  • I personally would choose to have it stay. It's one of the things I really like about the game. It adds a kind of strategy to this game that you don't find on others.

  • I echo what everyone else has said. Your complaint is with dedicated servers. On PS4 I used to be able to hit dead hard at the correct time almost every time. I used to be able to hit great skill checks well over 50% of the time. Since the dedicated servers on PS4 both of those things happen way less for me.

I've had to stop using dead hard because the dedicated servers make it nothing more than a wasted perk slot. If they ever decide to fix the dedicated servers (I have my doubts) I will start using dead hard again. Until that happens, if it ever, you'll have better luck using a different perk.

  • I try. Used to be pretty good at them. Since PS4 dedicated servers though it's gotten much more rare. There has been a small intermittent lag since the servers were put in place attempting to hit a great skill check will often lead to a missed skill check if the server lag hits at just the right time.

    No.

I've purchased every single DLC and have cosmetics for nearly every character, but I won't spend money on this game anymore because of the awful dedicated servers. Truly game breaking.

My thoughts exactly. My experience with this game has gotten significantly worse since they started the dedicated servers on PS4. IF that changes I might consider buying things again. Until then BHVR won't get another penny of my money.

Seriously? You're rank 9-12 and think this is what people are talking about? It's stupid easy to get rank 1. Make another post when you've spent a couple months there

Did I say that's what people are talking about? Nope. I even stated in my first paragraph that I wasn't actually debating whether or not the game was survivor sided. I was simply wondering when I actually start seeing those survivors because I am not seeing them now.

Just get better at it, there are guides which explain "techs" that you can do like window juke and so on which will give you the basic stuff for it. Watch good streamers for a point of orientation, try to memorize the maps and where to run.

    I will try it

Stick to gens, learn to loop, do not camp pallets and waste them. You do rank up even when you die.

I try to do most of that. I suck really bad at looping though. Great at stealth. I don't mean the hide all match stealth. I just tend to be able to avoid the killer more often than not.

  • @Mc_Harty said:

You'll see them the moment you step out of green ranks.

i can't get out of green ranks because I only get paired with survivors that play without any concept of intelligence or strategy

  • I played a match earlier today on PS4 where another survivor was running significantly faster than me for an extended period of time. I attributed it to lag at that time, but seeing this makes me wonder.

  • @Heartbound said:

OP survivors are a myth. You either do gens or you don't.

Someone can be the best runner and nail every tile, but if no gens are done it's worthless and now the map has no pallets.

Survivor is hold M1 to win.

Killer is press M1 to win.

And that's the part I don't get. Why do the majority of survivors seemingly not care at all about doing gens? It's unfathomable to me.

  • @Flarefire_Xx said:

Let me guess, your rank 15-20

9 to 12 most of the time

That's why it's so frustrating. I worked hard to get just to this rank. I expected survivors would start playing more intelligently as my rank got better. That hasn't happened.

  • You don't necessarily have to play as a team in this game. However, if you could get the people that play survivor to learn to not only as a team, but as a smart team we would have to be giving killers buffs left and right to make the game even close to fair.

Unfortunately way too many survivors fall into one of two categories though:

    • 1) Not interested in playing as part of a team at all

    or

    • 2) Have no idea how to combine playing smart with playing as a team

The amount of times I see survivors do things that are ridiculously stupid based on some misguided idea of teamwork is mind boggling.

    • Unhooking while the killer is camping
    • Even when a killer doesn't camp they rush to unhook before the killer gets 3 steps away
    • Running to heal a slugged teammate when it's obvious the killer is standing right there and using them for bait to slug someone else.

Those are just a few of the things I am talking about. Those type of survivors are also the same ones that will message after a match telling you that you are the most awful survivor they have seen. They are always oblivious to the fact that their misguided attitude towards teamwork is nothing more than a strategy guaranteed to lose.

  • Ghostface for me and not even close. Not only, do I not do as well, but I just don't like the lack of a red stain and terror radius. That isn't to say it's unfair. It's just that I started playing this game long before Ghostface was introduced. The strategy involved with the red stain and the terror radius is one of the things I loved the most about this game. Take that element away, and I don't enjoy playing against Ghostface very much at all.

Always green ping with no dcs. Ps4

It has to be something with South Texas then. That's all I can figure because DBD is the only thing I have any sort of connectivity issues with at all.

  • @Alice_pbg said:

My connection is actually better since the servers 🤷‍♂️

I have heard other people say that too. That's one of the reasons I wonder if it has something to do with my location. Some issue between my location and BHVR or something.

  • @kcwolf1975 said:

I haven't had any dc issues and I even have crappy internet.

