Recall stealth is significantly better as beforehand you weren't even stealthy as survivors would see the drone being placed and think "Oh they're right here." Now you can actually sneak up on survivors, trick them into thinking you're leaving mid chase, or force survivors off gens by thinking you are going to come to it by recalling the drone that was recently hacked.
Even if, there is literally no reason to ask for an extreme skill floor on a killer with literally no skill ceiling. I keep hearing Skull Merchant mains actually agreeing on her having one scan line and it is the dumbest thing ever. Skull Merchant is allowed to be more accessible, not every killer has to have a Nurse level of skill floor. And honestly I think recall stealth is also harder to play around, especially for beginners.
-
Couldnt agree more. I would even argue to say that if she got the second scanline and the stealth mode back, there would be no need for a rework. The problem back then was that she got random haste when a survivor on the other side of the map got scanned. And for god sake, I hope they do NOT listen to any of pixelbushes idea this time, the recall stealth was already horrible.

Skull Merchant got killed because she was literally holding games hostage for over an hour and even with the gen regression limit could easily make a game last more than a half hour. If they can make her power stronger without making it so it's the most tedious thing to play against by all means buff her.
Im talking about her version after the first rework. That version did NOT hold games hostage for an hour yet got nuked for no reason.

that's because on release she was like the worst experience a lot of people have ever had in this game, I hope they entirely redo her design or she gets outright deleted even if she's F tier now

Why was a perk that could originally reduce every single debuff by almost 20 seconds been reduced to a perk that only affects one debuff and reduces the time by MAYBE ten seconds... It's not even worth a perk slot anymore you've made it trifling egregious nothingness thank you so much behavior yeah let's definitely look into this it's definitely "low value" only a rocket scientist would be able to figure that out
Skull Merchant also got massacred and still is to this day yet no one cares

It will likely be next year. The midchapter they said will not have any Killer Tweaks in it. Recently on their discord stream they mentioned skull merchant and rework. They said they have something really cool down for her design wise on paper, which leads me to believe they haven’t really started the work in terms of coding and redesigning her.
The Terrifier comes end of November. They will hard focus on his license to make sure it’s clean and not another Houndmaster release because right after that we will have bonechill, and then the devs go on a 2 week break.
The dev that did create skull merchant though seems excited to see her back in action and is excited about working on her again.
so another year of her being literally the worst killer in the game, sadge

What would remain the same:
→ drone's single line
→ rotation speed
→ maximum of three scans
What would change:
→ Undetectable is now granted on deploy (this allows sneaky approach)
→ claw trap is received when hacking drones
→ each scan inflicts 10 % hindred for 5s
→ scans decay over time
This would significantly help Skull Merchant to have a chase tool while making random scans momentarily
Stealth mode needs to return, there is no way around it. And I think it is slightly better idea if hacking a drone would just give you a lockon stack instead of a clawtrap instantly. And the second scanline should return as well imo

I mean that's highly likely, it's a rework they've had a lot more time for than her original rework that they probably rushed to release. I think if they just reversed some of her changes to when her stealth and scanlines worked differently that wouldn't really be considered a rework and the community would be outraged
I mean it was the same as Trickster though, his rework was essentially also a revert of changes they made back in the day, like him being 4.4

Although I'm interested to see what the Skull Merchant rework will bring so that she will be a viable killer, the drones scanning through walls and being unable to crouch them is already dangerously approaching OG Skull Merchant territory, which would be incredibly unhealthy and unfun for the game, and would terrorize lobbies.
BHVR is gonna have to be very careful to not create another situation like that. I really hope they're able to create a power that is both more fun to play with and against.
I think if there is no way for stealth drones or double scanlines to return (or my suggestion of beams scanning through objects), then the lock on system ( 3 scans - injury) needs to be completely removed. Its just way too much work for little to no reward.

@Wezqu said:
There is a stealth mode every time you recall a drone.
Im not talking about undetectable. Im talking about the drone beams being stealth (eg stealth mode) which allowed for a trap playstyle and this was removed back in patch 8.3.0.

