Then we should make it possible for the killer to go for as many hooks as possible right?

Dont you think it is possible? Or rewarding?

But i am always for good killer design tho, if this is what you are implying here. A killer that can go for many hooks are Blight, Billy or Demo, just to name a few. Named killers are overall considered fun killer, by survivor at least.

Again a fair point. But in this case the gen example is kind of apples and oranges.

Killer is the antagonist they are in game for the full run no matter what happens. That's why it 1v4.

As survivor you aren't guaranteed to be in game for the duration that's part of the game. The whole concept of survivor is to avoid elimination whether that elimination comes early or late or not at all is a caveat of DBD.

We can quibble over whether we think this is good or bad, but its a fundamental part of the survival horror element of the game. I'd say one of the best elements of it.

Why does DBD elicit the over the top response from people that it does, sometimes moreso than other games? I think its because there is this underlying threat of just being taken out and that visceral kind of game experience can generate an equally visceral response from players.

Personally I think that's amazing and spot on for the horror genre that DBD sits in.

The mechanics of DBD are pretty simplistic and anytime BHVR attenuate the threat of elimination it becomes a lil more bland to play, especially as survivor.

A big part of this is queue times - a game that has a 10 min wait for a 2min game is probably gonna frustrate a few people but I still don't think that is enough of a reason to undermine the survival horror nature of the experience.

I dont think at all it is a bad comparison, why would it be? You say that, but wont provide any counter to it.

Also not sure what my point has to do with "horror game"? Because it is a horror game, awful experience is justyfied? You say it with very nice words, but bottom line, it is exactly that what you discribe. At least this is how i read it.

The reality is, that we need both killer and survivor player. In fact, we need a lot more survivor player to get this thing going. If our only explanation of bad game design is that it is supposed to "feel bad" then this game is clearly taking the wrong path.

We should root for BETTER game design. Nobody with a sane mind (i hope!) would argue that tunneling one person out of the game while the others are sleeping on gen is more fun then a killer who spreads hooks across the board and everybody gets his fair share of gameplay. Right?

Hey, peeps, i was just wondering who can be described as best killer by skills, because lately i only face noobs who has no skills in movement and hunting, but using Mayers with add on for one shot all the time and I was wondering amongst the other killers who doesn't depend on one shot, who is the best one? And more required to use skills (by skills i dont mean one shot add on all the time or instant kill or some add on like this), like for example i only play with trickster and legion and those are killers wjo requires some normal playstyle, some good aim, logic, etc. i would like to hear ur opinions for killers like this. Again, Mayers and Bubba are not in this category for me.

You mean killer who are hardest to master?

If so, i would say Hillbilly and Blight mechanically. Also very hard in my opinion is Singularity.

  • I dont get how this is hard to understand tbh. The problem of tunneling is that it is a very bad experience in general.

3 people have a snooze fest by sitting on gens (hopefully). No gameplay, no interaction with the killer. I hope everybody agrees on that sitting on gens is the least intersting thing in DBD.

1 person gets the unpleasent experience of beeing tunneled of the hook with little chance of escape and fun chases. It should be clear that a chase is not fun when you get hooked in a deadzone, beeing proxicamped and then downed before the survivor can reach any form of safety.

You raise fair point. But ask yourself why is it frustrating? Its just gameplay. If people find gameplay elements frustrating maybe DBD isn't for them. A game that involves an early elimination is still mechanically identical to a game of DBD where there isn't an early elimination.

Is it the perception of increased difficulty, the thought they won't earn as many BP's (A completely free and infinite currency that is passively earned simply by playing). A hyperfocus on game outcome over gameplay?

We aren't talking about a broken mechanic here, we are talking about the killers ability to choose whom to chase. The mechanics of a chase are the same whether you are being "tunneled" or not. The onus is on the team to make good saves and take hits. The onus is on the survivor to escape chase "tunneled" or otherwise.

