    He's still very bad.

This guy gets it. Knight is garbage.

DBD would be casual friendly if all the perks were unlocked straight from the start. This is however not the case and it takes forever to get them. Sure, looping takes some skill but that is about it. I don't think a completely new player would do badly in that situation after a couple of games.

I really think having Survivors be unique would take a lot of that unnecessary complexity away. I mean like having Dwight be the only person that can have either Prove Thyself or Leader, Claudette being the "Healer" with Botany Knowledge/Empathy, and even Mikaela with stuff like CoH... I really feel like that's the way they should've taken the Survivor side of the game.. The way it is now is just so sloppy. Having Survivors be somewhat unique would add some structure to the game.. Would make for a much more interesting experience if they treated the Survivors how the characters are treated in something like Rainbow 6. Where there can't be 4 Dwights on the same team with the same outfits/perks, etc.

Imo,that type of stuff doesn't really add anything meaningful to the experience besides "Lol! We are wearing the same clothes with same perks, lol..."

I recently tried getting a friend into this game and they played it for a few weeks before uninstalling. They said earning points is too slow (even though I told them the grind was worse before, but they often get tunneled out despite my best attempts to bodyblock) and they can't play killer because they get extreme motion sickness from the first person POV. I told them the game might be more enjoyable if they learned to loop a bit but they said this game isn't "casual" enough for them even though I feel like it's still pretty casual in the end aside from the pip/grades system, and regardless of how some players like to sweat like their lives depend on it.

I'm curious to hear some opinions though: do you think DBD is casual and what makes it casual or uncasual for you guys?

This game is one of the FURTHEST away from a casual friendly game I've played in the last 10 years tbh. The door to entry is pretty steep for Survivor and Killer... Seeing how much unorganized stuff there is in this game is like looking up at a tilted skyscraper.. Ya it looks pretty big and stupendous, but its foundation is and has been flawed from the get go and new people feel that "jank" when they first try the game. DBD could be more beginner friendly, but in order for that to happen the developers really need to let go of some of this older trash that has been in the game since its inception.

For example, the horrendous Killer FOV needs to go. This should be an option in settings and not a GAME PLAY HINDRANCE... I have had so many buds try this game out and of course they gravitate to the Killers, but the 1st question they always ask me is, "Why is the Field of View so damn zoomed in?" I don't even know how to respond most of the time, because I have no clue why its like that.. When they made the game, they thought that was good... Well they are wrong.. By today's standards the FOV for Killer in this game is complete garbage in terms of pure accessibility.

Starting as a Survivor is a miserable experience as well, due to this games COMPLETE LACK of a decent in-game tutorial. The one we currently have is still TRASH compared to what it should and could be. If the right resources went to the right places instead of constantly hashing out rushed content every 3 months, the game might see some actual "player base" gains and then not lose them within that next month. With the trajectory that this game is currently on, I honestly can't see it being more popular than it already is even say 10 years from now.

After you delve in for even a few games, you realize how stale and utterly lifeless the mechanics, player base, and game itself actually is. The Survivors are all skins of one another, so nothing to praise there and many of the Killers have HUGE game play flaws that make them feel clunky as all hell. The game is still suffering many bugs that have existed since it was first made.. Oh and cheaters... just ruin the experience for everyone, and there are more cheaters in this damn game than any OTHER GAME I have played in a LONG LONG LONG time..

I honestly wish that this game belonged to a different studio.. I would love to see what an actual TRIPLE A company would do to make the game play feel better on both sides and not have the community be at each others throats constantly. I believe its possible, just not for BHVR unfortunately. It's like having a kid then coming to that realization as they get older that they'll never be the type of person you hoped they'd be.

Be me wanting to play a fun game...

    Running the perks:

    • Distressing
    • Hex: Thrill of the Hunt
    • Beast of Prey
    • Franklin's Demise

I like to call this build "Gimme stuff and bloodpoints". A VERY tame build.

Encounter a group of sweaty survivors with the usual sweat builds that take me to Meat Packing Plant and use 2 Petrified Oaks, double slightly increasing the distance between hooks.

