My guess is that, because they're the ones you're forced to buy, they want the better perks and stronger killers to be original characters that you either have for free or can grind for shards so nobody feels forced to purchase a killer.

The only exceptions to this have happened recently- during the Gen Kick Meta with Eruption and COB, and with the release of Whiskas.

Maybe Whiskas was a test to see how a iconic killer, who isn´t pay2lose, would be acctepted by the community.

Title really, it doesnt take someone with two working braincells to see that BHVR saw Sadako had high killrates last year and decided to destroy her from orbit, now making her one of if not the worst killer in the game.

But why wont they just admit what everyone knows is true

Because the first reaction of many people on this forum and even some streamers was, that its a buff.

Some were really euphoric and refused to believe that it was a nerf (maybe also because of the streamers). So thats why.

  • Still bad.

The cd of shut down tvs is simply to long for consitent hit&run attacks.

The advantage of holding a tape is still to strong in comparison.

  • Because the other killers aren´t fun at higher mmr? With being fun i mean the amount of sweat, the other killers require to keep going.

Or would you run a Trapper with a fun build, if you knew 3 gens are gone before you placed half of your traps? Or that someone takes Victor for a ride, while the gens pop left n right and you consider your life choices? Or when you play Doctor and after the first blast you get a dc, because "doctor is boring".

Fact is, that more often than not, survivors complain after the match, when a killer played XXX. That this killer is boring, autowin, no skill, etc.

I was asking Sadako buffs for long time... And it ended with nerfing her :(

The Sadako nerf was sad. Everyone cheered that she finally gets some love and it ended up a hard nerf. Maybe there is that one Sadako main, that distorts the kill rates on high mmr. You know? Like that one Twins main, thats a beast on high mmr and prevents some QoL changes for them.

We need to apply reverse psychology.

    Buff Nurse!

  • Careful what you wish for. Last time people asked for a nurse nerf, she got actually buffed.

Remember, the devs only balance around stats. As long as the stats don´t show that she is so oppressing as people claim, the devs won´t do anything.

Maybe nerf Pig, but thats about it.

  • You made me chuckle.

    Not fun huh?

Nemesus can be fun. Mainly due to the Zombies and how they can turn into MVP for both sides.

  • Then survivors will just suicide on hook instead.

Totally beats the purpose of the bots.

  • Its not only about south america (which i haven´t mentioned). But anywhere far away from the hubs.

P2p had the advantage that you could play wherever you are. The dedicated servers made that harder for people in remote areas.

And they call the DBD community entitled but where's the evidence eh?

    I simply couldn´t resist.

    in hello Comment by Tsulan
  • There is a simple solution to this: introduce a p2p mode for people that live far away from the servers.

That way, no one gets punished and everyone can play with the game they paid for.

I know, you don´t really want to hear this: I don't really care what anyone says, it ruins the integrity of the match from the get-go and there's literally nothing you can do and happens often enough to be really annoying.

But the people that live far away from the servers have the same right to play as you.

  • The irony of this thread.

dead by daylight is a pvp game and a killer shouldn't cry if he doesn't get a surv, he should accept it

Could it be a possibility that the killer they were versing simply wasn't good?

Absolutely. The killer was bad, no doubt. But what was annoying, was how the streamer first made fun of the killer and then asked for the bloodlust nerf.

Bloodlust was a bandaid to reduce (near) infinites. I´m sure the devs aren´t happy about the whole mechanic. But it is what it is. Unless people want to have less pallets/windows or basekit faster killers.

Yup that sounds about right. And I definitely agree that gen regress is also a shadow of what it used to be. Sucks that this game consistently seems to force meta perks for killers. I love running meme builds as killer but it sucks when you play against meta perks so often.

I also love running meme or at least my own builds. I hope that we see a meta shake up soon. Because the last time was the most fun for me. Where everything felt fresh. With no meta established. No one judging, because i wasn´t using meta perks. Just fun.

