I'm more disappointed.
I feel like the 3 gen thing is something they've been working on for a long time, not realizing that the biggest problems of 3 gen disappeared with the end of overbrine and skull merchant reworks. It happens occasionally, and its really annoying when it does, but we're basically just getting a killer buff to compensate for something that rarely happens.
I'll wait on Sadako to see how she plays, but the rationale for their explanation of the changes leaved a lot to be desired.
Extremely disappointed where the Blight addons are ending up after the rework. As a survivor I like facing Blight, he's a well designed killer, the problem has always been those addons.
"we're basically just getting a killer buff to compensate for something that rarely happens"
That's true. Kinda sucks.

You can proxy camp basement just fine. I went against a Bubba yesterday doing just that, no one was getting out of that basement. It requires slightly more effort than being able to just stand in front of a survivor but it works just fine.

wdym you cant commit to a swf? there aint no contract involved you just gotta find a few buddies to ######### around with
I feel like there's no point putting effort into finding a group I'm in sync with if I can't guarantee I'll be available to play with them alot of the time.

When I play as Spirit, I certainly struggle a lot more than I do with other killers, so it's not like she can't be countered. Watch some YouTube videos of good survivors going against Spirit to learn how to counter her.
Also, I hardly ever see Spirit anymore when I play as survivor. If she's that strong of a killer, why is nobody using her?
She used to be very popular. Survivors also had a good counter in the form of old Iron Will. It made it easier to mindgame her, as you could double back on your pathing and confuse her by overlapping your scratch marks. Both Spirit and IW got a nerf. She's not seen as often now. I actually enjoyed going against her back then.

The biggest thing is forcing her to commit to longer phases where she has to choose a direction near the end of her charge. Preferably at a safe pallet.
Take her headset out of the equation and make it about the map. Can you get to shack during her phase? Pre-drop it and listen. Play a filler while she's on cooldown, then get to a safer tile and pre-drop that+listen if you can when her power comes back. But don't get caught up trying to trick her or juke her. Assume competence and make it about safe tiles.
You will lose more on a low percentage juke attempt vs holding W and tanking a hit to reach safety. She's not Nurse. She can't play a god window or a god pallet.
Some good advice, finally! See I basically always do the opposite and wait by the pallet, trying to work out which side I can stun her from to hopefully get to another tile. I'll try predropping instead.

Wasn't excited to begin with lol looking forward to the new Rift though, that hasn't changed

I'm glad you enjoy losing so much. The game must be a lot more fun for you.
The game does disagree with what you've outlined though considering the heavy punishments to ranking and BP gains for survivors as a result of dying. It's very clear that you're not supposed to die often.
The problem with modern DBD is that people are too hung up on the asymmetrical aspect of the game and mistakenly want to balance the game around the story.
Whether or not you play killer or survivor you are still a full person. Not 1/4th of a person.
Survivor is far too reliant on teammates in a game that does nothing to enforce team play aside from maybe having an increased chance of escaping, which is lessened by the ability to take perks and offerings for hatch or exit gates.
If the game actively punished players for playing selfishly and removed selfish aspects of the game then it would make sense for individual survivor power to be weak.
Solo Queue is not a gordion knot; it just requires hard stances and intervention from BHVR rather than inconsequential incentives to maybe get players to consider playing differently.
If we're going to keep balancing the game as is, then scoring needs to be rebalanced around hooks/chases rather than kills/escapes. If killer is going to continue being """Power Role""'" and have the ability to tunnel and camp all they want; Then survivors should be able to solo queue, run the killer for multiple chases, die, and still double pip and get tons of BP.
As long as the above continues to not be true the game will continue to feel terrible for survivors imo.
To killers, every game is a 1v4. In reality, a true 1v4 is when they're playing against a 4-man swf. A solo team game is 1v1v1v1v1. People will tell solo players to be happy if they die but their team mates survived, yet it doesn't feel good when those team mates did nothing to help or were actively detrimental to the team. I'd rather die and be rewarded for my contributions to the team, I agree.
-
I play solo. Anyone who plays swf is smart. I can't commit to a swf right now otherwise I'd play in one.

