  • Howling grounds event.

Playing normally was what earned you the cosmetics pieces and you earned a good amount of bloodpointd.

It just needed some tweaking so event gens could not be camped and event hooks could not be sabo'd.

  • This is the thread all others have been merged into with people's opinions.

  • This is why I dislike breakable walls in general.

They are implemented all wrong. A breakable wall should be a choice but not needed. It should add to the game while still giving both sides a chance if its left alone or broken.

Take this window the killer needs to break it or its a 100% safe window with a long loop. Now when the killer does break it it makes the storehouse less safe overall due to the removal of the pallets.

I just feel its not fun for either side this way.

  • Since it was originally stated that this would happen i feel the word betrayed is not warranted in the post and I think them doing this is fine since again its what was always intended.

Imo it would be worse if they decided not to release them.

  • The rights to Freddy reverted back to the Craven estate last year.

This means its likely that BHVR only have the license for what was already in game as it was another company and they would have to sign a new deal with the Craven estate.

  • Well they said there will be login rewards and also other skins put out via social media which I guess will be a hidden code. Hopefully they won't be on a first come basis like the last ones and everyone can get it once found.

I do dislike making the events part of the rift itself as it feels more grindy and these challenges well we will have to see what they entail but I am skeptical as it feels like more rift promotion than an event.

Instead of these special offerings for gens I would quite frankly prefer a dbp event so people can play other offerings instead since they are solely about bloodpoints the reward isn't that great since they normally cost 3k to buy you can earn max 17k extra if all 5 gens or hooks are done and everyone of course plays the offering.

Events are a bit underwhelming after the inclusion of the rift. I used to take the time to play as much as possible and really enjoyed them but now well I just play as I do now and don't put in the same effort as they feel less rewarding and more grindy.

My problem with this is that there is a lot of rng in dbd from gen/tile spawns and map selections to how many pallets there are and what killer/perks that are in the game that I honestly don't think it will be possible to get an accurate rating of a players skill.

It isn't infallible by any means but it has to be better than what we currently have.

Even with rng spawns good players know what kind of tile it is and play around it prolonging the chase with or without a pallet there.

Some players will waste more time at an L and T wall than others with 3 pallets close by.

    SWF will screw this up.

I can play fairly well in a good team because i get a boost in confidence getting hooked and see everyone is doing gens and/or play strategically and not running around and open chests in front of the killer or take a "protection hit" when the killer only has to walk 5m to the next hook. Brainnzzzzz

In theory then swf will have a higher mmr.

How to miss the point of a discussion 101.

OP pointed out that even in a rank-system, matchmaking is completely irrational. A MMR wont change anything. Just replace the rank 14 of OP with a MMR of 1000, and the rank of the survivors with a MMR of 2000. This is how its gonna be with the new matchmaking.

And your second point, yes you can take all these metrics and use them to determine a MMR. But the developers cant do it. Thats because they cant even count 1+1. For example in their latest serverside hit validation test, people had their hits denied AND went through the weapon cooldown.

The developers have the tendency to ######### up even the *most basic* tasks, no matter how simple they are. And you expect these people to get a functioning MMR system going?

The point was they don't trust the devs to do it.

My point was valid as we don't know what metrics they will use and rank will mean nothing. We also know right now the matchmaking has been widened which should hopefully change.

An mmr of 1k then should not meet an mmr of 2k. This means a rank 14 as it is now won't meet the rank 1's if it works.

Swf should also use the highest rated mmr imo.

  • This is exactly why a new matchmaking is needed.

It's not hard to get and get some sort of system by looking at certain stats and I would think they are looking at multiple things within the game itself.

Hours played compared to whom you verse, length of time to go down or down someone, how many hooks/kills per game versus how many escape, skill checks hit or missed, time spent near the hook while no one is around, going after the same survivor unhooked, length of the game itself etc etc.

Each little thing within the game can and is a metric to show then how people play and how well someone plays versus another.

  • It wouldn't work without changing most speed up, second chance, aura, notification or slowdown perks.

Then we would essentially just be in the same situation as it is now as the 5th perk would be one which gives a similar result to what was taken away.