Manage to kill two of them and the last two keep going to a corner of the map where I simply cannot get to a hook fast enough to hook them. After having tried several times throughout the match, I just leave the survivor downed in that corner and go hunt the other one, because what is the freaking point?

While I am hunting down the other survivor the downed one bleeds out as I got every pallet in existence thrown at my face. Just took a while to find her in the first place and because she was good at looping it took a bit longer.

And after the match they complain about slugging and call me names... Are you kidding me?

Then don't bring petrified oak so it is feasible for me to actually reach a hook... So tired of this. They did caused it to happen, I'd rather hook em and get my points but no. Picks stupid map, picks 2x distance increase, bring wigglin perks and then complain that when downed in a corner of the map that I cannot make you leave where I already know I can't reach a hook that I don't pick them up. The hell is wrong with people?

Clearly, if you don't want that to happen then don't do everything in your power to give me no other choice... Your fault, not mine. So tired of this...

Survivors are catered to so much in this stupid game that when they don't get their way for once, its time to whine. This is why the entire classroom can't have nice things, because one group in the class always ruins it for the rest of them.

  • I've been saying this since it came out. The Killers should "destroy" boons.. Not snuff them.. The developers have extreme Survivor bias though, so I don't see them ever making that smart of a move. Everything is a perk.. Perk here, perk there.. Anything that could be an ACTUAL GOOD IDEA to have in the base game, just make it a perk.. Any mechanic that might be fun to introduce in the base game, just make it a perk...

The developers for this game are way too scared to change anything fundamental. Pretty sad tbh. Scared of your own fan bases reaction. What a life to live. xD

  • @SmolBlob said:

No game is fully server-sided, because that is an absolutely tremendous computational load for the servers to handle. Which is why even games with really well-developed anti-cheat systems still handle a lot of things on the client-side.

Didn't mean fully. Just MORE server sided..as much possible. I'm pretty sure it could be more server side than it currently is. At least I hope...

  • @Mr_K said:

Without the hatch they will sit and hide for as long as it takes for the killer to find them.

Maybe its really the player and not the mechanic.

They really should make it to where if you don't touch gens for like 60 seconds your aura is revealed. Period. No excuse not to do that at this point.

  • @Blueberry said:

They should start by reworking and shrinking lots of maps. That's the biggest issue.

Bingo. Hopefully they are already in the process of doing so. I would love to see something done to Red Forest and the new Knight map akin to what they did with Crows map.

  • Sad but true. The only people still playing Killer are in denial, wishing the role "felt" different than it does.

  • All great answers! 7th Anniversary is in June I believe so it really isn't too far off. Here is to hoping that we see what the majority would find enticing as well as whatever can draw as many new people to the game as possible. :)

  • Wish I could disagree with you............................but I just can't bring myself to do that...

  • @OrangeBear said:

I don't think the game is dying at all. I think people were disappointed with Forged in Fog chapter but that's it.

    Bingo.

  • They could easily reduce the # of pallets that appear... There should never be pallets within 10m of each other....on ANY map... Get rid of the "god pallet...turn the corner...another god pallet" spots...

I just saw a discussion on another forum about the upcoming survivor HUD which got me thinking and I'd like to hear your thoughts on it.

Do you think the HUD could lead to more toxicity between survivors?

In the discussion I mentioned above, quite a number of people said they intentionally will bring the killer to teammates who open chests, or clean totems, or leave teammates hooked who don't work on gens the entire match (unless they're in chase ) .

Now the rift and the challenges exist. I'm thinking of the typical "cleanse 8 totems", "open chests" or "hide in the killer's terror radius for 60 seconds without getting caught" challenges.

It would be really bad if people trying to do their challenges get trash talked by their teammates or left on hook just because they don't work the whole match on gens.

Many players have many different goals.

For some it's all about escaping, others are more casual and want to get their rift done.

Do you think there might be problems with that now that you can see what others are doing soon? And how would you react? Would you be mad if people try to do their challenges or wouldn't you care much?

