Hey, wow, that's what I've been saying for months.
She's beatable only through intense coordination and even then, it takes so long that few teams are going to bother.
The penalty for DC'ing is less than the SM game 💀

But you also cant use the stats from like 8 Months ago. Of course Nightlight isnt 100% accurate, but I think overall better then the original from last year
It definitely isn't.
Nightlight is exclusive, not well-known and it only applies to a tiny portion of the playerbase. This naturally skews it.
The stats we received last year ARE outdated, but they are the only useable data we have.

I wouldnt look at these old stats. Everyone still says its 60% killrate, but these are old stats. I look at Nightlight for stats and my stats as survivor say I escape 57,5% of my games and have a Killrate of 87,68%, but if you look at the overall stats the Killrate is at 52,2%.
So to answer your question. Yes I do Escape 40% or more of the games.
You can't use nightlight to extrapolate for general stats.
I don't mind it for personal stats, as I understand it is a compiler, but for general playerbase stats it has too many issues to be used.

I feel like we'd just end up with Feng getting her equal attention cake and cosplaying every Killer.

We don't exactly have a wealth of controller settings on pc either, we have the option to use mouse and keyboard though which takes the sting outta that issue. I can't necessarily speak to the issues of difficult to play killers on console all that much because the killers I play the most are actually very controller friendly. I know Singularity's dog water for controller users and I remember some complaints about Trickster being a bit of a bear on console due to his recoil in Main Event. Outside of those cases and maybe the flick gang most killers are controller friendly.
I can't speak to console specific bugs as that's not my area of expertise for this game. I know of general long standing bugs that exist across all platforms, but little about console specific bugs outside of things related to netplay or stability.
Singularity is playable, at least, but he's very clunky and difficult.
Trickster isn't playable.
Wesker, Oni, Nurse, Blight, Bubba, Deathslinger, Demo, Pyramid Head, Twins, Nemesis and Pinhead are all either capped out on Console or have certain skill ceilings that aren't reachable.
-
It's fairly large.
You'll never reach Killers like Blight, Nurse or Oni's full potential on Console. You don't really need to, but if that bothers you like it bothers me, you're eagerly waiting for cross-progression.
and money to buy a good pc

I wouldn't say they treat them horribly by any stretch of the imagination.
This game doesn't run that great on pc which has variable configurations, so to expect it to run particularly well on ps4 and xboxone is a bit of a stretch. That isn't an excuse, but like both of those platforms are kinda known to be issue-laden messes unless you're really optimizing your game to run at the low-spec minimum. Switch is criminally under powered because Nintendo is Nintendo and seems to love shipping underpowered consoles. Ps5 and Series X are in a better place hardware wise.
They kinda do.
There's numerous bugs that have never been fixed. We still haven't gotten controller settings and BHVR continues to design Killers that are extremely difficult to play on Console.
That's not even mentioning the monstrosity that is optimization .

The first point I can agree with. Removing DC would increase the odds that bots come into play. But I still think there should be some safe guards in place to punish escessive DC'ing. It may be ok to DC when the killer is playing super obnoxious / toxic, but some survivors will also DC for the stupidest, most miniscule reasons. That shouldn't be encouraged.
The other two points are more like wishful thinking for me. Fading over time is just one possibility, some players might also develope a bad habit of dc'ing regularly against certain killers, maps, when their team misplays etc. And if you are burnt out from the game, you should take a break and / or reassess your expectations from the game. I cannot see how DC'ing more should help you when you are fed up from the game.
Instead of this "wishfull thinking", free DC's might be able to mitigate the impact of "unfun" playstyles by the killer. E.g. when the killer hardcore tunnels at five gens, all survivors could just DC on the spot. The killer would then have to play out his unfun game against bots (or win instantly, but I would prefer the first). That MIGHT nudge them to play less unfun in the future. But comes with the collateral that some killers might be totally unplayable just bc they are deemed "unfun". Such a thing does not only suck for the killer player not getting to play a proper game with their choosen character, but also for survivors who do not mind playing against that unfun killer, but get deserted by the other survivors.
For example, Skull Merchant is hated quite universally, so I would expect many DC's in such matches. But I'm not minding her too much and wouldn't DC, but that might get me 3-bot-games whenever I face a Skully. That would spoil my fun more in the long run than my teammates playing out the game with gritted teeth.
There's no easy solution, honestly.
Btw: You points are a near replica of Scott Junds opinion in one of his last vids. Which made me think, whether you are the REAL Scott Jund, in disguise :D ?
I can assure you, I'm not in my thirties lol
I think we shouldn't let people know when they're playing against bots until the match is over.

