  • Literally nothing stops a competitive player from choosing casual queue to get easier games. If many people do this and the queues equalise out then there's no point in even having two querues and it needlessly splits the playerbase.

Competitive queues don't do a good job at separating 'tryhards' and 'casuals'.

  • Straight relationships have existed in video games for decades, you just didn't really notice it because it was 'normal'. Why are straight relationships fine but if it's an LGBT character or relationship suddenly it's a problem and 'political'

  • "Video games were better when I could use them to forget gay people existed"

  • They just need to stop adding gen perks, they clearly can't balance them and no one likes them.

Killers hate any perks that speed up gens, survivors hate any perks that slow/block gens.

  • Deadlock, Pain Res and Corrupt are all still decent slowdown perks for almost any killer, and Jolt is solid for all m1 killers too.

    Sloppy is also alright slowdown.

I'm a Chinese Mexican Trans Woman I'm sorry but representation really isn't a huge issue. Like I will literally never experience representation and my life is no different than if I could relate to every character like why is it actually such a big deal that EVERY character needs to be LGBT?

And your feelings aren't universal. Just because -you- don't care about representation, doesn't mean no one else should. Basic human empathy should have taught you that.

  • I understand that you've mentioned you're releasing more throughout the month but it's... odd to release so many on day one but not release the gay and lesbian flags.

  • If you bring any item into a match you have to be aware you may lose it. Even with a white ward you can lose it if they bring Franklin's.

Sounds like she should have just brought a regular flashlight.

  • You -can- do something when you're being tunneled though. You can attempt to loop the killer and waste some of their time.

Also why are you in a deadzone? Your basekit BT and Haste should ensure you can reach a loop against the killer. If you use your speed boost to run into a deadzone that's pretty much on you.

Yes, tunneling sucks and being tunneled feels awful if you're not a great looper, but can we please stop acting like tunneling someone means they just drop dead with no input?

  • I'm happy for you.

    Or sorry that happened.

    Agreed.

DBD Mobile (which is treated completely different as base game DBD because it is managed and run by a company other than BHVR) has it so the player is automatically replaced by a bot, taking all of their perks, appearance, hook state, and position. One can assume that BHVR is going to do the same here.

One thing that Im curious about is if BHVR is going to loosen up DC requirements when this system is implemented, since I still a DC penalty is needed, to not disturb match flow, but it should at least be loosened so busy individuals dont get punished as much if they need to log off.

If someone's busy then they shouldn't be queueing up for a game of Dead by Daylight. If some unforseen emergency happens and they need to DC, then the 5-minute penalty will be gone by the time it's taken care of and come back.

  • It's not a huge deal though, we get more BP than ever before -and- they lowered the price of everything in the bloodweb, so 20k BP every 50 levels is hardly anything.

  • @Pulsar said:

I'm probably, deservedly, in the minority.

However, I think I'm at the point in my Killer career where I just empathize with Survivors. My first thought wasn't, "How dare she" it was "That sucks for both of you, I wish BHVR would design Killers that aren't so miserable to play against that people would rather not play DBD."

The problem is if it's considered acceptable for someone to give up if they see something they don't like then most games will have at least one person who gives up.

Don't like the killer? Don't like the map? Don't like a player's build? Just give up it's okay. You're not having fun so you shouldn't be expected to have to play.

    See the issue?

  • @Anti051 said:

BNP's are pretty problematic. I've reached the point where I put on Franklin's whenever I see 2 or more toolboxes in a lobby lest the match get completely cheesed by those stupid things.

Sadly most survivors use their toolbox on the first gen they find, especially if they have BNPs. By the time you knock it out of their hands it's usually already empty.

  • I mean if they Sprint Burst towards a strong area then I probably wont chase them but if I've already devoted a bunch of time to someone I'll usually stubbornly keep chasing, even though it's usually not the right call :p

  • Both mirror addons are statistically terrible. They're -only- good on indoor maps and good survivors will still be able to play around them. They also completely remove the only thing Myers has going for him which is his t3, you're literally playing an m1 killer and even if you can get an easier first hit, they'll get to a loop and you're screwed.