I'd be surprised to see something that could add ANY MORE toxicity to this game than what it already has at the moment.. The devs allow it with stuff like end-game chat, and the community does it because they are naturally that way. The devs are the gateway. Take away end-game chat and you reduce almost 3/4ths of this games toxicity. In game is fine IMO.

  • I play it hoping that someday it will attract my friends that only play stuff like Apex Legends, Fortnite, and Destiny 2 while saying they don't want to play Generator Simulator. If they can do something to the game where it attracts an even broader audience, I'd be most impressed.

  • @pooPyrus said:

Playing killer, this game is incredibly depressing. Either I play a chill game of killer and am immediately gen rushed, or I play sweaty (ie; tunneling, slugging) and am immediately called a cringe sweat lord. It’s exhausting at this point and makes killer a serious physiological investment. This game should not be so mentally straining, and I should not have pstd after having a swf teabag in my face. Plz buff killer and/or nerf realms/map offerings.

One of the major things the devs need to do is just completely remove the ability to chat period. So much toxicity is spread simply through the end-game chat that it could literally cause someone to not play ever again, ESPECIALLY as Killer... I'm not sure why they think being able to chat in a game like this, where emotion runs so hot in many people, is a good idea. It's not. It's a really big factor of why the game is so toxic. Having people talk to you like this toward the end of any "GAME" would be a miserable experience. Be better than League of Legends...BHVR....

End-game chat adds literally nothing to the experience and I promise you it does NOT make people want to play again.... :/ I suppose we have to wait until they figure that out.. That is a big part of it for many I have spoken with though.

I will never understand why people load up into a game with the sole purpose to make others suffer. I have been working on an achievement since it came out. I have to open an exit gate and escape on RPD 20 times. I put it my steam bio, I gave fair warning to everyone in the queue, I turned off crossplay so that people can red my bio, I changed my steam name to Read My Bio, and the killers are just #########. Now, you dont have to let me do anything, but to sit there and camp me and tunnel me out, to sit there and deliberately come after me, knowing full well that I am working on an achievement, that is a new kind of low and I hope both sides of your pillow are warm tonight. What happened to the days when killers could meme around and have fun and goof off. Oh wait, MMR killed them all.

Blame the devs. All they have to do is simply disable the end game chat. Why they won't? I have no idea. Console players can't use it anyway. Not sure why you would have something like that in your game to breed toxicity.. Pretty stupid decision on their part. :/

So yeah the upcoming action icons are a very good thing for solo players but I started wondering whats gonna be else in this patch.

Im really hoping for more quality of life stuff again like little killer updates, perk reworks and good lord give killer higher fov. 5 degrees really would be enough its not gonna be as much of a difference as y'all make it out to be.

Mid-chapter updates always have big potential to being the best kind of updates so Im actually gonna get my hopes up a bit for this one.

    Anyone expecting something specific?

Where did they show the new icons? Haven't seen them yet tbh. And yes it is sad that the Killer FOV still hasn't been adjusted.. FOV for Killer in this game actually prevents many from even trying that 50% of the game, due to how zoomed in it is. It really should be raised.. The 1st person FOV atm is simply making the experience even more stressful/inconvenient for Killers and nothing else..

  • I think the Dead by Daylight devs succeed when it comes to "listening to player feedback". The only problem is they are absolutely horrid at "knowing when to ignore the fan base". Ever since I started playing this game, the motto seems to be 1 step forward, 2 steps back. Sucks to say, but at the end of the day, I really wish this type of game with so many well-known characters was in better hands.. :/

  • I've been saying they should do this for years.. I guess they don't want even more money...

  • @TheSwamp said:

Pointless pallet change dull ass texture getting me killed having to take a double take every time I play on coldwind the ######### be blending in

They do look terrible. The quality control department at BHVR must be blind if they think this new pallet texture is an "upgrade". Clearly someone up there wants this game to fail. Slowly but surely some developer is taking their sweet revenge out one false compliment at a time...

  • Of course not. It's a job.. Money, money, money.. We are all just a #. Keep the # happy and keep the money flowing. Passion always shows in the product. Never got that from DBD personally. This game has always felt like a kid waiting last minute to do all their homework and still getting an F when they turn it in. Pretty sad.

