They did, didn't they?
When the summer comes again - I hope for the swimsuit skins for survivors (or even killers) which are doesn't have one.
I think I saw some topless models for guys and maybe some shorts type stuff too. I wanted something for Jane and maybe even Haddie. Thick girls go to the beach too. I've seen them.
-
Release a swimsuit series and I'd be all over it like suntan lotion on a towel.
-
I don't know if it still works well, but using it in an anti-heal loadout on pig map was pretty brutal. Clownophobia, Distressing, Unnerving, Sloppy. I used this a lot with Billy a while back. Meme build, but hella funny.
-
Well they can't go back, even though I preferred the old way too. But if they did, they'd have to scrap MMR per killer as we know it and people were complaining pretty hard about that before— about how they couldn't have fun games trying to learn the killer because they were facing good survivors. That really sucked.
Also, you have to take into account that with the old system, you could possibly be pitted against the same people over and over again. Again, that really sucked. This definitely happened if you played enough to get to red ranks within a few days, and you'd also have to wait 10-15 minutes per match even then. And since we know BHVR prioritizes queue speeds after a certain amount of time, I doubt they're going to go back to 10-15 minutes. It wasn't unheard of to go against the same killer or survivors 5-6 times in a row. Sometimes, you'd just straight lobby dodge as killer or as survivor, you'd either wait a while to stagger the killers or you'd check the ping to see if it was similar to what you had before. On the extreme end, you'd use a smurf account or two to get you through the first couple weeks. It was a pain in the ass. It might be different now, now that there are more players, but I doubt it.
Just the other day I watched a couple videos of killers taking on a comp team and P100 lobby and how they said it was refreshing to play against them because they don't normally get a challenge. Yeah…. they wouldn't say that if every single game was exhausting like that, and BHVR banks on people playing for hours and hours on end. You take on an exhausting challenge, and you're lucky if you hit 5-6 games every other night. True competitive games are pretty ######### taxing and you need a very strong-willed person to do that for as much as BHVR wants you to play. And our community…. well, let's just say that BHVR is looking out for us. :D

Ok guys so look: Chaos Shuffle match that I JUST played:
So in this match Jake was afk from the beginning - so I decided to let 1 survivor go, but this survivor gave up on a hook and said this at the end:

https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/8PQPSKWGPQPB/2.png
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/4G4DRJL5A33F/3.png
Why do these players playing as a survivor - when they don't wanna play? They tired, hard day on work… So why jump in the team based game - if they don't wanna play?
Obviously she said: - "I had to do something important" - and I make it like I believed her, but I'm not. (I hope she doesn't see it)
Why did she even q-ed up for the match? Can anyone help me understand this "madness"?
It's because she didn't want to play a 3v1. Or if she was the one that was AFK, then it sounds like she didn't feel like playing against Xenomorph.. probably because playing against it requires more attention. That's my read on it anyway.
Regardless, I doubt you're going to get any real talk here about exactly why. The forum is moderated and it's hard to get an honest dialogue going without triggering some wires here and there. So just keep that in mind.
-
There was at least one time where they said killers were using moris to target survivors out of spite. It was in a developer update a couple years back.
Total shocker, tbh.
-
Use Red Herring.
-
"Dev note: Revealing pallets and windows was much less useful for Killers than Survivors since the Killer is present every time a pallet is broken. We have reworked this Perk to instead reveal Survivor auras near dropped pallets. This will provide some useful info during a chase and allow for some interesting mindgames."
No they didn't just say that. :D
Sounds like it's going to be a pretty good perk.

What do you think people were doing when Kate wasn't a survivor
To be fair, that was a very different time. Safe pallets everywhere. Tiles were known, and planning routes was pretty easy to link to others. Sometimes you could use several tiles as one big one if there were fun windows in play and you could do it on the fly in one pass through as long as you recognize the tiles. You didn't need WoO. I don't even think the perk became a thing until a few years ago when the devs started making the maps less safe. Not saying survivors don't get strong setups these days, because I still find some wonky generation but it's nowhere near what it was before. So let's say it how it was.
I've only used WoO twice since coming back. I'd rather use something else, but I see why so many people use it these days. The new tiles are crapola.

