I feel like BHVR is desperate to convince us that Skull Merchant is a cool killer and a good character, but it's not working. I'd rather have a Tome about anyone else, though I'm definitely biased because most of my favorite characters don't have Tomes yet.
I agree to an extent. The same happened with trickster where they really wanted the community to like him when most just didn’t. He didn’t get a tome directly after launch however but pretty close to it

So more and longer DBD is a bad thing?
Same way chases are the most fun part of the game but getting chased all game, aka tunneled, is a bad thing?
The same way sitting on gens all game is boring but not hyperfocusing on the objective and doing anything but sitting on gens all game is letting the team down?
The same way trying to achieve you own objective by any means is good but when your opponent does it its sweaty and bad?
The same way bringing the best perks yourself is good play but not the same as your sweaty take it too serious opponent who brought the best perks because they're bad?
The same way laying on ground for four mins is too long and bad but waiting out the endgame timer till the very last second for three mins is ok time use?
The same way that getting eliminated early is bad but having to stay in game for too long is also bad and pretty much any scenario in between?
This community is interesting sometimes, they really hate this game, they hate playing it, they hate investing time into it, they hate everyone else who plays it, they hate anything that might happen in game... yet they keep playing it. Its fascinating.
Long interactive games are what we want. Most Skull merchant just sits at 3 gens and hits you if you get close

I fully agree. Skull Merchant is the worst I have ever felt when going against a Killer. Maybe Release-Legion with Moonwalking and/or Mixtape was the same, but nothing came close to Skull Merchant.
She is also not fun to play for me, because there is not really an interaction with Survivors when using her power. The Skull Merchant interacts with the Drones and the Survivors do the same, but there is no direct interaction (aside from the standard chase). This is very boring.
Have said it for weeks and first time I have said this about a Killer - but they should just killswitch her, rework her completely and then re-release her with an option to get a refund for those who dont want to play with the new Kit anymore.
I’d say infinite mend legion and 7 blink nurse were worse but they were both fixed. I doubt merchant will get any major changes past this point

I just dont like how they are gonna do this for bad chapters as well. Release a terrible chapter well dont worry guys because it will be the next tome🤠
Exactly. It sours the community more by having a chapter which isn’t well received be centre stage for 2 updates in a row

I haven't really thought about this, but you make some valid points. Creating new characters, and then letting few or several months pass by before their tome, to get feedback from the community, feels very smart. Not to mention that the community could influence the tome by showing the devs how they view the characters (e.g. through fanart, cosplays, suggestions).
New characters get released, players get affected in certain ways, and give feedback and their view of the characters. And that helps shape up the new characters in their tome. This feels really good, and deepens the bond between the players and the devs. I like it.
Yeah that’s what I’m saying. For example people didn’t like jonha’s lore on release but he got an archive afterwards which helped things out a lot
when given time bhvr can fix problems associated with lore. When given a month and a half they can’t realistically do that which is what led to knight and merchant tome stories (at least so far for merchant)

Common skull merchant L
She can’t catch a break despite the devs trying everything in their power to make people like her
-
@Caiman said:
When I first saw Skull Merchant and only snagged snippets of her lore, my first impression was she was an arms dealer who profited off violence and eventually started committing it herself for fun and profit with increasingly advanced inventions and technology.
Even with her current lore, all she has to be is a wealthy corporate executive who went full Patrick Bateman and thought "I enjoy killing people, and I'm rich and powerful enough to get away with it, so why not?" The manga inspiration is an unnecessary gimmick, her visual design is goofy, and her rise to power and her growing murderous tendencies are almost completely glossed over.
I'm sorry to say this but she feels like a fan-character made for a bad DbD fanfiction.
The idea of an arms dealer who likes to test her new weapon on actual people from rival companies sounds way cooler and more in line with the name itself

Immediately drop chase and then come back 10 seconds later when they're back on the same gen? Works for me
This can work unless you fight multiple SB’s and realise you’ve wasted about 60 seconds baiting chases for no actual gain and the first survivor has their SB back
-
It should stack. Afaik the 33% penalty only applies to medkits and not self care itself
-
It’s a hard problem to fix without major gameplay overhauls. Realistically DS should be basekit with 3 seconds to discourage it as a strategy
It could also disable killer powers for 5-8 seconds so killers like blight and nurse can’t just ignore it completely
-
Still wish some add-ons were better but it’s a good change overall
still not used to playing him on mouse and keyboard though so I haven’t got the key bindings to use him properly
-
Even as someone who likes skull merchant i agree
The exact same thing happened when All-Kill released. BHVR shoved trickster down our throats assuming we’d eventually just enjoy him (We still don’t)
Merchant has been a failure in basically every area and even I can admit that. They should put her on the sideline like twins until they figure out how to fix her
-
People definitely complain to much but I think it’s because the actual content for the last 6 months has been hated by most the community
People can ignore things once the new content is good. If it isn’t they wil find things to complain about
-
Pinhead is probably my best character but I’ve never lost as nurse in my like 5 games played as her either
-
It’s good that DH got nerfed and it’ll be interesting to see how the game plays without it
People haven’t caught on to sprint burst yet. I’ve been using it to great success

