoid Campers...

There's a major difference between playing well and playing toxic. I've managed to survive plenty of matches as survivor without using flashlights, bodyblocks, looping etc. I just act stealthy and don't make stupid decisions.

Also, this topic was more about abusive chat and messages being aimed at people rather than toxic play. But it falls under the same thing I guess.

You also can't justify toxic survivor play by saying its to prevent toxic killer play. If thats your mentality, then even if a killer doesn't camp or tunnel or anything like that, the survivor still will be toxic because of the possibility. That's like saying I should cut up traffic on the road because there's the chance they might cut me off.

  • As a killer main I whole heartedly encourage the use of No Mither :chuffed:

  • Why not just make a perk where if the killer is within facecamping range of a hook (call it 5-10 metres) then that survivor can be unhooked 150% faster? Or something like the pig's traps where if a killer is within 10 metres of a hook, the entity stops summoning? Something simple and straight forward.

Never mind all this 150% to all actions rubbish. Why are suggestions always so out there and unbalanced when it comes to things like stopping camping or whatever.

  • I've always felt that if a hex perk involves tokens, that each token corresponds to a totem. As you accrue totems, more light up. Then as they're cleansed you lose the corresponding token, not the whole perk. It would incentivise something extra for survivor's to do without penalising the killer instantly if their one totem spawns in a bad spot.

  • Don't think the game needs more active toxic play. I don't see why you'd want to be toxic unless someone has been a troll all game or something.

  • ...are you asking for ways to be toxic that are more fun?

  • I'd rather your holiday signify a day where people get together to not be toxic. Why not let every first hook escape the match as a sign of independance 8-)

  • Simple answer to the topic title - No, you don't HAVE to play Nurse.

Play the killers you enjoy most or play best, regardless of whether they're high tier or not. Nurse is top dog but the skill curve is ridiculous. There's no other killer with a more obvious difference between a good nurse and a bad nurse. I suck at nurse so I don't play her except for when theres a daily ritual. I usually play Doctor, Leatherface (non-camping shock horror), Hillbilly and lately Huntress (but I can't hit hatchets for #########).

It's probably better not to aim for just the high ranks. Ideally find the sort of rank thats comfortable for you where you don't pubstomp people but also don't get pubstomped by survivors all the time.

  • Doc pips it for me. I also like the noise he makes when pallet slammed

  • Nickenzie said:
@StalwartXX I often get called a camper and receive hate mail because I always comeback to the hook when I seen that the hooked survivor has been unhooked. I wish they made this a killer perk already because it's what the community needs. ;)

This happens to me a lot. I'm leaving the hook or basement hook, not far away and then they're unhooked. Naturally you're going to turn around to go back. Why survivors think you won't is beyond me
  • That's more than likely what it boils down to. It's just something that's always stood out about DbD especially. Earlier today I was called a tryhard for having a fun game against 3 survivors, they had 4 gens done by the time I killed the three of them. I thought it was a good game until one of them piped up at me about tryharding, struggling, being bad etc. Previously I've been accused of camping when I haven't, tunneling when I haven't, being a tryhard when I've used 4 level 3 perks, a P2W warrior when I play dlc characters, and then every name under the sun.

It's a game, I enjoy it when I'm killer or survivor, and whether I get 4 kills, no kills, no escape or gens or whatever. I don't understand the mindset behind giving abuse when you lose
  • In respect of vaulting windows, you need to bear in mind you're still within range if you're just the other side of the window.

When I play killer, there are plenty of times I swing or lunge within range of a hit, and yet somehow I miss. And don't even get me started on the fresh hell that is a lagging survivor. Running normally except for the 5 foot jumps forward every few seconds. I won't lie, if I play survivor and get lag, it's a benefit as I seem to be able to zoom away.
  • Sabotage doesn't really bother me. It can be a pain if it's the one hook within a reasonable distance but it's there as a tactic for survivors to save teammates. Only time it winds me up is if two or three hooks in a row are dropped as Im approaching them but oh well
  • Just have to roll with the salt. A lot of survivor mains are the type of player that get off on toying with other players (teabagging, bodyblocking, so on and so forth), but this type of survivor can't handle it when their bullshit gets put to an end in a match or when they get a taste of their own medicine.

Use the salt, let it flow through you XD

  • I really feel like the camping, tunneling and slugging is more of an issue on PC as on console I rarely come across it when playing survivor. Never been in a match where we've been slugged. Had a bit of tunneling and camping but the exception rather than the rule.

I suppose a toxic killer who is someone who BMs whether they win or lose. Or if a killer bullies someone. Not necessarily tunneling or camping but intentionally spoiling the game for an individual (no, not by using annoying perks, addons, killers or winning etc). For example, holding a survivor hostage in the basement for the whole game.

  • Dwight as he's the only survivor I have who's lvl 50. But not for any real reason except I had a few daily rituals for him.