  • Stuff like this should ALWAYS be optional. Simply removing it was a stupid decision. Not out of the ordinary for BHVR I suppose..

  • @Huge_Bush said:

I was going to make a smart comment and say they should also introduce a gun that can kill the killer but after thinking about it, what you suggest would be nice if the devs made sure to balance the game around it all. Unfortunately, seems like BHVR has been stuck in a vicious cycle of releasing new mediocre content for the last several years.

New killers can only do so much, and now it's just the same old thing after a week of getting the same new killer over and over.

I disagree with things like crippling the killer. Killer should still be a fearsome thing to face, different ways to slow them down and maybe annoy them, but the core of the game is survivors running/hiding from the killer and that shouldn't change.

Yeah that "cycle" you speak of is a real thing. Sucks...

  • Tbh, they should make it impossible but whatever.. Doesn't make it easier for both sides or anything..

  • A gun with one shot.. Put a damn gun in the game already. A single gun with a single bullet in the clip spawns somewhere on the map. 1 gun, 1 bullet, 1 time use, and maybe give it a 1 sec stun if it hits. Its a short stun, but its ranged obviously. Use it only in a critical moment.

    Can't argue with that.

    Is it SoloQ ?

    Is it Survivor Perks ?

Honestly. I think we kinda need to know what the Problem actually is first before we can fix anything. As long as everyone is just complaining about different things, nothing is going to be done.

Now what is the actual Problem ? I tell you...

Its Quentin not having any Cosmetics. Why you doing my Boy like that BHVR ? I would love for some Cosmetics for him. Take my Money and Give it to us.

But for real, what do you think is the biggest Problem in DBD and how would you adress it ?

    Maps/BHVRs priority list

  • Survivor - Dead Hard: To have that guaranteed 3rd health state.

Killer - NOED: Until people learn to always cleanse.

While I do think there is a place for stealth in DBD, I think a lot of people tend to overestimate how much of a difference FOV makes for stealthy survivors. In fact, there's someone in this thread ( @Akumakaji ) who experimented running Shadowborn vs no Shadowborn, and found no noticeable difference against stealthy survivors.

Which does actually remind me of something - anyone who's against an FOV slider, but who's actually interested in the discussion instead of just being that guy, I encourage you to swap one of your perks for Shadowborn for a week. See if it makes a difference for you other than just feeling nice, and more than that, see if it makes up for the perk you had to replace to use Shadowborn. I'd be curious to see if anyone actually does this.

Same here. There is no difference for the Survivors... The Killers would really appreciate something like this though. It won't change the kill rates so I have no clue why it hasn't been addressed yet.

  • Legion was already reworked slightly. Highly doubtful they'll touch him again for a long long long long long long long long long long long long long long long long long long long.......long long long....long time. :/

  • Very surprised they haven't made some QoL improvements to Killer FoV at this point. The 360 tech isn't cool and it's not even fun to do. It's just annoying, unrealistic, and completely ruins immersion.

  • @Jallybwan said:

Let's say for a moment that instead of a slider, we had Shadowborn basekit with the option to switch back to 87 FOV. That would functionally make Shadowborn basekit while still allowing people who don't like higher FOV to switch back.

The amount of people who think this would be an unfair change is extremely weird to me. Borrowed Time was widely regarded as one of the strongest meta perks in DBD's history. And yet when it was made basekit, most people accepted it as being necessary for the game's health, because it was a good change and we recognized it as such. I recently found this Reddit post from 8 months ago (pre-basekit BT change) offering to trade basekit BT for basekit Shadowborn. Survivors got one of their strongest perks for free, while killers would've been getting a basic quality-of-life/accessibility perk in exchange. Fast forward to now, and it's hard to feel like this post hasn't aged like fine milk.

