When holding shift+w and running forward is still one of the strongest things you can do as a survivor, the skill ceiling is shallow

High level survivor gameplay isn't just shift+Wing though, if you only know that and doing gens that might get you into mid MMR but a good killer will punish that hard, assuming they're not playing a basic m1 killer, which is it's own issue.

I mean it really is, and its unnecessary for the most part. Against comp teams, the massive minority of your matches, it might be necessary. Still not really convinced on this one as I have had my fair share of SWF p100 sweat squads and I didnt do this type of playstyle, granted I lost some as well, but also won. But I would say I am in the minority for this type of play style, I prefer to just ignore most unhook noise notifications, unless its blatantly in my face sure.

Its very easy to say "well if I had tunneled..." when you could reflect a be a bit more observant. You see this if you record your gameplay. "well if I had pressured that side of the map..." "pressured that gen more...." "not chased that one at that point"

If you play like this then you have the tunnel playstyle going, which yea, you will be playing for unhook notifications. You dont really have another option as this is how you decide to play/win. It's extremely unfun and pretty scummy on the survivors end. You definitely dont have to play like this to win in nearly every pub match you join.

I mean if I haven't found any other survivors by the time the unhook happens, of course I'm going to where I know 2 of them are. It's ridiculous not to.

  • Depending what it is, sure. Being oldschool doesn't automatically make it better, just like being modern doesn't make it worse. People just want popular licences regardless.

m3gan would be cool but I dunno how they'd make her unique, but they've done it before.

  • DCs aren't included but giving up and suiciding on hook IS included which is why she's so high. It's basically a useless piece of data because it's so heavily skewed by survivors.

  • There's gotta be a Dark Mode, surely

  • I mean yes currently the perk is unplayable on Trickster and likely a few other killers. That's what BHVR wanted though, to shake up perk usage.

That’s not what is happening. I think most people actually think there’s only one tier list for the entire range of MMR, and that if Nurse is at the top, then she’s broken across the entire playerbase and therefor me should be nerfed.

When in reality, she’s not overperforming overall, and not overperforming at the top 5%.

Then those people are mistaken. From what I've seen most people are rational enough to realise that most tier lists are only directly relavent at the highest level and that at 'normal' skill levels and especially at low MMR, relative killer strength varies far more.

That's why 'pub stompers' are often not particularly strong at higher MMRs.

Again people are free to make tier lists for lower MMRs where, as you say, killers like Nurse and Blight are gonna be really low and killers like Wraith are gonna be really high.

This game should have multiple tier lists. That would, at least acknowledge the fact that some killers change tiers depending on skill level.

People should want to see tier lists that are relevant to their skill level. For example, if someone is mid-MMR, telling them Nurse is S tier is useless, because in the majority of the games they play, killers like Wraith and Legion are going to perform much better than Nurse.

True, and people are free to make tier lists for differing levels of skill. Most people focus on top level play and that's normal.

Any tier list that places Nurse as S tier, doesn't care about the vast majority of the players. If she really was S tier for the vast majority of players, then her pick rate and kill rate would be way higher.

The percentage of players in this game, where Nurse is literally their highest performing killer, or even their top 3 killers, is so very small. And there are so many players in this game are absolutely terrible at playing her.

You literally can't have a tier list for all levels of play. There are killers that absolutely wreck at low MMR and who are pretty weak at high MMR and vice versa. It's generally accepted that most tier lists are from the stance of 'when used to their absolute potential' which generally means the highest level of play, and yes, Nurse is THE strongest killer by a mile at that level.

  • Yeah, even a 'bad' player will get to at LEAST Gold or even Iri if they play enough each month. Likewise a really skilled player may only be at Bronze or Silver if they don't play a huge amount.

I also don't think it's fair to just disregard someone's feedback just because they're new or low-skilled.

  • @ChuckingWong said:

I would suggest just putting up a notification in the lobby screen of whos in whos group that the killer can see. And then giving BP incentive (extra 50-100% or something) if they decide to stay.

The problem is that very few killer players would ever play against a SWF even with a 300% BP bonus. 4-man SWFs especially would never get a game again.

  • The perk is still very strong, but I think the Endurance part of it is actually one of the weaker aspects just because so many killers hit right off the unhook, making it useless.

The Iron Will and Distortion parts though are solid with the endurance added on top.

  • Yes, but I think they're incredibly rare. Most games thesedays are stomps one way or the other with only a few games where both sides are actually evenly matched.

And even then, a game wth 5 similarly-skilled players is -still- not usually gonna be fun for everyone, simply because everyone's definition of 'fun' is completely different.

Some people only have fun if it's a sweaty tryhard game, some people only have fun when it's a chill game, some people only have fun when they stomp others etc.

  • On it's own, no, even with Boil Over you're not going to escape, but in conjunction with sabos, bodyblocks and Breakout, that's when it can actually work.

Otherwise yeah it's just there to stop the killer carrying a survivor the entire game and ruining their fun.

