Disconnects don´t affect MMR.
Its like the match never happened.

Thats why balancing the game around kills vs escapes doesn´t work.
On paper she has a okayish kill rate, because of the condemn mechanic. But in reality she is just extremely addon dependant and doesn´t get many hooks.
I´ll never understand why the tvs have a 100 second cd and the dredge can forever teleport from one locker to another.

Literally the only use of them is stacking it with blood pact and playing on a 2 story map to abuse it. Not fun for either side tbh
Wait for the next ones. Since its a new perk category, there will come more perks specifially for SWF.

To be fair this is kinda hind sight 20/20
It's true that her power heavilly leans into 3 genning but that didn't mean it would have resulted in 45 minute games
In the ptb her 3 genning wasen't a problem at all with the cooldown on drones, if the survivors took out her 3 3gen drones at the same time she couldn't replace them all instantly.
It's always really easy afterwards to say how obvious something is
Fair enough

You guys realize the whole '3 gen!' Complaints only started recently right? Like it was never a big issue people talked about before knight. If Plague was released today she'd get the same amount of heat for how good she is at 3 gunning.
Well it started to get popular once SM was released and everyone who wanted to 3 gen, used her to 3 gen. I mean, even top SWF streamers struggle against a SM 3 genning.

They probably knew and it was on the list of changes to be made.
But why was the whole concept greenlighted?
Did no one think about how the community would react to a killer, whos only power is to 3 gen?
-
A rework of the whole Mori System would be cool. Instead of having the finisher, which lead to slugging and was overall unfun or the current mori system we currently have (lets face it, when was the last time you saw someone use a mori?). They could simply add the Mori as a natural death hook. With each killer having a couple different moris.
-
Omg, and i thought that i was getting insane. Failing them left n right. It took me over 10 matches to reach 3... often failing several in the same match.

There is a difference between voicing your concerns and screaming at the top of your lungs the game is going to die cause we got a lady with a silly mask and not a robot.
This isn't about the helpfull feedback people left, this is about the people who yell the game is going to die before they even could have downloaded the ptb and mostly come from people who later reveal they haven't even played the game for months
If people only yelled how the devs are out of touch and the game is doomed without even telling why they think that nothing would change either
Ahh ok. My bad then.
Game has been "dying" since 2016 and i must have unconciously ignored the "game is dead" threads.
-
This would be a massive buff for survivors and a massive nerf for killers.
-
How about buffing C-Tier killers so people get to see more variety?
The same people that complain about only facing the same killers are usually the first ones to demand nerfs for already weak killers. Then they go all pikachu face when no one plays those killers.

No, I'd rather people don't be so "the game is over" all over social media just because the devs made a mistake or didn't come to people's expectations. Why would a bad (or ugly like some say) killer end this game? Why everything must be so SHOCKING and apocalyptical? One mistake and suddenly the devs don't care about the game.
Do you understand it?
While i´m not one of the doom guys, i think sometimes a bucket of cold water can be really wake some people up.
Killer concept was going to be used obviously to lock down 3 gens. If the community wouldn´t have voiced their concern or even worse, just quietly left. Then absolutely nothing would have changed.

SM should have never been released with the concept of locking down 3 gens.
Hard Disagree. Not only would this be impossible, because nobody can predict everything, but also you need to make mistakes to get things right anyway. Failure is a beautiful thing cause you learn and improve.

I don't think that that this is a 10 days decision. it seems unreasonable that bHVR would do something that quick. Nor do bHVR seem to design with the worst players in mind, rather to make a fun game. So when a Killer like Skull Merchant is gearing up for release the values are already relaxed and a theory is being developed on what is wrong and solutions then need to be tested, developed and released. I don't know for sure ofc, but that explains how they could seemingly crank it out in 10 days.
I have been told by an employee I talk to that the PTB isn't used as much for making sure the Release is flawless, but more to get a head start on bug fixing, taking care of the serious issues and laying the groundwork for balance discussions, theory and solutions to those problems. Its not unreasonable that a list is formed for Skull Merchant of things that needs to get fixed and bHVR is simply chugging out the list right now. You agree this is natural for a Live Service Game?
I'd love to hear a deep explanation from the Community Managers as a more official telling on when problems starts becoming more apparent and what solutions are being cooked over time as feedback comes in.
A killer whos power is to completely denial up to 4 areas in the game...
Killers using said power to shut down 3-4 gens that are next to each other.
No one could have predicted this? Like... really?

