The issue is if Pinhead is standing on top of the box, survivors don't get a prompt to pick up the box at all it sounds like. They also can't do gens because chain hunt interrupts and incapacitates until they remove the chains which means they can't make repair progress during a prolonged chain hunt which means if ruin is up they will at best gens will take super long times to finish or just won't be doable at all.
That's pretty much the standard for what gets considered hostage taking in dbd. At least in function if not intent.
You can still progress gens. If he's sitting on the box, go do gens. You can do all 5 gens with 0 hooks.

Well, if you are getting genrushed and things are going south you could always try defend a good 3 gen setup and use Eruption to get an upper hand at the endga... oh, wait!!!
"Eruption will carry m- ACK!"
Killer main that never ran Eruption here, I laugh at you.
-
Or you could just get better and not get looped for 5 gens.

You think survivors are going to sit in Skull Merchant's drone zones for 10 seconds before unhooking..?? 😂
I mean, if they're unhooking, they have to. You need to run inside the drone, unhook, and run out. If that doesn't get you an expose outright, you get most of the progress towards it. On 2nd floor hooks, it guarantees the expose. If Skull Merchant also happens to be undetectable camping good luck.

Lol. RPD is a hold W fest with braindead safe pallets everywhere, Midwich is a hold W fest, Lery’s has an infinite in its main room with pallets and windows literally everywhere. Game has braindead safe pallets literally everywhere. And I haven’t even mentioned RPD and Midwich’s terrible hook spawns.
TLDR: Every indoor map in the game is garbage for killer.
This is just wrong.

@Nos37 said:
Not being allowed to place drones near hooks makes sense... Until you think of Hag
Hag can trap the hook AND teleport to the hook when activated! Skull Merchant has to walk back to the hook.
I guess since survivors cannot instantly break drones with flashlights it was deemed unfair for Skull Merchant..??
Hag is a 110 and doesn't expose you with her traps.

Can we stop using "holding the game hostage" to describe things we don't like? If he's standing on box, do gens until you get to the ones around the box, then get close to it. Simple.

-"Regression is supposed to extend the killer's time, not prevent gens from happening."
And the base value is so low it makes kicking generators be a waste of time without kick perks. We have plenty of videos where you see a 4 man SWF team finish the gens in under 3 minutes. And while this is extreme 4 minutes is still very possible. That's messed up. The killer objective is closer to 8 minutes unless the survivors make some massive mistake. And that is the problem with DBD because the time to finish generators is massively shorter than the time to finish the survivors.
You can't really defend the generators without perks and therefore must run 2-4 perks to defend generators if the survivors are efficient.
- "But I can play weak tier killer just fine in mid MMR with meme perks"
Yes that's just it.... you can play whatever at mid tiers and it works because people are not efficient.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3364593#Comment_3364593
-"Killer doesn't need to match the regression of survivors"
Killers need a meaningful way to slow down generators as part of their base kit besides : remove one player from the game. But that doesn't exist so killers just remove the first player to get hooked. What you've decided is that tunneling is fine because killers should not get meaningful generator defense perks.
Survivors got free base kit BT. Why didn't killers get free corrupt or deadlock? The answer is because survivor's wouldn't like it. The reality is that most people don't care if the killer objective gets tunneled. They only care if a survivor is marked for removal.
Objectives that cannot be defended lead to unfun feelings. This is especially the case when you are a survivor and your life becomes the killer's objective with their third hook. Most people forget that it isn't fun when you play killer and you have no chance to defend the generators. An organized team will "pre-run" whenever you focus on them and everyone else just sits on the generator with no real pressure directed towards them.
Survivors have at least 7 perks that can speed up generators. There are no meaningful perks to speed up a survivor's death. Imagine if killers had numerous perks to make you die faster. Imagine for example that the time to kill on a hook was reduced by 50-80% of what it is now. Would that be fun? The answer is no. Should that be a consideration for the game? No. What's the point in mentioning it? Maybe we shouldn't have any perks that speed up generators unless the killer can stack massive slowdown that cancels out multiple running "speed up" builds. Then the problem would be that the game would be unbearable if gens took forever and you had no "speed up" perks to cancel the slowdown.
You may or not be aware but most of the maps we have are nowhere near close to being fair. Most of them are too large, have too many safe loops or have way too many "time wasting" map features.
Now if you play Blight or Nurse all the maps are "fine". But that leaves nearly the entire killer roster with a problem. Do we just say only Blight and Nurse can play 50% of the maps? That works and is a simple fix. But most people won't like that - if you use a farm offering and you're not playing Blight or Nurse the only viable option is abattoir. A red forest offering is just outright refunded and the game picks some other map that is ~9000m².
A more simple solution is to just say give every killer 120% speed if they lack a movement power (including teleports) or projectile attack. Trapper, Pig, and Doctor would be a lot more viable with +5% base speed. Yes they would ruin a lot of the "safe" loops and that's exactly the point.
Did you even read my post? I agree with you that gen times are a problem. The solution isn't to match it with something equally problematic on the killer's side. Regression (even with perks) should never be as strong as it currently is. If survivors are doing gens too quick, we address that instead of making killers able to match that speed.