  • I mean the basekit UB was scrapped and that was kinda required for the Finisher Mori to work or else killers would just slug every game. I can't see it happening anytime soon if ever.

  • @HaunterofShadows said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3647024#Comment_3647024

Do killers really get that many grabs? When I played, people let the killer get close, but not THAT close

With no red stain or heartbeat and the low distance you can see, I can't tell the killer is nearby till he's basically already on top of me :p

  • I know I'm not playing it how you probably are intended to but it seems overwhelmingly killer-sided. Any killer can get grabs much easier, Ghostie can expose you much easier, Bubba can be right on top of you before you even know he's there.

  • I've not bought him but whenever I've heard anyone's opinion on them, it's that they're either weak or at best mid. Certainly nothing outright strong and worth using if you're actually trying to win.

  • While MMR can certainly be much better, solo queue is always going to be a mess because there's a miriad of reasons for playing badly. Archives, Meme builds, just having a bad game, could have come back to the game after a long break, duoing with a much higher/lower skill player, new computer setup they aren't used to, 'little brother playing their account' or simply they don't care and aren't interested in playing properly.

Yes bad MMR is a big cause for these kind of things but a lot of it is always going to happen and you kinda just need to deal with it or find a SWF, sadly.

  • If the killer kills a couple of survivors really quickly he may feel bad that MMR put the survivors in an unfair game and so let the last two go. I've done that in some games when it's clear I got matched with babies.

  • It should. Most people don't play DBD to go against bots and if survivors decide they just wanna leave, it's not fair for the killer to end up having to finish a boring game.

  • Some perks will make you REALLY want skill checks, like Hyperfocus and Stake Out, otherwise it's not that big of a deal. If youre really good at hitting Greats then more skill checks can save you a few seconds on a gen but it's much more important to simply not fail skill checks. 4 Greats and one Failed is far worse than just 5 Goods.

  • True, but it's a shame that it requires an addon to be worthwhile and the basekit mechanic they added to try and encourage hooking is just so weak.

  • I mean they pretty much killed the whole 'hooks lock in condemned' mechanic by limiting it to 2. That's just too little and no one is double-hooking as Sadako to get upto 4 because by that point the condemned kill barely does anything.

You still basically just gotta slug like always.

  • I usually dodge when there are multiple high prestige survivors in the lobby, especially if they are TTVs.

I know people will say "p100 doesn't mean skill" but in my experience it nearly always does. Any survivors who are p50+ are usually really good loopers who are way better than I am and when I do decide to give a lobby like this a chance, it nearly always ends up being a miserable game.

I'm not shopping for baby games, those games are miserable too, but if I can reduce my chance of going against WAY better players, then I'm gonna do that for my own mental wellbeing.

  • Giving hatch is certainly not bannable, and from their build it looks like they were hiding to try and get hatch and Ada wasn't happy about that.

I'm more surprised she was using Bond and not Sole Survivor.

  • That does seem odd. If there's one p100 you'd think the killer would avoid them and go after the lower prestige survivors.

  • @Chaosrider said:

Prestige levels still dont relate with skill level.

They usually do though, at least in my experience. p100s or really anyone p70+ is almost always a really good survivor. That's why I'll usually dodge them because anytime I do decide to give it a go I always end up in a miserable game where I'm lucky to get a single hook.

Obviously low prestige levels can still be really amazing but it's super rare for me to find a high prestige survivor who isn't really good.

  • It really annoys me but for the sake of trying to win the match I'll usually still unhook them. Solo queue is miserable enough without throwing the game for something like that, and thankfully I don't see it as often as I used to.

If I'm not in a good mood though I may well just leave them to kill themselves on hook, it's pretty much deserved anyhow.

  • The effect is still just as strong as it was, it was just limited to 2 uses per game. Killers also don't expect it much nowadays so it's easier to get use out of it too.

  • I can see why you'd have issues but I think it's mostly fine as is. It's not considered a very strong perk and if you wanted to increase your chance to win and bring the strongest build possible you'd NEVER bring Lightborn.

If a killer wants to use up one of his limited perk slots with a subpar perk so he can have more fun not having to worry about flashlights, let him.

If you think about it as handicapping yourself by NOT just bringing Pain Res, Pop, Deadman's, Deadlock, or Ultimate Weapon instead, then I'm sure the vast majority of survivors wouldn't mind it.

  • Technically if you want a good 'solo' build, you'd want something like: Distortion, Sole Survivor, Self-Care and Left Behind/Clairvoyance/Wake Up/Calm Spirit

While it certainly wont make you popular, it's the best build in terms of trying to guarantee an escape, while almost any other build relies heavily on how well your random teammates perform.

Sole Survivor and Distortion I'd say are MUST-HAVES for a build like this since they make playing stealthy actually viable, and Sole Survivor even without Wake Up makes opening the gate actually possible if the killer closes hatch. Calm Spirit may be needed depending on how often you come across Ultimate Weapon.

Self-Care isn't needed but if avoiding the killer becomes impossible it allows you to tank a hit.

