Ruin lasts until the end of a match somewhere around 50% of the time, last I checked. So no, it's not instantly cleansed every game. :)

We were testing one of the upcoming Killers, who was prototyped on an old build. Ruin was chosen, and it was the old one. Oh man I'm so glad we fixed this thing. It's way better now.

I sometimes intentionally allow Ruin to stand because I use Soul Guard. Speaking of SG, is there a reason UB one-time use is consumed while under the effects of a Hex Curse versus just redeeming SG in this case?

  • There are many different iterations, it just depends on which they decide to implement. I think the best kind is when you're able to merge all of your platform accounts into a singular account with the developer that contains all of your items. Typically you don't get any refunds during this process but it carries everything over and when there are duplicates it just deletes them. I don't see this being the version we get. I think the version we get will involve us linking all of the platform accounts to a behavior account and getting to select which of those accounts becomes the main account, basically that specific account and all of its progress is projected onto all of the linked platforms. However all of your progress and Investments would stay on that platform should you ever delink the accounts. On the other hand the progress and Investments on the platform account will be restored.

  • I'm not sure why people are making it seem like tunneling as The Executioner is such a chore. It is extremely easy with almost no cost. It really depends on the map but if you down someone in the middle, it's extremely easy to get to the cage often before someone else can get there. The other point is while playing this killer if you don't intend to hook anyone, you obviously won't equip any hook based perks. That's not the case for survivors, who may have two or three perks based on hooks that are now useless. I'm not trying to encourage tunneling cages but I have noticed that A Nurse's Calling, Bloodhound and Stridor make it so easy to run over to the cage and quickly find someone.

  • Well considering the fact they still haven't even done the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X enhancements, who knows! If anything these two upgraded consoles of this generation should have an improved experience but they still don't.

  • For some reason I read this as do pigtails kill you. I never knew the thing about the exit gate border but it makes sense because the Trap kills before the actual exit point.

  • I think it's a great idea, the perk is way too niche & ultimately useless. I tried using it and it was effective in one very specific circumstances but the planets need to be aligned to get any real use out of it. It was a face camping Leatherface and I was in the basement and there was a generator upstairs that someone was working on and everyone else got to escape. It was cool to see that happen but how often are you in that circumstance? Not enough to commit a perk to.

  • The people I play with and I are all in agreement, we are tired of running those perks but guess what they are absolutely necessary! I have played too many matches were there is no Obsession and the killer has free reign to insta tunnel. The killer decides to slug everyone and no one has Unbreakable? Yeah that's going to be fun. Unfortunately these perks are prerequisites, perhaps if Killers change their play style people could be more diverse with their perk builds.

  • I wish they would seasonally introduce Survivor Pages maybe once or twice a year. Creating a killer is more involving so I understand leaving those to full Chapters but getting an extra Survivor or two a year would be cool. I want to see more diversity in Survivors. An older lady would be nice, Bill needs someone.

I can't stand the 60 Seconds of Immunity when I'm stuck crawling for 40-50 seconds because I bring DS.

Whatever you do, don't bring UB! Last night I was insta-tunneled off the Hook within 10s during EGC with 20% left so everyone left. Slugged of course but luckily had UB and Soul Guard ready, The Plague was babysitting and vomiting on me and twirling like a ballerina. I recovered myself and she immediately struck but thanks to SG, it lunged me forward into the exit gate and I escaped. I got hate mail for being a toxic Survivor that abuses OP perks! 😅

Crossplay with everything besides mobile has been confirmed. This feature can be opped out of if you don't want to deal with the resulting balance issues.

In other games the experience for opt-out varies greatly. Some punish you by only allowing you to play against/with other opt-outs which means a very small pool (long queues) as most opt-in some games by default. Some only allow one choice, some allow you to opt-in to cross-console play but not PCs. I wonder which version DBD will have but I'm guessing it will be the all or nothing.

  • It does happen and can be annoying.

