huge huge respect for this post no one could've said it better.
i totally agree with all your points
i legit don't understand what magic effect this killer has on people they'd relentlessly defend it with bad arguments.
i hope bhvr realizes that altho the killer just came out there are causes for concern with its power and unlike singularity in this case it's the killer being a bit too much.
It's alien so people are biased without even thinking about the power. A common occurrence in this game.
People like me who don't care even a little bit about blight aesthetic and only think about the power are not nearly as common as the previously mentioned people.
I know I wasn't thinking hag was cool when watching otz play her was the reason I picked up dbd.
Just because alien can be an m1 killer if taken out of power via flame turrets doesn't mean the killer is fun to go against at all. I know every killer can't be blight/wesker but the devs should probably start leaning in that direction more and more.
-
I'm surprised no one is bashing this post for saying blight but everyone should know that any collision blight suffers with every other collision based killer will suffer far worse.
Except wesker who has only been a detriment to blights collision since release.
-
The biggest detriment to solo q is at least one person not trying tbf.
-
tbf, most killers aren't super interactive, especially for both sides at the same time.

How is it a bad design, it is a consequence of the only functionality old IW provided. IW had no other aspect than make you silent.
If you assume a killer should always be aware of the location of the survivor they are chasing, then yes that would be a correct statement, but where does this requirement even come from, could you elaborate on it?
I don't like the notion where we fabricate statements out of our own preferences then expect everyone to meet that standard, and it is now somehow part of the discussion. Its a 50/50 so what, you dont like it, but that does not make that a valid point others now have to refute. How about you back it up first with something more tangible.
Ok. This particular 50/50 is bad because it reduces skillful interactions at tiles(the most skillful part of the game) and allows for W the least skillful/interactive thing a survivor can do. Running to long wall for example and vaulting, then Wing as the killer attempts any midgame on a strong tile is just dumb. Directional audio isn't even that great through walls in this game, just an indicator the survivor is there. Even now IW is still a good perk that synergizes with the mft build and does it's job good still, it's just not broken to the point of making you infinitely more quite while injured than when healthy.

nah, it is not a bad design when you have 50/50 in the game base kit for strong killers like nurse/blight/spirit. Iron Will was the counter play for many of their tricks.
It's a base 50/50. 50/50 whether the survivor will stay at the tile and another whether they will fall for a mindgame. It's bad design because it rewarded w, w is pinnacle bad dbd game design. It's why blight and wesker are seen as the most interactive killers regardless of their own shortcomings on that front. Blight might have op add-ons but without that few game breaking ones he creates more than just 50/50s, it's not just a guess it favors the better player. 50/50s are just educated guesses on people you have had 2 chases or less previously with. Being able to skew it towards one side or another due to your own skill is rare in dbd and should receive gratitude.

It is when you loose a perk slot and leave scratch marks and pools of blood. You want more tracking, bring beast of prey.
Again, IW created 50/50s the second LoS was broken at good tiles. That's bad design.

since we are just saying random things and pretend it is a valid argument, here is mine:
Audio cues have no valid counter perk and are therefore are not balanced, killers should put more effort into finding survivors instead of just being guided to them right away.
The counter perk is IW. 100% meant it was a 50/50 every single time los was lost at a tile in whether the survivor would W or play the tile. I'd rather old dh come back then this awful perk. But hey. your all for reducing skill and thinking on survivor am I right?

