But what about those killers that don’t need the aid? Are we nerfing them at the same time? People would just continue to use them and dominate at any time. Just as people say not to balance the game based off low ranks, you don’t balance (nerf) survivors based off weaker killers.
That's a very good point. We can't just cater to the M1 killers, but we also can't ignore that they're in an awful spot right now. Without some help, we'll continue seeing the same four or five killers again and again because that's the way you win (unless the survivors aren't very competent).
-
There's no other game out there quite like this. If I want to relax and farm some points, I can play survivor or killer and chill. If I want to win, I can actually try and be successful based on my skill verses the killer or survivors (sometimes, I'm rank 12 on both). I'm also a bit sadistic apparently. I don't trash talk exactly, but I do have commentary when I play killer (I don't stream or record).

It's really not that through, if I get hit by NOED, I understand it's my fault (exception: when I don't have time to do bones and my teammates are lazy) ☹
I, as well as many other players, want something interesting in the game, not a perk the killer can possibly use out of the hundreds of perks out there that practically forces you to cleanse all totems. Perks shouldn't be used to cover up actual problems in the game because then you get to a point where killers are perk dependent, ya know? The community doesn't like killers who are add-on dependent, but you shouldn't have to hard lock a perk into your build to have a decent chance.
For example: M1 killers tend to use the Spirit Fury Combo because some maps are outrageous in pallets. This is so crazy that the developers recognize the problem, and decided to rework some maps.
I can agree that we need something that doesn't make hex ruin and noed required for m1 killers to be successful, and to give survivors some variety, but then the issue becomes what can MOST survivors and killers agree on is fair? Of course there will always be complaints no matter what is done, but what will get the majority of players on board?
-
It's actually fairly balanced these days for me. 2.5
Killers are SUPPOSED to be the dominant force in this game. Survivors are meant to struggle a bit considering they have no way to "down" the killer. The pace of the game should always be dictated by the killer as they're the reason for the struggle in the first place. Without them, there's no game beyond "click a button at the right time".
As the devs have said, 2k 2s is the balance. If a killer struggles too much, why play them? Same for survivors.

Since you believe totems are a secondary objective, which I respect your opinion, but out of curiosity, why do generators continue to get done way too fast? I thought this problem was addressed a long time ago.
To skip to the point I'm trying to make, totems aren't secondary objectives — they are optional objectives because you're aren't forced to cleanse them. I see many survivors, including myself, ignore totems and escape scratch free.
If they are indeed optional objectives, then there should be no complaints about NOED or Ruin when it's entirely up to survivors if the perk exists or not. But we see a huge number of complaints about these perks being "OP" anyway. So they're either optional and survivors complaining are just lazy, or they're secondary objectives that are ignored because survivors see gens as the end all be all.

Totems=Hold m1/R2/RT longer, this post is about holding m1/R2/RT for long periods of time isn’t funTM.
I'm not sure what you want then. Do totems. You get blood points, emblem, and get to dodge/mess with (hopefully) the killer. Not even trying to is on you, not the game.
Though I want some sort of mandatory second objective to complete gens before the gates will open (gas to power them, parts to fix them properly, idk) to help out M1 killers, I know it won't happen without a slew of complaining from both sides. So at this point if you want some spice in your games look for totems, dull or not. There's not much else that can be done.

@Theluckyboi said:

Lol no, repairing the gens will always be your primary objective
looking up for the ruin makes you waste a lot of time, no point on doing that tbh.
On that note, there's no point in complaining about NOED or Ruin when you flat out refuse to do totems. They're meant to be a secondary objective and ignoring them is on the survivors. (Not pointing you out specifically, just those that complain about Hex perks)
-
That being said, a mandatory second objective should be added to aid M1 killers and add more suspense/fun for survivors. It's no fun for either side to have two gens done when playing as the pig (or another M1) before you even get a glance at a survivor

