Comm wheel will be a flop if you allow a toggle.
"Brings all player groups closer in terms of communication, this will also give the design team the ability to balance killers more effectively as survivors they go against will vary less in shareable information"
This sounds great! … but the problem is it isn't going to do that if you allow people to toggle it on and off.
The only way I see a toggle working is if survivors are split into no comm wheel lobbies vs comm wheel lobbies in the back-end, that way players are not getting frustrated when they load into matches and people just have the comm wheel disabled.
Yeah some people dont enjoy it, but they need to get used to it or be put into there own lobbies where its only surviours who dont want to be using the comm wheel.
Like how if you turn off crossplay you only get put with others who have it turned off, not dragging people who do have it on into them.

Comments
People in high MMR solo q will 100% use this feature and probably will be nearly as strong as swf
Fingers crossed that is the case! I just worry system gets added, then everyone just refuses to use it and disables it since they allow toggle
There is literally no disadvantage to have a toggle option on this. If anything it could be a advantage cause you dont fall for trolls. Also it doesnt really matter if you will have it or not, cause most times people do not understand the necessity of certain actions to be taken. You try to make it look like this would benefit this game heavily. I will tell you it wont. Same as in every other game. People there dont even do ehat you tell them by voicecomms, so what should a basic chatwheel accomplish?
There are a multitude of disadvantages that comes with one team mate disabling the whole system.
Now yes you can argue some people will still not take advantage of system. but thats no reason to give people a toggle option for it that will make even less people take advantage of it.
Tell me those mutltiple disadvantages. I am curious.
Increased player frustrations from team mates that refuse to engage in the system at all.
mass lobby dodging players who do have it toggled off.
Increased going next if you hide it in lobby and only show in match.
Goes against the reason the devs stated they wanted to add the system, if there is a toggle how is the system going to
"Brings all player groups closer in terms of communication, this will also give the design team the ability to balance killers more effectively as survivors they go against will vary less in shareable information"Again this can be resolved by adding a split que in back end, comm wheel survivors vs non comm wheel survivors this will not increase the killer que times at all and only potentially increase one of the survivor sides (depending which toggle is more popular)
this would also allow the devs to actually see the data of the difference the comm wheel makes if any rather then having system where some may have disabled some may not.
This is a new system tho and honestly think players just need to adapt to it being in the game and embrace the change, allow UI scaling so they can make it small on their screen.
I will not use that wheel. Makes survivor stronger and they are already much too strong (I am soloq, survivor main). I hope they will buff all killers, when survivor gets that wheel now.
SWF has basekit kindred and bond, this intent wheel nowhere near close
I mean, the players that will turn it off won’t have engaged with it anyway.
This system was never going to make every solo surv a god gamer.
Its not about being good. its just refusing to engage with the system. if it was not allowed to be disabled you would still have to see the information on your screen vs not seeing it at all.
I still think putting survivors who toggle off into there own separate lobbies in the back end would be the best thing to do.
that way people who want it off can turn it off, but people who do want to be using it are not forced to play with people who completely disable the system.
Probably a good way for them to gauge how well it's going upon release. If 100% of players have it toggled on, then that number starts dropping more and more, they'll know something is wrong and can ask why people are opting out.
See.. i am usually totally against this whole ‚Show yourself playing‘ demands when someone gives their own feedback but..
I am very curious about what kind of soloq teammates you get if you can confidently say survivors as soloq is (consistently) much too strong??
I feel the same way about this wheel as I do people trying to shot call in silver in hero shooters. I don't really need to get spammed messages by someone who doesn't know what they're doing.
BHVR updated the HUD and people don't use that information effectively, they let you see your teammates perks and people don't use that information effectively, why on earth would a chat wheel be any different?
Another intrusive system that ruins immersion and still fails to address the real problem in solo queue (matchmaking). No thanks, I'll take the toggle please.
I think you meant to say,
"There is literally noadvantageto have a toggle on this."Because turning it off defeats the purpose of having it in the first place, because your decision to disable it affects your teammates, not just you.Correction: you are soloq killer main.
