Ya'll are gonna tear into me for this one but the penalty should be capped at 30 minutes max. Anything over an hour is just excessive and unnecessary.
Nah I agree. I support DC penalties to a limit. 30 minutes sounds about right. A player knowing they'll have to wait half an hour may think twice before DCing.

Once yesterday with a 15 second lock.
Today with a 5 minute lock.
Then again today with a 15 minute lock.
All with dredge.
My internet is good. Speed tests and packet loss tests are good.

Seems to only happen when I play dredge.

Why the cake hate? I always use them on killers that I have them on. And if I see survivors with a cake offering I appreciate it. What am I missing?

@Leatherbilly said:
If Survivors burn a map offering for a map like Mount Ormund then specifically combine Boil Over and Breakout, there are parts of the map that are guaranteed to be impossible to reach a hook as the Killer no matter what you do, even with no sabo/bodyblock or interference of any kind. You simply cannot ever reach a hook, and they will always run directly to this safe zone, forcing you to slug for 4 minutes.
While I think it's pretty clear certain maps were made before Breakout Boil Over was a thing and that this is both unintended and an exploit of map and perk design, but does it rise to the level of being reportable, BHVR?
You want to report someone for bringing perks and playing a map? Entitled much?
-
Thanks. I find the meta builds boring. I prefer chase and aura perks. I rarely run gen slowdown perks.
Besides, survivors are expecting the meta. They're not expecting me to bing-bong right in their face. 😀

I typically refer to sweating as people who do unnecessary things for the sake of absolute victory. If you kill 2 people there's no reason to slug the 3rd for ages for the sake of the 4k you've already won and unless there's an archive demanding it you have no reason to do that for the 4th kill it grants you nothing of importance other than a boost to ego.
I always say this when it comes to DBD but there is no screen in this game that says VICTORY or DEFEAT. If the killer technically "wins" by getting a 3k but has less BP than the 4th survivor who maybe got out due to hatch or whatever circumstance did you really win? The game never told you that you won and your "score"(BP) is lower than the survivors.
Victory is self imposed in this game and some people will play in a way they don't even find fun that will ruin the game for everyone else as well all for the sake of victory. I consider that sweating.

Can't say I relate. I've never really been so into a game that I play only that game for months at a time. I play a game for a few hours and if/when I get tired of it I move on to the next and if i'm not interested I stop playing for weeks then come back and repeat. I find DBD relatively challenging for me since I don't spend enough time getting so good that it becomes too easy still find moderate enjoyment out of the game since it's not a walk in the park but also not so difficult that it's impossible
You must be psychic yeah? Or do you only speak for yourself when you say "there's no reason"?
To answer your question, I don't sweat. I'm playing a game that I'm good at. Nothing more, nothing less.

I didn't break it down like yours but here's the stuff and things. I main the wraith as you can tell haha
The only games I don't count are meme games.

If the perk doesn't proc, it means it couldn't proc because no aura could be read. Which means they likely had something to block it. I've used and seen people use this perk enough to know that it works (even though it's pretty bad).
Oh I see. It will only proc when an aura is available. Understood.
I use it on Wraith with pretty good results.

@Skillfulstone said:
There are a few perks that block aura-reading and lockers block aura-reading, if Survivors were injured but you didn't see anyone then that means they were in a locker or had one of those perks.
I understand that. I'm saying it doesn't proc at all (you can see the timer in the perk icon).

Fact: It can be proven to be true or false through objective evidence.
Opinion: Is a statement that expresses a feeling, an attitude, a value judgement or belief.
What's your point? The OP asked a question and I gave an answer. Of course it's my opinion.

Nope that situation is exactly when killer is too greedy for 4K. Trying to work with other survivor to try kill the other is wrong. What he did should count as holding game hostage.
I suppose I can only speak for myself then.

Nah they definitely wanted me to give up the team mate. At first i thought they wanted to chase me but as i kept running, they kept looking around instead of staying on me (opening lots of lockers too). When I first hopped on a gen I was seeing if they just wanted to farm, but they'd tell me to get off then shake their head and get in between me and the gen. As soon as they found and downed the other survivor they immediately came and hooked me.
It was a Pumpkin head nurse
Wasn't me.

Sorry but intentionally targeting and ruining a persons playing experience Is toxic and it being efficient doesn’t change the fact it’s annoying, unfun, and toxic lol. Other games strive away from unfun and annoying experiences and make playing in a toxic way typically a disadvantage meanwhile dbd strongly encourages being as toxic on both sides as you can be lol. Literally neither side is fun at all because this playerbase is one of the worst I’ve been in and I played overwatch in 2016-2021 💀
What if you happen to be the killers obsession? Some challenges require you to kill your obsession by any means.
It's not toxic. And they, probably, aren't intentionally trying to ruin your fun. They are trying to win.
I had a game of apparent beginners earlier. I decided to go for 8 hooks and let them go until one started teabagging whenever he'd stun me with a pallet. He got his whole team killed. Is that toxic? Nah, it's just a game.
-
Who was the killer? Sounds like one of my games! 😂
-
No.
Some killers will back off if they think you're new. If they pick you up and let you wiggle off then swing, that usually means they just want to chase, not give up your teammate.

And just because we have dc penalties, people are killing themself on hook which creates even worse scenarios for survivors.
That's not the point. When you DC you are forcing the other players to play with a bot. No one wants to do that.

