I never understood the argument that when a Distortion player loads into the game that they're harming the rest of the team by not being found with Lethal Pursuer. If the perk was so strong, why didn't other people put the perk on as well? If people complained that they're found first, why not use a perk that countered LP?
As I said many times, you can be a good looper and have Distortion on. I never understood the fascination of people who play killer and feel like they need no counterplay to survivors having their aura being red. This game is built around having counterplay to readily used perks in the game and punishing people for using the perk because (some people rat, rare situations) is not a good change. If anything, I'm hoping that after this nerf — Behavior will look at aura reading and the amounts of it that they've created in the game. It's exhausting having your aura being red constantly and having to be in chase, especially with how strong tunneling a survivor out at the beginning is.
I've seen killers (Otzdarva included) play with Friends Til The End and tunnel a survivor off of hook because they get no value out of a snowball and exposing of other survivors because the obsession was a Distortion user.
whats exhausting is having that teammate who hasn't been chased or hooked all match because they're just hide the instant the terror radius shows up while everyone is on deathhook.
take your share of the chases, stop forcing everyone else to carry you through the game.

they already hide in lockers as well.
Then I assume you understand that the Distortion nerf is completely pointless, yes?
it absolutely isn't pointless what complete and total disingenuous argument, that has already been covered in this topic.
-
I pretty much only use the wolf form and never used the hug tech. I just love being the wolf and would like a werewolf killer at somepoint or another. I don't really care about hellfire or being a bat I understand it is optimal but I play this game for fun and not optimally.

I don't think that's the point, because Distortion isn't going to do that. People can just sit in lockers if they want to never be found. Distortion just allows them to help the team without getting a large neon sign slapped on their back that says 'KILL ME NOW'.
they already hide in lockers as well.

"doing it by generators still allows you to never interact with the killer."
So, by your definition being a rat is doing generators, no?
If a killer goes near my gen, kicks it, and patrols around the area and I'm crouching around objects to avoid being found, am I a rat?
Idk man, you saying Distortion promotes rat behavior but allowing it to regenerate by doing gens (actively pushing the game forward) actively avoids people waiting around for their team to die (your words) would incentivize the player to get Distortion tokens, yeah?
if your doing it at the expense of your own team who are not using distortion, you're actively punishing them and that is why this perk needs this much needed healthy change. Do you understand yet? You will never improve your chase game if all you do is avoid avoid avoid.
-
pretty sure you can report the mikaela for working with the killer. I could be wrong though.

"This change will make distortion even stronger for players who take chases and get involved in progressing the game forward."
Stealth play with stealth-distortion-gen-rushing is also quite good at progressing the game forward - it catches the killer off-guard many times whilst they are not being spoon-fed ez-pz survivors wall hackzI guess we just have to let this all run its course.. after this it will only be a matter of time before the devs address the wall hacks.. once upon a time aura reading was not a thing - go back to the roots?
i doubt it there are too many aura perks in general for both survivor and killer to get rid of them. Poised changes are looking awesome btw.
-
@Pirscher said:
This nerf hasn't gone through yet - it is just a PTB suggestion.
If the nerf goes through, that will give so much more power to aura-read-killers.. right now there are plenty of killers running all-out aura reading builds with aura-read perks and add-ons. They chew through the 3 Distortion tokens quite quickly and then after that point mind games from the survivor become completely void because the killer can just see you with a "wall hack"-like ability..
I cannot recall seeing survivors once in solo queue only hiding with distortion.. maybe it is a particular mmr-bracket where that happens?this has already been addressed in this post, it happens in all mmr brackets and the distortion change will only be weak for people who rat. if you take chase your distortion will activate, if that killer has aura reading perks in chase your distortion will activate more frequently. Distortion doesn't have a cooldown.
example, killer brings im all ears and is chasing you. You fast vault your aura isn't seen because distortion works. The next time you fast vault your aura will still be hidden because you will be in chase and therefore distortion will activate. essentially if your in chase your distortion will constantly be activating more so than it would if you had 4 tokens and had to regain them by simply being in the terror radius. This change will make distortion even stronger for players who take chases and get involved in progressing the game forward.
distortion also has a slightly longer duration. in some ways this is an acutal buff to distortion, but players are too short sighted to see it like that. It really makes me wonder why that is.

