  • I'm in a position right now where grade reset put me at 2.5 mil (i was capped before the reset happened). I have nothing I'd want to spend bloodpoints on right now so if I play I won't get any BP unless I spend most of it. I'd rather save them for when the new update comes out so I can prestige.

So in my specific situation, I'd say even 2 mil isn't enough. It's a start, but realistically 3-5 mil is probably a better cap to set it at. BHVR is always a bit behind when it comes to catching up with the bloodpoint economy, it took them forever to increase the grade reset rewards to 1 mil per survivor/killer.

There's not much of a reason to have a cap now anyway. When new DLC comes out people will already have most perks on the new characters due to the new prestige system, so all they'll gain is trying to get bloody cosmetics and perk charms.. which isn't that big of a deal. Besides, people take the best routes in their tomes to save bloodpoints for the next dlc, and they save bloodpoints obtained through Twitter codes. Might as well increase the cap even more

  • Most people probably only care for the cosmetics. Charms look ok on killers but it's a crapshoot if they look any good on survivors due to scaling issues. Half the time they're so tiny on survivors that you can't really see details anyway, most of the good charms are from the level 70 rifts or level 4 tomes. When it comes to charms with a little emblem printed on them.. you can't usually see the details unless they're on a hook.

It's odd that BHVR hasn't teased the outfits yet, all we've seen is concept art so far

  • Yeah I feel like the new prestige system was more balanced in the PTB. The solution to completely balance it after they changes they made is pretty easy, add additional prestige levels based on how many perk tiers you have and uncap the prestige levels for people that hit P3 and have all max perks. That way you're satisfying everyone.

The problem is, if the update is less than a week away I'm not sure if they have enough time. This was all done last minute.. I'm hoping the update is in 2 weeks to give them more time to make adjustments. This is not an update they want to mess up, otherwise they'll risk getting steam review bombed like when they made the UI changes that most people hated. It's probably the biggest update they've ever done

  • @david_king said:

This sounds like a "I didn't put in any time or effort towards my characters and the thought or others who did getting a reward isn't fair!" Like you had the same opportunity everyone else did? Why are you upset if devotion was rewarded? If anything this sounds more whiny to me than the people requesting something to recognize their work.

Yeah it's basically complaining about someone that complains, which always sounds more whiny. If people want bragging rights, let them give their feedback. BHVR heavily implied the whole prestige system was for bragging rights anyway, including the P3 reward. They have a right to complain. Trying to shut them down is just weird to me. Let them speak.

  • lmao "wasn't bad in the slightest" "only time i got downed was with noed".

That was an immediate contradiction, good nurses will never use noed period, unless they're using some weird meme build or messing around.

  • To the people that keep saying "does it matter?". The answer is it matters to BHVR, otherwise BHVR wouldn't have capped it. Also BHVR designed the new prestige system with bragging rights in mind, it's why you can see everyone's prestige number on the post score screen. So BHVR WANTS your prestige level to matter. But to answer OP's question, yes they basically gave people that put in the most effort into the game the middle finger. I was satisfied with being P12 on my characters and wasn't expecting anything more than that.. but now we get less for doing more lol.

If I had to guess, it's possible BHVR capped it in case they had plans to add more rewards after P9, but even then I feel like if people put thousands of hours into the game to max out perks then those rewards that are planned are well deserved for those people so it shouldn't be capped. And if it's just a number with no planned rewards? Even less of a reason for there to be a cap.. the max without a cap is 15 anyway which is very far away from 100, no one would be anywhere close to the post-update cap.

  • If they really want to nerf medkits so badly, they don't need to nerf an average healing perk to do it. They could've just made it so that the healing speed doesn't apply when you use a medkit, I'd rather have that over reducing medkit efficiency.. but overall I'd rather go back to the old botany. There was nothing wrong with old botany. It wasn't a frequently used perk and now they gutted it.