I think you bring up some good points, and it sounds to me like we have two different schools of thought.
You) Accept rage-quitting for the inevitability that it is, and lean into it with a system that neither punishes nor rewards. A.K.A AI backfilling is the future of gaming
Me) Reject rage-quitting, despite its inevitability, and enforce a system that values quality over quantity. A.K.A Make A Gamer Selfless Again
Apologies if that feels like I’m putting words in your mouth
I do foresee the alleviated burn-out. DBD struggles with the vicious cycle of “hate begets hate,” and bots present an opportunity to salvage a previously soured experience.
It is such a question mark right now, though. When people play PvP games, they like to know that they are playing against real people.
It is difficult to predict how the community will react—and it may even take several months to really make waves one way or another.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3488419#Comment_3488419
Totally agree, crime does not fit the punishment. Even for repeat offenders, anything beyond 2hrs is pretty egregious
I mean, you could solve a multitude of issues at once by removing names from the lobby and in the match. Just have it be "Steve Harrington 03" in the lobby and in-game, then reveal the true name of the player post-match. You could also remove the lobby entirely and just have people in-game have their names hidden.
That would stop people from freaking out about bot matches, I bet you won't even know 90% of the time if you aren't looking for it.
I do agree that above all else, each path forward requires time. That time is bound to be very painful in either scenario.

I can think of like four not knight/sm killers that have the same gameplay loop.
Its just how killer powers are designed now.
The issue is not entirely with that design, as long as you have the viable option to use other strategies.
Knight can use Call To Arms and snipe. Artist can do the same.
SM doesn't have any viable playstyles outside of her 3-gen.

These are all nice ideas. But it doesn't account for the fact that without a penalty, survivors tend to DC the moment they're inconvenienced or begin to lose, or simply encounter a killer they don't like. This will royally screw up MMR, as survivors can DC the moment they're sure to die, or even when they suspect they won't escape, and they will avoid all negative MMR, catapulting survivors up past the soft cap in no time and voiding the entire system. That's simply never going to be allowed to happen.
I think there's other ways around it. Instead of having an escalating DC penalty, you instead have a consecutive DC penalty. As in, if you DC twice in a row, you get a penalty, but if you break up your DCs with full games, you don't. Or you simply allow a couple extra 'free' DCs per day, so instead of starting at 1m and then 5m (essentially 2 free DCs a day), you make the first one free and give players 3 free DCs per day. If you're DCing more than that, you really shouldn't be playing at all.
We don't know what players tend to do when the penalty being removed isn't new.
There is no winning with the MMR system. If you don't lose MMR, you encounter the problem you mentioned. If you do lose MMR, you get people purposefully dropping mmr.

you would think that by looking at numbers but no. from my experience, skull merchant is better after post-ptb changes. her speed boosts are not less conditional and they last much longer. She does rely on 3 gens but only against 0.1% of survivors. I have already looped good knights and I know how knight plays because I play killer. A lot of killer rely on add-on to be effective good teams though many survivor will just call them killer crutches.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3488181#Comment_3488181
subjective opinion. Legion macro strategies. You mean looking at deep wound UI and holding-w vs against legion power. such a difficult macro strategy to learn. spreading out and doing gens. sounds like a tough strategy.
There's a difference between someone like Demo needing Barb's Glasses which is Yellow and SM needing two Purple's to have mediocre-bad anti-loop

I am not saying it does not promote 3 gens. I am saying the killer has chase potencial with add-on's. if you want to talk about very little skill. Looping weak m1 killer as survivor.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3488155#Comment_3488155
this is way too oversimplified of playing killer. the skill in looping knight is knowing how to shift-w guards. I know that sounds weird to say that there is skill in how to shift-w but there is large difference between a skilled survivor shift-w at correct time and doing in the correct area's vs randomly doing it without rhyme or reason. Your over simplifying knight's skill-ceiling and survivor's gameplay towards him. Needlessly to say, The knight is weak killer when you are good looping as survivor.
Oversimplification applies to skull merchant as well. I would rate skull merchant as "Clown" but better. her skill-cap in the chase with add-on is knowing how to use the bursts of speed to get hits. it is similar skill-cap to clown, except clown is weak while skull merchant is rewarding.
Clearly, you haven't seen me play Knight lol.
SM is a worse Clown because her speed boost is conditional, her slowdown is conditional on the Survivor staying in a loop and is conditional upon a PURPLE add-on.