The real question is what can they add to the solo qs to improve? What's left? The only thing anyone can think of is an emote saying "I'm going for hook." They have that info in the portrait messages. You see who gets off gen. The information is there, solo q just don't have the "this is my friend" drive swf do to play around the info
Probably not much, hence why I said the game is really only viable for swfs. Unless you get lucky with matchmaking, but if my theory is correct then there's probably very little they can do about that either.
-
Their reply to solo queue issues in the last Reddit AMA indicates they don't see any way to help improve that experience. Or at the very least it's not of concern to them. Simply put, this game is viable for swfs. Solo queue, you simply get what you get.
I theorise that the reason matchmaking is so bad in solo queue is because long term survivors are leaving, but they're quickly replaced by newer survivors. So there's a larger pool of newer/inexperienced players, which is why the still hanging on long term survivors with like 3k hours are getting paired with survivors with like 30 hours. They have more than enough new survivors joining every day to make up for the ones that leave, so that's not a priority to them. The ones that want to stick around will eventually join a swf, while the rest are just kill rate fodder until they're over it.

Had a Skull Merchant recently so that's been putting me off lol
Just had a Bubba with Iron Grasp, Agitation, and Insidious proxy camping Lerys (centre) basement and could reach it from most of the map. I'm done for the day lol
-
Took me 15min just now to get into my first match of the day, and it was a full aura build Nurse tunnelling at 5 gens 🤣 I dunno if I should bother queuing up again
-
Yeah, Spirit is one of those killers that I know it's ggs for me from the start of the game. I've been running Shadow Step alot lately but even that has barely helped because my injury noises and pools of blood mean i get hit asap anyway. My brain is apparently not wired well enough to make sense of directional phasing either because I just really just take a guess at pallets lol
-
On the flip side, if they reworked Borgo to accommodate stealth killers then the clutter would affect ranged killers. I don't think there's a possible way for them to rework maps and make them agreeable for every killer. Your best bet is taking advantage of map offerings.
-
Just accept your fate. Solo queue is just a murder simulator at this point.

It may not be as bad as I might think. I did try DBD on gamepass cloud gaming a couple of times. It was mostly playable just the skill checks had big delay playing that way. I don't blame ya for not wanting to switch. Cross progression and transfers would be nice.
Just as a thought have you tried the PS remote play app on a phone. I'm sure the portal should be made to be better and more enjoyable but it may be worth checking out too.
Nah I haven't tried the remote play app, I'll give it a go tonight to get an idea. Thanks!

@Moonras2 said:
Most cloud based devices have at least a small delay. I can notice a delay just switching from PC to PS5, on the skill checks, because of the framerate difference. So streaming from the PS5 to the PS Portal will probably have more. I don't know if you can afford it or not, but if you just want to play it on a portable device, the steamdeck runs it quite well. I've played on mine several times, usually at low settings. Resolution isn't the highest but I have played it on low settings on my TV as well.
I cant speak how it will actually be because I haven't tried out the PS Portal yet. Just speculating on how most cloud based devices work for me and the reviews I've watched.
I would like to know how it works when you get it though. I had thought about getting one someday so my niece can play on it.
Thanks for the info, I appreciate it! I'm happy to update here once I've given it a go. I did briefly consider the Steam Deck but I've already switched from the Nintendo Switch to the PS5 so not really keen on starting from scratch a third time. I imagine going to the Portal might be a bit like going back to the Switch, as there was a definite skill check delay on that console. So I might be okay adjusting, just hitting Greats might be tougher.
-
I feel like the game probably expects you to carry your less experienced team mates. Which isn't fair. I had a bit of a break after the Christmas event and just started playing again. I had 6 games yesterday and absolutely no exaggeration, 4 of those games were among the top 10 worst games I've ever experienced since I started playing over 3 years ago. All in the same day, one after the other. Matchmaking atm is so bad, I honestly understand why so many people let go on hook these days - their tolerance is shot.
-
A couple strong loops when the centre of the map is a dead zone and every other house is ass doesn't seem so bad a trade off to me personally
-
Decided to reserve judgement for a few weeks but inevitably had to agree with everyone else that she was a dud.
-
I'm neutral. Never played Alan Wake so not a fan of that franchise specifically, and his perks are pretty mid so that's not a selling point for me either. Am passing on it.

