I had to uninstall the game as from my experience DBD has the most toxic players i have ever seen from any game for just playing my role and I'm trying not to play scummy either. Reporting them feels like it's doing nothing when it's so rampant and so common to have players to go end yourself irl or other horrible slurs. Other games take this issue seriously with quick punishment ban or restrictions on chatting or playing the game and notifying the players that action was taken some games like league of legends have a honor system to help encourage better behavior. DBD though? Absolutely nothing…
I've always said they need to overhaul the post-game thumbs up system. Surely it's not hard to do. Have it give 'reputation' or 'good sportsmanship' points that, at monthly reset, give something extra like shards or a bp boost. If you get enough points maybe you can get a special badge. It won't solve the problem of bad sportsmanship or bad manners, but I guarantee you'll probably see less instances of it.
-
Like I always tell my kids - you can't control someone elses behaviour, you can only control how you react to it. Tbagging doesn't bother me, but if the Sable was tough to catch then move onto a different survivor. She was trying to tilt you and get you to stay on her because she was confident in her chase abilities. Looks like she succeeded, and you ended up DCing. Honestly, go find a different survivor. As for post-game chat, if they were being particularly nasty then you can report them as the devs have access to chat logs. But sounds like best thing would be to just avoid the chat altogether.
-
I don't really enjoy this event as either role
-
DCs (and therefore bots) aren't included in official stats/kill rates that are used for balancing purposes. Devs have said that before

Im not sure how many people visit the forums regularly. But posts ive made or comments ive made usualy only end up with 1 up or downvote from the op of a discussion or the topic k chose for mine. Have probably never seen more than 10 or down or up votes so i don't see how theyd be usefull for data when there's barely any of the community clicking the buttons.
Even the polls section usualy gets like 1-8 people maximum to participate depending on the topic, and then it gets burried and abandoned.
Considering its a game played by thousands, its odd how few people interact here.
"Considering its a game played by thousands, its odd how few people interact here"
It used to be a lot busier back in the day. It's died off over the last year or so.

Some people just want to win really really badly, and will take any and all measures available to do so. Stream sniping is just a risk you take
-
The devs have already said they're no longer looking into tunnelling, after they gave up on their proposed anti-tunnelling measures. So it's here to stay. They might look at providing better counters via perks but who knows at this stage, they might also just do nothing. Honestly, if it's getting to you that much I'd just find something else to play.

I've run into it too and also reported it. Nothing is being done about it. I ran into the same account this morning, using The Spirit and knowing where everyone is. The site is also selling cheats, like $5 for a permanent aura read mod, and it even suggests running Aura perks to give the illusion that you're not cheating. It lists recommendations like opening other lockers and appear to be searching an area you know a Survivor is in to give the false impression that you accidentally found them.
This is a byproduct of allowing hits to be handled on The Killer's machine. The game needs to move to full server authority for hits with nothing handled on the user's end due to abuse.
I went against a Wesker clearly using that cheat. Dude went overkill with trying to cover it up, had both BBQ and FTTE. He didn't know i had Self Preservation obviously lol I hope he saw it post-game and got a bit worried
-
I actually don't mind it, having played on it several times on both sides. There are some strong tiles for sure but also some very weak ones.
-
For me they're just to direct survivors away from nearby loops while in chase

Because this keeps happening. Fog vials were complained about being "annoying" and were obliterated. Even now, finally getting evened out, they are still trash. I snort every time someone uses one against me. Many people thought the anti-tunnel just needed number adjustments, but the outcry nuked that. What's the last outcry that helped survivor? Legion being removed from 2v8? Amazing, a temp mode. Maybe Skull Merchant? How long ago was that?
My bias isn't towards the killer role. If anything, it's towards certain people who play it. It's supposed to the the strong role that manages the map, applies pressures, tracks events, juggles four opponents. It's not supposed to be the whiny-baby-who-wants-everything-for-free role. My killer got nerfed recently. I didn't whine about it, I didn't make threads calling it unfair while survivors have this and that and that. I just accepted it. It's the survivor side that needs help, and it just can't seem to get a single thing, not even a mediocre perk.
I think you and I are more old school gamers. To us, we grew up putting in the time, building the skill, then getting the pay off. I think modern gaming is more about instant gratification. People want it to be easier for themselves, and they struggle to understand that their opponents also want it easier so it's a constant tug of war in pvp.

