We went over the reasons back when he was initially reworked, but to keep it short, it's for the following reasons:

    1. Most people did not enjoy playing him. Having to wait 7 seconds before being able to hit someone was frustrating since there was nothing you could do. Other killers would be able to hit the survivor, but he would have to stand there and watch them run to a pallet or window without being able to do anything about it.
    2. He was confusing to play against unless you already knew what to do. Intentionally failing a skill check to wake up wasn't obvious unless you knew it going into the match.
    3. His power was just a lot of slowdown. The matches were long, but the killer wasn't anywhere near as threatening as others. This meant long chases and long generators, which wasn't very exciting for either side.
    4. Bit of a side note, but he was hardly ever played. In spite of the fond memories that pop up every now and then, hardly anyone was actually playing him before the rework.
    1. Watch where are they going and mindgame one way or another you may get a hit or eliminate pallet and if you not given such opportunity just leave them .
    2. You could also wake up other players .
    3. No. It meant killer could pick up a chase where he s going to have an opportunity of ending it in seconds.

And? That's totally fine. The only conflict that can't be aleviated is between survivors and killers. Survivors are fully capable of saying 'Hey I put this map' so then the other people know to not waste their map offerings.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1184816#Comment_1184816

Map offerings aren't weighted so putting the same one doesn't increase their chances of being picked. If you're going to tell me that 4 people put 4 different maps (incredibly rare) on top of your own map then that's damn near the same as having a random map chosen.

Where does it says so? I didnt know to be honest. Then i guess map offerings are good.

they don't know how to play killer so they complain and ask for nerfs to make their life easier instead of adapting and learning how this game works. no matter how you try to tell them the facts, they don't care because they want to have everything handed on a plate without having to do anything. sad but true

    Cause its horror movie fanboysπŸ˜„

People say that the old Freddy was boring but I've yet to see a new Freddy in a while. The meta on PS4 seems to be Hillbilly and Doctor. New Freddy is braindead easy to play which is why most of the killer mains praise the rework. Why learn to flick and curve with the chainsaw or hit hatchets, when you can spam snares around a loop and get a free hit with no effort.

I think its because those horror movie fanboys cant accept that in videogame they have to actually play those overpowered killers from the movies to win.

I'd take old Freddy any day over the new reworked Freddy

The amount of both pressure and mindgames he can offer to killer player what made him really fun and interesting to play .

That video i provided proves how interesting he was.

There is nothing wrong with gen speed. 80 seconds is slow enough.

Also keep in mind WHEN its 80 seconds to complete gen. Only when survivors are constantly sitting on gens so that way then if killer just force survivors to release M1 gens are going to take longer to fix. The longer survivors sitting on gens the greater gen speed they gain.

The Nea actually did have time to crouch and get the save, if you actually looked at the video or even my timestamps you can literally count how much time she had. Even in the worst case scenario, they could have simply traded and that would have given the team plenty of time to finish gens. Alternatively, if the Nea was so confident in looping that she would follow the killer around the map then why didn't a teammate go for the save while Nea had her distracted? Even if the team would lose some momentum with only one person working on a gen, as long as they got away from the basement they would have been fine. Letting a teammate get one-hooked is definitely not the play.

They didn't record the rounds they got dominated? Yikes, did you even watch any of the games they played because it sounds like you're just making stuff up now. They played on stream, they literally didn't have the option of not recording games even if they wanted to.

Again, tournaments don't mean much. They make their own custom rules; that alone makes tournament games mostly irrelevant when looking at balance in this game. That aside, just because matches have the word "tournament" on them doesn't mean they're high quality games, and I think I more than proved that point in my earlier comment.

Conclusion: the game is imbalanced because there s a best of the best swf team on comms that wont do any mistake eventualy. Nice.

If you know those teams and how consistently they compete in tournaments and win it does say much in their favour.

In that game they sold him out while Nea tried to get hag in a chase to let others gen rush as long as possible.

I literally stated the opposite. An easy counter was found. There was a Survivor counter for Freddy, SEVERAL counters for Freddy, but literally none for Freddy to counter Survivors.