Why did you cut off the stats on the right?
No particular reason. Smaller screen snip to get perks I suppose.
-
I return to you now beaten and battered. Missing half my teeth, two fingers, a foot, and my left testicle. 😐️
Just kidding. I gave it to them. Something weird happened though. I was trying to tell them to run from me for a chase. One player must've misunderstood when I chased her into the corner. I left when the gates were powered to see them off but the corner girl wasn't there. I went looking thinking that she was sacrificing herself. Then I started getting notifications and crows that she was still standing in the corner. I told her to leave and she did.
Did she think I told her to stand there and not move I wonder? And if she did think that, why would she obey in the first place?
Note: I use "she" in reference to the character, not the player.
-
Now I'll go into my next match with that mindset and get stomped. 😂
-
Is it? hmmm...

I propose an idea to counter the camp. When the killer is more than so many meters from the hook, his vision is reduced to nothing. To regain his vision, the killer must move so many meters away. And please don't say he has to move 5 meters away, otherwise it's useless.
Camping notwithstanding, crippling a killer like that is a sure way to make people stop playing killer.

I do not stress or have a bunch of mental anguish from playing this game (thanks Duloxetine!)
However, I WAS having a bunch of stress and mental anguish from playing this game previously and I can tell you why I kept playing back then even though I was quite literally hating myself for constantly playing the game when it made me so frustrated and angry that I literally went through dozens of keyboards due to this game (which that was its own problems that DBD was bringing out, not being caused by DBD that has thankfully been addressed):
DBD is a very unique experience that you really can't get from anywhere else and when the game is fun, it is SUPER FUN. For a multiplayer game, when it's firing on all cylinders with a team of four or when you take down a very good foursome, this I dare say can be one of the most fun games you can play. Which is all I would remember. I would throw my fit, break something, uninstall forever, and then come back. Sometimes it was the same day, sometimes I would be gone a week, but eventually my memory of the frustrating games would fade while the memories of those games when everything was super fun would brighten. Unfortunately there are not really any games that I feel play like this one so I inevitably would come crawling back.
I do feel like I'm probably a bit more extreme case (I'd always had a frustration/anger issue when it comes to competing and being in chronic pain for almost four years now had turned that into a damn hair trigger) but this game, for better or worse, can really sink claws into you and never let you go. It's one of the most unique multiplayers games out there.
Good answer.

I'm starting to think most people on this forum just want to play against bots. The comments in several threads show a total lack of understanding that there is in fact 4 other people in each match and playing in a scummy way that ruins the fun for others will result in fewer and fewer players.
All games eventually die, but for some reason there is a group of this playerbase that is trying to kill this game as fast as possible with playstyles.
"All games eventually die, but for some reason there is a group of this playerbase that is trying to kill this game as fast as possible with playstyles."
I was wondering when the "this game is dying" would come up again.

"Yeah and if you feel the need abuse other players over a game, DM people, actually engage in griefing by body blocking people in corners, cheating etc. then you are probably a jackass in real life."
As I mentioned to the other person above, this is what I'm addressing. I'm not talking about people just playing the game normally.
We are on the same page then.

You wanted a discussion, but you chose to stop reading the moment you read something you don't like. That tells me you aren't interested in a discussion, and you only want an echo chamber.
If everyone adopts the mindset that they only need to care about their own fun, and nobody else's, they'll quickly find that nobody wants to play with them.
"You wanted a discussion, but you chose to stop reading the moment you read something you don't like. That tells me you aren't interested in a discussion, and you only want an echo chamber."
Now it's you that misunderstands. I didn't stop reading because I read something I don't like. I stopped reading at the point where you told me how to play my game. See the difference?

You misunderstand. You don't need to make the game fun for them, you only need to make sure you aren't making the game unfun for them.
I don't go out of my way to diminish the killer's experience, and they don't go out of their way to diminish mine. We both play the game normally, and we both try to win. That's the ideal scenario.
What usually happens is I don't go out of my way to diminish the killer's experience, but they go out of their way to diminish my experience because they feel like they need to win 100% of the time.
"you only need to make sure you aren't making the game unfun for them."

Sure, it's selfish, and you aren't obligated to care that the other party isn't having fun, but ponder for a moment, what do you think happens when everyone adopts that mindset? Nobody has fun.
In my 900 hours as killer I have NEVER seen an instance where a survivor was going out of their way to make sure I have fun. And I'm not talking about farming games (those can be fun too).
What does that even look like? When I'm swinging an ax at your head, how do you communicate to me that you aren't having fun but you want me to have fun too?
-
@Kaitsja said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3511268#Comment_3511268
I think that your goal is to win, by any means necessary, and that you aren't concerned that the other party isn't having fun.
I think that it's important to remember that the other party are still people, and if you wouldn't enjoy it, chances are they aren't enjoying it either. That's about what it boils down to.
Mind you, I don't mean to make this sound as if I mean you personally, since you did say that you don't engage in tunneling or camping.
"I think that your goal is to win, by any means necessary, and that you aren't concerned that the other party isn't having fun."
BINGO! We have a winner!
Typically when I play a game it's for my entertainment. I don't know... call me selfish I guess.

If you are so unbothered then why feel the need to make a whole forum post about it? Not dissing you just throwing it out there. And to answer your question proper, there is no other type of game right now where you can play as or run from a psycho killer and try to escape the slasher movie. Friday the 13th has been officially killed off and we have Texas chainsaw but no guarantees it will succeed so dbd is the most logical choice for most people
Let's not mix it up here. I'm unbothered by what people think of me as a killer.
I'm curious about people's justifications for playing under such circumstances.
