It's not just about solo survivors, even high MMR 4-man SWF has a 48% escape rate. The whole survivor role needs a slight buff. They can start small, like -10 seconds on gen. Or fixing vaults so the killer can't hit you when you're literally on the other side and running.

The problem is that they don't want survival rates that high. Pre-update 6.1, the survivor rate was 47% iirc. It dropped down to 39% after 6.1 and the devs said this was a successful change. We got the HUD, which apparently increased escape rates a measly 1% (if that), but the devs outright said it was a quality of life update and won't impact on escape rates. Which they were correct about. So I imagine any further update to survivor will purely be something the devs don't anticipate will affect escape rates.

Re the topic - I think a chat wheel would work, or as someone else suggested the other day, the ability to communicate via small icons above survivor heads. So if you're injured but want a heal, you can place a small cross above your head. If you don't want a heal, then maybe a symbol to indicate 'leave me alone'?

  • Yeah. Like, I'm happy killers are eating well. But I'm struggling to retain interest because survivors bowls are bone dry.

  • Traps are great passive slowdown. If you're focusing on people with traps then those without are just sitting on gens. That hasn't changed at all, except now those on gens will be more cautious. The boxes are for survivors, Pig shouldn't need to worry about them.

  • First match of the day, a Tombstone Myers who apparently sucked my team mate dry and got me. 3k bp and a wasted Escape Cake lol gotta love it

Technically the Twins teaser had Victor in it but it was so fast nobody could of guessed that what we were seeing was for legal purposes "not a baby" which is why I'm skeptical, not that I don't think that was the killer but I'm skeptical that was it's true form.

I remember everyone was sure it was a Wendigo and lots of people were convinced it was an Until Dawn chapter lol iirc it was just his little hand or something

  • Yeah I have. Unfortunate but hopefully people get sick of her soon.

  • For my main, Zarina, I will.

  • With the amount of times a bot has missed a skill check on a gen or while healing me, I'd say it's very possible for them to mess up with perks.

Who the survivors? Should we get the sisters as the wendigo and then the brother as a cosmetic?

I feel like Rami Malek is too big a star now to agree to give his likeness. He was in that just before he broke out in Hollywood. Hayden Panettiere probably would do it, so Sam would be an option. Ashley was pretty well liked too iirc.

  • I'm gonna play devil's advocate here and just say the only times I've been tempted to let go (or on the rare occasion have actually let go) it's because of my team mates. People can argue "you're ruining the experience of 4 other people" but when my experience is being ruined by these same people, I should be free to choose not to play with them. A killer can see 4 flashlights in lobby and opt to dodge because they anticipate these people may be out to make sure they have a miserable experience. I get no such tell from my team mates in the lobby.

I dunno what you are talking about. I tried very hard to escape from the hook, especially after I saw 2 crouch hiders and 1 person in chase.

I mean, if they're hiding and not touching gens or totems or chests, then it's not a stretch to believe they're unlikely to help you off hook... it just makes sense to try and save yourself *shrugs*

She did not specify what was above and below the softcap.

I didn't interpret the comment the way you did. When she said the "bigger areas" she meant the bigger percentage of players are in low and mid MMR. Only high MMR are above the softcap..

  • Reading alot of these comments I can see why the devs aren't big on sharing stats. They said "please try not to draw any conclusions from data alone... It’s important to dig deeper to understand the context behind the numbers you see," and yet everyone's here arguing these stats at face value lol

  • On killer perks in the Shrine. There's only a couple killers I enjoy playing so have no desire to buy more, I just get the perks I want through the Shrine. Other than that I just save them.

I figured it was a little tongue in cheek.

My fav trios have always been the ones that goof around. The serious ones I always expect them to throw me under the bus. That been said I've played with a number of trios that have treated me just like I was part of their SWF.