Why do you assume that every Distortion player doesn't take chase lol? I used to run Bond, Deja Vu, Distortion, and Sprint Burst on my Dwight back in the day and I would take chase for people off of hook even with Friends Til The End active where I'm obsession.
Even if I'll get hooked and it transfers to someone else, I would always try to take protection hits for someone I saw on death hook because that's what a player does if they want their best chance of not being steamrolled in a game of Dead By Daylight.
Yes, I've experienced people hiding when I'm actively in a chase near them but guess what? These same people don't help or take chase WITHOUT Distortion because it's solo-queue. If someone doesn't want to take chase, they don't need Distortion to outright prevent it. People will watch you be in chase and do nothing because they are randoms and will "rat" as you put it no matter what because put simply, randoms can be SELFISH.
i very much clearly stated in a previous post that I don't think they all do. I very clearly said the ones that do take chases etc aren't an issue and lets be honest this nerf won't effect them at all since they do take chases their perk will activate. New distortion is an anti aura chase perk for things that show aura during chase in which there are several, between perks like im all ears and the several addons like say huntresses glow hatchets.
its disingenuous of you to say that I think every distortion user is the problem when I've said multiple times its only the rat players that are the issue and it will only be the rat players who are really effected by this nerf.

I'm not claiming I'm amazing at the game or something, I always figured I was in the middle of mmr somewhere. I just never noticed distortion users as such a big issue. I mean I definitely have useless teammates but most of the time they don't even have distortion. I mean it's possible I just haven't been paying attention I guess. Just seems to me that the heavy use of Distortion is more due to the ridiculous amount of aura perks in the game now. It's just strange that the mode in the game with less players has become the easy mode, and now they need even more wallhacks? I dunno I think if this update goes live as is it will end up causing more problems than it solves.
distortion will still be good, it will just require you to get into a chase. which is fair more than fair and balanced then how it works now. Hiding in a terror radius to recharge stacks isnt even balanced when you consider some killers have massive terror radius and others have little to no terror radius.
This change makes it so every distortion will work the same against wesker and pig or ghostface.
as a side note i don't care about distortion when I do play killer because I don't use aura perks. I typically use trail of torment, tinker, hex plaything and hysteria because I like scaring the crap out of people on killers that typically aren't stealth characters. The reactions in endgame when I get them are generally funny.

That's not entirely true. It will only match you with "everyone" if its taking too long to find people closer to your level because they prioritize speed of matchmaking.
lets play sometime since you seem to think rats aren't a problem at every stage of mmr I'm curious too see how good you actually are vs how good you think you are. its the only way were going to move forward at this point.

I was in a game with quaddi a while back too I don't assume that means I am as high mmr as them. 5 gen chases are extremely rare if the killer knows what they are doing at all.
I never said I was high mmr, my point has always been that mmr is a joke. You don't need to be high mmr to play with high mmr players. That is why I said he didn't know how mmr works and clearly you don't either. High mmr is something like only 2.5% of the player base and they need to match with people so they don't spend 30 minutes in a queue.

Not really almost all the new/rewoked ones suck now. You can only get long chases there if the killer is really bad. Also rancid abattoir got gutted and there are a lot of other bad maps. Soon badham will get gutted and then next ones.
Just because you can't doesn't mean everyone else can't. The killer only needs to be bad if you're not very good.

On the newer/reworked maps I would say no overall (exception nostromo and singularity map). The old maps, that didn‘t get changed the last 2 years, are decent, but I‘m not talking about those.
there is only one map where i would agree with you and that is haddonfield, every other map you can absolutely run 5 gen chases.