  • Went against a Skull Merchant earlier and someone DCed the moment they saw her. More understandable that most killers but still annoying. The SM of course -was- a 3-genner and continued to hard-defend her 3-gens even with a DC at 5 gens.

  • @Mat_Sella said:

I always questioned why they made a comic on the most hated killer in the game.

    Skull Merchant has a comic?

  • I mean OP is almost certainly exagurating but you can certainly have all gens done pretty damn quick if the survivors are prepared. The game isn't balanced around 4 BNP genrush builds and all it takes is one decent looper predropping every pallet on the map and the killer is screwed.

Subpar survivors are at a significant disadvantage against Pyramid Head, certainly. More than many other killers. His shockwave is extremely easy to avoid if the survivor is paying any attention at all, and torment trails are completely at the mercy of survivors playing poorly. And his cages - that most feared of powers, that shut off two whole survivor perks - require the survivor to be tormented to even use.

Now that PH's shockwave torments the survivor, his cages are much more likely to actually see use, but it doesn't change how pointlessly weak his trails are, nor how trivial it is to dodge his shockwave in every non-locked situation. People who didn't understand all the weaknesses they baked into PH were the reason why he got a reputation for being so powerful, as well as why he got nerfed so significantly so many times in such a short time period. It's literally the hype.

And that over-hype that stemmed from a lack of understanding has carried over to this day. People will always come out of the woodwork to tell you how PH is actually top of A-tier, if not S-tier, despite the fact that they never actually see people play him. That he's definitely on par with Nurse and Blight and whatever other boogeyman is on the lips of the vox popului. And yet, you never see threads of people complaining about facing non-stop PHs. Nor threads about how PH is their least favorite killer to go against because he's just so common and so powerful and so unfair.

It's just people complaining about Cages. Cages that they themselves allowed themselves to get put in because they ran right through torment trails instead of taking a fraction of a second to sneak through, or go around, or pay attention to the sound of PH planting his blade and just running somewhere else.

PH is mid. He's not special or especially powerful. And people who tell you otherwise are either speaking from ignorance or from a level of skill that trivializes playing as any killer, even the worst of the lot.

If he picks you up and positions himself so if you wiggle out you fall onto his trail, what are you supposed to do then?

Even if the don't move and insta-crouch you still get tormented and then PH just hits you and cages/moris you.

  • Most of these suggestions would just make her a terrible killer. I know people hate her and so it's tempting for your 'rework' to just make her trash and then you can forget about her existing but that's not what a rework is supposed to do.

The huge issue is that she already is a terrible killer in chase even with her slightly increased movement speed, because her drones just don't help much in chase. At best you can drop one to force a survivor out of a strong loop, but if the survivor is injured it doesn't even do that. You -need- to put drones next to gens in order to get value out of them. Even if you aren't 3-genning as SM you still NEED to put drones next to gens or they're just so much weaker and usually ignorable.

Any rework would need to weaken 3-gens but ALSO make her drones more useful in actual chase in a way that makes her actually good in chase overall. It also wouldn't rely on a survivor having a trap on to be chaseable, she should be able to chase a non-trapped survivor well.

  • Exactly why I think Corrupt is overrated. It can be strong, certainly, but it's all RNG.

  • It's quite the double standard really. Killers doing their objective as efficiently as possible ( tunneling) is demonised, while survivors doing their objective as efficiently as possible (gen rushing) is simply considered playing the game well.

I don't think people who do either of these things are bad, since they're literally playing the game as well as possible. It's BHVR's fault that the current game design means the most effective methods are also the most boring the play against.

Survivors understandably hate tunneling because they don't really get to play the game much and end up with barely any BP, and killers understandably hate genrushing because they don't get to play the game much and end up with barely any BP.

The difference is those characters have been ignored from their release. Adam, Jeff, Jake, Yui, Zarina, Haddie, etc. all got very few or no cosmetics following their release (or in the case of Jake, following 2.0.0 when the Store released). David, however, used to get plenty, to the point where he was considered one of the Four Cosmetics Hogs alongside Nea, Meg, and Claudette.

And while he got slightly fewer when Felix released, so he was no longe considered one of the greats, he still had outfits releasing often enough.

