Even if we ignore the intrusive side of something like that, ultimately it's pointless as it can very easily be circumvented. All you need is to set some unused and not operational microphone as your OS default, and set your real mic as the setting in Discord (or any other VOIP app). DBD (and any other app that just listens to the default audio input device) won't pick up a squeak, Discord works like normal. And apps don't listen to all input devices, just like they don't output audio to something like laptop speakers, seperate plugged-in speakers and headphones at the same time by default either.
And if you don't have something like that, such as a disabled laptop mic or something.... just install a Virtual Audio Cable, don't actually set it up to be functional at all and then set that as your default "microphone", so anyone can do it.
So you have a system that makes people angry because it's invasive and it doesn't actually accomplish what you set out to do in the first place.
-
That isn't a survivor thing. Or a DBD player thing or even gamer thing. It's a human thing. Just think of all the "80% of drivers think they're in the top 50% of drivers" style statistics. People generally overestimate their own ability at things and it takes a surprising amount of self awareness to realize "wow, I'm actually kinda trash at this thing that I enjoy. but I can improve!"
But yeah you're not wrong.
-
If people dislike when survivors bodyblock with the BT effect I can understand it. I don't blame survivors for doing it, as if the rescuer is injured for example it can be a very understandable play to make, if they're not... it's just sorta silly of them to do it. Same for people that just zombie hookrush, that sucks even for the survivor on the hook at times even if they get BT and it's enabled by the perk.
I don't really know a great way to change this part of it though. Making it not work on protection hits would just straight up make it not work at all if used against a camper and the unhooker is injured, because then they'll probably hit the unhooked survivor near the injured savior and it'll be a protection hit more often than not. And it's sorta intended to be used against camping/tunneling killers, unless they're just standing there staring at the hook surely that sort of killer will be able to realize all they have to do is to hit the savior on the way to the hook to cancel BT, then they can hit the unhooked survivor again.
@SloppyKnockout posted an idea of making it so the safe unhook points aren't awarded if the Endurance effect is used which might discourage mindless hook farming without actually changing how well it protects the unhooked survivor.
And if people genuinely dislike a perk for being an anti camping/tunneling tool in the first place then they simply have a mindset that's incompatible with anything the devs will do. Yeah, they won't add systems that try to make camping or tunneling mechanically impossible (for good reasons), but there will always be perks to help against it, and there should be. Part of a reason why I agree DS should have its anti-tunneling powers buffed while getting deactivation conditions to make it less useful for more "aggressive" purposes, for example.

I'm more stunned with how fast he left that match rofl. Talk about muscle memory smh...
This lmao.
It reminds the people in Call of Duty that can start -> scroll to leave match -> leave match in like 0.1 seconds. If it's on a stream or in a video you just see the start menu for like 1 frame and they're already outta there ๐
-
It's okay to use anything that's in the game that is working as intended. And when I talk about "not working as intended" I don't mean stuff like "people use DS offensively!" I mean stuff like "Wake Up applies to all actions instead of just gates, even though the description clearly states it's only supposed to work for gates".
It's fine and even good to make your grievances with perks or whatever else known, but it's perfectly okay if a player uses something you dislike.