I don't think that the devs are incompetent to give Blight a proper nerf. Proper would mean he's still good to play as, just not OP. Keeping Blight as he is? He's way too strong and unfair. Nerfing Blight too much like Hillbilly? That would make him bad to play as. There is a middle ground. The devs should be able to find it. (hint: nerf the addons and fix the hugtech exploit).
It's been 3 years , I repeat. With all the balance talk BHVR has been giving us, it is completely unacceptable to keep Blight and Nurse as they are.
Base kit blight is the most fair, skillful and interactive killer you can face period. Any hug tech is only beneficial for blight at filler tiles or tiles without collision on 1+ sides. Rush mitigation is another benefit though.
Yes, the add-ons are broken. A killer being able to obtain a potential 400% increase in downing power is absurd(although not consistent with the 400% add-on set).
The middle ground you speak of is gutting several of his add-ons. Not nerfing his base-kit which is easily the most interactive killer in the game, or his hug tech which is only beneficial in niche scenarios, killer sided tiles from an m1 PoV or a rush mitigation standpoint which is the only valid one.
People already love playing vs blight when he is fair, it's just not often you see one not running the op add-ons. Although I do get it, green speed/ alch ring is peak fun in dbd on the killer role, until you realize how unfair it is the face at current dbd.
I will say is that blight has the most varied counter play in the game by far, it's just so knowledge and scenario based it's asking too much from 99% of the player base, although there are the scenarios with no real counterplay vs blight, it's just there's much more counter than most people know of. What people like about nurse is how different playing each tile is, it's the same with blight. Very few blights are actually good and knowledgeable to a high degree, in order to abuse all facets of this killer you much know everything those few know. Again, unreasonable to ask but still an argument. I implode when a survivor plutos me while playing blight as it's so rare to see even though it's so simple. It might always be at shack because that's all the content creators show but it's still impressive for even good survivors. But with immense knowledge of blight as a survivor you can take it a step further and pluto at any piece of collision you deem consistent enough to use.
You don't see insane wiggles/spins/ spins-into-wiggles or vice versa against blight ever, just mediocre ones. But almost every blight will fall for those initially when the survivor is out of options. The movement that means nothing vs m1 killers is finally put to use, survivors who try to perfect movement should be so happy to see the majority of blights. Just watched a hens video as he spectated a wall hacking 9k hour blight and that blight still didn't shoulder flick often, the blights you see in pubs won't do it commonly.
You simply can't put nurse and blight on the same pedestal, as blight has an add-on problem and nurse has a power problem. Only one of those things will likely be fixed by bhvr though.
Take away the busted add-ons that make randoms play the killer, that's fine. Take away speed and/or the hug tech, you reduce both the skill ceiling and the interactivity of a killer far above any other in either regard. f

You only think about people dcing, but you don't keep in mind that they could have problems with their device or wifi that keeps kicking them out, i'm saying this bc after the alien chapter my game crashed so many times my timer reached 24 hours
I feel bad for those people but you can't ruin someone elses experience just because of that.
Any other real pvp game would have you banned completely with several 24 hour bans.

Just to play devil's advocate here, base kit BT lasts 10 seconds. If the killer is back to hook in time to not only hit endurance, but both survivors are still next to each other, then the killer was both close enough to hook and came back immediately.
That's, at minimum, a proxy camp by definition.
The other option is essentially a hook bomb by the unhooker, and again, it's not like the hooked survivor can opt out of that. So if they eat an endurance hit because someone else decided to be a dipshit, that's not the decision of the person with endurance either.
This happens more on blight but heres a situation where it's not a proxy camp that applies to all killers.
Killer hooks person A. Chases and hooks person B then heads back to hook A.
While the survivors probably made a mistake for this to happen, it is a thing.
There's a big difference between you forcing the bt hit and the killer procing it on purpose as well.
-
I play 90% survivor at this point. My only problem with killers is how boring and uninteractive(even if the killer they are playing is bad) most killers are and how most killer players play the exact same with no standout gameplay ever, nothing impressive. Although I guess that was my issue with survivors too when I hardcore played killer. This is the only game I have ever felt bad to let loose(I don't even mean camping or tunneling like some might think) in and it's slowed my killer play down to a halt. I'm probably still a killer main at heart but I just can't try hard in this game anymore.
Game was a lot more fun when I could run alch-ring green speed with ruin/undying/pain res and bbq without remorse. That might also imply I want to run the best stuff and still have a challenge but I feel bad running shadowborne only even. It just comes down to a matchmaking/playbase issue really, along with ingrained community set rules.
Shoutout to the killer mains with 5000 hours hard tunneling with the strongest meta build every game, you enjoy boredom far more than me.
-
Probably remove collision. Only way you can make me tunnel is to take bt hit vs me in the rare instances it can even happen.
-
Because it gives off bot energy.
-
I just want MacMillan to have solid tree collision again.
-
If you think in terms of rarity's blights add-ons maybe accurate but rarities really don't matter.
With that said I would not say c21 and yellow speed are actually op. Strong for sure but not absurd from a standalone standpoint. Kinda weird you would mention those two and not adren which is far far too forgiving even with the increased skill cap of the add-on itself.
I'm also hard on the fence about iri tag, it's also really strong and a hard pub stomper but a good team who knows what the add-on does will almost play against it like a bubba, just go locker and force an m1 as a last resort. It's also the most skillful add-on in the game by far but I am not quite sure what the skill level your tier list is based off of. If it's top 1% blight tag is acceptable, anything else and it's probably b tier. Probably a detriment to half the blight player base atleast.
With that said I would nerf speed add-ons to additive, alch ring to 2x recharge on hit, just revert adren to trash I guess and probably leave c21 alone. Oh and throw c33 into the dumpster, add-on is literally better neme on it's own. Also make the two add-ons meant to help beginner blight learn the killer into non detrimental add-ons, monocle would be a challenge but c33 would be an easier fix.