No point, Ghoul still makes money. Everyone who wanted to buy Yun-Jin already has, and i guess they realized that over the last couple weeks.

Right so you believe it has dropped off cause in your games you have seen less of it in use and you personally arent getting any use of the perk im sorry that just bad data, as i can say that in my personal games i seen it used in a majority of my games a mininum of 1-2 survivors using it and it has a huge impact in my games as a killer which is actually acurate
that why i went to nightlight while it doesnt give the whole picture since it looks only at steam, its not influenced by personal experience its every game and that what the results shows
fast track in its current state with permenant progression that you get from killer doing their job is not healthy for the game at all it needs the nerf and im glad to see it getting a nerf and i hope the nerf is a strong one ie remove the permenat progression .
Nightlight is voluntary information, as in people have to upload their info to the site. It's a tiny sample size of dedicated players, nothing more.

Half-true. Survivors get also the option to abandon when all the other survivors are bots.
On that case the game is not over (as you did describe a game being over when everyone was down, dead or hooked) and the game can definetly keep progressing at that point.
And killers have the option to abandon when all survivors are bots

I think I'm one of those rare folk who doesn't mind Badham as either killer or survivor, but miss me with Nostromo. It's an eyesore and I get it way too much.

Accept that doesn't really work anymore? Cause if they're being persistent and you slug them they can just abandon giving them what they want it really is a lose lose situation
Abandoning when being slugged really needs to go
I don't repeatedly slug because I don't have to, as I've said, vast majority of the time they play as normal once their team mate has picked them up. I'll add that we are talking about a very rare event here. I very rarely have people ask to leave early game. So it's even rarer that they're persistent enough that I have to down them to get them out of my face. If I ever do repeatedly down them and they abandon then i think that's fine, the team gets a bot.
I also play survivor, and have done so for over 5 years. I have more survivor hours than killer. And I cannot think of any one game where I have attempted to give up at the start of the game. It is really not hard to see how the game plays out before deciding it's a lost cause. I am one of 5 individuals who are choosing to spend their undoubtedly limited free time together. Respect for each other's time is just common courtesy.

Not "rubbish" at all. The killer knows the survivor wants to leave because their build is either completely oppressive or designed to be miserable. Telling them to "take the DC penalty" when a killer can hold a survivor soft locked into a match if they so choose out of pure spite is definitely an opinion of all time.
It is rubbish, because your initial post was made on complete assumptions. I don't play Blight, I don't tunnel, and I don't use oppressive builds. I do take issue with survivors making assumptions about my gameplay when the game has just started. And I'm sorry, but the killer isn’t your mother and you don't need to ask their permission to leave a match when you have a perfectly good out available to you. You expect a kindness in being allowed to avoid the DC penalty while simultaneously being unkind to your team mates by leaving them a man short early game.
And as I said, a sweaty Blight running 4 slowdowns will absolutely take the free kill you offer. They're playing to win and you're handing them an easy win. I doubt you will have any issue being soft locked into such a game.
-
If you have info then message the community managers directly. But yes, there are problematic people in the Creator program. I don't think their vetting process was very thorough.

It's not compassion, it is spite. These types of killers think the people who want to leave because 4 slowdown blights have already sacrificed a survivor at 5 gens are "ruining the game" and so they will hold them in the lobby to flex the fact that killer has all the power in determining who gets to stay in a match, as well as morally grandstanding. Also some killers just do it because they know they are further ruining someone's else's time, and some killer mains get enjoyment out of that.
Oh rubbish. If you want to leave the game that badly then just DC. A sweaty blight running 4 slowdowns will undoubtedly be happy to take a free kill.
-
@random1543 said:
As a mainly survivor player I'm curious why do you guys ignore them or slug them at the start of the game? Is it more of a compassionate view to give them a chance to decide to play the match normally?
Because if they do nothing but run up to you until death they should get hit with the go next prevention if they do it frequently. vs if you slug them they can get a abandon condition and leave for free if they continue to get picked up by team then slugged again.https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4069862#Comment_4069862

I don't want to reward bad sportsmanship by giving them what they want and leaving their team mates in the lurch. I'm also giving them a grace period to get over whatever their issue is and get on board with playing the game with the rest of us. In my experience, the vast majority do end up playing normally after that small bump, so that's why I continue to do it.