@H2H said:
I agree with OP wholeheartedly. Over a long enough chase, the killer should always catch the survivor. It doesn’t mean the survivor shouldn’t be able to delay that long enough to where a skilled killer will bail and go chase someone else.
And yes, there are still true infinites in the game. The SM base in Sheltered Woods can spawn at least one if not two.

this sounds like major misinformation. skull merchant is a decent chasing killer. she is not worse then knight. knight is inefficient chasing killer that relies on zoning and is easily countered by shift-w play. Skull merchant has chase potencial in her current design and does not rely on 3 gens. Like all killers, she is stronger when she 3 gens. The changes post-ptb improved her chase extensively. She is not a a nurse-level chaser but she can hold her own especially with add-on's. your 3 gen complaints on skull merchant are like complaining that bubba is good at facecamping hooks. 3 gen and facecamping hooks are part of the game but they are not everything the killer can do.
lol.
Here's Skull Merchant's chase power.
Put Drone at loop.
Wait for Drone to activate.
Survivor leaves loop.
Repeat until you catch up and get a hit.
Repeat until down.
OR
Put Drone at loop.
Wait for Drone to activate.
Survivor doesn't leave loop.
They die.
That's it. It's just a worse version of Knight. Knight plays the same way but his Guards have some versatility. You can waste time, get hits, interrupt healing, snipe people, kick them off of gens etc etc all from across the map.
If not, he plays the same way, except better because you have a second Killer chasing Survivors.
Put Guard in loop.
Survivors must leave loop.
Get hit.
Repeat until down.
OR
Put Guard in loop.
Survivor doesn't leave loop.
They die.

Can I ask how you believe the removal of the DC penalty would improve the current situation?
I understand your position of "lets try it and see what happens," but as @Trollinmon pointed out, we've already been down that path and the disconnects spike every single time.
There is zero love lost between players in this game, which is why no one feels obligated to see their game through. So I am very curious to know how enabling "my fun isn't your responsibility" could at all be beneficial.
Not the guy you replied to, heads up.
For one, if DC penalties are gone people will be replaced by a bot. Right now, more people will kill themselves on hook because that means there won't be a penalty for them. If that's removed, they'll AFK. If that's bannable, they'll throw. You get the picture there. With the Bot DC system, you want people to DC because that means it'll spawn a bot. If they don't DC, no bot.
Secondly, most players never experienced DBD without a penalty, so there's a novelty factor in play. It's a shiny new toy for them to play with, but that will fade over time.
Lastly, I think it'll help burn-out. Survivor teammates are happier because they have a chance to play, Killer is happy because they have some sort of a challenge and can still get points/achievements and the DC'd player is happy because they got out of an unfun match, meaning they'll be less likely to DC in the future after being forced to endure horrid match after horrid match.

@Krazzik said:
Bloodlust is still needed because there are still certain loops in the game that are just too strong for survivor. Yes, when those are fixed you can remove bloodlust but they're never going to be fixed. BHVR has shown they can't make balanced maps anymore and even when they 'fix' maps they can still remain in a bad state. They release new maps that are badly designed so how could they 'fix' a map that has issues they clearly can't see.
Regarding Bloodlust 2 and 3, I can understand the arguement to remove them more. If you -need- to get into BL2 or 3 to be able to catch survivors than you're going against survivors who are well above your skill level. Unfortunatly matchmaking in this game is garbage and semi-decent killers frequently get matched against really good loopers. Without the higher tiers of bloodlust they'd be unable to get a single hook in many of these games, and that's just a terrible feeling.
Bloodlust 2 and 3 existing isn't going to mean the killer will win these games, they wont, because chases will take far too long and the gens will pop in no time. However, if it gives them a couple more hooks or a single kill that they otherwise wouldn't have been able to get, I see it as the killer's version of hatch. It takes some of the sting out of getting stomped.
Without the higher tiers of bloodlust they'd be unable to get a single hook in many of these games, and that's just a terrible feeling.
With BL2 or BL3, it's possible they can win and that would raise their MMR, causing more frequent bad matches. Sounds horrible, but you kind of want them to lose so that they at least have a better chance of a fair match.
-
Skull Merchant's design is completely untenable. Without her 3-gen, she's a worse version of Knight, who is himself a worse Artist. With her 3-gen, she's the most unhealthy Killer the game has ever had. A Killer that can hold lobbies hostage for an hour is NOT a good design. The worst part of it is, no matter what you buff on her, her 3-gen gets stronger.
This feedback was given IMMEDIATELY on the PTB and BHVR made it worse coming out of the PTB.
To top it off, her sound design is pretty bad. Her music is just Ghostface Washing Machine 2.0, her visual design looks like an Apex Legends character and her lore is...disappointing, to say the least. Couple all of that with the DM mains and you've managed to make a Killer more hated than OG Legion.
She needs to be scrapped and completely reworked ala Freddy. She needs an entirely new kit and considering the damage she is doing to the game, she should be killswitched or removed until that rework is ready.
You are allowed to like a Killer with bad and problematic design. I like Legion, I enjoy playing Legion. I also don't excuse his design issues, but they aren't on the same level as Dull Merchant literally being able to hold people in matches AND that's pretty much her only remotely viable playstyle. She's the only Killer who can do that and she certainly attracts...a type of player, not all of them are bad, of course, but a lot of them are unpleasant.