Love how survivor exploits are being ignored.
If this had a benefit to killers it would have been fixed in a week.
Stretched res literally makes the game unplayable but they are not changing how the game interacts with it are they?
They tried to fix it with the Silent Hill chapter, if you're talking about the see-who-the-killer-is thing. But people found another way to do it in a few days. I've seen posts talking about some sort of log file encryption being tried on the recent PTB and if that's true that should take care of the problem for good.
Stretched res can only be fixed by changing the way the game treats resolution from the ground up. DBD is a borderless windowed mode game that doesn't even have resolution options, it just matches a player's desktop resolution to fill the entire screen and the only in-game way to mess with it is resolution scaling as opposed to traditional resolution options.
The only real way to fix it is to enforce exclusive fullscreen mode with "approved" resolution options maintaining a monitor's aspect ratio.
-
I'm not saying that's what happened, but it MIGHT have been that bug where the wrong killer power was shown at the end game scoreboard.
I've seen a fellow survivor say something similar before after a match against a Hag, something like "That's a cool demogorgon skin you got there" and in that case the end-game scoreboard actually reported their killer power as Demogorgon's (along with not showing their perks).
EDIT: And this seems to be client side too, so some players might see it while others don't. When I played survivor with a friend we had different people affected by the no-perks bug in the same end-game lobby.
If they said what they said and they had Calm Spirit (unless it was the survivor with that very same "no perks" bug there) that'd be a ๐ค moment. But even then the only way to actually do something about the whole see-who-the-killer-is thing is to make it so people can't actually do it (fix the log file). Because unless they explicitly admit that was what they were doing there's no way to actually conclusively prove they did it.
-
If MMR actually makes players on both sides more evenly distributed among the "ranks" dodging will become quite the non-issue, as if a killer dodges a lobby a new one will take their place very quickly. This already often happens, where I'm in a lobby as a survivor and the killer leaves, and it only takes a few seconds for another one to join. It's not like in the P2P days where every dodge meant a re-queue, and even re-invite for SWF parties back before parties remained between matches.
And that's now. When there's way more red rank and even rank 1 specifically survivors than killers because of how emblems work and all of that. Even if MMR isn't perfect but it does a better job than ranks it'll be even less of an issue.
And besides, I can't think of any way killer-specific MMR (a rather requested feature) can be added without killer lock. It's a both or neither sort of situation.
-
I'd say adding Soul Guard on top of DS + UB is sorta overkill and not really that much stronger than DS + UB on its own.
DS + UB is really strong, but all I'd really want changed about it is making DS a more specialized anti-tunneling perk with deactivation conditions like hook another survivor.
Either way shaming players for using something that's strong is whiny scrub behavior no matter if it's a killer and survivor that's doing it and I wish people in general stopped doing so. If you think a perk or perk combo is too much direct your grievances at the perks, not the player. (Not directing this at OP, more of a general statement as it's really rampant with the whole "if u use <perk/perks> ur bad" stuff)
-
Considering how it's at least supposed to work for ranks, I'd imagine it'll be similar and matches off the highest MMR. If not that some sort of average or average + a little bit extra on top of that.
-
There's not really any way I can think of that you could combine killer-specific MMR and the ability to switch killers in the lobby. It's a both or neither sort of situation. Just make it so survivors can't switch their loadouts out for the last 30-20 seconds of the lobby timer so they can't last second switch or something. Yeah you still can't switch to Plague if there's 4 medkits or whatever, but at least you get some time to look at what they're really bringing into the match and adjust accordingly.
Obviously if all 5 players ready up at the same time at any point before that, the game starts like normal. So if you insta-ready and then the survivors quickswitch and ready up before you can react... perhaps wait until they're locked from switching things up next time.
And yes of course this doesn't solve the issue of the lobby viewer/see-who-the-killer-is garbage. But the only way that can be solved is by patching up the source of that information itself, which I'm sure is doable. There's no way to justifiably ban anyone for it unless they admit to it themselves, as there's no way BHVR or EAC could ever detect it with the way it works, so the only way to stop it is to make it impossible to do.
-
I have a lot of them so I'd rather make my own unofficial 2x BP event shared with anyone that gets in my lobby instead ๐
-
That's just a regular flashlight save though, which you do while the killer is picking someone up. Unless they're a moth that stares at the pretty lights of course.
It's as easy to do with a pimped out purple flashlight as with a yellow you found in a chest, the only difference is that if one has batteries or something you get more attempts out of it and the blind might last longer. You just gotta be in the right place at the right time and nail the timing and there you go.
EDIT: It is pretty hard as far as challenges go though, as it's not something everyone knows how to do. They might be way too aggressive and make it obvious they're chasing the... chase around, or simply not know the timing when they do get the perfect chance. But if all else fails you'll eventually run into a killer farming one of their stupid challenges (like grabs) who will probably help you out ๐
-
It has always been relatively common (and good) if you ask me. Not only does it work wonders against stealth killers, but it's obviously good for those who play "immersed" as well. Say what you want about the playstyle, it's a good perk for it.
Oh, and the vaulting build with resilience of course. That build gaining popularity certainly made spine chill appealing to even more players.
-
I've had some times where Whispers has granted me some walls/ESP accusations. Hmmm, whispers is on in this corner with no way for them to get past me unseen, and they're not on the gen... lets try this locker and what do you know, there they are! And sometimes it seems like people have no clue that Nurse's Calling is a perk as well.
Also been accused of stretched res by a killer that never switched up their mindgames, making themselves incredibly easy to predict from the very first chase. Always doubled back first time, then held W, then doubled back, repeat for the whole match. But nooo, they have "evidence" of me using stretched res now according to them ๐คก
-
Regardless if they did it with 4x BNP or simply juiced up "regular" toolboxes and prove thyself they can only really do that to one generator. At that point they've used up their resources after dumping a bunch of bloodpoints directly into the generator in question ๐
Personally I'd rather have all 4 do one gen as opposed to have them spread out doing seperate gens even with toolboxes like that, but I understand that it can be frustrating. I sorta like the idea of some sort of hard cap on both speedup and slowdown of generator repairs, sorta like how healing is capped at +100% no matter how much We'll Make It, Botany Knowledge and green medkit you try to stack. Could take care of edge cases on both ends of the spectrum without messing with base speed.