I have great internet. The only time it ever goes out is if there is a power outage. That's part of the reason this is so frustrating. If I had bad internet I would just realize the issue was on my end and there was nothing I could do about it. But Nothing else on the PS4 has had a single issue. I can stream 1080p Netflix without buffering. My laptop doesn't have any connection issues. All these things operate on the same internet. Yet the only thing time I get connection issues is playing DBD. That only started after the dedicated servers started. It is way more than coincidental that the only connection issues I have take place under one condition, and that condition is playing DBD.

  • @HellDescent said:

I don't get any disconnects, but most of my games are extremely laggy and that's with under 70m/s ping

That's the thing. My games are way less laggy than before the dedicated servers, but I get disconnects now and never got them at all before. It was actually a welcome tradeoff before I started being punished for servers that are not reliable.

  • I HATE HATE HATE HATE the crows. I can't stand that noise. It has noting to do with the fact they give away your location. Crows are simply one of those noises I hate whether in a game or real life.

  • @Almo said:

Camp anyone you want. Just be ready to watch for the occasional smart Survivors who use the opportunity to escape. :)

Very occasional. Most survivors simply aren't that smart.

  • I get scared when I read posts like this one. Someone on this forum being reasonable, rational, and logical makes me think the world might be ending.

    Seriously though.... Great post.

  • I'm all for the 5 minute penalty for the first DC. After that if a survivor DC's I would make it where they can't get another match until the one they left finishes. If doesn't matter if the match they left goes 10 minutes or 30 minutes. That way they don't get the opportunity to be put in a lobby for another match until they people they quit on do also. How much more fair can it get than to say the person that quit can't get a match before the people they left behind.

I don't know how to work that thought process for when a killer DC's since that ends the game immediately. But then again the majority of DC's aren't coming from killers.

  • People abandon the use of their brains when it comes to playing games. Played in a game the other day where I pulled someone off the hook twice (safely) and healed them afterwards both times. After the second heal they started working on a gen with me. Killer came up and we both started running. The other survivor ended up caught and hooked for the third time.

Almost immediately after they died I got a message. They told me I was the worst survivor they had ever seen. Since I was still playing I just ignored it for the moment. By the time the game was over I was the only survivor to escape. I had 26k points. They sent me another message after the game telling me not only was I the worst survivor they had ever seen, but I was the luckiest one too.

I just took a screenshot of the final scores and sent it to them as my reply. I mean the survivor that got 20k points less than me, was the first person to die, that I personally unhooked and healed twice messaged me and told me I was the worst and luckiest survivor they had ever seen. They responded by telling me a good survivor would have stayed at the generator and allowed the killer to hit them since he had already been hung twice and I hadn't been hung any. That is simply delusional. Plus they continued to message me until the point I just blocked them from messaging me anymore.

So, yeah you are absolutely right. No matter what you do people are going to find a reason to have a problem with that you do in this game.

I have to admit. This made me laugh because it's been happening to me lately with Kindred. You're right. Wish teammates used the info correctly

I rarely get upset over anything a killer does, but Kindred has made me frequently upset with the way other survivors play. In my matches I would say at least 75% of survivors play without any sort of strategy or rationale whatsoever.

  • @iBetClaudette said:

Carry Kindred so your teammates know you're being camped. No guarantees but it should make your teammates rush gens even more and encourage the killer to move away. Worst that happens is you die but all gens get done.

Kindred rarely makes survivors work on gens when someone is being camped. Instead it causes at least 2 other survivors to run towards the hook and then sneak around for 2 minutes hoping to be the one that rushes in for the unhook the moment the killer gets far enough away. It's one of the reasons I both love and hate Kindred. It gives lots of information. Unfortunately most of the information it gives is that survivors don't play smart.

  • I hate starting together as a survivor. Never understood why anyone wants to do that.

  • @SolAkira said:

As a survivor main I'm totally okay with slugging even if it's me and and another player left. I'll make you look for me. It's fun. I even recieved a few hate messages because of it.

The same here. There is nothing wrong with a killer slugging. However, I will crawl away as far as possible. If a killer wants to slug me that's fine, but if they do I absolutely will make them have to search for me, and I almost always use Iron Will. So, my location won't be given away by grunts and groans.

I've had killers message me after a match cussing me out because they couldn't find me. Apparently there are some killers that think after slugging me I have an obligation to stay in plain sight so they get points for hooking me. Not gonna happen. Killers have every right to slug, and I have every right to make it as difficult as possible to hook me afterwards.

  • As a survivor if you are part of a team that actually plays the game intelligently Kindred is the strongest perk in the game. The amount of information it provides allows a good team to accomplish objectives much more efficiently. Is someone else much closer to the hooked survivor and they are already headed their direction? I don't need to go that way. I can keep working on a generator. That kind of information and usage is fantastic, but it requires others use it the same way.