Self-Care? Coulorophobia doesn't affect Skill Checks.

Exploding generator? They've already run off it.

Aura reading outside of TR? Like I said, he has to be looking at you, so lockers or stealthing while in his TR.

LEGION can do well in high rank games. BUBBA can do well in red ranks. Just because 1% of a particular killer's player base has found the secret to optimally playing a killer, doesn't make them a strong killer.

Clown in theory is a strong killer, but over time people learnt how to counter him. Same with old Freddy. That and the myriad of nerfs over time made him literally the weakest killer in the game for an overwhelming majority if players.

So? does it mean you cant find counter to the opposite side playstyle?

  • Can weak killer do well like this ? This is from tournament play. First two games has Freddy as a killer.

    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=VNBRSKkobqs&t=229s

I'll pick apart this video. At 2:30 the Nea is still able to see the Hag when she stopped to place traps. At 3:15 the Nea activates one of the traps despite knowing that the Hag slowed down to place traps earlier. At 3:50 the Nea ran away from several amazing pallet loops. The Hag didn't break any of those pallets and didn't place a single trap at any of those loops yet the Nea still ran away from them and scored the Hag a free hit. Notice while this chase is happening that the teammate has already hit second stage and no one is going to save her. Also notice that despite over 3 minutes having passed, only 2 gens are done. The Hag has only chased 2 survivors so far, so what are the other 2 survivors doing? Either they can't hit Ruin skillchecks or someone is running around looking for Ruin. This definitely doesn't suggest high level play either way. At 4:18 you can see a lit up totem next to a generator that is being worked on. Yikes. At 4:38 the hooked survivor died and was thus one-hooked despite the killer not camping them. I have never even seen this happen in solo queue, it should never be happening in a tournament game. At 5:06 Nea attempts to bodyblock for Feng and then just randomly stops, letting the Feng go down and get hooked. The Nea could have been working on a gen but decided to mess around instead. At 5:45 Claudette sprint bursted yet still managed to be in range of the Hag. This was just horrible movement, she did not have to get hit there at all. At 6:16 Hag finds Nea. Nea could have unhooked her teammate with all the time the Hag spent with the Claudette and placing traps and breaking the gen but nope, she was just chilling out the whole time that was happening I guess. At 7:30 Feng ran to a tile where the pallet was broken, this is just incredibly poor communication on her teams part. The Nea failed to bodyblock properly earlier while the Feng was two-hooked and either didn't have DS or she missed the skillcheck and she dies on hook. We find out later that the Hag was using PWYF! Do you know why this is significant? The Nea was feeding her stacks of PWYF the entire game. Every time the Nea showed up in front of the Hag to either get her attention or fail a bodyblock, she gave her a stack. Despite how poorly these survivors played, they still managed to finish all the gens with Ruin up and 2 people escaped! Imagine how poorly this would have turned out for the Hag if the survivors actually played well.

The next match is just embarrassing. The Hag hardly got anything done at all and it looked like an easy win for the survivors up until the point where there was only 1 gen left to do and... the survivors somehow managed to 3 gen themselves on Coldwind. Against Hag. The first survivor gets one-hooked (again), the second survivor gets two-hooked and tunneled out of the game after getting unhooked (again), and the Hag just wins from there because of the 3 gen. Oddly enough, the survivors could have gotten themselves out of that 3 gen pretty easily by crouching up the stairs to the gen upstairs or when the Hag left the 3 gen after slugging the third guy. In fact, the last 3 survivors could have just ditched the gens entirely and looked for a key to escape via hatch if they wanted to. However, the easiest solution is to simply not let Hag get the 3 gen. It didn't look like she was trying especially hard to secure that endgame 3 gen, it could have very easily been avoided and it definitely SHOULD have been avoided considering that they're on comms.

And that is my long observation of the video. The survivors didn't play well, but the killer didn't do all too well either. Granted, I think Hag did okay considering the map she was playing on but the survivors played very, very poorly. I definitely don't think this is at all representative of even red rank play and this definitely isn't gameplay I would look at when balancing the game.