Not a debuff. Killer just use aura reading and scream perks like ultimate weapon. Then we have the add-ons that give aura reading outside of perks.
And worst of all is scratch Mirror Myers. Sweet christmas...
Wait a minute limited time modifier? So a FOMO game mode? Le sigh.
Hopefully it's a perkless game. That with no scratch marks, no terror radius, and no red stain would be interesting.

Ultimate Weapon, Dead Mans Switch and Pain Res is more or less standard in my games since quite some time now, especially on Nurse Blight and often Wesker. It is op as hell, but with the Grim Embrace buff, this will become even more ridicolous.
I guess if this is going live i play Nurse exclusivly with this combo just to make people run on social media complaining until its nerfed into the ground.
Yeah it was a Blight and Wesker I saw it on

Have you had a good run lately?
You may have just jumped a bracket and you'll need to eat a few losses to re-adjust.
I find its heavily influenced by when you play too, the players mid afternoon are a different breed from those at 11pm.
So true. It's the same with weekend vs week day. Week day afternoons are so chill while weekend afternoons are so sweaty. I like to think it's all us stay at home mums playing together during the week while the kids are at school lol
-
I'm guessing someone has already done a video on this as I had two killers in a row yesterday using UW, DMS, and PR.
-
Just Warrior Puppers charm
-
It's very rare that I've been put in this situation. When the killer has tried to get me to help find the other survivor I'll just run around nowhere near the survivor and take the killer to empty lockers etc. Like, they wanna waste my time then I'll waste theirs. When I've been the last survivor, most other survivors also refuse to help and will just waste the killer's time. I'll just park myself on a gen in the meantime. May as well get some bp. I can't recall a time when another survivor has helped a killer find me but in that situation whatever, they can pat each other on the back and I'll just go next.
-
Yeah honestly, what will actually get rid of 3 genning isn't the regression event limits but the fact that GE+DMS+Camping will make it unnecessary to even kick gens. Hook cycle meta incoming.
Edit to add:
What's confusing to me is that you only have to look on social media, as well as the increase in survivors letting go on hook or DCing to see that enthusiasm/caring is severely lacking among alot of the survivor base currently. Survivor mains I follow on Twitch will play for a bit and consistently let go on hook because they're so miserable, until they just decide to play a different game. Survivors make up 4 out of 5 of the players in every game and it's confusing that the devs can look at something like this and think 'we'll just wait and see how miserable this update makes 80% of the players in the match' like alot of survivor mains aren't already holding onto the game by a thread.
-
They probably expect Alan to sell based on the license alone. So they don't have to rely on perks to sell it. Alan Wake has a decent fan base.
-
Yeah I said as much in another thread. In the past if someone camped you'd be told "just do gens." Now that hooks block gens with certain perk synergy, you can just proxy camp and cycle hooks. This playerbase is all about the path of least resistance, so yeah it'll happen.
-
No, I'm passing on this chapter
-
@crogers271 said:
I feel like it's going to create a meta on the survivor side were nothing gets done but gens until they are blocked. Heals can be put off until the gens are blocked. Maybe we'll see a few more boons / inner strength / built to last so people have something to do while they wait for gens to unblock.
I'm thinking about toolboxes and built to last. Blow through the toolbox on the gen, then the survivor just recharges the toolbox while waiting for them to unblock.
My current build is Overzealous + CoH + Shadow Step + Exponential. So I'll keep myself busy with booning. I think proxy camping will become popular with a gen blocking meta as you can just cycle through hooks and prevent gens from getting done. I hope I'm wrong because that's boring af for 4 out of 5 players, which won't bode well.
-
No. I play in solo queue where most people jump off gens as soon as they hear a terror radius. 36m is good as it's slightly outside the range of most terror radiuses (32m) but not enough that I feel my team mates will make good use out of it. They'll slink away when i get too close, which is understandable tbf if theyre injured and/or death hook. I'll make good use of it if I see a team mate has it but it's always a crapshoot when it comes to team mates.
-
If I have to stand around with nothing to do for long periods of time a la the gen kick meta, then solo queue will truly finally be unplayable to me. The PTB exists for a reason, so if the devs are okay with what they saw on there then I trust it won't be like it was before. Because they'd be nuts to reintroduce that to live.
-
Guessing I'm passing on the Alan Wake chapter. For a supposed survivor chapter we haven't really gotten much.
-
Hard to say. I have kids who keep me busy, but on school days I'll play 1-2 hours max, usually like 10am-midday. Some days I don't play at all. If I'm doing housework I have a tendency to do one chore, then have a break by playing a match, do another chore, then have another game break 😂 I basically just play whenever I have a moment to spare and am in the mood. During events though I tend to put in good hours lol

