i do what i need to do to win, if i need to milk it i will. i know what happens if i dont hard tunnel at 5 gens… i lose. why would i want that?
In my opinion, and I could be wrong, it sounds more like you've convinced yourself that it's a requirement. It's a bit like going next. As Survivor, you know when a trial is cooked but you don't need to go next. It's just easier to. And yet that was removed, while tunneling still hangs around without any nerfs.

why? part of the game just like perks or items or survivor tactics like looping, pre run or stealth
Because it's ironic and frankly silly that you state you need to tunnel while also admitting that you milk it as far as it can go. It's an oxymoron.

My Last 10 survivor matches:
- Doctor

- Wraith
- Huntress

Most of them won. Guess the pallets aren't ruining their matches, nor did they help mine.
They'd be great for those pallet challenges if I didn't keep getting matched with stealth killers. 😵

…And at least one of the surveys was rigged to be survivor sided!!!!
Survivors get to say "Killer powers or add-ons are unbalanced" and "Excessive tunneling and camping"
Killer don't get to select anything bad about survivors. Where is the "Survivor items or add-ons are unbalanced", or "generator speeds are too fast"?
How on earth is BHVR supposed to gather data about killers being unhappy, if the surveys are rigged against killers?
It was one survey if I remember correctly, and given how the surveys on things like limited time cosmetics, linked sets, event modifiers, and so on were handled, I'd take it with a grain of salt. Speaking personally.

Have you ever played the game before that patch? It was EXTREMELY MISERABLE for killers that NO ONE wants to play killer. Killer queues were always instant, whereas survivors have to wait 5-10 minutes for one game.
I did and I hear that a lot but I don't know that I agree. I remember the game being incredibly busted for a long time, but by the time they introduced the patch, a lot of that had been toned down or reverted. And seeing how Killers operate now when the game has become more accessible than ever… it just seems like nothing will ever be good enough.
-
I still play and probably always will, but I'm not nearly as devoted to it as I used to be. Trust me, I'd like to be, but you have to give me something to do. And I don't know what there is to do as Survivor anymore. I'd play more Killer like many others have, but it's never really been my thing. I'm way too casual for it.

i agree there could be a lot more to the game than simply repair gens, other games have done it like f13th and TCM, they could also make the game have health bars instead of hook states and lose the hooks altogether because lets face it, who enjoys being stuck on the hook with nothing to do? all these changes sum up to a different game entirely and it wouldnt be dbd anymore.
I'd be fine with keeping this version of DBD if it's what drove sales, but I don't think it is. Players have wanted a better experience for a long time now. But ironically, since the sales aren't tied to gameplay, BHVR realistically never has to do anything about the gameplay if they don't want to.

Well, BHVR literally can't do anything because they refuse to actually address the real balance issues with the game and the community is, quite frankly, too dull to critically think about it. They aren't going to push through actual changes that would prevent tunneling or slugging because then SWF will just abuse the hell of it, right? Making Killer matches even more miserable. So whatever they push live has to not really embolden SWF which in turn means it won't do jack ######### for SoloQ…. which is the area this issue most affects, right?
Meanwhile, BHVR claims, via stats, that most Survs are in SoloQ, but any suggestion of actual balance changes for SWF, who statistically are the minority group of Survs in DBD, is met with extreme pushback and threats of leaving. Yet again, SoloQ is in the worst state it's ever been to where BHVR is rushing to bandaid fix this mess, but the majority of Surv players, again stat wise, is claimed to be SoloQ. It's a circular mess that both BHVR and the community refuses to actually address because they want the upper hand in the game instead of an actually balanced game.
SWF should receive nerfed, SoloQ should receive targeted buffs and all Killers balanced out around that.
I feel like the bulk of Killer complaints are stuck in the past.
-
BHVR was willing to nuke the entire game 4 years ago in favor of Killer; they're willing to make the endgame one-sided in favor of Killer; they keep Survivor perks in a weak state in favor of Killer; they even delete systems designed to help Survivor in favor of Killer.
At this point, I feel like so much has been tried to please Killer and it hasn't worked. Even when the game is handed to them, it's not enough. There is literally nothing you can do to break the victim complex prevalent with so many Killer mains. So I don't think it's the worst idea ever to focus on Survivor for a while. In my opinion.
-
I wouldn't worry about it. More than likely they're going to. I said it before, but I think this is BHVR's way of saying they tried to address loops and it didn't work, so back to the drawing board. It's par for the course at least. In my opinion.
-
The whataboutism is exhausting.