Imagine using botany and looting a chest to find a brown medkit.. which you can't even fully heal yourself with anymore because of the item efficiency reduction

  • @Bwsted said:

They don't just remove something brand new like that. They can tweak it, but not completely remove it after they just added it. That would be like them admitting that they were wrong and there was no reason to put it into the game to begin with.

Kinda like the cap to the prestige catch-up mechanic that they just added lmao. This whole thing reminds me of the UI changes that they added a while ago that they refused to revert. They still didn't revert the changes, but they finally improved it after the game got review bombed on steam lol. I'm predicting the same might happen this time with how much this new update changes things

  • Also agreed. I have 10k hours in DBD and this is the first time I feel like I'm being discouraged to play. I'm not even asking for much, they're just prestige levels. Pretty much asking for the bare minimum for the effort I put into getting everyone to P3 with max perks before the update. Please uncap it so that prestige levels are distributed equally

If there's no reward beyond P9 why cap the catch-up? There's no difference between a P3-1 and P3-50 all perks now. Don't want us reaching P100 within the first decade or something?

Yeah it's silly, I think if left uncapped people would max out at P15 which is still pretty far away from 100. The cap makes no sense to me

I see... I am sorry that you will see number 9 instead of number 12. Maybe they can still uncap it for you.

It's better to receive something for your efforts than nothing, is it not? I hope they don't give you negative prestige levels

Don't be jealous... Hopefully you were playing for fun...

It's not "jealousy". I don't mind people getting P9 from being P3 before the update. It's just BHVR being stingy and capping the prestige when we were told we'd be getting P12 if we had P3 + max perks that makes it frustrating, and they tell us this a week before the update is coming out lol so there isn't much time for it to be fixed.

I guess it depends on what one considers a "waste." They still have everything they've gained from all those hours of grinding. I don't really see it as a big deal since you're not losing any functionality in the game; the "prestige" number beyond level 9 is just bragging rights. They'll probably continue to play for many hours and level up quickly.

I mean yeah, you'll keep any items and addons, along with any generic perks.. but every other perk that was grinded for is a waste. As for if they'll play for many hours after this, that's subjective. I'm not feeling very encouraged to play if my efforts were wasted the first time lol, pretty much learned my lesson. The solution is simple, uncap the prestige levels so that they're fairly distributed based on how much effort was put into grinding.. or just revert it to the old catch up system which I haven't seen anyone complain about

It's true that prestige levels are mostly just bragging rights, but that's what BHVR turned the system into since there are currently no rewards for anything after P9.

i have P3 50 and 107 perks on 3 survivors, i will go to P9 lvl 50, right? i dont worry about, because i spend BP in different people, but, its a quite unfair for main people, like Coconout, he has 5000 + ADD on his Huntress, so, he will be P9 too, so...

Yeah it's actually insane that they're making this change. I have everyone P3 + max perks and I'll be P9 which is the same prestige that everyone else will be that got to P3 with no perks.. The old catch up mechanic was more fair to people that put in more time and effort.

That's literally thousands of hours of effort wasted because they decided to cap the prestige levels

  • Really not liking the change made to the prestige catch-up mechanic. It rewards people the most that get to P3 without going for any perks.. But people that got P3 + max perks get screwed because it's now capped at P9. I prefer the system before because I at least got 3 extra prestige levels for having max perks, which put me at P12. Odd that they're making this change when it's so close to the release of the update and people already made plans on how to level previously

  • This is confusing me as well. Does this mean if you had P3 with max perks before the update you'll only be P9 after the update? If that's how it works, this change is actually worse than before and doesn't make sense for anyone that put in more time and effort

  • I've noticed this while watching a friend stream killer. She played multiple different killers and 4kd every single game (except for when survivors get hatch). Almost every survivor was bad and that shouldn't have been possible if she was getting so many 4ks. It was pretty crazy so I told her to go for some adept achievements and she got them first try (even at Iri grade) because the survivors were bad. I think she only lost 1 game from the past few days of watching her stream.