  • @RaSavage42 said:

    @twistedmonkey

The dev's themselves called their own stats useless

This thread only seeks to improve and show what we want to see

Why does it matter the platform... to split the players into their platform for what? To say that PC players do this and PS players do this etc...?

Since the dev's have all the stats then show us every so often... like R6 Siege does every season

If they do show stats then dont also say that those stats are not good and dont read into them

They Said the stats we saw on kill rates included dc but the ones they use themselves are far from useless as they can see them without that.

I am not separating the platforms I am saying we do not know how many play on others so to get a metric is not possible. Its like asking 300 peolple in the street how many prefer burgers over hot dogs and stating it as fact for a country from the results of one city.

As I said they did show stats but then people do not believe them. Again take this post as an example of what happens when they release a stat and state lithe is used more than DS which is an easy one to get. They are basically damned if they do and damned if they dont as it does not fit into what some want to believe.

  • @RaSavage42 said:

    @EvilJoshy

There's the general stats: Perks, killers, maps, kills, gens completed

Then there's specific ones like: the times of the first chase, first hit/down/hook, first gen completed, heals, unhooks

(trying to get all players involved so some stats can be done by survivor players)

    @twistedmonkey

With cross play enabled platform shouldn't matter (only to the player on the platform) we are all players of this game

The more players get their own stats the devs (might) make adjustments to their stat tracking or release more (like R6 Siege)

Of course it matters as we can only see peak numbers on steam, the other platforms we do not know how many players there are so we cannot determine anything from a number from personal stats apart from what that player alone sees.

The devs do track almost everything from characters used, kills, escapes, usages of perks, time in game, gen being done before kills, items usage, length of a chase, maps and loops times etc etc.

They probably dont show them anymore as each and every time they are ridiculed, this very thread is an indication of this. If the playerbase wont beleive them as it doesnt fit what they see then why bother?

  • @RaSavage42 said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1674822#Comment_1674822

But if multiple players did get their own stats then the numbers would be a hell of a lot bigger and cover more of the playerbase

With the way the game is now the stats I want to see are relevant enough to be gathered and shown

It would take a very large potion of players over multiple regions and platfroms along with weeding out seeing the same survivors in game which on pc is harder since you can change names all the time and then accross multiple ranks.

Even with 10 players doing it this would only potentially show 0.4% of a playerbase of 1m. 100 would be 4% and so on. All these figures really show is what those players saw at what time they played.

Since we don't know what size the player base across all platforms actually is if 100 players did it it could be the 4% or 8% it may be 2% so any stats shown would not show anything that is really relevant apart from each ones personal experience.

  • Stats are generally taking over all ranks and all regions and platforms.

They do however also take rank into account at times for say rank 20-15 and ranks 5-1 to see if there is any difference.

Regions and platforms well you're one may see higher usage of some perks than others. This is why personal stats don't really show anything.

Say in one day over 100 matches you play in that time 1 million different players joined the game. Now only 30k are on your platform and region. Play 100 games you see as killer only 400 survivors out of those numbers. This means you will not see the other 999,599 players or only see 0.04%. Its a minute figure to go by.

  • It's impossible to restrict apps which don't interact with the game itself in a lot of countries due to privacy rules.

There are countries with these privacy rules which means apps can't look at anything else that are not interacting with the game itself.

EU is one example which has made many companies change things due to privacy.

You are also effectively saying people can't run a program and chat to others who may not even be in the game itself or playing another game.

Also how would one disable steam voice chat? That would take input from valve themselves which I don't think they would do for only one game.

Then like others have stated people will use phones or another device to chat.

In game voice would be a huge mistake. Just look at the issue other games have faced by implementing this. Complaints about abusive people and just general noise spam. It doesn't add immersion but actually removes it.

  • You're CPU again is older but its still powerful enough for gaming today.

I would advise to upgrade your GPU when you have the money. It won't stop frame rate drops on some maps especially newer ones as even the best machines are having some issues but instead of them being say 30 to 10fps it could be 70 to 45fps.

Another 8gb of ram would also help.

PC, and playing full screen or in a window, low resolution. Asus radeon 7770. No problem in old maps, but unplayable in new maps or reworked.

The Card could be the problem its one of the lower models with a 2.2k 3d score and only 1gb or the HD version 2gb memory on board. Its also a 7 or 8 year old card.

