truth is that killer mains are the loudest voices on the big social media platforms so BHVR caters to their politics for fear of losing profits, since they threaten to uninstall and post melodramatic doom videos the second survivors are given something even remotely useful like fog vials
Quite the opposite, survivor mains are the majority on this forum, it's clear by the upvote/downvote ratio on any post concerning the balance. This is why the game becomes increasingly more survivor favored, as the devs quickly implement any upvoted request and ignore any downvoted opinion.

Maybe in the imaginary other-world where killer mains only run into seal team 6 every game Tunnelling is necessary, in the real world that we actually live in you can win without tunnelling with ease if you’re paying even the smallest amount of attention
You are not dealing with 4 man SWF goof troops every match, going out of your way to win serves no purpose, stop hiding behind the idea of needing to tunnel in order to win
You need tunneling to win against a decent SWF.
You don't need tunneling to win against soloQ.
But if they make tunneling impossible, winning against decent SWFs will also become impossible. As you can see, the problem is once again not in "killer vs survivor" balance, but in "soloQ vs SWF", this is what needs fixing first and foremost.
-
16 hours on the killer means you are still in the baby MMR bracket, where 4k's happen all the time, since brand new survivors don't know how to loop. Play some more until you start getting competent SWFs who will annihilate your hexes within seconds, and will do the last gen just as you are about to relight your pentimento.
-
The whole HEX mechanic is essentially an anti-soloQ mechanic, because SWFs can crack the totems in seconds, since if one survivor saw a totem while in chase - the whole team saw it, which isn't the case in soloQ. NOED also gets cleansed in seconds after activating, because SWFs memorize all dull totems they encounter and coordinate to check the spots after the last gen, instantly spotting if any became lit, which is just impossible in soloQ. So the whole HEX thing should be overhauled to work more consistently for both soloQ and SWF.
-
Finally, some long coming SWF nerfs!

This. Whenever you play nice and let everyone go with 2 hooks, they think the killer is just bad and proceed to instant teabag party and trash talk in the end-game chat. This is why I usually let escape only for those who clearly give up and stop running away, that's the only way to "play nice" and not receive a bucket of toxicity after the game.
-
I like how everyone keeps mistaking "soloQ survivor" for "survivor in general", and when yet another poor soul complains about the insufferable state of soloQ with phrasing like "survivors are too weak", they just make BHVR buff SWF instead, which doesn't really help soloQ but makes killer life miserable, which will in turn bring more killer buffs to balance it out, and that will once again make soloQ life worse. It's an endless cycle of suffering, from SWF buffs meaningless for soloQ, to killer buffs disastrous for soloQ, in which soloQ players are doomed to remain until they finally understand that their worst enemies are SWFs and not the killer, and that SWFs (and the abyss between SWF and soloQ) are the reason why this game is impossible to balance between killers and survivors in general.
-
That survivor could've also eaten a hit with DH before that, get saved by flashlights and crackers, fall down eventually at a pallet, making you busy checking around, and then either use Power Struggle or just plainly stand up with Unbreakable or Exponential. And after you finally manage to hook him, he will hit you with the 59th second DS, and then the cycle will repeat for 2 more hook states, for 3 more survivors. Playing against invulnerable teams like this is impossible, there are too many second chance perks in the game now, and you will have to deliver 4 times as many hits as you would have to without them, taking 4 times longer, while the gens are still the same and take the same amount of time. Basic math shows it's impossible to win against those, unless they make a blunder. Moreover, those second chance perks also get constantly buffed, like the one used in the clip. They say "it's an anti slugging perk", but you clearly see that SWFs never intended to use it to "counter slugging", just like they never use so called "anti tunnel" perks to counter tunneling.

Go ahead and ignore how easy it is to play killer, can win thousands in a row, a thing impossible in any other "PvP" game. I'm very certain and most people with comprehension skills know killers have their hands held seriously. You want your wins given on a silver platter while telling survivors to just play the game.
— Playing killer is too easy, you can get thousands of wins in a row!
— Then why don't you play killer?