It was clear that it will take some time to be fixed, simply because the Devs were on Holiday as well. (Basically the same like Knight and Nowhere to Hide)
The December-Chapter is usually the one with the most Bugs, just this time it did not affect the new content, but old content.
@Topic:
While Plaything is bugged and gives an advantage (at least on its own, with Pentimento I would not really say it gives an advantage since you want people to cleanse the Plaything-Totem), the advantage is not too big to justify a Killswitch. However, I have to say, it is really annoying to see it that often, because you just know that many people play it right now because it is bugged.
I'm aware of them being on holidays (as they're entitled to of course) but I know it's been bugged since early December. Knight and NTH were killswitched shortly before Christmas. I guess it feels like an easier fix than those two so I wouldn't have expected it to take so much longer but then I'm not a developer.
-
I think it just sucks that its been bugged for awhile with no indication of getting fixed. Hopefully with the next update. I'm seeing it so much now in my games.
-
Twins and Hag. I feel like a novice when I play against them because I don't really know how to. I'm surprised others don't see Singularity much, I see him a fair bit.
-
I feel like if you anticipate this update will have a detrimental effect on your gameplay, then the update is probably for you. Based on my own games, I can't see an issue for most of the killer base. You can still proxy camp, and I'm not sure what you mean by chasing fast enough? All you can't do is zone 3 gens from the start of the match because you will use up your gen events on those specific gens pretty fast.
-
@C3Tooth said:
I think the current escape rate is about 40%. And top SWF has 15% more escape rate than the bottom Solo. I think its around 32%.
Solo is only able to escape based on killers' mercy.
Was going to post this earlier since you did the math for me once before, but wondered if you'd expect a solo player to have a better escape rate when paired with a duo or trio as opposed to an entire team of solos? I'd assume in the latter case a solo player would expect a lower escape rate? Or would it not really have an impact?

Some months ago i was using Sprint burst + Deception + Adrenaline + Quick and quiet
So basically whenever the killer tried to catch you in shack you would Sprint burst in the long way in the left door of shack then deception the lockers that's right in front of the door and then go either way the window with Quick and quiet or the pallet door with the remaining speed of sprint and since you dont leave any scratch marks they'll have no idea where you went
I like this, but I generally find Deception works only once and after that they're aware of what you're doing.
-
Wraith and Nurse I see often, but I don't mind them. Thankfully I don't see much Skull Merchant.

You say that like there hasn’t been an abundance of threads like this. I’ve seen at least 10+ threads over the past few weeks about this subject. And for reference, I’ve played this game for around five years now. Sometimes I check into the stream of the players in the match if I see Twitch in the name. I seen someone accusing someone else of cheating only a handful of times.
There’s no reason for you to be dismissive at this point. I’d get if it was just a one or two time this but I see these threads constantly nowadays.
This particular thread is referring to subtle cheaters - ie the ones you aren't entirely sure are cheating. I'm not sure how me pointing out that perhaps said players aren't actually cheating is me being dismissive. It's another story if we are talking about BHVR ignoring blatant cheaters.
-
Suspecting someone is cheating doesn't mean they actually are. Watch any decent survivor streaming on Twitch and you'll see how common accusations of cheating are in endgame chat. BHVR not banning someone you suspect of cheating doesn't mean they don't care about cheaters. Maybe it means the person wasn't cheating?
-
I'm currently using Overzealous + Circle of Healing + Shadow Step + exhaustion perk (prefer Overcome), with a map with red twine to help track totems down. I like to change things up every couple months and I'm enjoying this build at the moment.
-
There was a good chunk of time I barely saw it. It's increased in usage recently.
-
Get rid of the skill check and have it work automatically. That way it's new player friendly.
