We can debate all day about if it's fair or if it's a crutch, but see it for what it is: a 2nd chance. We talk about 2nd chance perks and stuff, but when you think about it, 2nd and 3rd chances are actually built into the core game.
How the survivors do on gens is irrelevant since it spawns no matter what, either when enough gens have been done or if there is just 1 survivor left. And people argue hatch is fair because a survivor can jump in, but not if the killer closes it first. That's the 2nd chance, and it's 100% RNG.
THEN for whatever reason, closing the hatch powers the gates, even if it was opened with a key. The killer can intercept the survivor opening the gate or they can't get there in time, and the survivor escapes. That's the 3rd chance. Therefore the initial defense of "But you can just close hatch!" is invalid, because even after that the survivor has a way out. Not to mention that the survivors could find another key and escape through it a 2nd time.
Can you kind of see why I want hatch removed? Killers have nothing like hatch, no 2nd chances built into the game. I don't want one either, because neither side should have that. Hatch is not skill-based. It's just something that exists for no good reason, and leads to a drastically different match result. If you want to defend it still, you must own that you're using a 2nd chance mechanic.
So, let me ask you this: Do you want boring games that end after 2 minutes? Because in a lot of games someone dcs or hooksuicides early. Then, the game is basicly over for survivors, and they can give up, go afk or dc themself. The hatch is what keeps them going, because they might get it if everything else fails.
Otherwise, a SWF becomes a requirement to play the game, and i dont think thats a good thing for the majority of killers.

If it is rampant for you it is probably not them. Do you just think they all have horrible personalities and you have done nothing to draw this wrath your direction? I will say that I do not play killer late at night, generally I get my killer dailies and rift stuff done during the day because that is when I have time. But I also don't camp, tunnel and slug which I assume helps me not have to deal with death threats.
Actually, yeah, i think a lot of them have horrible personalities.
When i play killer, i get those comments no matter if i camped or not, no matter if i 0k or 4k. I started useing tunneling and camping, because survivors insult you anyway. But if they die one after another, half of them is gone when the game ends. But in theory, you could think i am biased, because the comments are aimed at me.
But i am a survivor main, and play mostly Survivor. And i see those comments a lot from my fellow teammates, even on killers who go out of their way to NOT tunnel and everything. What plattform do you play on?
-
I play with my children, spent time with my wife, play pen and paper rpg, and other video games. (or combinations, since i play p&p and some games with my wife)

But coming up with "got stomped by a 4 man" is dumb. Sorry, being a 4 man SWF will most likely not be the reason why he lost. He lost because they were better.
The question is: were they better on themself, or because they had communication on top if it?
I play solo survivor most of the time, but i did play my share of swf (mostly 3, sometimes 4). To pretend that communication doesnt give you a real big boost is just so far from reality, that i have to asume you are intentionaly ignoring reality out of fear the devs might some day decide to do something about it. There are at least two other explanations, but i dont want to think of someone i dont even know that way unless proven different.
You can do a little experiment. You play 10 games with comms, and 10 without. And then check the results, and see if they are the same.
Or put another way: If you have a survivor group at the same skill level as the killer, do you think they will do better with comm or without? Or do you think there would be no difference?
-
IF thats true, can you explain why the swf-survival rate is higher than the solo survival rate?
-
They might want to have fun, but they also have an unfair advantage.
-
Well, if it happens, would swf only be allowed in casual? It should be, since your focus seems to be on balance.

A long time ago the devs added something called downing and hooking survivors. I don't know if people still use it or not, but back then that's how gen speeds were "fixed".
These modern times appear to be a completely different beast with killers needing more help than ever. /s
Thats true. But the survivors started to cry, because the downing only took 2 hits, so the devs gave them perks like dead hard, to extend it to a third hit. And because survivors were afraid of the hooking, especially the second time, the devs gave them other perks to extend the downing and hooking, like ds and bt.
And it still worked, because there was a slowdown perk, called "HEX:Ruin". But the new survivors were completly different beasts, and they cried because they couldn´t hit great skill checks. So the devs changed it. And now, for the majority of killers, there is not enough time for the downing and hooking of all survivors. Thats why a lot of them tunnel and camp, causing more crying from the survivors, because it is soo unfair that a killer can kill someone.
/s
Edit: I edited that post, because after reading it again, the last paragraph could be taken as a personal attack, which i didn´t intend it to be. (but i am not a native speaker, so i may have made a mistake here)
@Waffleyumboy if you read it, and you were insulted by it, then i apologize, because i didnt mean to do that.

