Nope, not at all. You'll still be able to get a hit against a survivor using the item, if you time Mage Hand well. It will just decrease the distance a survivor needs to have to Vecna when reaching a pallet to participate in a mind game, because it will counter blocking pallets a bit more effectively.
Not to mention, Xeno is far from useless just because of turrets. The turrets are the only thing that keep Xeno in check.
You didnt get my point.
Xeno´s problem was that many people wanted the killer to get nerfed so that they could outplay the killer even without the turrets. This sentiment was flawed because the main counterplay to Xeno is supposed to be the turrets. If this is a good idea is something entirely else.
Lets take some of the new maps for example. If I use mage hand on the game, what happens:
- survivor most likely makes it to the next pallet.
- I have just reset a pallet that can be used again.
If I dont get a hit with mage hand, lifting a pallet, I shot myself in the foot HARD.

Definitely do not agree. Not to mention just because some other killers have very little counterplay doesn't mean Vecna needs to be like that as well.
So a nurse has more counterplay?
-
@ad19970 said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3737103#Comment_3737103
Yes they do. But they shouldn't be a requirement to have any chance of counterplaying a certain ability. Mage Hand should have some form of counterplay without the item as well.
And what happens then if you have it? The ability becomes useless?
This is Xeno all over again.

No I am pretty sure I know what you mean. But again, if the survivor is close enough to stun Vecna, Vecna can just block the pallet instead and then get a hit.
The counterplay you suggest does work on tiles that break line of sight, I admit that, because Vecna won't be able to know if the survivor kept on running or is waiting for the pallet stun. But that to me is not enough counterplay.
It's more counterplay than other killers have that are not even looked at.

Pretty sure there are quite a few people that would put Vecna in A tier.
The Mage Hand nerf is absolutely necessary, I am just worried about the changes to FoTD, that ability seems perfect to me the way it is now.
So the magic items don't exist?

Seems it's gotten less likely, as for reasons not appropriate to discuss on these forums, many players are saying that they don't want any more Stranger Things content, and even wanting it to be removed again, this time entirely. "Stranger Things can rot."
Why??? Id love to know.
-
Well…. It was fun while it lasted. I guess the magic items that make the survivor see Vecnas aura / see Vecnas spells / literally invisible / tps to the other side of the map, ending the chase are not strong enough to warrant a power that can be crouched and dodged.
But hey. Lets first see how they want to nerf a killer that most people would not even put in high tier.
-
Hiding survivors in general are pretty strong if done right.
There is still nothing a killer can do against survivors that decide to do nothing and are prepped against any form of aura reading.
Its rare but results in games that last incredibly long without anything really happening.
-
@ad19970 said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3736730#Comment_3736730
That doesn't really work most of the time because once Vecna is close enough to the survivor for the survivor to stun Vecna, he can simply block the pallet instead, and still get a hit against the survivor, because the movement speed penalty of Mage Hand isn't enough for the survivor to get around the pallet loop another time.
I would need to record gameplay to show what I mean. Ive seen many survivors play around it pretty well. Especially interconnected pallets work very well against mage hand.

Personally I've never had problems with valiant gargs but it also might be because I always got there overleved. Kinda similar to Fortissax that I had to make a playthrough where I just speedran to him to not be gigaoverleved and not kill him in like 10 hits.
But generally yeah, there is not a single good duo boss in the game but maybe they're gonna deliver some good duo fight in the DLC(hopefully more like demons duo or twin princes in ds 3 and not lud and zallen dps run).
Lets get our hopes up!

3 in 10 games -ish
Edit: depends very heavily hoow my early game goes. Hooked before a gen pops (3 / 10 ish), hooked after one gen pops (1/10 ish), hooked after 3 gens pop ( run to me after unhook to bully me with ds <3)

Oh, my bad. I meant that not literally.
The Ptb said: he has this turn rate. The live version had it. Then it got nerfed.
But we'll, I guess it's just ok for something to be changed in less than a week. Id like to know what made them reconsider their change.
Seems like I'm wrong here.