Please don't misunderstand my intentions with this, I didn't make this comment to undermine or berate anyone. This simply isn't representative of high level play, that's all. Marth's depip squad is a lot more in line with what I expect from a good swf group. Even if you want to argue that survivors playing in solo queue is fine, the game is definitely not balanced with swf in mind because 4 survivors playing optimally is crazy to go against and pops up more frequently than you imply.

If Nea would crouch to get a save wasting so much time hag would still get to basement cause she was already there . You missed that?

Depip Squad is a lot more in line with what you expect from good swf group ? Because they didnt record the rounds where they get dominated. Have you seen tournament of them against tournament monsters?

Apparently he was unfun for both sides. Survivors, especially new Survivors, were irritated because he was invisible and Killers were frustrated because they need to wait 7 seconds until they are able to hit someone.

But from quite a lot of Forum Posts, I feel that still a lot of Killers and Survivors dislike Freddy, even tho for different reasons than before.

Where s the proof of that . Its a known thing that OLD Freddy was considered the weakest killer.

    @Saylia said:

Hello, Saylia here! This post is a bit ranty, I made it on Youtube because someone felt Freddy was perfectly fine, and in some situations overall really, really strong. So here for you today, I have my rant with some profanity edited out in order to respect the forums.

    Without any further adieu:

A small snip-it about me and my love for the sweater guy:
Rank 1 Freddy main, 1.5 thousand hours here with 800 on Freddy.
Watched the Nightmare on Elm street movies since a wee girl, absolutely love the franchise and his amazing concept.
Please understand that all of my thoughts, opinions, and emotions, come from the perspective of a player who reaches rank 1 every single season and plays there until rank reset.

What's my problem with him right now, even with how much I love him, and I love dead by daylight?

Freddy, with the best add-ons, is a Trapper without Traps, A wraith without his power, he doesn't teleport, doesn't have a chainsaw, he literally just hits people. His power lets him hit people. Alright so lets think about it a bit more, his power is a bit more than that, right?
    1. Reverse Deerstalker
    2. Aura reading outside terror radius
    3. Reduced action speed
    4. He's invisible.

1 is nice because you get what is essentially a free perk. You can play around it, and it's a good mechanic for him, but this does nothing for the chase, and sees exactly zero use outside of hunting down your 4th kill, ignoring D-strike, otherwise you'd just pick them and hook them.

    1. This is literally only useful if you lost them in the middle of the chase. If this happened, you have to run back after them, from which they have more than enough time to reach the next loop, or with self care (the perk you should assume every survivor has) you may just have to wait a nice 7 seconds right after that if they got a lucky ass skill check. Sleeping multiple survivors? Great. You can only chase one. They'll break out or get woken up by a friend in T-minus 10 seconds and they're back to work.

    2. This literally almost never applies ever. If for some reason your RNG is the absolute worst, at the very worst you're still making SOME progress on that generator or self care, until that skillcheck comes out. Your options for waking up? Find a gen. Be injured. Or Find someone awake, and that is extremely often that one of those are available to you. But late game you dont have gens right? Yeah except at that point you've reached late game and that's not what a killer wants to see. And even then... gens are done. How is that action speed much more helpful?

    3. The one, and only, true, power he has. He is invisible. This makes stealth HARDER. Not IMPOSSIBLE. I've absolutely not been able to find someone as sweater boy, sometimes it literally just happens and you dont want to waste too much time looking. Being invisible opens up some key mind-game potential that other killers don't have access to, which is sweet, and fun. What's wrong with that then? Exactly that. It's a mind game. Killers, can LOSE mind games. If the survivor thinks about what Freddy is doing, and uses his "reappearance time" to see where he's heading, it's not hard to be in the Freddy's mind and juke it.

Two cute things I've learned to use to my advantage as a Freddy main: Survivors attempting to do cute corner jukes or window jukes always get smacked because they're glowing obnoxiously bright blue, and his power can be used as a small scanning tool in the event of corn or extremely dark characters against extremely dark terrain, I'm looking at you bloody Claudette in the corner.

