  • That's a true "fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me" situation for the Legion in question, like with a lot of the tricks people try in DBD.

If they repeatedly fall for it they only have themselves to blame. Even if they have bad performance for whatever reason they can at least take steps to make it less likely they miss, like wait to see if you react similarly the next time and then hit you. So no, not "toxic".

  • Moris could be changed/reworked but not removed really, work goes into making the animations and while you could accomplish any achievement or challenge involving "killing someone by your own hands" with Devour Hope or even Rancor with some truly ascended obsession juggling, in one way or another they should probably exist.

SWF because it's an expected feature in modern multiplayer games featuring any form of team play. Expected on a level that's simply "above" game-specific and genre-specific balance concerns, it's an expectation that essentially exists on an industry level.

  • Some people have very strange definitions of what's "toxic", like someone that smacks you after a long chase might blame you as a player for a strong tile setup that you used well. To them you're a "tryhard", tryhards are "toxic", therefore you're toxic. Just like some survivors might consider it camping even though some dumbass is straight up looping the killer right next to the hook. People might feel completely "justified" for reasons that are hard for someone that doesn't agree with them to even think of.

And not everyone agrees on this one, but in some situations it's more of a playful "Gotcha!" than anything. Like just yesterday I read a Billy's mindgames a few times and when he finally got me he gave me a smack and spun his camera around before going to do his Billy business. At that point it's just a little celebration, and personally I view stuff like a quick little bouncy tbag, point or the "crouch and look up" thing survivors do sometimes in similar ways. I'm well aware plenty of people might disagree here, but that's my take at least.

Aaand some people just "play for salt". Their goal isn't really to win, they "win" if other player(s) show signs of anger or annoyance during or after the match. Not much more to say there.

  • Honestly, when probability gives you lemons... just laugh it off.

The first step is to accept the following.

    • Anything with a probability of less than 1 isn't guaranteed to ever happen without infinite attempts
    • Anything with a probability of more than 0 can happen countless times in a row

That's extreme of course, you'd have to play a lot of DBD to ever run into absurdly unlikely scenarios like failing to get out of a beartrap 500 times in a row or jumping off the hook 500 times in a row, but just embrace the fact that it's possible 😄

  • The DCs might have made the hook-rushing survivor sorta just.. give up? Even if they're in a salvageable situation they might just think "screw it" wanting to move on no matter what happens. At least DCers are timed out if they keep doing it. And for disconnectors in general.. sometimes there's really no reason besides a good old irrational ragequit.

And it might have been changed while you were gone, but BBQ's aura range doesn't scale with level anymore. Now the max amount of stacks scale instead, 2/3/4 at each level. So you have the same aura range/radius at all levels.

Second Wind fully activates even if you’re double healing. I’ve used the perk a lot. The trick is that you have to start the heal not the other teammate.

And Inner Strength gives Survival Bloodpoints just not healing emblem points.

Oh really? Huh, I'll have to remember that hint about second wind in that case, and my bad on the inner strength as I should really have known that - I use that perk a fair bit. Thanks for the correction. 👍️

Honestly only makes it stranger that FTP is an anomaly then. I certainly believe they should give FTP the same treatment, as it's clearly possible to award points directly instead of per charge if needed then.

True but devs can punish and band them. Make it clear their toxic attitudes are not welcome in the game.

    Always report toxic players.

Unless they're being toxic in chat (as in doing stuff actually against the rules like threats, slurs and so on) or exploit outlawed bugs while being toxic any report you make about it is discarded. So no, it doesn't matter how many people report them if they're just tbagging, flashlight clicking, calling others bad in general or saying ggez and that sort of #########. Because they're not valid reasons to report someone in the first place, just like stuff like camping or tunneling.

"Press the Active Ability button while healing another Survivor without a med-kit to instantly heal"

    That's a quote from the perk's description

And it really should avoid using the word "heal" unless the way it works is changed, as it doesn't seem like it's treated as a regular heal.

Points given for healing are given per charge as you fill the bar. Second wind requires a full bar worth of charges, if you heal someone with another survivor for example the best you can get is second wind halfway to activation.