However, what you end up getting most games is watching team mates play the game with absolutely zero strategy. I have no need to know that 2 survivors are in a race to pull someone off the hook while the killer is standing right next to it. I have no need to watch someone get hooked and realize I don't see the amount of auras I should be seeing so that means people are hiding in a locker doing absolutely nothing.

In other words I rarely use it anymore because well over half the time it ends up being a wasted perk slot. All it accomplishes is watching other survivors play the game with all the intelligence of a rock when I could have equipped something that would actually be useful to me.

  • @Frankie said:

The tryhard, sweaty memers tend to come out on the weekends. I usually advise newer killers to hold off playing on weekends lol

I had a game against Doctor on cold wind farm. I was stuck in tier 3 madness and was unable to snap out of it because the skill check animation was not showing up on the screen. So I said F it and ran around the cornfield and kept screaming as I failed the skillcheck over and over for the rest of the game. The killer messaged me and said ######### were you doing? I told him and he said lol.

That's the way to handle it. Once upon a time either thing would have pissed me off and I would have just quit, but theses days I figure I may as well have fun with it.

  • @csandman1977 said:

I just thought i was too close to the side. Sometimes as killer when i hug the wall carrying someone I go about a 3rd of the length of the stairs before I fall down to the ground.

I'll have to experiment and see if that's what caused it. I was definitely close to a side. I don't know how close, but that could be it if that causes it.

  • @csandman1977 said:

I got the stair jump once today but everything else was fine

I had never seen that happen before. It was actually kind of fun in a "this shouldn't be happening" kind of way.

  • I say it every time I see a post about this, and this is coming from a survivor main.

The problem with camping is not on the killer side. Survivors are the problem when it comes to camping.

    Look at this way:

Killer camps the first person they hook. The other 3 survivors have 2 choices

    • A) Work on generators forcing killer to stand there through the whole process not getting anything else done.
    • B) Rush for the hook removal.

For each of the unhooked survivors that choose A you are likely to get 1 full generator done, and started on the next one or at least trying to find the next one. This means if the other survivors just worked generators while a camper camps their first victim you could have 3 generators completely done and possibly working on others.

For each of the unhooked survivors that choose B you have pulled someone off the hook in a matter of seconds. That means barely any progress has been made towards objectives plus you have very likely given the killer another easy hook. A killer can easily end up with 3 total hooks in the time it takes 1 survivor to do 1 generator from start to finish that way. That is the equivalent of 1 kill in the time it took to get 1 or 2 generators done depending on how many were working on generators and how many were playing hook carousel.

If you follow A out to its logical conclusion a killer is going to end up with an average of somewhere around 2 kills per match because they have used most of their time just standing there camping.

If you follow B out to its logical conclusion a killer is going to end up with close to 4 kills per match because survivors are not working on objectives and instead offering themselves up as easy kills.

I understand it's frustrating to play against a killer that camps. It sucks even more when you're the one being camped. I know you want to go rescue that person on the hook because you know how much it sucks being the one on the hook. However, the bottom line is survivors are the ones that make camping a winning strategy. If you want to see camping become a lot less common you have to be willing to:

    • 1) not only die when you are the one being camped, but struggle as long as you can.
    • 2) watch others do the same

In other words asking BHVR to punish killers for utilizing a strategy that is only beneficial because of the poor decisions of survivors isn't going to happen, nor should it. If you want to see camping cut way back you have to play smarter and make it a waste of time for killers instead of an easy win.

  • Junkyard Dog

    jyd.jpg

  • We both did. The other survivor had video.

  • Played in a match recently where 1 of the survivors was obviously working with the killer. Followed the killer around and didn't get hit. When the killer found someone else he downed them and hooked them. The survivor working with him unhooked. They let the person run away a second, but then they both started chasing. The killer downed him again. The killer and his partner survivor just stood there and watched him for awhile. The killer finally picked him up and hooked him again. Once again his partner unhooked the guy almost immediately. They let him run a second and then followed. They repeated the process and eventually hung this survivor a third time.

During that time myself and the other survivor were popping gens. We managed to have 4 gens done and working on the 5th by the time they finished tormenting the other survivor. Within a few seconds we popped the last gen.The killer ran to the hatch, which was close to one of the doors, and then went to the door switch. The survivor working with him ran to the other door and just stood in front of the switch. The hatch was closed. The killer was blocking one door and an incredibly toxic survivor was blocking the other one.