abt that may i ask you, if you dont mind answering of course, what exactly micro and macro play would be? i think i have a bit of an idea, but im not certain if i got it right (micro = chases, macro = the overall result of the match)
That's basically it, yeah.
To me, macro for Killer is about zoning the Survivors. Making sure that they're never left alone for too long and patrolling them in a way that prevents them from powering the gates.
Micro for Survivor is doing gens, healing, and unhooking with room to complete side objectives, which add up in the long run.
There is some gray area when it comes to chases and teamwork, things like that. But overall the Killer is meant to have larger objectives that take time while the Survivors have smaller objectives that end quickly. That's where the two roles balance out in the end.

So basically my experience playing on Asian servers
No wonder why killers there have lower killrate and survivors escape more
I kind of love that that's where we're going now. Everyone in the world has to adjust their playstyle to that of one region that's figured out how to get through this mess rather than the developer taking adequate measures to address the mess itself. And if you don't, then you're not trying. At what point is DBD just a game anymore?
-
For Survivor at least (haven't played Killer this event), it's all risk and no reward. At best the crystals are somewhere between BNP and Potential Energy on gens (i.e. it's better to just be on the gen than rely on the crystal to do it) and detonating them is as useful as Fog Vials (aka not at all). The Void is definitely more dangerous than it used to be as well. So the only real motivation to do it is completing challenges for Felix's outfit.
-
I hate to be a Debbie Downer, but they might add regression and conveniently decide not to add any comeback against it.
-
I think it's more that because of how the roles operate, Killer is meant to be much more of an overseer that controls macro play while Survivor commands the micro play and therefore has less weight behind their decisions (in the moment). It can work well, but there's a lot of factors to consider. Neglect has made it so that the optimal plays are for Killer to be overwhelmingly micro so that the Survivors have to play macro to overcome it. And surprisingly they are overcoming it to some degree, but it's poisoning the game.
So, in short, Killer is popular and players demand immediate returns on their powers even though they're not meant to operate that way.
-
Had BHVR allowed modding to stay in the game, it would've been an easy mod to implement. Otherwise I don't think it's happening unless they get one of the 80s licenses.
-

voice chat would be nice, but that would require BHVR to start banning people that are toxic and that's alotta work and ppl will still be slippin through.
DBD players can't handle banter so they'd never do it.
-
I believe the stats, since they also reflect my own (based on milestones). But the game is still so miserable in solo because of the amount of systems you end up being at the mercy of. Bad matchmaking screws you over, regardless of how well you play; new Killer powers that are meant to steamroll you with ease unless you're incredibly coordinated; smaller maps and less resources that limit your ability to recover; among other things. The pallet update is a thing, but we all know it's not staying.
-
Not to gloat or be a d*ck, but it's almost as if abandoning is worse for the game than going next.
-
I've been waiting for them to fix Baermar's anniversary outfit since the event itself as well. They noticed it and instead of checking whatever flag or moving it to the right folder (whatever it takes), it's still unfixed.
-
I think it is. That only means that in the majority of scenarios the Killer has the upper hand. It doesn't mean that they will always succeed or that it will always feel fulfilling. And I believe the psychological impact of playing Killer is highlighted more often than the actual gameplay.
-
I like the concept but I don't think it works outside of rewards for not DCing.
It doesn't solve any issues with the game, it's still incredibly one-sided, and easily infallible if it becomes too big. We also have to consider that as much as we the audience would enjoy extra Iris for it, that would never fly with BHVR. We'd be getting 100k BP or 100 Rift Fragments or something equally as pitiful that wouldn't be worth engaging with the system at all. In my opinion.
I think in the grand scheme of things, it's a bit of a rock and a hard place. The game needs to be fixed and anything outside of that is a distraction. However, the game isn't getting fixed even when an entire year is dedicated to fixing it.
-
Based on what we've seen, I think they're always "testing" things behind the scenes without telling us. Whenever something evades the killswitch, I feel like it's something they're gathering data on. Which, if that's the case, they should really be more transparent about it. You can't really lie to your audience and then expect them to have a good relationship with you. In my opinion.
-
I think the outfit is alright but not my thing personally. Glad you like it. 😎