It's getting real tiring to power through generators with Ruin, and I understand that killers need a that time to get sacrifices... but man, it feels so terrible to stay in one place for the majority of the game, ya know? I, and as well as the community, want the monotonous time we spend repairing generators be dispersed into other small, fun tasks.
I know you get told this a lot as the developers of Dead By Daylight, so instead of suggesting something, I would like to know if you have anything planned to shake things up for survivors. It's okay if you don't have an exact date or a Soon™ to share, but something as small as "We are thinking about it" or "It's definitely possible in the future" will really soothe us! :)
I already suggested something to mix things up for survivors, click the link below to see my suggestion if you're at all curious! 🙂
Just get rid of the totem, do the secondary objective. Ignoring it and powering through gens is the OPPOSITE of what you're supposed to do.

Lightweight is useless to me strictly because you're wasting time on stealth these days. Unless you run iron will, no mither, lightweight, and distortion the killer will ALWAYS have a way to track you. At that point though, you're squandering your potential in helping the team.

Sprit fury gives you a free hit. On killers with instadawn, it is a free hook. All you have to do is break 2 pallets. Is it broken?
While I agree that the old version of MoM was broken, but the perk was over-nerfed. The perk in its current state is the worst survivor perk in my opinion.
Lightweight is currently the worst to me. At any rate, spirit fury isn't broken unless paired with enduring and at that point they're expecting to be looped to hell and are playing m1 killer. I can also agree MoM was nerfed a bit too much, especially since protection events are finicky at the best of times.

"Many consider Legion the bottom of the barrel"
idk, I hear a lot of people groan when they go up against a Legion but that's just what I witness (I dunno about anyone else). It seems people still don't like facing him even if most people consider him one of the worst killers. Well, why would some hate going against a Legion if he's awful? I guess there are still people out there who lowkey think he's good enough to be a pain of a killer to face.
I personally like Legion as is but I just suck at killer (mainly because I rarely play killer), otherwise I might be fine.
It's not about being good or not, it's that he's annoying to deal with much like the Doctor (the doctor is a better killer, but only mid-tier). Survivors have killers they hate dealing with, but that doesn't mean they're good is the point.
It's also not that he's awful, he's just currently at the bottom of the list as in currently the worst (someone has to be). That's why updates for game balance need to be constant and consistent so no one sits down there for long (Freddy). Though I can see how my OP sounds like I'm calling him terrible, I'm more or less calling him currently the worst but that doesn't mean I'm calling him terrible.
He's fun, my favorite to play currently, and I always get one kill at the very least, but he desperately needs some dev love. I also have another post about ALL M1 killers needing the same kind of love. Some are rare to see, others you just don't see because they're just meh at best.

Honestly I'm just happy with getting THREE new characters. Balancing comes with time, and we can finally get something new and refreshing going soon. I'm excited no matter the perks

I think you're going the wrong direction with this. Deep Wounds shouldn't down people unless they're being idiots and just. Not mending. Legions design is supposed to force survivors to take time to mend. The time should be lengthened but have skill checks imo. Maybe prevent generator interactions or slow gen progression when deeply wounded.
I actually like that idea a bit more. Maybe also remove the ability to complete mending even if the timer runs out (you start mending with 14 seconds left, takes 15 seconds to mend, you go down without a friend's help [takes 10 seconds with help])

I'm talking about the moonwalking exploit. You follow the blood without looking at the survivor, cutting off the chase so they start bleeding and fall.
Ahh, yeah that's no bueno. Hadn't thought of that actually. Maybe a sudo M&A then? Make his terror radius about the same as the Huntress' outside of the chase, then standard 32m during? Something along those lines to prevent tunneling but give his power that bit of oomph it needs.