Chucky's flick is still in the game as far as Im aware so I dont know what other techs youre talking about
Also your friend wasnt promised anything. Again, live service games means changes are bound to happen, especially if theyre unintended.
Oni was a way different case. He had no turn limit when initially released (which was intended) and then they reduced that drastically to 45 degrees. Everyone, including the devs knew this was too bad of a nerf so they increased it to 90 degrees (al though you can go further with flicks)
I didn't say that my friend was promised anything.

I would say that I hated the repeated major bosses the most, especially Godefroy, that thing was inexcusable, also Astel repeat was completely unnecessary and THE encounter could've had that Ornstein and Smough twist…
Now we can wait for DLC and see what designs it's going to grant us.
Elden ring duo fights in general are awful because both enemies do not work with each other.
Both fight as if fought alone. Together, it just becomes a nightmare. You get stun locked and die. The worst are the gargoyles because of their aoe vommit.
Godskins are fine IF you deal enough damage. If you do a low dps run, they are the worst fight ever.
I'm super hyped for the dlc. Literally need that stuff now.

First of all, when and where did they mention he's getting nerfed?
Second of all, if you buy a product purely because of its viability and not the actual gameplay thats on you. This is a live service game that makes balance changes on a regular basis. The product also remains practically the exact same, unless I completely missed the memo and his spells are just completely different which I know isnt the case.
Lets take Chucky as an example. When he released, he had a pretty good turnrate, allowing for tons of little tricks and techs.
Many people love these things when playing DBD. A good friend of mine solely bought this killer for this reason. He likes this kind of skill expression.
Only weeks after his release, they adjusted his turn rate, eliminating many of the techs. This literally made my friend stop playing Chucky at all because he lost interest in the character. If this change was implemented when he released just 1-2 weeks earleir, my friend could have saved that money to maybe buy another character. He was promised something he didnt get. Balance changes are fine. But things that literally sell a character like Chucky´s turn rate should maybe either be adjusted before the character goes live or a lot further down the road. As far as I remember, we had a similar problem with Oni, where they changed his turn rate and very few people wanted to play him as a result.
Last but not least, why would the nerf to one of his powers not be a nerf to the killer?
-
@Mandy said:
Being grabbed from a portal is definitely intended - same as you can get grabbed off a generator for example, with portals its harder though as the specific window for the grab is much smaller.
So the grab was intended but the positioning of the portals was never reconsidered?
-
Mage hand upsides:
- lifts a pallet granting a free hit more often than not
- holds a pallet in place
Mage hand downsides:
- can be countered by magical item
- is mindgameble
- recource is not gone from the map and can be used again.
Nerf is in my opinion not needed.

@Shroompy said:
Ive never had it phase through a Survivor, but FotD does hit hooked Survivors, meaning they can tank the hit for the person unhooking
The ability is fine and has a way higher skill ceiling than most give it credit. You can get an instant hit since they deal damage the moment they are summoned. If a Survivor is also on an elevated surface (it can be a very small difference) they cant crouch it since the hitbox is lower, and its not like an Artist crow where itll go up/down elevations at the start of their flight.
I dont think Vecna is an extremely powewrful killer like other heavy hitters like Plague or Oni. He doesnt even reach Wesker if you ask me.
First and foremost: I find it absurd, that the killer is nerfed, when the release hasnt even been a week ago. This is just plain bad consumer practise. It was bad with Alien, it was bad with Chucky and its bad now with Vecna. This has nothing to do with the nerfs being justified or not. Its about selling a product and then changing it, so people that bought it, bought something that is not what they paid for just day later. It makes people not trust in the characters anymore. Why buy something if it is just fun for you the first few days and then gets nerfed.
Dont get me wrong, Xenos cooldown nerf was fine, however, things like this should be adjusted BEFORE the product is sold. Not days after everyone has already paid money for it.
I genuinely hope that this will not make this killer a lot weaker. It would make BHVR look extremely shady.