Myers finally becomes B-Tier after 10 years and suddenly he's miserable to play against and must demand nerfs.
Honestly Myers deserves his time to shine and anybody complaining should just face back to back Ghoul and Krasues
I didn't call for nerfs, THANK YOU VERY MUCH. 😤
But having the upper hand in every pallet race just seems really miserable for solo, considering he's a very common Killer to encounter as is. I don't see that pallet update lasting very long either, so he'll dominate most trials when he already does pretty well as is.
-
Based on what I've seen, he seems really unfun to play against now. I'm seeing a lot of 5 gen Abandons against him in my future.

Yeah, it was discovered pretty fast. It's difficult to trigger but it's been active this whole time.
-
It was re-enabled months ago. I wanna say the first patch after they removed it. But they didn't announce it and they're still very hush-hush about it for whatever reason.
-
I was gonna comment in the report that it feels pointless. I'm guessing their angle is that they don't want someone changing names and psyching people out or bullying, but I dunno. I feel like that's a non-issue.
-
Being Tunneled repeatedly makes me quit for the day for the day.
Not just me but if my teammates get tunneled often, it makes me want to quit too. Even if I get trials where we're able to overcome it, it's always by the skin of our teeth and depends severely on luck. Enough of it gets me fatigued enough to where I don't even try any more—I either sit on gens and ignore everything else, or I stand still in chases. That's when I know it's time to log out. And sometimes that's within 5 trials or less.
-
My library is primarily hi-NRG, house, pop, alternative, and nu-metal and I hit shuffle while I play. 😵
-
For me, it'll always be David. I personally just like him. Unfortunately I don't think BHVR really knows who he is and hasn't known for a long time, so there isn't a lot of new content I love for him. But even if they ignored him for the rest of the game's lifespan, I would still choose him first and foremost.
Second would be Alan. I just vibe with him a lot.
Third and honestly final is Vittorio. I don't play him nearly as often as I used to, but I still have a soft spot for him.
Honorable mentions include Leon, Chris, Carlos, Jonah, Jeff, James, Felix, Claire, Lisa, and Maria.
-
I think it's as simple as you've stated. The issues come into play given the state of the game itself and how BHVR chooses to interpret the term "asymmetrical".
When tunneling is as prominent and powerful as it is, it starts to get a little nuanced. At the heart, tunneling is simply chasing the unhooked Survivor off the hook and ignoring anyone and anything else. But being found too soon before the Survivor has time to reset and start a new objective feels like tunneling, which is where a lot of the confusion comes from. That's the point where you start to plateau with BP/XP and you stop playing the game in any meaningful way. I believe it's tangential to tunneling and that it does count to a degree, regardless of intention, because the end result is ultimately the same.
That goes for slugging too. There are lots of ways slugging can go down, but there isn't much nuance there since it's literally being in the dying state while not on hook. The main issue is what happens while you're slugged. The Killer downing you and ignoring you so other Survivors can pick you up and heal you is very different from the Killer downing you and standing on top of you all trial. While not as powerful as tunneling, it still does more than I think it should. I don't believe that Killer should be able to down one Survivor, go off and down others, then have enough time to come back and hook that initial Survivor with ease. It's part of why Abandon is getting so much use in trials since being implemented.
Personally I think they should be as closely aligned to catchup mechanics as possible, which should also be the goal of any "anti" system. That is where they become fair and healthier for gameplay. Gutting them would fall into unfair territory, but so is leaving them unchecked.

Nevermind, I was fortunate enough to find a couple of groups of survivors that permitted me to farm this.
FYI for the future it is asinine to have a goal that requires your opposition to assist you in completing it. If I hadn't gotten groups of kind survivors this either would not have happened or would have taken forever organically.
They tend to be wishy washy about it. They'll do a challenge like this and then you won't see any for a while and you're like, ugh thank God they finally listened. And then immediately after there's another one. 😭

