  • Again, flashlight macros have ZERO actual gameplay utility, serve no purpose other than harassment, and are potentially harmful. There's no nuance here like there is with other "toxic" behaviors, no reason to not simply remove the ability to use them.

It's not a hard problem to fix, and it needs to be fixed.

  • I am not so concerned about buying characters, I expect to pay for those in most games. That's fine.

My main issue with the grind is that for new players to have the meta perks available to them, they are going to have to invest a lot of time in addition to any cost of characters. It's just brutal, and exacerbated by the fact that the bloodweb is just loaded with useless trash you have to spend millions of BP on to access the good stuff. The grind is insane.

Remove perk tiers, clean up the bloodweb, increase BP payouts.

Oh, and make prestiging even remotely worth it, plz. That could be a fun feature, but as it is, it's nothing but a box for completionists to tick off a list, but doesn't offer anything inspiring.

The idea that people get worse as the game progresses is not true. That just shows that some people can’t/won’t learn how to play. Once the Nurse knows you double back, you then fake the double back and continue running forward/breaking LOS. Her second blink doesn’t have enough distance to correct a wrong guess on a fake back. She has to commit ahead of time.

I didn't say people got worse, just more predictable. Those things can be, and at high level, mutually exclusive. There are good, sound tactics in this game, and you learn them as you play, and employ them more as you get better. We all know what they are, and probably witched videos on them in our early days. They're predictably employed, but because there are usually more than two options for any player in a given situation, it just becomes a game of stringing together accurate predictions.

    So a numbers game.

The only times I see things that are totally surprising is when I get matched up against total babies, because they haven't been conditioned by the game yet. And even though they are unpredictable, the always lose.

But nurse can't adjust in ways other killers can, which certainly does affect how she performs.

coin flip will be considered fair because it means both side has equal chance.

The thing is, other killers have too much option on survivor's side, despite how they meant to catch up them.

But a coin flip is better odds than with most killers, because with most killers, walls, windows, and pallets all provide options for the surv. Those things are largely irrelevant to the Nurse. She just has to get close to you.

Boil it down to this: you are on one side of a safe loop, and the Nurse is on the other, do you feel the same way about your chances that you would if it were the Trapper? Or anyone else, really?

Is it an accident she is played at such a high rate at top tier/comp?

  • I am usually unbothered by flashlights, but I have been blinded from what should have been impossible angles before, which is annoying.

They are just so inconsistent in their efficacy, I almost never use them.

You know, survivors can also predict killer, and which will results win for them.

If people gets more predictable the more they get better, the chances are killer has no chance at all.

Well, yeah, obviously it goes both ways. But there's never only one possible outcome, so either side will always have a chance. The Nurse just limits your options as a surv more than the other killers do.

Again, Nurse can adjust in ways other killers can't; get near the surv with the first blink, you've got more. Anyone who has faced good nurses knows the feeling of having few options at loops. It almost becomes a coin flip in many cases.

  • @woundcowboy said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2945190#Comment_2945190

You are objectively wrong. Nurse can’t know for sure the survivor is going to double back. She has to hold the blink charge ahead of time to counter them continuing forward. It’s a guess

An educated guess. Like in so many other aspects of the game (and life), people are fairly predicable in chase. Funnily enough, the better you get at the game, the more predictable you become. Even those who think they aren't, are. You play enough, and you have a pretty good idea of how people are going to respond in most situations. Which is really what the "skill" in DBD amounts to; predicting the actions of your opponent based on experience.

This is why I actually find looping in chase to be really boring, it's just a numbers game; you know with some certainty that your opponent is going to do one of only a few things, and when you guess right, you get the down. But it very, very rarely results in something surprising.

Nurse just so happens to be the best equipped killer in the game for punishing predictable behavior, as she is unconstrained by loops they way other killers are. Once you have good command of her technical aspects, and a ton of time playing the game, you have a recipe for generally oppressing surv teams.

And the old double back as counterplay really loses its effectiveness as you progress.

  • Having about 1K hours in each side, I agree that overwhelming majority of toxicity/BM comes from the survivors. I think this is for a number of reasons: there are more ways to express BM as a surv, as a surv you are one of four and it is always easier to be part of a toxic group than an toxic individual, and survivor is the power role. Also, as a surv even if you're BMing instead of working on objectives, you still have teammates who are working, so you have more freedom to be a pest.

