They should win or lose, yes, but that's rarely how it goes. If the five are equal in skill the killer will more likely win.

I'm not saying they should win every time automatically, I'm saying four people shouldn't be required to all be better than one in order to win. Win doesn't mean 4e. It could be a 3e and the one who dies might be the on-par one. If I, myself, am on par with the killer, my better teammates won't carry me. It's going to be a 1v1 at some point. They might survive but I might die. If you have a 4man and everyone's in a different MMR bracket, and the game throws you a mid killer, those weaker players are still in danger. It's not like they just rat the whole match while the stronger players do everything. This isn't just a party thing either. There's duos and trios too. You don't know when a 3man is quietly carrying your soloing self to victory as well. I think it happens a lot more than people realize.

You also use your teammates as shields, so you're not really in a position to talk about being carried while you take zero aggro and let people die so you alone can escape. They're carrying you without knowing by you refusing to play as a teammate.

If you gain MMR you aren't ready for you'll be in the exact scenario I'm currently in as killer—you'll lose until it goes down. That's how it goes.

People lobby dodge like crazy in soloq, partly because they want to find good team mates then can do the work for them so they get easier wins

You seem to always know exactly why everyone does everything.

well your not the only one that can make assumptions, you assume i do worse than i admit to so i can assume people lobby dodge for that reason.

i often do know when a 3 man is carrying me….because they are my tools to victory…then i walk out the victor. i often know because there is a pregame chat, they do say if they are swf and i use that for my gain. im just curious because you once said swf cant carry people and doesnt make an individual player better…yet you now say that a good team (2 or 3 strong players) can carry the 1 weaker player. Not always, but they can, especially if the killer is going for one of the others when last gen is done and the weaker player opens the gate. That weaker player won, walked out the gate all because the stronger ones were able to keep the killer occupied, that is being carried.

i already hit that mark your in as killer long ago. i turned to tunneling which allowed me to win. it only means you lose until it goes down if you impose your own restrictions on yourself and dont adapt to higher levels.

Those aren't shortcuts, they're just alternate routes. Cutting through the middle of the track, NOT taking those alternate routes you speak of, is cheating.

Tunneling may give you wins, but it also stunts your growth as Killer. You're not improving, you're not learning anything about the game or the Killer you're playing as. When you actually spread the hooks and the pressure, you might lose some games, but that's not intentionally losing, is it? When you stand there and just let the Survivors do their thing, that is intentionally losing. It's not just made up rules, it's ruining the game as a whole, and it needs to be addressed.

    1. alternate routes can be longer or shorter….some paths need a boost to be able to access the shorter route, these by definition are shortcuts, shortest route to the finish line. With this in mind you would be ok with people these alternate routes even if they are shorter than the main track?
    2. i really dont think you can be saying anything about stunting growth as a player when you stunt your growth at every available opportunity by creating your own set of rules. going on your basis anyone using perks or items are stunting their growth, they should be winning matches without these things…relying on them is holding people back.
    3. When a killer knows that spreading hooks is too hard, they have the choice….tunnel and pick up a win or not tunnel and take the loss. choosing to not tunnel is intentionally throwing a win into a loss.
    4. It is made up rules, you have made them up. bhvvr has not made these rules up, you did. bhvr could say tunneling is reportable but they dont because it is allowed. But your rules say it shouldnt be…..your rules based on your opinion. Like i said, you play by your rules if you want but dont expect people to play by your rules, when the killer tunnels you its your own rules you set yourself that limits your ability to counter it. Self imposed. Its like me playing perkless trapper limiting myself to using 1 trap only and then complaining that survivors are op and need to be nerfed because i struggle with the limits i set myself.

This isnt about SWF, it applies to any survivor team, but if you're on par with the killer how is it carrying? It's only being carried if one great teammate somehow brings a team of people worse than the killer to victory, which is unlikely in this game unless the killer over commits, which means they weren't very knowledgeable to begin with.

Using is an interesting word choice, though it suits you well. Idk where one shops for friends in order to find superior teammates. Like, who is actively seeking that out? Most people play with people they like. I can bring up the opposite scenario, where I play with many people who are reckless and usually die and are thus detrimental to my ER.

because being on par mean the should win or lose…not just win because the other team memebers are better. if this is the case then people would win v a killer they are on par with and get higher mmr going against harder killers when they are not ready for that level due to winning off the backs of other members. It makes more sense that the weaker players have equal chance v a killer they are on par with which would mean they win some, they lose some. getting wins just because others are better than the killer is being carried by the team, they dont need to be better than the killer, they can still win….thats being carried.

People lobby dodge like crazy in soloq, partly because they want to find good team mates then can do the work for them so they get easier wins.

Even if I didn't fail, I still would have died, because tunneling is just that busted. Otherwise, the anti-tunnel perks would actually work. And then the Killers would have stopped a long time ago. Tunneling is a cancer that is harming the game as a whole for both roles. If by whatever miracle Survivors are countering your tunneling, then you absolutely deserve to be teabagged at the exit gates.

Use certain items, fine. Shortcuts, no, that's just cheating. It makes no difference if it's technically allowed in the game.

Your previous post stated not tunneling is not losing intentionally….if tunneling is so effective and busted then your actually asking the killer to not use the tactic that gives them wins. Ye i dont think everyone intentionally puts themselves at a disadvantage as you seem to do, thats why killers tunnel, not doing so can put the killer at a disadvantage.

You consider a shortcut in mario kart cheating?? the game has multiple routes players can take lol literally part of the track design and you consider it cheating…wow. If this is how you view pvp games then good luck to you because not many will share your view and they certainly will not follow your requests to play by your made up rules. i think its clear your losses or struggles are self made because you created this imaginary rule book which you follow but not many people will follow your rules. Bottom line is, this is not your game, not your rules. You play how you want but be prepared to lose or not have as much fun due to your own self made rules and restrictions which apply only to you

Your argument boils down to a weak link or lack of coordination which is in essence an issue of matchmaking and lack of comms for solo, on which I agree with you.