My theory is, that they nerfed him mainly to promote Bubba (yes, I do wear a tin foil hat) and didn't really know what to do with him after.
A lot of Billy's issues come from the game that has changed around him, while his kit stayed almost the same (besides some nerfs that made him more clunky). I remember the old Coldwinds and while they weren't great from a balance perspective they sure were better than they are now for Billy. But this is something that they can't really fix without going back to more simplistic maps, so I don't blame them for the mess they got themselves into with this killer. Red Forest is another example of this.
I think Blight could use some very slight nerfs to his base kit too. Just enough to allow them to design actually useful addons for him, that don't completely break him. In my opinion his base kit is pretty much the max strength a killer should reach. But I definitely agree, that butchering him à la Billy would not be the right move.
It's a weird thing with blights base kit. What do you nerf? If you nerf his speed from 230 to 215 he will require the probably nerfed speed add-ons to play a decent chunk of tiles against decent survivors. Turn rate feels great but nerfing that won't result in anything substantial. The only valid base kit nerf in my eyes without making the killer feel bad to play is a slight cooldown nerf to where 5 rushes would take 12(about) seconds instead of 10 to recharge.
Even then as I am sure you have seen me talk about elsewhere. Blight is the pinnacle of skilled gameplay on both sides, interactivity(I really shouldn't have to say minus a few add-ons but I will) at the same time is very very scarce in this game. Blight has many more ways to be countered than any other killer in the game although that doesn't mean any of it is available at a given time/ Just as I would instantly recognize the collision around the tile being played as I approach it, the survivor should do the exact same thing everytime and play around it to an extent. You ever seen someone intentionally pluto a blight in your games outside of shack? You ever seen a blight intentionally self pluto as a mind game? The only thing that trumps blight in terms of knowledge is survivor and that's only because survivor can use every bit of knowledge of each killer against them.
But then again there are less than a 1000 blight mains with a great grasp on the killer and what goes with him, it's far too much to expect from most people.

I'm not sure that's the intention behind maps like Garden of Misery but it is true. An experienced Blight will find ways to overcome these issues. An experienced Billy will either go for a M1, leave chase when the setup is too strong or try a million times from different angles, with different timing, positioning and mindgaming until they either get you or the game ends (me 💀).
The problem is that Billy cannot really readjust in the way that Blight can. Take Haddonfield for example. These houses are an absolute nightmare for Billy but they are somewhat manageable for a good Blight. You vault a window? Well, Blight can follow you, catch up and maybe still get a hit. Billy will have to stop his chainsaw and try to catch up to you again. Which is more than likely going to end the chase and reset the house. And the only solution to that is Bamboozle (Hex: Crowd Control is too unreliable).
They did say that Billy was on the list of killers to receive some changes and after the massive amount of backlash they got when they tried to nerf Engravings I think they know that this is a killer, that many players are passionate about. Which, in my opinion, makes it more likely that they will look at the feedback these players gave them and go from there (copium). I would already be happy with a little bit more speed at base and a rework to his overheat addons (they are all completely useless now).
Yeah, outside of a few tiles that just don't favor blight using his power in the game there is typically always something you can do bar a straight lack of collision to use. Coldwind long walls I noticed always lack collision on 1 to 2 sides majority of the time, but even then the hug tech allows me to play around that to an extent.
I really feel for billy players, what's enjoyable for me about most killers is being able to use your power skillfully and often. There are so many things in the game where even a great billy just has to m1.
I just don't get how the devs can leave him where he is atm when every one loves this killer. I wasn't around before they nerfed him but wasn't the only problem a few overtuned add-ons and the general skill level of survivors being even worse back then? I just hope blight only gets his add-ons hit hard and they don't billy his base kit into something clunky.

