What will stop your team from letting you die and not hide until the timer goes down? There's no incentive to play as a team, it'll be everyone for themselves. Having to do gens and power gates turns the game into a team experience.
nothing stops your team from letting you die on first hook now either. happens all the time for the hatch. The incentive would be to have more teammates alive to take chase. obviously there would be kinks to work out along the way.
-
All this topic has made me realize is.
I want a new game mode where the survivor objective is to survive. Instead of doing gens the gates are locked until the time ticks down. once the time limit is reached the gates are powered and the end game collapse is triggered.
Killers role is still the same.
This entirely eliminates the boring hold m1 sim survivors hate ( no one likes doing gens lets be real) and it eliminates gen rushing. Games will now have an actual max time limit.

I've seen cases where the Ghostface stood right in front of them with no cover whatsoever and the survivor couldn't reveal him. It's completely off. Sometimes GF gets revealed in the strangest places and other times he cannot be revealed at all.
it is completely busted. Sometimes you can get revealed behind walls completely out of line of sight and other times you cant get revealed right in front of a survivor.
Hell the otherday i got revealed by a survivor on the first floor of gideon's while I was on the second. I was in the freezer where there is absolutely zero LOS.

fov is not accessability, its just gives you an advantage. thats why its a perk.
also dbd is a very competitive game so max fov would be a standard for every killer. so you should ask yourself this question:
Is the game better balance wise / better looking / has better immersion with the current fov or with the maxed out fov ?
Since everyone will then play with max fov. And i think that the current is better in every 3 of those aspects.
other games have FOV in accessibility options. TLOU2 for example so that is absolutely wrong to say that it isn't accessibility. The default FOV makes me have motion sickness. I cannot play without shadowborn. I shouldn't be forced to run a perk to make it so I can play more than 1 game at a time.
some people in this thread are just so gross. I guess we should get rid of things like color blind settings and visual terror radius because you can technically get a brighter scratch marks by using the right colorblind settings. and you know seeing the heartbeat before you hear the terror radius is a massive advantage.
FOV slider yesterday bhvr, you set the precedent with flashlight changes. Health comes before balance.

Built to Last has been in game for a very long time and already does what everyone is afraid of. Built to Last is actually even better at doing this, because it is 100% reliable. Built to Last also works great paired with other locker perks like Inner Healing, or this build, here:
Built to Last, Hyperfocus, Stake Out, Fast Track
Now, if that build right there is already in game. Already does what people are scared of, yet it is already proven to not be OP, then I am 100% justified in saying that Scavenger is not going to be OP. It is not going to cause a problem.
With scavenger you have to rely on luck to get skill checks, and only after you get that lucky skill check do you even have a chance to get a great skill check. That isn't a better perk, clearly, not even close to being as reliable.
No the combo is scavenger, built to last and then whatever else you want. Scavenger can give you 2 full commodius toolboxes with their add-ons without even needing to get off a gen. You act like hitting 4 great skill checks is hard. news flash it isn't unless you're new to the game.
BTL can trigger iron maiden, BTL can leave you vulnerable to dredge. BTL requires you to waste time in a locker. BTL is strong yes, but it has downsides.
Scavenger has zero downsides and anyone with more than 60 hours in the game should be able to hit atleast 4 great skill checks agame since when you miss a skill check your tokens do not reset like hyper focus.

I don't think that would solve the issue. I think buffing lower-tier killers to be faster/improve their powers would change that. Made For This is really not the threat it's being made out to be.
We definitely do not need to buff killers speeds. Which should go to show that even though I main killer, I don't want to be OP I want the game to be fair. For everyone playing.

I think its hilarious that people to this date consider hyperfocus to not be good, the only thing that makes it not meta is that people are incredibly bad at the game and cannot hit skillchecks, id say release scavenger and made for this and see if they are problematic, imo scavenger won't be problematic because as previously stated somehow people are that bad they cannot hit 4 great skillcheck which is baffling, and made for this, I do think that perk is incredibly strong but Id preffer if it was released as it is as people can actually see the effects it can have in order to have evidence on how probleatic it could be.
made for this just needs to not stack with anything else and it will be annoying but fair.
scavenger needs an entire rework.

Otz created a clickbait fearmongering video. He totally ignored that there is already a perk that exists in the game that repairs you toolboxes, Built to Last, and it does it MORE THAN ONCE! It is already in game and it is already proven to NOT be overpowered.
SO, he just wants toolboxes nerfed and is hoping that if he lies to his audience about a new perk he can rile the fanatics up...
My advice, stop being a fanatic and start thinking things through for yourselves.
he didnt ignore it at all, he even showed that they can be paired them together.
I started talking about this before I even watched any creator's stuff. Get this I actually played the PTB my self. I only linked the video because he has the math and the testing. all you have is half baked insults and clear ignorance of the topic.
-
otz broke down the math, perk is op especially when paired with built to last. you cant argue with math.

