You’re right on the money here, slugging can be annoying but I feel like a lot of survivors that complain too much about it are the same ones that try to flashlight/pallet save or sabo hooks constantly.
and I feel like a lot of the killers that say it isn’t an issue don’t experience the other end of the spectrum enough to truly say it isn’t. Slugging has become endemic right now. It used to be slugging for the 4k, which was annoying and unfair feeling enough. But in the last few months killers slugging at 5/4/3 gens has become absolutely rife.

I’m worried because we’ve seen lots of questionable changes made by BHVR.
yes and this is definitely one of them- because it’s not going to stop slugging at all, but rather promote it. Not really sure why it’s even being labelled as an ‘anti slugging’ mechanic.
-
I’ll routinely DC from a plague match. I’d rather eat the DC penalty than listen to vomiting noises for 20 mins.

Just had a skull merchant match which I unfortunately had to slug a survivor after he repeatedly abused boil over in the upper part of the main building in crotus. So I eventually had to slug him which ironically he DC’d a few minutes after.
I’m all for reducing slugging but I also don’t want killers punished for slugging when it’s most necessary. Thats all I’m saying. :-)the upcoming ‘anti-slugging’ plans aren’t going to negatively impact killers and it’s not going to discourage them from slugging so I don’t see why you’re worried.

I found FNAF really boring when I played it and I have absolutely no idea how it’s going to work as a chapter in DBD.

To be fair, most of those changes had to happen. DBD back then was obscenely survivor sided. Like to the degree of comical absurdity.
Which is why I would invite people complaining about survivors having their hands held now to take a trip back in time to see what handholding actually looked like. Hell, even just pre-6.1.0 would be a shock to the system for a lot of people.
I don't think killer is OP, but it's generally in as good a shape as it has ever been.
oh I completely agree. I’m not trying to imply many of those changes shouldn’t have happened, but we seem to be at a point now where we are constantly forgetting the amount of changes that actually have been made to support the killer play base and just want to lambast any changes that get made for survivors. It’s really irksome that any time a survivor gets or petitions for a change they’re ‘getting their hands held’ but killers conveniently forget all of the above that has been done to make the game more accessible for them.

Survivor play QOL actually improved
- Action visualization HUD (now you can also see gen and heal progress through stages)
- Base kit BT
- Anti (Totem,Gen) camping system
- Anti 3gen system
- Reworked maps with occasional broken windows and Palette loops are provided
Actual improved killer play QOL
- Shortened post-attack hardness and destruction actions
- Almost pointless gen kick now causes gen to back off (minus the 3gen system that was added instead?)
Or, if we are looking at how the game has really been affected for killers
- addition of bloodlust
- Additions of blocks to vaults when used three or more times in quick succession
- Increase in vault speed
- Change to hooks so they cannot be permanently broken with a tool box
- Change to hooks so they respawn following a sacrifice
- Change to hook spawns so they consistently spawn closer together
- Change to BNP so it doesn’t auto complete a gen
- Nerfs to toolboxes
- Nerfs to medipacks
- Changing the hatch so it doesn’t spawn mid match anymore and only one person can escape as opposed to three
- Implementation of continuous gen regression
- removal of many ‘infinites’
- Changes to loops in general to a more unsafe design both historically and recent e.g blocking up a second window in the shack and putting holes in buildings where vaults were before
- Nerfs to gens speeds
- Making maps smaller to increase map pressure/mobility
This is all just changes to base gameplay and how the game works at its core . It’s before we even start to look at the changes to perks caused by killers not being happy with them which would have plenty of comments. This rhetoric of ‘BHVR only changes the game for survivors and killers get nothing ’ really needs to end because it’s just not true.