That's the logical consequence when BHVR nerf his mobility with the overheat adjustments, invisible walls to prevent Skybilly and unnecessary clutter on most maps, as well as maps like RPD that have exactly 3 spots to use the chainsaw for mobility (outside, main room and the corridor in the east), all while buffing his camping capabilities and creating more and more maps with loop shapes that make it almost impossible to play around with the chainsaw (looking at you Borgo, Eyrie, Garden of Misery, Toba Landing and Nostromo).
I (and many others) warned them, that this would happen, if they keep nerfing his mobility. At this point, they should just remove the overheat mechanic. It doesn't serve any healthy purpose anymore and there are other killers (like Xenomorph) who are allowed to use their mobility constantly as well. It would also bring back Driftking Billy.
I get why it happens and it's just sad. I've gotten one really good billy as survivor and that was a fun experience. I've always thought and said that the more maps they make that are bad for blight for one reason or another are far worse for billy. When I played garden for the first time that was my first thought. I hope they make a return to billy sometime with a really good change to his kit.

It rare for me to get good Billys. Makes me sad as a Billy main.
Most Billys I get are in the cowboy skin and hardly use their chainsaw unless they are trying to camp a hook. I figure I just face a lot of new ones.
I think it's just rare to run into an experienced billy in the first place, people just try billy in their early killer days. I feel you though, I have only run into one blight I would consider good in all my time playing survivor. All the other ones are typically running c33 to supplement the fact they aren't good(at least yet).
-
It's unfortunate that 8/10 billies i get just start hard proxy camping by 2 gens. Has really soured my opinion of him to an extent.

I'm not admitting to anything. I play blight because I despised the brain dead hold w thing back in the day. But just holding w even vs m1 killers is nowhere near as good as skull merchant walking in a triangle.

But it does bend the rules though, right?
That's the issue here, no matter how fun or balanced you might think it is. The reason why Nurse is so strong is because her power by design bends the rules of the game. I think Blight having limitations and being able to ignore them doesn't really seem like good design imo
I get that you find it fun/balanced and the like, and I'm not saying it isn't necessarily. I just don't agree with the concept of it
I respect that you have an issue with it but I simply don't see the reason for it. Nurse bends the rules in a way that is op, when blight bends the rules there are only certain scenarios where it's heavily advantageous and honestly the only two that are super impactful are rush use mitigation while traversing the map and tiles like cold wind long walls with no collision on at least two sides.
If it adds a layer of skill expression to both sides and is more counterable at most tiles than bump logic, what is the harm? It only adds to the game. Most killers just put you in scenarios where you lose with little gameplay(ofc there is a time amount associated with this that can take forever), there are few that are truly interactive. Huntress, Wesker, Billy(although he is under powered) and blight without his ridiculous add-ons come to mind.
If I was asking for a lot from survivors when vsing blight I would say learn all collision on blight so they can also recognize and abuse a lack of collision or even force a pluto outside of the shack tile. Blight has the largest variety of counterplay but that doesn't mean a single bit of it is available at a given time.
Again though, if you don't like the fact that it wasn't necessarily intended all the power to you. I just don't see a single downside in terms of gameplay regarding it.