Unpopular opinion and I play survivor normally. Remove coms. It is a survival horror game.
If you are across the map you shouldn't be able to call out via coms to other survivors. That's just my opinion. I always run solo que because I hate the chatter over coms.
I guess if you want info, run info perks?
There's a reason it's a fairly unpopular opinion, it's simply impossible to enforce in a way that wouldn't be considered unacceptably intrusive.
And all the ways that might actually be considered seriously by any game dev could easily be circumvented, again defeating the entire point of it.
-
Points + it's funny when it works.
And by "works" I don't mean entirely losing the killer. Even just gaining 1-2 extra seconds of distance because the killer walked the wrong direction while blind can be beneficial, and the times when you do pull a complete Houdini before the killer regains their vision feels great too.
-
Did they block you there before EGC started? Because it sure sounds that way from your post.
Because if that's the case that's reportable and punishable from what I've seen in threads on similar topics in the past. Not sure if it's one of those things you need video evidence to report but it's considered some form of griefing I assume (as it's technically not taking the game hostage unless all 4 survivors are trapped)

On a different note...What kinda mad lad killer uses a Haddonfield offering?
They do have "Maniacal" in their name, I guess they played Doctor enough to get to madness 3 irl.
-
I don't see what that has to do with survivor names and profiles? That's dodging offerings which both sides can do just fine with no punishment, if someone sees a map offering they don't like or suspected mori they can just crash their game no matter what side they're playing.
For names and profiles themselves they could remove them and I personally wouldn't care. But I know there's lots of people that want to check profiles for SWF and such, no matter how common partially/fully private profiles become as I'm pretty sure some level of private/friends only is the Steam default?

Peanits has actually answered this question before from what I remember.
Apparently the reason that it wouldn't solve anything is because people could find other ways to spell it, for example someone could say 'f1ck y0u' or something along those lines.
I would make reporting easier as instead of having "borderline" words or words that some people find way worse than others, it could be boiled down to "if you have to circumvent a filter to say it, you shouldn't say it". Then make dodging the filter a reportable offense. As the filter list itself would serve as a clear blacklist of words instead of having people argue about how bad a particular word is.