Most games are poorly matched. If three survivors are good, one is bad, and the killer is average, the killer is likely to win. Matchmaking shouldn't be what maintains kill rates. The game is beyond broken if everything comes down to bad matchmaking and almost nothing comes down to skill.

Why shouldnt the survivors all have to be better than the killer?

Why should four people be better than one to win? If two are better and two are on the same level they shouod also win. If all five are equal it should be anyone's game. It shouldn't be that the killer just wins unless every other player is more skilled than them.

Also I defend both killer and survivor, check my first comment in this thread. i think that, outside of biased mains, many players also dont care, so your generalization is unnecessary.

Don't care about what? I don't know what you're referencing, nor did I call you a killer main or anything.

Why should four people be better than one to win? If two are better and two are on the same level they shouod also win. If all five are equal it should be anyone's game. It shouldn't be that the killer just wins unless every other player is more skilled than them

This comment says that if 2 survivors are better than the killer and 2 are on par with the killer then they should win…..so someone in SWF could be on par with the killer but they win due to their team mates being better? Would this not be a case of survivors using better team mates to carry them giving them wins?

  • @RaiRu said:

Please look at the unbroken emblem. It kind of goes against the whole teamwork thing when you have to hang back to avoid any glance or whiff of a hook. Should you not get iri unbroken for leaving through the exit gate as a ow the killer tried to break me, but I got free type thingy. It usually doesn't bother me, but some challenges in the tome require iri for completion. Also on the topic of tome challenges. Can you group them up like the quest system? It would be a good source of blood points for new players.

Everything about the game suggests its not only about teamwork….

    1. end match is not scored as a team, there is no team wins or team loses.
    2. BP rewards are not shared as a team, they are personal to individual players.
    3. MMR gain/loss is not based on team win/loss, its personal escape/death.
    4. The hatch, designed to only allow 1 player to escape.
    5. challenges such as cleans totems, escape via hatch, even adepts are not team based, they are personal challenges that may actually conflict with the rest of players goal of escaping.
    6. certain perks are designed around solo players such as sole survivor which gives benefits when others have died.
    7. as you have pointed out, unbroken can be seen as going against teamwork.
    8. soloq not having comms, meaning we are not on the same page, we have our own goals and objectives, plans and tactics.

Yes people CAN work as a team, They CAN help eachother out and it CAN be beneficial in certain situations to work as a team but this is a personal choice. it is not a team, it is 4 players that share the same role….that is all.

Pretty bold to say my skill or stealth failed me without actually seeing it. You're also forgetting that the game is designed so that Killers will get you eventually, regardless of skill. If I shared that match, would you be able to tell me what I should have done better, or just differently? I doubt it.

Stream sniping is quite rare, and pretty impossible to tell is even happening. We can suspect it's happening, sure, but we can never know. Maybe that Nemesis did just follow my pools of blood, and Survivors don't really have a way to hide those, apart from running No Mither.

its bold but true because you were found… stealth means not being found which you failed at. true you never know if people are stream sniping or not, im willing to bet many do and you just dont know about it or you cant prove it. The point is, you intentionally handicapping yourself yet again and dont like it when the killer gets the upper hand….atleast in part, thats on you for willingly and knowingly choosing to put yourself at a disadvantage.

your still avoiding the mario kart question….would you play with random people in a matchmaking and expect them to follow your made up rules? no shortcuts or no using a certain item, because you deem it unfair or unfun. Or any game for that matter…. would you play something like chess and make up rules stating "you cant get checkmate unless all pawns are removed from the board too"? Based on your unwritten rules that you make up, this sounds like somthing a child would ask, it does not sound like something an adult would suggest…. maybe if it was universally agreed upon between friends yes, but v random people? no.

the report thing was only meant for early game tunneling.

With Gen rushing I only meant perk builds and adorns and stuff like that should get nerfed, but at the same time also the slow down perks of killers. And obviously buff a lot of other perks like invocations and so on, good concept but terrible execution.

It just feels like the game forces you to gen rush and simultaneously in reaction forces killers to play slow down. As a survivor most chase perks are only valid against m1 killers while against a nurse for example all chase perks are mostly useless. For example what’s the sprint burst worth it if the nurse is behind you in a second again, same for blight.

I don’t play any gen rushing perks/builds, but as soon it’s a nurse/blight I feel like getting punished for not doing that which does feel frustrating.

people do what they need to do to win. if your deciding to not bring your full arsenal to the table then ye you should lose. your decision to not bring gen rush build is your choice but if the killer is bringing their A game to win and you have intentionally opted to play less efficiently than you could be then ye expect to lose

As others have pointed out in that other thread, that Bubba wasn't very skilled, so it didn't take much skill to loop him. He also wasn't tunneling, so that video did nothing to prove that tunneling was counterable. If that's the average Killer you get, I can see how you'd think it's counterable. If that Bubba was seriously tunneling, he wouldn't have dropped the chase, no matter how much you looped him.

I got hard tunneled by a Nemesis the other day. I looped the hell out of him, but he never dropped the chase. A teammate bodyblocked after my second hook and even got downed, but the Killer ignored him and kept coming after me. I even gained enough distance to try stealth, got into a locker, waited for his terror radius to fade. But he still found me before I could get healed. So either he followed my pools of blood, heard my grunts of pain or maybe even stream-snipped, who knows? In the end, even after all of that, I still died. The teammates escaped though, so good for them. That's the best outcome against a Killer who tunnels, but still not good for the tunneled Survivor.

As for Mario Kart, sure, the CPU opponents aren't going to care if you take shortcuts, so by all means, go wild.

the skill level is irrelevant, the bubba wasnt skilled but neither am i so increase the skill level of both of us and its the same situation. Again the fact he wasnt tunneling is irrelevant because he COULD have tried to tunnel….he may have if he could catch me thats the point, he didnt, he couldnt….how? because he couldnt catch me. If he didnt drop chase he would have ended up losing the match and getting 1k. why would killers use this tactic that loses them the match? they often wouldnt because they use tunneling to win. You know this.

