The devs would rather add half-baked ideas than actually address core issues. Obviously getting camped and tunneled isn’t fun, but killers have to do it if they want to win. The whole memey 12 hook thing is only doable if the survivors are inept. The game needs to be redesigned.

In my opinion, current deathslinger is a terrible killer for all reasons you listed. What you described in your paragraph is precisely my thoughts on dbd on the global problem with most killers at high-level.
those two problems can summarized in two categories
1) Comeback factor/Chase efficacy: Survivor Gen pressure.
2) Pre-running
I do not want elaborate much more then what you talk about but the speed that survivor do generator at when killer is successful at the chase is oppressive at high-level for killer. It is like you barely notice any game-delay as killer despite all your chases ending as quickly as they could have. there is just simply no game-delay in killer base-kit and being forced to use game-delay perks, most of which are weaker is stifling killer perk variety and creativity. The other problem as you talk about is pre-running where your chases are not long but strength of pre-shift w away from generators before the chase means that your chases are in fact long because it took too long to get into the chase. If the entire is yoyoing generators effectively, there is no good chases that is time efficient for the killer to take. As you describe, you lose passively for survivors existing. Deathslinger being 4.4 makes him very vulnerable to such a strategy. I agree with your opinion that these two aspects for high-level killer are not fun.
knowing what the problem is half the challenge but coming up with a good solution is more difficult.
The solution is to remove clutter and broken tiles. Deathslinger is also one of many examples of a botched killer change. All of the weaknesses we talked about existed back when DS could insta scope and had a small terror radius. He was never a great killer. The nerfs made it even harder for DS to engage in a meaningful chase since he can’t sneak up anymore and the increased aiming time puts control of the chase in the survivors’ hands. He is a perfect example of the game being balanced around bad survivor play.

they do. momo's blight streak that is 1500 wins is living proof that a mediocre player will get stomped 10/10 times by experienced player. The result is 100% win-rate.
He has that streak because most pubs are bad players. The fact is, experienced players shouldn’t have to put up with awful high level gameplay because people refuse to learn. Like if you are that lazy, go play a mobile game.
you have to change wording from most pub to all pub are bad players because every single pub lost. Explain what is "awful high level play" for experienced players.
Playing any killer except blight/nurse against competent survivors is hell and not fun. I’ll use one of my mains, deathslinger as an example.
The match loads in and, depending on spawns, I’m probably losing a gen slightly before or after my first down. That alone can hurt my chances if it was part of a 3 gen (which encourages boring killer gameplay) and puts pressure on killer within the first two minutes. Then, when I’m approaching a gen/survivors, they can use DS’s terror radius to pre run and completely deny any chance of a shot. If it’s an indoor map or a map with high walls or clutter (most maps btw) then I’m lucky to have the opportunity to make 5-6 shots in a match.
This illustrates the problem with most killers. It’s not like the survivors dodged shots or juked the killer: they straight up denied any chance of skill expression just by existing. High level killers have almost no agency and depend on survivors playing poorly.

You don’t need a lot to make the comparison—just one. I can think of four off the top of my head.
TCM’s balance is significantly better than DBD, even with the P2W victim that was released. It’s probably skewed towards victim at the absolute highest level of play, but if you know what you are doing you can dominate. DBD is balanced to allow lousy players to beat good players.
-
@Ayodam said:

And of those three which is asymmetrical? Like DBD.
Frankly, there aren’t enough asym games to compare. The same principles apply regardless if a game is asym or not. Things that affect high level play don’t matter that much for low levels, since most players lack basic game knowledge.
Decisive strike is a perfect example: it doesn’t matter how long the stun is because the average person isn’t good enough to really exploit it and run the killer. The same goes for killer: the average killer lost games even with the strong gen regression durimg 6.1. because they lack macro and tile knowledge of the game. Balancing for a casual base doesn’t solve problems for most people, and only makes high level play miserable.

So its ok for these survivors to basically completely win every single game "because its rare"?
Yup that’s exactly what they’re saying. These same people then turn around and say that SWF is fine because good players are rare. The survivor bias in this community is undeniable.