Unfortunately with graphical updates some hardware needs to be updated.

It would be handy to also know your current CPU and how much ram you have to get a better idea of your overall machine.

  • There are always so many players with opinions on how DBD should be but they forget one fundamental thing. They are the vocal minority.

Streamers yes can have an opinion but how many of them have actually made a game or ran a successful multimillion dollar business?

Business is and always will be about catering to the majority and when you have a successful product do you then change it to something else? The player numbers and revenue is what is important. The game itself has grown over the years so that alone says they are doing what the players like.

Its not that the DBD devs don't listen its just that not all ideas are good. They have infact implemented changes asked for by the community over the years.

I would take what each person says with a pinch of salt especially when its a streamer as these people make videos for views and about what their viewer base wants to hear.

  • Using what the game offers is never toxic.

Play the game how you wish.

Real toxicity comes from those comments players make when they lose or dislike something you use.

Yeah but what if those games had come out instantly with a horrible reputation?

Or what if the game came put and players just didn't think it was good enough to keep playing.

You seem to be focusing to much on a what the community can Influence and not the actual game is itself. Take this community by your means of thinking DBD would have died long ago as most posts are negative.

  • @kate_best_girl said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1667793#Comment_1667793

Fortnite was made by a huge company and already had a big fanbase prior due to the Save The World mode. Comparing that to a small game by a small company that needs to build its reputation is a bad comparison esp when the only 'professional' reviews it got was by DBD youtubers who compare any 4v1 game to DBD even though a comparison isn't there to make.

Being a big company doesn't matter. Many games released by these larger companies still fail.

Being a large company doesn't promise a good game.

Look at don't starve for example or Terraria, FTL etc. All indie companies.

  • If a game is good is doesn't matter about any community stating otherwise.

    Look at Fortnite for example.

Games die due to the playerbase preferring another or the game just not being that good nothing else.

  • The rift is a problem in itself.

First you get all the auric cells back and get it for free if completed. This means it has the potential to make no many so of course it has to have some sort of grind aspect to it so only die hard can complete it without paying anything else.

The whole idea of any of these systems is to make money. Without it bringing in revenue it's not worth paying staff to make it.

So how do they fix this?

There are only two options then. Keep it the way it is or they no longer reward all the auric cells for completion and make it easier for all so you have to spend something for each rift.

The best way to look at the rift imo is to see if what you can achieve is worth the money you are spending. Afterall even making it to say LVL 40 gives more skins that the money paid.

@Orion that's cool but, on xbox yet again I can guaranteed find a lobby quicker than dbd any day of the week, any time of the day. It's not a dead game by any means.

While the game is not dead as even wirh 300 players it just has a very low player base.

Finding lobbies in the game is obviously quicker than DBD as you don't have a choice of what role you play just a preference.

DBD also splits up the player base with server locations so some find lobbies faster than others while F13th has everyone in one.

  • Personally i don't mind the combo but I do wish they would remove the aura from undying as I do no think that is needed.

At least this was it may help with the survivor meta and some may start to run totem builds but right now its better to sit on a gen until someone is being picked up before doing a totem as to not give away your position.

  • Trapper.

He needs some love being the poster boy of the game.

I dunno, I'm still here thinking about @SpaceCoconut 's example and how it perfectly encompasses that feeling. To play off that example, you're basically indifferent to ice cream, so you're not invested in it.

But for those of us who DO want the ice cream (the Rift Tiers), we do feel a sense of disappointment- that despite running as fast and as hard as we could, we just didn't make it. It feels like wasted effort.

It still all comes down to a want not a need.

That analogy is completely different as everyone in this game has the same opportunity. Its a choice to purchase something knowing you may not be able to complete it and put pressure onto yourself.

I do not own all the cosmetics in the game by a long shot, however I DO own all the ones that have been given out as challenges such as David's Donkey Jacket, Huntress' Hound Mask, etc. Again, the limited time event is not really a problem, it's the duration of the Rift, frequency of the Rift and the intensity (grind) all combined that is making the Rift extremely unfun for me.