Trapper has potential. I had a game where i hooked a survivor on a small hill, and put two traps on the way up. Then i got to the next gen, and 2! survivors got caugth in both traps at once, unable to help each other, because they couldnt free themself...

Reminding doesn't make coding faster.
But moving the topic up in priority might cause them to reroute resources, and that might achive that.
Also, as long as i suffer from broken matches, i open threads on the topic.
And of course its the n+1th thread about it, because its broken for some time now, which indicates it didnt have a high priority so far.
-
I am a survivor main, and i say its survivorsided. I play both sides anyway, but survivor i like better and play it more.
But since the last patch i keep stats on my survivor games.
So far, i played 172 games as a solo survivor, and i survived 108 of them, which is over the usual survival rate.
The kill Rate in those games however was on avarage at 2,26 Kills per game, above the 2kill the devs aim for. I started keeping tracks of the maps only later, but can do a sum up if you want to.
What i found is that most of the 3k and 4k games resolve around camping/tunneling/mori, or around a very bad team after the rank reset, where the games where not so much won by the killer but lost by the survivors (like 2 people, me included, simply not saved from hook, people not doing gens ("i havent done gens for the last 10 games, and i am not going to" is a quote, hookfarming, and so on)

SWF isnt an issue as long as they all run OoO. Competent solos will have the same impact than same skilled SWF, cause they know how to play.
Again, i disagree. If you have Ciompetent solos, and give them communication, they will perform better than they did without it, just because the lot of small information pieces add up.
As for dodging: If there is a reason why killer would dodge, it is because of the power imbalance. But if swf were balanced different than solo survivors, then it would still be a fair game, and the killer would have no need to dodge.
But saying its ok to give the killer 50% unfair matches because swf dont want to lose their advantage, and the killer should have the choice to play only the 50% of fair games seems very wrong to me.
-
@Aven_Fallen said:
In the Post Game Screen - sure.
But it will be a shocker for many Killers to see that they lost against 4 Solos and cannot blame SWF for their lack of Skill.
Well, there are survivors that get 4kd long before all gens are done and still try to shame the killer for using noed. Seems like they are not shocked, they blame noed anyway. So not much of a difference there.
-
Well, removing hook stage 1 and 2 would solve camping easily. But maybe thats not a favorable way for survivors.
you can get ideas, but i think if you take camping as a strategy away, you need to compensate the killers somehow. A lot of killers camp because they are just mediocre at playing killer, and matched with much better players most of the time, and they have no other way to keep up.
So, when i started playing the game, games went on a lot longer than now, but there was less camping for sure. It just got worse after ruin was changed and the pressure and gamespeed just went up.
Personaly, i liked the longer games better, because they had more interaction, and more back and forth. Today, it often becomes very clear which side steamrolls the other.
-
Maybe it should be a sticky so you got a permalink for every "but survivors are so bad now" post.
-
I plyed 168 games as solo survivor since the last patch, and i died in 58 of them.
In the ones that i died (and that were 3 or 4ks), it was not uncommon for a game to resolve around a combination of mori/camping/tunneling,
as well as suvivors simply losing the game for being stupid (my survival rate took a big hit after the rank reset. Now in red ranks its better again)
Hookfarming, some people just doing nothing than hidding around the map (for a long time i thought those people dont exist, but i had to take aura perks, and now i know they do), and survivors just flocking around the hook, or running to the hook with the killer in tow.
I would say this game is still survivor sided, but if you play solo, it depends a lot on the survivor you get. Just one potato can lose the game for all of them.