Players should be free to leave up until the moment they load into the match. So I don't agree with locking lobbies or punishing for leaving lobbies. You either keep it as is, or you load straight into the match the moment a fully party of players is matched, cutting out the lobby entirely.
The latter could have technical issues to iron out first, we don't know.
There's also some niche situations where I think the lobby does serve a purpose:
- While it's not really available on console, survivor communication is useful and if there's any chance of coordinating perks before hand, that's a good thing to keep. Without the lobby this is only available to premade SWFs. But, is it used often outside of SWF? Maybe not.
- Some killer perks are very situational and the choice to use them can be informed by the survivors. The biggest culprit probably being Lightborn. Virtually useless unless multiple survivors bring Flashlights. This perk will flat out never be used if you can't see the survivors in the lobby because it's too much of an investment to gamble on.
I'm not claiming these outweigh the negatives of lobby dodging, but they're factors.
Personally I'd rather them come to a solution for backfilling before they make the rash decision to delete the lobby. If lobby dodging didn't affect matchmaking, I can't say I'd have much of a problem with it.
For example, the only time I really dodge lobbies these days is if I'm playing a friendly game of killer and want to match with a couple of PSN players so I can send a GG after the match and share some clips with them. Unlike the in game chat, PSN chat interactions I have are mostly wholesome.
I wouldn't mind if the matches went straight to the offering screen, or the game itself. People don't really use that chat for important stuff anyway. This is what they say:
Nea: Can anyone read this?
David: No.
Dwight: Nea's a ####.
Adam: Jane you look hot.
Elodie: Come to me for heals. I have autodidact.
Jeff.ttv: Ok. ←- proceeds to load in with No Mither.

@Hex_Ignored said:
Ideally, lobbies would provide no info at all. Survivors would just be shown as black silhouettes named "player 1/2/3/4" and that'd be it.
I've always liked the idea of just using the campfire scene, like right after you boot up the game, that shows survivors kicking back by the fire. I think that's a pretty good distance, and believable if you have some fog and a wall or bush to obscure the killer from view.
I'd like a little interaction too, like maybe the killer could throw something in their direction and survivors would hear it on their end. Or maybe the killer could pick one person to inspect and have a camera zoom in a little more for a better looksee.
-
Ever since BHVR put in MMR, cherry picking lobbies should have been tossed out too. That should have been done at the same time. Never understood the logic to keep it in considering dodging can really bork matchmaking up. Or maybe they fixed it? I dunno—been gone a while.
Don't people just ready up and alt tab out until the game starts any more?

Just played a match with Rapid who has 8,000 hours, Me who has 2,500 hours on PC, and another survivor with 4,000 hours, with the 4 survivor being cross plat so I couldn’t check there hours but they were P100.
Our killer was an P12 Pyramid Head that only had 101 hours in the game. How is this possible? I knew the MMR would get loose after a while of searching but it only took 15 seconds to find that match, maybe less.
This explains why I see all those clips of 10,000 hour survivors bullying clearly brand new killers. And honestly proves that survivors don’t Smurf at all, they just play normal matches. It’s kind of insane that the MMR is that broad.
Does anyone have any clue how the MMR in this game works at all? I thought I had a high MMR because I went against Mish the other day but clearly that meant nothing.
Yeah, the guy on our team with the highest hours has 14k. I'm close to 10k and everyone else falls inbetween 5-12. We go against tier 1 perk killers every night we play, in the off hours. This isn't new because before I stopped playing a year and a half ago, this was a thing. I remember the devs saying that they would rather put us in lobbies to play games than have us wait, even if that means MMR goes out the window. I never liked the idea. It's why my friends and I came up with our own objectives to make the games more fair. It seems even worse now because even with our team, we rarely have to wait long at all. A couple minutes at most, and in the off-hours, it's a crapshoot. Before, we'd have to wait between 5-10 and the games were more fair.
I think MMR works for the most part, but maybe 65-75% in prime time? I don't give it much weight during any other time. It usually does weed out the ultra noobs from the try hards, but when you're talking about the mid range, it's bad, regardless of time. Their best form of matchmaking was the system before this where you had to grind out of grey ranks, and if you were at red ranks after 3-4 days, then you were considered good, and it was pretty accurate too. But I doubt that's coming back, especially since they want to prioritize fast game queues.
As far as people making videos of them clowning killers. Yeah, when Ayrun makes those videos of him using "best xxx" builds, he has to play for days to get that right footage. He's said this himself and it's why he gets burned out making them. Sure it makes him look good, but it's not how it really is.
-
Not good for newer players, but I've been running them.
Moment of Glory, Exultation, Appraisal, and Ace in the Hole/Smash Hit/Any Means.
Eyes of Belmont is fun in an aura build like EoB/OoO/Scene Partner/Alert. Sometimes I switch out Alert for Dramaturgy. It's a good build if you're decent at running or maybe EoB/Head On/Strength in Shadows/Lucky Star.. although the last few games, I switched out EoB for Wicked and that's been pretty funny.
I play with friends though. Sometimes without comms, but still.. YMMV if you go solo with them.

