Why do people hate killers "teaming" in 2v8 so much?

I've been encountering a lot of salt in 2v8 recently when it comes to both killers ganging up on the same survivor in chase.

Just today I had some extremely salty and explicit hatemail after a 2v8 where I'd been rather nicely synced up with my rando killer teammate and helped them end a lot of chases very quickly (stealth nemesis on lery's is pretty lethal) In the past I've had nasty messages for similar reasons and even been cussed out by a streamer on stream and threatened with being reported for it since it's apparently "against the rules" which is of course absolutely nonsense.

I find it weird that people get so mad at this since the shadow class seems tailor made as a support class to jump in on chases.

I'd be interested to hear the forum's opinions on this.

  • I mean, what is fun about it from the survivor side? The main fun that this game provides is the interaction of chase, and feeling as though what you do in chase matters. 2 killers chasing you takes ALL player agency away from the survivor and essentially turns them into a sitting duck. I'm not going to make the claim that 2v8 is unbalanced or anything, because the game mode is seemingly balanced around the possibility of both killers ganging up on one survivor, but it most definitely isn't fun.

The fun bit for survivors is pallet stunning 2 killers at the same time. I pulled one of those the other day against a chucky and wraith team.

Was riding high on that one for a while.

I'd say the novelty kind of dies off after the first time you do this

I get people disliking it, but to be getting consistent and such acidic hatemail for it is unecessary.

  • Two killers teaming leaves 7 survivors to make progress on gens. But I forgot this was 1v1v8

My point. This one smacks of entitlement.

"YOU have to play the game against me in the way I want you to."

  • oh no you cant juice a killer without their teammate coming to help, ok lemme tell you this you help your teammates so killers cant help each other i 2v8 jus wondering because if you say killers cant you are a hypocrite no better way to say it man

  • I understand the fun claims but a match of 2v8 is usually around 10 minutes so even an unfun match doesn't take that long to end. Usually if the killers are hard teaming every down they lose, so long as the survivors stick to gens hard enough. I play with a duo and we rarely team a down intentionally just serendipitous moments where we happen to patrol to the same area or one forces the survivor into the other. We are calling out where things are happening to each other and run over if there are a lot of survivors present but actual double teaming is rare. Its just kind of part of the mode to me even if it can be a bit frustrating in the moment.

  • people on average already have poor chase times in 1v4 with 0 perks. concepts like "I'm helping the team win" are never a consideration only "this is inconvenient for me". 2 killers on 1 survivor is 7 survivors uncontested.

I love double teamers because it usually means they are not that good.

Tbh the situations I've been getting salt from are usually when my killer team mate is weak and I've popped over to stop them being bullied.

That was the streamer incident. Streamer and their swf were absolutely bullying and running rings around the spirit i was paired with, who was obviously a very green killer. Multiple saves, blinding, pickups and all sorts. I noticed this so I procd my undetectable on shadow, snuck over over to help, jumped them and we took them apart in seconds.

Guess I spoiled their fun bullying a weaker player.

to me that's the highest compliment a killer can give me...having a friend come say hi! I just can't be mad at that but that's just me. Only thing I could be mad at is if no gens got done

  • I can understand it myself as my duo is usually just trapper and barely plays killer so whenever she struggles i swoop in and give her a hand. If im looping a killer well and i see the other start to come over and actually manage to loop both for as long as possible it ends up feeling more like a compliment lol

The problem i have in 2v8 as survivor is duo tunneling. Like they hook you on 1 end of the map, you teleport to the other side, and someone pulls you out and theres the other killer going straight for you instead of the unhooker and bang ur back on the other side and then it repeats again and ur out in minutes.

Or they both struggle to catch people so they pick one and use discord to search for the 1 person they can catch which doesnt take much with all the aura spamming in 2v8 lol

Yh it is kind of a compliment isn't it? Best oart in 2v8 is if you lead them away from gates, when they hook you, your cage spawns on the opposite side of the map, near the gate that was getting opened while you distracted them, easy escape

  • It's because it feels cheap.