The latter is always nice. I had a game once where the killer was not having much luck so I tried to give him a kill but the 3man swf wouldn't allow it. There was sabo'ing, flashbangs, body blocking. In the end I decided to just leave with them because I think I was just making the poor killer's day even worse lol

  • I really like Mikaela's cosmetic as well as the animated banner and badge

Why feel bad? Just because your solo doesn't mean you are the weak link. Often I find it's the trio that lets the solo down.

Oh yeah, I'm just joking around. In reality it can usually go either way with 3-man swfs - either they're super serious and expect you to fall in line, or they're just having fun and don't care all that much. Those two extremes probably balance each other out. I played with a trio today who were messing around so much that at one point the killer and I just stopped, looked at each other, then looked back at them like wth.

Thats how serious i take those stats. Skill Merchant has the highest kill rate because she obviously is OP and not because everyone suicides on her. Nurse has among the lowest kill rate because she´s the strongest killer.

Balance decisions based on those stats really frighten me.

They don't make balance changes based just on those stats - Peanits addressed this exact same topic last time they released stats lol

  • Definitely sounds interesting. As much as I love sci-fi, this sort of creepiness is preferable

    Bond, Botany, Shadowstep, DH

I started using DH again recently as a form of anti tunnel, sometimes it helps. Botany because I refuse to accept current patch healing speed in this game and Bond is always in my build, its my favourite perk for survivor.

Shadowstep for some fun scratch marks hiding on indoor maps, but mostly its just for some extra BP and also extra goal/objective ti do

I'm enjoying Shadow Step atm but mostly for the Distortion aspect for my team mates. It's good with CoH I think, because if they're injured and in the boon range then not only will someone know to heal them but the killer won't see their aura when they're vulnerable.

  • I still think Until Dawn would be a good addition. The map could be in the Ormond realm. It'd be nice to get more maps in older realms.

The kill rate is higher than this in reality. Note the part where they left DC matches out even though they have bots now. They must significantly change the kill rates if they felt the need to remove it from the data entirely.

Yeah I would imagine games where a survivor DCs is very likely a 3k for most

  • The average solo escape rate is interesting in light of the HUD changes. The 2022 average escape was 39% iirc, and that's only changed by like 1% since the HUD came out. So I guess it really was just a good quality of life update without any real advantage?

  • @Pulsar said:

    Who could've seen this coming.....

ALSO, LMAO, 39% ER is still accurate.

SWF only matters at high MMR, even Solo in high MMR is bad and the ER for 4-mans is still sub-50. The horrible awful so OP high mmr swf's aren't even escaping HALF the time

Also shows that SWF really doesn't matter unless it's all four.

Now I feel bad when I'm the solo to a 3-man swf. Us solo players are probably dragging their team down and that's why they don't perform much better 🤣 sorry guys

There is no way of determining this in such a game. What defines 'skill' in DBD and how would you measure it? A complex algorithm of chase times, hooks, rescues, gens completed, totems cleansed, kills and escapes? How would you weight each element, and how would you know if you got it right? What if the weighting towards gens was too great and it was possible to game the system by genrushing and then dying? What if hooks being a factor meant that survivors giving up caused killers to decrease in MMR? Bloodpoint scores? What if you win too hard and walk away with 4 kills in 3 minutes and only 15K BP, but then you play a 30 minute game against a SWF who all escape, but you score 30K BP?

Kills and escapes works as an average gauge of skill. A better player will escape/kill more than a less skilled player. Do you disagree with this statement and if so why? If that bolded statement is not true, then what does being 'skilled' actually mean?

The problem is that this is only valid when you can be reliably sure that your teammates/opponents are of a comparable skill to you. If Matchmaking messes up more than it gets it right, then your average kills/escapes won't be as reflective of your skill. In short, the randomness of matchmaking will be a greater factor in your 'average win rate' than your own skill. MMR becomes more of a reflection of your matchmaking luck, and a messy input leads to a messy output.

MMR isn't actually a bad system, for killers, when it works.