Left Behind or Clairvoyance are so you can find the hatch easier but if you just bring a blueprint offering you may not need them, and Wake Up just makes opening the gate even easier with Solo Survivor.

  • I mean the game frequently goes on sale for 50% off which makes the base game incredibly cheap, so it isn't hard for anyone to get into. Making it outright free-to-play probably wouldn't bring a massive amount of new players in, though it WOULD make cheater/hackers much more common.

  • Not really. It's a fairly minor gen speed increase which you're not always going to be able to take advantage of. Stacked with Prove and Resi I guess it starts to actually be more useful but that's not Deja Vu at that point, that's three perks that all have different requirements to work.

  • No matter how much you learn, it all depends how good the Nurse player is. You can certainly learn how to try and mindgame/juke decent Nurses but when you're put against a really good one, none of that is gonna work, you're just gonna lose.

Couple that with the fact that solo queue means it's complete RNG how good your teammates are against Nurse and it's just not realistic to expect most teams to have any chance against her.

She needs nerfs so that there's actual things you can do against her.

  • They really need to just remove unhooking yourself unless you have an active Deli. It does FAR more harm than good outside of that.

  • It was a terrible, unfair mechanic that punished a killer who was doing well.

The killer could kill 2 survivors when there's still 2 gens left and the other two survivors could just escape. Or three survivors left alive with 1 gen left, they can just use a zero-skill escape method and completely bypass the last gen and endgame.

It was a ridiculously stupid and unfair mechanic that almost nobody actually liked and should never be brought back. Same as when moris could be used early, it was just stupid and unfair.

  • I thankfully don't go against Boil Over much but it's an incredibly unhealthy perk. The idea of the perk is to make it easier to wiggle out with no help from your team, which is something the game is not balanced around happening much at all. Thankfuly it's not great at doing that in most builds but if you go down in certain places on certain maps, or if you're in a SWF running full anti-hook builds, it's just unhealthy.

I'd also argue that survivors refusing to do gens should be ban-worthy. If they legitimately didn't complete a single gen for 30 minutes that's surely against the rules and holding the game hostage.

  • It can have a massive impact but since most people don't open the gate until everyone is safe, it rarely gets value.

  • She's far healthier for the game now compared to before her rework, and she's no longer any better at holding a 3-gen than other killers like Knight and Doctor.

However, perceptions take a long time to change and she was HATED beforehand, so many people still hate her and wont even try to learn how her new kit works. This is why you'll find many more survivors DCing or giving up on hook against her than any other killer in the game.

To be fair, BHVR has asked in a recent survey if players would be okay with cross progression where your DLC purchases wouldn’t transfer - do at least they are looking into it

True, I forgot about that. It's been so long since they first said they were gonna add it, but hopefully they will actually add it soon, even if it's a slightly watered-down version. I think the VAST majority of players who want it would be fine buying the DLCs again if it meant they kept prestige, cosmetics and BP/shards.

  • Cross progression (which is basically what you're asking about) only exists between Steam and Epic. It's highly unlikely any other form of cross progression will be implemented anytime soon, if ever.

  • If they outright removed the red stain from all killers I feel like looping would be made too diffilcult at high-wall loops. The game is currently balanced with the red stain being a thing so you'd need to compensate survivors if you wanted to remove it.

If you hate it that much you always have the option of playing a stealth killer or running Undetectable perks.

    Sure

I wish good luck to the people responsible to analise whether the player is refusing to play the game or just playing badly

While it would be incredibly difficult to report the players in game, outright saying that you refuse to play against a killer on the forums is much easier to identify as rulebreaking and thus those posts get deleted.

  • By refusing to play against SM. If they play the game for any length of time they will eventually end up against a SM, and thus would then be breaking the rule for non-participation.

  • Gotta trust DBD players to find exploits in everything :p

  • @Rudjohns said:

Interesting how any comments with "I don't play/refuse against Skull Merchant" is deleted

It just add more fuel to my fire

I payed my real money for this game, I refuse to play and not have fun

Because those comments are admitting to breaking the rules and could be seen as encouraging others to do the same. They've locked other threads for promoting breaking the rules too.

but for the really problematic campers, this system changed basically nothing. Leatherface for example can "face-camp" just as well outside of the radius. It is still impossible to get a safe without getting chainsaw'd, so nothing has changed in that regard. The same applies to trickster.

If a killer just stands outside the radius, then that gives the other survivors a far better chance at getting the unhook than if they're standing right there.

Bubba is his own issue with regards to camping and needs changes to his chainsaw power when near a hook but for nearly every other killer it's much healthier this way.

  • @TSQuint said:

Nothing they do is going to work until they implement a point deduction for every 1-5 seconds spent inside 16m and not in a chase or using insidious. With kindred, you can see when some goober stands still before they fade. Even if you don't have it, when it's been nearly a minute and no one else is in a chase, if should be assumed the killer is being lazy.

Technically they already reduce your medal points if you camp so you're less likely to pip. what 'points' are you referring to?