As for the nemesis match your skill level failed you…. or rather your stealth skills failed you. Thats something to work on which would help counter tunneling because if the killer didnt find you then you would have countered the tunneling attempt. If your advertising your streaming then you cant be surprised if they stream snipe, your just making things harder for yourself and you really dont need to. If your going to stream you then expect the killer to be seeing it…. or dont stream if you want to actually want to win.

The mario kart example has nothing to do with cpu opponents, its a multiplayer game….. real people racing eachother so no idea where the cpu point comes from. Would you make up rules like "dont take short cuts" when racing real people? or maybe "dont use the lightning bolt"? This is what you are doing in dbd, playing against real people and giving them your own made up rules on how they should or shouldnt play.

Yeah, we like to struggle, but tunneling even removes that. The tunneled Survivor gets eliminated, and the other three get to push the gens without the struggle. There is no double standard here.

Yes, Killers are supposed to be the power role, but they're not supposed to be My Little Oni.

tunneling is counterable so the only way the survivor gets eliminated is if they are not good enough at stealth, not good enough at looping, not good enough at losing line of sight. You make it sound like tunneling is 100% death for that survivor that gets tunneled but thats not the case at all, i even showed in the bubba match that looping long enough can make the killer either give up chase. Therefor tunneling does not remove the struggling at all. i have been tunneled myself, hard tunneled at 5 gens. i have been able to escape due to team mates doing gens or i have lost line of sight and put a stop to the tunneling forcing the killer to find someone else.

I really do think people need to stop the blame game and take responsibility for their own decision, their own skill, their own role of choice, their own tactics and not expect the opponent to play according to some unwritten rules someone has made up.

Think mario kart for example…if im racing im going to take every shortcut i can. To ask me to race but dont take shortcuts is absurd and something i would expect a child to say. Enough with the unwritten rules.

What "shortcuts" do the Survivors have? Genrushing isn't a shortcut. Spreading hooks puts a stop to that real quick. Tunneling out the first Survivor also puts a stop to that real quick. Slugging everyone puts a stop to that real quick, and then the game is over. What equivalent do the Survivors have?

Killers have no speed ability? They're always faster than Survivors at base, even before bloodlust comes into play. And all those dashing Killers (Blight, Nurse, Wesker, etc.) and all those teleporting Killers would like a word.

once again you are showing double standards by suggesting the fastest way to kill is a shortcut but refusing to acknowledge the equivalent being survivors bringing full gen build and toolboxes being the exact same thing (optimal method of completing the objective).

You using S tier killers to try and prove that killers can just "run faster"? really? there are far more killers with low mobility than there are with high speed and teleport ability.

You also ignoring the core issue, you want killers to not play in a way that is effective yet you never suggest survivors should do the same by playing in a way that is not effective. You seem to disapprove of killers trying to win but also wanting survivors to win without trying. I repeat my previous point… killers are the power role and should be easier. survivors are the underdogs and should struggle. For a horror game it makes far more sense for survivors to struggle to escape than a killer struggling to kill. I believe this is where people are getting frustrated, they think surviving should be as easy as getting kills. They want to be able to stand toe to toe with a killer and not struggle, be able to loop with ease, to not even try to counter the most common effective killer tactics intentionally not bringing the appropriate perks and still be able to counter it. This is not what dbd is, and the day survivors are able stand toe to toe with the killer and not struggle is the day dbd dies.

Put simply, know your role, pick your role and accept your role for what it is. Survivor role should be a struggle so people need to accept that when they decide on that role.

  • @CrypticGirl said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4044909#Comment_4044909

Tunneling isn't "playing optimally," it's taking a shortcut.  Instead of running faster to win the race, you cut across the track.

Survivor is a completely different game, so the comparison doesn't hold here.  Survivors are always expected to improve, loop better, play better, etc.  Why are Killers not held to that standard?  Why are only Survivors' skills expected to improve while Killers' skills are expected to remain static?

Ye im not sure how you run faster when the killer has no speed ability. shortcut is quickest route….being as dbd is a race, gens v kills, think of it as a racing game. If a driver takes the shortcuts that are allowed by the rules of the race and another driver decides not to take shortcuts then the one taking shortcuts will probably win by racing optimally. You dont have to like it that the other racers are taking the shortcuts but this is part of the game and you can take shortcuts too, you can gen rush for example. But saying a shortcut isnt optimal is just wrong, because it clearly is playing optimally if it gets good results. Its crazy how many people are willing to say "dont tunnel, dont kill too fast, when im hooked do something else, go for someone else" but then they are baffled when the killer says "dont do gens too fast, after 1 or 2 have popped take your time, stop doing your objective so well." Likewise it works both ways, killers shouldnt complain about gen speeds if they are not willing to tunnel essentially playing less efficiently than they could be.

killers are expected to improve, part of the improvement is learning new ways to play, new tactics. Not only that but killers have to succeed in downing the survivor to start with which is the skill part, take too long to down someone and not even tunneling can pull it back if people do gens. That being said Survivor is supposed to be the harder role, the devs have even said this multiple times. Its a horror game where 1 killer is a force to be reckoned with and the 4 survivors have to struggle to survive and escape. This is the game that was created and has been since day one. It is not 4 survivors have to escape while the killer struggles to get a kill. It makes it sound like a joke when its said in that way.

You obviously think winning is impossible if you think tunneling is needed. Tunneling inflated your MMR even more than you already had before you started tunneling. If the game was getting too hot for you, your solution was to make it even hotter?

so i go from winning 60% which is balanced to winning 20% if im lucky….no tunneling to inflate MMR and your answer is to intentioanlly handicap myself by refusing to play optimally? ok so if survivors are losing match after match they should intentionally play less optimally? i mean if its too hot and they cant handle it then trying to win will make it hotter right? makes no sense.