Soo the killer is getting punished for outperforming and he should be punished because survivors refused to heal and kept fixing gens?

    great survivor logic

You don't get to make up your own facts and then purport to disprove the invented facts as a basis for an argument. DS can help with being tunneled, but it is not an anti-tunnel perk. That is an important distinction. The Killer was "punished" because they chose to down and pick-up a Survivor that was rescued within the last 60s - not because the Survivor chose to work on a Generator. That is the intended mechanism of the Perk. That isn't Survivor logic, it is factual. If you want to argue the merits of the perk itself, this isn't the discussion for that. Instead this discussion was built on misinformation and again I do not feel sorry for anyone in this circumstance. Adapt and adjust, but don't cry with a made-up scenario!

  • She was unhooked and downed 30s later? And you went to go pick her up not much after that but you expect people to feel sorry for you? Aww poor you.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1366660#Comment_1366660

The difference is irrelevant, unsafe unhooks are what reward campers in the first place. The unhook gives the killers more BP (new chase and hits), more pips (again, new chase and hits), and allows them to "fast-forward" a sacrifice stage, all while generator repairs are not progressing as quickly as they should be, which also gives them more time to get more survivors.

The remedy is for all survivors to bite the bullet for once and stop rewarding campers. Suicide on the hook rewards campers. Unsafe unhooks reward campers. Not working on gens rewards campers.

And as for the "run this perk" statement, if camping were really as big of an issue as many survivors make it seem, they would definitely run perks against it. That's what players do.

Camping is way more common than face camping, which is why BT is very meta in red rank. I otherwise agree with you but you're almost never going to find four people willing to coordinate to that extent to punish the face camper. If more people did, the few face campers would probably diminish even further. My "run this perk" comment was general, which I made clear. Every issue gets told to run a perk (often to deal with a niche situation) and Survivors already have more frequent and important issues to deal with: camping, tunneling, and slugging. Which is why BT, DS and UB are so common. People want to run perks that help with frequent issues. There is no perk to deal with face campers but as I also stated, it clearly isn't enough of an issue and the devs have stated such.

  • @Orion said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1366643#Comment_1366643

You said you had to use perks like DS and BT to "counter" camping. Those perks only work if you unhook. If I'm mistaken, then please explain what it is that you do and why you need those perks to do it.

I know one person doesn't have the power to accomplish that, which is why I mentioned you should take coordination perks like Kindred. The camped survivor is just going to have to bite the bullet, like I have many times over.

I said you would have to use those perks to provide some relief. The idea that you need a perk to deal with everything is the point. This is often the go-to reply from people. "Run this perk" and at some point you run out of slots because every slot is dedicated to dealing with something out of your control. I also said camping not face camping, there's a difference. I agree, just take one for the team but that is rarely done in solo queue. Ime everyone just suicides asap. Even with Kindred, nothing can be achieved if the person suicides. I just don't see it a remedy.

  • @Orion said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1366619#Comment_1366619

That's because you're trying to feed campers by attempting unsafe unhooks. If you actually want to punish campers, you genrush.

You don't know what I do, so don't assume and look like a fool in the process.

You're speaking as if one person has the power to accomplish that. It's all up to the Survivor getting face camped (and the others to capitalize on it), but ime many attempt and then let go out of frustration. Then what? On to victim #2, assuming he doesn't just insta-suicide or DC, etc. Even the devs agree it isn't healthy or optimal but they don't see it as that effective in terms of getting kills or problematic to work on a remedy. If they saw 4ks from camping, they indicated it would be a problem.

  • @Orion said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1366477#Comment_1366477

There are many perks you can take for coordination, like Kindred.

Kindred doesn't achieve much in this circumstance, but even so doesn't really address the core issue. At this point everyone would be required to run DS, BT, and UB to provide some relief to tunnelers, campers and sluggers. And two of the aforementioned perks only work once.

  • Wow that theme is great! They need to sell it! Or allow me to purchase the Silent Hill Edition at a very reduced price since I already own everything included. @Peanits @not_Queen can you sell the PS4 dynamic theme?

  • @CaptainSkel said:

As a killer main who doesn't camp, I'm having trouble seeing the issue with it. If one survivor is being camped why doesn't everyone else just do gens and leave? I played survivor for a while and only saw one facecamp and we just left. The killer didn't get many points and that was that.

What's preventing the team from just doing gens and leaving? It sucks that there's a guaranteed death but that's how it goes.