Oh I want in!
The nerf to Distortion, Deadhard and Made for this was all to hold killer hands.
Yeah, this isn't too difficult and its kinda fun lol. Count me in!
this whole ‘survivors get babied’ thing annoys me when the game has been exponentially changed multiple times for killers of the last 8 years, and this is never mentioned in these arguments.
-
I’ve said this a few times but the rework is awful for two reasons: firstly because loops are so unsafe now it’s going to further annoy survivors in a situation that’s already contentious and killers won’t gain any real value from it. Secondly, because it’s no longer in the spirit of the perk.
I’d have changed it as follows:
-remove the block to aura reading which is the part of the perk that is used in’ a toxic way.
-if a survivor is downed they cannot health themselves for 10/15/20 seconds due to being unconscious.
- if another player wants to heal a survivor who has been downed they must first complete a ‘wake up’ action to bring them round before healing. This way it’s in the spirit of the original perk, close by survivors cannot just ‘hop on’ healing in the killers face and the toxic element is gone.
-
literally every match I go into these days is Surge + Pain Res + some sort of blocking perk and ends in a 3/4k. So I don’t know what to tell you because right now it feels like either nothing gets done as a survivor or you get to 3 gens and the killer decides to slug.
-
they’re the best counter to BBQ
-
I think they should just do away with the PTB - put everything live as an ‘early access’ modifier and let anyone access it who wants to.
I don’t see the logic on a small subset of the fan base getting first comment and priority in feedback when they normally have to carry out further changes when it goes live in ‘the real world’ anyway.
-
maps should be no one sided. They should be balanced as much as possible and having small killer sided maps and massive survivor sided maps isn’t balance.
-
the name of the game is ‘killers should lose’ even though the amount of killers getting 4ks is arguably consistently higher than it’s ever been.

Slugging is the act of purposely leaving survivors on the ground after downing them. It is generally frowned upon by the community obviously yet is still seen as a valid tactic within the game that can turn the tide of a match.
Camping, tunneling and slugging are all tactics killers can opt to use, but many players take issue when the tactic is used for more toxic purposes, or they repeatedly encounter one or all in multiple matches. Yet, as of late, a lot of players keep talking about a slugging meta and claim that slugging far more prominent than before. Is that really the case though?
My thought process on the subject is players general habit of hyperfixation, something unintentional but does happen due to the stigma around these tactics. Players tend to fixate on other players are doing something wrong or something they don't like. Players remember these instances more than positive ones, especially if they lose. It doesn't even have to happen all that much for it to stick either.
Skill and mmr also play a huge factor as less skilled killers tend to rely on the easiest solution to make up for a lack of skill such as camping because they don't know how to spread pressure. It is a necessary action or the player feels like they will lose. More skilled players rely less on these tactics in general because they aren't necessary and when they are necessary, it's for a good reason. Survivors tend to fixate on the action, but neglect to ask why it happened sometimes. It's easy to jump to the conclusion that the killer lacks the skill, or they did it on purpose to be toxic because it lessens the impact of losing and removes blame from the player. Yet when it's necessary, a situation where the killer would otherwise be intentionally losing if they did not slug, camp or tunnel, it still gets lumped into the other two conclusions.
In conclusion, people don't like slugging and tend to hold onto the more extreme situations which often can give the implication that it happens more often then it actually does. Whether or not this gibberish means anything is up to whoever actually read all this.

And that's how it always is. I mean, look at this:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3891613#Comment_3891613
"Killers wanting to get more kills is a plague to the game!"
I disagree that you can 'tell' when you're winning and when you're losing. It's a sweat fest from start to finish, and survivors have outrageous comeback potential. Until that last survivor is dead, slugged, or standing in the exit gate, you don't know for sure that you've won. Even if you are clearly winning hard, that doesn't mean you let up, because again, they'd be able to come back from it. I've had 3-4 slugged, and then random Unbreakable/reset happens, and everyone is up and healthy for the rest of the game. I've seen teams come back from impossible situations, because they actually pushed the gens and looped well (I guess their brains suddenly turned on), and you end up losing or drawing something you think you would've won.
If you want to cherry pick an argument then that's fine, but let's not pretend the very post I responded to, in its entirety, wasn't talking about how important killer players and how the game is designed for them are to the health of the game and that my response to that wasn't reasonable and proportionate whilst mentioning the importance of that for the other side. The quote you chose to write in your post and the subsequent points made make absolutely no sense with the context of mine - to the point where I'm not even sure you've quoted the right person. The latter half of my post was even in agreement with the premise of the one to which I responded, and you've also quoted, so I'm not entirely sure what you're getting at - short of seeming to want some sort of argument that isn't there. As a polite nudge, perhaps you should read more than the first two lines of a post before quoting it and jumping into an entire narrative with that, because the first two lines, it seems, are all you're responding too.
-
Yet more nerfs to loops is not what this game needed, do BHVR even bother to look at things globally anymore? Plus, the perk is called ‘knock out’ how is the is remotely suitable?
I commented this on the DBD FB page: im glad the perk is getting changes but this isn’t it.
To keep it in line with the nature of the perk I’d remove the block to aura reading, which is the most toxic part, but make it so downed survivors cannot heal themselves for 10/15/20 seconds due to being ‘unconscious’. Team mates would also need to complete a short ‘wake up’ animation, like with Freddy, before they could start to heal if they’re trying to heal within this time frame.
-
because it’s an epidemic comparable to the 3 man hatch escape days of unfair and lazy gameplay that can snowball an entire match somewhat unfairly. Some killers love to throw around the excuse of ‘it’s a built in mechanic I’m just using to its most efficient’ well so was the hatch and survivors were doing the same but it was unfair and needed to be changed. So, too, does slugging. IMO tunnelling is far less of an issue.
-
it’s underused because killers need to break pallets for it to get use which isn’t really happening anymore.
it’s meant to be a perk to discourage killers from breaking the pallet and go around it instead. However, when killers now routinely don’t bother breaking pallets because most of the loops are so unsafe they can be round the other side to clock you one by the time the drop pallet animation/slide across animation is completed, what’s the point? It’s a wasted slot. -
He’s not C tier with those who bother to spend time learning him.

