We need Dev Play streams
I think the Dev's need to play their own creations during PTB's or before major releases to show their work and back up their claims. Playing actual live matches against actual people just to prove they actually play their game.
Comments
I'd rather they do their work while at work, and relax in their spare time. I can just imagine the comments on these streams would be telling them to hurry up and fix (insert bug)
Ironically working on something you like leaves you with less time to actually enjoy that thing. I don't need the devs to be god loopers or 4k streak demons I just need them to be willing to listen to the people who are.
I have never seen any evidence that the people at BHVR don't play their own game. Maybe their just bad at balance. It happens. Look at some of the things famous content creators in DBD community think are balanced. Scott Jund thought old Pentimento was balanced and that survivors should just "git gud".
we’ve seen it before and what happened to flashlights after
They definitely have enough money to create and fund a team of in-house playtesters if they don't have one already, and I feel like there's been a few instances where just playing an hour of real games against something new would immediately reveal things that need to be killswitched/hotfixed.
It's simply a matter of money and how most corpo's don't value Q/A anymore because players don't really care about it anymore (but will still complain.)
Not to victim-blame though, its still entirely BHVR's fault, but money talks.
It's just kinda bizarre to me to act like game developers have to "prove" they play the game, or that they even have to play it to begin with.
And even if they did, a lot of people would absolutely not engage with the streams in good faith at all. If the devs do bad, then that is the source of all evils in the game. If they do good though? Really think they'd just go "Oh my bad, proceed king/queen"? Of course not, it'd be the same old dance of "noob region, noob mmr, noob time of day, come play from my apartment at exactly 3:30am on a thursday or you're not playing real DBD sweetie" that people pull out in other situations already.
Of course. This also happened in the past when some (former) Devs streamed. If the Devs would stream their gameplay, you would probably see a lot of Clips on Youtube of mistakes or errors or quotes which are taken out of context.
The Devs would only lose if they would start streaming their gameplay. Let alone that they are in no obligation to play well to develope a game. And even if they do, as you said, we would just hear the usual stuff.
Daily reminder: the devs literally play the game.
id love to see what the dev meta is! peoples personalities can be summed up by the perks they take, and I wanna know what kind of perks they rely on.
Are they self care enjoyers? Or perhaps Sable Care enthusiasts? Or are they all Inner Strength mains who fight each other and bicker over totems?
Strange how Flashlights were finally fixed in the next patch but I'm sure that's just a coincidence
I mean, if a Dev then destroys a group of Survivors as Killer, you will probably also accept a few KIller Nerfs, will you?
EDIT: Or the other way around, Devs play Survivor in a 4 man SWF… If they still lose, some Survivor Buffs?
This was literally 8 YEARS AGO, the fact that people bring up something from over a decade ago that only pertained to one developer is actually insane. Some of the devs used to stream the game but unfortunately not anymore. Then again I don't blame them as they could mess up by leaking things on accident.
Hey, real quick, how long is a decade?
Yes. its a prime example of getting bad mechanics fixed. Which is why it gets brought up. Hench the relevance
I would expect at the very least the ones in charge of making balance changes to actually play the game. Of course I don't expect the people on the art team to play this game on stream often unless they like what hey make and want to play with it.
But balancers should at least show they do play the game at a semi-competent level so we actually know where the mind set is at especially when they ask balance related questions like "why does gideons have high slug rates" and one of the devs responds with "they're saying pallets" leading us to believe they don't even know why.
That’s what the “consultant network” was supposed to be for, but based on some baffling past decisions, I’m not how much of the consultant feedback they actually listen to.
Meant to put half a decade but was obviously a bit annoyed whilst writing the post hence the miss type lol
But then again, if we would have 4 Devs playing Survivor in a SWF (you know, with comms and so) and they lose a bunch of games to tunneling Killers, would this also be a case of "getting bad mechanics fixed"?
Or is this only relevant if a Dev loses as Killer?
They do. They have a consultancy group who playtest for them. Where do you think all those past leaks were coming from? The leaks aren't as bad now so i guess they figured out who it was. They've also said countless times that they do play the game every day at the office, but obviously they would have deadlines on other things too.
Could be the opposite. Maybe the consultants give bad feedback? We know a number of content creators are on the consultancy program, which I've said countless times i think is a conflict of interest as their feedback could be motivated by their content as opposed to the health of the game.
Lets not pretend they haven't been doing everything in their power to prevent tunneling for the past three years shall we? Literally getting borrowed time, haste, and now elusive for free for just coming off the Hook.
lol.
Yeah, they really, really tried. I can see all their efforts, truely admireable what they all did to do something against tunneling. Shaving off 5 seconds of Endurance just a few days ago for example. This really helped.
But to interpret your answer: You are only interested in Killer improvements and if 4 Devs as a SWF would lose against a tunneling Killer, you would not count that. But if a Dev loses one game against Survivors, there must be huge issues which need to be fixed immediatly.
They promised a big anti-tunnel update, and what they delivered was a 30-second nerf to an anti-tunnel perk.
I think they could've done more, maybe.
Balance devs? Absolutely should be playing/have an understanding of the game on a deep level.
If we’re talking other unrelated devs or higher ups that don’t actually change the gameplay? Its just asking for trouble and will likely accomplish nothing besides 10k hour comp players clowning on bhvr for being bad at the game.
