  • Here's a post from a little over a year ago regarding de-ranking:

    @Peanits said:

Intentionally deranking: Yes, it is bannable (WITH A HUGE ASTERISK, READ ON). If your are intentionally dying in your games to lower your rank, you are hurting the other people in the game by ruining their experience and making it tougher on them. Though these days it's much easier to do something and still derank, so you could still do something to help the team and derank in the end if you really want.

Basically, just don't throw the game, that's all. Be considerate of the other people in the lobby who aren't trying to derank. If you're commited to deranking, at least do some generators or something first. Don't just make a beeline to the killer and die as soon as possible because you're making it into a 3v1 and that's not fair to everyone else.

Staying AFK: Not really. Sometimes people go AFK. Sometimes the dog pees on the rug. Sometimes someone comes to the door. Sometimes you forget that you're queuing for a game and walk away from the computer. We'd have to be able to tell that you're intentionally doing it on a regular basis for it to become a problem. It's still preferable that you don't do it just because that does make the game boring for everyone else.

Farming: Farming at someone else's expense is. e.g. If someone is working with the killer to lead them to other survivors, sandbagging, then farming them on the hook for points- that is bannable. When farming crosses into griefing, that's a problem.

Macros (wiggling, etc.): No. We don't ban for that. Though it's a use at your own risk type deal because if EAC picks up on it and automatically bans you for it, we won't be able to help you.

Macros (botting): Yes, that is bannable. Don't do that.

Punish for DC, punish for derank. Why not punish for camper/tunnelers/sluggers/moris?

Because none of those things are against the rules? You don't see me asking to punish for genrushing or looping or teabagging, do you?

Sorry but high rank survs will derank to play with their friends. Also high rank survs won't play with swf when they see a survivor in bad ranks. I loby dodge everytime I see a bad survivor, because I know the killer's rank because of the SWF

Just start punishing those who derank excessively. Easy.

  • I recently DC'd because I was called out of the house and could not wait until the match was finished. I promptly apologized. Also had to close my game today because the whole thing froze up while a game was loading. That's about it.

  • The hunt isn't literally a song. It's speaking figuratively.

  • You're not supposed to be able to break free with any amount of regularity. The main reason wiggling exists is so that the Killer can't just throw you in the basement every time.

  • Personally, I preferred the BBQ way of doing gens and hooks. I'd rather just be able to play the game as normal, more or less.

Yes... because I want to shell out $20 more plus DLC all over to play with my friends that just started...

I'm not looking to take on low ranked people as a high rank. I understand the concept behind this.

My issue is that the bug itself seems to have been seemingly been ignored (interpretation not potentially the actual decision) and rather than fix the issue, we are now forced to deal with the exact opposite extreme of what the bug was issuing before making it seem to be the players-of-the-game's fault and not the bug itself.

I'd say more that the devs decided to fix a big issue with SWF while also dealing with the bug in the process.

  • Each time Freddy hits a survivor, he makes a cheesy quip.

Lol, alright buddy I'll let you keep believing what you want. I ran into plenty of ######### red ranks before this recent patch that got one hooked. By your logic, I should report them because he might be a deranker, and not just bad at the game, or is having a bad game.

Let me consistently false report because that's healthy. Ya'll dreamers out here for real.

Hey, if they're not a de-ranker, one or two reports here and there won't matter. :P

  • Can someone link me this Twitter exchange?

  • @Regionlock said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/712550#Comment_712550

But it's really not punishable unless you make it extremely obvious every-game. Not to mention they hardly ban people for DC right now, what makes you think they will ban people for one hooking or playing like crap?

On average how many killers do you think would care to write a report about a guy who made it easy to get caught? Like cmon, lets nod kid ourselves here.

It ain't the Killer who would be reporting someone for repeatedly first-hooking themselves. :P All it takes is a couple of Survivors reporting their "teammate" for unsportsmanlike conduct or griefing for the devs to take a look, and if they notice a sudden trend of the rank tanking in a short amount of time, they can probably put two and two together.