Current max killer streak is 1975 wins. Please show me a "bully squad" swf with even one tenth of that as a win streak.
It's pointless to participate in these "us vs them" kind of discussions and not supporting survivors' narrative, since pure survivor mains are a clear majority on the forum, downvoting any kind of opposing opinion, but if you want to know what a "bully squad" is, just play a killer long enough to get out of the baby MMR bracket. But I'm sure you already know it and avoid playing killer for a reason.

That's a very silly question. What does asymmetrical mean in allowing one player to have the ability to deny others from playing or enjoying a game? This is a game. You are not playing against 4 bots, they are human players. Get that straight please.
You said about "power", in 1v4 that one has to be strong enough to play against 4 other players simultaneously, otherwise it's just bullying simulator. No idea what you mean by "denying others from playing the game", but there is a reason why "bully squad" is a real term and "bully killer" is not, since it's only a group that can bully one person, never the other way around.
-
In Orthodox countries, Christmas is in January, and there are no holidays up to the 31st of December. So if you are playing in EU, you have a higher chance encountering someone who does not celebrate in December then someone who does.
@mecca said:
BHVR designed the game so one person can have a huge ego trip over other people. A good game would never allow one person a power role over other players because it gets abused.
What are you doing in an asymmetrical 1v4 horror game then? Besides, it's usually the other way around: 4 people on comms bully one player, who can't even leave without a penalty (unlike those 4).
-
It's also funny how people who defend DC penalties get angry when their teammates who want to go next throw the game and die instead of just DCing and giving the team a bot. If not for the DC penalty, you would get bots more often than just dead teammates, but causality here seems to be too hidden and complex for some.
-
@Classic_Rando said:
Just no. Every time the DC penalty has been temporarily disabled in the past, the game has become literally unplayable for everyone. Every match had players DC-ing for the most minimal reasons.
If you’re having issues with your network, take care of that problem before playing PvP games. Individual network issues are no reason to ruin the game for thousands of other players.
Every time the DC penalty has been temporarily disabled in the past, the game has become literally unplayable for everyone
DC penalty was disabled for years starting with the release of the game until they eventually implemented it for the first time. Does it mean the game was LITERALLY UNPLAYABLE FOR EVERYONE for several years? How did it even survive then?
-
They also should add the ability to abandon for the killer when all the gens are done, because this is often a hopeless situation if there are more than 2 survivors remaining. Or at least when the exit gates are open, because in 99% of the games it's just 2 minutes of waiting to teabag at the killer's face, with no gameplay value.
-
Trapper, Skull Merchant and Nurse (because of the rubber-banding bug and the amount of 'subtle' cheaters with speedhacks)

Interesting how Killers lose their #### over waiting two minutes for Survivors to leave, but they're fine with waiting twice as long for Survivors to bleed out.
Nice strawman. I didn't say it's fine, I said that it's only fair to provide the killer the same ability to save their time in the same kind of hopeless situation, when in actuality only survivors have this luxury now.

???????? thats because people like to overly slug people and bleed them out. literally a consequence of killer players actions. they added it because they said they value people's time. not because the game is survivor sided AHA
you dont think survivors had to endure being humped for 4 minutes straight? or being picked by a teammate and the killer insta smacking you back on the ground? lmfao
So bleeding the killer of his sanity for 2 minutes of teabagging at the gates is fine then? They value survivors' time, but not the killer's, that was the whole point: symmetrical situation, but different privileges, survivors get to quit the moment they fall on the ground, even if the killer has no intention to slug for 4 minutes, so that dear survivors can skip the mori animation and thus protect their ego, but the killer can't do anything against a bully squad but to obediently endure the humiliation procedure. Survivor sided design, QED.