3-genning is viable strategy that has a place in this game, just like chase-oriented (anti-loop) and stealth-based killers. Not every killer needs to basically shut survivors down at loops.
You are right. 3 genning is a absolutely viable strategy. BUT designing a killer whos only purpose is to 3 gen... and nothing else. Makes for a kinda unfun game experience for both sides.

She's such a horrible design that I wouldn't mind if they Freddy'd her.
Go back to the drawing board and make a new Killer who can do stuff besides 3-gen.
While yes, this also puts things like previous released killers that still haven´t gotten any rework, because the devs wanted to wait and see, into perspective.
SM should have never been released with the concept of locking down 3 gens. Since its a terribly boring way to play the game.

Might be due to everyone and their mother collectively agreeing that she was both ######### to play as and infuriating to play against
These emergency changes will probably help with the latter but I doubt it'll do much to address the former
The ability of the SM to 3 gen was painfully obvious from the moment the PTB went live. Which means that the devs knew what this killer was going to be used for. Which also means, that they should have been prepared for what came. But this just looks like a rushed band aid.
EDIT: Typo
-
What i´m more surprised is the speed in which they took this decision.
I mean, devs said that they didn´t want to make any... how do i put it nice... "quick balance decisions on new killers" anymore. Yet, this was announced 10 days after the SM released. I´m getting Freddy vibes here.
-
Years, and i really mean, years ago the devs considered a refreshing BW effect on hook. But tbh, being able to activate it on the push of a button makes so much more sense.
Survivors want to spend the whole EGC to wait at the exit gate for the killer in order to show him their awesome butt dance? Well there is a solution for that!
-
To be honest, i´ve been looking at this with disbelieve for a couple of minutes and... well... i guess everything the other side doesn´t like is considered meta now.

No, I'm pointing out that the devs don't mind people's time being wasted (slugging), but claim they don't want people's time being wasted (waiting for a decent match).
If anything, let the slugged survivor concede and move on, and let a survivor bot crawl on the ground.
But so many problems could be solved by just removing the hatch and starting the EGC automatically once there is only 1 survivor left.
- survivors ratting out their teammates
- survivors hiding and doing nothing in the hope the other survivor gets found first
- slugging for 4k
- general toxicity because of the hatch

I've been rather curious as to how often people are getting backfilled into my lobbies as Survivor, so I decided to record how many times (on average) the Killer dodges a lobby I'm in before the game actually starts.
Keep in mind that I've only been recording this for about a week, ever since I hit P70.
On average, Killers will dodge and force a backfill 3.6 times before the game actually starts. It's been getting longer recently as well.
I wonder how this affects the match quality and I wonder how much having a high Prestige has to do with it.
What's your experience? Personally, I think that if you dodge (assuming you don't see a potential cheater) you are knowingly and purposefully screwing up the system.
Now that i read this again. It could explain the few but extremely inconsistent matches i had today. One match i got survivors way under my skill level, with 8 hooks at gen 3gens up. The next match i got the fifth hook right at the time the last gen was completed.

that would be problematic because of the entitlement of the people who are playing this game: to make an example yesterday i did a match with the wraith with meme addons and a meme build centered around chasing only the obsession (i had furtive chase paired with rancor for a "russian roulette" game). In that match 2 survivors were particularly annoying since they were toxic af, one of them was killed before the last gen popped (fully deserved) and the other one dc on purpose because she was the obsession and i had rancor while she was opening the exit gate (endchat she even told me that i was a loser... hard to say this when she was essencially at her last hook and died to a killer with that kind of build without slowdown perks).
Anyway the point is that people will tend to ABUSE it whenever they'll found something that they'll consider unfunny: oh the killer is a blight? dc. Oh the killer has some strong and unfun addons/perks? dc. Oh the killer is tunneling/camping/slugging? dc. Oh the survivors aren't bad and i won't get an easy win? dc
Oh absolutely. DC penalty has its place and whenever they temporally turn it off, people dc left n right for absolutely no reason and no one can play a normal match.
-
Issue has been going on for over 2 years. So... turn the penalty off forever?