-"No, we don't need to buff reg any more."
Why would you say that?
The killer has 1/4th of the natural regression of one survivor and there are four survivors. This is a 1:16 ratio.
Killer doesn't need to match the regression of survivors, and attempting to is what leads to stale gameplay like 3-gen camping. The fun part of this game is the chase, not kicking gens. If there's an issue with survivors doing gens too fast, we address that instead of turning trials into a footsie where survivors bring BNP commos and killers bring 4x slowdown.

On "rewards kicking gens" ... yes, yes this is what we need more of because a killer NEEDS to kick gens. To not kick it is not an option based on how efficient survivors are right now.
On "Pop the weasel"
People don't run it because... it's low-key viable now... they run it because everything else was nerf to the ground so bad that this the scrap we have left!
I'm going to cry myself to sleep over how clueless these people are now
No, we don't need to buff reg any more. If survivors are too efficient, you don't nerf it by making the killer able to hold a 3 gen indefinitely; you nerf it by reducing efficiency. Basekit 60s corrupt would be much better than bringing back old pop.

"Incapacitated status is pretty unfun and definitely not healthy on a perk that really badly affected solo survivors."
So why not make an erupted generator just make the generator unable to be touched for 30 seconds? This rewards the killer for getting a down and rewards kicking generators.
Instead you ruined the perk. Remember Pop? Nobody uses it because you ruined it.
Against efficient survivors you need to end chases quickly and have some way to regress generators. You took away one of the best killer perks that encourages multiple chases.
With eruption gone the goal of every killer should now be : hard tunnel the first person hooked.
rewards kicking gens
This is precisely what we need less of
pop
Pop has been making a huge comeback lately. It's not old Pop, but it's a very underrated perk nonetheless and can let you shave off crazy gen time with PR.

In that case, I hope no one finds out that Grim Embrace is a perk that exists in DbD...
You mean the perk that activates once per game, that needs you to get 4 hooks on all survivors without all the gens popping, that blocks gens for a whole 60 seconds while survivors reset and reboon?
Yeah, how could we miss that. Oh dear no, please don't run that perk against me.
-
Killer main here. Old Eruption can burn in hellfire, along with all the unskilled baby killers (mostly Knights) that it carried to an undeserved win.
-
His visual design is on point. But his power is the least interactive in the game and makes me actively hate my life. He plays like Artist for stupid people, and 3 gen camping knights are the bane of my existence.
-
Interactivity is a big one, on both killer and survivor side. Take Blight for example. Killer has to have the awareness to bump against solid surfaces and plan out the survivor's future movement to get a hit. Survivor has to get outpositioned and outplayed.
Now take Knight. Survivor goes to a safe tile, Knight drops a guard. Either survivor gets spotted and holds W while the Knight chases for 10 seconds to get his M1, or survivor doesn't get spotted and just leaves the tile on to the next one.
We need more killers whose power requires active input from the killer to use, like Wesker or Dredge, and less babymode trash press M2 to shut down loops like Knight and SM.
-
Blinding a feral frenzy legion while injured, muahahahahah.
-
There's more to using SB than just raw numbers in a straight line. SB can let you work on unsafe gens and still get away unscathed to a tile without losing a health state, which is superior to DH in those scenarios.
-
When you say not many people are above the soft cap, are we talking about the 1600 soft cap that's supposed to split off babies from regular players? Because I find that hard to believe.