I mean they leave killers in OP states for at least 3 months before they do anything to them (unless they are very OP). And with the way gaming works in the modern era, getting more than a week out of a game makes it a very good game.
So yes, I would purchase a perk to have fun with it until it got nerfed. Most people play games like that today.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3735738#Comment_3735738
The argument that survivor perks are bad because there are more of them in the lobby is a bad argument. Then delete perks or reduce the amount we have. Most survivor perks right now literally save you seconds of time. Where killer perks traditionally add several minutes onto the game, or significantly reduce the time a chase takes.
Why would you ever spend money on a perk that reduces the time it takes to do a gen by 4 seconds. It kinda feels like they do new survivor perks because they have to, not because they want to.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3735737#Comment_3735737
On that list I would consider one perk to be meta (in that everyone should run it), the rest are just okay. That one perk I would list as meta also got nerfed into the ground, so it would no longer be on that list. I also bought Nicolas because I thought his perks looked fun, not because they were particularly strong. Plot twist is my favorite perk in the game, and I still wouldn't put it on a list of meta perks for survivor.
The point I am making is, it's obvious they design survivor perks to peak out at balanced. Where they design killers to at their worst, be balanced. You can also see this in tuning when it comes to killer and killer perk changes. They almost always do very careful tuning so that a killer still remain strong, or so a perk still remains usable. But when it comes to a survivor perk nerf, it almost always instantly kills that perk.
What killer was truly OP?
If you like the way, gaming is heading, then good for you.
I like to "own" my games and maybe play them again from time to time. Replayability is something that should be celebrated.

Ye, Noble is a ######### xd
If they are ever added in Dbd it would be very funny to give them power that automatically throws fireballs at survivors as soon as they are locked in animation :D
I thought their image might be triggering because they, you know, skin gods and wear them as robes.
Despite the Godskin noble being what you said, I can't help but love him. He's so bad that he's good. Same with THE encounter.
The only things in this game that I genuinely despise are:
- Sir Gideon Ofnir the all spamming
- Valiant Vommiters
I love Elden Rings art design. As someone that has researched a lot in the field of character design and even wrote papers about it, Elden Ring is truly a sight to behold.

I don't see a problem with having perks actually worth purchasing. And I don't see a problem with them getting adjusted if they are too strong.
So you would buy a game, which is awesome for 2 weeks and then many quests are cut because some people deemed them too hard, making the story make no sense because of it?
People want to know what they are spending their money on. To spend your money on something, just to know that you can only enjoy it for days before it gets ruined is horribly unfriendly towards the customer.
I'm not ok with it and many others are not as well.

Nito sounds great, although he seems too big for Dbd and they would have to downscale him a lot.
May I ask what do you not like about Godskins: their aesthetic or is it because of THAT encounter? :)
Godskin Noble: Beyblade move and it's ridiculous hitbox / Nobles presence is just a middle finger XD
Godskin apostle: actually ok
What I love about them is the adorable hard coding to throw a fire ball when the player pushes the heal button.
Also. Yes. Of course THAT encounter.

Again they are already doing what you said, but just for killer and killer perks. That has been the game plan for quite a few releases at this point, and it's not going anywhere. As long as we are going to do that for killers, I feel like it should come to survivor too.
You are speaking as though this is a hypothetical, there are actively releasing OP killers and nerfing them in the next patch.
What killer was truly OP?
Furthermore, what I say is, that this practice is not good in general. That this has been going on for this long is not something that should be embraced but something that should be criticized.

I'd really want an entire chapter of DS/ER. I think someone like Artorias would be pretty doable to implement. He could have his flips and dashes as power and buff himself with the dark as his "ult". And he can be called his iconic The Abysswalker title.
Also it would be cool to see Fume Knight or Pontiff Sulyvahn but they would be harder to implement, although I think they could get their combo attacks as power and they both have ranged attacks(Pontiff even has multiple to choose from)
For Elden Ring I think Godskin Apostle would be a pretty good choice and maybe Mohg would fit.
Nito would also be cool. Maybe just as a skin for dredge.
Please get anything related to the Godskins away from me... I think Mohg would be amazing with bloodflame otherwise, a black knife assassin could also be cool. They could cloak themselves and go for sneaky hits.