Logically if someone is losing then they should do the opposite of what you suggest. Its not the first time you have suggested people should intentionally perform worse than they are able to. In what world does your logic make any sense? cant win? dont try to win because you will get harder matches? If this is the mentality of survivors then its no wonder they are getting steam rolled so often.

didnt say impossible, i said its needed….which it is. its needed to keep me playing lol. Before someone can get good enough to win without tunneling, slugging, camping then in order to win you do need to use these tactics. These are straight up facts

That's not facts, that's your personal conviction. I camped once in my life, against the first ever bully squad I faced, it did not work (it was within my first ever ten games, IIRC, so I was very new), never used it again and never tunnelled or slugged. I got my wins in.

Keep in mind that if you have tunnelled, slugged and camped, you've likely inflated your MMR above where your skill can naturally carry you.

exactly the fact is thats my personal experience which many others have said they felt the same way.

I can only assume your either playing high to top tier killers or you have not been getting enough wins to get actual good teams

Using a legit tactic to inflate mmr beyond the skill level can be applied to literally anything….using sprint burst every match might inflate a survivors MMR beyond their skill level, or using swf with comms might have inflated a survivors MMR beyond their skill level which might be why some survivors that play SWF regularly struggle in soloq. Or that killers using S tier meta build to compete with 4 man swf swat teams have used S tier meta to inflate their MMR? Makes 0 sense to say something that is legitimatly in the game or a lgitimate tactic has inflated MMR

Not only that, but based on using tunneling to inflate MMR….how would explain it when i never used to tunnel? Based on my experience i raised my MMR without tunneling THEN hit the SWF squads over and over, so i dont know how tunneling could have been used to inflate MMR.

Then that's your call, but you don't get to say it isn't possible.

It just wasn't convenient for you, and it was easier to use tunneling as a fast track to victory.

didnt say impossible, i said its needed….which it is. its needed to keep me playing lol. Before someone can get good enough to win without tunneling, slugging, camping then in order to win you do need to use these tactics. These are straight up facts…if someone is struggling to win without these tactics and they are on the brink of quitting the game then these tactics are needed to pick up some wins to help stop them quitting the game completely.

  • this is exactly why i bring deja vu so i can see a 3 gen forming and work on breaking it BEFORE it gets to end game. you literally have all match to address the 3 gen issue, leaving for the end is not a good move

Obviously, it is difficult to be objective when you are in an emotional situation.

It'd be like asking me if I was happy with how I played during the Community Cups right after I lost haha. I was pissed and felt that I played like utter garbage.

Years on? I feel pretty good about it, and I'm happy I did it.

Same goes for those Killers. Hard to get a good read when you're emotional.

im not emotional at all but even i got fed up with losing match after match. the time it takes to get good enough to win without tunneling is too long. people rather quit the game than spend that much time losing. which was the situation with me, i had a choice, lose match after match or make a stand, throw the survivor rulebook out the windown and do what i need to do to win….hence why i tunnel. was that or quit

Realistically, you don't need it in most of your matches with any Killer.

Just makes thing easier, hard to say no to an easier game with no downside.

i think the hundreds of killers that end up with 0k and tbagging survivors at the gate match after match will disagree with you.

It really shows a lot about other players if they say that they can’t win without choosing boring, low-skill tactics. I know most people typically reply with MMR insults, but it’s enough of an epidemic that I see comments on other social media platforms saying that the game is so “broken” they have to slug. Those comments typically have a bunch of likes, which means that there are a lot of people out there who have to rely on those methods to win.

As I said in the title, I’m glad I don’t have to slug, tunnel, and camp to win.

which killer? there are a few that are easy wins and dont need tunneling or camping or slugging….nurse, ghoul, blight for example dont need to use these tactics because they are S tier

  • @Specotoge said:

First tunneling, how about Killers get a queue penalty for early game tunneling (survivors could report them, it could get checked by someone and next time the killer searches he gets the penalty), encouraging killers to stop tunneling while giving the ones that dont, a queue advantage.

Now gameplay, perks need a balancing change, 90% are not really getting played on both sides. The gen rush and slow down perks both should get nerfed, encouraging players to try new tactics and make the game more enjoyable for both sides. Its getting monotonous and Killer addons need nerfs.

penalty and reported for playing the game? i dont think survivors would like that if they could get reported for early game gens being done lol

As for gameplay, it is what you make of it. many opt for the scooby do chases around a pallet, some opt for a more stealthy gameplay. There is a choice already there.

I posted how one of the survivors I went against called me a pedophile in both EGC and my chat on twitch because I called the team out for being sore winners and surprisingly I had people come into the comments and defend what was said to me. "You tried and failed to tunnel." "You started it though." Were some of the things that were said.

Don't get me wrong I love this game. I would love to continue to play it I've spent a total of $300 on this game. But, this community man... For every wholesome interaction you get like 5 where you're told to off yourself in creative ways. You don't even have to win as the killer to get that kind of stuff. It can be a 4 man out where you played "fair" the entire time. It doesn't matter you queued up to play killer so you deserve to be told that you and your family should die.

Now I'm not saying that only survivors engage in this behavior because killers do it too it's just there are far more survivors so you see it a ton more from the survivor side. I really do love this game and want it to thrive but this game seems to attract some of the worst people out there. It seems no matter what you do someone will tell you to go die. Whether its, the perks you use, Charms you wear, the killer you chose to play. And the worst part of it is the behavior is seen as acceptable or just a part of the community.

And don't even get me started with the entitlement from some people in this community. The amount of people that go "Why didn't you let me escape/kill you" is really sad. The amount of x perk shouldn't have skill checks/ should be unlimited posts is sad. The amount of Henry is OP posts are sad. Like we can't even get a new killer without people bitching about them ever.

All I'm gonna say is people go way beyond plain banter all the time. There's a huge difference between "GG EZ, L Killer" And "######### PDF File T Slur." Ya know and the fact that both are treated with equal weight amongst community members is honestly extremely sad. I love this game and don't wanna leave but, I don't wanna deal with abuse because of whatever reason people use to justify it either.

call them JPEG, that will show them.