I would probably give it a try in the beginning but probably wouldn’t keep it on for long. For the same reasons I turn it off in most games. Someone is going to find a way to use it to be irritating. Such as spamming “what a save” or “take the shot”, in rocket league, every time someone makes a mistake. It’s discouraging after a while and causes some people to just stop playing all together.
You always have the option to try and recruit players from matches to join you while you play. Especially if you know that you all use the chat wheel. Better yet, you could even join each other and join discord together. You don’t have to be a full time swf or group of friends to do this. Just play a match or two and send invites to people afterwards.
I do think the chat wheel is a great addition. Especially for people who want to use it all the time or play more competitively. Some people just want to come home from work, or wherever, and enjoy a game or two before they finish off their day.
The feature should help better balance things between the swf and solo q players who already play to win. Which would be good overall for balancing the game. For everyone else, it may make a difference in the matches anyway, but it means they can still play how they want or for the fun of it. Without backlash from others.
But then we'd have 4 separate queues, double that with events.
Crossplay + comms
Crossplay without comms
No crossplay + comms
No crossplay without comms
People will find a way to be toxic with the wheel within a day and some people have thin skin and don't want to see that. Basically every game lets people turn off chat
The people who turn it off weren't interested in being good teammates anyways.
Nothing changes for them.
Will it tell us if someone has it off? At least so people don't waste time using it, if everyone has it off.
I would like to think that players who prefer to toggle it off have some situational awareness and game sense, and don't feel like they need it to understand what's going on. Either way, if people don't want to play with it for whatever reason, that's on them.
Let's also not forget that there will be players who leave it on but ignore what's being said.
I will most likely not turn it off but if a teammate keeps bombarding me with useless things they are getting muted.
Im probably keeping it on... but I doubt itll change anything for me. Bond is my most used survivor perk, so between that and the UI I generally already know what my team is doing.
I think it's fine if it's just an optional thing. If anyone really wants to communicate with their teammates, they've always had the option to party up on discord. As for myself, I'll probably keep it on unless players use it to be annoying or if it ends up causing confusion.
I don't know why anyone would be surprised not everyone would be totally on board with this. I can see how it would break immersion for a lot of players and it is (potentially) a big departure from the way the game has been played for the last 10 years. Not having a complete picture of the game state is something that some players find interesting and actually enjoy. It's a big part of what makes each trial feel different and the game scary and surprising.
If you already SWF, then it's just a worse version of something you already have and it's no big deal, but for us Solos it'll be a completely new experience to be able to communicate with other Survivors. Whether that will end up being a good thing or a bad thing for the health of the game, we'll have to see. But I personally think pushing towards balancing around SWF or a pseudo-SWF SoloQ might turn out to be a monkey's paw in the long run.
I think its a better alternative then forcing people who want to use the comm wheel into lobbies with people who refuse to even turn it on let alone use.
I do not mind waiting a extra min or two for my survivor games if im going to get team mates that dont have the comm system disabled. and will have no effect on killer ques as the survivor pool is still the same, its just how they get paired up that would change. (Killers would have no effect on comm wheel ques as killers would be put into either pool regardless)
So instead of people just getting frustrated when people are not using comm wheel, everyone is put with people who are likeminded so we can avoid tons of player frustrations at players just not turning the system on.
Sort of like a back end ranked and casual.
I dont like the idea i need to go out and recruit players to have a good game experience.
All they need to do is split the ques in the back end. this would keep both sides happy.
Surviours who dont want comm wheel can be paired with thoes who dont want comm wheel and vica versa.
I think having this feature toggleable is correct and no I don't think there should be separate queues for people who use it and people who don't. Especially to start with. People are already making broad assumptions about people who use or don't use this feature and it's not even in the game yet. Let's give it a few months and get some real data and experience with it in DbD before making drastic changes.
I hope this feature is toggleable in a match because I am pretty sure that there are going to be some trolls that'll abuse it if they can. Perhaps the ability to mute certain players would be good so players wouldn't have to toggle the whole feature off entirely. Maybe it'll have a cooldown and won't be so abusable, I'll find out when it comes to the game.
I think this is a very over-broad assumption. There are thousands of players with thousands of hours of experience and the game sense that goes along with that. But some new and as yet untested feature comes along that some of these players may choose to toggle off and you'd brand them a bad teammate.