You're simplifying the issue as if everyone is SWF. What about people that attempt and give up or DC? Not everyone is willing to sacrifice themselves so willingly. I know I do it, I will struggle until the last drop and hope the three escape. Also from the perspective of the Survivor being camped, not fun. Imo the game doesn't do enough to discourage this behavior.

  • Thanks for this, was nice to read about it.

@BigBrainMegMain yeah that and some good questions about hit validation and PS5 were ignored. Reminds me of the twitter Q&A for another game where the dev was taking questions. He only replied to easy and obvious ones like "When does the DLC release?" but nothing important. Most of these Q&A events answer nonsense questions that is already known info. Or they use your question but don't even answer it. My question was used last time but the answer didn't fully address it.

This is EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED WITH SPIRIT, and it's pissing me off.

WAIT for counterplay to be developed (generally takes about a month) BEFORE complaining.

I render your point invalid until then.

You can't render it invalid, not saying it is valid but consider The Spirit. A lot of the early feedback complained about vault window (where she didn't vault and would pause) and lack of collision during phasing. Prayer Beads was also a headache add-on people hated. Yet many people replied that it was too early for cry nerf, wait and see, you need to develop strategies on how to deal with her. Then low and behold, many of that early previously declared as void feedback was suddenly valid and materialized into balance changes. The early feedback didn't change over time, the only change was more and more people were in agreement with it.

Again not saying I agree with nerf calls for PH but I do disagree that feedback or suggestions are too early. Some people are very insightful and prophetic in their suggestions so who knows what will happen.

  • I'm not sure if they actually do anything because a friend of mine tested out by working with The Killer and showing where someone was on a dummy account and had the other Survivor report it, three months later nothing ever happened to his dummy account. Yet the ticket was updated in May as solved.

I don't want you to take this as me calling you wrong, because for all I know you're right, but can you direct me to this "confirmation"?

As long as I have things that shouldn't happen as killer keep happening to me, I'm not going to buy into that. Every time I go into a grab animation and have it cancelled, losing me both a grab and a hit, it makes it that much more hard to believe that servers "favor The Killer."

Even then, lets say you are right, and that there's "many factors" that go into it... Isn't that what I was saying? That it's not just the killer's internet?

No it's beyond that but the grab and DH things are known issues. Here is one https://youtu.be/A8SwqJJKlaY?t=1024 but there is another segment about it. Watch that, it's very interesting.

  • Not always viable to crouch during an active chase. Maybe Cheryl needed a perk "Impervious to Judgement." Not serious btw but yeah, maybe I will try UE.

  • I always look while on a Hook lol Especially if they have the Tier 70 charm on day one, then I know this person paid 100 Auric Cells per tier.

    @Huff said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1366320#Comment_1366320

Mmm, I don't think so. Otherwise killers wouldn't be complaining about getting screwed out of so many grabs. Plus, I've seen multiple players here (including myself) that have had experiences on survivor where they'll get hit from a long distance away from a window as well as playing killer and getting hits or grabs stolen from them. Even something that 100% should work in some niche cases like hitting a survivor with Plague's puke/Clown's bottle, etc. and having them scream, the survivor might not even be affected. Like, I've had games of my own and seen other peoples' games where the will play Plague, puke directly on a survivor, the survivor will wave their arms around and yell out like they got hit, and they still won't get infect. Now hopefully you can explain to me how those examples show that the servers "favor what The Killer sees."

My point is, maybe if there's a hit that's happening from far away, the killer's internet might not be the only possible thing wrong. My internet if perfectly fine and I'll still have a connection of 100+ ping frequently, because that's just how the servers are.

Nope, it is confirmed the servers favor The Killer. This doesn't mean that every hit will prevail in every circumstance, many factors go into the equation such as latency. However it's the networking algorithm for the game currently but that will eventually change with the implementation of hit validation.

A PH will not always tunnel though. Just like not every bubba will camp. Just because the killer can be toxic and tunnel/camp effectively doesn't mean they'll all do it. The cages also don't proc killer perks either. Devour hope and BBQ and every other hook perk is completely useless if the PH wants to tunnel you. I think it should count as a hook, but I'm not against it being treated differently.