Nurse is fine. The root of the issue is that survivors here won’t be happy until they can dictate pallet mindgames against every killer.

If they can balance to make that Blight to have 60% kill rate instead of 100%…

It’s more accurate than balancing around the uppercrest of MMR. Most players are your grandmother, not Otzdarva.
And that’s an issue with the playerbase, not game balance. A mediocre player should get stomped by an experienced player 10/10 times.

I’m not interested in how joeblow who plays once a week plays the game. If we aren’t assuming high level play, then this is a pointless conversation. My grandma could 4k with Trapper at low ranks. It doesn’t show an accurate picture of balance.

Agreed. I felt like, in the AMA, teamwork and overall team-skill got conflated. I can't blame the 100 soloq player that was in my lobby with a higher skilled Killer for 'bad teamwork' because they didn't rush into take aggro for the surv on their 2nd hook. They probably don't know any better.
I feel equally bad when I'm in a team that exceeds my skill and I'm the weak link. I typically can't chases beyond 30-45-ish seconds and for the life of me, I cannot figure out how to deal with Blight in chase. I feel bad at the end of the match knowing full well that I'm probably the reason we lost. It's not from lack of trying or not trying to support my team, there are areas of the game I'm not proficient enough in to match the rest.
It’s a team based game. Shouldn’t you all lose if the team fails?

If a Survivor is consistently looping you "endlessly" that is entirely on you.
Also, blatant whataboutism.
It really isn’t. It doesn’t take a genius to waste time at a strong loop since most killers effectively have no counterplay. Even if you drop that chase and surprise hit another survivor, they’ll use the speed boost to get to another strong loop and start it all over again. Killers don’t have enough agency in a match. It comes down to survivors making mistakes and RNG.

No, it's because he genuinely sucks to play against. He has zero skill expression as Survivor.
He's got old Legion issues
Skill expression as survivor comes down to 90% map/tile knowledge 10% mindgames.

That was my answer.
No, it should not be possible unless they are playing an extremely powerful character. Eventually, you should get beaten or draw.
In other games, the best players consistently win. If a character wins a tournament, it doesn’t mean that character needs a nerf. The cream will always rise to the top. This community’s problem is that there too many people who expect to win against those who are better than them.

I didnt know the devs reverted the 90sec gens...
Or the reduced survivor speed on-hit...
Or the 2 stack STBFL basekit...
Or the nerfs to DH, DS, IW and Spine Chill...
Even if the Op Eruption was nerfed, 6.1.0 is still one of the most killer sided patch in dbd history
The gen speed made no difference, and neither did the wipe/speed boost nerf. In the vast majority of situations, the survivor will still make it to safety.

Except we have data that shows that this statement isn't true. In the most oppressive gen slow down meta ever, killers tunneled even more.
The root problem is that both sides have slowly optimized their play styles to achieve the goal as efficiently as possible. No matter how fast the generators progress, tunneling 1 person out is THE most effective way for a killer to secure a victory. As long as that remains true killers will continue to do it and they should, unapologetically. It is not up to the killers to play fair. It is required by BHVR to ensure that the game is fun when killers play efficiently. Tunnelling, camping, and slugging must be made less fun while still giving killers tools to enjoy and succeed in the match.
The same goes for survivors, working on generators is the way they achieve "victory". So gradually, the player base has learned to strip away all the inefficiencies. Survivors split up more often. A Side note, it's hilarious, they nerfed prove thyself. This perk actually encouraged survivors to behave less efficiently which actually helped killers. Now it's actually obvious that it's terrible so survivors just split up.
If looping a killer well was possible for the vast majority and lead to more survivor escapes, more survivors would participate in that activity. Since it doesn't lead to escapes very often for most people, they do it less and less. The more oppressive killers get in chase, the more stealth and gen efficiency will be the only strategies employed by the opponents they face.
Not sure what game you’re playing but steath is irrelevant. Good survivors are aggressive and will try to get you to chase in very unfavorable areas for killer. If there are too many spawns like that on the map, the game is over before it begins.