I think the only reason anti tunnel perks aren’t super meta (I definitely see OtR a lot) is because they’re simply not very good at what they do. DS is a shadow of what it used to be and OtR can be rather useless if they simply hit you early off the hook. Chase perks can be just as effective at anti tunnel and don’t require you to be hooked first to activate (barring dead hard). And it might be a region thing but tunneling is the go to strategy for killers I play against. I see it in a vast majority of my games, whether it happens to me or one of my teammates. If DS was a 5 second stun I think it’d easily be one of the most popular perks for survivor.

See, the slowdown meta also isn´t exactly good. Most slowdown perks are, as you say, a shadow of their former self. Yet killers still feel forced to use them if they want a decent match.

The nerf on DS was a bit to harsh. But then again, it was weaponized before that. Survivors hugged gens in the presence of the killer with DS active, knowing full well that the killer couldn´t pick them up. 5 seconds seems a good middle point, without going back to what it was before (unhealthy).

Just checked the screenshots of my last 10 matches (small sample i know) and my teammates had: DS x3 ,OtR x2 ,DH x2 ,MFT x6, WoO x15, Hope x3, Adrenaline x11, and Prove Thyself x8.

I also play in EU and I very rarely see it. It also doesn't make any sense why they do it. It has no benefit whatsoever for them or their teammate the majority of the time (exception being their teammate being on death hook) and I play solo.

I´ve seen people on death hook trying to body block. All kinds of weird behavior.

As of why, i have absolutely no idea. Its just stuff that i see and notice.

  • @Nebula said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3487702#Comment_3487702

Eh, chase perks are the survivor meta because the majority of survivors don’t want to press a single button all game. They’d rather extend their chases and let their teammates do gens. The chase is the best part of playing survivor so of course chase perks are meta, not many people enjoy being gen jockeys.

Chase perks are "fun" perks. Survivors don´t feel "forced" to equip anti tunnel perks like OtR or DS.

Meanwhile, killers can´t equip "fun" perks, because they feel "forced" to equip slowdown perks in order to have slightly longer matches. Means gens are still an issue, while tunneling isn´t that much of an issue anymore. Or the builds would look different.

At least thats what i read out of the meta selection.

If OtR, DS and BT were meta, then i´d agree about tunneling still being an issue. But since they´re not.

Also, i think that DS should go back to 5 seconds and inbuild BT should be a different status effect (not endurance). So Endurance perks are more viable and slightly stackable. Not that 5 hit abomination we had on the PTB. But at least some sort of stack.

  • @JustAnotherNewbie said:

Where do you find those survivors? I play survivor 99% of the time and even when I'm on death hook unhooking someone and they should be bodyblocking for me they almost never do.

I can only imagine them body blocking if they're new and don't know any better, or if they're playing extremely altruistically in a SWF.

    On EU servers?

I mean, sure. Not everyone plays like this. I´ve also seen teammates drop a pallet in my face after i tanked a hit for them.

And by needing bloodlust you mean tier 1, not 2 and 3. Right?

Does it matter which tier? As bloodlust was already nerfed and yesterday i´ve seen a streamer complain about bloodlust, while he ran the killer around for same log for... well to long.

While this is true you also have to remember that this works vice versa. This game is a repeating circle. The reason survivors do gens so fast is because they’re scared of the early kill before 3 gens are completed. If the games a 3v1 before 2 gens, you lose 90% of the time.

Yeah, but one side is clearly more afraid of this, than the other. One side is spending all perk slots on slowing the match down, while the other isn´t.

One side is more desperate and the meta shows.

Hard to learn Killer + unforgiving players = turn off for newer players

It’s why Nurses are either very good or bad. Moderate skill floor and high skill ceiling. Lots of people get turned off of playing Nurse because she’s easy to bully when learning. Singularity is a punishing killer to play if you use his power wrong/can’t use it well due to technicalities.

Killers like Wesker are much more forgiving AND easier to pick up. One virulent bound hit gives an injury, slowdown and disorientation, and it’s not too difficult to hit on average.

Yes and this is the one thing that i find disappointing about the SBMMR.

Because the devs promised, that someone who has thousands of hours, but never played Nurse, could get a fair matchmaking, where learning Nurse is possible.