I didn't say bring back low cd for missed attacks, lower the bar for repeated hits (tunneling), or any such thing. How is what I suggested old Legion?
-
@DocMain said:
To killers complaining about gen rush - how about you stop tunneling, camping and tryharding when you already hooked 3 people and there are 5 gens left with ruin up.
That's not gen rushing. Gen rushing is just a term for survivors that ignore totems (or healing), focusing on nothing but gens, and complain about NOED. Also for M1 killers that have 2 gens done before they even see a survivor.
-

Love the fact that stranger things is the next chapter but I'm wondering if the Nancy and Steve will have separate perks or if this will be like e legion. Seems a bit unfair if survivors get 6 new perks and killers only get 3.
It's confirmed 2 seperate survivors. The number of perks doesn't matter, but what they do.
-
I subscribe to the mantras of other killers. No rules, no code of honor, my job is to kill/sacrifice. As long as I don't use exploits, cheats, or anything like that it's fair game. If a survivor is always around to flashlight me when I down someone, I might "tunnel" them to get rid of that threat. If the doors are open and I hook a survivor, I might "camp" because I know the others will come for them. Your job as survivor is to escape, you can do gens or leave when someone camps. You can NOT be altruistic and leave them. But you made the decision to not do so and I capitalize on that.
-
Oh I just want a perk or general buff to legion. If he inflicts deep wounds, sprinting drains the timer.

If she would be (Spirit) killer about skill and prediction, not about easy tracking bc her "downside" not seeing surivors is a joke when she can hear breathing, grunts of pain, interaction with gens, with totems, with lockers ect. sees footsteps, see interaction with environment like grass, corn fields she just have this too much, it's not a skill like many ppl say, it's reading like from book, nothing else
So you'd rather be 100% undetectable when the spirit uses her power? Maybe the moving grass is a bit much, but without the rest there'd be no point in using her power.

@DetailedDetriment said:
As it stands now, NOED is entirely unbalanced in the Killer's favor. They get a movement speed boost and permanent Insta-down attacks if the totem is never found. NOED has recently been popping up in every survivor match I play, along with an ebony mori. This combination makes it impossible for survivors to escape if they find themselves in a chase unless they're one sneaky Nea or Claudette, or if they happen across the hatch. The perk is even appearing in high rank games I'm in such as a Freddy I went against yesterday with top tier NOED and an Ivory Mori. He was rank 7. Games like this show that certain perks are completely unbalanced and that killers don't want to have a fun time playing and learn how to mindgame survivors. Instead they want the game to be on a sort of easy mode. I personally see this as a pathetic attempt at a win.
As it stands right now, NOED doesn't need a buff or nerf; it needs a complete rework.
Do the bones and you don't need to worry about NOED. It's a non-issue unless you decide to just run by the totems you see while doing gens, cause we know you see at least one or two just at the start of the game.
-
The balancing is fine honestly. Survivor perks get nerfed because they're sometimes OP (old DS, MoM, etc.) Killer perks don't get nerfed directly, but indirectly. SB on Wraith is useless because of the changes long ago, for example.
-
@Jplanas98 said:
Maybe it'll be a legion situation. You pay only for the one character, but they treat the others as an outfit. So to play the Other survivor you just simply switch the characters "outfit"
Already announced that they're two separate characters
-
I would add a small, but mandatory second objective before gens could be completed. Such as finding a gas can to fill them up. As in you can work on gens, fully repair them, but they won't power the doors until they have fuel. Probably make one can enough for all 5 gens. Something to slow down the game so it isn't 7 minutes long.
-
@thesuicidefox said:
The only change I want to see for NOED is add some sort of "tell" that will tip off a survivor you have it. I suggested elsewhere that a very very low percentage of skill checks would not have a great zone. Something like 1/50 skill checks. This would be the clue that the killer has NOED, which then encourages survivors to slow down and look for totems. Because at the end of the day that's what you want as killer, for the game to slow down. If you lose your one shot + speed boost but made the game like 5 minutes longer because of it, is it not worth it? I think so. Then there really would be no excuse for letting NOED proc because you will know when it's in play.
Alternatively, they could make the NOED proc when the last gen pops instead of when the survivor gets hit. I think the most lame part about NOED is just that you don't know until you get hit. If you got the notification when the last gen pops then it would be way less lame because you know to play more cautiously now. It's not going to be a "does he have NOED?" *survivor gets hit*, yes/no, type of thing.
I think it's honestly fine as is. If you're worried about NOED or wonder if a killer has it, pop totems. There, they absolutely don't.
-
Dunno what's been up, but I'm happy. Tonight I waited no more than 2 minutes for a killer match in the course of a good 10 games. Rank 13
-
Oooooor it means we can get a killer/survivor combo that actually fits into the game. If we get a demigorgon I'm calling for a Xenomorph or riot.

