Killer has a lot of Niche perks, but I believe there are only 8 killer perks that are truly bad. For the most part, these are ones that are actively detrimental to you, are reliant on survivors doing certain things, or provide potentially useless bonuses.

Coup De Grace: Can actually make your chases take longer, cause you want to save your tokens for when you need them, making you walk all the way up to the survivor to hit them.

Claustrophobia: I can count the number of times this has helped me on one hand. Extremely map dependent, requires you to lose generators, and a few seconds of running is all it takes to leave it's effective zone.

Forced Penance: Requires survivors to bodyblock for you to get use out of this. Unlike mad grit, does not really prevent bodyblocking from happening. Broken is a status effect with debatable usefulness anyways. If a survivor is not healing, they're going to work on objectives because what the hell else can they do?

Gearhead: First of all, it's reliant on skill checks, which is a famously inconsistent requirement. Secondly, the survivors must be hitting great skill checks specifically. Lastly, you could miss the intel this gives you entirely. Sometimes the aura of gens blocks the aura of the survivor you're trying to see, and it doesn't even give you a noise notification when it procs.

Insidious: As a killer you always want to be on the move. Also, survivors can tell when a terror radius suddenly drops to 0, which alerts them that something's up. Really only good for camping, and at that point you've basically lost anyways if the survivors play well.

Predator: An actively detrimental perk. Can cause you to miss scratch marks that would have appeared on a wall.

Territorial Imperative: Typically if you're hooking someone in the basement you want to stay relatively close to basement anyways, and this requires you to go away from basement. And even if you're playing a killer that can actually capitalize on the information it provides, you're now chasing someone near basement, which pretty much always has a strong structure of some sort near it, whether that's shack or main building.

Unrelenting: Why are you missing basic attacks in the first place fivehead?

Disagree with a couple of these.

Coup de Grace can come really clutch especially against survivors that like to greed. If you are missing out on hits cause you want to preserve tokens it's on you not on the perk.

Usually you want to walk up to survivors anyway cause a lot of them can react to lunges with their dead hard. They might not bother to dead hard if they know your lunge normally wouldn't reach though

Forced penance can be pretty decent as well, it works on bodyblocks outside of carrying too and 80 is a long time to be injured especially against killer you don't hear coming

These 2 aren't good by any stretch but they are not detrimental, they do help out, coup especially is quite underrated imo

Pretty much agree with the rest though

Unnerving pressence also feels detrimental, it helps against newer players but whenever i'm up against it i find it easier to hit the great skillchecks

Survivor also has a load of detrimental perks, technitian and calm spirit both work against you more then they help you

There are probably more that i'm forgetting

  • I'm usually alt tabbed but when i'm not i notice it happens really often.

Not just killers, survivors too. I'm in the process of prestige 3ing all my survivors so i was spending bloodpoints to my base skin prestige 1 dwight and when i found a match the other survivors ranging from 10-22 prestige instantly left.

I honestly feel like it's a very silent but huge problem. It wouldn't surprise me if all mmr mishaps are because of lobby dodgers.

Sometimes i feel like there should be a penalty to it. Nothing mayor, like maybe a 5 minute time out before you can join another lobby max but something to just slightly deter it

Or even better just remove the lobby, go straight from looking for a match to being in a match. I'll happilly give up the ability to see survivors items for having better matchmaking.

  • Having a ton of fun with her without 3 genning.

Bad players will always try to find the easy way to play i guess

  • Depends on your definition of bad, if by bad you mean overshadowed by the couple of good ones then yeah a ton of perks are "bad"

If you look at them in a vaccuum then very few perks are actually bad.

The only really bad perks on the top of my head are predator, Dying Light and Autodictate cause those are the perks that not only don't give you much benifit but are detrimental to you in a lot of cases.

A lot of other perks you can make work to get vallue out of them, just not as much or as easy as the top dogs

I’m not talking about perfection. I’m talking about people who run in a straight line against Nurse, then DC when I down them. These people should have 0 say in game balance.