David is second one, yeah, but i don't remember Ace has bald skin
Pretty sure he’s bald with a moustache if I remember correctly
Also Renato is bald in his 1st skin but he has a hat on
-
Isn’t ace the other one? David also has one
-
Yep I actually like spending BP now and it makes the P100 grind feel better and actually worth it

The thing i really like about Vittorio's lore is that it actually feels like it has room to exist as it's own seperate part, which is where i feel Knight, SM, Thalita and Renato's tomes falls short, personally i think Knight's tome should start after the events of his base and end at the moment where Vittorio's tome cinematic ends at with them reuniting.
As for SM, i feel what she need is a tome that goes in depth about her obsession and why/how she comes to the conclusion that she needs to kill others to be the best.
Knight’s tome should’ve focus on his 3 guards and his interactions with them imo since that’s his defining factor
Agreed on Merchant. She’s sociopathic to some degree and seeing that fleshed out would be more interesting than just a rehash of her base lore
-
Knight and trickster for me.
There’s no gameplay really. Knight you just hold W until you die and trickster is just 1-2 knives per rotation until you either get hit or he runs out of knives

My feeling has been her lore was based on Mark Twitchell, the Dexter Killer.
He was a wannabe serial killer out of Edmonton, Alberta who was also a wannabe filmmaker and into the cosplay/convention scene. Claiming to be inspired by the TV show Dexter he lured men to a set he was using for a horror movie be pretending to by a woman on a dating site. Attacked one who got away, killed one who didn't, was quickly caught after the fact because he was a moron who, among other things, has his whole plan, including what he would do if suspected, on his laptop hidden inside the Recycling Bin in a file titled SK Confessions
I doubt it personally but other killers have been heavily inspired by real people so it’s not out of the question
But skull merchant’s lore seems to unfocused and erratic to be influenced by a real person

It has to be on purpose at this point, right?
My guess is that they want merchant to be like clown and ghostie where she’s meant to be humorous in how she is depicted
The issue is that this is in complete contrast to Adriana herself who is an intelligent, cold and calculated businesswomen who we should be scared of
The 2 sides don’t mesh well together
-
For merchant I prefer jolt and deadlock but she’s probably the best CoB overcharge user
Don’t forget iri manuscript for mobile Terror radius

Boil Over is one of the most bullshit feel-bad perks.
It literally only affects Console players and it can be damn near impossible to hook people using it. It's one of the worst designed perks and it should be reworked completely.
If I were any saltier, I'd say it was cheating. It's the one perk that I'll be upset about seeing.
When I used to play on console getting boil overed on lery’s was genuinely frustrating
One of the few times I actually got so tilted I stopped playing
-
Bamboozle and boil over.
Bamboozle killers are predictable and make holding W even more prevalent since they won’t play a single window
Boil over gamers go to an unhookable spot and get mad when you slug them
-
I paid for my game so I have a right to not play it /s
On a serious note why even play if you’re going to do that? Seriously if the game tilts you so much just play something else (Borderlands 3 is currently my “tilted from dbd” game)
-
Hell I’m already doing it. It sucks because her lore has potential to be great but merchant has literally been squandered at every opportunity
-