Maybe if you actually played survivor for once instead of exlusively playing killer you could form your own opinion without having to ask such an ignorant question
Is there a "most useless answer in a thread"-Reward you are aiming for? Because if this thread had shown anything up to your post, it is that boring is a lot of different things to different people. So you need the different opinions, because only relying on your own point of view would be, well ignorant.
-
Starcraft too. You leave the match and you are fine to go.
-
What i like on killers is actually diversity.
You have killers you can loop easy, and you have killer you cant.
you have killers you can hide from easy, you have killer you can´t hide from as easy.
So you have to adept and cant rely on one playstyle, no matter how good you are at looping.
And thats the think i see in a lot of those "this is wrong with killer X"-Threads: it all comes down to not being able or willing to adept.
Why is the 50/50 chance not based on skill? If you can read the playstyle of your opponent, you can make an educated guess. Its not like the survivor is pushed into your arms by the spirits ability.
But sure, thats a different playstyle than just running around in circles until you have to throw down a pallet.
-
I think we just live in times with a big oversaturation in about every aspect of life.
There are really good tv shows out there almost nothing from 20 years ago could match.
Same is true for movies, and games as well.
So, i think what happens is that people simply have no need to look back to a game they left. If they find something else, they are engaged in a new game/brand, or they are just hoping further to the next one.
Also, i usually dont read wow forums or starcraft forums anymore, because i stopped playing these games a long time ago. So even if really good changes were made, i doubt i would even know it.
-
But other games give me the option to chose who i play with and who i play against. this game doesnt. And if you open this can of worms, people suiciding would be a small issue, as it already is, because a lot of games would simple get dodged.
-
Ok, first scenario is my fault, and the other survivor was being a good sportsman and teamplayer by leading him to me?
Second, i dont know what a bad play is for you, but i walking about this things being done intentionally to grief your fellow survivors.
And i believe that, if people intentionally mess with me, yes, i have all the right to quit, because i still decide whom i play with and whom i not play with.
Also, bannable offence is good and nice, only nothing is ever done without video evidence, which i usually dont have.
-
First of, where is it written what a killer must and must not do? Seems like some made-up rules to me.
Also, your survivor idea is a little different. If the killer camps, even if the survivors do nothing, not working on a gen or anything, the game still progresses, due to the hooked survivor dying. your idea has nothing to progress the game furchter, its just producing a stallmate.

As it stands, the hunt for the hatch currently favors the killer in several ways. See the orig post for the list.
I have had many matches where i found the hatch first but it was not yet open (btw the death animation and hatch opening) I had to sit there and watch the killer walk over to the hatch, wait for it to open and then close it.
I found the hatch before the killer but because the hatch doesn't open until after the complete sacrifice animation is done, all advantage goes to the killer.
Not to mention the EGC is killer sided...and the gate spawn is usually killer sided (too close to one another)
So i believe that the argument could be made for the hatch opening a few secs sooner.
Are you aware that thats the situation where a key is for? Bring one, and your problem is gone. Also, out of my last 145 matches as solo survivor, 21 games saw the last survivor escape through the hatch without key, and 14 had 1 or more surviors escape with a key. so roughly 25% of matches. Doesnt seem too bad for survivors.
-
@C3Tooth said:
I have more simple idea as the trial starts at 5min count down, each Gen done will add in another 5min. However if the count down is timeout. EGC triggered.
Survivors hiding doing nothing is rare, but its super annoying that you just walk around a whole 10min without making the game progressing. And Im sure its a game hostage which you can report.
So, survivors would basicly not touch any gen, just kill all the totems they could find to prevent noed, and after 5 minutes the egc powers the gates, and 4 unhooked survivors have to choose between 2 doors to escape. dosnt sound like desireable gameplay to me, actually.