What does being average in DBD mean? The game mechanics are limited; you either know how to run tiles or you don’t.

That's a very black and white way to look at. There are loads of steps between knowing to run a tile and don't.

There are people who go to shack and instantly throw the pallet while the killer is miles away (bad)

you have people who know to vault the window 3 times and then go to the pallet, but crumble the moment the killer doesn't follow them in a straight line (beginner)

You have people who are aware of the mindgames and will walk in the center or wait around safe corners to look what the killer is doing before commiting to anything (intermediate)

And you have people who are more aware of the entire map and will run to nearby loops after vaulting shack window and chain them to create gamelosing chases for killers (expert)

By your definition the beginner one who knows how to loop a tile is at peak level

Also this is a bit of a assumption based on you mentioning her and your pfp but do you mostly play nurse by any chance?

If that's the case then can you you really blame me if i don't think your oppinion on m1 killers is as solid as you think it is when you play the one and only killer that has absolutely zero m1 gameplay

She plays a completely different game. And I am willing yo believe you are really good at dead by nurselight but maybe you don't know as much as you think you do about dead by daylight the game the rest of the killer cast plays

Sorry but thinking that certain m1 killer have 60% killrates in top 5% mmr because the mayority of top 5% mmr is bad is pure copium

And with all the mindgames you can learn, learning how to zone people to where you want, learning to judge distance to know what you can and can't make, learning what pallets you can leave up and play around and which ones you can't, etc... thinking m1 gameplay has a low skillceiling is equally as silly

It has a much higher skill ceiling then you think, you're just stuck in the basement unable to find the stairs cause you refuse to turn on the light

    totally agree with redsgaminggears

bazazell havent seen yet...any killer he specializes in or survivor builds?

    He mostly plays m1 killers

The interresting thing so far is his builds as he finds neat interactions

For example he used game afoot and stbfl together in a hit and run playstyle to switch the obsession around so he didn't have to ignore a single survivor

Or recently used Zanshin Tacktics on SM to quickly recognise powerfull loops and shut them down early with drones

Also just pretty good at the m1 game in general, it's pretty neat to see lesser perks or quirky combos in action

  • Oo thanks!

    That's really interresting

It is based on 5 years of playing this game. Killers are over 60% kill rate because most of the playerbase is bad.

    5 years and counting too

And that's what i mean with perception of what is decent being skewed. If you view everything below the top players as bad then yeah, i can see why you would think M1 killers are impossible or why matchmaking is is horrible.

But that's not really a realistic way to look at it now is it. Game feels a lot better if you don't downplay every victory you gain cause you think survivors that don't play perfect are bad

  • @martinj97 said:

    @Sonzaishinai

You have 16 seconds before the survivor wiggles out, and the cooldown to hit is like 2.7 seconds.

And if three survivors bodyblock, that's 8.1 seconds, or over half the wiggle out time. And a survivor with DH can bodyblock twice. Poof there goes your 16 seconds. And that's excluding perks like Boil Over and Flip Flop.

If 3 survivors are in front of me when i'm carrying i'm just dropping the survivor and smacking the hell out of them.

Honestly this is a dream scenario, not a single survivor on gens and they are giving me free hits?

This is something you learn to punish severely when you get better at killer, survivors doing this against anyone who knows what they are doing and they are not going to have a good time

  • Was mentioned before but want to put the spotlight on RedsGamingGears again

Superchill dude that will happily explain things. Also someone who doesn't fall easilly to the mob mentality that kinda plagues the dbd community.

Imo one of the better content creators out there

Also small shoutout to Bazazell. Haven't watched a ton but so far he's also a very chill dude that isn't afraid to explain his thought process. Also very creative with his builds

  • Huh? Now that i think about it i haven't seen a wraith in forever.

  • You have 16 seconds before the survivor wiggles out, and the cooldown to hit is like 2.7 seconds.