The other survivor and I started roaming cleansing totems and such. Ran across a chest and guess what was inside? That's right a key. We walked to the hatch which was in view of the door. We stood there for a second and let the killer watch us and dance a little. We popped the hatch and stood there just a minute to let him run towards us. We both jumped out before he got there.

We both got messages after the match telling us we were crap survivors because the only way we could win was with a key. I normally don't respond at all to those kind of messages. This time I just responded with "Who won?" He must have messaged me 20 times after that cussing me and everything else. I really enjoyed knowing I got under his skin that much after he played that way.

  • I'm 100% with you on this. I will even go so far as to say something that will probably be met with disagreement by some. When I see a player that is playing Captain America with repeated unsafe hook removals resulting in getting everyone else repeatedly hooked while they run away with their bloodpoints they probably aren't getting my help when they get hooked. I absolutely will not even attempt to remove them from the hook unless the door is open and I know we can both get to it before the killer gets there. Otherwise, they are staying on the hook as far as I am concerned. I would rather let them die on the hook than have them sacrifice everyone else with unsafe hook removals because they want the easy bloodpoints.

  • Got some interesting replies and some ridiculous replies. Got some replies from people that I will have to assume believe themselves to be mind readers and a lot of replies I think were just intentionally disingenuous. Some replies I feel confident were nothing but bait just trying to argue. Got replies from people that think name calling is an effective debate tactic as well as replies from people devoid of all logic. Then there were those few replies from people I appreciate. The ones that actually want to have a discussion and present ideas.

Some of you presented some legit reasons I hadn't thought of for lobby dodging. My thanks to those of you that participated in a rational discussion. There aren't many here on this forum, but I always learn new things and see new perspectives when I cut through the 95% of people on here that have no desire to be rational.

No chain yanking. Promise. Blocking someone's profile on console prevents them from appearing in online play modes for the majority of titles. I'm sure there may be some exceptions (nothing is perfect) but it's kind of like Facebook. The matchmaking pulls from PlayStation Networks online resources, since it doesn't have it's own internal save database. It relies on the same pathways, so blocking a profile from all interactions also extends to encountering them in gameplay, since there can't be any guarantees that in-game communication doesn't exist. It's ment to be a protection against harassment. Of course, if a game has dedicated server-sided saves, it could be possible to get past that by using a games internal communications database, which I assume is why, as Lightning just pointed out to me, profile blocking doesn't work on PC, or so I would assume.

The next time I am in front of my PS4 there are 5 people that will get blocked. Thank you. This bit of information has made this whole post worthwhile.

Spine Chill increases repair, heal, and sabo speed while also hard countering the thing that makes Ghostface strong in the first place (and providing you of a heads up for all killers). This isn't useful?

    Okay then. haha

Yes it does all those things. But there are other perks that are much more useful to me personally against every killer other than a ghostface. Everyone has their own strength and weaknesses. I readily admit I am weak against a ghostface and spine chill would be a welcome addition when playing against one. At the same time I don't really have need of it against other killers. There are perks more advantageous to me against other killers. So ha ha all you want. It doesn't change the fact if I played spine chill it would basically be for those times I play against one particular killer. That's fine, but doesn't change the original point I was making.

You go to their profile and select block profile from the options menu. It's really not that hard to understand.

I will try that as soon as I can. Why the ever loving freak have I never come across this? I have blocked people in chat situations, but they still show up in gameplay. Would have loved to have known this a long time ago?

Blocking their profile doesn't just prevent them from contacting you, it seeds them out of online interactions as a whole. That includes in-game interaction.

I have done google search after google search after google search on this. Have never found anything other than blocking chat. Please tell me you aren't yanking my chain. If I can block certain players you don't know how happy this would make me.

Correct - except, calm spirit counters more than just Doctor. It counters screaming. ALL screaming. Including Infectious Fright, which has made it's way into killer meta lately.

    Good try, though.

    😎

And that still wouldn't help against a ghostface

That would be why you take down their name after a match and block them. It's not rocket science. If you don't like how someone plays, block them, and they won't be matched with you. Kinda how that works.

Again... tell me how you have accomplished that. I can block them from chatting with me, but I have yet to find any way to block them from being put in a match with me.

Please tell me how I can block playing against specific players. I have found ways to block them contacting me via chat, but haven't found a single way to block them being put in the same match as me.

Survivors also have perks that can hard counter just about every killer ability/perk in the game, and outnumber the killer 4:1.

Hmmmm...... for a survivor to utilize a perk to counter a particular killer they would have to know what killer they are going up against before the match starts. I can make a wild guess and assume I am going up against a doctor and play calm spirit, but then if I end up against a ghostface that calm spirit doesn't mean crap. Good try though.