Queuing in SWF with a lower-rank teammate does not actually guarantee you'll get matched with lower-rank killers. The SWF group is matched with a killer based on the highest survivor rank in the lobby. So if, as you said, there were 3 rank ones and a rank twenty, the killer you'd face will most likely be red ranked.
You want some pictures about green rank killers vs all red ranked swf?
You are right in that you describe how its suppose to work. But thats not the way it works in reality, especially if no killer is availible that matches the highest rank survivor.
So, you are basicly right, and still very wrong.
-
And why should people want to or have to play with a jerk?
-
Why is dodging not a valid reason?
I played a game with 3 swf. I was chased by the killer the whole time, and could juke him 3 times. I then got to a chest and got a key.
I joined others in doing gens, and finished 2. One gen to go. Then the killer found me on a gen, and hooked me. He didnt camp, yet the team didnt save me. They let me die on first hook, took my key and escaped via hatch. Then they told me it was "because you didnt do anything all game" despite the fact that 2 of the players had just 2k bloodpoints more than me including survival and hatch bonus.
and you think i should be forced to play with such players again? Why? And a good reason plz.
-
@Reinami said:
As both killer and survivor i find it absolute bullshit. Happens in a good chunk of my games. When someone does it, either because they don't like the killer or they don't like that they were first downed. It completely ruins the game, basically guarantees the killer will win, and also makes the killer lucky to black pip. It's bad for everyone in the game and there is no excuse to not treat it the same as a D/C
Can you explain how you know that? I, for one, suicide on the hook from time to time. But i dont do it because i am downed first, and i dont do it because i dont like the killer, i do it because my fellow survivors are people i dont want to play with. Want examples?
- I play vs Trapper, and another uninjured survivor is in the chase (i had bound and could see it). I steped into the trap and the other surivor changed his course to run to me and lose the killer who just had to down me, even though the other was still uninjured.
- The game starts, and i go to a gen, and see we have ruin. And i see the hex totem. I go there and start cleansing, then another survivor comes, sees me, teabagges me, and rushes in and out of a locker 3 times to alarm the killer (same can happen if you are on a chest or something)
- People coming to unhook me, and then are found by the killer. They keep running to me, killer in tow, and unhook me in front of him without bt., then bodyblock me to get away themself.
- You are on a gen, and another survivor in a chase comes close. I hide, to go back to the gen once they pass. The survivor sees me, and runs around my hidding place (which was not a loop) several times until the killer finally sees me and goes for the easier target.
Those things happen time and again, Survivor who come to you while you heal to lose the killer to you, hookfarming, all of it.
Yeah, i try to stay out of chases, because i am not a good looper, but i do gens, i unhook, and i even do bones. I am not just hidding in the corner.
If dcs happens to you often as survivor, then maybe you should reevaluate your play style. Maybe the people just don´t want to play with you.
-
Well, i just had a game with a 3-swf, i was solo survivor. I got a key in a chest, and they let me die on purpose to get the key and escape.
Then they told my they did it because i didnt do gens...while i got boltness maxed out because i was in the chase with the killer half of the game.
Even though they all got 7k from the hatch escape, 2 of them only got 2k more than me. Yet they told me i did nothing all game, and thats why they let me die.
I think thats pretty toxic.
-
I think history will repeat itself.
They will nerf Freddy, probably into the ground, and within a week the complains about the next best killer start popping up.
After some time, that killer will be nerfed, too, and less people will play killer. Then a balance change will happen that all killers profit from, and the survivor mains will cry murder.
If enough band aids are used, maybe the game will be balanced one day. Altough that means killer will be too powerfull for the average solo survivor, or just chanceless against swf swat teams. We will see.
-
I personally would report you both for playing together.
I am a stealthy player myself, and there are games the killer never saw me. But i do gens and unhooks in almost every game, and there are lots of games i basicly do gens alone. Just that i am good at not being found is no reason for the killer to work with another survivor to get my while i do all the work.
-
Hmm, let me ask you all some questions.
Would you agree, that the perfect balance in a game would be if you got the same survivors and the same killer randomly matched against each other, and you can´t tell beforehand who is gonna win, and the statistics were about 50% for win or lose, that the game would be balanced?
If so, if the 4 player were "only good survivors", it would still be balanced, right? Do you think those chances would change if those solo survivors suddenly had voice chat? In other words, do you think solo survivors would perform better if they were an swf instead? Please give a reason for your answer, because that is the point.
The ops first point is true: there are solo survivors that are good. And there are swf that are not. But what happens if they are matched against someone of equal skill? And what about the fact that there are swfs who actually have skill to match those of solo survivors?
To handle an swf, the killer has to have a higher skill than the swf group. At least thats my believe.
Second point, i played my fair share of swf, and the amount of information you get is insane. And it really has an impact on the tension/Stresslevel you have if you always know if the killer might be a thread to you, and you are just not knowing it. To downplay the impact of freely shared information seems to be made to fit the argument.
A lot of arguments you use are also true for moris, for example. They dont happen that often, and if survivors had a different mindset and would just go on to the next game its not a big deal. But Moris are actually balance-shifting, so those arguments dont hold. And that is true for swf-communication as well.
-
If the game woud be just about perks and addons it might be fine.
But the game evolved, and now resolves around communication a lot. I take moris to have a fighting chance against swf, because they dont use only perks and addons.
solve the swf problem, and i am fine with moris changing or gone