Yes, those psychological aspects are a very good point. It can be very stressful trying to voice your feelings or fears about any given topic when you feel as if the risk of those pushing back against it are very high. This might be a bit of a tin-foil bit on my end, but I feel as though nuance and communication has suffered deeply in our Wild West digital age. The courage people have to say things under the guise of anonymity online can result in devastating consequences or the admittance of one’s most vulnerable moments in time. I feel those that venture on the forums and actually interact have a different kind of investment in this game then probably the majority of players who are likely very casual. So it goes without saying that everyone here is very passionate about the game, and passionate about their experiences and their solutions to things that they believe to be problems. Because for the most part it’s the community who defines what is a problem or not, which means everyone is wrong and everyone is right, until BHVR steps in to give us those clear answers (something that occurs very rarely , I feel).
Anyway, sorry got a little lost there but yes, I agree with you and I can only hope that things improve in the way our community respects one another and considers the various psychological differences we, as individuals may be experiencing.
Very well put, I agree.

This right here. I feel this is such an important aspect that isn’t talked about enough. It’s almost as if many feel that if they were to admit that killer is the stronger, more successful role, then that means that the role is fine and doesn’t need help. 2 things can absolutely be true at once. Killer can still win more then they lose but also still not enjoy the role in its current state. And in the same way, survivor can still lose more than they win and still not enjoy the role in its current state. I feel when people try to deny these actual statistical facts, because of a possible fear of their feelings of dissatisfaction being invalidated, that it’s how things turn so seemingly personal, and those get stuck in a constant cycle of denial, tribalism, and some kind of a battle of “my problems are real but yours aren’t.”
A big part of that too I think is how anecdotal the game can be. For instance, I was in the 20-percentile escape rate last 2v8 which was apparently pretty rare, but my perspective on that is very different from someone that was escaping the majority of their trials. But where we can meet in the middle is that the mode still needs some work.
Additionally, I think the psychological aspect tends to dominate the conversation too. Someone feels inadequate playing the power role against 4 people that aren't on their side only to come to the forum, get a downvote, and feel like the whole world is against them. That's not something anyone can control, but it's still a very important component to the discussion.

Cruel and usual punishment (to game scale) in my opinion. It's the equivalent of putting a dunce cap on you while you sit in the corner.
-
I think the data only tells one story. I think it's accurate, at least via my own stats. But I also think that that doesn't mean the game is fun nor in a good place. So maybe Killers are only guilty of the exact thing they accuse Survivors of—being too caught in their feelings with the game. Maybe they still get the 3 or 4k often enough, but the path to getting there feels like they're having to fight for it and that's not fun for them.

I don't have any sympathy for someone who is like "eww, it's the ghoul" DISCONNECT
Now, if you have accessibility issues with a killer, like say if Doctor's effects cause seizures or you have emetophobia and can't play against the Plague with her vomit, that's understandable. You don't have to. But I personally find that DBD is the wrong game to really feel too morally strong about when it comes to players. If we really wanted to encourage good behavior, there's a million ways to do that that aren't being implemented.

That's the downside of releasing Killers that are too oppressive at first. Even if you tone them down, the reputation sticks and no one wants to go against them. Case in point, Skull Merchant isn't the worst to play against anymore. But I still dread it purely because of how miserable she was to go against. This is happening to every new Killer, so it's going to be the trend moving forward I assume.

I doubt they'll be adding any older Survivors in future, to be honest. Not unless they are licensed, anyway. And even that's no guarantee. We could have had Barry Wheeler wearing fairy lights from Alan Wake as a Legendary but we got Rose Marigold instead 🙃
Vitorrio's meant to be in his 50's yet he doesn't look a day over 30 (even though he's from an era that hadn't invented sunscreen or toothpaste yet). Nope, we'll be getting 20 something cuties from now until the end of days because that's what sells to the player base.
It might be because they only got the rights to Alan Wake 2, not 1 or American Nightmare. But I don't know if that's the case or not.

Slugging everyone early on is a gloating thing in my opinion. More often than not, it's stronger Killers going against uncoordinated Survivors. Is that a problem? Absolutely. Is it getting fixed? Probably not.

Maybe they did it to gather data on some of the more slanted maps with the new pallets? That would make some sense. It does seem to be maps that lean towards one side or the other.
I'm sure it's for some reason. But it'd be nice to be told and not have to speculate. 😰

The crazy thing is that we might actually believe this is just a bug or confirmation bias if they weren't constantly changing things in the background without telling us.