And refusing to participate in normal gameplay whilst holding the game hostage is also bannable.
What's your point?
survivors can break a 3 gen or put themselves in a situation where they can die. They do not have to remain in the game, they have ways out.
in your scenario the survivors if they're the last two left the killer has no recourse and can't do anything about it.
there is a massive difference and you know it.

So, I'll take an example that has happened to me.
Two Survivors glitch into a spot where they aren't able to be hit. The other two die. Using your logic, they are just trying to win, despite the slim odds. They should be allowed to stay there and hold the game until the server closes, because to come down would be throwing the match and intentionally losing.
no they should come down because using an exploit to hold the game hostage is a bannable offense.

Then how should killers ideally play maps like Azarov’s and Suffocation Pit? I’m not talking about ideal in regards to “fun”, I’m talking about winning.
This is not a facetious question. I just genuinely find it hard to look at these maps and think that 3 genning is not an inherent part of the game design. But due to killers that have been released recently the complaints about killers defending 3 gens have now become more vocal. Because a skull merchant defending a 3 Gen is not the same as much of the roster.
I still also find it interesting that 3 Gen scenarios are framed as killers “drawing the game out”. Not defending their objectives? Weird way to blame one side of the player base for an issue which the devs and survivors shoulder a lot of responsibility.
I mean soon some killers won't even be able to chase injured survivors. bhvr doesn't care about killers, we just get nerf after nerf. Every strategy we have we're told no you can't do that. They nerfed gen regression and are buffing gen speed perks.
At this point all we have left is to stare at rocks. TCM is around the corner brighter days await.
-
it should simple, when it gets down to 2 remaining survivors. if they don't touch a gen they get crows at a faster rate then if they were to go afk.
Everytime I get a game where 1 survivor is hiding while the other is actually trying to do gens I feel bad. I rather let them finish the gens while I hunt for the rat who is punishing their teammate.
maybe require a certain amount of objective points for the hatch to spawn. so a survivor who fought can escape, but someone who dragged their team down cannot.

Yes, Built to Last sounds qualitatively better since I can use it more than once and on items found in the trial.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3436072#Comment_3436072
Until you're found by a Killer with aura reading as you have no chase perks and go down fast (unless, of course, MMR is borked again but that's the fault of MMR; not the perks).
It's a good combo but it'll be at its most effective against Killers that overcommit to chases and try to tunnel and camp as their first and only option. If you can spread out pressure it'll be less effective.
tbh I've never needed to use chase perks. I've always ran builds like this. My favorite survivor build at this moment is Reassurance, Hyperfocus. Dejavu and bond. Exhaustion perks are crutches.

As we state in the patch notes, this is a temp measure - short term, whilst we look at longer term options
it is a bad temp measure and shouldn't reach live. Nor should anymore gen speed perks be added or buffed. if anything gen speed perks require a nerf.
if you can't do that then you need to revert the gen regression nerfs or give us something like base kit deadlock. Survivors shouldn't be able to do 3 gens in 90 seconds(or less with perks+toolboxes) at the start of a match during the first chase.
I'm for getting rid of 3 gens, I am for getting rid of camping and tunneling.

Scavenger + hyperfocus + built to last + new De Ja Vu + purple tool box with brand new part. Nope that isn't a huge problem.

Even though the charges are less each time you use Built to Last you can use it more than once so overall get more charges back. Scavenger is disabled for remainder of match after you recharge the toolbox once.
true but you dont instantly get those charges back with built to last you have to go into a locker each and every time. Which is time you're not spending on gens.
with scavenger you can hit your 4 great skill checks without ever leaving the generator to fully repair the toolbox.
overall the time you spend in the locker to recharge your tool box makes it balanced.

most people don’t hit great skill checks every time.
You don't need to hit the skill checks in a row, they build up overtime. if you can hit the first 2 with a BNP then you're half way done.

Totally get that. There are definitely still maps like Cowshed and Suffocation Pit where you can get some nasty rng spawns for window chains, but in my experience those are more rare than common. I run Windows of Opportunity every game and the amount of times I’ll see entire areas where theres nothing but a set of windows to run to is rather common.
rare for you as a survivor maybe. but I get them often enough in my killer experience to call a common occurrence.

Survivor problems will be solved when killers are buffed sufficiently. Then they won't be crushed by SWF. Perhaps when we reach that point we can start to address survivors not playing in the SWF, until then we they'll have to take the shaft for the greater good.
no. absolutely not. In 10 games i may play 1 game against a competent team we don't need to punish solo's anymore. Frankly I am sick to death of crushing solo q potatoes.