@boobsandlubes said:
Well, there is nothing you can do about it. BHVR needs to plea to Nvidia or AMD to remove custom resolution.
Custom resolution changes your desktop resolution. At least the one in Nvidia Control Panel, which is the only one I've ever messed around with.
If BHVR wanted to snuff out stretched resolutions that's on their end, not the people behind the hardware and associated software. DBD just takes your desktop resolution and uses that without questioning it because it sure seems like DBD runs in borderless window mode as opposed to "true" fullscreen. If it was true exclusive fullscreen BHVR could offer a selection of approved resolutions that maintain a monitor's intended aspect ratio, but I'm not sure if they would do that.
There are monitors with aspect ratios different to the fairly standard 16:9 as well. 4:3 is one, and all the funky aspect ratios of ultrawide monitors might have some strange effects as well with how DBD handles FOV, I wouldn't know as I've never tried one of those.
-
Personally I wait to see if the killer wants to hit me out for like 20 seconds or so if everyone is safe, especially if I can hear the terror radius. But if they don't show up I leave. And as a killer I personally like it when I get to hit whoever's in the gate on the way out, but I understand it might be different for others.
But props to you for actually just letting your stance on it be known and urging people to leave, instead of acting as if having to wait for at most 2 minutes considering EGC is some sort of cruel psychological torment. Back when people could play hide and seek for as long as they wanted or even further back when people could hump an actual infinite for as long as they want when everyone else is out, now that was awful.
-
Wrecking Ball because you get to see the dumb little hamster body flop around and roll down stairs.
-
Even if it technically is, does it really matter if there's no way you'd ever get punished? Or caught for that matter? ๐
Same for monitor firmware crosshairs to be honest.
-
Favorite is probably Otz. I like Ardetha and all the insanity that comes from their channel as well.
Least favorite is some clown I ran into with a youtube channel URL as their steam name that told me they hoped I caught the coronavirus a while back. That guy sucks!
-
Honestly, accessibility options are #1 to me.
For me I just like customizing stuff and would like to change the colour of UI elements and auras, but for many people that are colourblind or other things it could massively improve their gameplay experience.
-
I would like a "Someone you reported got punished" message personally. Sometimes you can tell, if someone gets a permanent ban on Steam it shows up on their profile as a "Game Ban" for example, but outside of straight up cheating or truly vile garbage spewing into chat it's more likely they get a temporary one.
I would also like some sort of feedback to people that make false reports or are clearly misinformed about what's reportable. Surely it shouldn't be too hard to see a pattern of reports for reasons as invalid as "camping", "tbagging" or "said I was bad at the game". Not saying they should be banned or have their reporting privileges taken away, just a message in-game showing them a list of common misconceptions about what's reportable and what isn't.
If people insist on continuing to make false reports even after that then it should in itself be an offense, at least in my opinion.
-
For that to really work I'd like to see some matchmaking variable that actually reflects skill more accurately than rank, and preferably also some sort of standardized ruleset for tournament play. That's how you get a bunch of useful data that actually reflects the top X% of players, you sorta need a way to get such players to play with eachother a lot under the same ruleset. Or at the very least just two rulesets - the ruleset of the "public" game experience, and the tournament ruleset. "Formats" aren't really as relevant in DBD I feel, as it doesn't seem like we'll ever get different game modes in the live game.
And this is coming from someone who likes the idea of top-down balancing in general, there have been some changes in my most played game of all time (Team Fortress 2) that were inspired by how the items in question performed at the highest levels of play that confused a lot of regular players. But the changes were made for very good reasons that were directly inspired by the top level of play in certain formats.
So I'd love to try that sort of balancing, but we sort of need a clear way to point out where the top level play takes place consistently first. We're not CSGO or something, where you can assume the teams playing in some big tournament are probably somewhere in the very top skill bracket the game has to offer.

Please tell me what the problem with deathslinger is then
And he tops the comment off with an ad-hominem
Scott says in his own video that he finds Clown unfun/boring despite finding him weak overall though, to be fair. There's not always a correlation between strength and "fun level". When people say they don't have fun vs Legion and Doctor it's a similar thing, for Doc in particular sometimes it has nothing to do with his strength at all and it's just because they find the madness screen effects and screaming annoying or even straight up headache-inducing.
-
I play survivor when the friend I play with is around, killer otherwise. If I had to put numbers on it then I'd say it's like 60/40 survivor/killer.
So in other words I'm in some awkward superposition where I can be declared a main of either side by someone looking for an excuse to ignore my opinion ๐
-
It has already sort of been said in this thread, but as long as your intention isn't to piss off other players to the point where that goal overrides even trying to win, it should be fine in my eyes. I always compare it to spawncamping in objective-based games in my mind. Spawncamping while your team completes an objective? That's just winning very dominantly. Ignoring your objective just to spawncamp until the timer runs out? That's a bit of a dick move ๐
-
Only thing I'd really be interested in from that franchise would be a Clicker killer, and mostly because I feel like they could get quite creative with it. It's a killer that in its own games can't actually see and has to echolocate its way around afterall, could inspire some interesting power ideas and perks.
The series lacks a monstrous main "bad guy" and I don't really feel any of the characters would really fit as a survivor in a setting like DBD though, but I'm sure it could work. But if I could just snap it into reality it'd be a killer-only thing like Leatherface.