Yes Eruption was strong ?understandable but all was needed for it to be toned down instead of completely reworked. The perk does nothing now?
Yup eruption is now an awful perk, as are the other perks that were buffed in 6.1. Survivors like to point at that patch as proof the devs aren’t survivor-sided, but conveniently ignore that all of those buffs were taken back. We were left with a 2% kick speed increase.

I don't care how bad you think survivors are, you are not bringing a 1600+ win streak if the game was 'massively survivor sided'. Logically, if the game actually WAS massively survivor sided, that win streak would've been clipped much, MUCH earlier.
It also goes without saying that the people achieving these streaks are the top 1% of the playerbase.
But that would mean they're also getting pitted against the top 1% of the playerbase, so why aren't their streaks breaking?
That’s not how the MMR works. The bar for being at high MMR is low. The top percent of players are playing with people far below that.

Acording to your argument, good surivors beat good killers. Are you trying to say that in hundreds/thousend games, they never came across good survivors? That is extremly unlikely, especially when you believe people here claiming that every second game is against an unbeatable force.
The chances of coming across 4 good survivors outside of SWF is rare (although it happens.)Individual survivors die no matter how good they are if their teammates aren’t carrying their weight. Even then, if the killer happens to start chasing the one good survivor first, that can cost the killer the entire game. Lastly, yes, there is a solid chance you can go a play session without seeing competent survivors because, again, most people are bad at the game.

Aha. So killer players are more skilled, gotcha.
Nope, most killers are also bad. The reason kill rates are near 60 is that when a bad killer faces bad survivors, the killer usually wins. When a good killer goes against good survivors, the game is massively survivor sided. It also goes without saying that the people achieving these streaks are the top 1% of the playerbase.

It really wasn’t. I’ve been playing since 2018 and using a perk slot for it was a fair trade off.
-
“Rework” is code for major nerfs. Best case scenario is they make a .02 % change to power/addons. Meanwhile survivors are given basekit BT and will be given protection against 3 genning. Does anyone see a double standard?

Afraid? No. Going to be highly annoyed if its on? Yep. If we wanted to listen to people yell at us for stupid reasons we'd go back to our jobs so we'd at least get paid for it. And if we mute them, it will cause the "children" (we have a better term but it would be censored) to lash out from being ignored and cause a whole other case of head aches. EVENTUALLY it may peter out, but until that time (and we're betting a good while), its going to be a lot of grief for us thats pretty much unnecessary. If Texas chainsaw is a model to go by, we DEFINATLY do NOT want it.

Our personal bets on how people react aside, its because a negative to playing with friends will disincentivize (love dictionaries) people from playing with friends. Some players only get on TO play with their friends and adding a penalty is more likely to make those ones say "not worth playing" than "ok sure". In general people think negative = bad (and to be fair thats usually smart). That said we do acknowledge in the end it does not matter how it gets there, but it will be a painfully spikey path to reach that end going the stick route with the added possibility of loosing enough players to harm the game.
If you could please define these extreme cases. Is a duo extreme? Trio? A squad of ppl BSing and singing christmas carols (good times)? Is the punishment strictly for 4 man squads, cause we know a trio who can give the killer a run for their money if they wanted to.
I play Texas Chainsaw and it’s fine. You don’t speak for everyone.

Other games also have better/more strict matchmaking than DBD. If you balanced like this then you would need to significantly change the matchmaking. How do you think high MMR killers would feel about actually having to play against the sweatiest premade groups every single match? I already know how they'd react. People already whine about how sweaty the game is.
I don’t mind sweaty games at all, if the game is balanced for that level. TCM does a much better job of this than DBD. I’m ok with sweating if the game feels fair.

What was the last actual survivor quality of life changes? To me it was the new HUD info
Since then it has been only killer sided changes
Don't even mention anti-face camping mechanic because that doesn't help survivors at all
This game is 100% survivor sided if the survivors know the game. There’s a reason killer diversity stinks: no one wants to play a powerless killer like trapper or pig so that survivors can feel good about themselves.