As long as you go to the nearest hook thr survivor should not wiggle out cause of a single bodyblock.

Good to know that after you hit a survivor they lose collission for a while so they can't bodyblock twice in a row

Also if you think you won't make it when a survivor starts bodyblocking you can press r to drop the survivor you are holding.

Then you can chase the bodyblocker while the other survivor is still on the ground being useless untill somebody else picks them up. Meaning there are now 3 survivors who aren't doing gens.

Bodyblocking is a killer blessing in disguise, more often then not it's free hits/pressure

Again, you are showing a lack of understanding. With Nurse, yes, I agree that she is less reliant on tunneling. But if you’re going to tell me that a killer like pig can catch a decent survivor in a reasonable amount of time, you don’t know what you’re talking about. Maps are too big and there are too many safe pallets. The problem with DBD is that being “good” at chase often just means getting good rng/survivors messing up. The skill ceiling is too low for most killers to show skill.

    Going to disagree with that

People either heavilly overexagurate how hard it is to get a m1 hit or their view on what is a "decent" survivor is very skewed

It's not impossible to get m1 hits, if it was then killers like Onryo or Legion wouldn't be at 60% killrate at high mmr. There are enough content creators that show it's not impossible to win with a m1 killer. You have to be ruthless yes but not impossible

Ofcourse a pig is not going to win against a 20k hours combined comp team but that's not what you get when you get a game, even at high mmr

Again when i talk about tunneling not being needed or even being detrimental to win i do mean the "get a kill by hook 3 kind" you still need to get a kill by atleast hook 5

I know i'm not going to change your mind so i'm not going to try but when you say i have a lack of understanding, i say your view is probably based on the sounds of echo chambers rather then on your own findings

  • It makes sense in a way.

Killers are bassically always in the action. They are always in all chases and everytime you aren't in chase you want to get in chase asap

Survivor has a lot more downtime. You have nothing to do while hanging on a hook and doing gens isn't exactly the most nerve wrecking of tasks

  • @woundcowboy said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3370610#Comment_3370610

I win literally 95% of my matches. If I’m not at top MMR where tunneling supposedly “doesn’t work” then there is something very wrong with MMR.

I did say "if the killer isn't good at chases"

If you're a godchaser or a nurse then yeah you can still pull it off

    @Deathstroke said:

Tunneling is still best strat sure it carries bad players but that just exactly shows how powerful it is. Good killer tunneling will have very good chance winning agains't good survivors.

When i talk about tunneling i do mean the "pick one survivor and nobody else exist untill that one is dead" kind

Getting a player out of the game asap is ofcourse the best strat. I just find that focussing everything on a single survivor can backfire hard.

  • @woundcowboy said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3370541#Comment_3370541

The problem is that this game isn’t balanced enough to have MMR. Every match now is a race to immediately tunnel someone out so that it becomes manageable. Before MMR, I could usually play pretty chill and not have to hard camp/tunnel. The old ranking system was flawed, but it was better than this.

That's the problem a lot of people created for themself

The MMR looks to give you a winrate of about 50%, Racing to tunnel someone out is a cheese strat. It's something that will decimate lower experienced survivors but good survivors will counter it easily if the killer isn't good in chases.

People want to win more and they hear tunneling is super effective, so they do that and crush the survivors they were matched with. Untill they start facing survivors that know how to deal with it and then they are stuck in a MMR zone where their only tactic doesn't work. They don't have the skill to actually beat these survivors so they think that the only way to win is to tunnel.

I don't hardtunnel or camp unless the survivors are begging me to do it and my killer matches are usually chill. Sometimes i lose ofcourse but that's how it's suppose to be

  • I don't know under what rock people who say nobody asked for mmr lived

Everybody asked for a change, the rank system was horrible

And imo atleast, mmr is league's ahead of how it used to be even with the issues with it.

  • Kinda meh i would say.