I'd assume FTP skips the bar entirely. It doesn't instantly fill the bar when you use it "behind the scenes", it just immediately gives them 1 health state and takes away 1 health state from you. It's sorta like you don't get points for healing yourself when Adrenaline or Inner Strength activates.

EDIT: I'm wrong about second wind to some extent and entirely wrong about inner strength here, see below!

  • You sorta can... but only during the camera spin at the start of a match! That's still kind of before the match, no? 😄

Press escape (or the console equivalent bringing up the "pause" menu), then press it again to close it and suddenly you can tbag and click a flashlight before you gain control of your survivor to confuse any fellow survivors you spawned with! Might even be able to place the beam if you have that one map addon, I've never tried.

  • I play normally.

  • Pay some attention to what gens get finished, and if possible which gens are being worked on. It's almost like just taking a moment to think "hmm, did both gens done so far happen to be close to eachother? Maybe I should try to work on one of the three in a tight cluster over there..." can Considerably decrease the risk of a 3gen being given away for free 🤔

  • To be fair it's a clear minority that insists on laughable pipe dreams like the removal of SWF or outlawing of voice comms. They should be pitied if anything, it can't be nice to be doomed to forever scream fruitlessly into a void that never answers them.

I can imagine SWF indicators after matches as well as BP/XP bonuses for killers (and solo survivors, if you want to throw in some solo incentivization as well), but anything that goes "further" than that seem extremely unlikely to me.

    in SWF Comment by oxygen
  • Hard disagree, they're one of the only truly interesting items in the game unlike boring toolboxes that just make a bar fill faster, and basic medkits that make you fill another bar faster but with the added bonus of being able to heal yourself.

And come on, you "shouldn't have to look at a wall if you don't want to", really? You have a great counter available right there whenever you down someone near a wall, if you don't use it then it's your fault if you get blinded as a result. Should NOED be removed because someone "doesn't want to do totems"?

Someone hiding nearby sort of has to predict when you're about to pick someone up unless they're hiding extremely close to you. Fake the pickup, spin around and unless they're behind a tree right next to the downed survivor you can often see them going for the save. If they keep their cool and wait for you to actually pick up and then get the save then they simply did a good flashlight save.

  • It's an advantage (even without comms you can know how the others play/their skill level and loadouts) but the only changes that have a snowball's chance in hell of even being considered are bonuses/incentives for killers (and solo survivor play even) and SWF indicators after a match.

No sane modern developer would seriously consider implementing something that even feels like "punishment" or disincentivization based on party play. And they shouldn't do so either, as the expectation of being able to freely play with people without mechanical handicaps once a match starts exists on what is basically an industry level, straight up "above" balance concerns.

    Thats not hostage

Noones forcing you to stay, noone is holding you down.

Just do a gen. If he stops you by hitting a timer starts if he doesn't stop you do the gen and leave

    Killer can't take hostage

How do I "just do a generator" if every survivor that's still alive is trapped and unable to get to one unless the killer hits someone, and the killer doesn't hit anyone? Again, the devs have fixed a lot of the infamous spots where this was possible, but areas with one entrance/exit that's small enough for the killer to block it if they want still exist.

  • @emptyCups said:

Killers physically can't take the game hostage by any means

The survivor either died to the killers actions or escapes due to his inactions.

If he won't let you escape by standing at a gate do the other one lol

If he won't kill you just walk out ?

    I don't get it

If a killer blocks all the remaining survivors in a way that makes it impossible for EGC to ever start and refuses to let them go, they can very much take the game hostage.

The devs have slowly but surely gotten rid of spots like this by making sure there's 2 ways out of areas that previously only had one entrance/exit, but if a spot like it is found and the killer does so it's the very definition of taking the game hostage (unlike silly claims like saying camping is taking the game hostage) - there's no possible way out of the match besides disconnecting.

Thompson House used to be pretty bad for this. Both the area by the house basement staircase AND the staircase upstairs allowed for this, and I've been trapped in such a rule-breaking way in both areas. Not just me, but all the survivors so there's absolutely no way out of the match other than to DC.

  • SWF parties have been supposed to be ranked based on the highest rank in the party for a good while now. A party of 1-20-20-20 is supposed to be matched with a rank 1 killer in perfect conditions, you can't intentionally get a lower rank killer by letting a low rank party host anymore.