Are you a dad? I don't know what's worse... the dirt related dad jokes, or the fact it got a giggle out of me. From my experience, the biggest thing plaguing solo queue right now is their teammates trying to kill themselves on first hook. In my matches tonight, played as a 2 man SWF and I'd say it was like half my matches where someone is giving up a hookstate before we have a chance to rescue.
I like running a complete loadout of aura reading perks, so MOST matches… I have an idea of what's going on. Most of the wasted hookstates though are completely unprompted. Kindred+open handed shows me the killer left...
I am! Proud father of 2. Maybe I should adopt you because they never giggle at my jokes and that stings a little.
I don't know what BHVR can do to stop people from giving up on the hook. I don't think penalizing survivors is the answer because they're not addressing anything. And who knows what reasons people have for DCing or giving up on hook. Everyone has at least one reason as to why they'd leave. I have one. Mine is that I don't like games that last a long time. 30 minute games? Yeah, that's 2018. I don't think so in 2024. Guess what I faced the second night I came back and my friends purposely 3-genned us so I could see what would happen. First time I ever faced a Skull Merchant, and I want it to be the last. The funny thing is that when I tried her to get my achievements, she seemed fine. Right as rain. But holy ######### she's ######### annoying to vs. It's like going against knockout Freddy from 2017. Yeah, we could win, but do I want to invest that much time when it will just be a slog of an experience? It's faster to just go next. I'm not mad about it. I just don't want to bother. Now, I know this isn't the same thing because whatever I do, my group has to agree with. I feel for solo queue because they don't have the luxury of communicating anything mid-match.
I'd like BHVR to try to figure out what people find unfun, and at the very least, be open for discussion. It's one of the things I get on BHVR about because they really do just the bare minimum to satiate the unruly, and because their presence is so minor, it gives off the "they don't care" vibe— even if untrue. Maybe have a popup window that asks why players DCd or gave up on hook with easy to crunch multiple choice questions. Do they still do surveys? How about asking what people find disappointing about the game and expand on it. Make the focus about giving up. However, they gather that data, they should then talk about it. Let the customers know how the devs feel and what they're going to do and not do. How do you solve the problem without first asking questions? They're not doing that and I find that pretty sad. It's like the most basic thing. Meanwhile, there are players that want to put the blame for their problems on something, and so we have what we have now — us vs them — because there's not enough open dialogue between BHVR and its community. Maybe they have data that shows that the DC or dying-on-hook is a very trivial problem. Maybe they don't want to admit to the problem because it will show flaws in their pie chart. Maybe they don't want to highlight a negative and make it worse. Who knows, but they should at least give something a go.
I'll give an example of one thing (not related to giving up on hook) that BHVR can do that could show they're listening. Killers complain all the time about survivors waiting at the gate until the very last second. Why is this still a thing? That dracula iri that does the hellfire plumes is really freaking cool. Why not have that as a brown addon for ALL killers that activates after a certain time. Maybe another brown addon that adds permanent bloodwarden after a certain time. Of course certain conditions have to be met before these activate, but I know they can work around that if they really thought about it. Or how about this- staying at the exit gate drains their BP and transfers it to a vial that the killer receives post-match. There's so much they can do and it's a shame they're so preoccupied doing other, money-making things. Business is business, but man, I think they're a little out of touch.