Someone who knows what to do and gets it done is going to be far more valuable than someone over-using the chat wheel.
If winning is your priority you will put team communication over personal feelings.
Denying your team vital communication preemptively is selfish full stop and I think these players should definitely be marked in pre-game lobby as I'd definitely not want to play with them.
Muting someone who's being abusive in game is completely different and valid though.
It might be selfish, but marking them and avoiding them will prolong the match making for an equally selfish reason?
this is will what happen if the ques are not split and people can toggle off. People will be selfish on both sides.
Youll have people dodge every lobby where someone has turned off.
if you turn it off in lobby and show it only in game, more disgruntled players may ignore you, making games worse (eg people just not going to save people who have comm wheel off then say in end game chat "oh well you didn't call out to us :^) )
you have to tell people if someone has it turned on at some point otherwise its unfair in the other direction doing callouts with no way to know if people get them.
Gonna happen ether way because some of the players on this game are petty.
But if your at the point where you dodging a lobby because"team mate toggled off callout" the problem might not be the person turning it off
I think having the ques merged will make it much more common.
Dont condone, I want lobby dodging to be fixed and have advocated penalizing it in past , but its a issue that will arise more regularly if people who want to use comm wheel are put with people who do not.
People already dodge because of annons, dodging because people dont have comms on will way more because people consider it kneecapping information.
Not gonna lie, if i see a sable with comm wheel disabled, the urge to leave lobby would certainly be there even tho i know lobby dodging is bad.
Not equally selfish by any metric, I want a team that plays for a team.
By preemptively denying your entire team communication over something that >might< happen that's personally offensive, you have already proven that winning is not your priority. I'll pass.
A better comparison would be if perks were visible pre-game, I can tell you I'd probably dodge a lot more as a result, but I blame BHVR for encouraging selfish and bad strategies over the players that use them.
What this player intent system tell over the HUD couldn't?
Like a nea spamming "killer chasing me" with this intent system. But I could already see that with HUD. I still wont know where is the chase taking place so it wont change anything.
And then a Dwight "doing gens" while the HUD shows the exact same.
I really struggle to see how this intent system will change over HUD.
I already see lot of entitlement that certain people think they get to order around teammates and if orders arent followed they will throw a fit.
So ultimately solo will still lack SWF powers as they have basekit kindred , this will do nothing
We don't know the list of commands, and they can always add a proximity bubble if needed.
Being able to ping perks, say if the killer is proxying, communication of 'I found a hex' etc is all very useful.
It's not entitlement to expect teammates in a team game to communicate and play as a team. If we want to make it a 1v1v1v1v1 then make it so I can escape independently of my team.
Can we just have it so people who disable it are shunted into their own que so they can all be terrible together?
Okay I finally read the pinned thread about this chat wheel feature and it doesn't appear like it's going to be that useful of a feature as we already have HUD icons for most of the stuff that appears will be on the wheel. The only useful msgs I even see are split up and something indicating you're going for the unhook or not. It's not like survivors will be able to say "I am at (clock number) and the killer is near me but I am not being chased" like people on Discord can. If you can see more useful stuff there please enlighten me.
They've also said we'll be able to mute players individually so that's great.
But I seriously doubt they'll be giving separate queues for wheel users and non-users or giving us the ability to see if fellow players in the lobby are uses/non-users. We can't see ping, perks or prestige, why would we be able to see whether or not they're using this feature? Someone could keep the feature on and mute the other 3 survivors as a workaround anyway. We've already got too much dodging happening already so why would they add something that would lead to more dodging?
Personally I think lobby-dodging is the most selfish act a player can do. You're ruining matches before they even start.
Personally I think lobby-dodging is the most selfish act a player can do. You're ruining matches before they even start.
Lobby dodging is terrible, But disabling a whole system and just refusing to use it at all right off the bat I also think is pretty selfish when system is being implemented to help soloq.
a split que would make both sides happy and really has no downsides, potinetly slightly longer survivor que for the least popular toggle is better then players being even more frustrated with team mates / matchmaking then they are now. if comm wheel is the least popular toggle ill happily eat a slightly longer survivor que.