    @amazing_grace said:

It could be that more experienced players have taken a break. The anniversary event ended last week, so a lot of people could be going on a hiatus with their flans. I've noticed a dip in my teammate's experience as well, and I've gotten a couple of survivors from killer side who didn't seem totally aware of their surroundings.

That is possible. I have no motivation to play because I'm waiting for the update and new rift to go live to give me something to do. I grinded like hell during the event so I'm kind of exhausted now lol.

  • Freddy isn't just bad, he's obsolete now. I don't see a reason to play him besides him being a licensed character and playing him because he's licensed. Dredge is the superior version of Freddy in every way. Superior teleport, superior anti-loop, and top it off with nightfall and there's no good reason to play Freddy anymore. I guess Freddy does have fake pallets, but if a survivor is smart they'll figure out which pallets are real

I think it'd help if most of Freddy's addons weren't garbage now. Personally I'd rather his abilities be completely changed but that likely won't happen since they've done that once before

  • I mean.. even Deathgarden players got rewarded more than this.

"Players who purchased the original Deathgarden before today’s Deathgarden: BLOODHARVEST launch will receive two Legacy Cosmetics, a VIP flair, and a transfer of all earned exclusive cosmetics with a bonus currency pack based on their original Deathgarden player level."

They got a similar crappy flair as well, but along with legacy cosmetics and currency

I was actually p13 on ptb. Never underestimate my addiction to curve Billy and the neverending grind of engravings.

That shouldn't have been possible. You'd need max perks + P3 before the update to get to P13 on the PTB. Unless you mean that you were P6 and grinded to P13 which is possible but seems like it'd take a while. All of my characters were P11-P12 (P3/some had max perks, some were close to max before PTB)

  • The artist skin is really cool and makes me wanna play her more. The charms are also very cute, I'd use them as long as they aren't too small on survivors. The yui outfit, as other people have said looks like a rehashed version of one of Nea's outfits. It doesn't look terrible but I would never grind the rift to get that.

I preferred the Yui outfit that lost to the Claudette streetwear outfit 1-2 years ago. It was more casual and fit her model more. I'm guessing it's probably not allowed for people to resubmit entries that lost in previous contests? It deserves to be added to the game IMO.

  • If you've played bot matches enough (the tutorial), you can see the bots doing something really similar to macro clicking. I had a bot match one time where the bot clicked at the killer at macro speeds. It was hilarious, it even looked like the bot was trying to get the killers attention lmao

  • I've got 919 on killer and 941 on survivor. I made sure to spread them out on each character more during this event so everyone has a little bit of flan. I think this is the first event I saved a ton of offerings on survivors, I usually spend most of them before the event is over. I guess this time was different because they're removing the BP bonuses from bbq/wglf so I felt that there was no better time to stock up

  • @Bwsted said:

When they recoded Nurse a few months ago the add-ons got bugged.

Then they fixed the part about extra charge time not being accounted for, but missed the extra speed which was never part of the effects when she had gotten her add-on pass way back.

So, they either don't want to admit they forgot to patch it the first time around, or they don't know how to, like so many other bugs.

Or, they genuinely believe that range add-ons needed a buff even though they were even banned in comp when they weren't bugged. This wouldn't surprise me from BHVR. What would surprise me is that they didn't simultaneously nerf Pig while buffing the strongest killer in the game.

If you look at the bug reports about her range addons.. They got marked as "intended and not a bug" which is ridiculous IMO. At this point it doesn't matter if it's intended or not, the addons are OP and need to be nerfed. Nurse is strong enough as it is and doesn't need the benefit of faster blinks

Can you point me to the exact place in the patch notes?