That said you can make it work. Blood favor is best on multifloor maps and SM also is better on those maps.

If you aren't opposed to use map offering put on STBFL and you can probably get some vallue out of it once in a while.

More often then not it's probably going to get cleansed before that though

  • Funny enough it seems to be slugging

Sure i have seen people complain about slugging on the forums but i have never seen someone complain about it in my games.

And i'm someone who thinks that slugging for pressure is the key to winning with m1 killers and is waay stronger then tunneling.

I pretty much slug all the time whenever i know another survivor is near the one i just downed. Not a single complaint

As long as you don't overdo it and just leave them to bleed out people are surprisingly chill with it

  • Usually myself but i am trying to be a little more realistic too.

There is a big rng element in this game and that can sometimes screw you over.

That's not a bad thing cause it keeps things fresh but there is no need to beat yourself up for something out of your control

  • Rather hoping for some weaker perks to get some love tbh.

I want to expand the number of good perks, not reduce it

Especially perks like Grim Embrace, just double the vallues. If it ends up OP who cares if it takes a while to dial back again. It promotes healthier gameplay anyway

  • Why are so many people surprised that the company that only makes mayor gameplay changes every 3 months haven't made changes since the last update that was less then 2 months ago

  • Yeah it's a shame, i was really looking forward to this perk.

As it stands you're pretty much better off with brutal strenght. The time saved is about the same and it works against everyone

  • @Pulsar said:

I think old Legion was on a whole other level than SM.

Even if you DIDN'T play like that, Old Legion was still really #########

    That's fair

Just hoping people will wait untill the SM isn't commiting to chases before dipping out

  • @Phasmamain said:

Can’t wait to have people DC because they assume I’m gonna do this strat with her

    Yeah i fear that too

Reminds me when everybody was doing the moonwalking thing with Legion and I who didn't plan to do that didn't get to play the game

  • Didn't a Oni win a tournament after eating 4 dead hards lately?

  • What i don't understand is why they don't give auric cells for them?

Even if they come back you would have to pay a second time to use them again.

    Makes no sense

  • Eh, i agree vulnerable would have been a more fitting name but it's not exactly the most pressing of changes that could be made

All it takes is one time getting downed from healthy to get what the meaning is. One hit out of the thousands you're going to get while playing this game isn't exactly a steep learning curve

And it's not like exposed doesn't fit at all

I mean look at the definition of vulnerable

"the quality or state of being exposed to the possibility of being attacked or harmed, either physically or emotionally."

  • @Pulsar said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3366908#Comment_3366908

I think the issue is that you can do all of that WHILE performing the 3-gen strategy.

I don't see a way to encourage that style of play whilst also not making her stronger in a 3-gen

Sadly visa versa i don't really see a way to nerf her 3 genning without handicapping her other playstyles

I think the whole 3 gen needs to be tackled from the base game as a whole and not from individual killers. Or else it's just going to be a recuring problem everytime a killer has a defensive play

Gen spawns so there isn't always a very easy 3 gen setup, gen perks need to go back to the Pop design where you have to earn it. CoB for example should only activate for one gen after hitting a survivor

Trick is going to be making such changes that punish heavy 3 genning without punishing people who take advantage of survivors who put themself in that situation

I wonder what they will do, does not look like there is a easy solution

  • It's kinda fun with TotH as it makes doing totems impossible while active

    That's about it though

  • Having 8 stacks of Stbfl 4 stacks of remember me, 5 stacks of devour hope and 11 stacks of Dying light at the same time

Really old DbD vets will remember, but she's basically OG Freddy. The concept and execution are very similar. And she works if you play her as OG Freddy. I find myself doing a lot of the same things I used to do with him and it works.

Yeah i noticed the resemblance too.

Which is probably one of the reasons i'm enjoying her so much cause i used to main OG Freddy

  • @Pulsar said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3366866#Comment_3366866

How does one "play her normally"?