  • @BloodyNights said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/712515#Comment_712515

Yeah and that's where I don't agree with you. You seem to automatically assume that a red rank survivor auto wins even against a killer who is just a level behind hitting red ranks themselves. Like a red rank survivor can actually bully a rank 5 or 6 the same way they could a rank 20. While also having a rank 8 and rank 12 in the same game that are not as adept as the other two. Balancing the scales you know.

But hey you seem to be the type who really must hate people playing together, until they've all been placed in the git gud status category. Which I think is terribly unhealthy for the game as a whole. And is even worse for trying to convince newer players to try the game out. But you know that killer though, poor him. He had ranks averaged out to match his own rank, oh the unbalanced.

Like I said we are not going to see eye to eye. So I suggest we drop it. You flat out disagree with me, and I flat out disagree with you. And I doubt either of us can change the others mind.

Who says Survivors have to be in the git gud territory to play together? I look forward to being able to play with a friend who I recently learned owns the game, which would be the first time I've played this game with a friend. They haven't played in a while, and I am a potato Survivor, so we'll be well off together.

  • If they wanted it to show auras, the perk would tell you that it reveals their auras.

  • @Regionlock said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/712539#Comment_712539

You do realize that they are not exploiting by one hooking themselves right? You can report them all you want, but it's not an exploit to play the game like your not good, or just want to mess around.

They are, however, ruining the game for their teammates by consistently one-hooking themselves with the express intent of de-ranking, which can easily be a punishable offense.

  • @Regionlock said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/712478#Comment_712478

You do realize those servers ain't coming anytime soon and DC isn't the only way to derank. You can just ensure you get one hooked everygame and be just as efficient with no timer.

I personally don't mind the change but I'm not gonna pretend like it's gonna change much.

Let's punish people who deliberately one-hook repeatedly with the purpose of de-ranking. You think it will be hard for devs to tell who is consistently letting themselves be first-hooked on purpose?

    @Regionlock said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/712494#Comment_712494

Where is this confirmation? Link us

Also, it's ok now because the DC and derankers will hurt survivor now by your logic. It's better to hurt three people than the one killer.

None of the implementations were good. This isn't an E-sport game, and people need to stop pretending it is. We all had to deal with SWF lobbies when we first started playing killer. It is painful to faced SWF, but when you do chase that rank 1 you could learn a lot about how to play killer more efficiently. You'll learn nothing by catching potatoes on your way to red rank.

This doesn't need to be an e-sports game for this change to be good. :P

  • @BloodyNights said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/712500#Comment_712500

So let me get this straight, another red ranker joins the lobby, and the killer is now averaged at about rank 5-6. You think they have no chance against them? And balance is all over the place and is a crap shoot? Rank 5-6 killer can't handle it because suddenly there are 2 red ranks, while the other two are at 8 and 12?

Yet you think the current system that they've implemented, where a red rank survivor will automatically bring in a red rank killer regardless of where the other teammates are at is balanced? Jeez... We are definitely never going to see eye to eye on this.

If a killer is not red ranks, they should not be going up against multiple red ranks without any input.

At least in the latter case, the decision to lopside things against them is entirely in the hands of the Survivors, whereas in other cases, things could be turned against the Killer's favor and the Killer would have no say in the matter.

It would be 12% faster to counter Iron Grasp III, which means you would wiggle free at 90% of the time it would normally take to wiggle without Iron Grasp.

That sounds like it would be fairly impactful in sabo builds.

  • @BloodyNights said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/712453#Comment_712453

As I said that was an extreme case and not the norm. And it's far better than now having 2 red rank survivors, and 2 rank 20's facing off against a red rank killer. How is this balance. It's completely killer sided to the extreme. The 20's are gonna get creamed, and the red ranks aren't going to be able to help carry the burden that is the rank 20's. So this is far less balanced.