Which is a real shame. As attempting to learn a new killer can be extremely frustrating on itself. Without the "you have 2k hours in the game and you play like trash, ggez"

During the event i´ve bought singularity and played like 2 matches. Knowing, that i might need 40 or 50 matches before the mmr puts me against players that won´t stomp me. Where i´m allowed to make mistakes and learn/adapt to the new killer. But it isn´t really encouraging me to play.

  • Actually, i think Endurance should stay as it is. BUT the inbuild BT should be a different status. Might as well be one without collision. That way, OTR keeps its value against tunneling killers, but non tunneling killers don´t get punished by body blockers.

Chasing the unhooker? Then you have unhooked being healed, 3rd survivor healing, only the 4th one doing Gen.

Thx to inbuild BT, the unhooked survivor usually stands in the way and tries to body block. Now you either waste a hit and get slowed down or you wait it out and get called a tunneler.

  • Maybe because our community isn´t kind to players learning new killers?

If you play bad with a killer you are not familiar with, you usually get toxic comments. Also, the MMR doesn´t really reset for new killers if you have X amount of time under your belt.

Which isn´t exactly incentivizing people to learn new killers.

  • Bloodlust was turned off for a weekend as a test, to see if killers still need it.

    Turns out, yes.

in Hot take Comment by Tsulan
  • In most matches, 2-3 gens go, before the killer gets the first hook. Game is lost when all 4 survivors are still alive at 1 gen. Which puts the killer in the position where he has to get 1 survivor out before that happens.

    The meta speaks for itself.

Killer meta: slowdown, slowdown, slowdown aaaaand slowdown.

Survivor meta: barely anti tunnel perks. Mainly perks that prolong the chase or help with gens.

  • Apparently the game isn´t as toxic as we believe. I saw a Twitter post last week, where the most toxic game communitys got listed. DbD wasn´t even on the list. Animal Crossing was on the list.

Regarding the private profiles. Its kinda a double edged sword. Yes, it totally protect content creators and is necessary. But it also protects people that play toxic on purpose without any repercussion. It got so bad, that i started dodging lobbies, when i see only the name of the char.

I am not saying these perks need nerfs. I am just saying we need more variety, maybe some good new perks or some good buffs for old perks. Survivors have more variefty atm while killers stucked in these perks.

Well all the "good" perks have been nerfed into oblivion. Whats left is what killers use.

For example: Undying Ruin was the healtiest slowdown combo this game ever had. Yet it was hated and ended up getting nerfed so hard, that Undying is only getting used to protect Devour Hope. And you only see Ruin, when someone forgot to change their build from 2017.

Some changes of the past should definetly be rolled back.

Yeah, but there is not much you can do about that.

If survivor doesn't want to play, they won't play. You can't force them.

Its not about forcing anyone to play. Its about stopping people from ruining the game for everyone else.

Maybe have something like a system that detects suspiciously high amounts of suicides and matches survivors with other survivors that play the same way.

Saying that your survivor games are easier since 2016 is outright false (unless you went from soloQ to SWF).

Back in 2017 the maps enabled a Claudette to duck and hide in the grass right in front of the killer and lose them. No bloodlust, no window hits, no nerfed self care, No exhaustion (SB had a 40 second CD I think). Either you didn't play back then or you have a bad memory, lol.

Most would argue 6.1 put Killer in a best state it has even been. I typically shoot for 8 hooks and no deaths in my games. It is not odd for me to accidentally kill 1 or 2 survivors. Accidentally....not even trying but it happens.

Lets see, back then we also had:

    • insta moris (no hook required)
    • machinegun build (mad grit without carrying someone)
    • no status indication of what affected you (you wouldn´t know if you were exposed until you got hit)
    • p2p servers (lag switching killers)
    • huntress with 3 insta down hatchets
    • omniblink nurse
    • iron grip+agitation allowed to carry a survivor over the whole map
    • ruin actually required to hit skill checks
    • NOED was originally totemless
    • dribbling survivors to a hook (prevented DS)
    • hatch required 2 gens to be completed to even be able to spawn
    • items could be consumed
    • face camping made it impossible to unhook a survivor (no unhook prompt)
    • no basekit BT (or the nice HUD we have now)
    • BT was only usable once (protected also the rescuer, but could easily be wasted, since it was triggered on terror radius)
    • WGLF didnt require save unhooks in order to give stacks and gave 200% bp bonus (your teammates just farmed you, like a lot)

So yeah, i think survivor is easier now.