It is obviously not this, because it only grants 1 new Prestige level for each old one and that is not reflected in the ptb:

Existing players will have their characters granted prestige levels in the new system based on the following:

    • 1 level per existing Prestige level (maximum of 3)

It's exactly in the part you quoted. You get 1 additional prestige level for each prestige level you had before the PTB. So P1 = P2, P2 = P4, P3 = P6. It's reflected in the PTB. I can understand how it might be confusing, as it confused me at first too

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3039838#Comment_3039838

Is this a fact, that Prestige 1 Chars are prestige 2 after the update? I was under the impression that this is a bug on the ptb. Old prestige levels are counted double. All Information on this topic is welcome.

It's not a bug. it's in the patch notes

  • If all you care about is getting to P3 in the update, just get everyone to P1 level 50. They'll all end up being P2 level 50 in the update and you can instantly get to P3 by spending 50k bloodpoints per character. That's the quickest and cheapest way to do it. You also don't lose any addons or offerings this way.

  • After hitting prestige level 9, the only reason I would prestige again is for high rarity items, and the easiest way to get those is with the level 50 bloodwebs. So unless new rewards are added as an incentive for P10+, the low cost bloodwebs are actually entirely pointless for someone like me.

However, I do like the low level bloodweb system for any prestige level before P9 because my goal would be to get the rewards as cheaply as possible, so items and addons would be secondary at that point. It's similar to how I prestige in the current system, I go for the cheapest costing items until I hit P3 to get the bloody cosmetics cheaply and once I'm done I start stocking up on more expensive items/addons

So.. what Peanits is saying does make sense and he has a point, but that only lasts until you hit P9. If rewards are never added beyond that point then the cheaper bloodwebs lose value.

You'll get the same treatment when you can forcibly remove the Haddie mask from other people's accounts such that BHVR won't be able to tell which players lost the mask.

This. There were 2 reasons that BHVR gave that set of cosmetics away to everyone.

    1. The reason which you've mentioned, people lost their event earned cosmetics and BHVR couldn't give them back to everyone even after multiple attempts of trying, so it was easier to just give them away to everyone.. including people that didn't earn them

    2. Some cosmetics were exclusive to conventions and stuff, so people were selling them for hundreds of dollars on eBay. BHVR claimed that they didn't want people to get scammed, but they probably just didn't want others profiting off of them so they made them free to everyone

There's literally no reason for BHVR to give new event cosmetics away for free eventually because these issues no longer exist. At best you'll see them available in the store for shards or maybe they'll show up in another event, but I have my doubts

  • @BlackRabies said:

Watched a few streamers if you have all perks possible on a character you should be going straight to prestige 11.

The only reason you should prestige now would be for the portrait thing you'll be getting if they're already P3. Which imo doesn't look that great suppose to be gold with some sparkles, but it kinda looks like plague puked on everyone then dipped in piss.

Best to hold off until then if you wanna keep everything.

If you were P3 with max perks before the PTB went live you'll be P12 on the PTB. I was missing a few (like 3-6) perks on most characters on my June 20th save (the one used for the PTB) and as a result most of my characters were P11. The few that I had max perks on were P12. All of my characters were P3 originally. They were also all level 50, meaning I could instantly prestige again

  • Green glyphs are really easy to find as killer but take forever as survivor. I've had many matches as survivor in a full SWF where I only find 1 or no green glyphs at the end of the match, even when the EGC triggers I often don't see any auras and everyone else in my group didn't take any of them. But if I play killer? I find like 6 in one match lol. So it just taught me to keep my expectations low as a survivor and just play killer if I want to finish it fast.

I prefer white glyphs personally, they're super easy to do AND give a bloodpoint bonus if you leave the match with it (which you can just drop it and come back for it later at the end of the match)

I think this is incredibly disingenuous.

Most players do not math out their most efficient route to spend their BP in order to get all perks on one character from the moment they start playing. They simply want to start playing.