The only thing I disagree is that distortion plays a big part in this.
About behavior moving to more chase oriented gameplay. Disagree, they constantly nerf all maps into trash for survivors, so you can‘t have longer chases anymore.
maps are a whole other topic. I don't disagree that they need improvement. But to say you can't have long chases anymore is asinine. You absolutely can still have long chases they happen regularly enough that i would say your wrong overall.

well,
one of the developers once said years ago: Playing with aura reading can be very interesting. Honestly? There is now far too much aura reading in the game. Regardless of whether it's perks or add-ons.
Playing with Aura Reading is uninteresting, but feels like cheating and requires no skill !
It's just far too much….. Distortion works against many perks and add-ons, that's true, but only if you play it right !
Meanwhile, there is so much aura reading that the tokens are used up very quickly and you have to go into the terror radius to recharge them, which takes time. Time that you can't spend on a generator, time that benefits the killers.
But none of the developers seem to be interested anymore. I'm a solo player and I don't want to be constantly hunted. Whether the developers like it or not, but that should also be taken into account. If the change goes live like this, there will be a shitstorm. I'm seriously considering giving up the solo Survivor game and just playing SWF.
Hiding no longer helps. Hide and Seek is over...what has become of DBD.... become? Now you can run the other tools like Sole Survivor by Laurie or Urban Evasion by Nea into the ground, because they are becoming increasingly useless. Time to get a grip on DS, DH and co.
solo survivor player here, distortion nerf is warrented and welcome. distortion players finally will be forced to earn their power.

I thought you wanted survivors not to sit in the corner and doing gens. I have no idea what exactly you want, I thought with „ratting“ you meant doing nothing and I gave ideas how to make it a lot weaker and tried to solve your „ratting“ problem.
The third and first idea would be my preferred changes.
Other people shouldn‘t decide wether you play stealth or chase oriented in my opinion.
it is obvious bhvr has been moving towards a more chase oriented gameplay. Hide and seek does not fit into that.
I do want them to do gens, I also want them to go for saves and take chases and do their part. Just because behaviour says you can play selfish doesn't mean you should I feel like that is lost on the majority of players. We all agree that playing survivor is a miserable experience, and those selfish players are at the forefront of why that is.
-
Killer is the easiest it has ever been. You need to learn when to drop chases. You want to see unfair go play soloq survivor. Rank means nothing, it resets every month on the 13th and only gives you bp. if your losing as badly as you say you are then your mmr is not the problem.
You need to learn when to drop chase, if a survivor is looping you that hard stop chasing them and go to one of the other 3, there is always a weak link expose it and you can use to put pressure on the team. if a survivor is trying to bait you into chasing them absolutely do not fall for it. Never let them lead you to strong tiles. Never let them lead you away from generators, in fact never let them lead you anywhere.
if you're just starting it will take awhile, but your in control of the chase put them into unfavorable positions by switching up the mind games. Don't let them control the chase, ever.
you got this do not give up.

I‘m trying to make a fair perk change, that keeps it viable. The new change will delete it basically and there is a reason why people play it so I try to keep that in mind. The changes I suggested would do exactly that and make it a lot less efficient.
recharging by doing gens means they do not even need to be near the killer, which makes it even more of a potential rat perk.

BHVR had a precursor game to this one called Death Garden, and I think many people do not know this as it had a much smaller community. But I believe that it was a sandbox for what became DBD. In a way I feel the changes BHVR now makes are steering the game in a direction that for them is more equitable (not balanced or equal, but fair). I do not believe they wish to make game unfun for survivors or killers, but I think it is tough to create a great experience for both roles at all times. I believe they do talk about issues like tunneling and camping and survivor-killer engagement. They make changes and walk them back, then make new changes, all to find a comfortable position. They were much worse with Death Garden, and it killed their game. I am confident they are trying to avoid that with this game.
I personally have 4-man SWF, we are good together. But I do not play solo queue for a SWF experience. I play SWF for a SWF experience. And when I play killer sometimes I face good SWF, sometimes bad, sometimes solo queue who are uncoordinated, sometimes solo queue that comes together and defeats me. And it is all OK with me. It should be with others as well. I do not care what perks another uses and I do not advocate for a perk to be ruined to punish people who play in a manner I don’t.
I feel players must stop hunting for a SWF experience in solo queue. If a player wants SWF experience, play SWF. Do not further demoralize solo queue players because they do not play as a SWF. SWF does not need Distortion, but it was a helpful perk for solo queue survivors. Same with other perks.
This madness must end.
I opened by saying ending distortion rating will improve the soloq experience, I believe that because I only play soloq. I don't care about swf or the swf experience, but I'm tired of seeing people do absolutely nothing while I put in effort to get everyone out and then there is that bill in the corner with distortion, left behind, sole survivor, wake up with a key waiting for us all to die.
distortion is a terrible perk for everyone besides distortion rats in its current state. the future changes will make distortion rats EARN it back and not ruin every one elses experience for free.