Now matchmaking is just a mess no matter if SWF is involved, so it's purely coincidental.

  • For that to work it would pretty much have to involve what would basically be a complete rework of how a match is supposed to go to avoid the situation where the only things any survivor should be doing is either actively get chased or work on a generator. Hooking, saving and all of that is a big part of DBD if you ask me.

And I'm not imaginative enough to think of how such a complete rework would look to be honest 😄

  • AFKing is mentioned under the "unsportsmanlike" reporting category, and there's no further specification that explains when it's okay (if ever) and when it isn't. So if you feel it should be punishable, you're perfectly justified in reporting it properly (in-game + submit a ticket with evidence, I'd assume)

Personally I probably wouldn't be bothered as it's very very rare I ever run into AFK players like that, I'll just escape asap and get a new match. But unless I'm missing something you're not in the wrong whatsoever if you decide to submit a proper report after encountering an AFK player.

"Oh man, I'm sick of killers blocking people in the endgame and taking the game hostage."

*adds EGC to force an end to game*

"We're still going to ban that fool, though."

If no one opened a gate and the killer never moved, would everyone be reportable?

That's another thing I do wonder actually. In such a situation, is any side expected or obligated to be the one to make the game move on? Seems sorta like the old hatch stalemate if neither side is in the wrong if they refrain from taking any actions that move the game towards an end 😄

  • @Peanits said:

Unfortunately you can't, but as they're doing it before the collapse started, it would be reportable.

Is this the definitive stance on the legality of blocking people to let EGC kill them? It's reportable if started before EGC begins?

I don't really mind if it's done with all gens done or something, but I totally agree it should be heavily discouraged to do it early game even though it's not technically taking the game hostage indefinitely. But it would be nice to have a definitive answer.

  • Same as I said in the other thread really. Don't do stuff that straight up breaks the rules, don't justify doing so, don't dish out "toxicity" if you can't handle recieving it and and don't play with "making others mad" as a primary motivation.

how is there no reason? If the dude just got unhooked then he's still probably injured and the next hook on him is a higher chance of him dying which is the objective of killers. It happens all the time when someone unhooks, healthy dude goes left and injured dude goes right why would you EVER go left unless you're just trying to be nice.

To not get hit by BT + DS if you can't afford to eat it? Even with just DS they're basically a healthy target as you'll have to hit them twice to put them on a hook again just like a healthy survivor, if BT is used as well they're basically healthier than a regular healthy survivor.

You can of course down them and just wait out DS, but at that point you're basically camping a survivor that isn't even going through the sacrifice process on a hook. If a bad save is made and you can quickly slug them and immediately get on the unhooker that's some easy free pressure though of course.

  • Don't pointlessly be an ass and don't actively hurt other survivors, that's pretty much it.

My definition of "being an ass" is probably more restricted than it is for many, as I don't really care about stuff like tbagging and flashlight clicking as a concept. Sometimes people do it to try to get my attention, and if they don't get it they go off to do something else like a generator. There's no denying it's effective at times from a team-based perspective, as some killers will throw a match just to kill someone doing either.

And when I say actively hurting other survivors, I mean stuff like bodyblocking to get people killed or repeatedly bringing the killer to others trying to recover or straight up farming people that aren't close to transitioning to the next stage on the hook while making no attempt to protect them. I don't like it when people are simply harmfully negligent like not saving people or basically playing for hatch from the start, but they're allowed to do so if they want.

And oh, this goes for everyone (then again so does "don't pointlessly be an ass"), but don't be a hypocrite when it comes to "toxic" stuff either. If you do something commonly considered toxic, don't cry when your opponent(s) do it back. Don't dish it out if you can't take it.

  • "Our game" lmao, DBD doesn't "belong" to any group in particular. Except BHVR, of course.

  • The achievement for killing everyone with a Mori, "Blood on your Face". I think there's one for doing your first mori as well.

Technically you could get it with Devour Hope, and we want to be really optimistic it's not impossible to get it even with Rancor and some superhuman obsession swapping trickery. But just like the "Where did they go?" or whatever the 4-man key escape achievement is called they pretty much guarantee that the mechanics of the mori and some way to open the hatch will remain in the game no matter what.