It's going to be worse than that - Killers are all going to play Texas Chainsaw. You get a group of friends and kill together. There's no more of this lonely solo killer nonsense.

-"We should see how is the game without camping & tunnelling and balance should be around this."
The problem with DBD in its current state is there is no real way to stop survivors from doing generators. A strong SWF will finish the game in under 4 minutes. A comp team can finish the gens in 3 minutes.
When you say : "DBD needs tunneling prevention," you're only thinking about the survivor half of the equation. Killers need to be able to defend generators or there's no point in playing. It's beyond not fun to have survivors finish the gens by the time you get 2-4 hooks unless you hooked one player three times so you just camp the next player to death and get your 2 kills. Is that fun? It's really not for most of the people involved but that's where we are in the game's lifecycle.
God I hope that game is good. Playing killer in dbd isn't enjoyable, you're either against potatoes or gods. There isn't any in between. Its not fun to just flatten survivors and its definitely not fun to get crushed.

Fair enough:
Reduction of noise alerts: I could see that, that not sure I'd trust BHVR to code it well.
Chase music: Standardizing killer music volumes, got it. I feel like a lowering of chase music volume would be a pretty substantial buff to killers, but I say that as someone finds tracking survivors by sound really easy in the game currently.
FoV: Honestly surprised they haven't done this given the number of complaints. Has BHVR ever said why they haven't just done this? Feels like it would be at most a minor buff to killers.
They havent said anything about it. However with the changes to flashlights due to health concerns the precedent has been set and they have no valid excuse. Gameplay balance issues was not an excuse for flashlights and it is not an excuse for FOV.
Not all killer music needs to be lowered. Just standardized. Some killers chase music completely drowns out the hatch which, the hatch is loud as hell.

I think FoV, better controller settings and fixing the audio issues would be pretty much all the QoL I could think of for Killer's as a whole.
Oh, and getting rid of the stupid hook bubbles. But that's kinda something that Survivors and Killers want.
I forgot about the hook bubbles. TBH i hate them on survivor too. I think those bubbles are something everyone can agree needs to be changed.

Killer gameplay and accessibility improvements:What do you want?
Survivors get gameplay and accessibility improvements because there are lots of ways the game can be improved for survivors.
The only real suggestion out there for killers if field of view.
Some killers should get balance attention, and some maps should be looked at, but those are balance questions. If we're discussing gameplay what is that killers could get that would make it a better gaming experience.
For someone like me who suffers from sensory overload, I want a reduction of noise alerts. Survivors constantly fast vaulting is brutal.
Chase music is already too loud on some killers as is and all of them should be changed to the same volume. Chase music should not drown out all other sound. I have a friend who is vision impaired and needs to hear survivors to play. (he only has one eye)
FOV is the thing I need the most right away as I actively am forced to waste a perk slot just so i can enjoy the game without feeling like I am going to lose my lunch.
-
BHVR needs to add a FOV slider for killers, yesterday. Im tired of wasting a perks slot so I can not get motion sickness. Flashlights were changed due to health concerns so the precedent has been set by bhvr to step it up.
-
I agree with a lot of what you said. Also chase music needs to go down a couple decibels.

If they want me to have hatch they will pick me up on drop me on top of the hatch. If they were just trying to close it on me they will get tired of waiting and put me on a hook.
I almost never drop on the hatch, I've never closed it in front of anyone. if you shook your head at me after I'd placed you near the hatch you there and l would just leave the area.
I'm giving you hatch, not playing taxi driver. But lets be honest usually if im giving someone hatch I don't down them anyway, I don't even bother hunting them. I don't require you to know I gave you hatch.

Believe it or not, not everyone cares about winning more than having a healthy game.
as a killer main who happens to be a 12 hook andy, I care about enjoyment of the game overall my self. I don't think healthy hook grabs should be a thing. However I also think survivors fresh off the hook should have zero collision during their endurance. Removing collision off a hook save removes the ability to tunnel, but it also removes their ability to body block.
It would also be nice if the hooks could act like the executioners cages and move but that won't ever happen.