But as I said 20's and 1's are not going to be the norm. it's going to be red and purples, perhaps playing with a rank 12 or something, averaging it out there is your balance. Here example, 4, 8, and 12. These are the ranks of the survivors. Match making should look at that, and produce a killer around 6-9 depending on how high ranked the extra survivor is. This is optimal balance.

Not to me. If two players are properly ranked against the Killer, that is closer in balance than zero players being properly ranked. In an ideal world, everyone would be close together, but that is not reality.

If a 4, 8 and 12 band together, what you would end up with is another red ranker taking up the fourth slot and going up against a red rank Killer. That way, two Survivors are properly equipped to handle the Killer, one is kinda under the mark but can still get there, and the last is the one trailing behind. With what you are suggesting, the game becomes a crapshoot because there is no consistency at all between any of the Survivors vs the Killer rather than some consistency at the top end. If you end up with the low end for Killer rank, the higher Survivors can steamroll the Killer. If you end up with the high end, the Killer annihilates the weak link and cripples the Survivor team.

  • @NoShinyPony said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/712459#Comment_712459

That's another problem, you are right.

(I still think my argument is valid as well. Running speed & gen repair speed are more important than other traits like sabotage speed or luck at chests.)

I mean, you're definitely right. Stuff like OP's idea for Meg or Adam would be ridiculous. They'd have to be either more minor abilities or situational/gimmicky things.

  • @NoShinyPony said:

This gets suggested on a regular basis.

Bottom line: Some effects are stronger than others, so people would tend to play only a few survivors, which would lead to less variety in the lobbies.

That to me isn't so much of a problem as long as they are reasonably balanced to each other.

The real problem IMO is that it is impossible to do this now without pissing off people who dedicated all their resources to one Survivor only to find that their Survivor of choice got an ability they don't like.

  • @BloodyNights said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/712352#Comment_712352

To me that is balance, two rank 1's and two rank 20's go up against a rank 10 killer. The rank 10 killer has some experience under their belt, and has a some what decent grasp of the game. They have the potential to catch the rank 1's, or even the potential to completely steam roll if they happen to go after the rank 20's. They could also get steam rolled themselves if they keep going for bad chases against the rank 1's who are looping them. Luckily at rank 10 they should have some concept of knowing when to look for weaker survivors. I think that's balanced, though usually it isn't as extreme as rank 1 survivors paired with rank 20. It's more like red ranks, with a rank 12 or something, which would put the killer in purple rank territory.

Last few weeks didn't give a crap about match making at all, it didn't even base matches off the highest rank, How is it when the highest survivor is rank 13, they give us a rank 20 killer? I should have just taken screenshots of every messed up match making that we had during these last few weeks to show how terrible it was on both sides killer, and survivors.

That to me is not balance; it is just extremely swingy. If the Killer runs into one of the low ranks, they likely steamroll the Survivor and snowball out of control. If they run into one the high ranks, they likely get completely clobbered while the Survivors run away with the game. The outcome of the game almost absolutely depends entirely on who the Killer happens to run into. That's just a hot mess waiting to happen.

Sabo squads can already exist. Boil Over would just compete for a perk slot (Over No Mither, Saboteur, Unbreakable, Tenacity, Flip Flop, and Breakdown).

I think the ability to cut back on the amount of wiggle time would make it a staple of sabo squads unless the numbers were so low that it wouldn't be any better than it currently is.

  • @BloodyNights said:

Man the messed up match making from the last few weeks got everyone messed up. When I SWF'd, me being rank 1, and my friend being rank 4. We got a rank 20, level 1 Dwight who had no perks and didn't know how to run from match making. The match making was just completely messed up SWF or not.

Instead of fixing it so it actually used the average, they just punished players who wanted to play with friends. Imagine you tell this person how fun DBD is, they buy it. Who do you think they want to play with? Their friend, or solo it out and git gud? Most of those players don't stick around to git gud, they want to have fun with their friends.

