I guess I just don't see how it ruins the experience. I could see if you only have like 30 minutes to an hour to play, run on a busy schedule, it would be annoying but I don't see generally how 4 minutes is a big deal.

Overall I can guarantee you I've spent more time waiting at gates and having to push survivors out the door than I have on the ground slugged. It's no better or worse and just really doesn't matter because 4 minutes is an incredibly short amount of time.

In general though, it's hard to be 4 man slugged if you're a competent survivor team. Of course you can't control how good or bad your teammates are in solo q though.

My point is, he does it intentionally to make the game as miserable as possible for others and I don't understand how this isn't griefing. He has no intention of normal game play, his ultimate goal is to make people have such a miserable time that they would rather DC and be penalised for it… meanwhile he has zero consequences.

  • I think you should be able to 'concede' the match (leave with out penalty) as this guy wants people to DC as that just gives him exactly what he wants. His intention is to make the game miserable and I don't know how that isn't griefing

  • @AlexXHunter44 said:

Because slugging is counterable and has a limited time it can impact the player. Any time I've been slugged I've never been mad about it. I just wait for someone to pick me up and if we are all down I just grab something to drink or a snack, watch something funny on YouTube, whatever, 4 minutes isn't a big deal.

I disagree, making people simply have to endure 4 minutes of being unable to play the game (even if they had U/B he pretty much immediately downed them again anyway). I play a game to play the game, not be forced to do nothing for 4 minutes because some weirdo gets a kick out of ruining the experience for others.

  • The one thing I will never understand is how a cheating survivor can cross a map instantly and go out of bounds and the anti cheat doesn't see this as being suspicious. It is probably more problematic with killers that can cross maps like Dredge or Unknown etc but the actions some cheaters take are so outside of normal game play it amazes me they don't get kicked.

That being said, I was impressed with how quickly BHVR acted on the last cheater I reported, it was the next day when I logged in and got a notification they took action and it was the only report I have done for a long time so it must have been the cheater.

  • Slugging and having to face killers I absolutely despise.

I would rather face longer queues than have to face a single Twins, Trickster, Knight or SM and it is frustrating as I am expected to endure matches I don't want to play.

I am sure killers don't want to play against SWF's and I also think it should be clear when you are facing a SWF or not.

  • Players of any game should not be bound to running only specific perk loadouts because some people cannot play the game like a civil human being that takes into account how their conduct may affect others.

We should not have to accommodate the lowest common denominator

  • I just think the game is suck a cluster ######### of perks and addons, it has created a whole bunch of really unpleasant metas and killers have a lot of means to turn matches into miserable events you endure rather then enjoy.

Honestly some days are not bad, today has been a good day in the fog for me, all the sadistic weirdos seem to come out on the same days with what seems to be a primary goal of creating the most miserable matches possible.

I do feel very nostalgic for pre-2020 DBD, where it was still broken in some ways (and very janky) but it was also quite simple and less sweaty unless you were red ranks.

  • In fairness the numbers always seem to settle in this general region despite players coming and going. It is definitely in one of the player number troughs but it can be a lot of factors.

  • Hook the 3rd person and leave it to RNG.

  • As a survivor main (now) I agree survivors are far more likely to BM than killers and honestly I just feel deeply embarrassed when randoms bag a Bubba etc at the gate.

The problem is I tried to 'convert' people to not behaving like toxic jerks but you cant change the (DBD) world and no matter how much you try to be positive in game, there are always jerks and I don't know how you fix that.

I pretty much never play killer these days but the few times I do lately I bring Hoarder and I 2 hook everyone and let them go at the end. I have a lot of cakes on killers to use up and I enjoy letting survivors get items from chests and it is my way of spreading a bit of positivity to contrast the cycle of toxicity in DBD

  • I want fun matches but of course fun is subjective.

I would rather fun chases over escaping and I dislike anti-loop killers, tunnelling off hook (unless it is end game where I completely understand) and proxying hooks. Full slowdown builds make me depressed, I wish there was another way to go about slowing the game down just a lil bit that doesn't involve my gen being blown up multiple times to the point it is just plain frustrating

  • Yes I noticed that and it is a good sign that they are looking at doing something, as it is starting to become a big problem of late.

You cant just leave your paying customers to frequently have to endure 4 minutes of not being able to play the game so the sooner the better.

I totally understand strategic slugging for pressure and I accept that as survivor but I think what we are seeing lately is not that at all.