She is nowhere as bad after her changes and perk nerfs.

Some people are stuck in their mindset, but you can't fix that. So there is no reason to deal with it.

They will DC, so what? That's why we get bots.

Its the hook suicides that worry me.

Bots are totally ok. But the suicide ruins it for everyone else.

Sadly, there isnt much that can be done about smurf accounts. It honestly ruins the game for new players and even might drive them away.

That's not true, at least not after their changes.

Both can use their powers quite well on loops.

Merchants effectiveness drops a lot while survivor is injured. I overall consider her very similar to Legion. Power to slowdown the game and get information, easy to injure survivors, low lethality...

Larry has weird playstyle, 3-gen is not it. You give survivors time to farm EMPs, that's not good strategy. Larry is more like hit&run killer.

But thats how those killers are perceived. I still see survivors dc against the Knight and endgame chat is like "snooze killer".

Even if Skull Merchant gets a full overhaul, there will still be people, that refuse to play against her. That first impression usually sticks for a very long time.

  • I remember a match, where i 2 hooked a survivor and every time i found him again, i just downed him and dropped him in the basement. Because i thought, that during the event, everyone should have fun and no kills needed.

Endgame chat: gg ez noob killer

Some people just don´t appreciate, when the killer plays nice.

  • Yes, the window and pallet hits are very generous these days. On top of that i often see teammates with red ping bars. So i think the servers are struggling.

We already have several killers to hold 3-gen.

I was holding 3-gen two years ago with Legion.

It's not a new thing. Players just get allergic to 3-gen during CoB era, which made it super easy to do.

Oh yeah. Only difference is, that the last 3 killers powers all revolve around 3 gens. I mean, those powers are pretty much useless, unless used in a 3 gen.

The killer's objective being to kill survivors doesn't excuse the methods they use to get to that point. You can argue both sides having their own interests which equal out, but killer has a far bigger influence on the match in that regard.

With that baseline in place, with both killer/survivor goals set, we can now say that the killer, with the character they decide to choose, the perks they decide to bring, and the strategy they have in place, decides how fast those gens go. Because in order to get more kills, you have to stop gens as much as possible right? That shouldn't be the case. I've never seen a multiplayer game of any sort allow one side to completely deny any progression in pacing.

Payload as a gamemode is popular in any game medium because there's a fail state for both sides. Took to long? They defended good and we can move on. Took the payload to the end of the map? Congrats on pushing through their defenses, let's end early.

Skull merchant is by far the best example of this and shouldn't have ever existed. Simply picking her changes how the game is played because her ideal game state is dropping drones at a three gen. No one is gonna keep flip flopping drones at strategic loops or areas with her because there's no reason to.

What do survivors have? Prove Thyself, which is getting nerfed, and a couple others. They never affect the speed of the game as much as the killer does.

Why is that the case? Why is stretching a game long-term a good thing? In what world, does limiting a game time harm the overall experience? And don't think I don't understand your position here, it's just that I see no world where ending the game early is a bad thing.

Ohh you are arguing because of Skull Merchant.

Well, the devs clearly know what they want. They want to get rid of 3 gens, while also giving us killers that promote 3 genning (Knight, Skull Merchant and now Singularity).