Isn't taking the game hostage at all, other Survivors can do gens and leave, nothing is stopping them from not getting killed because they are running around Killer and trying to get Survivor off hook. Not taking hostage at all. Game can still progress.

Toxic? Insidious is there for a reason, "facecamping"... Perks are not toxic.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1253179#Comment_1253179

Bleeing out has a timer, so you can't be toxic with it. Game continues, Survivor eventually dies. DS is used by pretty much every Survivor, a Killer leaving a Survivor to bleed out can be argued as a tactic rather than being toxic. Besides, I let Survivors bleed out sometimes - guess what they deserve it.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1253180#Comment_1253180

Gen-rushing isn't a thing... completing gens is the objective. Completing them on purpose is NOT toxic. NOT completing them on purpose IS toxic.

    Well, guess I'm right then...

If you want to consider it a tactic, sure. But I don't see why you'd ever select it unless picking them up carries any form of risk, as it gives you less emblem score, points and takes longer (especially ever since the last survivor always insta-dies on the hook). Outside of certain situation (possible DS, lack of hooks nearby) it just seems like a very poor tactic.

Doing something "annoying" in an attempt to win is one thing. Doing it when it can only make the end result worse emblem and point-wise doesn't make it seem like a very good tactic to me.

Unless it's done with the explicit intent to annoy, of course. But that's the very definition of in-match toxicity to me (besides straight up cheating or otherwise breaking rules), having "making people mad" as a primary motivation.

  • For what you say about "killers being unable to be toxic" what about letting the last survivor bleed out on the ground when there's no tactical reason to do so (no DS possible, plenty of hooks nearby so even an unlikely flip-flop play can't happen and so on)? That seems like a completely pointless action with no purpose other than annoying someone to me.

But then again that same intent-based definition of toxicity applies to facecamping for me as well. If someone does it at endgame or something it can be a perfectly sound decision, if someone does it specifically to annoy people I don't see the point as I find the whole "playing for salt" thing incredibly childish no matter who does it.

  • @elvangulley said:

why not slug they dont care about killers fun

For me it's actually because I don't find it fun to do it as killer anyway.

I'd much rather make the game end faster and get into a new game. Sometimes I get them, sometimes they get hatch - either way I get what I want 😄

  • Doing stuff that breaks the rules and especially attempting to justify it in any way.

Stuff done with the primary and/or sole intent of making someone mad. "Playing for salt", if you want to call it that.

Aaaand that's it. I don't consider any specific action (besides the aforementioned rule breaking/justification of it) itself inherently toxic.

  • If I see the last survivor or if they make a sound notification right as I down the penultimate survivor.

Beyond that I personally simply can't be bothered, I'd much rather get in a fresh game as soon as possible.

  • @Kyxlect said:

Update: 100% confirmed that SWF's can hide that they're SWF's. I know it for a fact now because the last two games I had were against SWF's! I carefully looked on each persons profile in their friends list and saw that it only says they're online. Sometimes it says they're in DbD so you can tell who's an SWF and who isn't by comparing lobby names. So I guess it's a privacy setting on Steam or something. Can't really show proof because I don't know if that'd be considered 'naming and shaming' on the forums, even though these SWF scumbags deserve to be shamed.

Be careful out there, fellow Killer's. I never supported the idea of backing out of a lobby until now. It's just way too unfair to even bother.

That's just hiding "Game Details" or whatever on Steam, it hides if they're in-game and the games info part of their profile (like 3 most recently played games + the hours they have in them and achievements). It doesn't hide SWF at all because if someone is on another player's friends list with the same avatar and name as another survivor in the lobby then it's obviously the same person and they're together.

And no, they don't "deserve to be shamed". They're not doing anything that's against any rules whatsoever.

  • Nothing, there's very little if anything to be gained from responding in the first place.

  • Either say GG or nothing as a direct response, there's honestly no point going "actually... it was BG!" if you ask me.

And no matter how the match went I just assume people say it because it has been the go-to polite thing to say after a match for what, decades at this point? If someone wants to be paranoid and worry that someone "actually meant git gud" or is saying it ironically or something that just seems pointless to me.

This isn't a game where stuff like ggez is moderated afterall. When you can say ggez and tell people they're garbage without getting banned, someone that wants to be a jerk is going to make it crystal clear the vast majority of the time.