Should be the opposite question
Im not saying having a streak of bad games doesnt happen, but youre more likely going to remember a single bad game over 10 regular games
in my survivor experience, i go through game after game of misery as survivor in solo q. I may have 1 good game every couple days. 9/10 games someone is hard tunneled right out of the game and there is no fun to be had in those games.
in my killer experience i try to make every game fun and not be a try hard.
-
I agree lets bring some fun things back, like the myers speedster build.
-
tunneling was way less prevalent before bbq lost its BP bonus. just saying.
-
Gen placement is really poor in this game, if they fixed the minimum distance from gen to gen it would drastically improve the game.
-
I disagree with this, because as someone who only plays survivor solo I cant control who my team mates are or what they do. Solo survivors get screwed enough. I main killer so I understand where you come from, it does at times feel like you were robbed. Hurting solo more isn't worth an extra kill.
When you get down to 2 survivors you never know what you're going to get. 2 survivor warriors who fight to the finish? 2 survivors who both decided they want to hide for hatch and now you're spending forever trying to find them? A mix of both? A dc? An attempt suicide by running to the killer which almost always ends in getting slugged so the killer can get a 4k instead of just hooking the person who wanted out?
Just move on to the next and forget about the dc.
-
if anything we need more of these, and less of the "complete in 1 trial" types.
-
yeah I give up trying to hook them after 2 - 3 attempts if they don't want to be hooked then they can bleed out. I hate having to do that though, it isn't efficient and makes a game last a lot longer than it needs to.

It wont blow the Resident Evil chapters sales out of the water. Resident Evil is one of the hottest franchises alive these days. FNAF fans don't even come close to those numbers. She's not.
Even if you don't use the 3-gen or Totem Defender strat, you're just gonna be an anti-loop Killer. Place Drone at loop, Survivors must leave loop and eat an M1, hold W, repeat.
You could just play Knight. That's a significant portion of his gameplay.
I don't like the way the knights power works, at all he sucks and I do not like the way he feels. Sms power is more fun to use. So no I rather play her. Her chase music absolutely sucks though.

And yet, I've not been held in 30 minute matches by any other Killer.
I have actually, by an infinite t3 michael that refused to hook me while searching for the other person that spent the whole game hiding. He left me to bleed out and then when I got close to dying he carried me around I had to bait him into killing me so I could leave with out dcing. I posted about that here on the forums right after wesker came out. Before the knight was a thing.
I have also been 3 genned multiple times at over 30 minutes by a knight. You can hate the skull merchant all you want, but if I wanted to 3 gen you with huntress I could and I would have an easier time doing it with her than the skull merchant. Playing like that sucks though and isn't fun.
The real issue is gen placement. Which again almost everyone conveniently ignores.

This is exactly what I am talking about that doesn't get enough attention. The gens shouldn't be close enough that you can lock down 2 more gens with 1 drone. Thank you for posting this.

I don't really think the problem is about tastes, it's that none of these killers have the ability to routinely stretch games to the 30 minute mark. Can the Skull Merchant be successful without 3-genning? Yes. But will the playerbase do that? Hell no. If people can win with little effort, they will 100% do that, even if it means the game will take forever and be taken hostage by the killer. Not to mention that because of the us vs them mentality with this game, some people will revel in their ability to waste 30 minutes of the survivors' time, thinking they are doing the world a great service (pfffff).
The current problem with the SM 3-gen strategy is it has no worthwhile counter if the killer will not commit to a chase. With 4 drones in hand, you'll always have spare drones to replace a hacked drone. If the survivors have a claw, they likely will not be able to work on a gen since they will easily be found and brought down. It's a poor interaction between the survivors and the killer power, especially compared to say Plague's, which have a much more interesting dynamic. You full heal, but on the flip side you give the killer a means to get an incredibly deadly attack for a few seconds.
Ive already said they need to fix 3 genning. Make it so gens are further apart and when 3 gens are completed 1-2 breakdown and can be repaired again. Doing this when you're at 1 gen left instead of 3 gens being able to be repaired there are now 4-5 gens available and now 3 gen strats are completely annihilated for all killers. Not just SM but the Knight aswell.
but everyone just ignores that is the real problem here. Like you have done in your post. I absolutely want 3 gens gone. Because yes i hate facing skull merchants because of the default 3 gen mode.

@Brokenbones said:

3 genning isn't the only problem people have with SM, it's just the most widely complained about one for sure.
I know it sucks to hear about, but it's nobodies fault but BHVRs for releasing two "objective defense" centered killers in a row, during the time when generator kicking perks were the strongest they likely ever will be.
On a completely personal preference note, I want a full rework because I think SM is one of the worst and most disappointing killer designs in the game and I think a brand new power would be way better than what we have now imho.
I could say that about killers I dislike too. Legion, Plague, Oni, doctor etc. But I don't despite how boring they're to me and disappointing they're I don't demand reworks because a killer wasn't designed to my particular tastes.
I like her, I like her power. I think for the most part she is fine. A lot of her issues can be fixed by fixing gen placement and removing the ability to 3 gen.