- Make it’s duration 7s - This makes distortion consume 2 tokens when somebody brings perks that are longer than 7s or when lethal makes it longer
- Recharge by doing gens - The point of the perk is to not get found, it recharging in chase makes therefore no sense. This would also discourage „rating“
- Slower recharge by 5-10s
- It no longer hides scratch marks - It is an aura hiding perk not a scratch mark hiding perk
I would do 1-2 of them and it would be fine
the whole reason it is being changed is to make people take chases and stop hiding so your missing the entire point of the nerf.

Because my friends play it ALL THE TIME and they will probably stop playing because of the nerf. It‘s already hard to convince them. They need it because they are bad at chasing and they are not playing like „rats“ (no idea who said that but it’s fitting).
Another thing I mention in other posts is what distortion does to the pick rate of aura perks. It decreases it by a lot, at least it discourages me to use aura perks as killer. I hate not knowing when my auras is shown and getting hit or found because of that. My friends always tell me what aura perks the killer has which makes it okey.
Another thing is maps which is not what I want discus here, but I dislike the combination with this change. Maps are designed weaker and weaker with each update and now getting found more and more plays into this bad design.
Edit: It will probably make soloq a running simulator from unhook to unhook now. At least autodidact will be useful.
they can still tell you because they perk will deactivate if they have them. Then all they need to do is get into a chase and it reactivates. This nerf only effects people who refuse to take chase at all. It doesn't effect people who take chases in the match. New distortion is a chase perk as it shuts down aura reading during the chase. Perks like I'm all ears for example will now be less effective, huntresses glow hatchets etc.

Also people who’d like to chase more can take them and I do that. I like chases.
you did not say anywhere in your post that you specifically do not use it, you said you understand why people do it. That does not mean you don't do it yourself at all. Go reread your own post before you come at me aggressively like that. Judging by the way your posting it is relatively safe to assume that you're lying and do use it.

@Langweilig said:
You are so naive. Now aura perks will become meta and soon a problem. Then they will get gutted.
Besides that most distortion players aren‘t Rats, but they don‘t want to chase all the time which gets more and more impossible due to bad map changes. Also how dare they not wanting to play like you want them to play. All of that comes from someone who doesn‘t play distortion, because it’s a useless perk, but I understand why people play it.
so everyone who doesn't run distortion should now take your share of the chases?

They already use lockers.
They use lockers and Distortion, Iron Will, UE, and Left Behind. Distortion getting nerfed means one less tool in their arsenal. It doesn't solve the problem, BHVR needs to make deeper changes to get people to actively participate in the game instead of throwing the entire match for a chance at a hatch escape, but just because it doesn't completely solve the problem doesn't mean it shouldn't be done at all.
I mean, what are solo queue players supposed to do when we get these teammates. Go "next" every time? It's against the rules to try to take the killer over to them. I can't force them to play; I've tried, I've tried getting them out from behind that rock or out of a locker and showing them a gen, they will not follow, and they'll keep doing what they're doing even if you follow them around. You can't change a player's BHVR by saying "Please stop it." So what is solo queue supposed to do other than complain to BHVR to fix their game?
right this playstyle should be hard nerfed into the ground. add crows to anyone who doesnt progress the game.
-
@Ayodam said:
So when they move over to lockers (and they will), will you complain about those next? Just curious.
What do you mean they already do hide in lockers.

it will absolutely help, it won't be the end all be all but it is better than what it was.