Another thing that I tried to point out in my original post is, participation in the Rift is NOT optional. Regardless about your attitude or willingness to play the Rift, you WILL participate in it, and you WILL get notifications about it ad nauseum. This is intentional to trigger an emotional response to continue participating and therefore investing in the Rift. The time you spend playing = time investing. Constantly moving the goalposts (the end of the Rift) by manipulating the number of fragments you earn is a clear sign that too many people were completing the Rift, and therefore they made it harder. To be fair, it isn't a bad thing that BHVR is trying to get you to play their game, so at some level we are all manipulated into playing DBD. The issue, as I see it, is that it becomes a chore to participate in, and that the Rifts are too long/frequent/intense.

Lastly, purchasing Rift tiers is essentially paying to win. At that point, why even bother playing at all? Could I afford paying for the whole Rift, sure. Is that a good use of my money? I'd argue, no, it rewards BHVR for what is a manipulative and borderline predatory game mechanic.

As An adult I choose not to participate in the rift in any meaningful way. How do I do this you ask?

Firstly I don't care about meaningless cosmetics so I never purchase it.

Second I only do challenges but I don't go out of my way to do them and I only do them for extra blood points.

I don't care if I get rift tiers I care for blood points only.

You see you do have a choice to not let it get to you. Personally I feel those that feel they NEED to finish it want to blame a system rather than look into themselves about why they themselves feel this way.

I feel people are too quick to push the blame onto others for a decision only they alone can make. Its a blame shifting mentality for one's own issues.

"Fanboy" (well girl i guess) comment lol... and clearly lack of objectivity here.

There haven't been any decent competition, all the games you have listed are crap. It's like compairing a Boeing 737 and a light aircraft and saying that those ones have not succeed to embark 150 passengers...

Also, Evolve was a far better asymetrical game and got backslashed hardly by the video game press and then by gamers only for its lack of content at release while there was way more maps and better teamplay mechanics than in DbD. So some average games works while some great games die.

Concerning Dbd, many things have been done right (new killer licence, new maps, graphical update, server side hit validation on the way for exemple) and many other things have been done completely wrong.

    • The game is totally unbalanced. Against SWF, killers have a really hard time, against soloQ team, killers have ez wins.
    • Rank system is crap, too easy to rank up, everyday i see red rank survs/killers that are totally noobs and have nothing to do in high level of play. We are still waiting for a MMR system --> 4 years =)
    • There are way too many perks, most of them are useless, many should be removed.
    • Builds variety SHOULD be important in a team. There should be 2 pools of perks : one that all 4 survivors can equip in the team (Iron Will, Urban Evasion, Sprint Burst etc...) and another one where only 1 or 2 survivors max per quatuor can equip (DS, DH, unbreakable, We will make it, empathy, self care, unbreakable etc...).

Then you could hardly buff some of them : perks that favors healing should give really fast healing (empathy should be 200% healing speed, we will make it should be instant heal when you unhook etc...), perks that favors survivability should work better and be reworked, especially DS and DH etc... It will force survivors to have different builds, bring playstyle variety in every game as all 4 survivors won't be able to play the same way.

And even with big buffs, those perks wouldn't be as toxic as today beacause only 1 or 2 survivors would have them equiped. Teamplay possibilities would be awesome...

It would also nerf the communication in SWF because just saying "killer's on me" would be enough anymore, healers will have to stop doing gens to heal/unhook, healers would have to be immersed to stay alive while high survivability survivors would have to taunt the killer etc... Killer will also have more strategic choices.

    • Optimization is terrible. Game doesn't run well and for such a big playerbase game, optimization should be the priority number 1.
    • Some killers need to be nerfed : nurse learning curve is too high, she has to be easier to master but then she needs a nerf as when mastered, she is way too strong. Spirit is ok as she is but Stridor Spirit is a way too OP combo, so i guess Stridor should be removed.
    • Server side hit validation is a good thing but devs are too slow to release it.
    • Some killers rework are out of balance, PH in PTB is crazy strong for exemple...

See, there are many ways to improve the game and many problems have to be fixed. It is impossible that devs are happy with the current state of the game as we are not. I'm curious to see the satisfaction survey results...

Next chapter can be delayed for 2 months and devs should work on a "health operation" to clean everything and start on a better (if not greater) basis.