There is a fundamental problem with your statement. Just because it is gameplay does not mean it is good gameplay. Imagine gens would be done in (an extreme example) 10 seconds. That would also be gameplay. Horrible experience for both sides and completly unfair. But gameplay nevertheless.

Tunneling does not get punished enough. So yes, i would argue that it is a broken mechanic. Tunneling is just way to easy and rewarding for the killer while also the most frustrating and boring experience for the other side, at least for the majority of people. Its a big flaw in this game in literaly any possible way.

Don't lump everyone into an assumption.

I don't get triggered or grumpy over being tunneled and neither do any of the players I SWF with. (One of the reasons why I SWF with them they don't go auto blaming tunneling and camping for any kind of game outcome).

Its just part of the game and the killer may go for an early elimination or not.

Things to learn to avoid being eliminated early.

    1. Don't get found first, play less overtly and more stealthy at game start till the killer is occupied elsewhere then slam a gen. If you run everywhere all the time you are gonna get found early.
    2. Run with a plan, layouts aren't that complex and tend to be pretty similar across most maps, there is usually a better way to loop most structures... learn it.
    3. Build to counter the mechanics that you struggle against. Are you good at gens but get caught in chase then take chase and info perks, are you good at chase but miss skill checks on gens then take gen perks, do you dislike being slugged take anti slug perks. You can build to try and counter most things.
    4. Realize that early elimination, like many games, is just part of the game. It could happen to you accept that fact. The very threat of elimination and non-participation is what makes games of DBD so intense. Without it the game would be very bland indeed, learn to love that aspect of the survival horror. The game's excitement level depends on it.
    5. Lastly someone eliminating you early isn't some personal slight or attack on your fun, its just gameplay don't go spilling a bad gaming attitude into the real world and abusing other players over a game.

These 5 simple points can make any game of DBD fun when playing survivor, even if targeted and eliminated early.

Thanks for your post. A good one. I do have to add a few important things.

What some people dont realise somehow is how big of a problem this already is. Maybe not for everyone, but in my games at least there is a very high chance (way above 50%) someone gets tunneling right from the beginning. I am not saying that this is unwinable with a good team (i am glad you and your SWF dont care!) but in Solo where coordination is bad and gens wont fly like in your SWF game, its just super frustrating. Not all the games are lost and when the killer for some reason picks me, i can usually give the killer a good chase and buy a lot of time. The chance of that is unfortunatly only about ~25%.

Your ideas are fine and i am sure a new players will take note, but those dont imply to tunneling in those games i am in for a very simple reason: Even a semi-experienced player will hook the survivor in a deadzone and proxicamp. Tunneling off the hook is almost a guaranteed down. Random players dont understand the concept of pathing and create deadzones within 30 seconds of the game. Every killer including myself knows this.

Defending tunneling in my opinion in the slightest is like defending other broken mechanics like old DS or BNP. It wont contribute anything to the goal of getting a better game, rather make it even worse.

  • My upcoming achievement in ~2026, when i finally do the 50 wins on Trapper without camping and tunneling. 😀

In the same vein that survivors chose to work on gens with progress already on them instead of seeking out gens without progress, the killer seeks out survivors who are closer to death than ones who are further away from death.

    Do they have a choice?

  • @radiantHero23 said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3590349#Comment_3590349

    No.

Tunneling = doing the objective as fast as possible.

That means the killer tries to kill a survivor as fast as possible. This implies 3 hooks = one survivor out.

Same can be said for games where gens just fly because survivors spread out and crank out gens as efficiently as possible.

Both playstyles are very unfun for the other side.

But only one is generally seen as "bad".

    This is what I meant.

Genrush is not seen as toxic or bad by killer?

That is a very controversal opinion.

  • @radiantHero23 said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3590328#Comment_3590328

Some people want to get tunneled.

Also, ruining the survivors fun > ruining the killers fun?

So what you say is that the killer can only have fun by tunneling?

  • I actually just had a conversation with a friend, not even an hour ago.