It's a less effective system for survivors, when their own teammates can be a greater factor in their demise than the killer they face, and this poses the potential to get 'stuck' in low MMR in a sort of positive feedback loop. (there are workarounds for this, playing Sole Survivor and only looking out for yourself, but this shouldn't' be necessary)

As for 'when it works', this is what they need to fix. MMR doesn't work; when a player is backfilled, when queue times are too long. Backfilling is a major issue for matchmaking, I see the killer dodge my lobbies more often than not, those are game with no MMR at all, those are games where the result of which is not an accurate reflection of skill, and will contribute to skewing MMR rather than aiding it.

Thanks for the reply, alot of good points but I honestly don't care enough about it to discuss in depth. I just know that whatever we have now is getting progressively worse. I genuinely don't care what they do about it, I just hope they can do something. 'When it works' is anyones guess.

  • I don't really have a favourite build as i enjoy changing it up too much. I'm currently using Overzealous, Alert, Shadow Step, and Circle of Healing and feel i get pretty good value.

  • Reminds me that I haven't played him in awhile. Need to dust him off.

  • They absolutely do need a better way of determining skill/matchmaking. Kills and escapes don't cut it.

I am just gonna throw out that I don't care about missing Lights out. What I do care about is that they put exclusive permanent content in a tome that was so short. Content for an feature that has extremely limited options. For a feature designed to allow you to express yourself. In addition to doing all of this they centered it around a holiday and eliminated the event that was generally done around this holiday.

All of that being said the tome did not even require you playing the lights out game mode. All the challenges were normal challenges. It was "linked" to lights out solely by being released at the same time and the theme of the rewards...kinda because 2 of the rewards were Alan Wake themed.

I really made this post to vent about how as an active player in this game this huge time constraint was very annoying. It kinda got derailed and I apologize for this but my main point is that One week, surrounding a holiday, is way too short for an event tome with exclusive content.

I sympathise. I'm pretty neutral when it comes to cosmetics, but I'm enjoying collecting the badges and banners so I'd probably be disappointed too. On the flipside, I also understand the devs reasoning behind it being so short. I have two big holidays planned over the next couple of years so will probably experience the same at some point. It's just one of those things. At the end of the day, I think the memories and experience of vacations is a better reward than any virtual item.

  • Yeah I need the black back. Not a fan of the white lol

  • It's possible, though Hag fits the bill as one per her lore. I've always assumed that's what she is.

  • In your shoes I'd just cop the losses and hope to eventually drop into a more appropriate bracket. Playing Nurse will just maintain you at that level where you feel you can't play any other killer, which obviously will affect your desire to play at all. We all know SBMM is shoddy at best but it doesn't look like the devs will do anything about it anytime soon, so to save your sanity in the long-term I'd just play who I want and cop the losses short-term if I were you.

  • Bought a bunch of Switch games "for the kids" but I've been making my way through them. Enjoying Super Mario Wonder - it's been forever since I played a Mario game.

Still not playing DBD at all regularly

…7mth anniversary from it coming up in a few weeks, exciting☺️💅🏻

Watched Thanksgiving the other day, and I must say that I very much enjoyed; It was way better than I was led on by the previews. Love Eli Roth’s approach to his films tho, soo kinda fan girling over it.

Fancy me some DemoPuppz too, so should be a fun read

I have such a crush on Eli Roth 😍

  • I'm always terrible the first time I try a new killer. It doesn't take long to catch on though. I wouldn't expect anyone to perform great the first time they try something.

  • More people need to bring the Babysitter perk. I feel like it's slept on. Someone unhooked me with it and I managed to immediately lose a tunnelling Nurse on Haddonfield of all maps. It's made me bring it every now and then in case the killer comes back to hook for the person I've just unhooked. They usually have no choice but to chase me instead.

    Knight is scary.

And I don't mean that in terms of strength, I mean in terms of horror. I honestly had not paid attention to his contribution towards the game's atmosphere until Lights Out.

Spawning guards from the darkness and catching survivors off-guard has been an amazing experience.

