So EAC will ban people for altering files, but the blatent hacking and cheating it does nothing about. Intereseting...

Because they don't ban custom icons lol. In 6 years, the EAC hasn't checked the icons folder, and there is NO reason for it to start checking the folder.

Altering the game files can always be bannable, nobody will give some sort of press release about when they ban for which altered file. You simply shouldn't do it, if that wasn't clear enough. But I guess it's me spreading missinformation... Don't worry many will give you advices about hacking and how you will never be banned for their smartass advices. It's just up to people to follow these advices or not.

Officially it is not supported, not recommended, and if you get banned the responsibility is yours, that's all. Otherwise you do whatever you like with your computer.

Not necessarily on topic, but I'll have to say I really noticed that you appear in every single thread with these Karen vibes. Whatever someone says, they are wrong.

Yeah, altering game files can be bannable. But why would the EAC devs decide to start verifying a folder that poses no risk, that HALF the PC population modified??? They are updating the service to stop hackers with their constant exploiting of breaches, not to stop innocent modifications.

As a final argument: we saw in the past how modification of game files that were widely used were simply made impossible by the devs. Modding and changing of inis are examples (although the later was thankfully reversed, seeing how many people relied on those hidden settings to make their game playable).

Final thing: a few months ago, they removed custom icons. They just wouldn't work. But when the people complained, they actually reverted it. Meaning that they, while officially can't support it as per the EULA, don't mind it at all. There are literally devs using custom icons lol.

They did issue a warning. Modification of teh game files can have you banned. You have been warned, and no, nobody will need to warn you again:

"Any alteration of game files is done at your own risk. If EAC does trigger an automatic ban for these things, we will not be able to unban you."

That basically means, do it at your own risk, but probably those who actually care about their accounts shouldn't take your advice. It's just my opinion

"Those who care about their accounts" – there goes half the PC playerbase then my dude.

A dev actually confirmed it right here in this thread, It's not me spreading some "misinformation". Any file modification in the game you do on your own risk, and in case you get banned, the devs will not help you. You can imagine whatever you want, this is not coming from me. Scroll back.

Mandy is not a dev lol.

Yes you are spreading misinformation in the sense of telling the OP how they will get banned for using custom icons. They aren't bannable and period. They could become bannable, but that's you saying "you could have a plane crash on you while walking on the street, so don't walk on the street!"

really? I feel like its very dull and boring to play on now.

Thing is, with many other atrocities in the game, a map that just gives you a nice open area, with some good loops, is more than welcomed.

I have seen some people say something about transparent perk icons that can give a little advantage, is this really a thing?

No. The perk icons only change the white part. The background and the pips are un-modifiable. You can change the white part to cover the background, thus allowing for packs like the one I use, but you can't make it transparent (as changing the white part to add transparency will simply make it so the transparent part gets covered by the background)

  • @Dennis1242 said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3162018#Comment_3162018

You're right but then why do people say that if it was so people will get banned deleting the custom icons from the game files won't help you escape the ban?

Because if EAC bans you, it's permanent. You can, however, change the files BEFORE they make it bannable. But they won't. Ever. Half of the PC player base uses custom icons. Many streamers do. I remember even some devs doing it. There's just no way EAC will decide to start looking into a folder that has no files that bring a gameplay advantage, that half the PC playerbase changed.

  • Ngl, while back in 2016 I used to DC every time I got swamp (no penalties back then, and many people did it when they got Haddonfield and Swamp, those were the times lol), I've come to really like this map. It's pretty nice to play on.

  • @Dennis1242 said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3161987#Comment_3161987

I really want to use them again like that guy made me realise that is not bannable but I think I will just play safe and use the default ones

Yeah you know, it's just a mater of theory vs reality. In theory, can you get banned? Yeah, if EAC does something weird. But realistically? Never.

Can you win the lottery? Theoretically, yes. Realistically? Never.

  • @Dennis1242 said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3161894#Comment_3161894

You are right but if there is a warning deleting the custom icons before the ban will help you not get banned or what?

EAC isn't omniscient to know what files were on your PC. If they issued a warning before, you could simply delete the files. But at most, BHVR will just code it so the files are reset every time you change them. After all, deleting the folder does change the icons to default.

So yes, realistically speaking, you will not get banned.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3161870#Comment_3161870

Yes they look amazing but there is always a risk when EAC updates and wants to check the UI files where the custom icons are and people that use them will probably get banned it doesn't matter that people have been using them for years and no one got banned, The future is what matters not the past. EAC can update in the future and check the files and even if the files are harmless it's still considered file modification.

Watch EAC ban 20k PC players without warning. Something tells me BHVR won't keep their "don't unban" mindset, as in physically unable to lose half their PC player base.

But I have had some false positives over the years because DBD is not without bugs. Has EAC ever banned anyone for false positives? Can you unban someone who was not cheating but EAC said was cheating?

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3161850#Comment_3161850

At least one person got banned for modifying those icons so use them at your own risk.