  • He is one of the most stream sniped and harassed streamers out there and regardless my opinions of they guy, I do no think he should ever have to tolerate the garbage thrown at him over the years. It makes it impossible to do streaks etc as he almost certainly will get sniped, hell even friends I know who have done their own streaks get sniped by acquaintances just because they can.

I hate win streaks anyway, I don't think they are healthy for the game

(mods, please ask me to edit this if I cant say this, I have tried to word it in a way that isn't insulting or rude etc).

  • Anti loop killers and obnoxious builds on both sides but particularly killer.

I am finding I really don't enjoy the majority of the newer killers (Unknown being an exception) and it is making it harder and harder for me to have fun in DBD.

I am seriously considering switching to events only in the new year, as I have reached nearly 6k hours between accounts so it is probably time to give other games a go as that is an absurd amount of hours. Plus I am just not feeling it more and more

  • The things that drive me mad with Boon enjoyers - booning the killers Hex and I get that it is a Steam achievement as I had to do it too but this is a stupid achievement as it just wastes everyone's time, since it isn't like the killer doesn't know where your boon is and stomp out your wasted time booning it in seconds.

Secondly is re-booning the same totem a killer already stomped out, at that point you may as well just sit on a gen as it is more productive than wasting time boonin a totem a killer will almost certainly stomp out again in seconds.

  • Play the event so you can avoid her? It is literally the only reason I am still playing the event…

She is so glitchy that what worked one time will not work the next, so even though I know in theory how to counter her from playing her myself, I know how unpredictable her power is so its all over the place really

This huge on certain maps. Places like Ormond, Shelter Woods, RPD, the newish map with the cinema that's the same relm as Garden of Joy. Also several others. Get those done early and even a mobile killer can struggle to protect gens spread out later on.

Also leave gens in high up buildings such as the cinema map, Dead Dawg Saloon, Coal Tower for as late as possible as they are time sinks to check. A lot of killers won't bother patrolling them early on as they are waste too much time instead of protecting gens close together at ground level. Survivors do those early on and killers will be pleased!

Team mates almost always do the damn main cinema gen first on Unknowns map (Greenville), or the far end fountain one, so you're left with a tiny patrol area of mid gens which inevitably creates a long and tedious war of attrition that killers tend to win as resources (pallets) get used up all around these gens.

This map drives me insane for that reason as it really could be neutral to actually quite survivor sided due to the sheer number of filler pallets but ONLY if survivors did gens correctly

  • @Equinox_One said:

I play both sides about equally.

Four little tricks I've discovered that I've found effective, or at least fun - although I wouldn't try all of them in serious matches.

    Killer:

    • Franklins + Weave Attunement is a bit weak now but combined with Insidious (or any sort of undetectable killer)…whack survivor, break off chase, hide near item and jump out when someone comes and grabs it. Utterly hilarious. Ghostface is incredible at this.
    • Human Greed + Hoarder + event offerings is actually quite strong right now, if you want something different. LOTS of aura reading, especially on smaller maps.

    Survivor

    • Lara's perk Finesse is sleeper insane. It completely throws off experienced killers timing wise. There are quite a few perks like this which, while not meta, are both uncommon enough and effective enough that they are really potent.
    • It seems like common sense, but generally try to do the 'middle' gen as soon as possible on most maps, as this can help prevent 3gen situations from occurring later.

I wish more survivors understood the importance of NOT doing safe edge gens first but instead trying to hammer out mid gens ASAP.

I feel like I can judge a survivors intelligence in game when I see them also join me in making the mid, or at the very least the unsafe gens first. As a solo queue veteran this is unfortunately the exception not the rule and it means I am often the one who gets found first, as I take the biggest risks gen wise because I know doing the wrong gens first dooms the team in the end.

  • If I am playing killer I personally never bother slugging for the 4k, unless I am doing an adept or the team was particularly toxic and then it is spite thing more than anything.

But if you slug for the 4k you are actively choosing to waste people's time, so if I am slugged I actually hope my random team mate does hide it out. If you are going to waste my time then I am happy for them to waste your time while you look for them for 4 minutes, then if they don't find the hatch before you I hope they hide it out for the entire EGC too, I know I sure do.

If someone finds hatch before me on both sides, I am fine with RNG deciding rather than wasting everyone's time. But I will waste someone's time out of spite lol

Unfortunately I just had one of those, with the exact type of build you've mentioned:

    https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/S8OY283FJJTB/image.png

Props to this Nea because her last chase was good, really gave Doc a run for his money, but with Knock Out in effect I don't think she was able to find anyone (and I have a strong suspicion someone was downed inside the tower).