Game makes the lions share of it's money through cosmetics. People like knowing that others are seeing the cosmetics. If you make that less likely, they will be less inclined to purchase cosmetics.
It's not happening. No game with cosmetic purchases has this option.
no adult i know cares about what skin or survivor people are using what. I buy skins and cosmetics because I want to use them not to show off to 4 other people in a game I'll probably never play with again. People buy skins in single player games so this argument is dead in the water.
-
@Booper36 said:
People like to show off their cosmetics to other players and I would say is at least a third of why people like to get cosmetics. I think everyone getting to combo aspects of their outfit and have some cool, fun or killer specific charms gives each player their own personality and make the game feel more alive. Taking that aspect away for some people because they're obsessed with immersion or the idea the have of the game being broken would be a real shame and not to mention unfair, as some cosmetics can technically be beneficial or be a hinderance to stealth, then people would be getting advantages by having the mode on or off and one mode might be more beneficial for people who are competitive and want the upper hand, people may use it depending on survivors outfits if it would be more advantageous with the mode turned on or off for the killer.
It's just a no go idea for me. I like going into a match knowing others will see my wacky outfit or my matching fit with my friend or my new rift outfit I've been grinding for, that aspect of the game shouldn't be taken away.
You want to see cosmetics and the op here says they want to see the base skins. Why does what you want to see trump what they want to see when you don't see what they see. That is like you saying I can't use color blind mode because it ruins your immersion. That is incredibly self centered and selfish of you.
This option would also help lower end consoles and pcs performance with the ability to reduce overall texture and model load if there is multiple kates in the same game. instead of loading 4 different unique kates those consoles now only load 1. From a technical standpoint this could greatly boost performance for players using last gen consoles like the switch.
-
back in the day there used to be settings in mp games to force player models to default. I don't see why that would be a problem. Boo hoo someone else cant see your skin you bought, why does that bug you considering you do not see and wouldn't even know said player used that option?
The skins you buy and use are for you, they're not for other people. I remember playing Jedi Academy back in the day using modded skins and everyone else would see me as kyle katarn, it never bothered me one bit that no one seen me in my darth vader or grey fox from mgs skins. This was common place, almost every player was kyle because we all had modded skins and could only see the modded skins other people had installed.
This is a good idea and bhvr should implement it.
-
if these changes go to the main game, i forsee a lot of justified slugging, I rather get tunneled. Instead of giving people 60 seconds of endurance, remove the players collision for 60 seconds instead. No weaponizing body blocking that way.

I misread the post you were responding to. Apologies, that's my bad. The problem is that in all these different threads everyone uses different wording for these things. Most people I've conversed with mean the public lobby when they say pre-game lobby (vs the post-game lobby/screen). I've seen people refer to the private lobby as the SWF lobby and the pre-pre-game lobby.
yeah its confusing sometimes it should just be pre-game lobby, game lobby, end game lobby.

There are 2 different lobbies before entering a match. The first one is private, SWF only. Then, once everyone there is ready, the game looks for a public lobby with a killer and any other survivors needed to fill out the match.
The original poster is specifically talking about the first private lobby and excluding the second public lobby. Dodging is not a possible problem in the private SWF lobby. There's every reason to hide prestige in the public lobby but no reason to hide it in the private SWF-only lobby. Friends like to show off and compare progress when hanging out, it makes sense to allow it privately amongst friends.
I know that which is why I refered to it as the pre-game lobby and not the game lobby or end game lobby.

it was hidden to prevent lobby dodging which happened to me almost anytime i picked kate. It should be hidden atleast from killers.
I know you meant the pre game lobby. You can see it in the end game lobby… -

Cause now it feels to strong and overpowered perk especially if combine with off the record. Of course nerf should be fair to not make perk completely useless so for example this change can make this perk more fair:
Nerf: After being unhooked or unhooking yourself, Decisive Strike activates for the next 20/30/40 seconds (now 40/50/60 seconds)Nerf: Stuns the Killer for 2 seconds (now 4 seconds).Nerf: Make survivor who use it exhausted for 10 second (to prevent use haste perk after ds stun)Nerf: Perk doesnt activate when you exhausted (for same reason)these changes are bad, if anything they should make it so ds can be used twice in a match.

it maybe more complicated than you think to make it so swf can see prestige while non swf can't. Maybe they should change it so only survivors can see prestige in the lobby.

Showing perks in the public lobby would lead to dodging. I've seen threads created where people ask for that specifically so they can dodge builds they don't like. And it would be even more telling than prestige of how new a player might be (a Dwight running only a single tier 1 perk is not going to be popular).
You're most likely right, and if that is the case than perhaps they shouldn't show items either. I know survivors that dodge because of keys.