'' but ultimately it doesn't even matter.''

Yes it does, Killer don't want to play agains a team who can bypass on of their build in weakness without even trying, it not fun, it not fair. Would you think survivor like it if Huntress used a cross-air to improve aiming? Or would you find it fair if Nurse could use a outside program to know her blink range without using addon?

    ''like seperate queues,''

No killer would go in SWF queues unless they bring some Incredibly digusting top tier build on top 3 killer with a pink mori and their best addon. add to the fact it would take longer to find a game overall and some people would probably leave the game cause they can't go in normal queue as SWF and destroy noob killer.

I don't really care if a huntress uses a crosshair as worrying about it is sort of a waste of time to begin with. There's monitors with completely undetectable built-in firmware crosshair overlays, so all one can really do is shrug and accept that it might happen because it's unfeasible to prevent people from doing it in the first place.

I don't really see a way a Nurse could get that effect without using some form of "traditional" cheat program, something that unlike VOIP apps is not explicitly allowed by the developers and EAC. So no, that wouldn't be okay and is part of what anticheat should aim to prevent.

And... that's part of what I meant? I said that the usual ways games try to balance parties vs solos wouldn't work in DBD due to its genre and design. You can't really do team vs team because it's 1v4, you can't really do seperate queues and it doesn't seem like the devs are too keen on implementing in-game voice chat.

What I mean by "it doesn't matter" is that anything that's more "punishing" than bloodpoint/xp modifiers, maaaaybe SWF indicators and changes to base balance (the "buff solos and killers" approach, where the overall "powerlevel" of the entire game is raised and then balance is done around that) just seems very unrealistic. And that sort of thing doesn't seem good enough to plenty of people, who insist on handicaps applied to parties instead. Something that goes against that established expectation of being able to play with other people in multiplayer games without restrictions or disincentivization once the match starts, and therefore has an extremely low chance of even being seriously considered by any sane developer.

Is it a perfect solution? No, because no perfect solutions exist here.

  • There's no real way to "close the gap" between solos and SWF, but ultimately it doesn't even matter.

The expectation of being able to play with and talk to other people without anything that even feels like restrictions, handicaps or disincentivization exists on a level that's quite simply above things like game genres and balance concerns. It's an established expectation for multiplayer video games that will to some extent quite simply going to override balance concerns if the design of the game in question doesn't really work with traditional attempts to balance it (like seperate queues, matching parties vs parties or just putting voice comms in the game to begin with).

  • 100 little baby blinks that are 1 meter each? That's what the tiny cutesy orbs there make me think of.

Free mori for SWF without a hook. 50% debuff for SWF when it comes to repair and healing. No items for survivors. Only killers can play map offerings.

I genuinely had to have a little think before properly figuring out that you're joking.

And I don't really know how that should make me feel. Like, I've seen ideas about harsher SWF debuffs than 50% be posted on this forum seemingly unironically and it's kinda making it hard to tell jokes and laughable pipe dreams apart not gonna lie 😄

  • Silly/ironic posts in this thread already pointed it out nicely, but it's not really going anywhere.

Once someone can convince themselves that the loss "didn't really count", some people will pounce right on it. Doesn't matter if they can find a reason or they have to straight up make it up on the fly.

  • @Rin_is_my_waifu said:

Killer main who plays both sides?? 🤔

Someone that prefers killer but also plays survivor. That's a killer main that plays both sides, unless there's requirements I'm unaware of that must be fulfilled before someone can call themselves a killer main.

  • Because it wasn't the topic of the Q&A? If they didn't limit the questions they answer every single Q&A would just be re-runs of the same questions, just look at the stuff people make threads about no matter what is going on in and around the game.

And what exactly do you expect them to say if they bring it up anyway? Because I have a feeling that beyond the usual "closing the gap" talk it'd at absolute most be stuff like bonus points and maaaaaybe SWF indicators after/before/both matches. I find it extremely hard to even imagine they'd even consider anything "more" than that.

  • While in theory there is still a way out of the match other than disconnecting (one survivor getting away and doing gens) I'm curious what exactly this is considered as well, if it does count as taking the game hostage. It's certainly uh, "non-consensual farming" that's for sure.