The fake friendlies are the worst. I haven't had one in a long while, but I'm still cautious of friendly killers, especially when they're friendly from the get-go and there wasn't some turning point. I also used to get ones that would go AFK until the gens finished and then come to life with everyone goofing off around them and then down the whole team with NOED. Matches like that gave me trust issues.
Oh yeah, I have trust issues with afk killers too lol though I can honestly say i can't recall one in recent memory that ever suddenly came back for endgame. Still sus though
-
If it's the start of the game, i ignore them. If they're being particularly persistent then I'll slug them. They usually start playing normally after that. Less often they'll DC. If it's late game and they've clearly lost then I'll hook them so they can get to their next game

I wish they took the time and effort to properly balance maps so they don’t feel one sided for any role instead of nerfing map offerings.
Yeah, but there will always be complaints. It's unavoidable. Maps with too much clutter get complaints from ranged killers, while maps with too little clutter get complaints from stealth killers. There isn't a perfect solution. I do agree with OP, I wouldn't care if they just removed the offerings. Or at least gave us an option to sell unused offerings because i have way too many.
-
That would just be legitimising ragequitting. The game isn't over just because gens got done. The killer's objective is killing survivors. Survivors get the option to abandon when the game is over (everyone down, dead, or hooked) because the game literally cannot progress at that point. The game is still in progress even when the last gen pops.

Yes and OP said this youtuber was a consultant and the title still got to be click baiting 😂
There's someone on their creator program whose content is literally scouring the DBD community (this forum, reddit, etc) and targeting people. I don't think BHVR are too picky lol
-
I hate farming and will make it clear, on both sides, that I'm not interested. As survivor, I just smash the gens and leave. I can only recall one match a loooong time ago where they seemed to take it personally that I didnt want to farm, but I ended up just afking and folding/putting away some laundry. I also remember one game being sus on the farming Pig they were working with, especially how close she was hovering when they came and joined me on the last gen. So I left and went near an exit gate, and sure enough she had NOED and endgame perks. I was the only escape lol
-
Or they're simply measures to keep players from being put off or driven away from the game. They're a business at the end of the day.

Lol my thoughts exactly. Pig is one of my mains and the jigsaw boxes give her away pretty quick anyway. I think GF and Myers might be the only ones that don't have any immediate tells?

Eh I'm not bothered. And I do bring selfish perks at times after a number of rough games in a row. I still pull my weight. I would hope that any folks that do consider sandbagging etc realize that if it does happen too often then BHVR will just revert it. So they'd be shooting themselves in the foot.
-
I've said before that this was one of those 'be careful what you wish for' scenarios. Too many people demanded addressing stacking perks for their opponents, but it was only ever going to go both ways. They weren't just going to address one side and leave the other.
-
I haven't seen it often, but i suppose it's just people trying to make their own fun. Unfortunately it's usually at the expense of others.

You realize blood gens are faster right?
I didnt actually, because the pumps are so far away that not only is it a decent trek to carry blood, you wind up getting interrupted constantly, the gen can get blocked and regressed in the time you're away, and all of that combines to draw the game out. My matches have been far longer in the event mode than they are in normal mode.

Another reason why this community is the worst.
You guys saw a perk that could share stealth, a perk that gives you an uber stun and a crow based perk (granted, the haste sucked), and went, NAH, another batch of generic meta perks it is.
I don't want anyone complaining about the perks when this chapter comes out, YOU DID THIS.
Well I didn't vote for these ones, don't lump me in 🤣

It just goes to show - the devs can slow gens down yet most players will still stack gen regression perks. Lots of people telling on themselves in this mode

I don't want any deleted, but changes are needed on some.
Badham definitely could use a huge overhaul. At the very least, gens on only two levels instead of three would be nice. Multiple loopable building is just ridiculous too. It was fine when Haddonfield balanced it out but that's done now.
I'd also like there to be more ways into the bottom of Forgotten Ruins. As it is, killer's can camp the portal entrance and still check the stairs, and those are the only ways in.
Fallen Refuge map is beyond embarrassing. Like that thing is a disgrace. They need to pretty much redo it from the ground up. Everytime I load in im like
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/0I22NHDIK8WY/actor-john-cena-eww-reaction-84g1ffbv4okonmfd.gif
Fallen Refuge feels to me like BHVR forgot they agreed to a map in their WD contract, so quickly threw one together last minute lol
-
I don't see tunnelling enough in my solo q games to bring it. Also, this is gonna sound pretty mean I know, but there's alot of players not worth taking a hook state for. If it's a good looper who will buy us time then sure, but if they're a good looper then StB probably isn't necessary to bring anyway.