And this is all for.. being able to hit them like a normal killer can... lol

So what else can survivors do? alright other than that sexy self care everyone's running, at least he still gets that first hit right? It's guaranteed!
    Mmmph... unless
    2. they reach a pallet and do the smart thing and time it
    3. they pop that sprint burst and fly off like a bullet so that first hit literally doesn't happen
    4. that awesome adrenaline pops off and they wake up, forcing you to sleep them once again
    5. Dead hard that incoming hit just in time if they know the timing

This is on top of D-strike, Ultra rares, which ALREADY make the life of NORMAL killers difficult.

Then how about people rushing your hook saves and running out the gate before you touch them? How about those two bugs in his kit, where his auto-aim will target awake survivors. Or that bug where if you swing before they enter dream state you'll blade wipe anyways if they enter it during your hit.

Bugs can't be counted? Alright sorry we'll stick to the intended gameplay, what about his ability to watch you work on generators and totems for a solid 5 seconds before the survivor bothers to move because you're annoying them, that's intended gameplay right baby? Awh man they got a skillcheck in that 5 seconds? Dang. Hope you enjoy waiting 5 more. They popped another? you get to sit there longer. Meanwhile the other 3 are on their own separate gens while you pray to RNG gods this guy stops getting so many freaking skillchecks.

If you lose to Freddy, you played bad. Somehow, or another, you messed up. Does that mean you can't do good with Freddy? Nope. Even at rank 1, yes, you can in fact 4K.
And heres a couple reasons why:

    • Survivors make mistakes. ALL killers punish mistakes.
    • Not all survivors take the game SO SERIOUSLY BRO. people play to have fun, it's pretty safe to say half the people at rank 1 are just like me and you, trying to talk to people in chat and hang out
    • Survivors don't like Freddy, or never go against a Freddy, and find him to be awkward because you encounter 1 Freddy after every 30th Hillbilly.

But what happens when you find that group of rank 1 survivors who know his mechanics, play correctly, use the perks aforementioned, or otherwise just play with their 1,000+ hours of survivor game knowledge.

    You'll wish you played Nurse.

This has been Saylia. I hope I've changed your mind if you thought Freddy was fine. If not, I respect that, please let me know why! ^_^

PS: If I had to give him love, I'd remove survivors being able to touch objectives (Gens, totems, exits) during strictly the dream transition. With over 800 hours of love for my sweater guy, that's all I've ever wanted, anything else would be a blessing from the gods.

PPS: The "Black Box" add-on is a meme and not ultra rare status.

SWF use to have an indicator because all the survivor's would spawn in at the same time in the lobby. BHVR got rid of it because SWF didn't like that because the killer would play sweaty and they "weren't having fun". Hate to say like that but the way the game is now, killer's aren't suppose to have fun.

It was changed for that reason? Why you think so?

  • @AhoyWolf said:

Because most Killers would just lobby dodge if there was a SWF-Indicator, but I wouldn't mind if that SWF-Indicator was at the endgame screen tho.

You re just bad on using them.

The time it takes to heal often outweighs any benefit it would grant. All it does at its current numbers is heavily discourage self care, which is already not very good efficiency wise, or have very specific power interactions with killers like the plague who heavily discourage players from healing anyway so theyre very likely to keep the full benefit for a decent amount of time. Meanwhile perks like We'll Make It pretty much laugh at it.

There are only about 15 perks mostly used on killers while the other 60 something are untouched because they are unviable or just not good. Most survivor perks can be used regardless of it and still work and need number tweaks, not full perk reworks.

If you cant get most out of them doesnt mean everyone cant. Im so sick of people trying to change the game because it doesnt work well for them.

"X is overpowered? just take Y bro!" is the number one answer to any balancing issue in this game. Hell, even colorblindness or auditory problems don't get accessibility options, they get to take up perk slots or even addon slots. With only 4 and 2 slots respectively, it becomes incredibly difficult to actually make viable builds outside of a small pool. Its not that synergy can be too strong, its that synergy is too necessary.

is too necessary to give you huge advantage ? Its worth it and can decide the outcome pretty much easily.