As killer, any wasted time is essentially throwing. And survs also know that BMing can sometimes induce the killer into wasting their time, so in that role BMing is often rewarded.

Obviously killers can be and sometimes are toxic, but most of the time the behaviors considered to be BM are also legitimate aspects of gameplay (tunneling, hook defense), and those that aren't are actively harmful to your own cause as killer.

Do I think it can be fixed? No. People are going to be who they are, for better or worse.

And really, the in game stuff doesn't bother me much anymore, I'd be happy if people simply weren't subjected to garbage in the post game.

  • No, Legion is limited by the nature of their power. They need the survs to be grouped for it to really work, and good survs don't group.

Legion is improved, but will always be some flavor of bad, so long as their power is what it is.

  • @Piruluk said:

DS is too weak to prevent tunneling, you will live few more seconds, and cant repair gens etc.

Killer mains destroyed the perk, overnerfed

It never really worked for its intended purpose, and the nerfs were necessary.

DS is pretty much always assumed to be in play anyway, so you can also always assume that if you get to use it, the killer doesn't care, or is just trying to get it off of you early as opposed to getting hit with it late.

The cold truth is that a killer who is determined to tunnel you out is going to tunnel you out, and there's nothing that will stop them. You'd break the game trying to create preventative measures strong enough.

If you want to stop tunneling, you have to use the carrot instead of the stick. What does that look like? I don't know, but I do know that punitive perks aren't an effective deterrent, and never have been.

  • Some people just have a chip on their shoulder, and carry it from game to game. There's a lot of BS to deal with out there, particularly as killer, but I really try to compartmentalize my annoyance with people to a case by case system.

  • @Hex_Ignored said:

maybe they weren't selling well enough and this is a "reminder" that they exist?

In retail, the usual tactic for dealing with poorly selling stock is to advertise, but most importantly, reduce the price.

  • People just get annoyed when the other side actually tries to win.

Don't get me wrong, there are some maps I hate (huge maps are miserable for like 80% of the killer roster), but aside from RPD/Boil Over and old Haddonfield/Balanced Landing, none of them feel like dirty plays.

  • Without the hatch, if you're the last survivor alive and there are any gens left, you're essentially screwed. And if you have gens left and no hatch to close, what triggers the EGC? Like others have said, the end game would often turn into and endless slog if the hatch wasn't in play.

As the killer, a hatch escape doesn't bother me, as it's not being outplayed, really. And it's better than spending forever searching for an immersed surv.

  • It never ceases to amuse me how people tell the killer they suck after they lose to them. If your whole team is dead, the killer played better than you did, full stop.

If the killer played poorly and your team was still 4K'd, I might just quietly slink away rather than draw attention to the fact I and my team pooped the bed.

    Just saying.

Before MMR it was possible to swap killers in the lobby. They locked it while doing their background data stuff, so it has been this way for quite a while now.

The fact that surv can still last second swap around is beyond me.

If you're talking about last second item swapping with survs, I'm with you. But the survs themselves are essentially identical (functionally), so there isn't the same issue there as with killers.

How often do you play against these bots?

And did the gameplay experience remain as it was before Ringu update?

How do you play against them? You die, that's how.

I've only faced a couple, but that was more than enough, to say the least.

"Survivors still dont know how to split up" says kid with a squeaky voice.

You obviously only play SWF but a lot of of us play solo.

Solo is in a worse state then killer right now.

Solo isn't great, but it's decidedly worse the lower rank you are. I am not top rank by any stretch, but most of the players I get matched with have enough game sense to split up (or at least try to) when it's apparent it's the Legion.

Honestly, games against the new Legion are harder but still fairly easy, it's just that there are so many people playing them now, and they're just stronger enough to get some extra hits without winning.

This of course leads to some of the most tedious wins ever. So. Much. Mending.

  • Also, sometimes a surv gets tunneled because they are the worst player on their team and their butt is constantly hanging out there.

Sometimes their teammates will unhook them and then lead the killer in the same direction, and both end up getting downed.

As a killer, I will very rarely intentionally tunnel, but if a surv is just constantly wandering into the action or otherwise keeping themselves right in my face, I am not going to keep ignoring them just because.

There is no such thing as survivors tunneling gens. The phrase only exists to oppose survivors complaining about tunneling.

Is it tunneling if you accidentally find the same survivor before hooking anyone else? Not really. Is it tunneling if you wait out the BT to down the freshly unhooked survivor? Absolutely!