Because Spine Chill is not a solution to her bad game design. It's a bandaid.
I shouldn't have to bring a perk to have not the chance -- just the ABILITY, to outplay a Spirit. Without them, it's literally a guessing game from the survivor's perspective. As I've said, survivors get absolutely nothing to know if she's even phasing or not, let alone where she is when phasing.
A good Spirit who knows how to hear foot steps, read scratch marks, see grass rustle, hear a survivor's groans of pain, or just their breathing, is going to get a hit every single time. There is literally nothing a survivor can do. There's no counterplay to it. There's no interactivity.
The fact that this killer can literally have their player take their hands off the mouse and keyboard and can randomly get free hits from that alone just shows how little interaction there is from the survivor's side. The killer can literally go AFK for 15 seconds or so and the survivors would as a result be deathly afraid because there's no distinction between a Spirit who's using her power, to one that is actually AFK, speaks volumes of how little interaction Spirit has with the Survivor side.
In the same narrative, M1 killers shouldn't HAVE to bring Hex Ruin just to stand a chance, but they do. It's part of the game and makes certain killers viable again. It may feel like a forced decision to you to need a perk to counter this one specific killer, but if you want your game to be easier then you'll do it the same as a Clown will take Ruin.
-
It depends for me. Out plays are fine, but the moment you teabag on the other side of a pallet, you can bet I'll ignore the others til you're gone. Then there's endgame camping. If it's the only way I can get a single kill because I decided to try wraith or LF (even though I avoid them because I'm terrible with them) then im going to do it.
-
Well let's not forget that DbD doesn't specifically require that survivors currently be alive in their series or even current (could be season one or two). In all honesty, give me Bob Newby (Sean Astin) or bust.

If you run BT it should only work on you just like DS.. get it now?
Do you perhaps mean both the hooked and rescuer should get it? Because that just isn't fair to a killer who suddenly has no way to stop it whatsoever.

I guess I just haven't gone against a good pig, though I've never seen a wraith get 3k since I hit 13 rank. Might just be luck. As it stands though, go to rank one and anyone outside of the big 4 loses nearly every time.

So let's make a hypothetical. You use the ward on a plain, no add-on brown tool box. You drop it because you found an engineer toolbox. So instead of saving the engineers toolbox, you want the plain, brown one? Because that the exact situation you're creating.

Again you fail to see the points made. WW should protect the item no matter what, as in it should be changed to work that way. Not that it's broken and doesn't work.
Furthermore, all those counters are perks countering other perks, or tactics countering perks. None of them are PERKS countering OFFERINGS. There is no other instance of this in the game. Frankie's V WW is the only time this becomes a thing. So stop making false comparisons that have nothing to do with the discussion.
Again, you show an ACTUAL bias. You want the ward to function the way you think it should rather than how it actually does and playing to that. It's not a "save my best item and add-ons no matter what". It's "if I die with this item, I don't lose it."
-

Learning how to play a killer is all well and good, but the world's best Wraith or Pig will lose to a decent survivor team every time because three out of five gens are done in 3 minutes. Then only one survivor has to be decent at loops to get the last two.