wraith and blight both have huge speed that they can use before the chase. wraith is labeled as not strong and blight is loved by killer players for his ability to counter shift-w before chase and use his mobility in chase to get downs. you make sound these killer's are busted with how you describe the mechanic.
Healing still looks pretty rewarding. it is just difficult to heal in a lot of cases in my opinion.
Wraith has some form of a warning before he smacks you (but he's still very strong in this current meta) and Blight is literally the strongest Killer in the game. Healing would be REQUIRED and considering how self-healing is almost non-viable and team healing is pretty risky, this is a horrid suggestion.
With your suggestions, Blight would be moving at 260% ms and Wraith at 180% ms without any add-ons. With add-ons Wraith would move almost 200% ms and Blight would be chilling at 300% ms on his final Rush.
This suggestion does not work.

Empathy doesn’t solve the chronic DC problem that plagues this game.
That Bubba was wrong to do what he did, but his behavior doesn’t excuse the fact that the absence of regulation creates chaos.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3487860#Comment_3487860
The system doesn’t flag that behavior—other players do.
There is no “evidence” to submit when a player disconnects. No proof that they left out of malice.
Whereas AFKing and throwing can be documented by other players and submitted to BHVR for review.
Empathy starts conversations.
Demonizing the other side does nothing except divide people further. Trying to understand goes a long way.

That is the answer. The killer isn't making you unable to play the game by tunneling you out. The chases you had where in fact part of the game. If you are dying so quickly then it means the killer was outplaying you.
This is just simply part of the game that will always exist as long as the game is one where survivors can be eliminated. If being eliminated bothers you so much then maybe DBD isn't the pvp game for you.
Are you making a point or do you genuinely not get it?
-
Half of the arguments here are so lacking empathy that all I can hear is the Bubba streamer I played against who bled me out after two of my teammates DC'd and I tried to let go on hook, then got unhooked, and then got hump teched for 4 minutes. Avter the match he was speaking all kinds of things about how Survivors should be banned for 2 months for trying to get out of a game, how dare they not want to play with him and the classic "your fun isn't my responsibility"
Yeah buddy, the "babyrage Survivor dc counter" you have on your stream tipped me off to what kind of player I'm dealing with.
That's all I can think about looking at some of the replies here.

The DC penalty has been removed on several occasions. We know what happens. It's not good.
Dc's go up, hook suicides, AFK's and throwing players go down.
That's pretty much exactly what you want in this system. A bot won't replace those players who suicide, AFK or just throw. It will replace people who DC.
It's also fairly likely that the DC penalty being removed has a novelty factor. 99% of people probably weren't around when the game didn't have penalties, so it's a new shiny toy for them. That will fade after time.

Everyone seems to think what their opinion on DC penalty removal from both sides is correct (no one is changing anyone's mind form what I have noticed) but no one really truly knows what would happen. They can only assume and speculate. I think after this next update and a month has passed, BHVR should remove DC for a period of time - like a week or two, nothing crazy. Then see what happens. I'm honestly mixed on it because I really don't know what will happen and I can see where both sides are coming from. Lets do a trial run of it.
When I played PTB, DC penalty is removed (it's like that for all PTBs) and I didn't even noticed someone DC'd and a bot was playing until the end. I will say bots are a lot better than they were when first introduced.
I think that'd be a good experiment.