I have looked it up. Dbd icon toolbox (which is the most used way to change the icons) is used by 20 THOUSAND people. The only source I found of someone being banned wa sa steam forum thread that clearly can't provide whether or not the person wa sonly using custom icons.

I really don't know what to believe, some people said you can get banned and some people said you can't

Custom icons have been in the game for at least 5 years. They are EXTREMELY popular, with even many BIG content creators having used/using them. Not a SINGLE person is known to have been banned for that.

If that was bannable, in 5 years, at least 1 person would've been banned.

  • Omg the paranoia in this thread is so damn real. @Tsela, no, they don't ban anyone for custom icons. Stop spreading misinformation.

@Dennis1242 you can safely use custom icons. I've been using them since 2017 and I'm still fine. EAC does NOT check the icon folder. EAC said themselves that they don't ban for it, ask BHVR, BHVR said they won't ban for it, ask EAC.

Of course the mods can't just say "use them". That could be easily used against BHVR in case EAC decided to ban someone. But they won't. It's been the same for as long as this game existed, and there is 0 reason for EAC to verify a folder that contains files that don't alter the gameplay in a single way.

  • I'm personally very laggy recently whereas I wasn't before. My internet is fine and it runs great on any other game, it's just that DBD decided to run like a potato on the same rig that, uncapped, it reached smooth 120fps on max settings and never lagged.

  • They stopped adding them since last year.

  • I enjoy Weskers as much as I enjoy nemesis (except his crack adicts), demo, etc. All of these killers, due to their powers, make it extremely easy to greed pallets. And with wekser, it also makes it super easy to extend chases that you otherwise couldn't due to distance: they use their power, which is super easy to dodge, then you get distance. My first game against Wesker, I used a bone for Macmillan. Someone else used an offering for garden of pain, that's where we went. As a returning player, this was my second time on that map, and I had no clue about its layout. But somehow, I managed to loop Wesker from 3 gens to 0 gens. And that was HELLA long, since my other teammates where scared of their own shadow. It must've taken at least 5 minutes. I'm definetly not that good at looping. It's just the fact that since the Wesker was greeding his power, I could always jump from loop to loop, barely using any pallets. In the end, I got adrenaline, ran into the house and walked my way into a dark corner to lose him and finally escape through the gates.

The shells game is the worst part. It just feels ignorant at best and deceptive at worst. I still have little doubt that these pushbacks are executive decisions that get slapped on after people on the team work things out to be directly positive. Pure speculation of course, but the fact that every positive QoL feels like it needs an asterisk at the end doesn't instill much confidence.

You know, the new prestige system is amazing... For new players. I, as a veteran, who didn't go past level 40 on most characters, basically have to take everything from 0. Most of the perks I had as teachables are gone. I'm lucky on the characters I had already leveled up before this change, since they have those teachables unlocked. But right now, I have to take everything from 0. I don't get why they didn't keep teachables in game. They wouldn't have the reduced the grind even further, and they would've been an alternative for old players who don't wish to take everything from 0.

  • @Peanits said:

Friend, we're gonna need some more constructive feedback than that if you want any chance of it being addressed. Eat less toenails is not enough to go on.

@TheDarkTyrant has been posting RE complaints since last year :). By this point, it is the only thing this account does.

  • Can they literally reduce the grind without increasing it in another way?

  • If you got the teachables, I'm 90% sure you can still get the perks on other characters.

  • At least you know her name.

Then there's me who can't remember that name for longer than 8 seconds 🤡

  • @Raccoon said:

I'd hope not, but BHVRs apparent inability to identify cheats in their own game without video evidence makes me paranoid about scenarios like this.

But I mean... Considering all of us in the SWF reported the Claud, wouldn't it be us against her word? We claim she gave us op vigil everywhere on the map (and it's very clear from a recording that there is vigil), she claims we were hacking exhaustion.

I sincerely hope that this encounter will only end in that person's ban.

I wouldn't be upset about it because its only a game and you can queue up again.

Also was it really a purposeful sandbag or just a screw up by a rookie player?

People are so quick to judge anything they don't like in this game as some kind of attack on their fun they rarely think clearly about it.

They are also quick to assume the response of others, especially if it helps their point, so I'll say it again I wouldn't really care, it might be a 5 sec aww bummer moment but that would be it.

So hey sorry to disappoint there but I'm one of the people who wouldn't mind. Especially if it came from someone whom appeared to be a relatively inexperienced player.

But by all means feel free to record every perceived slight and report it if that's your schtick, to each their own.

Standing still for 3-4 seconds seconds untill I get downed like this:

    Screenshot_20220829-175444_Chrome.jpg

    Isn't really just an accident.

My issue is that I'm currently in MMR hell, and every loss puts me with even bigger babies. Losing like this is SUPER annoying.

  • @pseudechis said:

So you had a great game with a really good chase and decided to focus on the negative at games end rather than the positives throughout, because some random screwed up.

That's a recipe for ruining your own game time.