What is that 2 perks in 3 years? Should we throw a party?
Also they literally are already doing what you said. They have nerfed every single killer they have released for the past 2 years.
It is bad to release perks, that are so problematic, that they need to be changed as much as CoH for example.
Its also bad to release a killer just to nerf them days later. This is consumer unfriendly practice and should be criticized.
On a side note. Vecna is not even top tier. H struggles hard against coordinated groups that use the magical items effectively. A nerf is literally not required except the enduring stuff. Most people I've encountered don't use the tools given to them effectively, therefore Vecna seems very oppressive. This is not something bad. It's been 4 days since release. Nobody expects people to put 3/4 of their day into dbd. People will learn over time. Just like they did with Unknown.
But hey. At least Blight can just ignore pallets right now and is not getting killswitched. Where are the priorities?

Hey folks, now that we've had some time to see it play out and think it over, I wanted to give a quick update. The current plan is to make some changes to Mage Hand in one of our upcoming minor patches.
We'll be slightly reducing Mage Hand's range to 14m (was 16m)EDIT: This one is no longer planned.- We're reverting the pallet lift time to 0.5s (was 0.35s) - this is the same as the PTB version.
We'll also be reworking the Ring of Telekenesis add-on (which currently causes Mage Hand to pick up pallets quicker) to have a different effect since this turned out to be a very risky number to mess with.
And lastly, as a quick reminder, we'll be fixing a bug which caused Mage Hand to continue picking up a pallet after it stuns you (the stun will correctly cancel Mage Hand), so combining it with Enduring will no longer be an issue.
Keep an eye out for patch notes in case anything changes.
This is horrible practice and you guys should know that.

I am not complaining that he is strong, I wouldn't care if he were to be released equal footing to Alien or Chucky. What I do care about, and what I am complaining about is survivors do not get the same treatment. BHVR have put in a purposeful effort to make sure killers are strong on release, so people actually get the new killer. But, they do not care whether or not the survivor perks are strong for some reason. They have the ability to nerf these things, they already do this to killer releases.
There is no reason why they shouldn't release at least one powerful perk with each new release.

@Jaredleto1234 said:
But, why don't survivor perks get the same treatment? You have been making killers exceedingly powerful for a few years now so people are encouraged to buy them. Yet, the survivor perks are still as lack luster as they have pretty much always been. Aside from a few notably strong perks that we get maybe once a year, there is very little reason to buy new survivors.
I don't have a problem with killers being released OP, but maybe think about doing the same for survivor? Am I crazy? Do we not like more money?
It's a terrible philosophy to release a killer strong to nerf them literally days later.
Sometimes for no reason whatsoever.
This practice reduces customers trust.

Agree. Only 3 days passed, I only VS like 4 Vecnas in many Hours of SoloQ And sadly they Will Rush to Nerf him anyway.
Which would honestly be a mistake. People are already on the fence of playing new characters. Chucky and Xeno are just two examples of killers that felt great at release and got nerfed only weeks after that. Now im not saying, that Chucky´s pallet scamper should not have gotten nerfed (the turn rate and window scamper should not have gotten nerfed) and that Aliens miss cooldoown was fine. Both nerfs where fine.
However, people are getting sick of buying a product, enjoy it and then get it made worse. This will just result in less people buying the dlc´s in the future because they dont trust in what they buy anymore.
Venca is fine powerwise right now. I played around 20-25 games since release and had hard games against very strong groups and easy games against people that didnt know what they where doing.
Who do we balance for? Who do we produce dlc´s for?
-
Fun and fair. Many people have not learned how to play him effectively because most survivors have not learned how to play against him effectively.
Magic items are very strong, but most people seem too ignore them. Fly is fine to ctach up in chase or traverse the map to get into chases faster, mage hand heavily punishes sloppy pallet play but rewards mindgames, flight of the damned is mostly a zoning tool, that more often then not results in Vecna getting m1 due to survivors crouching mid chase and not trying to dodge the hitboxes and the sphere is a great info tool, that alsoo disables the main counterplay being the magic items.
Magic items like the eye and hand of Vecna are pretty strong in the right hand and can straight up end chases.
All in all, strong but very complex killer that will need a bit of time for all players to learn. I could very much imagine, that his kill rate is pretty high right now.