I just cannot see them adding a SWF indicator. The devs are loath to actively change anything that will increase lobby dodging, and such an indicator would to a truly insane level. And that in turn leads to much more backfilling & the resultant poor matchmaking. It's all interconnected sadly.

Even with the HUD update, I still believe that SWF will carry this stigma that will make such an implementation impossible. It'll always be the boogyman that seemingly makes killer impossible to play because nothing can go wrong with a survivor group. They have communication and that'll obviously make all of them expert loopers with meta perks that will teabag at every pallet stun and all have 5k hours in.
Don't get me wrong, it would be interesting to see this. But I don't trust this community to use this information well. It'll likely just spawn a new generation of martyrs that'll complain about an asymetrical game not being balanced.
Well they could test it. See if everyone dodges how they claim. If so, they could add a bloodpoint bonus to see if that helps, if not then well. Just a test that can be backrolled.

This is why the devs should implement a match limit of 25 minutes max. They can then balance killers and maps around that limit and prevent long boring matches.
Should have been done a long time ago.
Well tbf, they reduced the max timer to an hour not to long ago. But yeah 25-30 minutes should be the max amount of time a match takes.
Or even better, both sides should have the option to concede. Like the killer opening the gates without any gen requirements and survivors to bleed out faster/die after wiggling off 3 times in a row.

You mean show SWF in the pre-game lobby? No way they'd be dodged into oblivion and never ever get a match. Why that is so would be another thread entirely. Post-game I'd have no problem showing that, but others do.
But it isn't just SWF that pull off bodyblocking. Any decent survs with good game sense will block for their mates. It is certainly much easier to pull off on comms but not unheard of. Good solos are very often bodyblocking at the open gates for instance.
Its about the coordination. Yes, absolutely, solo survivors can body block effectively. BUT that usually requires a perk like Bond to actually see where the other survivors are in order to pull it off in a more efficient way than just getting injured and hoping for the best.
Even the more reason to give killers said SWF indicator. Since the HUD update was supposed to bring solos on par with SWF.
But you´re right, thats a whole different thread.

COH and DH I will completely agree with you on, however I'd like to point out that Undying remained meta even after it's nerf because Ruin was simply that good (and was then overnerfed into oblivion, taking out Undying with it because no hex perk is worth the slot anymore, let alone 2 of them). Also, I'd like to point out that DS and IW, arguably some of the strongest survivor perks pre-6.1.0, have both been hit with the nerf hammer so hard they fell out of basically any and all use.
On DS i also agree with you. 3 Seconds seems way to short and i honestly thought, that the devs would reverse it to 5 seconds, like they did in the past. IW however was on par with Spirits phase walk and since this is now cristal clear to hear for survivors...
But yeah, not working while exhausted also seems a bit to much for me.

I think we don't understand each other.
I will play the same (and at least in my MMR - other solo people will sometimes join me) in regards to bodyblocking and no matter if I play solo or SWF. My playstyle will be exactly the same. Meaning - if I am in the lobby and depending on what you wrote - you will swear I am part of SWF - even when I am playing 100% solo never seeing those people I play with before...
Oh i totally understand you. But in order to be as coordinated as solo as a SWF team is, you would have to take perks like Bond.
Which means, that you use a perk slot that could be used for something else. Just like the killer would have to do.
Thats why its perfectly fine for solo survivors to body block. But SWF can get to much power with it.
-
@Gandor said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3371361#Comment_3371361
This is not a SWF thing. I will bodyblock hook even if playing solo. Even if the gate is already open. And when I know that the person will get out because of it (and carried survivor played good - earning my respect) even if it means I will be downed and not getting out of the match.
Thats why i said, that its a completely valid tactic, as long as killers get to see which survivors play in a SWF team.
Since solos usually arent as coordinated.