    1. Well, I was mostly playing in the purple ranks, as I was playing in a more casual way. Most killers I faced back then were players with a similar amount of time put into the game, therefore games felt more like a tug-of-war instead of a complete steamroll like they do nowadays. It's either 100/0 or 0/100, and not 50/50 it feels like.
    2. yeah, I do agree that DS was used in nefarious ways, especially by bully squads (I did face a couple of them back then), but had they reworked the perk in a better way (deactivates on conspicous actions, and permanent deactivation in the end-game, but kept its 5-second stun and allowed to be used on two hook stages), it would have made a pretty good anti-tunnel perk today. Somehow, I do miss the old Ruin with red skillchecks, as it did "slow the game down, just a lil' bit" - famous quote by Monto. It did prompt survivors to look for the totem, and it bought the killer some much needed time, unless the survivors were really good at hitting great skillchecks.
    3. Stealth killers does need to make a comeback. It is a lot more fun facing a Scratched Mirror Myers than it is to face most meta killers these days. Playing them is also way more fun, especially on indoor maps with tight corridors like Midwich and RPD.
    4. Might just be my bad luck of spawning alone, or getting tunneled quite a bit. With the abundance of killers running Lethal Pursuer, they often track down the player who is by themselves at the start, or it could be my bad luck with the killer I am facing (seen a lot of plagues lately), which doesn't allow for high-point games. Last night was a lot better though, as I managed to escape a few times, often ending up with 35-40k points.
    5. Indeed. We do need more meta shake-ups, so that we get more diversity again. The problem is that once a meta is established, the game gets stale fast.
    6. Random perks needs to be its own game mode (maybe with an incentive to try it out, like 2x BP)
    7. I agree, the perks just blew me away with how silly and fun they looked. They really should introduce more crazy and silly ideas into the game, just for the fun of it. We need more meme-perks in general
    1. ah ok, It just reminded me, how back then. A lot of players would derank on purpose to 20. In the hope to get new players during a free weekend. I glad thats gone for good. While the sbmmr isn´t perfect, it at least prevents this.
    2. Absolutely. DS has been nerfed several times to 3 seconds, only to be buffed again to 5 seconds. I´m really surprised how this time, it stays at 3. When thats simply not enough time. 5 seconds would be better, healtier. Old Ruin gave survivors a reason to search for the totem or get better at skill checks. Either way, it slowed the match down in a good way. It also teached how to become better at skill checks. Current Ruin is so weak, that no one bothers searching for it.
    3. I love scratched mirror Myers on RPD! Both playing and facing. Its one of the few occasions, where the game actually feels like a horror game.
    4. Sometimes you can get unlucky and other matches you end up with 200k bloodpoints and don´t even know why. Saturday i had a match, where someone dc against Nurse on Garden of Joy at 5 gens. Nurse proceeded to slug everyone because he just wanted the match to end.
    5. Maybe 1 meta shake up every 3 months? Since it took the community like 2 months of fresh builds before a meta formed.
    6. For different game modes, i would love to have a Casual mode (more forgiving for both sides. With more gens and hook stages) and a Hardcore mode, where everything (perks, aura reading, heart beat, scratch marks, hud) is turned off.
    7. Yes. Just like killers have addons that give 100% bonus bloodpoints in exchange for turning their power off, there should be perks that allow for that. For example a perk that turns the heartbeat off, but you get more points. Or one that gives a random status effect (from a list of 5 positive and negative). Just for laughs.

But offerings affects all players? So just because you did not bring perk, why we are not getting value from offering?

If offering is also gives you chance to unhook yourself, then i have no problem with your suggestion.

Thats a bit borderline. If those survivors are in a SWF. Then sure. No problem.

Solos however, the chance is really low, that they want to make use of the offering of someone else.

    I'll bite.

Explain in any way, shape, or form, a survivor, whose objective is to COMPLETE generators, is responsible for delaying the game to an absolutely unbearable amount of time outside of it being a hacker. I'll wait here and actually listen to your response. Maybe you can convince me I don't know. But maybe, just maybe, you actually have a valid reasoning to this I'm not seeing.

Both sides are responsible, because neither side wants to give up. Just like the killer could stop checking the 3 gens after a certain time, the survivors could stop running away, in an attempt to lure the killer away from the 3 gen.

Escaping is the survivors objective, just as killing is the killers objective. When no one wants to give in, then both sides are equally at fault.

If one side wants to play the long, boring game with me, then i just give in and let the other side finish their objective, so i can move on to the next match. Especially during an event. In the time i´d waste in that match, i could make 200k+ bloodpoints in different matches.

  • Thats why i said:  So just remove the ability to unhook yourself unless you have a perk equipped for that specific action.

If you go into the match with a certain build, that is specifically for unhooking yourself. No problem. Unhook yourself as much as you want.

Most people don´t have that build though and just try to unhook themselves because they don´t like something and want to avoid the dc penalty. In other words, they are prepared to ruin the game for everyone else, out of selfishness. That needs to stop.