I thought her 3-gen style WAS her normal gameplay

Talking about stuff like spacing your drones in a way you create a highway of undetectable. Zoning the survivors you chase into other survivors you know the location of so you can harrass multiple people at once. Dipping in and out of her undetectable status to catch people ofguard also can be pretty fun.

She's also really good at slugging for pressure. Being able to keep tabs on a slug while you chase another survivor and know when a third one is coming to pick the slug up is pretty good pressure for a m1 killer. And i know that slugging isn't exactly high on the survivors enjoyment list too but it beats 45 minute games

Sadly all those things require decision making and it's just not as easy as just putting up a 3 gen and wait untill the survivors bore themself to dead

  • Yeah no sorry, I'm having a blast with Skull Merchant.

It's a shame so many people use her for 3 genning when she's really fun to play normally.

  • It's a shame cause i think you could do some nice things with this concept but the insane cooldown and the very strict 12m makes it really hard.

I feel like they try to play it a little to safe with every perk from both roles.

  • I think i would sooner agree to removing exhaustion from the current dead hard then i would reverting it back to the old one

No matter how bad the current one is, the old one was way worse

  • @Xernoton said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3364662#Comment_3364662

Oh, but they did make some changes. Remember Eruption? Remember MYC? Remember Red Forest?

    All of them got worse.

I honestly prefer the new eruption. Fits in my playstyle more. Great change in my eyes.

  • We need more people fighting the good fight for our poster boy like you

  • Either they stay and recover or they move and waste time not recovering.

Nothing disincentivizes a survivor going to pick a slug up more then to see they haven't recovered at all

  • My favorite one is the green hair

  • I don't think there is anybody who wouldn't take that trade

  • People just need to give it time and learn to play her. Too soon to say anything.

Can tell already that people who compare her to knight don't know what they are talking about. Putting your drones at loops to force survivors out is a very poor use of a drone.

3 genning seems obvious but i'm starting to think slugging is where her real power is. Being able to keep tabs on a slug while chasing another survivor and being notified when another survivor is coming to get them seems pretty good so far.

And unless the slug moves the lockon is pretty much guarantied on the resquer.

Still need to play more to try stuff but there is more to this killer then meets the eye i think.

Wouldn't be surprised if this is the next m1 killer the entire community thinks is garbage but still is going to end up in the top half of kill count stats later.

Wonder who the streamer is going to be who gets 200 wins in a row with her first

  • Haven't been able to try it much but knockout might be pretty good on her.

If you have a active drone near a slug you can track them and get alerted when another survivor comes to resque them.

I think she might just in general be pretty good for tactical slugging for that reason

Need to test it out more though but i think it's a better strategy then trying to 3 gen

  • Oneshot killers don't really work. You can deny dead hard exactly once with your power and then they'll just stay injured and will be able to e you're usual very telegraphed power

Legion kinda works but you don't really want to start every chase by frenzying survivors so you can still be hit by it.

Hitting a injured survivor with frenzy just so they can't dead hard isn't really preventing it but letting them have it earlier (they still get hit and have a speedboost)

While it is better since it's on your terms but it isn't always ideal

Also most people also don't want to get better at the m1 game so they don't like Legion

Deadslinger is the one killer that really doesn't give a single damn about dead hard

  • All i want is to have a small delay before you get endurance so that if i'm right behind them and i don't see the animation i can swing and know i'll hit them.

I don't care that dead hard would still work 100% on pallets, that's fine no different then Lithe always working on windows.

i just want to be able to swing when the survivor makes the mistake of letting me be in point blank range. Having to wait all the time can really kill the otherwise high speed tempo this game has

  • Never

It completely screws with the matchmaking. I don't even look at the lobby.

Just alt tab after readying up and i"ll hear when the match starts.

So far no attempt was done to bring killers on the same level as swf squads. It's almost like the devs only play one role.

So you're telling me that the company that makes gameplay updates every 3 months have not made any changes since their last change 1.5 months ago?

    Shocker