A perk used against CAMPING KILLERS? Also, you can't always find a survivor when you're being CHASED by the killer who was camping you. Sometimes you have to run from him, and loop him for a while, before he loses you, and you can't constantly be moving while looping a killer. Again, there's no excuse for that interaction. As for saying he DESERVES to down someone just for them being unhooked is incredibly biased.
As for why remove it? Let's see, because it's extremely abusable to the same effect as old Legion? If I gave a Doc a good run, he hooks me, camps me, someone uses BT to get me off, and he chases me again, and leaves me while I'm in tier 3 but also deep wounds, I don't think he deserves a free down. I don't see how anybody COULD think he deserves that. Mending should come before Snap Out of It. You can still be shown your location to him while mending, it's a fairer situation all around, if he wants to chase someone for another round while they're mending he has that choice. A free down out of circumstance is not fair.
But it isnt a free down, is it? It is a legit down, that was avoided by bt in the first place. He still have to hit you to activate bt.
So why do you falsly claim its free? Just to make your point, instead of having a meaningful discussion?
-
This game has a hide-and-seek component, and thats why its important not to be able to temper with grafics too much to avoid gaining unfair advantages. Yes, a Claudette is hard to see in a dark corner, but thats actually the point.
Sure, it would help low end pc users, but a lot of people would try to gain that advantage even if they dont need it performance wise.
-
Well, despite some people beliving the game resolves around chases and running in circles only, for some of us its a hide-and-seek game. Therefore, survivors, who cant outran the killer, have to be able to duck behind a corner and try to hide. Less visibility helps with that.
Of course thats one of the reason a lot of people want to disable grafic effects, because that would change the "hide-and-seek" balance in their favour.
-
I play killer to have a different gameplay from survivor. IF i enjoy it depends completly on matchmaking. If i get a fair match, even if i lose, i enjoy it.
If i am ranked against a skilled swf squad where i am chanceless from the beginning, no, its frustrating, to the point where i started dcing. (funny though, i only started dcing since the dc penaltys are around. It actually helps me to not being able to get into the next game and so something else instead). Note that i am just a mediocre killer, and far from rank 1, yet its not uncommon to be paired against red rank swfs.
-
Well, i keep stats as solo survivor since the last patch, and i have to say this:
I like games that go on, back and forth the best. i dont mind losing then, but camping and tunneling prevent that.
However, i played over 100 games. i got 17 0kills, and 20 4ks. 4 of the 4ks did so with neither mori, camping nor tunneling (although 2 got devour hope to get active on a map where they weren´t found. But thats fair to me).
All other 4k resolved around those strategies, with a major chunk of the 3ks as well.
So to me, while it shows that killers can get 4k without doing those tactics, the majority of players that dont deploy those are not doing that well.
So a killer has to decide to either give the surivors a game they can enjoy, or to be effective. Both is very hard, and while i would want killer to get the enjoyable route, i find a lot of survivors very toxic, and can understand why killers then rather chose effectiveness.
Also to remark: I think a lot of 3 and 4k´s are actually not won by the killers, but lost by the survivors. If i played swf instead, i think those numbers would be very differen.

It's questionable in the sense that neither killers or survivors are an oppressed group. This is all overly dramatic.
Every point you mentioned has it's analogous for survivors.
- 4-man SWF----> Gamebreaking add-ons.
- Clicky flashlight users------> Really inconsequential on gameplay and laughable this is even an argument, but for the sake of it: smacking hooked survivors.
- Survivors are salty even though they got outplayed------> Works both ways. Players in general are salty when they lose.
- Holding the game hostage-----> It's not a thing anymore, unless a bug happens.
- DC'ing for hatch-----> Facecamping to secure the hefty 1k.
Is facecamping and dcing are about the same, can you explain why there is a dc penalty, but not a facecamping one?
Because one of it is cheating, and the other is not.