If it happens once in a 2v8 match it's whatever. Twice, ooooookay, it's frustrating but I can get over it. But when both killers make a point to double-team tunnel my butt out of the match and it happens 2 matches in a row… I had to bite my tongue to not leave something acidic in the chat box. That happened to me yesterday.

I logged off and played DRG. Rock & stone!

  • Sorry to hear you’ve gotten some rude messages. That kind of behavior is never okay. To answer your question, I suppose maybe it’s because it can feel like you were powerless in that moment? That no amount of your own skill makes a difference. I’ve gotten body blocked by 2 killers plenty of times and 1 will hit and the other hits and there’s just nothing you can do. I call it the sandwich of punishment lol. It’s frustrating but In the macro gameplay, assuming the killers aren’t getting downs super fast this way, it’s usually not the best play because it leaves other survivors to do gens.

If 2 killers are on me I consider it a big bonus because I’m keeping them occupied if only for a moment, even though I am rendered a bit powerless. One of those situations where you win and you lose at the same time lol.

Many players in this game just can’t handle losing like adults. I get double-teamed all the time in 2v8 and I just chuckle when it happens. I think it’s fun to see how long I can last with both killers chasing me. Of course, because teammates in 2v8 are so often completely useless, usually not much gen progress gets done when I’m getting double-teamed, but that is a separate issue 😂

Ah so we got Survivor Rulebook for 2V8 now

Man I need to try that game. It does look good. And props for dealing with the frustration like an adult, dbd can be like that, more ppl need to be able to step away like that instead of getting tilted and taking it out on other ppl.

  • That will never not be funny.

Survivor willingly, consciously, with full intent queues into 2 v 8. The mode that is called TWO versus eight. The mode that has TWO killers in it.

Then gets mad that they're chased by … two killers.

(Who, in doing so, are being rather inefficient …)

    Some people can't be helped.

  • 'Killer's argument' from 2019…

  • I think most people here have said it already, but survivors hate killers doubling up on them because it simply is an impossible scenario to win, no matter how well they were playing before, as soon as the second killer shows up it's "well I guess I'm dead now." It isn't interactive or fun at all for the survivors, if anything it's just frustrating, even if it's fun for the killers.

However, that is not a problem with the killers. If you are put on a team with another person, of course you are going to try to work with them, it would be ridiculous to expect them not to. It would be like expecting survivors to never unhook each other, take hits for each other, or heal each other. It's unfun because the game mode was made with what killers would find fun, but on the survivor side it just isn't. It being an unfun gamemode is no reason to ever send people hateful comments or death threats.

  • If anything, doubling up is rather inefficient, two killers chasing 1 survivor means virtually no pressure on any other point of the map.

Personally I found it pretty fun to be chased by a Billy + Nemesis, granted, you go down sooner or later, but its fun trying to outplay 2 killers at the same time especially if you actually get decent tile rng.

  • Others have said why, but I think people need to remember that saying that getting 2v1'd is the least fun interaction 2v8 offers is not the same with agreeing with the behaviour of the survivor in your story nor is it claiming 2v8 needs to be changed to prevent this from happening. At the end of the day, it does cost killers a lot of pressure to go for this deliberately, so it's not overpowered.

  • I personally like to go after a different survivor at first but if I can see my teammate is being outplayed a bit too long, I'll get involved as I hope they do the same for me too

  • I usually do drive by in 2v8 if I happen to be close going the other way to help the other killer. Like I rarely even do it intentionally just happens that we end up the same place so why not do faster down. Quite often two killers just running together ends up them losing the gens as they are only pressuring one area at a time.

In some cases its good like Deathslinger should always have a teammate that gets how to do the double hit down on full health survivor.

  • The issue with 2v8 for players like me is, that your actions in chase either matter a ton or not at all.

The killer players in 2v8 are (generally speaking) worse than the killers i face in 1v4, so it's easier for me to loop them.