If they actually fixed using the average, instead of just throwing people where ever, we wouldn't have rank 20 killers facing off against red or even purple ranks. Or now Survivors who are new trying it out with their friends, I know a concept people have trouble with. They are being thrown at red or purple ranks, and getting demolished.

Killers may have had to deal with it worse, even if I'd argue there was bs on the survivor side due to the poor match making as well. Killers are lone wolfs, they are not playing for anyone else but themselves. And like it or not, DBD is a party game, match making should be balanced so everyone regardless of rank can find it enjoyable. Not putting red rank survivors against rank 20 killers, and not placing rank 20 survivors against red rank killers.

If matchmaking pairs super low ranks and super high ranks against a midrank, that isn't balance. That is players from all across the spectrum being paired together. No one Survivor is suited to be fairly matched up against the Killer.

Reading the responses to this has just made me realise that, on average, the people playing Dead by Daylight are incredibly toxic, petty individuals. It makes me kinda regret buying the game in the first place, because everyone acts like... Well, that!

"If you brought this game specifically to have fun with your friends then you deserve to feel bad because winning is the ONLY thing that matters in this super-competitive game. You should play with strangers and have no fun for hours on end so you can git gud and EARN the PRIVILEGE to enjoy yourself in our ELITE GAME" is the overall message/vibe I'm getting here.

Don't worry Devs, you don't need to fix your game. Bugs aren't gonna scare people away as fast as your toxic fanbase...

Do you really think playing with strangers for hours on end is equivalent to having no fun for hours on end?

  • @Yung_Slug said:

There are usually enough hooks to hook a survivor even with this change. This would mainly prevent Killers bringing you to the basement from the other side of the map with Iron Grasp + Agitation. Killers are notified that the survivor has Boil Over, so they'll know not to go too far for a hook.

But then what do you do if you factor in sabotaging? Normally, sabotaging these days is more gimmicky than anything, but with a perk that can actually speed up wiggling in a non-negligible way, that could potentially making sabo squads.

  • Iron Grasp isn't even a good perk, though. Why does not need a counterpart that would likely be much stronger than it in a vaccum?

  • @Johnny_XMan said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/712141#Comment_712141

@TAG Oh yeah, cuz solo queues are much better. You must not play solo survivor.

All I want is balance for both. You want balance for one side. I get it now.

I want balance for both. Two rank 20s and two rank 1s vs a rank 10 is not balance. At least with these changes, it means that the side that is more likely to be negatively impacted by the balance is the one making the conscious decision to skew the rank range something fierce.

I'd rather play against as many Survivors close to my rank as possible. But if someone decided to bring in a bunch of friends significantly separated from me in rank in either direction, I'd want the fourth person to at least be close to my rank.

The killer plays against 2 surv with a low rank a 2 survs with a high rank. This is by far more fair than a good rank killer playing to 4k against them.

If the game is balance with 4 survs vs 1 killer in the same rank, you can't escape with 2 bad survs in your group. I play only 1 game with this kind of mates, and it was the last one. I'm sorry for swf, and I'm sorry for this game

Not really. It just means the skill level is definitely all over the place. As a Killer, I wouldn't want to play against two almost-guaranteed potatoes and two Survivors almost guaranteed to be way better than me. That's not the goal of matchmaking.

  • @Johnny_XMan said:

@TAG No. My friend has to deal with the same issue the lowbie killer had to deal with.

Killers had a choice before as well, doesn't mean the system didn't need changing.

Not if your friend just starts playing against low ranks and works their way up.

What was the choice the killer had?

Andalso ou have to find other 2 survs that want to play with you. I wrote this in other post, someone will be fired in BHVR. This will remove too many people from the game.

Shouldn't be a problem if the SWF ranks are close enough.