You're glad proxy camping as Huntress is EASIER?
I’d love to know what part of the OP’s description made it easier. They used to stand in view of the hook, wait for someone to come for the unhook and hit them with a hatchet which they can now no longer do. So yeah, I’m glad because it forces them to do something else. Unless I’m misunderstanding their post?
-
they also need survivors and given there is a pretty consistent 300% bonus for survivors on 1v4 and 400% on 2v8, which is up from an average of 250% in the last iteration, perhaps it’s time to start considering that they don’t need to worry as much about the killers right now. Survivors make up the majority of the play base and if they’re losing them, which they seem to be at the moment, it’ll have a massive impact too. Killers are already complaining they can’t get matches for ages and that’s with the incentives in place.
The announcement came across as anti-killer but the reality of how it’s going to work is arguable pro-killer at worst and pro-status quo at best. However, I’d happily take longer waiting times if it means getting rid of some of the ‘I need to get a 4k every match an will do anything to get it’ killers that are plaguing the game at the moment and still calling for it to be easier. -

Killers are sluggging at 5 gens now so what would be the difference? Any change is met with this excise and when it’s already rampant it really loses weight .

Wiggling exists because it ensures that the killer can't just take you across the map to hook you. It's not supposed to be a consistent way to get off.
but killers consistently walk across the map to hook you without you wiggling off so OP’s point still stands.
I went into a match the other day trying to do the ‘sabotage 12 hooks challenge’ so took a sabo build - Saboteur, toolbox with add ons and breakdown and the petrified oak offering.
I saboed two hooks and the killer was still able to hook the survivor with no issue at all. All of that should have some sort of impact but it just didn’t.

@Interrupt_Vector said:
Shortly after the Freddy PTB I have noticed, that Huntress Hatchets do no longer collide with survivors on the hook.
They pass right through them.
As a Huntress main I welcome the stealth buff but I am not sure if this is intentional, and if so, why?
This makes every unhook unsafe because no matter the angle from which the survivor unhooks, I can get them by just aiming at the hooked survivor and I will get a guaranteed hit every single time.
so basically you can’t proxy camp? Sounds like an improvement to me.

@jesterkind said:
To answer the question about the anti-genrush, did you see the part of the roadmap where they talk about addressing survivor spawns so that they can't all spawn spread out anymore?
Even if we define genrushing as just survivors doing their objective efficiently (instead of the more reasonable and actually useful definition of bringing stacked toolboxes with supporting perks), that's gonna be a huge knock to the team's ability to get the ball rolling. With that change implemented, the average killer early game will go substantially more in their favour.
To be fair this needs addressing anyway and should have been done already. I say that as a survivor main.
Somehow the game has consistently spawned survivors together in 2/3s and even groups of 4 for months now.
There is an offering for that to happen and it never gets brought. It’s clearly bugged and I think it why so many killers bring Lethal now. It’s actually detrimental to start together with Lethal in the killer toolkit when we are talking about people like Billy/Blight/Nurse/Michael etc
but then we are talking about BHVR who have left Wesker live in 2v8 with a game breaking bug - it’s no surprise this has taken so long. Quite ironic when they’re talking about a ‘health chapter’. -
my prediction is that nothing will change, because none of the changes they’re making will mean anything has to change.
-
Ay, woeh! Back off.