Cut to present day, over a year after his gay reveal, and he has received zero store cosmetics that weren't already in the Rift. Zero. Alongside a pathetic two form the Rifts.

He went from one of the greats, even going so far as to receive the special 5th Anniversary collection alongside Wraith, to quite literally Zero.

The only Survivor that has received less cosmetics than David in the past year (including Rift recolours and original outfits) is Elodie Rakoto, who's another can of worms entirely. I'd like to repeat, he went from receiving new cosmetics every month to the second worst for Cosmetics total.

I don't think it's homophobia on BHVR's part, but there's something going on there, you have to admit it's a bit dodgy.

It's pretty odd I'll admit. To be fair I see far fewer Davids in my games then I used to. The last few months I've barely seen any Davids and I can only imagine that's a big reason why they don't bother to make skins for him anymore.

  • @Quizzy said:

I just like to come back to post to remind myself how far we have come. But i get disappointed on how they are ignoring david without new cosmetics and instead give it to feng/meg/nea/kate. Especially with the supposed increased production team. Suuuure.

Tragic how they dispose of a newly lgbt character. And pride month is around the corner. Shame.

I mean there's a LOT of characters they ignore when it comes to skins, I highly doubt it's cause he's gay.

  • @RaSavage42 said:

It won't do that much... given that Survivors can hit greats with no sweat

It that was true then Hyperfocus would be used significantly more.

  • There's no reason a mid killer like Knight needs -that- much counterplay when killers like Nurse and Blight don't :p

Just have the flag dismiss the guard, none of this silly Haste and Endurance stuff.

  • The issue is that Hyperfocus + Stake Out + Busted Toolbox already has the potential of being unfairly strong. Scavenger just reduces the RNG some and buffs the genrush build overall which is questionable because people already hate genrush, why buff it?

  • Most Hex perks create too much RNG for the killer since even with Undying, there's always the chance both totems get found right away and cleansed, and very few killers can effectively defend totems.

Penti is a nice backup but it still requires the killer to go over to it to relight it, AND at least one survivor knows where it is.

Honestly the most reliable hex perk is probably Plaything since you mainly use it as slowdown anyway, banking on survivors cleansing it, and if they don't the oblivious is nice. Even then though, REALLY good survivors wont cleanse it and can handle being oblivious just fine.

  • I was a bit surprised they added a perk that does this. Yes, Built to Last can overall give you about 3 times the amount of charges on a toolbox but that also requires you to go stand in a locker for a while three times which wastes a bunch of time. This new perk allows you to recharge your toolbox to max -while- doing a gen.

The Hyperfocus + Stake Out build will definitely be throwing this perk in too because it's a no brainer, and while the 'genrush' build is pretty rare and fairly RNG, it's also a rather controversial build and buffing it by giving it another really perk seems... odd.

  • You could always play killer and that way you'd never have to play a Wesker game again.

  • The only time I have EVER seen even a slight increase in farming killers is during the first couple days of an anniversary event where there's 4 or 5 cakes/flans. Outside of that, farming killers are pretty darn rare. Maybe if there's an early DC them -sometimes- the killer may start farming but even then they usually don't.

And if you -really- hate farming games that much then just go and point at a hook, usually the killer eventually gets the message and hooks ya. But again, farming is so rare anyway that's it's not really an issue, certainly nowhere close to enough for such a drastic change like removing archives and dailies.

Also most of the time killers farms it's NOT because they're doing an archive or daily, they're just wanting to be friendly or they want more BP, so your solution wouldn't even solve this 'issue'.

  • If killers can get emotes too, I'm down.

    Deathslinger flossing 👌

  • I looove playing this sorta Doctor. Caulrophobia, Merciless Storm, Distressing, Unnerving Presense.

Even better with a Game or Midwich offering 😈

  • I mean if the killer is actually face camping then yeah survivors are gonna be much more likely to just sit on gens and wait for the basekit Deli.

If the killer isn't camping then I don't see how it would be any different than now.

  • Could have healed in a locker with Inner Healing, wouldn't show up on Nurse's.

Or he had a Syringe on a medkit and healed with that.

You started off with 'how bad can it be' and I gave you at least 5 ways the bots are actively worse than a dead or missing survivor.