@TAG Lol ok, so I got my new friend to play the game, but they just can't play it with me until they reach my level. Gotcha.

    What a brilliant idea.

Your friend can absolutely still play with you immediately if they want. Just maybe advise them to play at their own level first so they can improve and maybe stand a better chance when you decide to throw them into the deep end when they are still at a lower rank.

  • @Johnny_XMan said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/712062#Comment_712062

@TAG So a person who just got the game yesterday who only wanted to play with their friends is going up against someone who has 2k hours, and you don't see it as a problem?

I want balance for both. I don't wanna play against a rank 20 killer just as much as I don't want my new friend to play against a rank 1 killer.

Not if they deliberately choose to do so. Now if they DIDN'T have the choice to not play against an opponent with 2k hours, that would be a problem.

If you don't want your new friend to play against a Rank 1 Killer, don't team up with them as a Rank 1 Survivor.

    @TAG That's not a solution to a broken system.

Deranking being encouraged isn't a solution. Killing yourself on hook will never be a reason to punish people, when they barely do it for people who dc.

Making it equally balanced for both the newbie Killer AND Survivor experience is the solution.

It absolutely is. If the problem is that people deliberately de-rank a bunch, the solution is to punish people who do that. The fact that it fixes a potential workaround to the SWF thing is a bonus.

  • I'd probably rather just use We'll Make It.

  • Well, then we have a solution, don't we?

  • No, but a sharp drop in rank that is far, far faster than what would be considered normal that could only really be done if someone is deliberately screwing over their own team certainly could be.

  • @Johnny_XMan said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/711901#Comment_711901

@TAG Unless they are deranking which is what this encourages.

To each their own, but I don't agree with your claim that this is somehow more balanced than how it was before. So Ima just leave it at that. Good luck.

    Punish excessive de-ranking. Easy.

  • Overall, still remains to be seen, as I didn't pick up the game yesterday.

As far as the specific SWF changes, absolutely.

EDIT: First game with the new matchmaking had me, a green rank, going up against purple ranks and one red rank. So that's not a great first impression. We'll see how it continues.

EDIT 2: Low purple rank facing three red ranks and a yellow rank. >:C

@Bravo0413 Killers already knew they were going up against SWF, so how is that different?

    Just because it's a choice doesn't mean it's a balanced system.

(Going to throw in the same example used before) You have 3 rank 20 survivors 1 rank 4 survivor, game gives you a rank 1 killer....

Why not... You have 3 rank 20 survivors, 1 rank 4 survivor, game gives you a rank 9 killer?

My argument is it should be based on high rank but also make it average if the majority are lower rank.

A Rank 9 Killer going up against a Rank 4 Survivor and 3 Rank 20s sounds no better than a Rank 4 Killer going up against a Rank 4 Survivor and 3 Rank 20s from a balance perspective. At least with this system, a Rank 9 Killer won't have to worry nearly as much about going up against Survivors way higher rank than them.

  • @Johnny_XMan said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/711776#Comment_711776

@Bravo0413 My point is, it should not be about "Who gets bullied more than who"... it should be about balance. Having 3 rank 20s and a rank 4 , and a rank 1 killer isn't balanced IMO.

You are looking at it from the lense of "killers get bullied more than survivors"... when "being bullied" in this game has become a word that just gets thrown around, when it has an actual meaning in the real world.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/711792#Comment_711792

@TAG How exactly is this making them learn from the ground up though? Lol

Most survivors (As stated before) learn from trial/error even when you have a friend telling you about how "horrible Shelter Woods is for survivors..." most people forget things.

What this change does is just flip the thing they were trying to avoid for killers, just now onto newbie survivors.

I mean that they should play at their own ranks and work their way up.