It might not be a nothing burger, but it's still making a mountain out of a mole hill. Even if the BP incentive is in place on survivor, the killer wait time is still fine. I could see cause to worry if we had extensive 10+ minute waits... but we don't. There's room for improvement for sure, but let's be real... the game has seen worse.
This is an argument.
"Y'all will scrape for any excuse to cry the game is dead", isn't, when the OP clearly didn't say that. It's not black and white.
I get that the killer wait time is fine, but to be fair, they loosen region and MMR restrictions to get it that way. Nobody I currently play with has less than 5k hours. We're going against sub 300 hour killers from Asia, in the off hours when killer bonuses are in effect. We have to make up rules to keep it fair and fun. The other times are players that really push us to try so I can imagine what that would do to a solo queue lobby.
You're right about the game being worse before. That was the beginning of 2017, killer— all the way. The game almost died. It's nowhere near that, but here's my mountain— the situation seems to have flipped roles to solo queue survivor. Maybe that's a mole hill out of a dirt clod, but I think you get the sediment.

The 2nd paragraph of the OP.
"if the player imbalance is so bad that there are not enough survivors to fill games even at peak survivor hours, i seriously fear for the future of this game"
It goes on to say things don't look good for the game's future
He's not "Y'all will scrape for any excuse to cry the game is dead."-ing. That's why I asked that because I think that's an extreme take, and it tries to invalidate the guy's concern. And I find it to be a curious, but grayish truth, at least since I came back from my break. I do get killer bonuses late at night, but it doesn't last as long as it did before— and this is after 2v8 and before DLC. Player burnout and wigglywomp pre-dlc drop nonsense? I don't know, but it's a funny coincidence nonetheless. It's only made worse lately because people want to play the dracula killer so as always, time will tell. But I already know that DBD isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
OP may have a pessimistic outlook based on his observation, but obviously he likes the game and wants it to do well. I think these posts are good for BHVR to see. He's not being a dick about it and is letting people know his view on the state of the game. It gives people a topic to stand with or argue against, and at the very least it can give BHVR a better view of morale on the forum front. But to try to dismiss it as a nothing burger? Please.

Isn't it still possible to find players IP? Thats why many were using VPN when the news came out a while back.
Yeah, but it's not nearly as easy. Frankly I don't know how to do it, but I know it was a thing a couple years ago. Back when it was P2P, anyone could check with a simple command. And with how petty some people can be, I think it was a safe move.. albeit ######### at the same time, for us.
Edit- Also, ask anyone how it was to face huntress back then, and it was bliss. One of my favorite killers to vs. ######### that these days. You have to hope they're not VPNing or are really close to the servers.
-
This isn't new. Ever since dedicated servers were implemented, I've been queueing into Asian servers from the west coast in the off-hours. It's very annoying and one of the reasons why I stopped playing solo. I've been asking for region filters for years. I'd rather wait 10 minutes than go next.

You know the game used to have peer 2 peer matchmaking? So as killer ud have survivors closest to u match to ur lobby so ping would be much less of an issue.

They had to change it because it was a big security risk. You could see everyones' IP via CMD.