If BHVR comes out and says he is working as intended, then i shall accept that but they haven't and new bug reports about hug tech are being closed as 'duplicates' which carries an implication that the old bug report, the one BHVR responded to - is still valid and being looked into
It's not a hill I'm gonna die on but I def don't think it's fair to say it's working as intended. Hug tech is one thing, but Blight's being able to moonwalk during their power? How is that remotely intended behaviour of the power? It's not, it's bending the rules imo
It doesn't take a year and a half to at the very least make blight not be able rush while looking below a certain angle. I doubt the character will stay fluid in feel by any means they use to fix it.
The only real tech blight has is the hug tech and anything else is pretty much a derivative of it. But lets be real, a moon rush is simply not going to hit someone that is paying attention. If the blight has enough space to moonrush and the survivor is paying attention, there really shouldn't be a hit, especially when most things you can or are even a little bit worth moonrushing are at filler pallet tiles. It's one of those things that it doesn't matter if blight can moonrush as it's typically a bad idea in the first place. I could moonrush the filler car tile outside the front of badham preschool and give the survivor several opportunities to completely counter it or I could bump 4 times and at the very least get a pallet out. Who cares if it's not intended? It's fun and not strong.

Ehh
'Working as intended' isn't quite right in Blight's case. I'm not saying he should be killswitched, but the fact he's allowed to bend the rules of his power's built in limitations isn't exactly 'working as intended' imho
It's fine overall but it's def not 'intended' if that makes sense. Permitted or accepted, sure I can accept that
I mean is that the case? McClean knew the hug tech was a thing before he left and didn't remove it because blights collision wasn't where he wanted it to be at all. From that standpoint you could say it was technically intended by him the creator. Unfortunately I doubt anything regarding blights collision detection will be changed now that he is gone and a LOT of collision on maps has been changed to blights detriment since Wesker.
Like yeah you can refer to bhvrs statement they made a year and a half ago now but no one probably understands blight too thoroughly or is very good at him on the dev team.
He should receive add-on nerfs for sure, but the hug tech shouldn't be removed even if his collision does get fixed. It has more counterplay than normal blight majority of the time and the times it's strong is at filler tiles or only relatively strong because the tiles themselves don't accommodate his power in some way.

"When survivors don't make stupid mistakes" is a theoretical game state that exists literally nowhere but in the imagination of the imaginer. It's almost unachievable without cheating by using an out-of-game voice coordination. It has no actual applications whatsoever in the actual game. That it might be halfway relevant to the top 0.1% of players really, really shouldn't matter to any serious tier discussion.
I'm well aware that a lot of my posts defy traditional DBD logic, but honestly there are a lot of points where I feel I play a completely different game than whatever some of you have installed.
As for the Xenomorph it's still hard to rate. The tail needs to be tweaked to have a consequence for missing. Turrets in my opinion need to be tweaked to have some sort of effect on wiggle progress when the Alien is carrying a survivor, as currently it's basically a null state where turrets counterintuitively do nothing and the killer faces 0 consequences for ignoring them. Currently I'd say he's high A though I have to be honest I actually hate his lower to the ground field of view, doesn't change he's very strong. With some simple tweaks I think he's still A while being less frustratingly so.

I don't sweat, I haven't in a year and a half. Sweating in this game results in a lack of challenge, even if you go out of your way to play at the most optimal time to get correctly matched opponents like I do.
I could alch ring tunnel someone out with a full meta build every game and win majority of the time even with rust. Hardest I go is alch ring/green speed with only shadowborn these days with no tunneling, even that's rare though. I haven't kicked a gen since February 2022 even.

I don't agree. 3% doesn't mean a lot in some scenarios vs blight but it does in others.
If you barely make it around a the corner of a tile because of mft, that means the blight has to either flick or bump again if that available, that's already big value.
That scenario can happen often especially with how terrible blight players are at the killer.
-
It depends on the person and their experience in other video games and talent in general.
I was an amazing killer player in general at 500 hours of only killer but 250 hours into survivor I would call myself mid/inconsistent.
Personally I always have learned every video game I am super into by watching good players and someone like otz is a perfect content creator for me because sometimes he expresses his thoughts in real time which is what I need. I would recommend you do the same but there is a chance that doesn't help you.
If you genuinely feel lost at improving at at looping you can still heavily impact the game via you perks/playstyle and macro although you are only 1/4.