I am on console and strictly soloq. I have played for 4 days and every game has been tunneling, slugging, or trading hooks because killers have built in teleport from across the board. I think out of 30 games I won about 5 and teammates are just as bad. Survivors have given up and killers are going twice as hard. Maybe it’s just regional but it is not fun to play anymore.

while i play soloq survivor and seem to be doing ok….if i was on console i would have quit the game long ago. i started on console and thought its ok but then went to PC and didnt look back, i couldnt go back to console now after playing PC

Like I was pointing out the fact that I should not have to physically push out every single player and that they were being sore winners. It was a 4 man out. This is why people quit the game. This is who BHVR caters to and I'm sick of it. I'm so close to uninstalling.

My answer to that is tunnel… survivors dont like it but when you get things like that time and time again it makes you realise it doesnt matter what they like.

dude why are you camping pallets when you can hold W? lmao… You are literally waiting for killer to catch up, ON a pallet… You could make every pallet last 1min longer. Bubbas are ez mode… I would be so pissed if I saw a survivor like this in my solo lobby. The worst part is that 4man squads actually do this just to intimidate you from behind the pallet, cause they know their team is rushing gens, and wont run out of pallets before endgame. Absolutely infuriating.

indeed i could make every pallet last longer….

    1. dont need to
    2. it can be boring just going in circles so its fun to get a few stuns in quick succession just get their blood boiling lol.
    3. you have missed the point entirely…. its not to show how to loop or to demonstrate "skills", it is to show how to counter tunneling by making the killer give up chase, which i did….twice
    4. im not even a particularly skilled survivor, pretty average really. So the fact i have very little issues with tunneling, camping, slugging while others claim these tactics are unbeatable and happen every match is baffling to me. That bubba could have easily been a tunneling/camping killer that bubba is known for and if someone like me can not go down in 10 sec and keep the killer busy for what would have been 3 gens if they didnt stop chasing me then how bad must other survivors be to have an issue?

Bubba's red glow was on you so much, i don't think that was down to looping so much as him not knowing how to play very well. Everyone has had those sorts of games against mismatched opponents. I think people are curious about your stealth gameplay since you talk so much about it.

As previously stated, i dont usually record whole matches of my stealth gameplay because it doesnt make for good watching. its boring to be blunt. Playing it and watching it are very different. i do have a collection of hatch escapes which i intend to put together at some point. But the bubba vid wasnt to showcase looping or how good i am, it was just to show the effect of looping being a counter to tunneling. loop enough and the killer will likely abandon chase. good killer or bad killer, makes no difference, loop them well enough and they are in the same position….keep chasing or drop chase, basic premise remains.

I assume a lot? I mostly just repeat what you've said. But the rules thing, you bring rules and laws up constantly, as though pushing them to their absolute limits absolves you of any moral shortcomings because dems da rules. Like, who announces every chance they get that they never break the rules when literally no one asked?

I told you, I enjoy the game too, I just don't do it at the expense of others. I feel bad for your teammates, who are the same soloqers complaining here. And I do my fair share of campaigning for beneficial survivor changes, just I did my fair share of fighting for the anti tunnel, slug, and camp. What did you do? Say some killlers have to tunnel and people should loop and stealth instead of wanting game improvements.

To clarify, i point out i follow the rules because i see anything within the rules as fair game. cheating is breaking the rules which i dont do. i see many people pointing out they dont tunnel time and time again because they view it as bad behaviour, that doesnt mean they do tunnel because they point it out lol. Thats you reading the words and coming to your own assumptions instead of reading whats actually being said.

Im aware that you enjoy your games and you feel bad for my opponents (yes opponents not team mates)…i enjoy my games and feel bad for your opponents when they get targeted by you because of your assumptions that they have been ratting the whole match when they have actually been trying to not get tunneled for a change while still doing the objective…so basically playing the game but not in the way you say they should play it. In this regard we are the same….the difference is i am genuinely pleased you enjoy your matches and your not having having a bad time. Something tells me you dont feel the same way about me enjoying my matches lol which is a shame

Thank you! I appreciate you taking the time for this.

Can I ask if you have any videos of you doing what you talk about here on the forums? This bubba game isn't what I'd call a game, tbh. He had no idea what he was doing lol. I need good stealth examples to improve, but appreciate the effort anyway.

like i said i havnt gone through all the recordings i have, i dont usually record stealth moments because not much goes on. its one thing to play stealth, thats fun, watching stealth can be a bit boring so i have no reason to record them to playback at a later point. The bubba wasnt that great but the only reason i uploaded it was to prove a point that if you loop well it can make the killer abandon chase which prevents being tunneled. Even when you consider the bubba wasnt that great, even they knew it was time to find someone easier to catch which is something many experienced killers dont seem to learn.

You seemed bothered by me telling you people like you are why I don't like soloq, yet you have no trouble boasting that you have no empathy for others (like @Ryuhi said, weird flex), use teammates as tools, and run out the moment the gates open. If i'm in a match and someone jets immediately when it was totally unnecessary and the match is still ongoing, they get disdainful scoffs from everyone. Maybe you care, maybe you don't, but you are a part of the soloq problem.

And if someone brings up how much they follow the rules as much as you do, I'm inclined to think they either don't, or push them to their absolute limits. I wouldn't go around yelling to everyone how I'm a law-abiding citizen unless I was, in fact, not. But it's rather hard to report someone if you can't be sure they used you as bait or brought the killer to you on purpose.

again with your assumption, you do assume an awful lot but thats all they are, assumptions. Like i said, we all have our way playing…. im happy your way works for you. its unfortunate you come across like you are displeased with me actually enjoying the game instead of these doom and gloom players that complain about tunneling, camping, slugging, soloq in general. However, just like you, i wont change my play style because others dont like it or dont approve.