This is something in their being and it won't get fixed without a lot of rehabilitation. FYI..I posted this before the new killer came out. Also 95% of my matches..,not the dark lord. I honestly think survivor is so miserable…fewer are playing. I know my swf team…all left. So now I try to play killer more.... difficult because the BP is mostly survivor these days. Bring back 2v8. Nuff said
Yeah. It's getting harder to consistently field a group of guys to play. During 2v8, usually there were at least 8 that would be on, then when we played the PTB, nothing really grabbed us. There are a few survivor builds that are fun, like evolving the flashlight and aura builds, but… well anyway, it's been a pretty tepid release and while we still play, there are only 2-4 willing to play DBD every night. And even then we split between R6 Siege or CS. Since I came back we only did a few all night sessions in DBD. Solo or duo survivor is out of the question, and playing killer is kind of a joke, so I hope that lights out mode will be good because I missed it last time… although I'm not all too excited about it since my friends didn't have nice things to say about it. Haha.
It's sad, because I came back hoping it would be more of the same ol', but it's definitely not— mainly because most of my DBD friends have moved on. 2v8 duo killers was a lot of fun. I hope they bring that back.
-
Yeah. This was known in PTB. Maybe it won't be so bad.
-
Maybe it was the same nemesis changing names.
-
I like the idea, but not because "Survivors can do it so why can't I?" No, that's silly. I like it because there should be an opt out button if all of one side agrees and no harm done, right? Like there's plenty of times when I'm playing and I've got the crappiest build, but then I'm forced to play harder because I realize the other side is using something really strong. Not too bad if you're SWF, but if you're ######### around as killer or are solo, then it can get bad.
You get 3 mulligans a night and if you feel you need another, just call it and come back another day. Or, maybe if they just implement a mode - a casual mode - where the rules are a little looser and maybe the win conditions are more relaxed, maybe that's all you'd need. I don't ever have to play with meta perks, have to 4k or escape to have fun and I know I'd be down to play that, even solo.
-
I don't normally get involved in console happenings, but I think this is really insensitive for BHVR to take the stance they can't help, considering all the things they do to show they care, like the inclusivity, equality stuff and all. They can help, but it might cost a little somethin-somethin to get it done— as in manpower hours. I think exceptions can be made for an honest, yet costly mistake and if a person or persons have a lot of money invested in the game, or if they put a crap ton of hours into it, don't you think it would be a show of good will to help die-hard customers and fans in this situation? It's not like they were doing something malicious like hacking, exploiting, or gaming the system in some way.
I find the whole thing pretty damn shameful. Good luck, Kanadeez.
-
Don't nobody remember this dude? Man.
-
I always thought BP for gens was so low because survivors would camp gens and run gen rushing perks.
-
Well I suppose you take your chances, but I use nVidia filters and have been using it since coming back, and that was maybe 5 or 6 weeks ago now. I don't plan on stopping until I get something a little more official. At one point there was some type of promotion between BHVR and nVidia for their filters, so I'll keep using it.
-
If I'm going to play vs bots, I'd rather it just be a single player game where I set specific rules, parameters, modes, etc. A single player DBD could be fun if we could mod it and balance it ourselves. I would not play 1+3v1.

I don't think you can get away from that. But I think BHVR can make it worth people's while by incentivizing the use of the other perks. Give them a BP bonus or make a leaderboard for most wins while using a particular non-meta perk. People would eat that crap up. I would.

So, in what percentage of games would you estimate at least 3 survivors escape?
Whatever BHVR says. When my team plays for fun? Maybe 60 percent of the time. When we play for real, a lot higher than that. But we haven't done that in a long time because it's boring as #########.
I don't know how much survivors were escaping when I still played killer a couple years ago, but it low. I know that it would be very different if I went against my own team and they played for real.
-
If you want fun statistics, then you can believe whatever number BHVR tells you, but it's not data based on real skill. Most people are doing challenges or dailies and/or using non-meta perks. Meaning: they're not playing for real. Now they may want to win, but they're not playing 100. Y'know? Most games should be thrown out of that data pool, but they're not. Like, all those people that consider this a casual game. Yeah, throw those games out because they're not playing for real.
I think the number BHVR is counting is a bit relaxed and isn't a true indication of how people would really play, unless there was a real reason to do it.
-
I agree. It's pretty annoying and really gets in the way. I wish it were a smaller banner that flashed on the top or just somewhere else. That big window doesn't need to be so obtrusive like that. How about after you exit the match screen and are at character select?