Map changes (especially Gideon Meat plant), Skull Merchant rework (announced for 2 years already), and nerfs to toolboxes

Its crazy that anyone would downvote this considering that Skull Merchant is literally the weakest killer in the game currently. There is no killer more deserving of a buff
its just people being ignorant, nothing new

They dont balance Killers on Data only. And no, her first Rework was miserable as well, she was still boring to go against, she was boring to play for most people and slapping on every status effect in existence did not really fix her.
I can guarantee you you would not say this if she was like that on release. I just know for a fact that 90% of people who think this are biased on her first iteration. And yes, they do balance killers almost solely on data. Otherwise they would not have hard nerfed a killer that was high C tier at best.

The problem is that the Rework changed her a lot. I think she would overall be more interesting to play and play against with it, but BHVR has a really bad track record with reworks. So I can understand why the three people who like Skull Merchant were not happy about the announcement of the rework.
The sad reality is that she needs a Rework. I think her Kit is beyond saving, her power was flawed from the start and it was clear that she will be a boring snoozefest and the Devs knew it as well and just nerfed her into the ground so that she is not played.
I see no way how she can be a decent midrange Killer with her current Kit without her being completely obnoxious to go against again.
Her first rework was totally fine and the reason she got hardnerfed wasnt because she was "boring" to face but because entitled survivor mains refused to play against her and kept giving up on hook, hence why she had an artificially high kill rate of 70%. This is why you dont balance killers based on data only. Before the nerfs, her counterplay was no different than to her current version. The only difference is, it was much easier to get value out of her power, but to be honest that was justified considering that the drones only injure you (and hinder, but only if you already are broken). Now you have to scan people 3 times with 1 scanline for merely an injury. And avoiding the beams is ridicilously easy, killing her trap playstyle completely.

We were gonna get a rework but all the Skull Merchant "Mains" came out of the shadows to moan about it, I thought it looked a lot of fun to play.
So thank them, I don't see them playing her now either.never heard this before. All skull merchant mains I heard of are desperate for a rework

Jason: I can zoom cross map, have insane antiloop, built in moris and survivors can't see me in power.
Vecna: I can zoom cross map, ignore entire enviroment, playing hit or miss spam rodeo.
Skull merchant: I can deploy drone that don't do anything.
Couldnt have said it better myself, its sad but reality

They dont care about killers so I wouldnt get my hopes too high. Skull Merchant for example was intentionally trashed in 2024 and has not been touched since.

asdfghjk I hate this.. Literally NOBODY UNDERSTANDS stealth on recall and why it is significantly better. Okay let me explain this for all of 5 people who own skully and do not know about how much stealth on recall is SIGNIFICANTLY BETTER.
Being undetectable when you drop a drone the survivor knows you're still there because of the fact that they can see the drones aura / scan lines. Plus the actual usable amount of undetectability is way shorter than you realize along with it being on a cool down doesn't help, so you might as well just moonwalk.
When you become undetectable your TR doesn't immediately disappear it slowly shrinks in case you didn't know so dropping a drone in chase wouldn't help nearly as much as you thought it would. Because of this undetectable on recall Is significantly better as it has zero cooldown, has a longer effective use time, and survivors do not know when you become undetectable or if you left chase. There is also the added bonus of the fact that if you recall a drone on a gen then exit chase for a couple of seconds survivors think you are coming to them so you can proc DMS.
Credit to @MrRetsej as I hate explaining this to people over and over so I basically just copy pasted what they said when clarifying my comment on why undetectable on recall requires more skill and whatnot yada yada I left a couple things out but these are the main reasons why its so much better.
its more the single scanline and no stealth mode that killed her. she is super unfun to play now

I like this idea, but I think out of every killer Skull Merchant needs one the most urgent

I don't even think she needs a full rework she just needs to be reverted to her previous strength (keep stealth on recall tho) she wasn't even that insane unless you played chess merchant which was removed when the gen kick limit became a thing.
this is what I mean by saying its problematic balancing the game ONLY on data. Because it is extremely easy to manipulate (giving up on hook, dc)
