I don't believe OP wanted the game to be competitive. It is quite obvious by his discourse that he just wanted to get to Rank 1 and then he'd probably leave anyway as he would have thought he "finished" the game or something weird.
If OP would truly be competitive he would ask for top tier leaderboards or something similar instead of whining about the old rank system being gone.
So I do agree with others: OP really doesn't know what competitive is in relation to DBD.
-
Similar as before. I was getting bored before the SBMM getting red ranked while I am a filthy casual, but the SBMM has made me stick around.
-
Overall better games for both sides for me.
There are occasional spike games that feel out of place, but they are much rarer than before.
-
I haven't experienced any campers or tunnelers so far.
I also play rather relaxed.

What kind of representation are you vouching for if it groups up regular, everyday people with horrific monsters driven by sadomasochism?
Welcome to being a queer person. All the Disney villains are queer coded and villains throughout the 20th century have been queer coded. There is a reason why queer people often love the villains: society bundled us with them and we embraced them as we had nothing else. There are also ton of youtube videos about it so if you want to go down a rabbit hole of some wonderful videos I highly recommend it.
Regarding Hellraiser a lot of people seem to forget that it was written(the novel: Hellbound Heart) and the subsequently directed by a queer author who goes by the name Clive Barker. So there is definitely an argument that the first two films have queer characters and metaphors. Hell, I recommend Nightbreed by Barker if you want to dwell into his rabbit hole of some excellent novels.
I was personally happy to see the Chatterer as a skin. Just wish they'd also make the Female Cenobite available.

Its obvious you didnt read ######### i wrote then. This isnt complaining about "waaah its too hard". Youre generalizing the people who are against this way too much. "I" alone am not part of "the problem". Neither are the people who agree with me. The problem is that no matter what you do as an experienced player you are going to go against significantly less skilled players and lose just because theyre bringing the most unfair add-ons and perk combos to guarantee their win. Now, there's nothing wrong with this in general. Some people want to win the game more than others. That's fine. But there's a point to where what you bring is playing on ez mode. And anyone can bring it whenever they want. And the concern is that eventually people are going to just hit a plateau of people just playing ez mode against each other. And it isn't "oh just dont play that way and you wont get there" because you have to go out of your way to lose an uncertain amount of matches to get out of that mmr. You have to essentially shoot yourself in the foot to dodge another bullet. You are literally being punished just for playing the game and being good at it.
This sounds ridiculously hypothetical.

What if you absolutely accidentally win by playing chill? Won't you get a sweaty match again that you will obviously lose?
SBMM's are generally built on a grading scale and not a binary one as you fear.
-
Dead Hard is one of those perks that really don't annoy me as a killer.
-
No
-
SBMM was the dream. As a survivor I had fun, and as a killer - even if I averaged just 2 kills per game - it was all good because I had fun.

Dont worry, youll just have the sweaty Players that wanna rank up on an MMR with no win/lose/score input (for us) instead :)
If it is anything like the test we had a few weeks back then sign me up.
-
Can't wait for the MMR to get active. I am not a red player and I have no interest in playing against sweaty red ranks where the best move is not to play. I do not enjoy AFK-ing games.
-
SBMM was more chill for me. Sure, it means I 2k most of the time max, but as long as everyone was having fun it was all good.
-
I fear SBMM will never be implemented as it appears the top 5% of players don't like this and they appear to hold the game hostage for everyone else.
Something something mirror of real world.
I just want SBMM back. Only version where I can bother playing Killer again.
-
Best games I've had in months was while SBMM was active. Both as killer and as survivor.
-
I loved SBMM. Games were fun and exciting.
It seems to me that the most miserable in SBMM were the top rank players. The price of spending too much time in the game is that you will just have sweaty games. It's not fun - or fair - for players with worse ranks to get matched against a high rank killers/SWF that then continue to obliterate the match because of skill discrepancy.
-
I loved the SBMMR Test. I actually had engaging and fun games compared to the old system where you get matched against a hero red rank loopers where you can just as well just AFK.
-
I am currently at my final straw. Stupid matchmaking means matchmaking doesn't work which usually means I am better off suiciding or AFK-ing during a match than bother with a game.
-
@Orion said:
That's interesting, but it sounds abusable, especially when used in combination with Slippery Meat.
Other suggestion would be just allow the remaining players to auto-forfeit the game.
DCs are so common - penalty or not - that I'd rather just end the game or see some balancing act to keep people in it to the end.