What would you propose to bring killer in line without making soloq impossible to play? Or making the playercount fall? Swf cant be nerfed. Its directly linked to the games playerbase. This is the red line in terms of balancing.
Also, what are skilled players in this game anyways? The "best" players are people that predrop pallets left and right, embrace shift w, scream on discord about how unfair that hit was and greed gens. On killers, its your regular pubstomping Nurse or Blight. Mostly the tunneling ones with map offerings, a ton of slowdown and some overpowered addons just to make things as simple as possible for them. DBD balancing goes further than just nerfing swf or Nurse. Its making tiles fairer. Its making maps fairer. Its making addons, items and killer powers fairer.
But what do you get at the end of the day? Flat lands with every player playing the exact same boring way. The more dbd gets "balanced" the more it loses unique aspects that make us enjoy the game for what it is.
I am all in favor of making maps and tiles fairer. BHVR would rather make meaningless tweaks to killer addons than any substantive changes.
-
All games are balanced around skilled players except dbd. The devs care more about letting people meme and bully killers than they do a balanced game.

We all deal with bs. It's not a one side thing. Survivors deal with bs and Killers do.
Just because something is (relatively) hard to pull off, doesn't rectify this aspect being completely unbalanced.
This goes for swf, Nurse, Blights addons and much more.
Part of my point though is that survivors regularly talk about said mechanics as being “too easy”, ignoring the fact that survivor gameplay comes down to pre running and dropping pallets. I agree with the BS thing to an extent, but I think killers are forced to deal with far worse BS, especially in regards to SWF.

@MikaelaWantsYourBoon is right. Swf can't be nerfed. It's directly linked to the games playerbase. You can't punish people that want to play with their friends.
Therefore we sadly have to deal with this existing.
I personally absolutely would love to see the 4man death squad nerfed, because there is not really anything you can do when playing a weaker killer than Blight or Nurse. These people have the biggest power trip on the expense of almost all other parties in the game.
Well I’ll ask again: why should killers be forced to deal with this BS while survivors demand that a high skill killer gets nerfed? Same thing with Deathslinger. His kill rates were in line with the cast, his quick draw took skill to use, yet he was nerfed into the ground.
-

Nurse is killer, you can rework or nerf her power without hurting other killers. But how you will do for SWFs? Each nerf will affect average and solo survivors too
They need to add communication and teach people how to play the game (looping, connecting tiles.) And even if that’s true, it’s unfair to the killer.
-
@MikaelaWantsYourBoon said:
People are complaining about SWFs but how many teams are that strong? How many times you are going against strong teams like that. Ayrun and his team is probably one of the best teams in DbD and it's really hard to beat them but i don't think most of SWF teams are problematic or not unbeatable. You can win most of games without issues.
And the most important question: Should DbD be balanced around teams like that or not? What is your thoughts?
It doesn’t matter if those type of games are rare: killer should never be in an impossible match. I have around 5,000 hours in dbd, so I run into those groups more than most people. It’s the type of thing that makes me not want to play the game.
There is also a double standard in this community. The playerbase has no problem nerfing Nurse, despite that all stats, regardless of MMR, showing that she is not a problem. She is barely top 5 in terms of killrate at top mmr, which shows that there are very few people dominating with her. Yet, people have no problem demanding her nerfed into the ground while the “rare” SWAT SWF is fine because it’s uncommon. Does anyone see a problem here? This game should be balanced around people who know how to play.

McLean once mentioned the reason why a FOV slider would not be fair in this game because the entire game was built on a limited visible line of sight for the killer, hiding and barely slipping by a killers view is exciting and provides a survivor an opportunity to get away. that's why that shadowborn was a perk, it gave you an advantage that the game was balanced on.
it's sad to see BHVR just completely giving up on the foundations this game was balanced on and giving killers whatever they ask for just because you can't handle them complaining about your game anymore.
how many basekit buffs do killers need? how high does the kill rate need to go before you stop?
at what point does this game stop being a PVP game and turns into just a killer simulator. I think BHVR might need to hire some people who actually play the survivor role, because from the looks of it, after McLean left the team everything went to the dumpster.
You shouldn’t be gifted easy evasions. As it is now, footstep sounds are almost nonexistent and scratch marks are very inconsistent. The devs also purposely made the music obnoxiously loud to help survivors get away. How many crutches do you need?
