Regrettably the devs don't care about your experience or any fairness with respect to survivors getting hit. The network philosophy for the game is called "Favour The Killer." And it does exactly as it says, it favors The Killer with hits. The last time I checked Server-Side Hit Validation kicked in at about the 350ms mark but even then it's not always consistent, as is in your case where the ping reached 500ms. A few years ago, the devs said that hits continue to be done on The Killer's end and that they didn't think it was fair for a killer to hit a Survivor and for the hit to be rejected, that it felt frustrating for them. They have been silent on the frustration on the receiving end when a Survivor gets hit due to lag. Killer players love the advantage, and not enough survivor players talk about it. So for the most part, it's largely undiscussed and people get attacked about this topic. Killer players have been accustomed to hits being handled on their end since the beginning and even with the introduction of dedicated servers, very little has changed and this is exactly what the devs have stated. The stream from a few years ago where they demonstrate the lag, advantage and discrepancy, they basically said oh well for the survivors. They were really focused on what the killer experience is.

This was part of the Realm Beyond, right? Whatever happened to the rest of that campaign? We still lack Ray Tracing, and the rework for the last realm, Backwater Swamp.

You said lag benefits the killer. I play killer. I am lagging. I told you what is happening and asked how is it benefitting me, as you said it was.
Now you're saying "I never said your issues with nurse were beneficial". Make up your mind friend. And telling me this is "unrelated" is absolutely crazy. Is it only related if it supports your narrative? Holy entitlement batman.
All of my comments refer to hits. Whenever I mentioned the lag advantage, I also said hits, FtK, and Server-Side Hit Authority. It's not hard to deduce this, but you're making this into a Hatch stand-off for some reason.
You're not accomplishing anything here; you misunderstood my post, and/or perhaps I should've said "hits" a few more times to reinforce that point. However, you cannot reconcile the fact that it is unrelated and that you were wrong, even after I clarified it. So, you're repeatedly attacking me personally rather than simply acknowledging the misunderstanding and moving on. I'll move away from the Hatch so you can close it, I have better things to do now.

It's kind of funny you wrote "There is something wrong and sinister when someone posts a verbose tirade while misinformed." and then proceeded to not actually address anything I said. You didn't even so much as mention nurse at all. You completely dodged it. I guess I can see why.
Let me ask the question again, in the hopes that a second time might trigger you to actually address arguments, as opposed to just writing a kneejerk "NO YOU!" post: How on earth is the situation I described benefitting me, oh victimization expert? By all means, feel free to call behavior for them to help you answer.
Assuming, that is, that you'll actually address arguments which doesn't seem to be something you are very keen on doing.
Nothing I said is wrong. Your Nurse anecdote is something else entirely; it has nothing to do with 'Favour The Killer.' I don't need to address this unrelated conflation to be right. I also never said your issues with The Nurse were beneficial; you're making assumptions there. Per the developers, my comments are based on the facts regarding hits, how they are handled, and who benefits (hint: not the Survivor). Your situation sounds more like a server-side issue, which differs from those related to hits and the FtK philosophy.
-
I might add that your reply is unnecessarily reductive and reveals a lot about you. There is something wrong and sinister when someone posts a verbose tirade while misinformed. I implore you to educate yourself before posting; it will spare you blushes. For the record, the lag does favor The Killer, hence the name 'Favour The Killer.' The devs have written extensively about it, including how hits are handled on The Killer's end. Good luck!
EDIT: The post I was responding to was deleted, in case anyone is wondering lol