  • @Ryuhi said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1186226#Comment_1186226

It wasn't even OP, they were just afraid of how much it would stack with increasing heal speeds (not even any other speeds, the concern was apparently about healing alone)

Would have been a painfully obvious fix to just make it something like 10% on everything but healing, which is 5% instead, but why do that when you can just keep it as garbage tier that only a few killers can attempt to make useful in very focused builds? πŸ€”

It wasnt even 10 % if im not wrong it was more. Focused builds can decide the outcome if played out right.

  • @Cheers said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1186226#Comment_1186226

I think of it effected everyone regardless then it would be op, but if one person was injured, that 10% would only effect that injured player.

Not bad but then you removing possibility to have 16% debuff effect.

  • Here s true reason why it was nerfed:

rank 20 players couldnt hit greats and even players with over 1000 hours cant hit greats as well all the time.

It was bad for business to having new players come and being not able to deal with the main survivors objective.

Break ruin? New people cant even find gens not to mention hex totems.

Tap gen? If unintented mechanic is the only way to counter ruin there s clearly something wrong with the game.

So mostly because it would push new players away. There were too many complaints to remove OLD ruin.

Well, of course you won't find any if you keep invoking a No True Scotsman and say "no, those Rank 1 players with thousands of hours of experience don't count". (also, giving a Survivor team a second chance in public matches is in no way an indication of being "unskilled" ESPECIALLY if the player in question 4Ks anyway)

It doesn't matter if they try to balance it out for both sides, I'm sure they do, but when you have that many rules that change the game's perk meta, how players approach a match, and how quickly matches end, it's no longer the same game of Dead By Daylight and is FAR less useful to analyse the overall state of the game.

As another comparison, Team Fortress 2's most popular competitive mode is 6 versus 6, even though pretty much all regular matches involve far more players. Even though this is also 100% balanced between teams, both sides only having 6 players to work with dramatically changes which roles and weapons are the most powerful.

"the most important part which is gameplay doesnt change" Maybe the chasing mechanics and so on don't change but the flow of a match is THE single most important thing about this game and that changes incredibly.

Also, considering Otzdarva was namedropped, and you seemingly made some kind of distinction between English/Russian streamers, I'll throw this out there:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0KppqkxnIo

This video features footage of him winning a tournament game and he dissects the match play-by-play explaining his decisions. (and, as a bonus, has a lot of examples of how Otzdarva deviates from normal strategies because of the tournament's ruleset) Has Otzdarva now met your standards for being a "real" high-level player, or do true Scotsmen still never put sugar in their porridge?

That is an unusual tournament that ban survivors from doing gens while injured is stupid though id like to watch it as well if you could provide the whole tournament in other thread .

That part from tournament i provided doesnt have any rules that prevents you from doing something and most rules just balance out unskillful play from both sides. Like killer cant use perk like "Haunted grounds".

Otzdarva is definetely a good player.

  • @Cheers said:

Because it's in the game. Also some killers completely counter infinites. The select few don't have any power against them, but most killers can do something.

    Who'd you main?

Still no answer. Op is just biased towards killers . Close this thread.

  • If you cant beat good survivors that doesnt mean everyone cant. Git gud!

  • While other people like me use plenty of perks variations which change their strategy and they still win most of the times if their strat played out.

Where s the proof of you just not playing bad. You can t provide good points then just git gud !

But seriously, I mean I could but I think you can see plenty from watching the streamers that are already going, guys like Otz, Tru, and others to see what the game looks like at high levels.

I think the meta right now is quick games and killers do have to adjust. Generators just go fast now and you have to be prepared and ready to counter that. Pop Goes the Weasel, Thrilling Tremors, Corrupt Intervention, whatever it takes. You also have to be able to tactically slug when needed to occupy survivors with picking their people up and getting them off generators.

Playing meta killers is also more critical than ever sadly and some killers suffer as a result. If you just adore playing Freddy, Spirit, Nurse, or Hillbilly you're in for a good time, because they are viable on every map.

I think changing Hex: Ruin was the right choice I just think the timing was wrong. Do it after you change some of these really bad maps, make them more balanced, and I think the game benefits. Doing it now and I think you made a lot of killers just have such a horrible time it's hurting the killer player base.