in that case what you are planning to do to stop hackers
Compared to most other games I've played for a good amount of time DBD is actually doing a pretty good job when it comes to cheaters.
Anti-cheat is hard and anti-cheat vs cheats is a neverending arms race. People actually using cheats don't have to be very clever but the people actually developing all the cheats sorta have to know a thing or two about what they're doing.
-
The thing is, there's no single definition of what's "toxic".
Someone might genuinely do something you find incredibly toxic, but in their mind it's totally okay. And it works the same way in the other direction. But I do totally agree though, if someone's going to knowingly dish out something even they know is commonly considered toxic, they better not complain if they get some in return as well.
-
Looking forward to it ๐
Hope it turns out to be a nice premiere.
-
I used to use the term "tryhard", but that was in games where at least to begin with it had a more specific meaning to me and the people I played with. It wasn't just someone trying to win really hard, but someone that combined that with being a bit of a dickhead to everyone else on the server. The type that votekicks people for using "bad" loadouts or weapons, got extremely mad if they lost even if it was a close and good game, that sort of thing.
Nowadays it seems quite meaningless just like "sweaty" and to some extent "toxic".
-
"A Winner Is You" is simply a funny phrase from a game in the 80's which has enjoyed a bit of a meme status through the years, I'd assume that's as deep as it gets ๐
-
Because tournament DBD is radically different from anything you'll see in "normal" DBD and it's not for everyone.
Not all games are like many MOBA games, CSGO and Overwatch where it's ultimately the same game that's being played in regular ranked ladder matches and organized competitive play. And even in games like that there's a huge difference between even a stacked top 500 Overwatch match and a match between two organized and proper teams.
DBD is more like all the games out there where the competitive community is far more community-run. As I have experience with it I'd compare it to something like Team Fortress 2, where you basically play a different game if you switch from even "high level" regular play to organized competitive play in any of the popular formats in that game.
-
This approach is completely pointless as it's easy to circumvent. With your particular idea it wouldn't be hard at all to make it so DBD wouldn't pick up a squeak of mic activity while Discord worked as normal, for example.
-
Jeez, that might be the most cursed matchmaking I've ever seen right there.
At this point best we can do is probably hope the MMR system is an improvement, I'm afraid.
-

Oh and to make sure. This Hit system is surv. sided not longer Killer sided.
If you mean the upcoming serverside validation system that's actually "whoever has the lowest latency"-sided.
As it should be. Lag compensation is a good thing as long as it's reasonable, but games should try to avoid situations where having high latency can be straight up advantageous.
-
If I stopped having fun and not even a break from the game changed that. Can't really think of anything else or anything specific.

Because they already exist as add-ons, and at least for the syringe and BNP they work just fine on any quality of their respective items. Put one of those on and there's your ultra rare medkit or toolbox, complete with a unique "ability" that the items otherwise can't do.
The Odd Bulb is the odd one out, but it used to be insane back when instablinds were a thing. But flashlight addons could use a full rework honestly, making it so battery life isn't more or less the only stat people go for unless they want to stack bulbs would be interesting.
-
I quite simply don't care what people say. My Steam profile has been private for a long time, and if someone says something actually bannable post-game I report it. I honestly don't care at all if people want to just call me bad or spam gg ez, it's completely irrelevant at the end of the day.
-
If you really don't want your item to disappear (like if it's a key) just take a hit to drop the item yourself by pressing R/the console equivalent instead of getting it smacked out of your hand. Unless I'm misunderstanding something the Franklins mechanics won't apply to the item if you do that.
And if someone knocks an item out of your hand and just stands on the item for 90 seconds that's like... worse for them than camping. All the downsides of camping a hook with none of the upsides.
-
Ace and Huntress
-
I honestly don't care if someone alt+F4s in the loading screen because I'd much rather have that than have people disconnect once the match has started. Never have queue times long enough to bother me in any way anyway really.
-
If you want to "protest with action" the only thing that has even a miniscule chance of actually doing something is to stop playing the game + spending money on it. Anything else you do is irrelevant in the grand scheme of things.