They don't negate your offering though. If you offer a mori, no survivor perk will counter that.
Distortion has limited use.
Calm Spirit can be countered by aura read or illusion extension add-ons for Doc.
No Mither you still make sounds, and Spirit can use Stridor to counter Iron Will.
BBQ only works after a hook (by the time all 3 distortion counters are done, only one MAYBE two gens should need done), the counter to a Mori is don't get hooked or just die on the hook, just pair distortion and calm spirit to counter the Dr then, and I messed up on countering the Spirit. Just take iron will.
Don't act like removing an item from a survivor is broken when you were able to read what the offering did. It's not some secret or glitch, it says very specifically what it does. It didn't do what you wanted instead of what it says. So obviously it's broken to you.

Ehhhhh, Legion's power hurts him and Deep Wound doesn't do anything, also, his add ons are GARBAGE but that is already being looked at.
Honestly his power wouldn't be nearly as bad if they significantly lowered the timer. It won't start until outside his terror radius, standard 32m, so 30sec is FAR to long of a timer when it takes 15 seconds without help, 10 seconds with help, and the mending process stops it from downing you even if 30 seconds pass (as long as you're in the process of doing it, it won't down you). Cut it down to 8 seconds to heal, 15sec timer, same with or without help, down you even if mending as long as outside the terror radius, and automatically cause exhausted status until you get rid of it.

Wraith needs to be handled separately. He needs buffs and QOL changes to make him anywhere near good. For example, he should have his green windstorm speed, I think, by default when cloaked. Maybe his uncloak could be a small bit faster too.
Otherwise, Bubba is the same way. He is basically punished for using the saw.
Legion and Plague are not nearly as bad as people say. Plague is good, just has a bit harder time handling loops.
Piggy is... okay?
That's my point in all of this though. M1 killers need something to change, anything really, or they'll become nothing but (bigger) jokes and memes. Survivors don't even really care when you play anyone outside of the big 4. They're waiters serving you your breakfast of pallets, loops, and gens done in 5min.

Tell me, what is the point of removing the item from a survivor's inventory? There is no reason you should even care, the only thing that matters when you use Frankie's is that the survivor cannot use the item during YOUR trial.
So killer add-ons shouldn't be removed at all either? Cause you shouldn't care right? Iri heads every game are cool right? Like an engineer box with add-ons every game for every survivor? You CAN use a perk to disable a killer add-on lmao. Hell, some survivor perks negate killer perks. Distortion, killer can't see my aura no matter the add-on or perk for three instances. Yea and it shouldn't be that way. If you bring a WW you are doing it to protect your item. That's what it's meant to do. Give me a reason why you need to outright remove the item from a survivors inventory if they use an offering specifically to protect their item.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/635398#Comment_635398
Okay then DS should make you immune to moris. I'm sure you would think that's fair since perks should override offerings. If you don't agree that should be a thing then you are a hypocrite.
Perks can be reused. Offering cannot.
WW should protect your item no matter what. It's bad design that it doesn't because not only would you lose an item you waste an offering too.
Ds does not state it protects you from moris. The ward SPECIFICALLY states it protects your (YOUR) item if you die. Don't have it on you? Not yours. Man you're biased.

Same as you having no eveidence of it not happening as well I guess.
The evidence of it not happening is you're literally the ONLY one claiming it does. No where else on the internet but here, by you. Until you prove it via recording, it does not exist.
-
The easiest way to explain it at this point is dropping an item is like using all of it's charges. It's gone. For good. Picking it back up is like finding an identical item to the one you used up! So, if used up there is nothing there for the ward to save unless you pick up the new, identical item. Wanting it to save your dropped item is like asking for the game to open a chest and give you an identical item to the one you used up. A do-over, a freebie, whatever you'd like to call it.
You already get to keep the item and add-ons if it's in your hands and you escape, but you're asking for an offering to keep your item and add-ons even if you die without having it on you. As biased as they come.