I don't personally have a problem with second chance perks as they do some level of anti-tunneling and anti-camping work. About the only thing I wish was that DS would cancel after 30 seconds instead of one minute if I hook someone else.

By the way have you seen this?

Those popular english streamers wont do things like this it was just a joke. But if they would it would prove whether someone of them is good or just trash. While russian streamers they do compete in tournaments. People like True wont compete ever because either they know they suck or they are just too afraid of losing.Shame!

Sorry, I will have to say that the gameplay changes in DbD Tournaments ARE significant enough that they need to be heavily taken into account.

The #1 thing is that the goal is to earn BP, NOT to kill Survivors or escape the match. That change alone hugely changes how you view the game's Perks and which should be effective. Enduring + Spirit Fury is a good combo in regular play, suicide in a tournament, for example.

I also don't know about this specific tournament's rules, but I have heard that there's also limitations on Survivors gen repairs to avoid genrushing, which is REALLY huge. IIRC, don't the Tournament rules restrict the first few Generator repairs to Healthy survivors only?

Plus, I've also heard about things like anti-tunnelling/camping rules, so if someone gets unhooked you have to respect it and go for the rescuer, so Perks like Borrowed Time aren't really a thing in tournaments... Are you starting to see the problem here with how much some tournament rules change how the game's played?

Tournaments are not useless for information on the state of the game but I would highly recommend watching standard, high rank public matches instead of tournament play for game analysis. You can analyse tournaments and get good takeaways from them, but you NEED to constantly take into account the differing player motivations from standard play and the limitations of the tournament's rules, and the game's overall balance state certainly can't really be determined with all the artificial restrictions.

At least, beyond criticising the game for apparently needing so many artificial restrictions for people to be capable of making Dead by Daylight tournaments that are fun to watch. Things like map restrictions aren't a big deal but DbD tournaments often have lists of artifiical limitations as long as your arm.

No its not like that about rules. They try to balance it out for both sides. Still the most important part which is gameplay doesnt change.

Standard high rank games? Where ? I highly doubt you can find any.

  • Reversed bear trap turns on once gen is finished . Keep that in mind. Also trap timer is paused when you downed.

  • Obsession has downside but for that you need to bring obsession perk.

The Hex is destroyed 15 minutes into the game. If 15 minutes of footage isn't enough to show you what it does idk what is chief. I'm sorry I couldn't find a 20 minute long game where Lullaby persists for the entire duration.

I thought it was ruin but it was huntress lullaby

  • Which proves that even if BHVR increase gen time or add another objective bad killers wont do any better.

    (Not my video)

Here is a 20 minute long video of a survivor facing the perk Huntress Lullaby. You'll see that as the stacks increase the skillchecks warning time decreases.

Why there s no notification of hex persisiting in trial?

  • I get 4 kills every game in solo . I guess killer is too easy.

  • I dont think he can be op. He can shoot you only within about 20 meters which cant be increased with addons. Learn how to play against.

What i learned so far is that you shouldnt waste pallet unless you injured against him as he can easily injure you.

One change I've always thought would be great is it changes from 3/3.5/4% to 8/9/10% but it only effects survivors that are injured.

That would be too strong. The current 4% is fine . It was like 10% before but it didnt go live because it was op.

  • I like the idea but solo play hardly can be equal to top tier killers.

    P.S. bbq is op?

  • @MrPenguin said:

Yeah, one of my friends stopped playing entirely because, in their words "Survivor is too easy and I get bored. The gens pop way too fast and I'm waiting 15 minuets or more for a very short match. Killer is too frustrating because I don't feel like I can do anything unless the survivors are all just bad. So I'm just gonna stop playing."

There s no way someone thinks solo survivor is easy. At this point you just lying.

  • Why would someone waste so much time stalking trying to stream snipe you ? Change your name .

DS should be changed next way: if you start to do something towards progressing the game like repairing generator cleansing totems healing others ds deactivates simple as that.

As for generators time its totally fine except bonus skillchecks. Maps should be resized to make them a bit smaller. Small maps are fine im mostly talking about maps like Coldwind farm etc.

I agree with you most killer players just need to get good .