Oh and to know my DbD history : playing it since 2017. High skilled, red rank survivor with most of my games being soloQ. Finishing with the most points in most of my games. Favoring the team, able to hold a killer for a long time, sometimes failing.

As a killer, 3k to 4king almost everytime when i'm not against SWF. Being gen rushed in 4 minutes against SWF, getting 1k to 2k and those games are really frustrating cause totally not fun, nothing happens unless gens popping every 10 seconds.

There is one fundamental flaw in your post.

DBD can be a team game but it can also be a solo game. The game has always been about helping others or not. Its a choice and one which shouldn't be forced upon players.

Who knows maybe that is why the game is the most popular assymetrical one as of now and those who made games which push more team aspects never lasted. Just a thought.

No it wasnt competition due to the lawsuit. If there wasnt a lawsuit, I think F13 and DBD would be in serious competition.

F13th lost the playerbase long before the lawsuit even happened. The numbers dropped quickly from release and stabilized between 200-300. The numbers only picked up with big patches and free weekends/sales but quickly fell again.

All the lawsuit did was give the developers an out to announce they were stopping adding content. Why else would they release the statement saying even if it did get settled and they could no more content would be added?

  • @Orion said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1656507#Comment_1656507

That's not what I heard from people who played it. The stats don't indicate that either, since the game had a weak launch (compared to DbD, the game it was supposed to "kill") and the player count quickly tanked.

The lawsuit was the final nail but it was on shaky ground for a long time.

The game had an ok launch but failed to keep players. Personally the lawsuit just gave them a legitimate out to stop production since even if it had been settled quickly they stated no more content would be made and it would just receive fixes.

If we think about all the games made and even the recent Predator hunting grounds. They have all been DBD killers. It's the age old wish for those that want it to happen when a new game comes out within the same genre and the same one has been used since WoW. Someone doesn't agree with how a game is or the direction it is going so of course it will die due to the next released game in the genre.

  • I don't feel like undying needed to aura reading part as we already have thrill for notifications. Its strong enough and does what its intended to do without it.

Its why I think it should be removed as Undying should make survivors want to do totems when seen but instead its better to rush the gens asap instead and wait for someone to be in a chase or go down before jumping on one.

  • Seems like this change was certainly needed for clarification judging by this post.

  • I would rather dlc characters stayed lower in price than any skins honestly.

Skins don't change the game play in anyway.

  • Just a head up.

DS has went through about 5 changes over the years.

Just because they don't mention something that doesn't mean it isn't being worked on.

They may just not be able to discuss it atm as the change isn't as easy as another one.

There is also the Thana change which no one mentions but the new numbers which we are waiting on may just make the perk worthwhile and more why PGTW is being changed.

I think this game would be Far Better if the hatch just Wasn't a thing anymore

It was always just a way to end the game but then people found ways to abuse it.

If there was no hatch then the doors would have to power which then means making them further apart and it would be survivor sided.

They tested just closing the hatch with no egc and survivors would still stealth around trying not to be caught so it prolonged the game still. Its was a lose scenario when it came to find a mechanic to just end the game.

  • @Lmronby said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1649461#Comment_1649461

But that would leave gens to still be done; if they want to go That far, but I see your point

Everyone else is suggesting Slugging the 3rd survivor and other weak, boring 'tactics'

It does but if the survivor doesnt do gens or if the gens are close enough in proximity to where the hatch spawned then we have the old standoff scenario which negates the purpose of the egc itself.

It's better then to make closing the hatch when found the best option so we can all move on quicker to the next match.

Even before this change I personally would just jump in or walk away to end the game but unbelievably some would stand for over an hour staring at each other.

People have always and will always slug for the 4k to stop the opening of the hatch but that's down to the mindset of each player.

  • They are working on fixing this issue as the server atm does favour a killer with a higher ping.

It's a known issue and hopefully the system will be ready soon.

  • It was to stop hatch standoffs.

If the killer could still grab they could decide to not to close the hatch so the egc would not start.

  • What I take from this change is they don't simply want to increase gens times as it becomes monotonous.

So what the trade off is to make the perk increase gen times but give a counter which in essence takes the debuff away but at the same time slows the game down. I.e make survivors want to heal.