    But this is ridiculous.

Some players are pushing it too far, to the point where I am certain something will be done to address this situation. And if we get an anti-slug mechanic, I hope it is way stronger than the AFC. I don't think this specific playstyle should still be allowed to exist.

Ah yes, we have a Dr in my region (OCE) who does exactly this, they are well known for doing this and it has gone on for YEARS. I don't know why players are forced to endure this with no way to get out of it

I am definitely getting more in normal mode, especially bringing a bp offering (and the fact that a team mate typically does as well doesnt hurt). Comparing my normal games to my event games, the former has garnered me more bp in total than the latter. At least we have a Bloodhunt starting.

Oh really, so like extra BP coming up soon?

I don't keep track of the social media so I never know these things are coming until they are already on lol

  • The event weirdly results in much higher ping, mine nearly doubles if I play the event mode.

I decided to go back to regular matches as I was not getting anymore BP than normal matches (offerings apparently bugged?) and the higher ping makes it not worth playing the event mode at all.

  • One thing I am facing more and more is a killer who tunnels the first survivor hooked and they (the survivor will) DC, so at that point the match is over so we may as well go next. But when I have indicated to the killer to just hook me they instead will slug me and let me bleed out rather than hook me.

So we are being forced to stay in to be their play thing in an unwinnable match and we cant leave or we get a penalty. This feels unfair as I didn't DC in the first place but we are forced to stay in an unwinnable match regardless.

  • @bazarama said:

Unfortunately winning is everything to some people and equally unfortunately that often requires getting a player out as soon as possible hence tunnelling and slugging.

I only play killer and very casual often with music playing so I can't tell if a gen is regressing without going to look at it.

Do I win a lot of games this way? No.

    Do I care? No.

    Take 2 games last night.

First game 10 hooks as clown 2 survivors escaped.

Second game as ghostface on survivor picked RPD one killed themselve on first hook and second game up the minute I hit them by suddenly appearing in their face around a corner. 4k

Now I know which game was more fun and it wasn't the easy 4k.

Toxic players exist on both sides and that will never change.

So for me tunnelling etc are boring but as I said winning is everything, right?

Honestly though, it seems that most just want the easy 4k and they don't care how they get it.

The problem is, that easy method is often incredibly unfun for the survivors and they will frequently get that 4k simply because survivors just give up and go next, rather than endure a miserable match with someone hell bent on making it as unfun as possible.

I have seen many say they only care about others fun, I must be different as I was a Nurse main for years and I stopped playing her because I realised my opponents were not having fun (many just gave up/DC'd etc). There is a fine line of course but you don't have to make every match abject misery for the other side but some just do not care and I don't know how you fix that other than removing methods for them to create misery.

  • Had this several times today and it just adds to the frustration of annoying killers with obnoxious builds who want to prolong the misery of matches because gotta get that 4k….

I feel a break is coming on for me and DBD, I just cant do this every day.

I have not escaped a SINGLE time today and the only fun killer we had was a Huntress who DC'd

The offerings are bugged. I've just been bringing Screech Cobblers.

I am just going back to regular queues I think, there is no incentive to play the event since I am not getting any extra BP anyway. Plus the event queue seems to have much higher ping than regular queues and I don't get sandbagged by snowmen in regular matches

  • This event feels like I am barely getting any more than a regular match, which renders the whole thing all but pointless for me since I play events for the BP since they are really all that matters for progression in this game.

  • @SharonPancakes said:

BHVR must just want some killers strong and others weak, or they just don't know what they're doing. I think we all know what the reason is.

I gave up trying to figure out their logic tbh and you can see it even with big content creators like Otz where they are clearly exasperated and also confused with why certain changes are made.

I just feel the game is becoming a mess with too many perks, too many addons and too many obnoxious metas

  • I have around 5k hours on my main Steam account and probably another 1000 on my alt and Epic account as well.

I would not consider myself weak but fairly average to reasonably strong depending on the day lol. But I rarely escape matches anymore, the games are often miserable slogs against unfun killers with extremely oppressive or just plain obnoxious builds.

If I do well in a chase, many killers get their ego hurt and they will proxy my hook and go out of their way to tunnel my while I am vulnerable.

Lately solo survivor seems to be an endless loop of misery, with maybe 1 in 20 matches being fun and worth staying in. I don't know how to fix that as I can't choose the killers I don't want to verse and I have no control over obnoxious play styles that team mates give up on (which tbh I cant blame them).