But I just HAD a long break before I came back to 2vs8. xD
I guess I should have never played 2vs8 in the first place, now I can´t go back to 1vs4 because it feels so sweaty and competetive.
It was a huge mistake to try that mode. :/
Yeah, but you can also stop playing completely.
Edit- I'll add that the tunneling, camping, and will even include overall unfun mechanics.. those won't end. The devs can't stop players wanting to win. Unfortunately as a solo queue survivor, it's not a great experience if you really want to win. So I get when you express yourself about not having fun. Feedback is good for the devs to hear, but ultimately this is the state of the game and sure, they can address it if they want— there's always hope for that, but I'm not holding my breath at all.
2v8 will be back again, or at least some other modes will that can make the game more casual.
-
It's very easy. Take a break. I did, for over a year and a half and find it fun again because of the crapload of perks I had to figure out. And some of them are pretty goofy so that helped a lot, like bardic inspiration and background player, the gen time reduction perks, and combining all the dumb ones like mirrored illusion, wiretap, and red herring, etc. Especially helps if you have a good team to play with. I pretty much play exclusively SWF these days and it's a very different experience than solo. At the very least, if you still want to play, don't play to win. Just use uncommon loadouts to see if you can get them to work. But I say, take a break. There's nothing wrong with leaving a game if you don't enjoy it any more. I encourage it. Don't you have a backlog? That's what I did when I was gone. I finished somewhere in the vicinity of 50 games and cleared mine all out.
2v8 was a good mode for people like you and I hope it comes back soon.
-
Well with a good SWF, you can run virtually anything, even nothing at all. We just have to figure out his loadout. In solo queue, I usually like to bring the escape key and leave match button perks. Very OP and practically an exploit.
-
Well let's be honest. If you're not killing them and they get a lot of BP, yeah, they'll kiss your ass in end chat for not killing them. Haha. I mean c'mon.
-
I don't know if you're checking to see if they're a SWF or what, but many times, you can go against a group of solos that can appear to be a team just because they know what to do. Before crossplay was a thing, you'd run across a lot of the same solo players that had a reputation for being good and if you were a killer, you'd be like, ah #########, I already lost. And if you were a survivor you'd be like ok, this guy knows his #########. And a lot of times you'd get a full lobby of good survivors you'd know. That's when you'd bust out the BPS.
In any case, I'm all for matchmaking to pair people using meta perks and addons with other people using the same strong counterparts.
-
Let me just say that it is very easy to read the writing on the wall.

Would be cool for Chaos shuffle though... would.mean someone who gets a dreadful build gets extra rewards for sticking the game out.
Yeah, I thought about that, and the devs can probably filter out the perks that were specifically picked or chose to play normally. Though I wonder how this would affect their data gathering for kill rates. Maybe have this incorporated in a seasonal event, tome or something special.

It did take a little adjusting to get back into it, but just a couple games, then it was back to normal. Although I can't say interest will last. My friends and I came back to try out the mode. We did try PTB and ehhh. it didn't wow us so I hope 2v8, or some other mode that plays faster, comes back soon. And for god's sake, in the next 2v8, give survivors something cool to do, like throw rocks at killers or even our own teammates. Something.

Seriously, it’s like excuse me for playing fair but I’m the bad person because of your poor sportsmanship.
You say GG on the field, you don't follow them into their locker room and say it. Doing what you did truly was poor form. It's ok to not know this, but gads man, you know now.

There's an overly optimistic side of me that knows there's something very cool in the works to make it all work. Eventually.

When I was playing killer, I would get it at least once every other night. Maybe more depending how I played. Sometimes as little as an EZ, even if they were the only one to escape by hatch, or a full on 5 minute ######### you session from a 4 man. You get used to it. Especially since you would often run against them the very next game and mori them np. EZ DC. It got better because of crossplay but that's only because consolers couldn't say anything. Good times.