My biggest concern is that this will be the final answer to addressing any actual issues. Implementing bots will just mean that is the answer moving forward, and the reasons for disconnects will continue to go unresolved. This is a 'temporary band aid' fix that will become permanent, and will define how the game is played, especially if the level of disconnects stays the same (although I expect this to make it worse).

The 'body' I mentioned isn't intending to address any of those issues. I expect things like game balance to be improved, overall quality and fun of games to be a focus for the devs, and ideally reduce the disconnects by fixing things.

Adding in bots is just washing their hands of it and literally telling people that if they don't like it they can just leave and the game will take care of it. I find that to be a fairly unhealthy way to address things.

I also find it to be healthy and perfectly fair to try and hold the devs accountable for the state of the game and want them to make it better in general.

And where did I say you couldn't hold the devs accountable for the state of the game? I know the game has issues and it's in a low-point at the moment and needs some things fixed. The fact is though that until those things get fixed we need something to deal with the rampant disconnects now, and I still think in almost every single game, a poor ai is still leagues better then losing a player completely.

  • @KayTwoAyy said:

I'm typically one who wants to implement features that prevent players from ruining the experience for others, rather than creating incentives to play "more fun."

But this is a game health problem that needs a game health solution.

@Trollinmon is absolutely correct here. You can't bandaid fix this problem by preventing players from hook suiciding. Players who do not want to stay in a game will find other ways to abandon the trial--ways you cannot prevent with any future patch.

Removing self unhook does absolutely nothing to fix the problem.

And I'm not saying this is the only thing they should do. Obviously there are issues in the game and they need to address those and make DbD as fun and enjoyable as it can be. However, they do also need to make it more annoying and punishable to give up and ruin the game for everyone else.

Even if they fixed the games' various glaring issues overnight and the game was in a much better state, you'd still have people who give up and spoil the fun for everyone else. I really don't understand why people are defending players like that.

Making DCing/suiciding more punishing -would- reduce the amount of quitters in the game. Obviously it wouldn't get rid of them completely, but it's a big issue and something needs to be done about it.

We all know how much DCing spikes whenever they turn the penalty off completely, after all.

  • @AmpersandUnderscore said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3433999#Comment_3433999

    Bots have several glaring issues:

    • They're as reliable as nemesis zombies ai, which are notoriously bad at times. They can, and will, get stuck on objects and get caught in infinite loops. And that's without outside influence, they'll do that 100% on their own.
    • Bots are programmed to always make the same actions with the same stimulus, which is particularly abusable by actual players. For example, the bots in custom games will avoid a terror radius. So killers who manipulate that fact can cause bots to pace infinitely and do nothing. Which will be extra fun when there's only one survivor and one bot left in the game. It's naive to think that someone won't find a way to exploit the ai like this.
    • Bots don't think, have no idea of strategy, and can't coordinate with actual players. Good luck breaking a killers 3 gen (that your bot probably created for you) with a bot teammates that runs at the first sign of the killer.
    • You say the bots have wall hacks like that's a good thing. You do realize that's a huge downside, right? Like, actual players can and will use that information against killers in an understandably frustrating way. This isn't just bad for survivors, the system is terrible for the game as a whole.
    • This address none of the reasons people DC. And worse, when the first person does disconnect, the remaining survivors have no incentive to stay if a bot is 'just as good as a player' according to the devs.

A system that would be much less abusable would be to just have the survivor's body stay in the match for about 30 seconds after the player disconnects. That preserves killer perks like on hook effects, blood warden, etc. but doesn't turn an asymm pvp game into a clown fiesta.

I already mentioned that the ai aren't that good, and they're not. They are still far better than just losing a teammate. I don't care if they're awful at looping and go down super fast, they're still doing -something- which is more than we have now where someone DCs and it's basically as if they died.

I also mentioned that I hope they continue to improve the ai so that they're actually more competant, but until we get to that point, if we ever do, I'll still happily take an ai teammate at 5-gens than just losing a teammate altogether.

Also I don't really know what you're solution really solves. The issue with a survivor DCing isn't "oh now the killer won't get Blood Warden or BBQ value', the issue is that now the survivors have basically just lost the game and now they have to play a losing battle. Having a DCed survivor's body hang around for 30 seconds doesnt do anything to solve this.