True but that implies The Executioner will have wasted perks, all he has to do is not equip hook based perks. So it's not exactly one in the same.

    @ACTIV3_GNASHER said:

But his cages send you to the other side of the map. If he gets to you before your teammates do that’s their fault.

Not true, I know because I have rushed to a Cage of Atonement and beat Survivors there many times. It's incidental if someone happens to be near but that is't always the case. It actually is the easiest tunnel to send someone to a CoA, especially in the middle of the map.

  • @Arctic_Krampus said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/162262/no-borrowed-time-from-cage-rescue

As far as I know with the cages, Borrowed Time, Decisive Strike, and We're Gonna Farm Forever. I've also noticed that when Adrenaline activates when on a hook, I come off the hook healthy and with a speed boost. When Adrenaline activates when I'm in a cage, I don't gain a health state or speed boost when rescued. Killer perks like BBQ and Chili also don't work with the cages.

That's true about hook based perks not working for The Killer but a key difference is that when someone plays as The Executioner, they have the discretion not to use any.

  • @BigBrainMegMain said:

    Keep in mind.

VPN has been getting more and more popular.

Streamers complain about it, forums complain about it, so more and more killers will catch on and will start using it.

I haven't been playing survivor, Thank God, because I believe it's getting worse and worse.

AND with this Tome, facing Huntress has been a literal nightmare I've stopped playing survivor altogether.

The Huntress is a nightmare without hit validation. Those Hatchets go around corners like they have a homing beacon.

    @Huff said:

Ever consider that maybe it's not the killer's internet that's at fault?

The servers favor what The Killer sees and they have a significant advantage when they lag. Lots of videos about how to game the system when you're The Killer. I'm unaware of any ways to manipulate your network to gain an advantage as a Survivor.

  • @TragicSolitude said:

iirc, it used to be 100 for all systems. However, it was realized that that was a crazy ask, so it was lowered to 20. Unfortunately, Sony will only let games change an achievement if an achievement becomes literally impossible to unlock. Sucks for us unlucky souls on PS4.

Sony is very controlling and demanding. One game dev revealed Sony was a PITA to deal with regarding patches and DLC. Blizzard revealed Sony didn't allow them to add trophies for holiday special events because they don't allow limited time trophies even if the events returns every year. So on PS4, no event trophies but Xbox has event achievements. When they adjusted some trophies to make them easier, Microsoft approved the change but Sony took six weeks to approve the change and only because people were complaining on social media. Sony has also dragged its feet on cross-play and cross-saves. Awesomenauts had patch drama, everyone approved it but Sony was holding it up in QA for weeks. They announced it on Twitter that PS4 would be delayed bc of Sony and people were very unhappy, so then Sony approved the patch and it went live the next day lol So I can easily believe Sony is blocking the reduction to 20 for this trophy.

  • @Ghosty123 said:

Yes its a pain but no killer perks work for cages either e.g devour hope

True but the difference is if The Killer happens to be The Executioner, he can specifically avoid using Perks based on hooking people. So there is no wasted perks in that case. Not so for Survivors who often must equip hook based perks in order to have a chance. I know people here like to act surprised but the reality (at least on PS4) is that DS and BT are prerequisites. Even Unbreakable and Soul Guard are unfortunately very useful!

DS is not an anit-tunnel perk. But it is one of the only recourses for tunneling available. Kind of hard to see where you don't understand that distinction or why breaking part of its functionality is unacceptable.

That's a good and important point to note.

  • I haven't heard about any nerf but I do remember on one of the streams were discussing mobility and not wanting The Killer to have so much (iirc it was The Spirit and why she couldn't Phase the entire map) and that The Hillbilly does have a lot of mobility. No hints or any thing about a nerf but maybe if a nerf was incoming, that's what it would involve.

I gotta disagree with your second paragraph. You are saying the ends justify the means which is just something I will never believe.

I believe people will be more alert and open to change when it comes naturally. Nobody likes to be told what is supposed to be right or wrong.

