Unfair Hit Validation: killers being able to inflate ping or just have high ping for advantages
The ping and regional server issues
Honestly, I feel like if you pay for a game, there should not be a flaw in the game design for years which is ping. Everything about ping in this game is usually broken. Killers can just live somewhere in the Middle East and get 120 ping to my servers since it routes to mine, which is UK. I have a somewhat low ping on survivor around 20 to 25. I verse 120 ping killers so often since I play usually later at night, but even when I play during the day I verse 120 ping. It just rips the fun out of the match and usually makes me just not want to play the game.
Complete lack of counterplay
There is no counterplay. I have changed my playstyle multiple times, and it still doesn't stop the ping from affecting the fun of that match. What can I do to outplay ping? If I pre-drop, they can just bloodlust and swing, hitting me over the pallet. If I don't pre-drop, they do terrible mind games that I manage to win, but I get hit from so far away. The fact that there is no counterplay to this feels completely unfair.
It is such a bad game design to make ping an advantage. I get it, there is delay with ping, but I'd much rather have delay and be able to snipe people than not being able to—which is what most killers would probably prefer since it surely doesn't feel good to win from ping.
Impact on players and better solutions
So many people dislike ping. If you want, just make it so that low of a ping doesn't give too much of an advantage. Make it so where high-ping killers will play against high-ping survivors, or make it so I can opt out of playing with killers over 90 to 100 ping, even if queue times become longer. Since you guys hid the killer's ping in the pre-game lobby, we can't even dodge these lobbies anymore. We are trapped in broken matches and forced to either get frustrated or take a DC penalty. Please give us a maximum ping cap for matchmaking, or at least let us see the killer's ping in the lobby again so we don't have our time wasted.
I've bought this game on at least 5 different accounts since switching from console to PC, and I bought Epic Games DBD as well. You guys make so much money off sales alone. Multiple thousands of people complain about ping and multiple thousands quit the game, so I beg, please take some ideas into account or more people might begin quitting. I've quit this game twice but came back because I do enjoy this game, but it is so annoying when stuff like ping ruins it.
Also, you could begin looking at people's matches who have been reported for VPNing or lag-switching and see their average ping for each match. See if they went from having 30 to 40 ping on survivor to suddenly having 100 plus ping on killer. There is no excuse for that to be anything else. Plus, you could look at which server they play on when on killer vs survivor. You can easily tell if they are VPNing since you can't just go from playing survivor on low ping to playing killer on high ping some days. Every killer game being high ping just needs to have something done about it.
Complaints I've seen
Sorry it was just a massive text blob. I've somewhat tried to make it more readable now. For the punctuation, I don't feel like going through and adding loads of it manually because I'm tired So I just used some software for it. Yes, I don't think this will ever be a change. The devs do care about the money way more than player enjoyability, which I feel like player enjoyability should be a pretty high priority. Survivors being able to VPN as well—survivors could VPN but unless they make it so they are 300 to 500 ping, then its a disadvantage. It can be annoying as well, but I see way more killers VPNing or just inflating their ping to 100 to 160 plus. You don't even have to inflate it, you can just be from the Middle East and get 120 to my servers.
Comments
I dont mean to be that guy, but you have to use punctuation and spacing. Having a wall of text like that is gonna make people not wanna bother reading anything.
Sometimes, it's okay to be that guy.
So BHVR is allowing this behavior, they value $ more than customer experience.
They will NOT make any changes on this issue and will continue ignore the posts/report related to this topic. Just let you know.
Stream-of-consciousness really is not the best way to discuss latency issues
On top of that, I feel that the Ping display is very inconsistent.
I can get Killers who have 140+ Ping (e.g. a Myers who threw his knife after me after I vaulted the Window…) and there was no indicator that he had high Ping. Then other Killers get the high Ping indicator while having way less Ping, like in the 60s and never going above 100.
Or I see Killers who have consistently the same Ping, not changing at all (which would be very unusual), but it is way higher than displayed. E.g. I see a Killer with 24 Ping, it never goes up or down, yet the Hits are ridiculous. This cannot be right.
And well, Window Hits are really bad nowadays. This is an example:
This was me fast-vaulting out of the Jungle Gym and I got hit from inside the Jungle Gym. And if you look where I am on the ground, I was miles away from the window.
But sadly BHVR really does not want to fix anything about it and those bad window hits are happening way more frequently nowadays. And it always looks weird on the survivor end, because either you are getting hit while miles away from the window or you go down without an animation, which is also a good indicator that you got validated.