Me: "Hey how about you join me for some DBD?"

    Him: "Convince me!"

    Me: .....

He is not coming back. 😥

I mean seriously, unless he would be masochistically inclined and would like to get tunneled and slaped at the hook by some angry killer main, play on killer sided maps and would enjoy random teammates that dont do anything the whole game, there is absolutly nothing a survivor player would even enjoy the slightest anymore.

  • @Crowman said:

Tunneling isn't toxic and killing survivors is kind of the role of the killer.

The OP never said that nore said anything like that?

To your offtopic arguement: Yes, killing the survivor is the killers role. Tunneling is a choice. To put it mildly, a very unpleasent choice for everyone else.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

Yeah, its cool that killers can win with Niche builds, i do also have a basement trapper that 80% win, but its really not fun when you have to play in a certain way with "locked perks" to get a win.

Overall i think OP makes a good point.

Lets try to put some of the killers in trappers shoes.

    Imagine if :

    • Nurses teleport had charges, with a carry capacity of 2, spread out on the map, that she needed to pick up before she could teleport.
    • Blights Rush had charges, with a carry capacity of 2, spread out on the map, that he needed to pick up before he could use it.
    • Bubbas chainsaw had gasoline cans, with a carry capacity of 2, spread out on the map, that he needed to pick up before he could use the chainsaw.
    • Dead Slinger rifle had ammo, with a carry capacity of 2, spread out on the map, that he needed to pick up before he could shoot.
    • Weskers charge had charges, with a carry capacity of 2, spread out on the map, that he needed to pick up before he could charge.

We could do this with all the killers, but would then not become extremly limitied on what perks were playable on them if killers should have any chance to get kills?

The Trapper is still a strong killer, not against the best teams but the average team.

The thing is, that i know what you try to say, but that does not work for trapper, because his power is working totally diferent. Alone that he can shut down loops with a trap and that he is able to get a kill on a healthy person by not even chasing this person is very special.

And last but not least, he can snowball more then most other killers. Person on hook, the rescue steps into trap, the chased survivor also runs into a trap during chase - we all know this scenario and we also know that this can completly turn a game in seconds. You never know with traper until the very end. Sometimes you are very unlucky and get only 2-3 hooks and the game ends then with a 4K because stuff like that happens.

    You get what i mean.

  • I swap around a lot. The recent games i was running:

    • Pain Res
    • Corrupt
    • STBFL
    • Bam

  • Just remove MMR as a whole? The old rank system felt better 2bh.

A good killer takes their advantages. And taking a person out early is the best play a killer can do. Just because you don't like it doesn't make them a "bad killer".

Sure, you can take the advantage, but i see it rather as a sign of weakness. If i have to play in a way everybody despises, i would not deserve better when i play surivivor.

I dont tunnel, and therefore i never relied on those tactics and focused on chase and strategy. Still i can get 4Ks left and right. And i am really not the best killer by any means. So yes, if a killer has to tunnel, i automatically assume he is not that great, sorry. Very few showed me otherwise, only those who spread hooks impressed me with their skill.

  • @SimpleTora said:

We've established that gen defense killers are massively hated due to recent killers like knight/SM so i'm curious what people actually enjoy.

I've gotten hate for instadown killers, stealth killers, chase killers like nothing seems to be good for anybody so i'm curious what type of killer you actually want to play vs.

I'm currently over the BP cap and can't gain anymore so I don't need to win/lose and am just playing for memes and I will do whatever is considered "fun" for survivors here

I dont get the reason you ask survivor mains, since all sorts of players have preferences.

Here is mine (as a 30% solo, 30 SWF and 40% killer player)

    my-image(30).png

  • @Tsulan said:

You should probably ask that killer.

Btw. were your other teammates afk?

How is it even possible to have a match where no gens get done in 3 chases/hook stages?

1000 hour blights against 20 hour survivors looks like the mmr went bonkers or he was in a SWF with someone with much higher hours.