What wrong is being committed exactly? Because that's what "the ends justify the means" is about. A company announcing support for a cause because the world has shifted on a subject? That's the nature of things. Even most religions gain "new insights" on topics or soften a stance in an effort to survive and stay relevant. Look up the Mormon Church and Black people in the 80s, lost of good reading there. Publicly it was a shift to be inclusive and loving for all God's children but internal a desire to survive as exclusion was no longer palatable. I can't think of any company that truly does anything out of charity, even charity efforts are solely to achieve favorable perception or brand awareness. I just don't see this changing and why now? It's what happened for racism, women's rights, etc but suddenly there is a problem when companies do support LGBTQ.

EDIT: I just gave it more thought and there were some companies that did support equality when it wasn't that popular. The Walt Disney Company is one such that has been offering equal benefits since the 90s? Most didn't have a stance but then later emerged as supporters, mainly when the climate was right to avoid hurting business.

A good society makes sure the minority has equal rights, it does not mean I need to be "alerted" to anything. Otherwise everything is an alert and the individual is supposed to too toe around everything.

I'm not trying to be ride, but I think you missed my point. My last post was saying Boone cares if you put a gay couple in a commercial. Campbell soup did it a couple years ago and guess what, they still sold soup. They didn't go on Twitter and say " look at our new commercial featuring two dudes kissing, aren't we inclusive."

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1366088#Comment_1366088

This dude said it perfectly. Do something because it's right, not because you want attention.

By "alert" I mean exactly that. I was simplifying the conversation but that refers to the first step in accomplishing getting those equal rights. It's about bringing awareness and being accustomed to differences. People don't win rights overnight. Those media campaigns are important in a societal shift. Not to mention the fact that the alert also refers to the legal process of the courts putting the gov on "alert" about classes of people.

The second part, the reason why they support equality is immaterial if it accomplishes something good. When big corps were in favor of same-sex marriage, did I think it was out of charity or goodness? No, I knew it was because there was change and they didn't want to be left behind on the wrong side of history for the sole purpose of profit and money. Yet does that really matter? So if companies want to be inclusive to earn points or increase sales, makes no difference bc something greater is achieved when more people/corps support a cause.

Because survivors used to be well written and vague enough to be blank slate. No character to my knowledge is blatantly heterosexual, because there's no point in talking about it in DBD. It's not the game to bring up sexuality and race politics. It just feels shoehorned. Head canon it if you want, but don't make it a point into every players face.

Tbh idk, I can't think if any have SO's or hints about love life. However I would be ok if an existing or new character had lore that identifies this information, especially to advance their story.

True but that beats dying on your first hook while mashing a button to fight The Entity and getting 2,000 points and losing a Pip.

Pandering of any kind annoys me. People's right to be represented doesn't trump my right to not be force feed other's opinions and preferences. A good person does what is right because it is right, not so they can announce it to people for virtue points. But hey that is just my opinion and like ALL other opinions it stinks. :)

That's fine but that right doesn't exist. No one here is captive. Instead you would have to decide whether to play or not if you felt a media platform or game or whatever doesn't align with your personal interests.

I agree. Games used to be something used to escape reality, but now times are different. Games/Movies/People/Companies can't just be apolitical anymore, because if you're not with us, then you're against us.

I have nothing against the LGBT community. I'm actually friends with a lot of people in the queer art scene in Seattle. And I think there's potential for gay characters and representation... In the right games, with the right execution. Which I feel isn't something capitalized on a lot. Really, why DBD of all games? I get realistically it's because the devs themselves support LGBT, but does that really make it fitting?

What exactly do you mean? If they revealed X is gay, nothing would change. You make it seem like some Lore would materially change the game. DBD is the perfect game, it features human characters with past lives and stories. Why can't some of them happen to be straight or gay? Not to mention the fact that you claim to have LGBTQ friends, as if that shields your comments from scrutiny or gives you greater credibility or less bias. In fact imo it comes across as highly suspect. It's like the people that engage or make racial statements but declare "I'm not racist, I donate to the NAACP." It's an attempt to insulate their comments or actions so that their declaration means they couldn't possibly be homophobic or racist.