this game has been eating away at my mental health and I just can't for now
Sorry to hear this. Taking a break is a healthy choice and you can always choose to come back at a later time. No game is worth your mental health.
It just seems like the devs care more about making a buck
I definitely agree with this, and I think there's another issue that largely gets overlooked about this game: there is no actual design philosophy of DbD.
What I mean there is that the devs don't appear to have any cohesive direction that guides the game design internally.
BHVR never seems to ask the question "how do we want our game to be played" and balance or design around that. BHVR appears to ask "how do our players want to continue paying us for this game we have".
Something like path of exile (grinding gear games) puts a ton of effort into game design. They have such a clear idea of how they want their game to look that they put out "development manifestos" which are huge, lengthy explanations of most every detail of a game mechanic or system to explain why they did it the way they did, and why they steered clear of doing it any another way. And while I don't always agree with their choice, I at least can understand where they are coming from and see that they have thought through every detail and nuance.
BHVR does not do this. There is, from the outside, zero direction for the game - aside from "do what makes money". That's the only thing that makes sense with what we see regularly here.
Because what happens when you have a consistent game direction and design is that the community isn't creating it for you. The loudest voices can't just scream and shut down months of development work because you should be able to address those concerns with "this is how we want you to play the game, so it's fun and fair, and these changes support that desire and design".
I don't believe BHVR has ever done this. They don't know how people "should" be playing the game, because the design is apparently "do whatever makes money". They have no answer to "what does the ideal match of DbD play out like". DbD is more of a creative sandbox for "do whatever you want as long as you're buying things". And you can see this in other games they've done (specifically death garden and meet your maker) where they do the exact same thing, just haven't lucked into a fun gameplay loop.
They cater hard to community outcry because they have no idea what the game should be, but they know what people will continue to pay for.
"Because what happens when you have a consistent game direction and design is that the community isn't creating it for you. The loudest voices can't just scream and shut down months of development"
Once upon a time they did just have a goal, implement it, and too damn bad if you hated it.The notorious update 6.1 is a good example, the SBMM change as well. I think the last couple of years though it has been just as you said - the community is making the decisions for them. Couple of reasons I think. First, they probably didn't expect this game to last this long so they think if it's not broken, don't fix it. And second, I think new player retention is probably very low, so their focus is on keeping the long time players happy so they stick around, keep buying, and keep the game trudging along.

I've seen you say many times that you tunnel. So I don't buy that this perk has suddenly forced you to

Yes OP, playing a new killer and handicapping yourself with no perks will likely cost you the game.

Alot of people don't bother to learn how these perks work, they just complain because their favourite YouTubers tells them to

I can't tell if this is sarcasm, haha.
The video I linked prior was DocDBD, I only broke it down for people to understand why he did what he did in the videos. (he is the one pallet stunning Nurse)
I do not go out of my way to do it because most of the time I'm playing pubs or just playing with friends here and there when they ask me to play. Pallet stunning Nurse is a very high risk, low reward play as you would need pitch-perfect timing that I will acknowledge that I do not have like Doc does as I do not do 1v1s like a lot of the high MMR community does. So, my experience is primarily soloq brained - I've said for the longest that I probably have more hours in soloq than SWF, so I have a lot of ingrained rules in my head to do in both SWF and soloq. 😊 People really underestimate how much is involved with survivor gameplay, the same being killer gameplay - the difference, however, is that I do not belittle killer mains for their misplays like I see killer mains do to their peers.
Maybe it's the mentality, killer is their own - so, in their minds - if you misplay with Kaneki, you're disowned and don't own you. Same for Blight, Nurse, The First, etc. If you struggle, I'll give you tips on both ends, I don't discriminate because I believe both roles should opt to want to learn rather than blaming the other role for their loss - this is what leads to stagnation and burnt out, which is a major issue in the game (which I have spoken about before but I digress).
But thank you for the compliment regardless, I can never tell when someone is trying to attempt to put me in a "gotcha" scenario on here. I'll blame that on my Political Science degree, but I appreciate the love, @Nazzzak ❤️
No worries, I understand ❤️ definitely wasn't sarcasm. There's alot of great DBD players in this community (full disclosure, I'm not one of them lol) so wanted to give credit where it was due