Are two survivors working on the same gen without Prove Thyself genrushing you? No. Is it genrushing if they have Prove Thyself and Commodius Toolboxes? Definitely.

Unless the BT protected surv is intentionally bodyblocking, in which case they have it coming.

I don't think it's sensitivity per se, I just think much of the recent generation of gamers (*old man shaking fist at cloud*) just feel entitled to success, and need to assign blame when it doesn't work out in their favor.

It's why the Soulsborne games are so decisive; some people just cannot reconcile with the idea that games (or opponents in a game) owe you nothing, and that you are primarily responsible for your own gaming failures.

I'm sorry, but if someone puts "TTV" in their name, they're making it easier for people to stream snipe them. I don't know how much of an advantage being able to see a single survivor's screen with a 30 second delay or something actually is, but, c'mon. If you want your teammates to know you're streaming, just say "I'm streaming lol" in the pregame chat.

There's also people who will put TTV in their name and then accuse anyone who wins against them of stream sniping. They're probably not even streaming half the time. Thankfully I haven't encountered this myself but I hear it's common and has been for a long time.

Absolutely. "I was stream sniped!" is a pre-loaded excuse for a lot of streamers. I've seen many times where a surv stream was certain they were sniped and absolutely indignant about it, but never for a second considered the killer's powers, perks, blood trails, etc.

Frankly, a lot of the time the stream sniping excuse is a cover for the fact that there's a lot they don't know about the game, and of course some of those times they legit don't know why they were found/hit, even when there is a clear explanation.

And of course a lot of that just ties into the natural tendency to want to deflect responsibility, which we all suffer from.

But right or wrong, if you put the .ttv in your name, baggage is gonna come with it, and streamers have to make their peace with that.

Tofu did the same thing with those add ons. Focusing on slugging and teleporting and had two condemned kills in his first match with 4 generators left, and in his second match the survivors literally just gave up.

Sadako has issues, and I love Tofu, but his Sadako opinions are among the worst out there. He wrote her off immediately. There are a number of other streamers out there who use her to great effect.

She is terrible at looping, which can (and hopefully will) be fixed, but many of the old player set for whom looping is absolutely central to their fun are just going to hate her.

I also have some hope that recent changes (hemorrhage buff and CoH mini nerf) are signaling an effort to revive the hit and run playstyle, which would benefit her immensely. A few tweaks and she could be really strong, if those changes come, I will certainly add her to my regular 3-4 killer rotation.

Those who say she's the worst killer are nuts. Even in her current state, I still have 6-8 killers below her.

  • Funnily enough, BT is one of the only things that will trigger me into tunneling. Specifically BT bodyblocking. If an unhooked survivor with BT insists on keeping themselves between me and the unhooker, they've just bought themselves an express ticket out of the game (if I can do it without throwing).

And this is in large part due do how much it irritates me as a surv; when I risk my butt to unhook you and you just stick around the killer (and often end up going back down), it's really aggravating. Run, gtfoh, ffs.

  • @Viskod said:

Can you please tell me which for Killer perks if run in tandem are the powerhouse equivalent of four survivors running Dead Hard, Borrowed Time, Decisive Strike, and Unbreakable?

There aren't any, of course. It's no accident those perks are the most commonly run in the game.

There are powerful killer perks of course, but there is at least a decision making process when determining which perks are going to be the best ones to run in a given situation.

With surv, I know that the best build would always include DH, BT, and DS. I never run DH and DS, and I know that usually puts me at a disadvantage relative to my own teammates.

One of the biggest issues with DBD is that while there are tons and tons of perks, there are really only 20ish that are good enough to run consistently (if you really want to "win"), and maybe 10 or less if you're playing surv. And that's a game design issue.

I mean if you think the Survivor meta perks are 'busted'

Then yeah, it is the case for the rest of em

DH and CoH (yes, still) are certified busted. Can't really think of others. Even NOED, as obnoxious as it is, is a risk to run. Unless the killer never manages to land a hit, DH is gonna bail someone out of their own misplay at least once every single game.

Only when the team uses all the same cosmetics, but if your team all looks exactly the same, you've surrendered any right to complain about tunneling. I've tunneled people straight out of the game without any intent before.

On the other hand that is nice, I feel no obligation to differentiate, so it's see surv, down surv, hook surv. Nice and simple.

