  • We need to not tolerate it as a community. I got dragged over the coals once for saying I don't give in to early game giving up. If a survivor runs up to me early game and wants me to hook them, I refuse and ignore them. It doesn't happen often, and usually ignoring them is enough for them to play normally. Late game, where it's clear the game is over, whatever, I get it and I'll do it. But as far as I'm concerned, it's 5 people who load up in their limited free time to play together, and i hate when 1 person wants to derail the game when it's just started. We have a warning system here on this forum for bad behaviour, they can at least have a warning system in game (when given video evidence of course) for repeat offenders.

If you're talking about the theory I've seen…

It relies on an assumption by dividing it by 13 (which we can't know, unless you already assume it's gonna be f13),

Plus it results in syntactic inconsistency. JVAGJ - 'Jason Voorhees, And Ginny & Jarvis'… has two 'ands', but only one is covered in the acronym, which doesn't make sense.

Apparently 13 is the only number it's actually divisible by.

But other than that, I agree that the solution is a reach.

Yeah, people don't seem to - or want to - get that. The current "slug fest" that some killer players are doing doesn't come from nowehere: it an answer to a meta that let killers in disadvantage if they hook. It easier to deal with 4 Unbreakables than with 4 DS, OTR, DH, Resurgence, and some Shoulder the Burden.

The devs can't just slap "anti-x" system without thinking on what consequences it will bring to the game, specially long time consequences and on high level. People already weaponize enough Anti-tunnel, anti-slug perks and even the basekit BT. Adding new systems without thinking on consequences will just make the game worse.

Except they can. Did they care about the whys of people letting go on hook before removing the 4% mechanic to force people to do their objective? Nope. Did they care about the whys of the DC epidemic before the recent 20 match degradation penslty to force people to do their objective? Nope. Did they care about the whys of the 3-gen-from-the-start strat before the 8 gen regression limit to force people to do their objective? Nope. Did they look into the whys of the last two survivors having to hide and outlast each other before the idle crows update that forces them to do their objective? Nope.

But yeah, I'm sure you're right that BHVR will address your issues and not just implement changes that force you to do your objective

I'm actually getting downvoted for saying Castlevania isn't a horror game when the game itself is labeled as an Adventurer/2D platformer. That's literally what it says on the digital stores lol. Like I said, it's just bias against Star Wars. I don't even like Star Wars, but if you're gonna accept Castlevania and Tomb Raider then don't try to gatekeep Star Wars. DnD is literally in this game for goodness sake.

"but if you're gonna accept Castlevania and Tomb Raider then don't try to gatekeep Star Wars. DnD is literally in this game for goodness sake"

You just gonna straight up ignore that these aforementioned licenses caused plenty of the same debate in the community? Once the devs have made up their mind and put time and money into a release, they're not going to suddenly pull it. So "accepting" these licenses is a stretch when the community ultimately had no say. Plenty of folks felt they didn't belong, but I'll be honest and say they're all alot more horror than Star Wars.

The anti-BMing aspect of this killer is nothing short of embarrassing. They really caved to people crying about tbagging. It doesn't even make sense from a narrative perspective. The survivors are sinful for squatting and pointing, but they're also innocent people trapped in a hellish nightmare trying not to be murdered, so how sinful all they, really?

I think it'll end up backfiring and people will overly BM the killer instead, since it pretty much confirms those tactics successfully tilt. Trolls don't care if they escape or not.

  • I think the ewoks opened that realm of possibility for them, but it took them many many years to capitalise on that

I think most people get why the vibe is off here. Star Wars isn't just kiddie and not horror, it's next to Marvel as one of the world's most soulless, cash grabby franchises. Vecna works because DnD is still kinda of a niche, nerd thing. Most people probably didn't know who he was before he was added (or before Stranger Things). Star Wars comes with tons of corporate baggage and pre-determined feelings, much of which centers around cutsy stuff like jokey robots and baby aliens.

Blown away that you have downvotes. I'm an older millennial and LOVE Star Wars, it has always been a big part of my life, but modern Star Wars is 100% merchandise advertising wrapped up as entertainment.