I mean the person I responded to basically wrote nothing, that's why I broke it down so simply.
They said I feel thematically spirit should have no directional sound in phase and she's not that popular so the bug is fine regardless of her current strength. I heavily disagree with these things because it removes the counter play the character has and breaks chasses down to coin flips.
But yes, my comment was meant to be as dumb as it was.
I'm aware you were being sarcastic, I was doubling down on it. If we were balancing killers based on popularity and lore, we wouldn't have much of a game.

Not popular and ghost = she should have no directional sound whatsoever.
Least incoherent DBD forums take of 2023.
-
Decent idea but knowing BHVR, it will glitch out and block power for the rest of the game for the first week after patch.
-
So the killers eat an Endurance and gives you distance as opposed to waiting 10 seconds for BT and downing you again? Sounds like good value to me.
-
@MoNosEmpire said:
The answer is honestly simple, give the killer a perk which allows them to deactivate dead hard for the remainder of the game after that survivor has been knocked, Now that specific survivor and the killer have 3 perks.
Yes, killer loses 1 of 4 perks and survivors lose 1 of 16. Fair enough.
Are you insane?
-
Dear lord, the takes you read in this forum...
OTR is currently the best survivor perk in the game. You can make it out of any deadzone and to a safe pallet, and you can bait the killer into an unproductive tunnel when paired with DS, another very strong perk.
Picture the following: killer chases me for first chase, 3 gens get done. I go down, killer hooks and decides to proxy camp because he has 1 hook and 2 gens left. Teammate unhooks unsafely, killer decides to tunnel. Can't wait out BT because I have OTR. Takes an M1 because he has to. I run to a very strong area of the map and greed pallets until I go down. Killer picks up, I hit DS with 10 seconds left to spare, I slap killer with it and I start predropping pallets. Killer is about to down me and hits DH. Last gen pops because this entire tunnel cost him 2+ minutes. I'm now on final hook with all teammates on 0 hooks and gates are 99.
Do you think those perks are still bad? Anyone who can't get value from OTR DS is a terrible looper, sorry to say.
-
Sounds like a bad case of skill issue.

So the killer's buld would be all Hex perks.
TOTH, DH, Undying, Pentimento
How exactly will the Demo protect all these Hex totems?
You really only need TOTH+Devour, but you can easily place 4 portals on 4 totems and have constant information on when a survivor is on one. Once you have 3 hooks, it's the easiest thing in the world to snowball.
-
Map design is all around garbage in this game. Garden, Cowshed, Haddonfield, Mother's Dwelling, are atrocious for almost every killer. The gold standard for map design is Wreckers Yard/Coal Tower. We need more maps like those.
-
@TeabaggingGhostface said:
Lord forbid a c tier killer can have something good for once

Yeah. And Tombstone Piece is completely fine because Myers is F tier. Being able to delete a player at random from the game isn't broken at all.
-
If we all account for all playstyles, addons, and perks: Freddy.
Trapper can camp basement, Clown has pinky finger and can shut down a lot of loops. Freddy has nothing.
-
Ever since the AI was "fixed" and guards respect pallet drops, he's not that bad anymore.
-
P100 alone takes a pretty significant time to reach. It's enough of a statement that you're committed to your character.
-
Just a PSA, for every hug tech hit I've ever gotten, I've been cheated out of 3 hits by wonky collisions. But by all means, fix bad collisions.
-
DH is bs but if you eat 3 of them at a hook, that's a skill issue.
"I had no option but to M1" uhh, if you eat a DH you lose 3 seconds. If you wait it out you waste 1 sec and get a down. No survivor will bodyblock a hook while injured without DH.
-
It's very easy to do. Turn your camera mid-bound to the direction you want to go post-grab.
-
It's hard to take people on this forum seriously when y'all are over here arguing if OC is 5% or 10%. It's 15% btw.
-
I have a solution to stop genrushing. Pain res is basekit, corrupt is basekit, deadlock is basekit, call of brine goes up to 600% regression, eruption blocks gens for 30 minutes, and BNPs make the survivor holding them Broken for the rest of the game.