Oh and if I spend 4 minutes bleeding out again while the killer tries to find my team mate for the 4k… fml

  • I have to say, I absolutely despise Chucky with a passion so any nerf is welcome as it may hopefully mean I see him less. Though weirdly, I have seen him more than ever which honestly makes me not even want to play DBD at all.

  • Yes, the finisher mori has made this pretty much standard too and because I pretty much only play solo queue (SWF very rarely), nobody really cares to risk their butt to help you if you're the poor sod stuck bleeding out for 4 minutes while your team mate hides.

The problem is the finisher mori and the hatch mechanic and I think we have two issues with those. The hatch isn't going anywhere and I suspect BHVR are looking to monetise moris by connecting them to specific cosmetics etc, so they are going to want to promote moris as much as possible.

So I don't think these annoying mechanics are going anywhere and there needs to be other mechanics introduced to stop paying customers from constantly having their time wasted bleeding out for 4 minutes while a killer wastes everyone's time

  • A lot of things are nerfed and also buffed inexplicably. Some makes sense, others I cant understand and I don't think most of us understand either.

  • It feels like a lot of the fun has been sucked out of DBD these days, very few people play for fun anymore but rather it feels like a sweat fest.

Probably 1 in 50/100 matches I get lucky in solo queue and I get a team of good players who also are happy to throw to have fun. I am at the point I am really struggling to find a way to have fun playing solo queue survivor at present.

  • The finisher mori just made this problem infinitely worse, so you are frequently subjected to 4 minutes of being slugged as your team mate will often choose to evade the killer and hide it out. I don't even blame my team mate and I am kinda with them in principle as it at times feels kind of petty when a killer has decisively won a match they still want to waste everyone else's time because gotta get the 4k, right?

I guess I am different but when a match is over I really just want to move on to the next one, so I am fine with it being down to RNG and whoever finds the hatch first… meh.

  • Okay so I was watching a streamer and he was at the preschool in main and he exited the building then him and Myers were both instantly teleported back into the lower building lol. Hens was also saying people are getting higher ping in the event mode only… but I have not had this either.

So yeah, I am going to guess there are server issues going on and I have just been lucky.

  • The snowmen are a great sandbaggers at times but I am not too worried.

I am more concerned that matches as solo survivor have been miserable back to back, with very obnoxious killers running very obnoxious builds. I had to just close the game and play something else today and it isn't the event ruining it for me

  • The servers have been a bit janky in general, though I have not had any big issues during this event.

However during the 2v8 event I think player numbers were so high the servers were not able to cope, so I did have a lot of rubber-banding and weirdly my entire lobby got put into 200ms games a few times, when my usual ping is ~15 - 20ms

  • It hasn't stopped people playing him that is for sure, I have seen a lot of Chucky and it is miserable. Honestly considering becoming a killer main as I see killers like Chucky so often

  • It isn't griefing, they aren't repeatedly targeting you personally and it isn't because of your race etc.

It will die down eventually as it is stupid to think only Taurie will run that perk anyway. But tunnellers gonna tunnel and I also found that when I was Shouldering the Burden, I had the Deliverance curse where I always seemed to be the first one found and hooked and the match just went downhill from there.

  • @AlexXHunter44 said:

WWorst Idea ever and quickest way to absolutely ruin the game. I swear noone thinks before they just start spewing ideas.

I think the no point loss thing is a step too far but I am changing my mind on DC penalties, as we now have bots in the game and honestly sometimes the bots have been better than the person they replaced, I am dead serious.

The problem now is because people try to avoid the penalty, they just go next on hook so you're left with 3 survivors at 5 gens against a Blight or whatever, so you all may as well just go next at that point.

I think DC's would increase at first but I don't think most people want to leave matches, like any of us they play DBD because they want to play fun matches and not just leave every match because it doesn't go their way. You cant force people to stay in matches they don't want to and DC penalties are not stopping that at all, it just means they leave by other means so the team doesn't even get a bot to replace them.

If people want to slug and bleed out players, they should have to do that to 4 bots, not people who actually want to play a normal match too. I would think leaving matches like this is not an unreasonable thing, if it were possible

  • For me it isn't a case of learning, as many mechanics are reskins but you treat them very similar to other killers etc.

The problem for me is the counter play is not fun or satisfying and I don't want to have to endure tedious killers like Twins, Knight Chucky etc.