They'll try out different characters, get a feel for the game first. They'll maybe ask what the best survivors to start with are and level up Claudette, Meg and Dwight, and then they'll branch out, maybe picking up David, Bill and Laurie for the meta perks everyone is telling them to run. But then they'll have a bunch of survivors with a mismatch of perks, and in order to use the right perks they'll need to play a bit of each survivor.

They might have to play Meg because she's got both Sprint Burst and Borrowed Time, plus a bunch of BP offerings to use, so they invest some more BP into Meg to round her out into a viable survivor. But then it turns out Meg doesn't have Self Care, so they go and play a bit of Claudette, invest a little BP in her to make her viable, and what do you know! Claudette has Dead Hard now! That's much better than Sprint Burst! So on and so on until you end up with a bunch of survivors with more than 50 bloodweb levels.

This is how normal players play the game. Levelling survivors is, was, an organic process, not a regimented BP spending protocol. If this is how your robot brain works, YOU are the outlier.

And with how teachables are now unlocked, this process won't be afflicted by bad bloodweb RNG forcing you to play certain survivors because of their perks. NOW you might be able to follow a more efficient levelling regimen because all survivors will have all the perks you've unlocked. NOW you have that freedom.

I not only agree with your post.. but I agree with your post as someone with about 10k hours on PC that ended up playing 100 hours on PS5 when I got one this year for the hell of it. You know what I did on PS5? Something very similar to what you described. First started off leveling David and Bill for the meta perks, but I hate playing either of those characters so I switched to Feng because I like how she looks (but I also like Lithe occasionally). Ended up leveling them all until they had decent perks on them (except David that I left at 35 because I don't want no mither on my characters). Then I switched to Dwight to get bond/prove thyself and Meg just because I had the Amazon prime outfit lol. In the end I leveled them all until they were playable with perks that I wanted to use.

This is coming from someone that has seen everything the game has had to offer and has all characters at P3 + max perks on PC. MOST people will dabble a bit with each character that they own to get a feel for the perks and the grind has been a massive reduction for most people in general. However, even for people like me.. there's still going to be things to grind for because of the charm rewards at P7-9, but that will depend on how many levels we get with the catch-up mechanic.

  • @SlowLoris said:

Ah, okay. I just wanted to make sure, I just don't want to lose all my engravings, because...yeah Billy is suffering without them. But yeah, was hoping if I had enough bp invested that they'd insta hit like P9 it'd still count, but I guess not.

    Thanks all.

I doubt you'd get to P9. If you were P3 and had max perks then it's possible you could get to P9. But no prestige and max perks shouldn't be anywhere close to that. I'm P3 and max perks with every character and the best I'm hoping for is P9 once the update goes live. Either way you've still gotta hit P3 before the update goes live if you want the emblem.

Keep in mind that after P9 there's no reward for prestiging, so it'd be really weird if they let you get the best rewards for never prestiging at all

  • You have to be P3 before the midchapter goes live if you want the emblem

I mean I would count it. It's a skin that completely changes her into another character. I would agree for something like the Alessa skin because that's just Heather wearing a different person's clothes. Plus survivors are basically all skins anyways.

Yeah I consider James as a character. Just not an original one.

If BHVR goes through the trouble of adding unique voice overs, animations, character portraits, and it even shows a different character name in the lobby, then it's a character and not just a skin

  • Survivors make me give up hope far more than killers ever have. I'm looking at you, Cheryl.. the random that killed herself the first 10 seconds into the game because we got a nurse. It makes the game a 3v1 so we all get screwed after that. Please, I get it nurse is challenging to go against for some people, especially with her bugged range addons.. but don't give up completely. At least attempt to play the game, otherwise you'll never get better at it

  • @Nicholas said:

I don't understand the system's existing players' changes. What happens to a simple P3 character? What happens to a P3 Legendary (has all perks at T3 from every character)? What happens to L50 without any Prestige done to them?