You already have a basekit anti-tunnel measure in the form of BT, and survivors are already weaponizing it to take hits off hook for their unhooker. Maps are already saturated with safe pallets and safe loops enough. If the killer hits you off hook (whether you have OTR or not), you have a speedboost and the killer is stuck in recovery animation, letting you make it to the next tile to waste more time and let your team do gens. If the killer tries to wait out BT and you have OTR, you're effectively playing with 3 S-tier chase perks for the next 80s when they decide to hit you, not to mention your unhooker can take a hit for you as well.
Tunneling can be addressed when survivors can't finish all 5 gens in 3 minutes without any speed perks or items. If survivors can rush their objective, killer should be able to rush theirs as well.
You shouldn't be losing 5 gens in 3 minutes.

This is true. It is more difficult on console with some killers that require precise movements and aiming: trickster, huntress, Oni, etc, which does require more practice. Unfortunately, not a lot of people are willing to put in the time sink to get better, which is understandable when the bar is set high and you want to have fun right away. The best you can hope for is to find an m1 killer that you enjoy and stick with it, and there are plenty to choose from.
Trickster is just broken on Console, his recoil makes him impossible.
Oni and Huntress are definitely more difficult and you won't ever reach the skill cap of someone like Ralph or Lippy while on Console, but you don't really need to.

He's got one of the best chase powers in the game with insane mobility and map pressure. Couple that with crazy add-ons and he's the strongest Killer in the game.

80 seconds of endurance+iron will+distortion isn't enough? THREE perks in one off-hook for 80s isn't enough of an anti-tunnel?
No, because it's still better to just smack that person off of hook and continue to tunnel.
Tunneling needs to be re-balanced in the base-game, not through perks.

I can't speak for all Killers, but I'm personally not having any trouble, I haven't lost a game since Singularity released. I have tied a couple though.
Killer is in the healthiest spot it's ever been. Not the strongest, but the healthiest.

ok i tho it was 4 persons out ! thats a bit better than i saw it. But still
Still what?
We don't have any new stats. I'd like it if we did, perhaps the game isn't Killer-sided anymore, perhaps it still is, we don't know.

that was before they nerfed the 3 gen strat tho ?
That is correct. This is also before the complete destruction of DH.
Likewise, the escape rate is 39%. If the rate was 50%, that means that (on average) in matches at that skill level, two people escape the Trial.
The escape rate is 39%. That means that, on average, you get about 1.5 people out be Trial. That basically means you have an equal chance of someone escaping thru Hatch or for two people to get out thru the Gates.
39% means that Killers are killing over 2 Survivors per match on average, even at High MMR.

and again, while certain killers do so well, some are so weak its so hard to compete. I would probably win more game playing nurse or blight but i hate them. this isnt the playstayle i want. how many of those kills comes from those Stier killers. I understand its hard to balance, but its their job to deliver playable killers.

i really have no idea bro. But even there you cannot compare apple with oranges. What portion of those escape and death were from soloQ and SWF ? these are 2 different world man. at high mmr you barely ever get any soloQ unless its pretty early during the day. We cant look at those numbers unless you start seperating them !
The last stats we got said the escape rate was 39% at high MMR.

the fact that they are nerfing BNP and PTS is showing they know gens are going too fast. im not trippin man. The maps are just too bigs for most killers especialy M1s. Theres just too many pallets and the tiles are so ridiculous. This is buying survivors so much time man. How are you suppose to run gens regression perks pallet perks all of that in just 4 perks. There just no way. Either youre playing really low mmr and you dont see the problems im running into but there is serious balancing problems at the moment. EVEN with the event buff instanly breaking pallets it was barely giving us an edge .... imagine!
The PT nerf is really silly.
They removed the BP bonus, for some reason and nerfed a perk that was good for you as a Killer.
I don't know what MMR I'm at, and neither do you. We can only guess and trying to demean peoples opinions by saying they're low MMR is unbecoming.

but like i said i do watch a lot of content on YT, and pros still experience this ! you just shouldnt be losing 2-3 gens withing the 2 first minutes man ! i certainly dont consider myself a pro, but im pretty good at the game i can see what wrong man ! its genuinely way easier for survivors. You have a lot more room for mistake as a survivor compare to killers.
So then what do you think the escape rate was last year for Survivors?

SoloQ as survivors too hard and frustrating i aknowloedge that, Killer vs SWF ( especially competant ones ) unbearable !
matchmaking is ass ! and its only gonna end up making ppl leave !
Assuming you're the same skill, it's not unbearable.
If the MMR system screwed you over, then that's not on you, even if it's a difference in skill