You are not playing solo, right?

These days nobody cares about gens anymore. Or escapes in general. I am usually measure time and i promise you, in most of these games there is at least 1 person that does the first minute of the game absolutly nothing. Or in a later stage minutes of not doing anything, for whatever reason.

In my last match i played, Mikaela started her first action at 1:09 doing a chest and eventually started her first generator at 1:41! This player had 4500 hours.

In so many game, there is this one weeklings that generates a 3v1 scenario for the majority of the game.

    @Brimp said:

Because tunneling is all that killers really have left. Sure there's pop and pain res but by the time you get it 3 gens SHOULD be completed assuming the survivors are the least bit competent.

Imagine in 2026 when tunneling is fixed, the killer mains come to the discovery, that being good with a killer actually can win games. Cant wait for that historic moment.

  • I suppose it is fine for new players aswell to learn the maps, but you were refering to veterans who know the maps.

  • I dont think it is that much of a big deal, since there are free characters (including their perks) to play.

  • @radiantHero23 said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3588113#Comment_3588113

Tell that to the 12.000h players that still use WoO every match because they dont have to use their memory to play effectively and efficiently.

WoO is such a weird perk. It's supposed to help newer players, but is used by people that "should" not need it anymore due to its effect of automatizing survivor gameplay.

The question isn't any more about how to learn maps without WoO but more about why learn maps at all if this perk exists.

It has nothing to do with using memory. The main reason people run this perk is to know where the deadzones are / which palet already got used.

  • Alien, Pyramid Head and Artist.

Or generallly speaking killer who can force you with no effort into a loose loose situation.

  • Am i the only one who has not lost his mind over Chucky?

A promise: The hype will die within 3 weeks or so and people will realise how busted he is at the current state. And then the complains will start and they will nerf him after lets say 6 months.

A killer who is stealth, super small, has 3rd person AND a 10km long attack that can curve with almost 0 downtime and after miss no stun to the killer? Hell yea, i am so hyped for that crap. Guess i will take a break for a couple of weeks until he is not that popular anymore.

    EDTI: ...OR already nerfed

  • Hug Tec is fine for me, from a survivors perspective. The only thing Blight really needs are some of his addon changed. The obvious ones and extra speed. Other then that, he is fine AND fun to play against.

    Please dont Hillybilly him :(

  • @sluc16 said:

Is amazing that the face of the game is the weaker killer of all, the amount of disadvantages this killer has is mind blowing.

-Is the only one that has to run around the map to "collect" his power, and he cannot even collect them all at the same time.

-The add-on to actually have all the traps does not let you pick hem up again which is ridiculous.

-He is the ONLY killer that is actually affected by his own power (no add on should be needed for this).

-The amount of times survivors free themselves from a trap at the first attempt is insane, every time you actually catch someone you have to pray you make it there in time before they free themselves. And even with the Honing Stone add on, another survivor just goes and frees them.

    - He has no chase power at all

-Other that hag and SM, is the only killer who´s power can just be disabled by survivors, but neither hag or SM have to run around the map to get the traps

-He is useless in indoor map since there is no way to hide the traps, they are just there completely visible and easy to spot.

I wish this killer had the attention he deserves and was remade in a way that made him more fun and balanced. Is sad he is only kind of fun to use in very specific maps with very specific build.

Right now I am trying a Trapper winstreak, copycating Otz with his impressiv 50. I just finished game number 12. Long way to go. 😁

Trapper is and was always a mixed bag for me. He can be super frustrating when all your traps get disarmed one by one or when your 500IQ trap wont work since the survivor is not smart enough to tun into that trap ;-)

On the other hand, for example during my last game i had one of those amazing rare moments with 3 people at the same time in a trap (NO Honing stone) und you feel like a complete genius. Or when you force the playfield to the side where you have preped and all goes as planned.

Trapper will not be able to comepte with a strong tournament team, probably even strugles against a very strong pub team, but that is completly fine. He is what he is, and he is good in what he is doing.