You and others might dread players like me but to the topic of the discussion….i have no empathy for either side including the random people i am matched with. The thing with these forums is that there are people that will agree and disagree…. thats normal. i expect there are others that agree with me and disagree with me. But facts remain…..i do what works for me, i enjoy my matches, have fun, i win and i break no rules in doing so. You dont have to like it, you dont have to do what i do, but you do have to accept it because its not going to change

  • im not sure if im allowed to tag or not but again i will say here anyway…. pvp games are not that linear. if you are comparing other pvp games to dbd then you should take note that other games are scored as a team. Halo, COD, pretty much any team based pvp game is scored as a team…the team wins or loses based on team points. This is not dbd.

you can heal yourself with a medkit which you can bring with you or even find one in the match. The 1 thing the "team" is needed for is unhooking and recovering from slug….other than that the "team" is not needed to win.

The hatch was not only designed to prevent stand offs….this could have been done by simply skipping the hatch stage and jumping to EGC where the survivor could still escape via gates no different to when the hatch is closed by the killer. it is there to make sure no matter what there is always a way to win for the individual playing, not for everyone, for 1 person. The point that it was introduced to stop people giving up is void based on the abandon option which allows people to give up and end the match instantly…2 different mechanics for 2 opposite things makes no sense. "dont give up, we know you lost but you can get the hatch" and "we know you lost, Your the last man standing so dont bother with the hatch, abandon instead". The only way it makes sense to have both mechanics is if the hatch is designed to let 1 person escape which encourages selfish play.

i never said anything about sandbagging or anything to directly interfere with other players. i do the objective and choose at the time if its worth saving the others or not. it is not against the rules to leave others on the hook while i do gens. everything i do is in accordance with the rules of the game. If you want to play as a team player and all work together thats great but you cant expect everyone to play the way you want them to play just because you believe the game is something else. We all have a choice in how we play, as long as we are playing by the rules of the game there is nothing wrong with playing differently to others.

Not to distract from your other 'calm and collected' discussion, but I was wanting to come back to playing some rounds with you. I read a few things about how you stealth and such, and I've been unable to do this. Might be a skill issue, might be I'm just not seeing something. But I'd love to run a few with ya and see if I can grab anything to use, perhaps get better. Doesnt have to be voice or anything if that's taboo. People get up in arms over comms, regardless of the reason lol

If this isnt something you're up for, all good. Just figured I'd try to get this stealth thing.

i play solo so i have to politely decline a match. i might have some clips scattered around somewhere, i can have a look to see what i have saved. only recently started uploading clips to youtube to save space on hard drive. The only full match i have uploaded has been v bubba to show how looping can make the killer abandon chase so if they try to tunnel then its less likely to be the strong looper tunneled out.

  • i wont tag because you seem to not like it but i will say…. pvp means player v player. you are thinking of a co-op game where players work together and win together. That is not dbd.

You can share it all you want. Its just proof you fundamentally don't understand half the game's design, and cling to an edgy description about how you can leave people behind in the exit gate to mean you are actively opposed to them. Cheers.

it sounds more like you are ignoring every single thing that suggests the game is not strictly a team game because it doesnt fit your belief of what the game should be. Its a choice. i have said i dont always leave them die, just quite often i do. i have saved people, looped, healed people. We all have a choice on how to play the game, work as a team or not… not working as a team when the team works for me. if working working a team works for you then great, we all play out own way and do what works for us.

What you're describing sounds like the wade pool for the new players and such. If you're finding these players constantly, then you may be right that getting out of low mmr is difficult in solo'Q.

I'd be willing to run some games with ya! Not because I think you need it, I just always like playing with someone new to me! Im PST but have mastered the 200+ ping DH, so I'd be fine with any ping issues. Lemme know!

some are new players, some have over 10k hours, its a weird mix but even the experienced players throw matches when they get a map they dont like or a killer they dont like (ghoul) or if they want to go for blind and finds the killer has lightborn they just straight up DC. MMR is clearly broken because there should be no way people get brand new players 1 match then a pro comp player the next but thats soloq, or thats my experience in soloq anyway. I have had 3 man SWF teams matched with with me and 10 seconds in to the match they DC.

No matter what i do i rely on my team mates….if i loop i rely on the team to do gens. if they dont do gens my looping is a waste of time which is often the case in soloq

Thats true, but so is preemptively letting your teammates down by not doing your job when its time to step up. And to reiterate, your job is more than just being a gen jockey (regardless of how important doing gens is.)

if i stealth i rely on others looping well.

And if they stealth, they rely on you to loop well. See how quickly it falls apart when 50% of your team is actively avoiding the killer?

if they dont then gens are not getting done by the time the killer gets a kill, especially if they have pain res.

And the only way you can directly control that is by using your superior looping skill to waste the kiler's time. You can hope that others will step up and do it for you, but you can (I assume) actively control yourself in game. Notice how there is a constant? It even improves in efficiency as your skill does, as chase on both sides is arguably the biggest form of skill expression in the game, and can be directly improved on the individual level.

fact is, when 3 other people on the team dont do the objective and generally dont bother then there is a point where i have to rely on my own ability to stay alive long enough to get hatch or open gate at the end.

And your solution is to be one of those 3 right off of the bat. Because again, gluing yourself to gens can only include avoiding the killer if you avoid any and all pressure they apply on said area. Just to make sure we're on the same page, excessive stealth isn't the same thing as "not running directly into the killer," its putting avoidance above any of your objectives that may jeopardize it. Hatch is also a pity escape, and being able to open the gate after hatch is closed is extremely RNG dependent on gate positions. Its more effective to work toward actually escaping the right way than it is playing in a way that specifically hopes to be given scraps from the table.

There is a reason i play the way i do…. soloq players do go adepts, they do totem challenges, go for blinds, meme around, go next or DC. What your describing where people share hooks, share chase time, this is SWF not soloq.

Thats a self fulfiling roadblock. You only expect that kind of stuff from SWF because you assume everyone in solo holds you back, yet your playstyle actively holds back everyone around you by design. If more players thought like you and whatnot.

Everything about the game suggests it is not a "team". it is 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v 1….the survivors may have a common goal they may not, they may work as a team, they may not.

That stupid quote did more damage to this game's community than release Legion. You aren't "vs" your teammates if you have the same shared goal, and it isn't mutually exclusive to their own completion. The gate doesn't have 3 exits and one person is forced to stay behind. The closest you have to any vs between survivors is ironically regarding rats waiting out the hatch spawn vs each other. You are on a team with your teammates.