I can't say it was a really good chase. I was just holding w. I managed to do it for 2 minutes, but hey, I'm sure you wouldn't mind getting body blocked instead of having a hit tanked for you.

  • NOED was a 2 minute timer perk that had no totem.

    Tinkerer buffed addons.

DS was always active and could be used the first time you got downed.

    Damaging gens wasn't a thing.

Closing hatch wasn't possible as there was no EGC.

    Moris worked on first down.

Hooks wouldn't respawn after being sabotaged.

Sprint burst recharged as fast while running, so you could use it mid chase.

  • Nah she didn't. If she would've, she wouldn't have crawled out untill I got hooked. At least that way I could've tried to kobe. But she made sure to crawl out a millisecond before I got hooked, so I just died.

  • Meanwhile, the same anti cheat keeps saying I have modified game files every few days. (EAC has detected modified game files. Please verify integrity of game cache). I tried verifying game files, reinstalling anticheat etc. The only thing that fixes it is reinstalling the game, so literally because of that stupid error I have to reinstall dbd every 3 days.

I do disagree with that; Dead by Daylight uses EAC, VAC isn't present in Dead by Daylight.

It sounds like a case of stolen account to me; You know.. The usual phising URL addresses and then getting the account. Once acquired, playing some VAC secured games with F2P cheating softwares and getting banned right-away.. And then getting into some other games that the poor owner, who's very likely in desperate attempts trying to get his or her account back, has bought aswell..

But I think that bans issued by the DBD team actually show on steam. Both the support and the EAC can ban, so I guess that the former counts as steam ban.

If "the gens are done" happens in your soloQ games often, you are indeed one lucky guy. It also seems nothing like "MMR hell" to me.

Haha you're so right... Just had a match, 1 default Dwight with no perks, 2 other people crouching in corners. I somehow managed to avoid the okish nurse for like 2 minutes. The game went on for like 10 minutes. No gens were done. I was the only one to touch gens, even managed to get one to half, before baby dweet came in and exploded it 3 times and the nurse came.

    5 ######### gens remaining. 10 minute game.

well I suppose that's the charm of playing killer. Not because the balance favors you, but your success doesn't depend on 3 other people. So eventually you win some if you are good enough.

Tbh, I don't play killer right now because I've been playing shooters recently so killer is kinda boring. I'll stick to survivor some more.

I did however play some nurse and I got 2k both times. I'd say it's ok after the pause I had.

Thing is, I also wanna play for the vibes. I wanna play like I used to, but it's like really hard to enjoy myself in low MMR. A loss or two is ok, but when you get to 15 it really gets frustrating.

  • @WeakestNurseMain said:

well hell is on all sides. If survivors have a good game they troll the killer. if killer has a good game he trolls the survivors. It's not like I feel too much compassion around here. we play for fun and we play because we like the game. If not... well I have over 900 other games to play.

Thing is, it gets kinda difficult to have fun when you lose 15 games in a row, 5 gens left.

Legit the worst advice one could possibly give, hatch doesn't give MMR and if he lets his team die he will never get normal escapes because a 3v1 is basically unwinnable unless there are only 1-2 gens left.

    Here is my advice:

    1. learn how to loop and try to be chased by the killer, so the game depends on your skill instead of your teammates'
    2. dodge every lobby where you have a lvl 0 / itemless player (and yea that will be A LOT of lobbies)

But do not get your hopes up, games won't be better at higher MMR. You'll get better teammates, but also better killers.

A little fyi: I'm a veteran player (2016). It's just that I'm a bit rusty and need some time to readjust.

However, talking about horrible advice, I could say the same about you telling me to learn looping. Looping does nothing in bad MMR. No one does gens. I could loop for 5 minutes, 5 gens would be remaining. If I do gens myself, my teammates will all last collectively half as long a v***in in bed.

It's just a lose-lose situation. I need to find a friend if I want to do anything.

  • @Huge_Bush said:

To escape MMR hell, I suggest you run a stealth build that includes Plunderers for a chance to get a key (or just bring in a key). Play selfishly and let your team die and escape from hatch.

I’m not really sure if hatch is considered a win, so this strategy may not be the best. It should tho.

    Hatch isn't a win. It's neutral.

That's what sucks about mmr hell. No one does gens. If I do gens, they all go down like flies. If I run the killer, 0 gens go by.

No, it took much more, 5 minutes and 20 seconds was the time needed to regress from 99% to 0%, half a bar would be 3 minutes and 10 seconds not 1 minute. Sabo had almost the same impact because hooks reappared after 30 seconds which translated into roughly 10% of the wiggle bar.

The wiggle regression was so tiny and so unconsequential most people (both Killers and Survivors) didnt even know it existed, your memories are just distorted about the whole mechanic.

It was weird for me to learn that so little people knew about wiggle regression, but after all I know DBD since perma sabo was a thing. Most people from back then remember it.

I don't really get why they removed it. It was so insignificant and nobody cared/complained.

  • I'm pretty sure there are a few keys left for the chapter. Probably expensive, but better to have them than to lose it forever.