I like him as he is right now, all i am asking are some minor map changes.

They are not 10 seconds increased though since there are many items, addons/perks that can make gens take 40 seconds by one single survivor. But I'm surprised you haven't figured that one out yet. There is no perk for killers that cuts the bt time besides breaking the bt which we all know gives them even more speed regardless.

Sorry i fed you, wont happen again.

  • I toyed around with Arinads build and i like it. No slowdown, but extremly strong in chase. Otzdarva showcased his build not long ago.

It was addressed, 10 second bt with 10 percent haste. If you can't make that work, it's not anyone's problem. The other way to address this is to buff the low mobility killers tremendously, then you'll just complain that you get downed too fast. The point is using your brain, especially in DBD, don't go in expecting the other side not to bend the scales in their favor. Utilize what you have and never trust. This goes for both sides, gen speed or kill speed.

Very strong and totally not condisending argument, not gonna lie. I will imply your logic to any killer complain. "Gens are no problem, the gen time got increased by 10 seconds. So it has to be fine. Use your brain."

I am accused of cheating almost every game day. Most often in wallhack, because I apparently dare to use a monitor and headphones while playing this game.

I saw a crow take off 20 meters away from me, went to check and found a surv – Nice wallhack, dude

I went to check stone/locker near the hot gen and find a surv – * DC * Good luck playing with your cheats – lmao, what?

I saw a surv at the other end of the map while I was standing on a hill and came to him – reported, cheater – ok

Literally use legal wallhack the whole game aka Nowhere to Hide – nice wallhack – yeah, i know, thanks

I just happen to find a surv while patrolling the map – oh, so you found me without info perks, report – yes, there is literally 0 chance that we would ever meet on this map, the size of an entire city

Heard the breathing of surv who just stopped next to me – * dude was streaming * nice stream snipe – sorry for using my headphones buddy, you can justify your bad plays as you want

Found a surv who recently went 5 meters from his scratch marks – reported – for not pretending that you became invisible after you stopped?

Some people are just sore losers and you can't do anything about it.

Been called cheater the last few weeks multible times aswell. As killer and even more often as survivor.

The simple reason for more accusations is the rising amount of cheater in this game. Many get paranoid because of that. Since you are not cheating, take it at as a complitment. Nothing more to say about it.

At tracking survivors? No, not at all. Its definitly the strongest right now.

  • @Nun_So_Vile said:

🤣😂 Which one are you saying is p2w, i'm curious, STBFL? OoO? DS? This is literally one of, if not the strongest info/blind perk released. Even at their strongest, none of those perks got the insane value like UW. I can scratch my butt all game and have it carry me on any killer I play.

I am not saying UW is not pay it win, it definitly is, BUT the original DS was also overpowered. You always had it no matter if you were hooked or not. Not to mention a 5 second stun. And OoO was also overpowered. Survivor hat the control it if they want to get seen or not. At loops it was like wallhacking.

It is always the tunneled player who complains, the one who escapes without interaction with the killer during the whole game seems to be completely satisfied with the situation. In fact, most of the playerbase are willing to sacrifice their team for an easy escape.

Tunneling one out of the game is terrible for 4 out of 5 players. And no, the majority probably do not even care about escapes but rather good games.

  • A lot of condescending replies here, not gonna lie.

There is no "at this number of finished generator tunneling is okay".

Tunneling is a big problem overall that needs to be adressed ASAP. Period.

God no. Mediocre is subpar. UW is what an info Perk should look like, same goes for Lethal Pursuer. Both Perks that do what they’re supposed to do: grant info. Not jump through a myriad of hoops showing you a Survivor you probably don’t even care about chasing like BBQ

Just no. There is no way we will agree in this case, apparently also not on what "mediocre" and what "sub par" means.