@Aven_Fallen said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3371361#Comment_3371361
First of all, you dont need to be in an SWF to be smart with Bodyblocking. Solo-Players can have a brain as well. And both Solo-Players and SWF can be bad at Bodyblocking and give the Killer way too much pressure by doing so. Furthermore, regardless of playing against SWFs or Solos, if someone really has a big problem with Survivors bodyblocking, they can just always bring Starstruck or Mad Grit.
Second, removing the ability for the Killer to bodyblock a Hook is totally different. A Killer blocking a Hook means that there was no way at all to unhook a hooked Survivor. A Survivor bodyblocking the Hook can still lead to the Killer hooking the Survivor they are carrying. And might even be helpful if the bodyblocking Survivor goes down.
@Topic:
Bodyblocking a Hook or the Killer in general is teamwork. It is good that teamwork is supported and allowed. Furthermore, it can even be beneficial for the Killer if the Survivors mess up. I have seen Survivors going down while trying to bodyblock which completely shifted the game.
And if you really dont want to see Survivors bodyblocking you, you can always run Mad Grit or Starstruck. First will very likely give you a down when they try to bodyblock and the latter will prevent them from trying in the first place.
Solos usually aren´t as coordinated as SWF though. Thats why i said, and i repeat, that its completely valid, as long as killers get shown which survivors are playing in a SWF group.
-
This year i haven´t seen: Twins, Freddy, Hag and Dredge.

When killer perks get nerfed, they usually get nerfed so hard, that they completely vanish. Or when was the last time you´ve seen Ruin or Undying?
Meanwhile, when survivor perks get nerfed, they still remain the most used perks like CoH or DH.

@JPLongstreet said:

Bodyblocking a hook is risky teamwork but completely valid, and often the only defense when the carried surv is on death hook. It's even more risky then a timely sabo play as they could squirt away and all you can do is slug.
As others have pointed out, there are perks like Mad Grit, Agitation, Iron Grasp, Starstruck, etc. all designed exactly to deal with this. If it happens that often to you pry off a gen regression perk & give one of them a spin. Each and every killer can get value from those perks. Also such altruism can lead to strong snowballing if taken advantage of.
Killers like saying "there's no guaranteed escapes" but it is also true "there's no guaranteed hooks" either.
As i already said, completely valid as long as killer can prepare for it by seeing if survivors are in a SWF group.

@Dreamnomad said:
Of all the things to cry foul on, this isn't one of them. If you aren't carrying a survivor to a far away hook then you'll easily be able to get the survivor hooked even if you hit a survivor or two on the way. There are also killer perks to counter this if it really bothers you.
@Aurelle said:
Body blocking is a valid strategy against the killer. There's perks like Starstruck, Mad Grit, Iron Grasp, etc to counter it too.
All valid points IF killers could see what survivors are playing in a SWF.
But since killers have to take a wild guess, they can´t prepare for it.
Devs removed the killers ability to body block the hook years ago. Same should happen for survivors. Especially since there are still offerings that increase the distance of hooks and the RNG can make some hooks unreachable on certain maps. Survivors complain that killers slug, but what are they supposed to do, when they can´t reach the hook and survivors body block with DH?
-
The fact that the only thing survivors complain about is, that it could spawn next to a hooked survivor, tells you everything you need to know about how "strong" it currently is.

If you want to do them expect people to be mad but don’t let that stop you. I personally don’t do them because I enjoy playing a fair game even if I lose
Survivors have a good reason to be mad at a 40 minute game just as killers have a reason to be mad at a 3 minute one
When a match takes that long, the survivors are at the same fault as the killer. Neither wants to give up, no matter how boring it is.
Best choice for both sides would be to simply give up after a certain amount of time and move on to the next match. But many people are to proud to take the loss.