There are few fun killers. I cycled through many mains before blight and there is no going back in terms of the enjoyment I get from using his power. A side winning a game due to RNG, is fun for the side winning, but the side that is losing, should just suck it up and say "good job?".
That is hella biased.
How about we just have the superbowl team that loses, play a guess the number game, and if they guess the number right, they automatically win regardless of how badly they played.
That guy is beyond survivor biased, it's useless to converse with him.

Well yes the turrets should have plenty of limitations and restrictions since it can make the killer with no power. Yes the killer can destroy them but it requires insane reflexes cuz you only have like 1 second window before it kicks you out of your power. Which is why a lot of survivors have to use their brains to put the turrets in tricky spots but they don’t wanna do that. They just wanna see gens go brrrrr and take their easy win.
Insane reflexes pretty much disqualifies you opinion.

An actual scythe.
Same.

I want a grim reaper skin for Blight
Real scythe is far larger than blights weapon, not sure it'll happen.

This is the only part I'll agree could use a tweak for Xeno. Missing the tail could stand to be a little more punishing.
That being said, Canker+Foxglove don't affect Blight if you whiff.
That was the comparison. Imagine if those add-ons did do something if you whiffed, then you combined them. That's what xeno is right now.

Tail Attack actually is much easier to dodge than Demo's shred. Tail attack has a very skinny hitbox as opposed to the truck-sized hitbox Demo has, can't be buffered, and doesn't cause the Xeno to move at 460%.
Xeno needs no nerf. He's a B-tier killer at best. Learn to play and stop whining.
But xenos right click is a far better neme whip when learned and essentially doesn't punish you for missing. Demo shred is trash in comparison.
I really don't know how people could defend the current state of missing a xeno tail. It's like if I whiffed on blight and got the affects of canker thorn + the brown add-on with the same affect(except those add-ons only affect blight if you use them intentionally).
It's why I hate adren, it's a hard add-on to use but it doesn't matter when the punishment for fing up is 2 seconds.

The Cooldown of Some killers are different from others the killers are the following The Legion, The Xenomorph, The Mastermind and Blight it is totally unfair that for example the Xenomorph fails and has less Cooldown that The Legion even is loses its power completely if it reaches fail another example is the red addon of the Blight allows you to break the pallet completely having only a stun of only 1.5 seconds when I tried to do that with the red addon of the legion it breaks the same and it takes me 3 seconds the same as always even the mastermind does a better job of jumping windows and jumping pallets than the Legion.
I don't think c33 is ever an argument in regards to changes to other characters. The add-on is essentially neme in a bottle, a b tier killer in a singular add-on on top of blights base kit. Also no Wesker doesn't vault pallets or windows better than legion in regards to the objective of legions power.

Nah, continue. If the devs refuse to deal with it, take it into your own hands. Making players like that bleed out is realistically just making them eat the penalty they deserve. On the few occasions I have had to do this in the last year, not a single one of the person that had given up or "afkd" was actually afk, contrary to what people on the forum will tell you.
Majority of the time the other survivors will start meming over their body because they hate dealing with these players as well. Never has a single other person in the lobby asked me why I did that.

I do yes, I think she is capable of being stronger than blight. Blight is at least limited in his ability to traverse the map, if he goes to the wrong gen he is out of juice. She can just continually burrow until she finds people, and her chase is equally as quick as his. So IMO her mobility is much stronger, she also doesn't need any aura perks, which allows her to run full regression.
I do expect her tail attack to be changed or her turrets. Which will bring her down to below his level. I personally think they thought the turrets would be stronger. But one of her addons makes it nearly impossible to get broken out by turrets.
10 seconds after using all 5 rushes for map mobility. Xeno has to take at least 8 seconds for 2 animations and the travel time to get to the closest outlet. Maybe, maybe you can argue stronger than base blight as I have only played 8 or so games vs xeno but alch ring or iri tag on a good blight is absurd.