I kinda wish there was a a 'classic' mode for DBD, with just fun old school killers and limited to old school perks etc but minus the broken stuff that BHVR was right to remove

  • I have been asking for this for YEARS now - an option to 'concede' the match when it is clearly over. Making paying customers frequently endure bleeding out for 4 minutes while the killer hunts your hiding team mate for the 4k, or the (thankfully) less frequent scummy Blight/Nurse who will slug and bleed everyone out for 4 minutes should never be a thing you subject your customers to

  • I would suggest playing her as you will realise quickly that her dog often is completely useless and she is not that difficult to counter.

My problem is that as with so many of the new killers, she is incredibly unfun to verse and just adds to the list of miserable killers in the last few years.

I find the mechanic of grabbing me and hindering my progress irritating, the same irritated feeling I get from Pinhead or the Knife spam from Trickster. I don't think they are particularly strong, just not fun to play against and I don't know how to make a game continue to be fun when I get back to back unfun killers as survivor (which also makes team mates go next, which adds to the misery).

  • @angel_pellegrino said:

I was playing a game of doctor tonight, and not "the mean doctor build" either, lol. And I played pretty casually the entire time, no slugging, camping, and when I took literally ten steps away from the hook and a nice cage ran up to unhook right in my face, I just left and let them reset. How did I get rewarded for this? Constant blast mines (bad time to run eruption I suppose hehehe) and a nice cage almost dying to the entity because he wanted to badly to t bag me at the exit gates that the clock was almost up before he darted to safety. Lol.

In the end, it's hard to know why people do the things that they do. Maybe the group were giggling and having a great time seeing me flash minded. Maybe the nice cage was saying thank you with his twerking. Maybe he was saying I was the best doctor ever as he boot scoot boogied out the door. The world will never know.

Yeah and this kind of thing creates toxic killers so it definitely goes both ways. When I did play a lot of killer I would get really obnoxious survivors like this and I would be left angry and say to myself I am going to go hard on the next survivors.

Then…. for some reason get matched with a baby Meg or a baby David who is really bad at hiding and thinks I cant hear his ridiculous pain noises lol and I just cant be mean to them as they're so innocent and adorable and I end up letting them go anyway.

I guess you just have to face each match as it comes, which can be harder with survivor as killers often dictate how a match will play out and as killer some just make you regret giving them any leeway

So far, Ive only seen one side playing around with the event stuff … during the event mode … sadly its, with the exception of one single match, my side. (18 games of survivor and 2 games as killer)

I switched to killer and was adding Hoarder to my build so everyone can collect items and I let everyone go after they have 2 hooks each. Occasionally some give up before I can even let them go but I am trying to just add a positive experience to the sweat.

Just had a DC at 5 gens and the Dark Lord still played like his life depended on it, we all just gave up and went next as what was the point?

  • People can and will play how they want but yeah I do find it a bit lame when people go into events to sweat like they are competing for money but not much you can really do about it sadly

  • @I_CAME said:

It's because survivor isn't fun. Especially not in solo queue. To quote something Otz said the other day. "Winning as a killer with one perk is easier than winning in solo queue". The effort required to play solo only to lose in the end just isn't worth your time. I am currently playing DBD less than I have in the past and when I do it's usually on killer. The plus side is the state of solo survivor helped break my DBD addiction.

I feel like this is frequently the case, this is of course subjective and mileage may vary for others. But solo queue is a slog of obnoxious killers, obnoxious sweaty killer builds and full slowdown, tunnelling, camping and team mates giving up/DCing constantly. Escape rates in general feel very low unless you play in a SWF with very experienced players, though again that can vary as I do have some runs where I escape several times but I can go hours of not escaping - something that never happened in the past.

I am not enjoying survivor at all now. I just get annoyed and frustrated seeing what dbd became over the years. I prefer killer and that probably won't change anytime soon whenever I am back for some games.

I feel that I know things are bad when even I resort to playing killer lol

Not that I have not played a lot of killer over the years, I just decided I was no longer doing it as it stressed me out but lately solo queue has been so miserable even I am resorting to killer

Snowskull piles are found randomly in a map - there's quite a few areas where you craft your snowballs / snowskulls

If you have not seen a snowman, are you sure you're playing in the Event queue and not the normal queue?

Yeah I am a moron, I wasn't in the correct queue.

Yeah look I am sure there are various factors as @SidneysBane1996 and @Aven_Fallen no doubt accurately pointed out too and I am sure there is truth in that.

But I definitely remember when the matchmaking incentive came into the game it was almost always on killer as it went into the peak evening hours but I almost always get survivor now.

I did have a few times last night where it actually did switch to killer but not for long and it went back survivor.

1 … 9 10 11 12 13 … 49