  • The prospect of Darth Vader coming to a horror game before Jason is kind of crazy to me..

  • I love playing him tbh, but after Myers got reworked I remember thinking to myself 'oh so this is how GeneralV felt' because I remembered how much Freddy's rework ruined him for you

If I remember correctly, you could vote for the Boon-Perk or the Crow-Perk. I voted for the Crow-Perk, simply because I thought that Crows are underused and Boon-Perks are terrible anyway. But I was not prepared for THAT Boon-Perk, this is a Killer Perk, without a doubt. Even tho I have seen people saying that the Perk is strong because of the Perma Gen Progression, which just shows that some people dont think too much about things like that.

I am not really blown away by either of those Perks, the Killer Perks are overall better than the Survivor Perks, but I dont think any of those will be used. E.g. even if the Cooldown would not be as big as it is on Lay Waste, PGTW is just better without any doubt (even pre-Buff PGTW would be better).

But Steadfast is a new low when creating Survivor Perks.

I voted for the crows too. They are way too underutilised. Boons are considered so hit and miss that i was surprised it won

  • Prefer the killer perks to survivor. That boon one though is just sandbagging your team mates. You're slowing them down without their consent and they may not be confident in hitting greats (and don't want to try, especially if they're injured on death hook and don't want to draw the killer to them).

  • Were Elk is fine, have you only heard this Nurse sound while playing her? Because I've heard it while playing survivor in 2v8 and it literally grinds my ear drums

Past history also tells that everytime they tried to address 4 man slugging adequately, it broke the game.

Remember basekit unbreakable and the final mori? Absolute ######### show.
Then they tried to revisit the idea adding basekit tenacity as well and removed the final mori (frankly that was extremely dumb and made killers like bubba, Billy and oni Childs play, ending games in minutes) and guess what happened, survivors started abusing the system by sabo-ing hooks and hover under pallets leading to free self pickups.

I can only assume you are new because you seem to not know what happened just 8 months ago.

I do know what happened. The people who play strategically (most of us) are the ones who end up losing out because of basekit changes caused by people like yourself. If you think the devs are more likely to spend time, resources, and money overhauling every perk you object to, instead of just implementing a mechanic they've already developed, coded, and almost implemented just months ago, then i have a bridge to sell you.

Prove my argument wrong then. Good survivors benefit because of the loud majority of bad survivors in dead by daylight. They benefit because of handholding mechanics implemented based on a survivor created rule book. Is that clear and coherent enough for you?

So majority are bad, and you want the devs to make it easier for you to compete with the minority that are good? Maybe just get better because you sound entitled as heck

  • I don't even pay attention to them. They're meaningless and probably dependent on how someone feels that day, whether they've just come out of a bad game, etc etc.

When intended play becomes more punished and less rewarding then alternative play do you think everyone is obligeted to play it? (The intended way)

If you want slu, slug its intended strategy and slugging whole team is high risk play that doesnt need to work especsly when survivors are good or run some antislug perks.

The negative of slugging instead hooking is less points compare to dealing with less top meta survivor perks and having more chase oriented play that feels more active andless areal control based/ procy camp style of play. Slugging isnt banned as face camping so ots legit strategy with its cons and pros, in these days same as hooking.

I'm not sure what your point is. Play any way you like, just don't be surprised when your little temper tantrum winds up, yet again, limiting the game for everyone else.

  • @Slurp_Ramen said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4076611#Comment_4076611

As stated by the devs on multiple occasions.

Slugging IS intended play, their issues with it is, it’s not overly fun to play on the survivor end and takes away too much agency.

Just because you don’t agree with the playstyle doesn’t make it not intended, that’s like complaining about snipers in an fps because they’re not interactive for the opponent, but they’re still an intended feature to shake up the game so every game is the same.

Never said any opinion on the playstyle. Strategic slugging is a thing, yes, but hooking is a fundamental part of this game. Quests, emblems, bloodpoints, are based on hooking (for both sides - unhooking is a fundamental part of survivor gameplay, not repeatedly picking each other up. There's a reason survivors can now abandon after being slugged twice). Abandons aren't even included in the official kill rates, so a full team slug can essentially void a game. The 3 gen meta also revolved around slugging and not hooking, and we got the 8 kick limit. Past history tells us exactly how the devs will address this issue, I can only assume you must be new.