  • Whatever works for you, personally I've learned throughout the years that's the best thing I can do if I feel burned out on a game I love is to take a break. I've done it with DBD twice after grinding the hell out of it during extended events, and more times than I can count with games like Team Fortress 2.

For me anyway it always seems to let me come back to the game with rejuvenated interest. But I guess this is something that's different from person to person, and everyone just has to find their way of dealing with it through trial and error 👍️

  • Depends, I don't really have any particular rules and it mostly just comes down to if I feel like doing so.

In the specific situation where the hatch both spawns and opens nearby while I'm carrying a survivor I'm probably more likely to let them have it than any other situation, at that point it's like the game is trying to tell me they're supposed to escape or something 😄

no one using phone for voice chatting... at least no one bother... If you using phone just DO it... I bet none of your friend want to do that... same like buying walkie talkie for only playing this game...

I am 100% + 100% sure they use discord on pc... not using their own phone... except they play DBD mobile and use discord on phone...

If PC software that running behind [game].exe I am quite sure Devs team can stop that program...

Steam has built-in voice chat, and the same goes for PS4 and XBone. Not sure about Switch, and Mobile is obviously already on a phone to begin with.

So unless they wanted to do something like straight up block all microphone input while DBD is running (byebye to streamers wanting to talk while playing I guess) they'd need to get Valve, Sony and Microsoft's "blessing" to disable their own built-in voice chat applications to accomplish it, and I sorta have a feeling that they wouldn't be too thrilled by that idea as all 3 have gone all-in on making gaming a social thing for well over a decade at this point.

  • The expectation of being able to play with (and talk with) friends without stuff that feels like punishment or disincentivization will always straight up override balance concerns in modern multiplayer games. It's just that in most games it doesn't really matter as they're symmetrical, but something as trivial as a game's genre doesn't stand a chance against an established industry expectation.

There's things that can be done, but the only things I can even imagine ever being done is stuff like bloodpoint/XP modifiers and bonuses, SWF indicators after the match and maybe before the match, even though that would probably come with disincentivizations to lobby dodging included to be honest.

  • They're not directly comparable but they're disliked for similar reasons, as they can both end the match in a way that feels premature for one or more players

  • I'm pretty sure I remember hearing of this, but no clue if it works with dedicated servers.

And I doubt it'd be bannable for the simple reasons that you're not changing anything in the game files, and outside of a confession it's also probably impossible to prove anyone did it in the first place.

The obvious answer is no, it doesn't make the game unfair. But I feel like they purposefully did that instead of asking the question the correct way, 'Do you consider Tbagging to be toxic behavior?'. I don't know where they were trying to go with that question.

If it was phrased like that and went through all the things people might consider toxic I'd be genuinely super interested in seeing the results. Opinions are so varied when it comes to that stuff so it'd be quite interesting to see answers with a bigger sample size than a forum thread asking "Is X toxic?"

Stuff like tbagging, letting people bleed out for the hell of it and so on seems pretty commonly considered toxic but I wonder how many people consider other stuff like bodyblocking, camping and more to be "inherently toxic"

  • Even if we straight up ignore the entire balance debate around NOED it's quite simply always going to be a perk that people complain about, because it leads to situations that can feel bad and unfun.

You play perfectly all game and then get hit by NOED, or you do 4 totems because no one else can be bothered and while looking for the last one you get found and end up going down to NOED. And since NOED by definition only activates at endgame, it's more likely than usual you get camped, and less likely than usual you get saved. That feels bad, and it's quick to use words like cheap, unfair or unbalanced in place of simply "bad". It's like genuinely getting hit by DS when you feel like you shouldn't get hit by it, even though the perk is working as its implementation describes it doesn't feel right.

So no, people will probably never grow tired of complaining about NOED. Is that mindset resulting from the "it feels bad" line of thought entirely rational or objective? Of course not, but it's always going to put some people in the mood to make complaints.

And for the record, I don't even have much of an issue with NOED as a concept to begin with. I like ideas like an indirect totem counter, like an audio cue when a dull totem is broken so people still have to pay attention. Because then you might avoid the almost tragedy of the commons-like situation where players ignore totems because "everyone else does", which in the end might make survivors take totems more seriously and therefore spend some time on them.