This is how the game is designed. the hatch, the score system, mmr, BP rewards, personal challenges even perks designed around stealth and selfish play.

Lets do a rundown real quick. A pity mechanic designed to prevent players from giving up when they've already lost, A score system that has limits on categories to force diversification in how you play (including 1/4th minimum of the total being dedicated to interacting with the killer, and another 1/4th being dedicated to helping teammates) an extremely badly implimented MMR that nobody has been happy with pretty much since its introduction, "BP rewards"(?) which I'm assuming is referring to rank rewards(?) which are determined by emblems and not escapes (many pips requiring, again, well rounded play including both interacting with the killer and literal altruism) personal challenges which have pretty much always just been directions to sandbag yourself selectively since their inception, and rat perks being in the game.

With this in mind, it is irrelevant if my actions are a detriment to the "team" because there is no team

Then I hope you get exactly what you project into every match in your future, my friend. May you live forever.

if people stealth it doesnt mean its my job to loop the killer. its either or….i can stealth and do gens thats why i do what i do. i cant do gens if im looping.

you say im one of those 3 not doing the objective when im doing gens lol the objective is do gens and escape it is not loop the killer. How the gens are done can differ and looping can help but it is not the objective.

i dont assume other players hold me back, i know they do from experience. you cant expect SWF standards to apply when solo does not have SWF things such as comms.

IF we have the same shared common goal…. whos to say we do in solo? if i have a hatch challenge then we do not have a shared common goal, the hatch is my goal. Therefore we are not on the same page and not a team. we share the same role (survivor) and we can work together if we choose to. But we can also work alone to achieve whatever personal goal we have. it is not just the 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 v1 quote that states this, the description on steam also states players can work as a team or play selfishly.

If the hatch mechanic is only designed for when players have lost then why does it spawn after 3 have left via the gate after doing gens? and why is it still in the game when we can abandon when we are last survivor remaining? Regardless of how you feel about the poor mmr system or bad design of the rewards system it is still a fact these things grade people as individuals not a team. Even playing the way i do i still get to iri 1 rank in the first few nights of playing the game so whatever im doing seems to work on multiple levels, reduce tunneling, increase escapes, increase fun, increase grade emblems. When or IF they change it so we are scored as a team and when 3 man out while i die on hook means the team wins then yes it will be a team, untill no its not. You might not like it and you might wish it was something else but like it or not this is the reality of the game as it is now.

i share the steam game description which i have done previously:

Admitting to having zero empathy for other players, including your teammates, while resting on your laurels as they drag you across the finish line is… certainly a flex. "If more people thought like you" then your escape rate would be in single digits. Sentiments like i last longer in chase than a lot of people mean nothing if you actively avoid ever being spotted. Also Just because i dont let myself get chased doesnt mean im not doing my part. is an oxymoron when drawing the killer's attention away from vulernable teammates is part of "your part." Again, if its a 6 hook game and you have 0 hooks, everyone else is on death hook and your chances of being one hooked (either by being left there, or nobody being in a position to save you) go up exponentially.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with avoiding the killer strategically. Making them waste time searching near a 75% complete gen, misleading them away from someone who might be getting tunneled, being on death hook and banking on the killer dumping extra effort into finding you, there are absolutely times where stealth is a very smart play. But avoidance is actively not, and the game design for everything minus the hatch is centered around interaction more than non-interaction. If you can't understand any of this, at least try to understand that you are being an active detriment to your team if you refuse to engage with the killer, especially if you "last longer in chase than a lot of people."

No matter what i do i rely on my team mates….if i loop i rely on the team to do gens. if they dont do gens my looping is a waste of time which is often the case in soloq. if i stealth i rely on others looping well. if they dont then gens are not getting done by the time the killer gets a kill, especially if they have pain res. fact is, when 3 other people on the team dont do the objective and generally dont bother then there is a point where i have to rely on my own ability to stay alive long enough to get hatch or open gate at the end.

I don't have moral objections to stealth and selfish play when the timing for it is right. If I see a teammate hiding and doing nothing from start to finish, yeah, I would object. On the other hand, if I'm hanging on hook in endgame and the Killer is camping, I don't mind the teammates being selfish and leaving me.

This is what i have been saying, my advice has been to stealth and play more selfishly….maybe not as much as me (do whatever works for you) but thats pretty much all i have been trying to say. Might help with lessening the likelihood of being tunneled and can improve escape rates like it did for me. Just careful you dont assume someone has done nothing all match lol so many people make assumptions based on 5 sec of info. i went in a locker once for couple sec because killer was coming near me carrying a survivor. after killer left the area i unhooked them, healed them and went back to my gen. end of the match i was accused of hiding in a locker all match because all that survivor saw was me leaving a locker one time. Thats the thanks i get for saving them. Or when i done 4 or even 5 gens on my own because no one else will do them, i have been accused of ratting in the corner all match…. impressive feat to do 5 gens while standing in the corner but because the killer couldnt find me they assumed.

All that is besides the point, my point is that playing my way works for me, it makes it fun, prevents me being tunneled and i often win.

And my point, in a topic about empathy within the community, is that you are actively transferring those negatives to your teammates, decreasing their chances of having a fair shot at winning, and doing nothing to actually engage in self growth that naturally leads to better outcomes both for yourself and your teammates. Just remember this every time you ever see a survivor post about useless teammates, because TOO MUCH stealth makes you exactly that. You are being who they are complaining about. You could be instead improving your weaknesses, but instead you want whatever shortcut you can get. The irony of using that as a counter to excessive tunneling is just bafflingly shortsighted.

Indeed, which is why my very first post on this threat stated i have no empathy for either side. I agree my self growth benefits me not the team because it is not strictly a team game. You cant please everyone no matter how hard you try. If half the team wants to win and the other half want to mess around having fun then someone will not be happy, so i dont play to what others want or what others like, i play for me and my goal and my enjoyment.