For me it was Nemesis. I've never found him scary personally, but hiding in the dark of the Ormond resort and just hearing these heavy footsteps all around me with no idea where he is was pretty freaky ngl

  • I have to force myself to play at the moment. Solo survivor isn't in a good spot, imo.

  • I tried it out for about a month or so in early 2023. I didn't get much use out of the endurance as I didn't see alot of tunnelling (but the times it came in handy it *really* made a difference) so I'd just hop on a gen and it would be cancelled. The silent aspect didn't bother me either way, and while the aura hiding was handy I think I'd prefer Distortion or Shadow Step if I wanted to hide my aura. I use the latter at the moment a fair bit because boons offer the same benefit to my team mates.

  • You'll generally find that competitive players don't take well to their opponents playing competitively in return. I'd love if sweat played with sweat, but competitive folk won't stay in their lane for long. They want wins, not challenges.

  • You can do the event tome in regular games :) go, be free!

  • I had a semi- similar experience. Escaped by the skin of my teeth (death hook, injured, killer right there) and saw afterwards that it was a streamer I've followed for awhile. They didn't have TTV in their name, I just recognised it as I follow them. Went to their stream to say I'm glad to have had a game with them and ggs. Their response was pretty much that they're glad I was happy but it obviously wasn't a ggs for them. I wasn't banned though, and they werent particularly nasty about it. As I said, the game was *close* and had they managed to kill me I'd have still said the exact same thing, ggs and all. I didn't see the issue but I don't bother commenting in streams anymore.

Anyone know about that red grid-like one though? I’ve seen it twice tonight. It’s not rift.

    DRAGONYEAR code. It's a freebie.

  • I've had those games many times. They're uncommon though. Winning has nothing to do with those games though, for me. I'm more likely to altruistically die for a team mate in those games, and be happy about it.

  • @Eelanos said:

The cat and mouse games you play in this mode are so fun. And I like tracking the blood instead of relying purely on scratch marks.

Scratch marks are a mechanic that I kinda hate because they make bloodstains and pain groans redundant. It feels like there's 7 different ways for killers to track survivors that scream SURVIVOR IS HERE, PLEASE FOLLOW, THROUGH THIS WINDOW, ALONG THIS WALL, TRACKS STOP HERE, FOLLOW BLOOD TO HEALING TEAM MATE.

The game mode just makes me hate them even more because the moment you hide the terror radius you realize survivors have nothing to go off of, yet killers even without the scratch marks have generator repair sounds, drop and pain sounds, bloodstains, killer instinct... like, the mode is pretty much normal mode for killers with a darkness filter on, but for survivors it's like playing blind and deaf.

If at least survivors had that one perk that no one uses that triggers whenever they aim the camera towards the killer even through walls at least they'd have a fighting chance, but as it is I don't think the mode feels as the "hide & seek" I was expecting it to be because killers know at all times where survivors are but survivors are just headless chickens hoping to not get caught.

I do like the game mode in concept, especially the atmosphere, but I feel it needs some adjustments to not feel like a survivor bullying simulator.

Yeah, I'm seeing so many comments on social media like 'oh this just exposes how bad survivors are without their crutches', and I'm there thinking, survivors are literally playing blind and deaf here. Killers don't have scratch marks but they have points of reference (gen auras) that help pinpoint where they and what tile theyve just entered, sound (gens, grunts, injured sounds), not to mention pools of blood to track in the absence of scratch marks. The access to info in this mode is completely uneven. Evidently that was the point though. I have zero issues with other people enjoying this of course. I'm happy for the devs that people do enjoy their efforts.

  • Hopefully they've dropped it and that's why we haven't heard anything

  • I had a Pyramid Head do this to me on the same map but in the house with that one-person gen in it. He dropped me on a mattress in the empty room and was humping me. It was pretty childish and gross.

  • Not everyone keeps up with updates and reads the patch notes. I hadn't read her new changes the first time I played against her after the update and had no clue what I was doing against her. Someone here kindly summed it up for me and my next game against her went heaps better.

  • I think he's more popular in low MMR