Its okay tho. Like i said, i dont hate UW because i like beeing chased but objectily speaking it is overpowered as hell. And i dont think a discussion about UW is interesting, since it will get nerfed sooner or later. Defending it is just pointless and disqualify any further discussions about ballancing. Same with people who think old Noed, Mettle of Men or MFT was completly fine.

  • @Huxy said:

Your post does the opposite of what you want it to: it just showcases how, at best, mediocre BBQ as an info Perk is.

Of course UW looks busted compared to BBQ, because BBQ usually sucks as an info Perk unless you're playing a Killer with really good mobility, Killers on which UW is also really good on.

The only Killers that get more BBQ value over UW are Artist and Huntress (even then, I'd argue Darkness Revealed is as strong)

I totally disagree with what you say but if you really think BBQ is mediocre, thats completly fine then. Since mediocre is what "ballanced" should be.

  • @SimpleTora said:

The only argument I've ever heard for this perk is "You're stupid if you don't know why" or "Because everyones running it" not a single soul has given me an actual explanation as to what makes it too strong.

Completely ignoring the blindness it applies since it's such a useless affliction in most cases (you could remove it and not a single killer would care) all it does is allow you to track people and in most cases you'll either go for the first person who screams or the last one (if you plan to get value on everyone) which is something other perks do.

My personal take on why the perk is so popular is because it's a tracking perk that isn't gated by stupid restrictions/limitations. Most perks that show auras have limitations such as only working near lockers or only on far away targets etc. UW is a perk you choose when you activate and what area it works in making it reliable which is something a lot of tracking perks are missing and need desperately.

Just compare it with a strong but fair tracking perk like BBQ.

BBQ requires downing and hooking a survivor that it even works. With UW you need to "find" one of the 20+ lockers, which is no effort at all.

With BBQ the killer can track a survivor outside of 40m for a very short period of time. With UW the killer can track all the time wherever he walks.

With BBQ, when the killer tries to reach them, they might have already changed their position. With UW, you find them when you are closer to them.

BBQ has no side effect. UW inflicts the blindness status.

I dont hate UW, since it plays in my playstyle. I want to be chased because thats the most fun of this game for me. But there are many (i bet more then half of the playerbase) who play the game in a more sneaky way. This perk completly ruins that experience, and there is basically nothing you can do as a survivor.

    • If playing against The Nightmare Adrenaline will wake you from the Dream World upon activation.

Devs decided long time ago that perks should not directly counter killers, and adrenaline for some reason is forgotten, please just remove it and that's all

Actually, it makes sense that "Adrenaline" wakes you up.

But i agree, for the sake of ballance, it should not.

    Killer: The Beast

    Survivor: Casey

  • Tunneling should be adressed.

With that i mean off the hook obvs.

Saying “gg” on the winning side, especially after a landslide victory, can come across as condescending. Cause to them, it really wasn’t a “good” game.

Best to wait for the losing side to say “gg” first.

In my opinion, GG is not condescending at all. Good games can also be supreme victories if the game was fair and held in a friendly way. I had horrible games where the killer tunneled and camped and we won those games with ease. No gg at all. And there were those games we got demolished by a very powerful, but fair playing killer. Absolutly gg 😀

On the other hand, a "gg wp" after a 3 minutes game with no gen done / no hook stage is a different story.

Stacking haste is an issue in general. Hope on its own is fine, having it combined with other stuff is not fine.

I argue that even hope alone is on the edge to overpowered (and certaintly not fun going against)

  • Wraith OP?

    You cant be serious.

  • Hyperfocus and Made for this. At least i tried them out for a bit. MFT is to strong and Hyperfocus i cant get 6 of those skillchecks frequently so i droped them again.

Dramaturgy, Plot Twist, Fogwise, Off The Record, Reassurance and Hyperfocus are all Perks I’ve toyed with.

Will probably play around with the changed MFT too

Off the record is older then 2 years.

  • I switch to play more killer now. Compared to solo survivor, playing even the most basic M1 killer is Kindergarden.