When i play killer, the survivors are toxic.
When i play survivor, the killer is toxic.
The game is toxic, not a specific role.
And to fully answer your question why they are toxic: Because they are most likely children. At least i hope they are... 🙄 Otherwise... jees
The biggest difference in my experience is that toxic survivors will keep the game hostage whereas a toxic killer will usually just kill you and you can find another game. That is in effect a lopsided power over the game.
In fact, the only way to combat toxic survivors who take the game hostage is to just AFK which just sucks. There should be a very specific time(10-15 minutes) limit on these matches just to keep the game going moving.
-
I suggest that if you are in a frustrating game just park your killer in a corner and take a step from the game. Your mental health and well being is more important than the ego or the game of the survivors.
-
As someone who encounters a lot of people who DC I find penalizing DC kind of pointless considering the fact that you can easily suicide in this game. It is a form of "security theatre".
-
I think there could be a chill mode that just does not use perks or items. I'd actually want to play a mode where there are no perks or items(except maybe items picked in the arena).

So survivors should get punished for doing their objective fast? That's the killer fault for not applying ""PRESSURE""
I mean, killers get called out for doing their objective fast(tunneling). That's the survivor's fault for not knowing how to ""LOOP"".
Regarding NOED it sucks to encounter as a survivor. I am actually a bit enamored with one suggestion in this thread that the NOED charges equals the totems left in the game. That way you can actually reduce the amount of snowballing NOED can produce.

So playing killer 3 gens done couldn't down anyone was getting looped like crazy just dced and saw they were a swf all rank one while I am rank 11 got named called just ignored...if matchmaking is broken y should I stock around played another matche after all same rank much better
If you encounter a bully squad the best thing you can do is not play the game and just AFK:

You won't answer it but I know you don't, none of you here do, I don't even really like him or relate to him, and yet those are comparisons I've heard people repeatedly use on me as soon I speak up, I've already touched on how trans girls are dominating women's sports, but whatever, it's a free country, believe what you want...
Ah yes, the infamous "trans girls dominating women sports" argument. For your information this argument is always based on 100% disinformation and fearmongering so you should maybe start being more critical at your sources because if you don't then other people will start making decisions for you.
I mean trans athletes have been competing since 2003(when the International Olympic Committee drew up guidelines) and so far the superiority of the trans women you speak of has not really come through.
At least you are honest about being queerphobic in your writing.
-
Iri heads are not toxic - as they are a legit part of the game as it stands - but they are not fun for any survivor.
What is toxic is giving people grief post-game because of the ingame tools you used.

Cuts off screaming. If its more than one time its pretty obvious its bming.
Yep, cuts off screaming which is annoying on many survivors.
-
I would accept this change if survivors are required to do 10 more generators in each map to a total of 15. Then it would be fair.
Also, to paraphrase OP. If survivors can't do 15 generators then it is a survivor problem.
-
As a Survivor main who dabbles in killers I can confirm that Survivors are incredibly toxic. I do, however, find the PC survivors much worse than the Console ones. The console players will wreck your face in game, but they usually play within the expected parameters and due to console can't really type much post-game.
However, since I am playing on a PC I have no experience with them sending me messages on the PS4/Console network so I might be overstepping my boundaries by claiming they are less toxic.
-
The idea is that most survivor just want to play against an NPC or have a single human they can bully.
-
Kate Denson
-
The core point is that most survivors want an NPC to beat and if not they want a human to bully as they please. It's a bit sociopathic in a way and I get disturbed by my fellow survivors all too often in their behaviour and desire to bully. Does the game sometimes go sideways? Yes, I just got killed fast as a survivor earlier. Now, it ain't fun, but sometimes the dice just rolls that way and I lose out. That is in no way an excuse to bully killers.
I think the best solution to avoid this sort of toxicity is to turn the game into a 4v4 where both players have the capacity to kill each other. I mean, we usually just call those games PvP games and shooters, but asymmetrical games will always engender more toxicity due to the asymmetrical nature of it.
Actually, now that I think of it, it might be better to introduce two killers to a match against 5 survivors to see if it changes behaviour somewhat. Because ultimately the 4v1 format is a failed format when it comes to toxicity.
-
Would be more appropriate that you could ban perks(both killer and Survivors choose 2-3 from each other).
-
Have been through this map several times now. It is prettier, but it is so SWF sided now that I just AFK the match instead of bothering to play it anymore.