High ping should be detrimental/helpful to everyone or it's not fair. No need to punish one side because of bad ping over the other, it should just not exist at all or be equally bad/good for everyone.
I agree, but 'Favour The Killer' is precisely that, providing The Killer with an ongoing advantage over Survivors. Hits are still handled on The Killer's end, too!
-
@WolfyWood Bingo, it shouldn't be an advantage, and that's the problem with 'Favour The Killer.' That's why I think we need Server-Side Hit Authority. These people with high latency - natural or induced - always feel entitled to having a great game experience that is "fair," but they don't want consequences for lacking optimal network conditions. Everyone else should suffer so they can have a good time.
-
@LockerLurk said:
You pretty much can't unless you upgrade your ISP or router.
This is also why "WHY DON'T WE BAN KILLERS WITH HIGH PING RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE" makes no sense. Not everyone controls that. And no, not everyone uses a VPN to cheat.It's not about banning, but why reward them for lag? Lag can be induced, a problem for a game that rewards it. My ping on DbD is almost always below 35. Still, I am punished when The Killer lags for whatever reason—cheating, VPN, Mobile Hot Spot, poor internet infrastructure, overloaded network conditions, rural, etc. Let the server be the hit authority.
-
Three garbage Survivor perks! I thought they were really going to deliver with at least one compelling perk but nope. It's not only just the numbers; the effects of the perks are pretty mediocre. Why not go all the way? Instead of just haste, take a protection hit and suppress their scratch marks and grunts of pain. That would provide more relief to someone getting tunneled right after you unhook them. But devs are so afraid of making tunneling and slugging a chore for Killers, so nearly everything in this space works one time, has limited reach, and is ultimately pretty meh. Oftentimes you have to stack too many altruistic perks in order to provide even minimal help and it's usually not worth it since you have nothing for yourself at that point.
-
They're not going to do it yet, not when people post videos on social media about how broken, OP, and easy this killer is. When the money stops rolling in, then they'll adjust/nerf him.
-
@DEMONANCE said:
hate the haste and hindered change already made a post about it.
the unhook spam thing scares me that it might help killers more than it does survivors as some saves require multiple fakes to be able to escape against a camping killer and 3 times might not be enough.
The Killer will know you have to lock in after the three attempts, so I also wonder if it will help them more. I always thought Survivors should be able to decline getting rescued, especially at less than optimal time, but I can see that being used as a tool to deny one Survivor a rescue while a friend swoops in instead, trolling, etc. Sometimes I want to decline a rescue, especially when they bring The Killer with them or it's too soon.
-
Every day has that day one launch feel where 90% of matches feature the newest killer. This is a sign that he is fun, easy, and OP, which is why everyone plays him. Ime no other killer has this pick rate for this long, even highly coveted and anticipated IPs like Silent Hill, RE, etc. I didn't run into launch killers with this repetitiveness for this long.

Same for genrushing. If they're going to buff anti tunnel, there better be a nerf to gen speeds coming with it at the same time. Otherwise this games just going to keep getting more and more survivor sided
They have nerfed gen speeds and perks, and the tunneling remains rampant. Some (perhaps most) love to tunnel, but that's the reality. Even when The Killer isn't faced with genrushing or any gen perk, they still tunnel! People get tunneled at five generators. People get tunnelled at all stages of the match. Further slowing down generators won't accomplish anything concerning tunneling.

It is quite literally a get out of jail free card with zero counterplay. It’s on a pretty long cooldown and isn’t active when injured so I don’t think it’s too problematic. But it is literally a free zero effort escape. That saves you even after you made huge mistakes.
The only killer who can actually catch it during the Vault is slinger. But since he is 110% its very close, you have to be almost perfect.
Huntress will 100% never catch you at a window ever if you have finness off cooldown. She’s 110% and 77% when holding. Even with Shiny Pin and Flower you’ll still never hit them.
You're not factoring in Favor The Killer aka the perma-lag advantage granted unless The Killer's ping is 250 or higher, then validation might kick in. In other words, all the Perks in the world can't save you from a lag switching killer.
-
The new killer is OP and unfun. Just adding my feedback to the chorus.
-
@KatsuhxP Yes this makes sense. Did the move to UE5 not improve things for them to be able to further optimize the game and improve the res/FR?

You aren't at 120 because your console can't handle DBD at 120 frames a second reliably or stabley. Join the PC gaming side or accept the limitations that come with buying prebundled locked hardware.
I own an iphone even though android is far more open source. You gotta understand console gaming comes with pros (exclusive titles) and big cons (low fps, can't do 240/144/120 etc) for most games.
That is not true. I can play more demanding games at 120 FPS on PS5 Pro than in DbD. 120 is possible, and would likely require a resolution nerf to reach 120 or up to 120. And VRR exists for the reasons you outline.
-
@MrMori said:
I think it's just not a priority for BHVR. I'd love 120fps for consoles, but especially would like to see 240 fps or uncapped fps for PC. PC is still capped at 120, which is sad because plenty of players could take advantage of a higher framerate cap. But I don't think there's enough demand for them to bother implementing it.
That makes sense, but I'm gonna keep asking. I played a few 120 titles, and the difference is vast. I can only imagine DbD at 120. I shouldn't be too surprised, the devs promised Ray Tracing and other "next-gen enhancements" that never materialized. I remember an interview Matt did, and he mentioned how the blood shines during moonlight and that they wanted to bring that. Dbd looks visually dated, too. Behaviour was so quick to launch PS5 and Xbox Series upgrades at launch, I was optimistic that we would see them jump to 120 and some enhancements for PS5 Pro. I'm disappointed.
-
There's no if, the system is called Favor The Killer. It can't get any more explicit and precise than that lol.
So, why play around it? Why is the answer never to making it fair for everyone and letting the server be the authority? I can answer that, but many won't like it. Killer players are accustomed to the luxury of hits being handled on their end. And it will be a considerable undertaking for the devs to wean these people off of systems they rely on. This was evident when the developers implemented dedicated servers, DH, and pallet validation. We saw many killer players complain about "fairness" regarding rejected hits. We were flooded with videos of DH and pallet stuns undoing hits, and the developers just reverted some of those changes to placate Killer streamers. They also dedicated a section of a previous stream reassuring killers that your laggy connection is still king and your hits will continue to prevail! I think the pig threshold is 350 or higher for hit validation to activate, which is insanely high and why we often see generous hits land. But Survivors should accept this unfairness and no one has ever explained why. GG.
-
Absolutely should have 120, especially on PS5 Pro.