  • The new Rift skin and yes it gives me a massive headache

  • Were you not here for the previous iteration, where they did add bots and it actually increased queue times because even less people wanted to play survivor as a result?

  • @Slurp_Ramen said:

unfortunately it’s just the way the meta has been turning this year.

Why would killers ever hook when they are punished so hard for doing so, they have to waste time picking (trying to dodge either a flashy or pallet save [thanks pallet density}) carry to hook then walk all the while survivors are cranking gens while you slowly walk to where they might be at.

Obviously killers have pain res, pop, dms, turn back the clock, but any one of those perks is weak by itself and they’re only effective when stacked with each other in boring quad slowdown builds leaving no room for fun builds.

Killers gotta worry about , deli, ds, dead hard, shoulder the burden, fast track (pre and post rework don’t matter it still works on hook), self preservation, base kit bt, babysitter, we’ll make it, kindred/open handed, 70 sec hook timers.

So again why would they waste time hooking and deal with all that, instead of choosing an easier path in slugging where all you gotta worry about is, unbreakable, wglf, soul guard, mft, conviction.

Because hooking is part of the intended play. And we know from past experience (ie 3 gen meta, going next, etc) that when too much of the playerbase deviates from the intended path of play, the devs address it via base-kit mechanics. For 3 gen, we got the 8 regression limit. For going next, we got 4% removed. People think they're taking a stand and making a point, but history has shown us all you lot are going to do is cause an anti-slug mechanic to be implemented.

Since I'm seeing alot of the same words coming from multiple people, I'm going to assume there's content creators behind this (as per usual) and I think this is one of those instances where people need to have some common sense.

  • @hermitkermit said:

I’ve said something similar on another post; that while I don’t support this kind of playstyle because I don’t think it should be possible to be able to disable dozens of perks from ever even activating, if it ends up getting enough attention then maybe it will be just what is needed for changes to be made.

If BHVR doesn’t see it as a problem then there won’t be a solution, so until it reaches a “problem” status, it’s best to just move on to the next match. If it really does end up becoming the new meta, and then possible a probe, there will more than likely be base-kit anti-slugging feature implemented in the same way they had to do for 2v8.

Yeah, this will be the ultimate outcome if it does become rampant: BHVR will implement an anti-slug mechanic. People are just shooting themselves in the foot with this one.

Amen my friend - that’s why I wrote a post recently about BHVR needing to lock in since the 10th anniversary is approaching quickly and everyone is excited about it.

Not just for the anniversary though. This entire game needs to be cleaned up just for the sake of the player base. The goal is to have fun. Not load up to be frustrated. I know people will say well it’s probably time that you take a break if you feel that way, no, I hard disagree. I wouldn’t be feeling this way if things worked properly in the game. I shouldn’t have to feel this way. Behavior really needs to lock in.

This isn’t new of course and we all share the same thoughts on this.

Sadly, I don't think there's time to improve this game between now and then

  • I don't mind her tbh. Makes a nice break from all the Onis and Wraiths. But her new skin makes some weird noise that gives me a horrible headache, and every nurse I've seen is wearing it

  • So glad it's not just me. I can't work out why I find them so distracting, I even almost missed skill checks because of them lol

  • Or simply avoid 1v4 and just play when 2v8 or other events are on. Plenty of folks do that. I can't see 2v8 becoming permanent while it affects queue times as badly as it

  • Yup, and when I pushed against the delayed gate I teleported forward

  • Yeah, I'd like to see some consistency from the developers please

  • I haven't played him since his rework. He lost his uniqueness as far as I'm concerned. I think I'm part of a minority though as he seems more popular post-rework.

  • Because it's boring. I'm not going to change the way I play because of a perk.

  • @QwQw said:

Yes, I have noticed an uptick in this sort of content. While I think some of it is definitely over the top, I feel like it's a pretty common consensus right that survivor is in a very strong state.