Camping and Tunneling aren't always used as a strategy. Sorry to break it to you.
Much like crouching isn't always used as a strategy for survivors.
Maybe devs should do something about survivors who can't hold their crouch button.
-
maybe we should all go play killers and quit trying to survive ;)
An actual good idea. Would help shorten the Survivor queue for me.

Or, the game is growing but more people are choosing survivor over killer than the 4:1 ratio. Ie both are increasing but noobs are choosing Surv too much.
...and there is nothing in the game alluring them to playing Killer so there is nothing rectifying the situation.
-
The change we need is to just use bots instead of humans to play the killers. It would make 99% of the survivor player base happy and the old killer could just play as survivor. My guess is that's the eventual endgame for BHVR.

@diverse394 said:
I think the toxicity from survivors has finally caught up to them. Less killers perhaps because of it, there isn't enough soulless people who want to suffer as killer 🤷
Pretty much. It is actually more enjoyable to AFK purple and red rank games until you get to such a bad rank where you can actually play with a killer and have at least some fun.
Basically for every fun game I have I have to have 2-3 AFK games to get my pip to stay at a level where I can actually enjoy playing a killer. That is sure some excellent game design. /s

The Killer is teleported to the other side of the map by the entity immediately after hooking a Survivor. Same concept as Pyramid Head's cages except the Killer teleports instead of the Survivor. Discourages three gens as well because the Killer can't keep in the same area all game.
Honestly, if this change happened it would naturally weaken Borrowed Time and Decisive Strike to the point where they would be largely unnecessary. The Killer would be more focused on map pressure and getting hooks than camping out kills because walking straight back to hook would be a massive waste of time.
Ah yes, the solution that would decimate the killer population even further increasing queue times for survivors to near infinity. Great job!

Sure, you may lose, or lose badly if you are just wanting kills and 4ks. Just look at it as a learning experience, don't worry about kills if you are new and learning how to play and leveling up the killers perks. This game has a steep learning curve at first, but you will get the hang of it quicker than you might expect.
Some people just want to play a game, not become the world championship of all gaming. It's not about 4k or whatever, but that a sweaty swf will just make the entire experience miserable as they suck all the fun out of it. It's better to AFK or DC those games and enjoy the potential depip of those SWF than try to play the game.
Or just do the smarter thing: Lobby Dodge.
-
I've lobby dodged a few games today that had key and toolboxes. Feels good.

Man, the forum really is just full of killer mains circle jerking eachother now.
At this point is more fun to circlejerk on the forum than play a killer online. These days I only play survivor with friends or I play killer to finish my Daily Rituals(and AFK as soon as I finish it, much to the ire of the survivors).
-
Depends on how long my friends are enjoying this game. As soon as they stop playing I'll stop playing.
-
If anything I think I don't lobby dodge enough when I play killers.

I just had a match where I could have slugged for the 4k; even after the survivors were being toxic.
I didn't.
My reward for being nice was to be insulted in the post game lobby. So I mean, that's what I get for not slugging- so my question to you is why on earth would I not do something beneficial for me if you are going to call me names either way? The ONLY reason to not slug, and to handicap yourself, is to make the survivors happy- there is no other reason....so....why would I do that if you're so miserable you are going to call me names and such anyways?
I wouldn't be surprised if this is a common killer experience.

Nah. If anyone DCs they’re just too sensitive to play multiplayer games. They should move on to something single player if they can’t “deal with” other players.
Not really. Survivors being abusive and toxic is a very special DBD thing that is rarely seen in other games. Even the toxic behaviour of players in LoL pales in comparison to what I've seen from Survivors in this game.
However, the great equalizer of all of this is that the killer playerbase will go down and the survivors will have dug their own graves as they'll have to wait endlessly for a game. The amount of waiting for a game in DBD, especially in the evenings, has done wonders for me in finishing other games while I wait.