If your ping is 70 - you will not notice any difference if your ping will be 20 or 30. Asking to "lower" your ping from 70 - will not make any noticeable difference.
The "joke show" coming into play once you reach 105+ ping - this is where you will start noticing a significant delay. (nearly 1 second delay)
I personally play with 71-76 ping mostly (I suppose it's Warsaw server). Sometimes I have 89-93 (further away for some reason).
On the event mods - I usually have 110 - 125 (the main reason why I stopped playing event mods and it's not only me). And I think it's because the events are using different servers (again, for some reason).
In general 70 ping is considered normal\fine. If you have killers against you with 125 and higher - it's solely the game's issue causing the person to connect to the furthest server. I would even say - it's a bug.
Edit: OR - the person playing a killer is just having a bad network connection, ofc. But it's not always the reason.
Fair point but also why it's crazy DbD tolerates Killer players at 349!! They have a huge advantage and they are unpunished with hits. Last I checked, hit validation kicked in at 350+?

yeah you can turn off crossplay.
It's not viable because it puts you in a platform-only queue of other opt-outs. Instead, we need console-only cross-play, which excludes PC from the pool.

Bots were supposed to decrease Killer queue times but have compounded it. Hardly anyone wants to play Survivor, and bots are not making it more attractive.

Glad you are having a good time.
Is anyone having a good time? No one is playing Survivor - as is evident by the queue times and need to add Bots which still isn't doing much and the Killer queues are miserable at 15-25 minutes lol
-
Killer sided, even solo queue. The hardest part is the 15-25 min wait times. All you need to do is injure but never kill the bots. Make sure to leave one alive but ideally both so they lead you to the Survivor(s). This also guarantees no hatch, and an injured bot will always go to another Survivor; you need to watch them without getting too close. This isn't my strat, but I saw some streamers doing it, and it works perfectly if you want that guaranteed 8k.
-
The bots are awful, and to add to the lists, they also bring The Killer to you while they are injured so they can be healed. An emerging (or popular?) strategy is to injure a bot and watch them; they will go towards the other Survivor and reveal their location. Many killers are keeping them alive for this purpose, also to deny the Hatch.

You can ask any survivor who their least favorites are and legion would be in their list. Frenzy has no counterplay at all. You can't pallet stun, loop, or locker dive to save you from getting hit and put to mending.
Your argument is splitting up, but how can you split up with 7 other people on a map that's not big enough to elude a 32m terror radius? Someones bound to start beeping if one person gets hit with frenzy.
Ive instamended because in the short while of getting put into the mend state, no one is doing gens at that time to avoid legion. Can't do gens if imma bleed out.
There are already two bots in every game that don't touch anything if they hear a terror radius. Everyone's constantly mending while being chased by the second killer, so its an instadown, comboing it with frenzy. All this time and no one is doin gens. Thats my point. Ive played about 15 games and only escaped once from exit gates and once from hatch.
Every legion was accompanied by a high mobility killer, so good luck with trying to get away. Im not ranting. This is my experience playing this iteration of 2v8.
Legion was not the play here. Bots are dumb. No one is doing gens if theyre mending all the time. Killer queues are still 15-20 mins for a lobby WITH BOTS. No. Im not queueing into this game mode.
I was just in a 18 minute queue and we got two bots. The strat is leave the bot(s) alive and injure them, then watch where they go and you will find the other Survivors. They always run to someone to get healed lol It is awful, so I also won't be playing.

they go over it
what the point your making?
And with 'Favor The Killer' still being a thing, that assumes you even get the stun without getting struck.
-
The bots are not Survivor sided lol. Survivor is easy and fun, yet no one is playing, so they had to add bots. Everyone is queuing up to play The Killer - despite it being insurmountable; I guess people like the torment and unfair experience more than the easy escapes! It's interesting how this works; you would think everyone would gravitate towards the easier role.
-
The bots are useless and usually aimlessly roam the map, bringing The Killer to you when injured. Some forget to mend, or they don't cleanse after being Infected or Contaminated. I'm also noticing the trend of keeping the bots alive for the reasons others have outlined. The devs need to address why people don't want to queue for Survivor, as a 200% bonus isn't a great incentive for people swimming in BPs. Introducing useless bots and making the mode a 2v6 isn't the solution.