Then why wasn't Eruption used before the perk update?
25 seconds VS. 16 seconds... so what then
Because the community is mostly a bunch of sheep and the gen kick meta wasn't a thing. Even with Eruption the way it is currently, it took a very long time before people discovered it. The community doesn't have a broken mechanic detector that switches to the current best perk after every update.
-
Forced Penance+Corrupt are near mandatory on Twins. Priority during Corrupt is wasting resources and injuring everyone. I like to run Deerstalker and COB for my last two perks. Use Victor to get injures if the team is already in a bad spot and you want to make someone useless. Otherwise, use him for snowballing. Also, Victor isn't bugged. His aura doesn't show if they're using the struggle. They can cancel and restart it if they're kidnapping.
-
Plague: Corrupt, Thana, Deadlock, Dying Light/COB
Legion: Corrupt, Thana, Pain Res, Jolt
Notice a trend? Corrupt is near mandatory on 90% of the roster.
-
Shadowborn on Blight, Corrupt on Trapper, Sloppy on Hagatha, Bamboozle on Billy, STBFL on Freddy.
-
I absolutely love flashlight lobbies . It lets me know a lot in advance:
Survivors will waste their time following me around while I chase instead of doing gens.
No medkits with styptic or instaheal.
No BNPs or sabo boxes.
I get a free hit every down by faking the pick up animation.
Survivors will cut their distance from pallets short by blinding me instead of simply holding W.
Yeah, keep using flashies.
-
You know what the number 1 tunneling deterrent in the game is? Not going down in 10 seconds and being the weak link.
People will whine about the color of the sky and ask it to be changed instead of just getting better at the game.
-
Just what we need, more useless perks.
Thana only gets value on Legion and Plague. Because it only gets value when everyone is injured. Don't get infected against Plague and keep one person healthy against Legion. Boom, 3 perk killer.
-
PE is 33% less efficient, not 50%. And that's entirely fine for the upside of being a pocket BNP.
-
@chatgiraffe said:
Almost everyone except for the diehard Onyro mains would admit right now that her Condemmed is near completely useless. At most, one or two survivors will bother to waste some time doing tapes. Compared to Freddys Dream World, Pig Boxes, or Doctors Snap Out, her passive ability doesn't buy her any time.
So my idea is pretty simple. Hitting a survivor with a basic attack gives the survivor one stack of condemned. 7 stacks they die like normal. Now you might think "Whaaaat! 7 hits and you just kill a survivor? That's crazy" but if you chase a survivor from injured to dying 3 times, and hook them after, thats only 6 hits total. So basically survivors won't be able to run around taking hits before healing up super quick, or they will be at risk of instant death.
Obviously, there could be some problems with this. Should endurance hits apply a stack? This would be a pretty good counter to DH, but could be pretty easy to abuse with basekit BT for tunneling. Should other sources of Condemmed like Teleporting or Tapes be removed or toned down?
What do the rest of you think.
Comparing her condemned to other slowdown powers is disingenuous asf. Dream world can be safely ignored, pig boxes are limited in quantity and can be pretty reliably removed, and snap out doesn't lead to a mori.
-
"I have a buff suggestion" proceeds to name a nerf
Why won't you just leave billy alone?
-
I can't wait until hug tech is removed and all the closet bump logic blights come out of the woodshed and start slapping survivors. Wonder what the complaint will be next?

Also Boil Over is still super underwhelming, even with the recent buff. Since successful skill checks no longer give any extra wiggle progress, you're less likely to be able to escape before the killer finds a hook, UNLESS you're definitely running Boil Over and even bring that Ashley Williams perk. As it is right now, wiggling is not as viable as it was before
I can only imagine those with 0 reflexes or skill will find even more trouble if they miss several skill checks towards the end, when the bar gets really small.
Why do you think you're entitled to a faster escape because you can hit easy skill checks? If killer picks you up, he should be able to hook you assuming he's not going for a hook super far away. Also, new Boil Over is extremely annoying.