If the killers team up tho, chase becomes nearly impossible for the targeted survivor. Sure, you waste the time of both killers for a few seconds, it's not a balance issue. But it's simply not fun for the chased survivor at all.

There is no real solution to this except for me ti change my own mindset. I'm now playing 2v8 extremely casually, listening to a podcast and doing my remaining archives slowly. When in chase with two killers i focus and try to outplay them both for that rare glory.

It's a core design issue of 2v8 that cannot be resolved to tend to 1v4 players. Either 1v4 players like me change their mindset or they pause the game for three weeks.

  • I hate going up again Nemi over and over and over and over and over and over and over again. Do you think there might be a reason for this? Do you think ...I dunno, maybe we should change this Iike you do all basic survivor perks

  • Some players really don't get the implications of having 2 killers in the match. Its the same as when people complain abou being chased the whole time.

Usually i just laugh when both killer team up due to how silly it feels. If i can last at least 30s in that chase i feel victorious; i know I've bought some time to my team heal and do gens

  • Imagine why you could hate a situation that is impossible to solve? Sigh.

Because survivors didn't get a third health state would be my guess.

What sounds weird basically is caused by the fact that two killers can kill off any looping and chasing rather easy for a rather free down. Which just feels bad from the survivor side. Or frustrating in the worse/worst case.

It is the typical case of "no matter what you do, you will die" which - in my opinion - should not be in a game like this at any given point in time. No matter your skill or experience, you are on the losing side in those situations and that feels worse than if someone just outsmarted you in 1v4.

But to prevent that, I only see one option (see above): survivors go from healthy to injured, then to Deep Wound and only after that they go down. But that would need much balancing on the other side as well (gen speed, survivor classes and so on).

But to me it would be decently fair because two tapping wouldn't instantly kill but just put you into Deep Wound (which would feel better on the survivor side - this would make it possible to use the haste to get into another loop at least), yet still two killers should be able to delete the third/last health state for a down without it feeling too difficult for them.

  • I've encountered this a lot, it's why I stopped 2v8 duo queueing with my friend as a killer: partially because it made her quit the game entirely. I have no kind or charitable translations of the opinion, myself, as it just comes across as sheer entitlement and due to that event I doubt I'll ever see it as anything but.

In a game where people regularly defend playing in pre-mades saying it's not that big of a deal and not that unbalancing, the moment the killers do so in an event there are pterodactyl noises about how unbalanced discord communication is. It's bizarre to me the cognitive dissonance left on open display on this particular complaint for as common as it is.

It is an asym PvP game, it is dissonant by nature. And this will never change. It's literally the game.

I get it that SWF is frustrating for killers, but you are able to win against those too and solo q has a high chance of not being exactly fun neither. But if two killers are tunneling/focussing you in 2v8 there is nothing one can do. It is another case of helplessness which probably feels worse for a lot of people.

The fact that it is basically impossible to play this mode as killer alone because of the ridiculous queue times doesn't help with the overall experience.

Oooh. Excellent point there. It indeed doesnt make sense for survivors to enjoy survive with friends in a VC then get mad when killers coordinate to be efficient in 2v8

  • My frustration only comes from the fact that killer #2 automatically sees the aura of the survivor killer #1 is chasing. It feels anti-climatic and almost unfair when you have been locked in a great chase with one killer and then the other just cuts you off at the pass for a quick hit around a blind corner because they could see your aura. You have this great back and forth going with someone, a game of cat and mouse that requires skill from both parties and then the other killer just gets to cut you off because they see your aura. There's no counter play to that, it feels cheap for the survivor to go down like that. Otherwise killers both working togeather in chase is totally fine, just don't get all of this constant free aura reading. I want to use the metaphor that the games gone from people painting their own picture through gameplay into people just completing a connect the dots drawing. You no longer have to seek out and then chase, you just run to the next lit up aura, rinse and repeat. Its boring and lame.