There's nothing really new in Chaos Shuffle, and Killers have started to realise more and more that they can just tunnel easier in this mode due to the random selections of perks. Because they don't know how to properly apply map pressure on the survivors or generators, so they got to tunnel to have a chance, might not be the same for everyone, but that's what I've been getting more and more.
Now that you mention it, the tunneling and slugging is rampant and it makes sense why. I'm not even sure the rewards in the Tome are incentive enough to put up with the experience, more than likely they'll be available next year via a code for everyone to instantly redeem anyway.

OLED is a superior display format. The panels are getting brighter, higher resolution and more capable and the contrast ratio is infinite compared to LED. I can only hope they will finally offer some HUD options for the game in general. Thanks!
-
It's never been as popular as LCD/LED due to pricing and sizing options but the technology is excellent and is improving, and prices are beginning to come down. The image quality and contrast ratio are unmatched. Either way, I would love to see some HUD options.

I would love to see The Nun (2018) featuring Sister Irene and the Abbey map. Another great choice would be The Mummy (1999); Imhotep is The Killer, with Rick and Evelyn as Survivors and pretty much any ancient Egyptian map!

Thank you for the detailed reply and source. I reviewed that FAQ; it also mentions a 60-day wait to link another account. So, I'm not certain unless I am misreading it entirely.

Many players claim they want fairness for everyone, but one of the cornerstones of fairness is the network. The game currently Favors The Killer regarding hits, which is a huge pain point for many Survivors. There's little point in pursuing a trial where The Killer has a permanent significant advantage over you. And sometimes it isn't that bad, and it's more tolerable. But other times, it is egregious and unacceptable, especially in 2024. Before adequately discussing fairness and balance, the game needs to move to Server-Side Hit Authority. Let the servers be the authority on hits so it's fair for everyone.
-
They should add more theming, including to the basement. I always thought it would be cool if the basement were personalized for each killer.

I can't imagine trying to play this game on satellite internet.
If you don't mind me asking, what region are you in? If you're getting matched up with someone is Mexico I would think you'd be hitting the NA West server.
I agree, but he does it because it works for him; he occasionally gets hit with rejected hits but said that was extremely rare. And I'm located in the Northeast US. I don't always get transoceanic killers, but those are especially painful.
@zarr said:
BHVR has been addressing a few of my most complained-about grievances with the game of late, so I hope next up is the netcode situation. While moving authority to the server completely is likely too much to hope for, they should at least improve their validation techniques and employ said validation much earlier already than only on connections exceeding some 300ms. And yes, at the very, very least they should reinstate killer ping warnings in the lobby (>100ms) - why these have been removed in the first place beggars comprehension. Ideally they would just show everyone's ping in realtime, in the lobby and in trials.
100% right!
@Sharby said:
Just show the killer's ping before the game starts, if the killer can see survivor ping and dodge accordingly I have no idea why survivors are forced to play against killers with high ping.
Bvhr knows those killers will likely never get matches, and for some reason, they want to accommodate these high-latency killer players. Who would knowingly go into a lag fest of a game where The Killer has a perpetual advantage over you? That's probably why they shield the info.
-
@ReikoMori said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3509028#Comment_3509028
Unless you can come up with a new networking solution at scale you're gonna have latency issues no matter what.
There just isn't a lot of options to be given when your smaller region lacks both available players and data center allocation. You may not get a high quality connection basically ever depending on where you are if you did restrictive matchmaking.
As for not rewarding killers with high latency, killer client is what drives the game even though we're on dedicated servers rather p2p these days. I don't see how they can change that without making things worse for y'all in low pop regions.
Latency issues will always be there, but the advantage provided doesn't have to be. Sure, it sucks if you're in a remote or rural area or a region with poor infrastructure and no server, but does everyone else have to suffer for it? The networking philosophy is called Favor The Killer and is too favorable at the expense of the Survivor experience. Hits are still handled on The Killer's end and are only server validated when the ping threshold exceeds a specific value. User tests put that number at nearly 300 ms, which is exceptionally high.
I played last night against The Clown; tough match because of his latency advantage over us. We all saw the killer latency icon throughout the Trial but could also feel he was lagging. Did the game punish him at all? Nope, he was rewarded with extremely generous hits. He was in a remote village outside of Puebla, Mexico, on satellite internet!! He told me he loves DbD because it's the only game that "works" for him since other games disconnect him or make it impossible for him to play. Why? Because DbD rewards laggy killers, and other games punish them.
I'm not sure which solution is best, but I know that providing The Killer with a perpetual advantage isn't the solution! So allow me to opt out of high latency killer lobbies, or just let me see their ping in the lobby (like before) to decide to back out. Or reduce the threshold for server validation to kick in and make it fairer.
-
The Haunted Mansion is an excellent attraction at Disney Theme Parks and would make a beautiful map. Sadly Disney doesn't associate their brand or IP with horror. We're getting Alien is a good sign for other Fox IPs. I don't think we will ever see anything Disney in DbD. Speaking of movies, what about Harry Potter in DbD? The characters would make some cool survivors and endless possibilities with magical perks.