Gen Rushing is not a thing. It will only happen if you camp, otherwise you could pressure gens and get survivors off of them. Maybe you are just not as good as you 🤔

This is true in most circumstances, but if you're a low mobility killer and the team all bring Prove Thyself, toolboxes, spools, BNPs, etc. and 3 gens pop before you're even halfway through your first sweep of the map, it can sure feel like it.

Gen speeds are quick, and killer's slowdown basekit isn't as string as it should be. But the counterplay is slowdown perks, which are the only answer for much of the killer roster, so don't be salty when you see those stacked.

Many like to say that they are forced to run BT, DH, DS, but in the same vein the meta forces many killers to stack slowdown.

The reality is that if you're a killer, and "winning" (what that means is subjective, which is another issue) is important to you, tunneling and turning the game into a 3v1 as early as possible is just the smart and obvious play. Camping is a more complicated, but the discussion around tunneling is much more straightforward.

One of DBD's biggest problems is that the meta effectively narrows your options down on both sides, and that efficient play on either side is regarded as toxic, "unfun", or "boring" by the other.

And how can u tell? This sbmmr is so bad im “iridescent i” and I get soloqd with neas with 8 hours on their belt. How can u say its not a guaranteed loss if the matchmaking seems random

Other than the eye test (which is really limiting because you only see other solo teammates briefly), there is no way to reliably gauge the skill of other players. Being iri 1 doesn't mean nothing, but damn near. Grade is an indicator of time played, and time played is often a corollary of skill, but some of the worst players I've gone again in recent months have been iri 1. I have absolutely steamrolled teams of all iri 1's and 2's (who played like babies), but been rinsed by teams all in bronze/silver.

Any potato with enough free time can hit iri 1. A good player can get there quickly, but there's no way of knowing one from the other.

Which is why BHVR chose to hide grade; people were getting worked up about the grade of their matched teammates when it really isn't indicative of much. That was probably for the best.

I mean it's kind of stupid to even have a grade system that is independent of actual matchmaking criteria, but that's another discussion. I'm sure with time and effort BHVR could create a system that used measurable criteria to gauge skill, but have chosen not to.

I play solo all the time. I see protection hits and coordination even among solo players. Maybe its a sbmmr thing, that you only see survivors scared to unhook someone.

Yeah, I think that most of the time, once you get to a certain level the majority of the players you get matched with will have enough game sense to know how and when to coordinate. Obviously not always because potatoes seemingly find their way in with some frequency, but more often than not.

It'll never be as tight as a comms SWF, but most of the time my solo teammates seem to have a decent idea of what the play should be, and how to pull it off.

One of the first questions I always have in these camping debates is how are we defining camping? Most of the time it's pretty loose, or the complainant expects the killer to leave the hook when other other survs are clearly around, circling for the save. What it really boils down to is this: did the team give the killer a compelling reason to leave the hook? If that answer is no, then the "camping" is a direct result of poor survivor play.

And I don't camp as a practice, but in the end game I will try to secure kills any way I can (especially if a surv is hooked near a gate), and fending off a coordinated save by good survs with anyone outside of Bubba can be one of the harder things to do as a killer.

  • Again, rapid-fire or macro flashlights have zero legitimate gameplay utility. If a killer is prone to being tilted, regular clicking will do the job.

It's just an extra, unnecessary layer of obnoxiousness. And there absolutely is a visible difference between standard clicking and macros, not just sound.

Just make it so each activation of the flashlight consumes a set percentage of the battery. A reasonable amount that will only be oppressive to those using using macros, or other methods of clicking multiple times per second.

Or limit the number of presses per second that will register.

  • Myers for sure, but I love Ghostface. Myers is menacing, GF is more for meme-ing around and goofing off to me. Myers needs some updating to befit a killer of his stature, though.

  • I've played a bunch of games on Haddonfield on both sides, and I think it plays fair. It feels open because the dead zones are all consolidated in the middle of the map, while the sides are loaded with loops and hiding spaces, kinda like, you know, an actual neighborhood street. You should feel safer in the houses, and should feel exposed and vulnerable in the road.

Like someone else said, people are too used to having their loopable tiles just linked together. The strong loops and windows are all there, you're just gonna have to have your ass hanging out a bit when you cross from one side to the other.

I love the feel of it, how thematically appropriate it is, and how it plays to stealth. It just feels like an actual, real life environment. It's a massive improvement.