whats wrong with this photo? like genuinely i dont see it
“She executed her obsessions with killing and suffering”
That’s a grammatical nightmare
-
@Chocolate_Cosmos said:
She needs her motives to be better explained. This whole "she read father's manga and now she just follows the manga blindly and cosplays it" is kinda cringe and unbeliveable.
Yeah it’s ridiculous for a character who is shown to be very logical and cold.
It would make more sense if her father was exploiting by the boss of a publishing company and merchant used the outfit to mock him for saying the concept of the manga was bad. She would then use the disguise afterwards as a way to honor her father’s legacy when he died
-
@Smoe said:
After how good Vittorio's tome lore was, SM and both Renato & Thalita's tomes were pretty meh.
I'm still unsure what exactly SM's tome added to her overall lore that we didn't already know about from her base lore.
At least the visual entries are nice.
That was kinda the issue with knight’s tome too. Both characters have so much base lore that their archives basically just rethread their base stuff
Merchant’s archive should’ve either been about her building her devices or her business ventures
-
@katoptris said:
She was the real trickster.
Tbf trucksters base lore wasn't great but his archive was done well and basically fixed his character
Can't say the same about merchant sadly
-
Pretty good so far. I ran deadlock and jolt so the regression nerfs didn’t affect me and the healing changes are very helpful to M1 killers.
New Gearhead is also great for killers like wraith, sadako or dredge
-
@GoodBoyKaru said:
I mean that's what happens when your writers are trying to expand on the lore of a character without any idea of what the community believes works well, what doesn't, and how to improve it. It's a lot harder to see these things in your own work than it is to see them in another's.
That makes sense. It sucks though because merchant as a concept is cool but her lore just doesn’t focus on what’s actually interesting about her
Instead of focusing on her rise to power in the business world and her indifference towards killing so long as it further her wealth they turned her into a cosplayer who enjoys killing just because basically
-
Bubba doesn’t need buffs. He just needs his add-ons and map hitboxes fixed
Billy just needs better add-ons tbh
-
I haven’t seen anymore than normal. People still DC against merchant but I’m not surprised about that
-
Yeah the survivor item pool was already struggling and this hasn’t helped. A brown medkit is essentially identical to a purple and syringe + bandages is the best combo in 99% of situations
Glad medkits got nerfed but they could have made more interesting add ons. How about pills which silence your grunts of pain for 60 seconds at the cost of 12 charges of your medkit for example?
-
Honestly most the hate she’s got is because she came out after the knight (who is arguably worse). If she was released after a good chapter people wouldn’t care as much
-
Very good overall
New Gearhead is very strong and overzealous is pretty good. Medkits got a well deserved nerf but are still useful. COB and overcharge got gutted which is good tbh. Pain resonance was nerfed but is still great. Dead hard got hit hard which is also good
Bloodweb changes are amazing and make the P100 grind way easier
Very happy with the patch
-
Removing her instadown literally encourages 3 gens more since she has no chase ability
Anyway knight is arguably better a 3 gen while also being better in chase. I find him way more annoying tbh
-
There’s no real solution to the issue. Either gen perks are the best because their numbers are high or gen perks are the best because they work with the naturally longer gen times
The best fix imo is just map balance. If chases are more skill based and killers can pressure gens easier then gens will naturally go slower but not feel slower
-

you are acting like every game you face the hag, you can still use flashlights as always, medkits are still strong, dont know the conplains really
I’m not complaint as such. Medkit nerfs we’re 100% justified and flashlight nerfs are mostly unnoticeable
The point I’m making is that many survivors will see their stockpile of items and realise that toolboxes are the most consistently useful so they will run them every game. Autospend plus huge BP numbers means tons of items
As for BNP’s if killers start running anti heal/aura read it’s better to just rush gens to counter it
-

Oh I didn't think anybody still used eruption lol.
Honestly it’s still pretty decent. 10% total progress plus aura reading is pretty strong for only kicking the gen and it’s now the best 3 gen perk alongside jolt
-
It’s a great patch overall. New perks have risen to the meta like Gearhead or overzealous and this meta feels more fair and not just regression/Dead hard
The only major issue left is map design which they are still struggling with (Gas heaven has a ridiculous 3 gen set up)
-
I’ll probably keep it for the anniversary chapter coming up since that’ll probably be licensed.
Free SM skin for me is nice too
-
@GoodBoyKaru said:

Supporting Haddie's new skin so that maybe the most lore relevant character gets some more outfits
The Haddie hive appreciates your support :)
-
People are less inclined to run medkits now and with killers running sloppy butcher just doing gens will be rewarded more hence the toolboxes
Flashlights also got nerfed so even more reason to run a toolbox
-
This is hugely helpful for grinding to P100 where you don’t really care what items you get
The P100 Haddie grind will finally begin again
-
Well you can always just slug with ring drawing since that’s clearly the intended way to play her
-
The connecting hay/trailer loops on cowshed. If that connects to shack window you’ve basically won the match
-
BHVR just because you nerfed COB and Overcharge doesn’t mean you can ignore 3 gens completely. This with jolt and eruption is probably miserable to fight