Doesn't saboteur buff up breakdowns sabo speed aswell, because if it does I think it's fine as it's more of a support perk atp, along with being able to see the hooks closest.
I’d take removal of the increased speed, which is actually longer than some toolbox + add ons, to make the perk overall more beneficial.
I don’t really understand why they buffed the sabo time when in reality the problem is that it’s the cooldown that makes it useless.
-
I hope they buff Saboteur. It’s a joke how it is at the moment. It has a 60 second cooldown and hooks respawn in 30 seconds. Compare that to Breakdown where hooks break for 180 seconds and it’s just not a worthwhile perk to use. Especially with hooks being so close together now. I think the cooldown should be removed but the amount of times you can use it perk hook should be limited .
-
no cause they’ll just DC when it loads in.

Did you miss the whole other half of the image where it said anti-tunnelling, anti-camping and anti-slugging?
No, which is why I'm talking about phase 1... we don't know what phase 2 will be...
I don't know where you're getting the implication that BHVR are saying every match is unwinnable for Survivors. They are talking about games that have specifically entered a state that is basically lost and instead of letting it go to hatch (which is the lifeline for those kinds of matches), they just hide for 30 minutes.
Idk where you got the implication i was talking about EVERY game... I am also speaking on the games BHVR is referencing. Why would I mean the game as a whole?? Also, i mean... the game doesn't have to go to hatch, now does it. There's another route that I've spoken on a couple times in this post... 2 v 1...You slug one and go look for the other. Up to 4 minutes is needed to survive and then MAYBE you can get hatch. You realize there is no other option then, correct? The last 2 hide for 30 minutes hoping to not get found, and hoping the killer doesn't care for a mori/4k, so they can get the hatch. That's very common.
Let's be completely honest about the hatch mechanic. It's a chance, sure. No individual wants to have to play a HOF game of hide and seek or Cat and mouse for 4 minutes (25-30% of avg game time) to maybe get hatch or hope your exit gates aren't 2 feet away from each other.
The fact that BHVR are referencing a match with half the team left in it as ‘unwinnable’ is the biggest issue of all here. That should not ever be the baseline assumption of a 2V1 but clearly it is and that’s why the game is in the state it is. None of the changes are going to fix that.
If you’re going to say to people ‘you won’t win’ when two people have died, especially when then current meta is to hard tunnel out one person, what’s even the point in queuing up? Perhaps this is why they’re is a 400% bonus for survivor most of the time now. It’s not going to be enough.

The game seems chock full of bugs right now.

As a killer main, I disagree kindly. I win most of my matches and I dont have to do all of that.
but just because you don’t do it personally, doesn’t mean a plethora of other killers aren’t doing it. Unfortunately the vast majority of matches I get down to final two this happens. It’s needs addressing and if it’s truly not something you do, it won’t affect you.

Then ask yourselves, what could have been done differently? Why are we in this situation? What mistakes were made along the way? Did we 3 gen ourselves? How could I have played this differently? Maybe there is something that needs to be improved on..How did it get like this? There are A LOT of factors to keep in mind.
I’ve asked myself those questions. I’ve tried to do things differently but the truth of the matter is the game in its current state facilitates that playstyle for killers.