Yet despite this, killers still have a pretty good kill rate because the majority of survivors simply don't know what they're doing. Behavior looks at this data and thinks "hmm, survivors must be struggling, lets give them buffs", despite survivors already being strong provided they understand how the game works. They've been doing this for awhile now, which is what has led to all this frustration.

So, if survivors win it's because the game is catered to them. If they lose, it's just because majority of them don't know how to play. Does killer skill factor in at all? CCs have turned this community's brains to mush

BHVR said after their failed update last year that they aren't going to address tunnelling and slugging within the game any further

Do you have a source for this, by any chance? I don't recall this.

I didn't screenshot it unfortunately, but they said they won't be addressing tunnelling or slugging any further, and their hope is that the upcoming matchmaking rework is all that is necessary to alleviate players frustrations

  • BHVR said after their failed update last year that they aren't going to address tunnelling and slugging within the game any further, which is acknowledgement that those strats are here to stay and be used freely. If the playerbase wants the freedom to play as they choose, then that needs to go for everyone. If survivors want to gen rush then they should be free to, just as the killer is free to slug in response. This game has always been a matter of give and take. You ask if this is how we want the game to be played, and the answer (based on the massive response to the anti-update last year) is a resounding yes. This is the game players want. Viable strategies and the freedom to use them at will.

Sadly not new. What truly bothers me about it is how many times the people who make these videos are in the creator program. I would think if someone was going to represent my brand, I’d ensure they were coming in good faith and not trying to divide the community further. What’s truly ironic is most of the things these content creators say that are supported in the program would get banned on this very forum because it goes against the rules. But when moneys involved I suppose that all goes out the window.

This has crossed my mind too. I would have expected higher standards when it comes to their Creator program. A number of regulars here have had the "pleasure" of involuntarily being featured in a number of videos from a particular Creator, and not in a nice manner. You're correct that if he opted to respond to us here instead of in YouTube videos, he'd have been banned because it's against forum rules. But apparently it's okay when they're representing the brand? Not a good look

  • Youtubers will post whatever gets them more view$. That's literally all it comes down to.

  • If they used these rules then totems would be restricted in where they can actually spawn and likely would spawn in the same place every game. This would make them even easier to track down

  • Who is "anybody"? Is this because someone didn't like your ideas?

  • "It'd bypass the 2 v 1 issue people hate so much entirely"

This tells me that what actually happened was you slugged for the 4k, and that's what Kate meant by you wasting her time. It's also why she felt petty enough to stand there tbagging and wasting your time in turn (though for 15 min? I'm doubting that. The game will automatically DC the killer if left AFK for too long).

"Not only that but I think survivors should have to do something to summon the hatch"

Your gripe seems to be that hatch spawned at all, and that your slugging for the 4k didn't work out for you this time. Hatch is a means to end the game. As the devs have said previously, by all metrics a hatch escape is still a killer win. You won the game, she just got extra bloodpoints (hatch doesn't affect her MMR).

The killer uses on perk slot to weaken one of the survivor skills.

'Weaken' is an understatement for this perk. Chase perks don't instantly end chases. Regression perks don't set a gen to 0. NTH just completely undoes any attempt at stealth.

The value is that he spend less time searching. But that wont win them the game

Yes it will. Time is literally the currency of victory for both sides. Being able to cut out all time spent actually having to find a survivor is going to make a significant difference.

Now you need to decide if its a good time to stealth

In the presence of these perks, it is never a good time to stealth, since stealth requires investment on the survivor side, and these perks turn the pay-off from being in the survivors' favour, to the killer's. Stealth usually means being caught out of position for the start of a chase, so if these perks are in play, not only does stealth not work, it actually benefits the killer.

    Not taking aggro.

If the killer spends time looking for a survivor they can't find, that's helping the team in much the same way taking a chase would.

Killer wasting time searching. If its too much, its far easier to stay on the obvious location: the hooked survivor. Thats why tunneling killer dont bother with NtH, its pointless for their playstyle.

I'll double back on this one with a later point…

The value of perks. The killer has only 4 slots. Having one perk hard-countering it, is a bit much. You could mix it with perks like self preservation, but suddenly you need to sacrifice more perk slots. And it is/was always a gamble. Both sides dont know what the other side will bring and if they get value of their perk build.