People can have opinions of if a comm wheel will work or not. but it definitely wont work if people have it disabled day one and are being lobbied with people who are wanting to use it. The system needs a chance to work.
Yes.
You are always screwing over people with this. Where as the person toggling it off only has the chance of screwing you over.
It can be seen as selfish yes, I can agree that it is a bit selfish. But as per above, dodging is worse because it guarantees your screwing the lobby queue up over a chance of being screwed over by someone toggling it off
I'm Solo and I don't use TAB to look at what Perks you guys are running.
You can't teach this old dog new tricks!
That is not the point they are making about entitlement. What is entitlement is expecting someone to do as you say or do as you want, and get upset if they don't do exactly what you want or say.
There are player in this game who get pissed off for someone not getting off a Gen across the map immediately to save them when they have been hooked. Or take advantage of the hook stage time.
What would be the point of a separate queues for Survivors that have the chat wheel turned on or off, anyway?
If the feature is popular, players that hate the chat wheel will still leave it on if it gives them quicker queues. They'll just be completely ignoring it in game instead. It'll be like the ability to turn cross play off, a feature that absolutely nobody uses because they know they'll be waiting forever for a game. I'll be honest, I have might have a quick glance at the perks my teammates are running at the start to see if anyone has Deli and again for Unbreakable if we all get slugged, but most of the time I forget to even bother checking. The chat wheel will be the same. You can't make people use a feature if they don't want to.
Also the chat wheel itself redundant as it seems like tells nothing else over HUD.
Now if chat wheel could show exact coordinates on the map it COULD be useful but alas this wont happen we stuck with being chased or on gen chat wheel, no point
A ping system to tell your teammates what gen you're on or where you are if you need a heal could be game changing. That really would close the gap between SWF and Solo, but that's not what we're getting here.
I can see some of the commands being handy, though. I'll definitely be telling my 50 hour teammates they need to split up if we get a Legion and the "help!" command will be useful if I'm halfway through my first hook timer and nobody has gotten off their gen across the map to come save me. But yeah, some commands will be more useful that others. I'll have to see what other options there are, but I can't see myself using all 8 spaces on the chat wheel.
I'm really glad they have the toggle option. Basically all information is on the HUD already, and I don't need some annoying teammate to tell me to do gens. While the way they did it is also relatively unintrusive, I find the passive nature of the HUD minmises distractions. The only truly useful one is 'going for the save', which will save some time in solo queue. Personally I would prefer some form of basekit Kindred instead, but realistically that won't happen for a while.
The design and UI does look good, they did a great job.
There must be some downside to splitting the queues otherwise we'd see it happen more often than we do now, which is only for events. I think it would make queue times and matchmaking worse and both are already in a bad place. Knowing what I know now, this whole chat wheel looks like a giant nothing-burger and not the game-changer some think it is. Since it is not going to greatly affect the game there is no point in splitting queues, which would make matches worse for everyone.
They're not going to split queues for this. I'd love see a "poor sport" queue for flagrant DCers & AFKers but we'll never get that either.
I think it's a good test of the feature to see what happens. If it does provide a big advantage and isn't abusable/spammable most players should leave it on and use it. If it provides little/no advantage and/or it's abusable/spammable then more will toggle it off. Also there will be data on how it's used and on lobbies that all/none/mixed use it. This can inform BHVR on how to improve it.
It should be only used if can provide something that HUD cannot, but based on pictures yeah i dont have high hopes at all. Basically another HUD for those who dont bother following it.
I guess the wheel will be ignored by most players becuase we have the hud.
If good players see the following situation:
One person on hook
One person in chase
One on the gen
The last person should know to go for the unhook without one of these survivors spamming that he should go for the unhook.
And if the person is bad in the game they won´t give a flying duck about someone spamming something kind the opposite will happen.
You are spamming me? Now I won´t do it.
They need to force enable this feature and allow players to mute teammates or even specific pings.
Even though i am kinda split on the issue, because i want everyone to enjoy the rebecca called "Wambulance" to sprint across the map spam pinging unhook, her four healing perks and her medkit.
I am traumatized. And in love. Something inbetween.