Why, then, do people react so strongly when Shadowborn basekit gets brought up? It's fine for a meta perk to become basekit in the name of game health, but it's not fine for a meme perk that some don't even consider a perk in the first place? It makes no sense to me. In the 6 years this game has been out I have seen countless posts complaining that they can't play certain killers - or killer at all - without Shadowborn, and yet somehow people still think it would be a bad change. I don't get it.

I was fully on-board with the basekit BT change, and I would be even more on-board with basekit Kindred. But at some point you just have to think - with so many perks becoming basekit, why shouldn't we have Shadowborn base? At the risk of sounding like an entitled killer one-trick, it just feels unfair. Idk. I get that not everyone suffers from motion sickness, but it still feels bad to have to waste a perk slot to not feel nauseous.

Sorry for the rant, I'm just sad and feel kinda scorned that we've heard nothing from BHVR about the slightest possibility of adjustable FOV.

Because they are uninformed. It wouldn't change kill rates at all.

  • Survivors have enough information options tbh. No thanks.

I don't live in Canada so who knows? Maybe game design is just another one of those things that works much differently over there.

Sounds like you don't have much experience playing AS Survivor. Why would a Survivor attempt to repair gens when the other survivor is also hiding, waiting for the hatch play situation the killer put them into..

Because its holding the game hostage as Survivor whereas the Killer camping a 3gen is not.

Killers can body block a survivor in a corner and not hit them (reportable, according to BHVR). The game ends when the server shuts down. There is literally nothing the survivor can do about that.

Very rarely happens... Whereas Survivors hiding and doing nothing goes on about 50% of the time. Unacceptable according to me.

  • There is a special kind of "jank" feeling to him no doubt.

  • @En3ermost said:

    My ideas:

    1) His yellow bottles can be good but are too clunky and awkward to set resulting in most people just ignoring them and never use them, decrease time to activate from 2.5 seconds to 1.5 seconds. Also make them affect the Clown only and not the survivors anymore.

    2) Give him 1 more bottle in his base kit.

    3) Make the Clown able to set his purple bottles down on the ground that explode after a survivor comes near. This would work both as a pre set trap in loops and as a form of information if the bottle is put near generators. Max 5 bottles could be set on the ground at a time and survivors can prevent the detonation by crouch walking like hag traps.

    4) Make the instadown pinky finger effect apply only if the bottle hit the survivor from 12 or more meters away. No more cheap instadown shots when you're right under the survivor's nose.

    What do you think?

I would combine his bottles into one. The bottles would still be the pink smoke, but they would slow Survivors WHILE ALSO speeding up the Clown and ONLY speeding up the Clown. I'd also give him a Jack in the Box when he kicks a gen, it'll automatically set a Jack in the Box on it add random affect to whoever does that Generator until its complete. Like Blindness, Oblivious, etc.

  • I completely agree. Freddy is trash... He needs more that HE CAN DO with his power.

Nemesis's zombies are the most annoying thing in any game I've ever played, and that's not just the saltiness talking. Why the hell can zombies not only alert the killer of your location, but also prevent you from doing generators? Not to mention the fact they block off loops mid chase which is complete BS. Never in the world should any killer have NPCs to help them, they were a dumb idea to begin with. At the very least make it so we can kill zombies if they miss an attack, just like you can with Victor. Every game with Nemesis is just unfun because he can be the worst killer to ever live and still get easy downs with his zombies.

I thought this game was about trials, where you were supposed to see how well as a team you worked against a killer, meaning that the killer's ability was also being tested. How tf is it testing a killer's ability to kill when their NPCs do like 50% of the work every game? This isn't an understatement either, it's almost a free win every game unless you have some god tier survivor that loops the killer most of the time (which only works assuming he's a garbage killer and stays on them most of the game). It's nonstop BS and I'm surprised more people rant about the Nurse than this.

Also just as a side rant, when the ######### will killer lag be fixed? One guy literally teleported behind me in a chase and got a free M1 out of it. It's not my internet either, I've triple checked.

It's posts like this that the developers have to listen to and convince them to not fix the Zombies GLARING issues... Majority of the time the Zombies are terrible. Sorry if you are so bad at the game that stationary AI gets you. I'd get a kick out of seeing how you play I'm sure.