So if you Prestige someone in the future, P1 unlocks T1 perks of that character for everyone, and P2 and P3 unlock T2 and T3, respectively. P4-6 unlocks that character's bloody cosmetic pieces, and P7+ is just for fun?

So if you have any L50 characters that you didn't prestige, you will need to P3 them to unlock all of their perks for future characters?

What are existing users getting exactly that new prestige won't receive? A special emblem/icon? Thanks.

P7-P9 gives you charms (based on the design for the perks for that character)

  • @Lavernne said:

If you leveled your character to P3 and all perks, does the "all perks" part also give you additional prestige levels?

Hopefully it should, I haven't seen anyone from BHVR confirm it though, and the wording in the article is vague. Would make no sense for it not to though. I've been trying to max out everyone during the event for the extra prestige levels.

  • If this game became free to play.. I feel like the variety of things that you could buy with free currency (shards) would be massively reduced. Look at what happened to fall guys after it got bought by epic and converted to f2p: You can't buy anything decent with free currency anymore and they expect you to buy everything with real money.

If DBD went free to play I would expect it to become even more grindy, prices on characters to be raised (or they wouldn't offer the option to buy new DLC with shards), or reduce the selection of what cosmetics we can buy with them.

I know that there's a big grind for shards, but that's kind of the point.. BHVR would prefer that you pay real money. I'm happy with the current state it's in because they're still offering ######### that I actually want and can obtain with free currency. I just hope they keep doing double XP event regularly

  • I think he's the easiest killer I've learned to play. Everything about him is pretty simple to learn, even his teleport while looping. I wouldn't say his skill ceiling is low though, there's still strategy in when and where you should teleport, but all of his mechanics are pretty easy to understand and capitalize on.

Also if you want easy mode with Dredge just use make your choice + floods of rage. I downed people like 6-7 times in one match last night while they were exposed, pretty ridiculous combo

  • There's also gonna be WGLF endurance bodyblocking. I know it's more minor and you technically have to earn WGLF stacks.. but endurance seems to be a huge theme with this update

  • The only reason I can think of for the self care change is they don't want people to use self care anymore lol. I think the better solution would've been to change the perk entirely so that it does something else.

I'm worried that as a side effect of this change.. noobs will still continue to use it because it's a perk that requires no thinking to use, so in that way it makes it more convenient.. even if it is incredibly slow

Because the usage stats are from the last year, and Circle of Healing came in half-way through the year. If you just looked at the stats from CoH's release onward, you'd see a very different story.

It's also a very popular perk on asia servers from what I've heard. I was very surprised to hear that from one of my Korean friends. None of my friends have been using that perk for 2-3 years. Better off using a medkit, bond, or CoH.

Personally I think self care should've been changed into a completely different perk

I'm doing the same. Getting at least a small stack on all my survivors and killer. On ones I play regularly I've wound up with quite a few. It's unfortunate that on most of the trials during the event they're just wasted, so I'm holding on to them for nostalgia later. :(

I've had pretty good luck during this event than last year's. It helps playing in a full swf too. I get 100k+ almost every game, with the occasional bad match where I get less.. or the matches where the killers DC even with 5 flan

  • I've been using the event to max out (P3/max perks) my dredge and haddie. Just maxed them both out, have 400 flan on dredge, 250ish on haddie. 100 on feng, trying to get 100 on kate and mikaela now.

If the killer gets no hooks or only one hook, I try to encourage my group to start giving the killer free hooks at the end. It works sometimes and the killer goes along with it. Other times.. well we end up getting facecamped and the game goes downhill. You can never really trust that the killer wants the same thing, sometimes they take out their frustration on you. But I still try to give hooks occasionally if the killer has a bad game.. especially with 5 flan/cakes. But being friendly doesn't always pay off on either side

  • If it's giving you the reward (as survivor) before the hatch opens or gates are opened.. then something's off and probably bugged. But there have also been plenty of times where people didn't receive a reward after the gates were opened/hatch opened so it's buggy in general I guess