  • Flashlight macros are one of the only things that are considered to be toxic, but have zero utility beyond being toxic to warrant keeping them in the game. It's just being obnoxious for the sake if it.

If you want to tilt the killer, regular clicking will do it.

No reason whatsoever to allow it, especially if there is a potential photosensitivity issue attached to it.

  • If it's a killer I am really good with, I'll play it out.

If not one of the 3-4 killers I feel really confident with, I'll either equip lightborn or I'll dodge.

To be clear, I do know flashlight counterplay, but in the situation OP describes, you now they're going to push it to the point where it just gets tedious.

  • Yeah, you can still beat them consistently, but lots of mending now that everyone is playing them.

    That's the thing.

If people huddle together right from the start, Legion can reap through them.

If people split up (like...they should be doing anyway), Legion is pretty simple and you can loop them almost forever unless you're in a huge deadzone.

Yeah, Legion chews through new players, because they tend to herd together. As you advance more and realize immediately splitting up is almost always the proper play, Legion becomes less and less of a threat. At high level, they're useless. That's why these buffs don't really fix what makes Legion weak.

With these buffs you might get one more hit than you usually would, but good teams will almost always shut Legion down.

  • In the games I have played against Legion the past couple days, the "split up" counterplay has worked as it always has. They seem marginally stronger, and got a few more hits than I expected, but seemed fundamentally the same. But still not particularly good.

Maybe I have just gone up against the wrong ones.

I really hope they don't nerf them.

  • Myers. It's mostly the anticipation; once I know it's him, I am waiting for the jumpscare to come, even if it never does. If the killer player is any good, it will, though.

If I have LGBT friends and family members with which I communicate very good exactly means I am not prejudiced.

You know, homophobia cannot work on some people and don't work on other ones

This is flimsy. You can absolutely have a generally positive relationship with someone and detest parts of them. People do it all the time with family and friends, all it take is a little compartmentalization, and tolerance for some cognitive dissonance. There are members of my own extended family who have aspects that I loathe, though those are more ideological and not things they can't control, like sexuality/gender.

And as far as the OP topic, marginalized people making themselves visible and celebrating themselves has great social utility as it sends the message to others that they are not alone, and it is okay to be who you are. Sometimes it borders on the gratuitous, but that is just rebound from having to hide themselves for, you know, all of recorded history.

If that makes other people uneasy, that is a personal problem for them to grapple with.

People who are uncomfortable with that see it as gratuitous, but probably don't even notice the all the normative propaganda out there, because it seems ordinary and familiar to them.

    San Francisco or London? No.

As you move out of the USA/UK/Aus, it shifts further. DbD is pretty big in Japan and definitely has a fair amount of Chinese players, for instance.

Honestly, the new 'progress' flag feels like a well intentioned mistake to me. If I were a 'progressive', I'd worry that I'm giving people on the far right a ton of ammunition - as it really does appear that not only are you excluding straight Caucasian males, you're only excluding straight Caucasian males.

As per the comic earlier in the thread, the 'clubhouse' has become the size of the planet.

It's imperfect, but I don't really have a problem with it.

I have a lot of other thoughts, but I've already gotten far more socio-political today than I ever intended to on this forum.

  • Spot on about the atmosphere; when I think of Halloween, I often think of this image:

I think the new map captures that vibe. Some people have complained about how dark it is, I love it, even in the houses. The dimly lit homes are very consistent with the movie:

These aren't minority groups anymore though. Unless you're talking exclusively in the USA/UK.

Even if you separate Indian-Asian from SE Asian, Caucasians are still third and not far off fourth.

I was speaking to the US/EU more than globally, yeah. And obviously the term minority is subjective depending on where you are, but my clear impression is that these flags are primarily displayed in regions where they (as individual demographics) are minorities. Is that not accurate?

Phobias are an irrational fear, but homo/trans/xenophobia is largely learned behavior, even if passively absorbed through your surroundings.

It wasnt until I left my Christian bubblethat I realized just how many of my opinions were not truly my own. Took me a while to correct all of that after high school because I trusted authority too much

I think it's a combination. Humans have very rudimentary and evolutionary xenophobic traits (for survival), divisive social constructs build on these, and hateful social programming weaponizes them.

And yeah, deference to authority is a dangerous thing, and to often people focus on other's conformity to their authority, but do not recognize their own.

  • I think it's about solidarity between minority groups, which is a good thing, imo.