" The main objective for the surviors is to get out."
Yes the main objective for survivors is to get as many out as possible. Do the gens. I have had so many 2v1 games where both of us got out because we rotated. The killer can only go after one person.
Yeah, but the other person is usually slugged.
-
@Aven_Fallen said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3885780#Comment_3885780
Hard agree and to be honest, in my initial response I did not think enough. I realized that slugging is still way too strong with what they plan in Phase 1 (since it does not adress the Core Issue), but I was happy that I at least dont have to lie on the ground for 4 minutes if a Killer decides to grief the whole team and I thought that griefing might go down with that.
But it will probably rather increase, since Killers would now get a victory if Survivors surrender.
When it comes to Anti-Hiding, I personally only thought of the extreme cases where two Survivors are hiding without any intention to progress the game. However, it is true that something should be done for this situation which gives the Survivors the chance to come back. And while some Killers will probably say that they already lost at this point - especially as Solo-Survivor you have no control over your teammates and if one or two persons got tunneled out early, this does not mean that the two remaining Survivors were bad and dont deserve to win.
Because, I am honest, when it comes to the 2v1, I dont even try, when I get caught, I suicide on Hook so that the other person has a chance to get the Hatch. When my SWF-Mate and I are the last persons alive, even if we both are not on Death Hook, when one of us gets found it is basically "Yeah, good luck" and Hook Suicide.
And something should be changed here. Survivors should not have to give up when it is 2v1. This is not good game design. And it basically means that the Killer only needs a 2K for a Win, since they will get the 3K automatically.
I’m really glad more people are seeing this as I did when I first read the announcement. Once you get past the initial excitement that they’re focusing on a ‘health period’ you can see what they’re doing is not actually going to resolve anything.
As you said, the surrender system is not going to disincentivise slugging all survivors at 5 gens or slugging the last two for the 4K, but rather incentivise it because the killer will get to walk away with their 4K quicker than ever before. I’ve raised this every single time a surrender option has been raised on this forum for this reason. Fixes should address the core of the issue and this does not. It promotes it. It will only get worse when this goes live.
Similarly, the anti-hiding is going to do nothing to fix the killer annoyance for survivors hiding out the hatch because it only works when you get idle crows. No one is just standing in one spot for the entire time it takes the hatch to spawn, because idle crows already give killers a sound notification and they know round about where you are. It’s going to carry on exactly the same as it is. Survivors are going to continue to hide because nothing they’re doing here fixes the problems.
As far as slugging for the 4K goes when there’s only two survivors left - It’s a vicious circle. Survivors hide because killers slug you and leave you down, then go off to find the 4th survivor. So you cannot do the objective because it’s too easy for the killer to find you. You can’t go and get your partner off the floor because killers either proxy camp or just knock them down again until they bleed out. The anti-hide and the surrender feature are not going to fix this. They’re just going to exacerbate it.
BHVR need a solution to slugging that promotes return to normal play and also needs to disincentivise survivors not doing the objective. In my opinion, gens need to change proportionately to how many survivors there are in a game so they’re not an insurmountable task.
It’s very telling that the press release of the chapter describes this situation as ‘unwinnable’. There is half the team left in the match at this point, it certainly shouldn’t be unwinnable. That’s the core issue and that’s what needs to change.
-
@MechWarrior3 said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3886095#Comment_3886095
It will help. Either get idle crows and the killer now knows where you are or the survivor is force to walk around the map which will likely get caught.
This is a huge W development update for BHVR in the near future. Everything they mentioned is going to help in some capacity. They can make adjustments as needed
but walking around the map until they get caught is exactly what’s happening now and is exactly what killers are complaining about, because it’s ’wasting their time’. This update doesn’t resolve that. Just as the surrender option won’t disincentivise slugging. It’s all a way of making it look like they’re doing something when they’re not really doing what they need to do.
-
But that’s the point, maps are often so small and gens take so long you basically cannot do the objective at this point.
Especially when it’s a dead lock of the killer downing one survivor every time someone gets them back up and leaving them on the floor which I’ve had happen plenty of times.
The game needs to make the objective more accessible proportionally to how many survivors are in the match. That’s how this problem is fixed. But that would take actual work on BHVRs part.
-
@BlightedDolphin said:
Aside from the hiding mechanic, which should be thing to prevent those needlessly drawn out games, nothing else really seems that different to it is now. You can still be slugged for the 4k and you can’t surrender right now, so how is this making it worse when it’s basically the same?
We have no idea how the anti-AFK, anti-Go Next, and anti-hiding will actually work. So maybe we should wait to actually see how these changes go before jumping to conclusions.
the anti hide isn’t going to do anything. They’ve already said how it’s going to work. If you get idle crows your aura is revealed to the killer instantly. But no one is just standing in the same spot immobile whilst playing for the hatch. A pointless change.
Nothing BHvR have said they’re going to do will solve the problems the game has.

That's exactly what's going to happen. The over-arching theme of these changes is: "We're not going to fix the unfun thing. You just have to deal with it now."
exactly, all the evidence we have so far points this being what’s going to happen.
-
I’m glad BHVR are finally realising they need to stop steam rolling out new content and fix what’s there but some of these methods are just not what they should be and won’t resolve the issues as they exist. They’re going to promote them. I’m just going to post what I did in another thread:
‘Anti slug is needed but this is not the option to promote good game health. Why would this stop a killer slugging all survivors at 5/4 gens which has seen an increase in recent months? Why is it going to stop the killer slugging the last two survivors for the 4K when all survivors can just surrender and the killer still gets to walk away with their 4K BP? Why’s this going to stop survivors hiding by just moving round so they don’t get idle crows? It’s not. It’s an absolute waste of time for BHVR as it is not going to solve the issues at hand.
However, given they’re also choosing to just reveal the location of survivors when ‘Survivors (are) drawing out an unwinnable match by ignoring their objective and waiting out the clock’ rather than address why a match with half the team left in it is considered unwinnable shows that they have no interest in addressing the issues but wallpapering over the cracks’