I have seen far fewer dodges since they removed the ability to see prestige. Im glad its gone, I hope it doesn't come back. I see your point for swf lobbies, I also think we should be able to see our teammates perks like you can on mobile or atleast like you could on mobile haven't played in a long time.

you'd think with a match making system based on skill it wouldn't be as bad as it is. Its almost as if the skill based match making system doesnt actually factor in skill…. at all…

i took a massive break for a couple days when the casting of frank stone released plus a few extra before since I was playing other games.
a couple days isn't a massive break, I stopped playing when they did the unreal update and just came back for CV and I still wouldn't call that a massive break.
taking a break didn't help this game is still a miserable experience for survivor especially in soloq. Killer is still easy mode for the most part. But atleast I get to run around as a wolf now.

you cant even hear the hatch if its behind a shrub sometimes. It is straight up busted and almost unplayable right now. You can't hear anything especially with chase music.

another question that is also quite popular, if we are having locker standoff between Tombstone Myers and survivor in locker, is it also considered not taking the game hostage if survivor doesn't want to give Myers a mori kill and Myers doesn't wanna grab them from locker?
the survivor isn't the one holding the game hostage in this scenario, the myers is. The survivor is dead either way Myers is the one not acting on it.

if you compare wolf to demo shred, demo shred is still better because you only need charge shred for demo for 0.45 seconds while wolf has to do full 1 second. Demo shred also recovers from pallet breaks much faster. at loops, it is worse to charge longer because it makes easier line of sight the attack which is why sliding tech was used to get angles to use said ability.
between loops as catch-up tool, it is also worse then wesker's 2 bounds because wesker can bound, then wait, see what movement for survivor is and then bound again. wolf has static pounce→pounce making attack more predictable. both attack have less distance, 5+5 meters vs 5 meter dash 1 and 8-9 meter for dash 2 on wesker. the hitbox of wesker is also like 2x bigger so it is way easier land his ability where as wolf is very hard land..
regardless if you treat it as shred at loops or as catch-up wesker bound between loops, it performs worse at both those functionality. the catch-up for wolf is so lackluster that i found it to be very ineffective so much so that i just stay in bat form and follow survivor with increase m/s but this has other several negatives of being worse spirit minus the bat instant hit exploit that should be patched out.
So much so that I don't even think survivors should be invisible to you in this Form.
The invisible for survivors is good drawback because in theory, you should be able combine his wolf form and his bat form. it is that there so many other negatives that make this so challenging like….. super loud bat noises and cooldown's that make the form very cumbersome to use. Just imagine spirit having extremely loud whoosy sound in her ears… like she doesn't have that, why does he have that? you know? the dev really don't want bat form or wolf form to be useful assets to the killer with how they balanced these two forms.
wolf pounce is better than demo shred because of the awooo by default lets not kid our selves here.

I did not tunnel when I was a Killer main. I understand WANTING to, but it's not fun. People that tunnel are more interested in the victory screen than they are the journey that got them there. The whole reason I quit playing Killer was because I liked to play "fair" and "clean," and all it ever got me was flamed for losing games. Never once have I ever received a "thank you" for literally ignoring who my tunnel target would have been. That's why I go out of my way as a Survivor to thank Killers after they lose for having played "clean" or "fair."
In truth, tunneling/camping is more about avoiding the defeat screen than anything else. Gaining that leverage in the toxic postgame chat that you've won, which goes a lot farther than having lost. (And hiding chat is just burying your head in the sand. It might work for some people, but others still know it's going on.)
i resonate with this so much. its funny when I think about it typically the survivors who tend to flame are the ones I clearly went easy on and the ones who don't are ones who clowned me. I have always played for 12 hooks spreading them out the best I could.
When you don't main either role I don't see how you could play any other way. Though tbh I also don't feel like I need to win to have fun.

Basically soft cap means that even if you are per say 2100 MMR the game still matchmakes you as if you're 1600 MMR. Your actual MMR can keep going higher and higher but it will still always matchmake you around 1600.
also once you reach a certain point you can't drop below it anymore. You are perma stuck in a bracket you do not belong in, which can happen if you were carried past that point.

Never said that the SBMM works correctly or it is how it should be. All I said that OP is in the wrong MMR bracket
ya but we shouldn't be pointing that out because obviously with the broken mmr system players can't get to the right bracket. So saying something like that is kind of blaming the player when it isn't the players fault they can't get to where they need to be or rather should be.