People are not using the phrase "shove down your throat" properly. Statistically, most people identify as heterosexual so from a marketing and communication standpoint, most ads or media will depict straight relationships. That's not shoving anything downs anyone's throat. When a commercial features a gay couple kissing, that is not shoving anything down people's throat either, unless the whole point of the ad is to show you "look, we have gay people." That is the issue here

You're right, SDYT means to force or compel you to accept endure or consider something. Your majoritarianism point actually works in reverse, a good society recognizes that need to put the majority population on "alert" about minorities and other classes of persons. This includes basically saying exactly what you stated. It's a broader issue from the "compassionate but disagree" people, they consider everything as SDYT and often want to shield their views behind a desire to keep X out of the discussion. If you're X, stay in the shadows, etc.

  • Did you verify his Perks at the end? What was he running? It's possible he has Tinkerer and someone got a Gen to 85%? I only ask because most people don't consider that a stealth perk.

Proper resolution settings, a proper full screen mode, anti aliasing options, texture quality options, anti aliasing options, bloom options, lighting quality, HDR lighting options, shadow texture options, particle density, fog quality, view quality, ambient occlusion, antiscopic filtering, frame rate caps, V-sync options--

All we literally have is a "quality" settings of low, med, high and ultra, a "full screen" option that actually makes the game borderless windowed mode, and a BAR for our resolution settings. THAT'S IT. The only way to get bypassed all of this is to change an .ini file which we are threatened that we may be banned for if we change.

I'm on PS4, so those options wouldn't exist for me anyway. Hopefully with the transition to Next Generation game consoles, a lot of the stuff won't be an issue. Otherwise I agree with you, I think it would be great to have those options. I really hope for 4k 60fps on PS5 and HDR would be really awesome.

Adding proper options to the options menu would also be very important to their interests, but we still don't have that yet. And it'd be far cheaper and do much more good than dedicated servers have ever done in their current implementation, imo.

I don't think BHVR is being charitable by the way. Far from it. I've criticized time and time again the Rift, let alone the obscene amount of grinding that must be done and locking a BP perk like BBQ behind a paywall, and I'm still pissed about how we were lied to that the launch of the dedicated servers were launched with the pretense of them being "a test", but we can't deny that as bad as the servers are, they're still much better than the P2P system we had before. Which is an unfortunate bitter pill to swallow as having to say getting hit from this far away from windows is "better than before" but that's the unfortunate truth, as it's still better than being hit from across the entire map whenever the killer wanted to.

What proper options are missing? It's obviously not that important because people aren't defecting from the game. Those are the issues that are more compelling even if they cost money to remedy. Issues that result in defections from the game. Unfortunately players are very resilient to issues like bad options or control configurations or settings. Those issues have not been proven to be compelling enough for players to stop playing a game. However when players perceive unfairness, that's a huge driver and motivation. I'm not in the video game industry but I've been very interested in it, so I've read many white papers and studies. It's very interesting because you see what are the primary motivators for players and how to get them engaged and what to do keep them loyal.

  • Yeah it's just a big quality of life issue for the person being face camped. Often times it's frustrating and unfun for that person. I think the issue is that it should always be an option but the price isn't quite there. It's behavior that truly should be discouraged and very punishing and the existing experience isn't punishing enough. And just to clarify, punishment doesn't mean ban or suspended. I just think that the in-game experience makes it rewarding in many cases.

I somewhat agree with you , I could care less what sexual preference a character has just please dont shove it down my throat .

Sexual orientation. It's always interesting that people say that but yet society and media shove heterosexuality down our throats. But apparently that's okay, it's just an issue when it's other sexual orientations. You see it in commercials all the time, opposite-sex couples kissing making out hugging in bed, no problem! But a same-sex couple in the same exact commercials? They're shoving it down my throat, it's in your face! With that said I do think it's important to have more representation. And who's to say that the characters are gay or lesbian or bisexual but the information just hasn't been made known yet? It happens in other games and movies and media platforms. Sometimes characters are simply in the closet and they weren't ready to identify themselves. It's not always about trying to retroactively adhere to demands or expectations to change or alter characters. There's also the issue of maybe they were lying or in denial? Even in real life you run into that, there are people who have denied their sexual orientation for decades.