The people that complain about useless survivors are complaining about the people that refuse to touch gens, go down in 10 seconds, fail skill checks, make mistakes like unhooking infront of a camping bubba. I actually do gens, i last longer in chase than a lot of people, i dont fail skill checks and i dont make mistakes like unhooking infront of a camping bubba, i heal team mates when the killer isnt around. Just because i dont let myself get chased doesnt mean im not doing my part.

Going by that definition, yes, I do play honorably as Survivor.

Thats not what i asked, i asked if you thought you morals prevents you from improving. if you struggled with killer you already said you wouldnt tunnel and be ok with the loss due to your moral objections regarding tunneling. As survivor do you have moral objections to stealth and selfish play which may or may not aid in your escape rates and enjoyment of the game?

  • @Ryuhi said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4042857#Comment_4042857

And if a single other survivor uses your mentality, your chances of escape plummet significantly, especially if you continue in kind. I have a lot of problems with how the game rates wins and losses (especially on the survivor side) but being a leech is actively hindering your team with your portion of shared agency. You basically give up and and all rights to blame your teammates for anything if you're actively weighing them down.

As for your escapes, gates or hatch? If gates, powered by gens or hatch closing? Because the only way that would boost escape rates would be if you are very poor in chase, which is something you can improve in order to get a better win rate without mooching off of the work of your teammates. No matter how you slice it, anything more than situational stealth is your teammates carrying you more than you earning your victories, which actually says a lot about the agency distribution of the role.

That depends. Like everything its all situational. It just happens to be many many situations calls for stealth. i dont ALWAYS leave my team to die. i do sometimes save them when i feel its the right choice to make which would help in my escape, like if they are a good looper its worth going for the save so they can buy me even more time. If more players played like me then more gens would get done, killer wouldnt find people as easy, people wouldnt be tunneled out at 5 gens. I wish players did play like me, maybe if they did then i wouldnt think "why risk myself to unhook a awful looper that will go down in 10sec after i have been hooked trying to save them?"

How i escape is irrelevant to me, an escape is an escape. gates boost MMR and hatch keeps it neutral so next time i escape via gate it would go up again. Some things are out of my control, like if 3 team mates go next or go down instantly all together i cant do much about it but im not going to let them bring me down with them.

All that is besides the point, my point is that playing my way works for me, it makes it fun, prevents me being tunneled and i often win. Which is why to anyone that says they cant loop or cant counter being tunneled or cant escape…..i my advice is what works for me. about 3k hours in and now i can not only loop ok but i have stealth too.

That wasn't what I asked. I asked what you would find honorable, not dishonorable.

i think playing by the rules to achieve a win is honourable. cheating isnt honourable and griefers/bully squads are not honourable because they dont want to win they want to annoy the other other player even at the cost of winning.

I mean they'll end up with you tunneled less, but you're not helping your chances of winning by going that far. Hook states and even just killer attention are a shared resource between the whole survivor team, and avoidance is purposely designed to be inefficient for that reason. The only real dishonor is toward your teammates, who probably don't appreciate all being on death hook 6 hooks into a match. Its basically playing for a draw from the start, and hoping you stumble into a win.

If the team was scored as a team yes i would agree. And to some degree hooks are a resource… a resource i often use. But its the hook states of the other survivors i use to buy me time to do gens so i can walk out the gate and win. This way of playing has helped my chances of escaped, it has significantly boosted my escape rate.

That depends on what Survivor actions you would consider honorable from a Killer perspective. Do you even think there are any?

I dont consider my actions dishonourable. Brutally harsh and cold maybe but not dishonourable. Actions like playing stealth (i mean stealth not rat), playing selfishly and thinking of my escape above all others. These actions are part of the game as far as im concerned. When im killer i have seen some survivors like me and i dont consider them dishonourable for walking out the gate when im securing an end game kill i think "smart move".

Mainly?  Understanding.  You say you play Survivor, you say you've been tunneled and learned how to counter it, so it sounds like you should understand.  I'm just having trouble seeing that in your responses.

I've play thousands of matches since I first started, I've got about 3300 hours overall.  If that hasn't helped me improve, then what will?

do you think your morals are getting in the way of your improvement? For example, you said even if you were in a position where tunneling was the right call, you still wouldnt do it and your ok with the loss. Does this apply to survivor too? I have offered advice on how to counter tunneling. Some might call it dishonourable to do what i do but it does help me counter the common issues people seem to have, it does help me win and does help me have fun in my matches.

Yeah, I do feel bad when we end up stomping all over the Killer. One match where I had a hacking teammate who kept remote flashlight saving me, and the Killer DC'd? Yeah, I felt bad. That poor Killer literally couldn't do anything. Another match where a Clown chased and hooked a Meg while the three of us were on three separate gens, and they all popped near-simultaneously, leading to the Killer's DC? I didn't blame him at all.

    Just a few examples.

yet it doesnt stop you doing what you were doing because you felt bad for the killer. you wanted to win… you could see all 3 gens were going to be done at the same time, you could have stopped doing your gen. My point is you and the team as a whole could be seen as making the game as miserable as possible for the killer because you wanted to win, you were playing the game. This is what many killers do, they play the game, they try to win….maybe they feel bad for tunneling maybe they dont but they dont try to make survivors games as miserable as possible they just try to win, just like you.

They want to win, so they do everything in their power to make the other side miserable, and they don't care how their opponents feel. All they care about is winning.

so if you could loop a killer for 5 gens, would you care how the killer feels? or if you blind the killer for a flashlight save after they spent ages to get a down, do you care about how the killer might feel about that?

I think the bigger problem is that some players, mostly on the Killer side, take the game too seriously, and feel that anything less than a 100% win rate is unacceptable.  Survivor players who feel that way will likely turn to the Killer role, because they tire of being stomped on and Killers are naturally stronger.

by too seriously you mean they want to win so they do what the rules of the game permits to do so? There is nothing wrong with trying to improve, trying to get better results. tbh i play both sides but im actually finding survivor the easier role play right now.