The problem with this perk is that the killer can decide which generator to turn off. They could hook a survivor next to a strategicly important gen, put that gen back to 0% and camp, for example.
Besides that: Doing gens is not exciting. This perk would basically mean that the survivors have to do one more gen. That's the same as just increasing gen repair time. It would work for balance reasons, but we are not talking about it because doing gens is not exciting.
I agree on the point that chosing the gen would be way too strong.
On the side note: Yes, doing gens is not exciting. But neither is running around in circles, till a survivor uses a second chance perk, and you run in circles some more. If thats the argument, some Survivor second chance perks should be changed.
-
In the picture below, the one with the slide, i would argue that the effect impacts visualls, and that was my point. It might not be a lot, but it might be a distraction if you move past a light source.
To make it clear, i didnt want you to explain what it is, because i know that, i wanted you to explain why you belive that it is not an advantage to turn it of an have a distraction took away that is meant to be in the game. Because thats the point i disagree with.

Volumetric fog is NOT giving an advantage. Do you even researched what it is before saying that?
Can you explain why?
-
The problem is visibility and optic is a part of the gameplay in this game, that´s why its problematic if a lot of people just want to avoid them, because it is giving them an advantage. Effects like that can distract you, or obscure something from you, and in this game, i believe they are meant to do that.
-
Well, if i think i played against an swf i usually ask them in the end, and usually they confirm they were swf (even if sometimes only 2 or 3). So, in the few cases where i suspect an swf and they deny it, i simply tend to belive them, unless there is further proof. (like seeing them all again in another game ^^) Thus said, in certain region/ranking-Combinations i believe you see the same players over and over, so if they were all red rank from one region, it might be a legit coincidence.
-
@Fibijean
As others have said, no, they are not lairs, but they have a history about broken plans and promises.
And i dont even hold that against them, because i understand that plans sometimes need to adapt, and some promises have to back away for the health of the game, because other things occur or circumstances change.
But i dont have faith in this promised matchmaking for 2 reasons.
First, the elephant in the room SWF. I belive it is next to impossible to balance the game around solo and swf. There are a lot of information and disinformationperks in this game, that are all nullified by swf with comms. It clearly shows, the game never was designt for it.
A modern online game needs the option to play with friends, i fully agree on that. Its nothing they can take out of the game, nor should they.
That said, it needs to be balanced different than solo survivors. But the devs are afraid of the backlash if they made a seperatly balanced swf lobby, because swf would just lose their advantage, because it could be balanced around that. No killer would use knockout in that lobby, because he knew it was worthless.
But how do you assess the skill level of a team? For simplicity, lets just asume they set it to the highest skilled member, even though we knew it is still unbalanced then.
Which leads us to the second point. The devs have several times made clear (or so i understood it) that lobby times have a high priority. And rightly so, because noone wants to wait 1 hour to play the game. But in the past, they ranked low lobby times over fairly balanced games.
One of the problems with the current matchmaking is (other than the rank not being a viable measurrement) the fact that they extend the rank range you search for the longer the waiting time gets. That leads to the point where the 3 red rank swf get matched up with the equally long waiting rank 18 survivor and get thrown on the next availible killer.
And thats simply a matter of opinion, i know as much players like myself which would rather wait another 15 minutes and get a good balanced game as i know players who dont mind unbalanced games because they just kill themself on the hook and try the next game as long as its just 1 minute away.
And you are right, we dont need to know the algorithms behind the MMR. But they will hide the result of that algorithms (at least that what i understood, but maybe i am mistaken), to avoid people realizing they were sacrificed for shorter queue times. And there is no need for that, other than stop complaints.
So no, i dont expect any MagicalMatchRating to fix it all. The biggest balance and therefore skill difference will not be adressed, the second one will most likly be kept like it is on purpose.

It's not what they plan on doing, that's a conspiracy theory made up by players with no basis whatsoever. They're replacing ranks with an MMR system, which is planned to not only be a more accurate reflector of player skill, but also rewards or punishes players proportionally to the difference in skill between them and their opponents (for example, you will lose fewer MMR points if you lose to an opponent who is better than you are). You can find more information about the upcoming changes in this post: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/124795/status-update-matchmaking-changes
First of, i would deny that the "conspiracy Theory" has no basis. The basis is the experience the player base have with claims of the devs and the result of changes made, which not always line up.
However, there is something in your post i dont understand, maybe you can explain it to me. The new MMR system will reflect the player skill more accurate. Shouldn´t that result in people of equal skill being matched with each other? If not, how is the MMR more accurate? If it does, why do we need rewards and punishments for different skill levels? To me, it seems like a contradiction.