That's an economic and business issue. AWS doesn't operate in many regions due to adverse laws, instability, poor infrastructure, and lack of demand. Many of these markets in poor regions have four-figure player counts; otherwise, it's not worth accommodating. I'm only interested in going against players with reasonable network conditions; usually, this means people within my region or market. On the other hand, perhaps if the game didn't reward high-latency killers so much, it wouldn't matter anyway.

Yeah, and the issue is inducing a lousy connection is easy. So some people intentionally use mobile hotspots to get that advantage. Bvhr needs to eliminate the lag advantage, allow us to restrict matches to high-connection quality players, or warn us that there aren't enough players in your region. Give us options, and stop rewarding high-latency killers!
-
Yeah the game froze on PS5, my friend got disconnected and penalty. My game was stuck in an endless loop of loading into the match, so I was able to close out of the app. The bots are very eager to play, I think they're the ones disconnecting players.

https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/380903/pallet-rollback-broken
Alright so I think you might be confused on something
Rollback is when a game reverts to a previous moment. To my understanding DBD doesn't really do this, but instead tries to match up the two true realities between what a survivor sees on their client and what a killer sees in their client. It tries to do this as fairly as possible, but that will result in some times getting very wonky scenarios. It's usually pretty noticeable on actions involving pallets, windows, and gen grabs. It's literally sometimes just a flat 50/50 chance whether you get grabbed/hit or vault away/stun the killer.
It doesn't try to make it fair; per the devs, that would be too frustrating for The Killer. Hits are still handled on The Killer's end unless the hit occurred due to high ping (people have tested it out, and it seems to be 250ms and above - which is extremely generous), and only then is it "validated" by the server and rejected. It's all a nothing burger for Survivors who must endure server latency, their latency, AND The Killer's unknown latency = Survivors get screwed.
@Pink_Ronin said:
Yeah I've been having this happen way more often.
Extremely noticeable with Wesker grabs
It's unacceptable! The Mastermind is especially painful when using vault perks like Lithe, Q&Q, and Dance with Me. I have successfully vaulted and triggered all three perks, am Exhausted and on CD, and then I get snapped back into his grasp on the other side of the vault. Still Exhausted and on CD, it screws me of my momentum, perks, and movement - all in the name of handling hits on The Killer's end at my expense. It wouldn't be so bad if the tick rate were higher and the "server validation" threshold was less generous for Killers.

I can confirm that they are not being removed. The DC bots are there as a backup plan: They're better than not having a teammate at all, but they aren't expected to be as good as a real player.
Beyond that, this is a multiplayer game first and foremost. Abandoning the match affects other people. The DC penalties exist to discourage people from leaving an excessive number of matches over the slightest inconveniences. Removing them would only make it more acceptable to quit and leave your teammates to play with a (possibly) less capable bot. If someone cannot be bothered to commit to a match, or has such an unstable connection that they regularly lose connection, they need to reconsider whether or not they should be playing an online game. It is not fair to expect the other people in the match to deal with the consequences because of them.
Of course the only exception for having an unstable connection is if you're playing as The Killer. In that case, the game rewards you heavily for having an unstable laggy connection. Hits are handled on The Killer's end, and survivors can't do anything about it. We have no idea how bad someone's connection is in the lobby, and even when we see the killer lag icon appear, it does nothing. It's nice to know the killer's lagging, but we don't need an icon to tell us. The game should punish those players, not reward them with hits.