DUN DUN DUN- DUN DUN DUN
WOW THAT'S ALOTTA WORDS
DUN DUN DUN- DUN DUN DUN
TOO BAD I'M NOT READIN EM
NUKEM THEME
this is not a sided issue, survivors also do this
The game should move to Server-Side Hit Authority as a neutral decider, but instead it's still 'Favor The Killer.' Hits are handled on The Killer's end and only get validated if The Killer's ping exceeds an extremely generous threshold. Last I checked, it was 550 or higher. It's likely much higher today because I ran into a killer some weeks ago with the lag knife icon the whole game, with ping fluctuations of 100-1200 ms and zero issues. He landed every hit, was vacuuming people for miles during grabs/pick-ups, and had no problem getting a 4k. But his experience is way more important than the four Survivors.
The game rewards laggy killers, and so many are accustomed to every hit landing and connecting that it would be a huge undertaking for the devs to wean them off. I remember how nice DH and Pallet Validation were: no more downs while Exhausted and no more fake hits at pallets. It was great; if you got the stun, you were good. Then the killer crying and complaints began, so the devs quietly started reducing the efficacy of these changes until it was back to the old system: getting downed and struck through every pallet.
The devs are more concerned with The Killer's experience, and most of these topics end up with killers whining about being in Timbuktu and how unfair it would be if the servers decide the hits. Meanwhile, they are ok with the fairness of hits being handled on their end, which screws over Survivors. That's acceptable.
But is has not the same effect, cause killers have priority on basicly every action. If youre playing with high ping as survivor it hurts yourself more than anything.
In some ways... I've had survivors that are just teleporting around though. That makes it hard to even M1 someone in a deadzone.
try playing ranged against a surv player with a triple digit ping and tell me how that goes for you
I just had a 2v8 match where a Feng, while playing as Deathslinger and spearing them halfway into the bus loop, got to the vault anyway. Their hit animation was replaced with a slide and into the vault.
Lag sucks when either side lags.
Yeah I couldn’t read that at all
Edit: looks like OP fixed it
To the people claiming survivor ping is an advantage: I have personally played thousands of matches on 170 to 200 ping on my friends' servers for years. There is absolutely zero advantage to it. High survivor ping introduces a terrible delay on literally everything you do, including using your items. It causes you to drop pallets late and get hit miles after vaulting because the server prioritizes the killer's view. High killer ping rewards the lagger with hits, while high survivor ping actively punishes the lagger. They are completely different mechanics. Delay on killer might be bad in some small ways, but you get to hit survivors from far away which is way better. Maybe around 300+ ping on a survivor it becomes an advantage because your character starts completely teleporting around the map, but anywhere around 200 ping is just pure disadvantage.
Though I agree that high ping on survivor is a disadvantage 95% of the time, as someone who plays a ranged killer I cannot hit a player with 150 ping to save my life. The hit will look direct on my end but nothing happens. Meanwhile I'll have a visible miss that goes through as a hit. It's occasionally, in very specific situations, an advantage to the player, but you probably don't even realize it. You just think the killer is missing a lot.
yeah to be fair I can't comment much on killer gameplay since I'm a survivor main, but I do agree with being difficult to hit ranged killer shots when a survivor is high ping I mainly am just talking about my experience in this whole thing but yeah ranged killers do struggle against high ping survivors. To me it feels smaller though since you can just m1 or even chase the other survivors if one of them is high ping but when the killers high ping I can't do much in solo q but your point is definitely correct.
Oh thats MUCH better
Oh I dig it. I love being on high ping and being hit at a window I vaulted 5 days ago. It's certainly much worse. I've occasionally gone against ranged killers when I've got high ping and they can never hit me. That's how I know it's hurting them too because I've been there. But yeah survivor is far worse, for sure.
While ping is a huge issue, there isn't anything BHVR can do besides add more servers and improve the net code. Unfortunately, they don't seem inclined to do that. They also can't tell the difference between someone with bad internet and someone manipulating their latency or VPNing. So it just is what it is.
I remember back when the game was peer to peer and we could see the killer's ping an I landed in a lobby as survivor where the killer had 1,700 ms ping. Dude had to be playing over a satellite connection or something. I stayed and played because I wanted to see what would happen. It was wild and I died.
The only way I see for BHVR to fully address this, is to absolutely stop playing the game and spending money so their hand can be forced on adding more servers, a ping limiter or ping visibility in lobby or completely fixing the net code. If everyone can just stop their addiction of this game
I think thats internet drops taking the action you where doing before the drop and not high ping.
I had a situation where my net had a lil spat and my screen just froze for 2 seconds and when I came back killer had lost chase with me. I felt bad and let them down me because they where close to hit otherwise.
all tho I would rather just be downed if my net does that then let me teleport away in direction I was running
Literally impossible since hits are validated by the killer.