  • @Johnny_XMan said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/709459#Comment_709459

@Peanits I disagree that High Rank survivors should be in charge or protecting/teaching newbie survivors. Both Newbie survivors AND killers are capable of learning at the same pace. When I was learning Survivor most of it I learned from trial/error, not from friends teaching me. When I was learning killer, I learned by the things I learned from playing as a survivor (to think like they do) and from watching others play killer on stream.

If you have the majority as low ranks and 1 as a red rank...and end up with a rank 1 killer. Are you seriously saying that it is not any more unfair than it was previously?

It's sad that it took one "hypothetical" situation (The survivors who want to bully) for this to screw new survivors who just want to play with their friends without bullying. I mean, if you're going based on "possible scenarios" let's add the killers who purposely derank to only face new/inexperienced survivors.

At the very least you could have made the matches average the rank if most are low ranks.

If Survivors want to learn, have them learn by working their way from the ground up. Then they will get closer to your level.

  • @Nazeef13 said:

In this thread: people mixing up high and low rank.

Low rank = experienced; high rank = inexperienced. Please remember that so that we know exactly what you are trying to discuss.

    ---

Before the update, survivor ranks were averaged and a killer with a close enough rank to that average was matched with them. If that doesn't create a fair match for the killer, that can imply two things : 1. Rank is meaningless (e.g. a rank 10 is not twice as skillful as a rank 20), 2. There is discrepancy in regards to actual skill between killer rank value and survivor rank value (e.g. a rank 5 survivor or average group rank of 5 does not fairly match up with a rank 5 killer).

A long term solution would be meaningful rank that correlates across killer and survivor, which they have stated they are working on in the third anniversary stream.

A quick fix for swf and matchmaking now would be to just adjust how you weigh ranks when averaging swf. For example, weigh red ranks 2.5x as heavy, purple 2x as heavy, and green 1.5x as heavy as yellow (adjust weight values based on internal testing of what is considered a fair match). So if you have ranks 3, 3, 14,14 instead of going against the normal average killer rank of rank 10, you'd go against weighted average killer rank of 6.

The reason that many are calling the current patch a punishment, is because we moved from being slightly survivor sided to completely killer sided when there is a wide rank gap, instead of finding a fair middle ground.

Imo the current patch will cause more problems than solve:

    1. Swf Matches will be extremely killer sided when there is a rank gap, compared to slightly survivor sided prepatch. So whatever issues killers had with the prepatch matchmaking will be even more problematic for swf groups. Just shifting the burden to the swf (which is fine, it's not the killers problem), but in the process making the problem worse than before in magnitude (which is not fine).

    2. Friend groups and swf with rank gaps stop playing together to avoid problem 1.

    3. Deranking to avoid problems 1 and 2.

What if this was done so Killers are not forced to face Survivors that are way higher rank than them that are definitely part of a team? Killers already have to accept going up against SWF (which is fine). There is no reason they should also have to accept going up against people whose rank would normally be too high for them to be regularly be paired up with.

As far as the issues you stated, the only one that is an actual problem is #3, which can be mitigated by being more tough on flagrant deranking.

If you're gonna suggest to nerf mori's to be only on last hook, then what's the point of even bothering to make animations for each killer's mori?

The way I see it, if you remove the current Moris and allow the green and yellow bloodpoint offerings to Mori people you have two-hooked, you fix the balance problems of Moris without making Moris their own separate useless offerings.

So they helped newbie killers but screwed newbie survivors?

imagine you have 2 friends at rank 16, a rank 17 random but because you’re Rank 3 , you get a rank 1 killer.

It’s like we have one step forward and 2 backwards.

Only the ones that only want to play if they can play with their high-rank friends. And I guess other Survivors who get paired up with those SWF groups.

I disagree. an offering shouldn't be as game changing as removing 2 hook states from any survivor

This is pretty much my stance. IMO, Cypress is trash, Ivory and Ebony are too much.

    1. It only does that to 1 survivor
    2. And keys and toolboxes are fine?

You were the first person in this thread to mention keys and toolboxes.