If you slow down both then you cant buff the one needed. It makes perfect sense and could be a buff to plague as survivors not cleansing could be more detrimental.

Legion survivors will need to learn to spread out more to compensate for the change.

  • Personally I feel players are overreacting a bit much over this slight nerf.

Firstly we don't know what the thana numbers will be.

Secondly DS has been changed 5 times since release and I don't think a change to a perk on one side should warrant one to a perk on the other.

While I dont like DS myself and feel it should be looked at we also don't know what they are planning. They may not have something they are allowed to say on that as yet but that doesn't mean its not being worked on.

I feel DS is being used a lot of the time as an offensive perk when it should imo be a defensive one. Its why I feel some changes are warranted. I feel it should deactivate when you jump on a gen or do a totem. Something which is pushing the game forward. It however doesn't deactivate while healing until you are fully healed.

  • Personally I would like the addition of WGLF stacks to come from healing, picking up a downed survivor and even doing totems since all of them help the others and go with the idea of the perk.

One thing they could do is make it hide any aura while doing anything which gains a stack and also show all the others your aura while within 2m till its completed.

  • They serve the purpose of allowing a killer to setup so they should stay.

What would be better is system where survivors are locked in first giving killers time to setup along with a leaving the lobby timeout as we should accept the game as it is.

  • Taking a break is never a bad thing we all need to do this from time to time no matter the game we play.

Hopefully the fixes you require come soon. We know they are still working on them.

Don't worry about those who try to ridicule how you type in English as its not your native language. At least you try and that should be commended.

  • Probably due to when you started the hit the closest survivor to you is the one being unhooked so your hit box and Megs are where the hit will register. While yes you end up looking at Ace when the hit completes the animation with aim dressing had already calculated whom to hit.

  • Some use brackets to put a clan tag in them.

  • This build wasn't used as much when DS got changed tbh.

What happened was killers started to slug to counter the use of DS. Survivors then started to use UB to counter that.

The issue here is the strats used by both sides not just one. You can't nerf one without doing something about the other side.

Now the devs are in a strange position atm as they don't want players to be slugged the whole match or have them taken out by camping or tunneling but they also don't want to punish those as sometimes it the best strat to use and can be needed.

So how do you fix this issue? DS I would say could do with a little change.

For one it hides the aura of survivors and screams when its active. Second once you start an action like gen or totem it removes it. Mending doesn't affect it and you must heal to full to remove its use. This gives players a choice to make so doing actions to further the game lead to you losing the perk.

  • For the same reason they don't allow survivors to opt out playing against certain killers. Players should be able to use what is allowed in the game without fear of not getting a match.

Cross play is entirely different as it doesn't affect the ability to play with everything the game offers just with other platforms.

You must be lucky as I experience being unable to hook survivors, kick pallets, vault windows, kick generators multiple of times in one game. There's been games where I've been unable to hook a single a survivor, I've been forced to just slug and force survivors to bleed out.

From my experience playing killer is unplayable against good survivors, because having a survivor being able wiggle free because of the hook bug can be the difference between winning the match and losing the match.

As I said in a previous post I do not play Huntress (because I'm bad with her), however, I know Huntress's hit box is like having a whale thrown at you. So from my POV the Huntress hit box fit was more beneficial for survivors, but if the hit box fix actually benefit Huntress players then I hold my hands up and admit I was wrong in that regard.

I haven't bough Blight, so I haven't experienced bugs with the perk "Dragon's Grip".

Also this was the listed bug fixes in my news feed when I opened the game (The last four patch fixes weren't mentioned in my news feed):

Thats just a highlight. If you clicked for more detailed patch notes as it states you would see more.

Technically most of them are for both sides and the only real survivor one was the heartbeat.

The issues of hooking, vaulting and kicking gens are most likely one issue as they are all tied to an action being performed.

The huntress fix is for both sides as the hit was inconsistent. While some hit round corners others wouldn't hit at all and could go right through a survivor making both sides feel cheated.

The issue with some bugs are when they happen randomly as not consistent can take longer to fix as they need a lot more testing replicating the bug to pinpoint exactly what is going on. It's like the DS bug as it is only bugged on certain killers.