  • @AmpersandUnderscore said:

Bots aren't solving any problems, they basically exist for killers to be able to trigger perks and survivors to have an additional body that the killer can ignore completely.

Bots are a terrible idea that only create more problems in the long run. It's at best a band aid and at worst a buggy, highly abusable mechanic by both sides.

Can't wait for killers who get trapped in an all-bot lobby because the survivors all quit early, or survivors who are camped to bleed out on the ground for 4 minutes while the bot is stuck, bugged, or just 'given hatch' by the killer.

Without addressing literally any of the reasons survivors are leaving games, this also removes the 'just be a good teammate' incentive to stay in a losing or lost game. If the only thing keeping some people in games is to not leave the team short handed, well... Apparently that's not an issue anymore because bots are now an officially sanctioned replacement for players.

To be fair even with how bad the bots can be, it's still miles better than losing one teammate. At the very least it's someone else on a gen for some time, and someone who can waste a bit of the killer's time.

Also against stealth killers bots are actually pretty strong. They know where a stealthed Ghostface is at all times, for example.

Yes, the bots aren't great, and I do hope they get improved a lot, but having a bot is still much better than a 'dead' teammate.

Well I think if TCM is a good game dbd might lose half the player base. I think ppl are playing this game because there isn't anything else currently. I think the last year couple years have been the worst state this game ever been in, and I've been playing since July 1st 2016.

It depends on why ppl gg go next. Are ppl looking to go next when they see a SM? Players might go down fast and go next out of just being frustrated by how bad the game is overall. Can't really blame ppl wanting to go next vs certain killers.

I do understand partly why people outright give up against SM just because it's literally impossible to win against a proper 3-genning one, and it's one of the only times I don't hold it again people.

Most DCs though are because someone went down in chase too quickly for their liking or because the killer is winning. There's no excuse for DCing or suiciding because of that, it's childish and petty.

It also is not IMPOSSIBLE to win as a 3 v 1 if anything its actually more fun at times. 3 swf + 1 random=random dc but 3 swf is god loopers

You're right, you DCing/killing yourself on hook is actually a -good- thing. You're just making the game more fun for the others and totally not being incredibly childish and selfish. You're totally not delusional. Not at all.

Sure there might be some times ppl would do it but it wouldn't be a prominent issue. Like you removing being able to kobe and those players now afk. You punish afking and those players now sandbag. You don't fix the problem.

There's no way to completely fix a player that just wants to ruin things for everyone else, true. Almost no video game with any amount of player agency has managed that because you just can't. You can however make it more punishing and more annoying to do those things to deter some of those people from doing it.

No, it won't 100% solve the issue but it will reduce the problem which is all BHVR can do. Revamping the report system would be another way to help reduce repeated offenders.

  • @Beatricks said:

The only way you can solve DC/giving up is making a functional matchmaking so players aren't wasting hours of their lives and are actually invested in playing the game. And since BHVR adamantly refuses to implement a matchmaking system that isn't complete irredeemable garbage, we are stuck with this situation. People will give up, throw themselves at the killer, locker spam, go AFK and play another game. You can't force people to play something they don't want to. End of story.

Even with a magically-perfect matchmaking system that always brought 5 players of identical skill level into a perfectly-balanced map and even took into account the power of perks, items and addons, people would STILL throw their toys out of the pram and give up when things aren't going their way.

This is why we need these punishments for people who ruin every else's game.

  • @Trollinmon said:

Making it so you can't kobe still doesn't fix the problem. You can't make players play a game they don't want to play. If they remove being able to kobe then ppl will just afk. They need to fix the reasons players are wanting to go next.

Why have a DC penalty at all then, right?

The fact is that by queueing into a game you're agreeing to play out that game, regardless of how other people play. DCing, killing yourself on hook or just giving up and afking ruins the game for the other players. This is why there are and should be strict punishments in place to deter people from doing these things.

Nope because there are actually challenges/achievements to unhook yourself, I believe unhook 100 times is something for achievers to do.

And by FAR the best way to do that acheivement is to run Deli, which you would still be able to do.