Except that one perk didn't hard-counter it for anyone but the person running it, meaning that it'd be 1/4 of both sides' loadout in order to be fully negated.

Not wanted gameflow. Its highly subjective (or the devs have data to back it up), but the decision was that the catch-game is more interesting than hide-and-seek.

And this is kind of hypocritical with regards to the earlier remark about tunnelling. If tunnelling was a problem, it'd get fixes. It'd get addressed. But given that it's been buffed repeatedly as well, apparently it's not a problem, barring one exception: When it can be used as an excuse to nerf something on the survivor side.

The double whammy here is that the worst version of stealth is still there, ratting is still possible by just using lockers. The only thing these changes have done is make it harder for someone to contribute while playing stealthy. In other words: In their efforts to fix stealth being uninteresting, they made it more uninteresting.

"When it can be used as an excuse to nerf something on the survivor side."

    Player: tunnels

BHVR: releases a halfway decent survivor perk

Player: um BHVR, this isn't fair to survivors. Their perk forces me to tunnel.

    BHVR: nerfs perk

    Player: continues tunnelling

    Gotta love it lol

I’m just genuinely confused. Whole heartedly. I mean no malice behind this, I just don’t get how after 8 months we have no news on any of these topics discussed back in July. After 8 months? Genuinely nothing, not an ounce of anything? It just doesn’t seem possible and that’s probably why the community feels the way they do.

BHVR has broken trust with the community one too many times and has made little effort to repair….well any of it. Here’s an off the wall example.

“Hey guys we hear you, genuinely! We are always listening that’s why we are listening to your feedback regarding blight”

Right. I get that..I respect that, but it’s been 6 long years that feedback has fallen on what it felt like deaf ears 👂 until recently when BHVR said oh no we heard you.

I can say with certainty that most of us truly don’t feel heard nor appreciated on these forums. A lot of this is due to the broken trust. Why can’t/wont BHVR make effort to repair that? Care about us enough to fix it? We are here because we care. We just want to feel the same way back. ❤️

I don’t feel like it’s asking for much.

I'd honestly prefer if every now and then they just updated us on failed changes so people aren't just waiting and waiting. Or just a simple, "it's not a priority at this stage" instead of "we have some changes planned, keep an eye out 👀" then 2 years later we're all still keeping an eye out.

Last night i had a wesker try to gaslight me that he seen me with barbecue, problem is I’ve been running self preservation which has elusive now. When I explained that he just said gg ez and left.

I always knew survivors subtle cheated pretty often, but running self preservation with bond has revealed that subtle cheating it is even common among killers.

I hate using elusive perks and trying to play stealthy but this is how i’ve been finding more and more of them.

"Last night i had a wesker try to gaslight me that he seen me with barbecue, problem is I’ve been running self preservation which has elusive now"

Lol i had the exact same situation with a Wesker recently. Dude tried to hide his wallhacking behind BBQ but I had Self Preservation. It's fun testing them, and hiding in some total random spot and they still beeline to you. People cheat regardless of the role they play.

  • Yeah games have, for the longest time, seemingly swung from one extreme to the other. I enjoy spreading hooks because it takes me back to when the game could go either way and it wasn't already decided early game, but even then I'll absolutely steamroll sometimes. It is true that positive reinforcement of good behavior is much more effective than punishment of bad behavior when it comes to modification, but people are also more motivated to act on negative feelings than positive (i.e. use the post game system to be negative than give a thimbs up).

Still, I think your idea has some merit. That said, think you'd need to separate it from the existing system, like have one for reporting and a separate mechanic for giving kudos for good behavior, one the has only a "thumbs up" option. Especially if there is a karma ranking/reward attached. If you have a karma-type system with up and down voting, people will spam the negative one just because.

Like we've seen with the downvote since it was added here on the forum.

Sure, though the idea would be there isn't a negative option. Thumbs up or nothing, the latter of which is what we have now anyway. So at worse nothing changes and at best, people who display good sportsmanship may get recognized by fellow players. Devs could change things up as needed.