You think the cheaters are going to pay for cosmetics if BHVR built up stronger checks against it? They are more likely to move on to a new game completely than spend money on DBD.
My bad, I've accidentally read "cheaters and cosmetics bring money" instead of "chapters"
-
@Crowman said:
The answer is simple. Does having people work on detection tools built into DBD's code to detect when impossible actions occur and do something about that make money? No it doesn't. Chapters and Cosmetics bring money.
Most of the cheaters don't even bring money (at least not to BHVR, unless they themselves sell the cheats lol), since they keep using that endless supply of free EGS accounts and unlock everything with cheats (which is also somehow possible, their back-end doesn't even protect their main source of money).
-
At least you were lucky to encounter the blatant, obvious cheaters. The 'subtle' ones who only use a slight speedhack or push the peddle in specific times (like when they think they are not seen or while the Nurse is blinking) are the worst. Not only you have to chase them to understand it's pointless, they will even have their whole team defend them just because of the survivors' us vs them default mentality, even if they are not in SWF with the cheater.
But I absolutely agree with the post, I've been talking for years about the server-side validation of player actions and how it would make most of the cheats just impossible even without any anti-cheat, but people just kept saying something like "it's the anticheat problem" or "it's an eternal race against cheaters smh". It seems because of the global ignorance about software architecture DbD's cheater problem has always been underestimated by the community, I think if the content creators spoke out about this years ago, we would have at least something implemented by now. But instead they demand to nerf the Nurse (who suffers from speedhacker the most) and just brush off the cheater problem with the same excuses listed above, making it seem like the devs can't do anything about it.
-
There is an undeniable objective proof that DbD is indeed survivor sided: the abandon mechanic.
Survivors get to abandon whenever they are outplayed. The killer has no such luxury. The killer only gets to abandon if he wins and all the survivors already abandoned before him. Otherwise, the killer has to endure whatever humiliation survivors decide to throw at him, including the two minutes of teabagging at the gates, while survivors can even skip the mori animation, because of their high survivor privilege. If this is not a survivor-sided mechanic, then I don't know what is.
-
With the current state of the game balance, tunneling is a necessary condition for just having a chance at winning against a competent SWF on comms. They will run 16 second chance perks and take 7 hits for each hook state each, making it only possible to secure a kill if you just focus one guy. You will finish consuming his endurances and hastes just when they pop the last gen, if you are lucky. If tunneling becomes impossible, but SWFs continue to be allowed to the general queue and second chance perks are not nerfed, the kill rate will drop to 5% at the higher MMR brackets, and these 5% will be due to the cheaters with insta kill bots.
If you are tired of playing survivor - just play killer, and after a few 4k's and leaving the baby MMR bracket you will start encountering the invincible quartets and the Achaemenid immortals I'm talking about, you will quickly change your mind after hitting a guy 8th time in a row and still failing to actually hook him.
-
Lightborn
Insidious
Deadlock
Corrupt Intervention
The strat: hide in a corner in shame and hope the survivors will give you some pity kills in the end. Works more reliably than trying to use your power.
-
SoloQ is a nightmare difficulty for dbd. If you value your time and sanity, either find 3 friends, or switch to killer. The latter option can also be frustrating when being matched against SWF (which happens 90% of the time, since almost no soloQ survivors remain in this game), but can be circumvented by playing mobile killers, using lightborn or just giving up on hopeless games.
-
Something definitely happened to their parody of an anti-cheat recently: just today I encountered two different full cheater lobbies with the usual "subtle" speedhacks, hyperfocus, etc, who didn't even deny it in the chat. That's not big news for this game, what surprised me was them being on steam instead of the usual EGS. So they are not afraid of getting their steam accounts banned now? Because I don't remember a free giveaway of DbD on steam. Seems like cheater bans are back to full-manual mode now.

You sound like one of those BHVR devs ;) "Maybe you should play civ!". Meanwhile completely ignoring the problem. People are here cause they see the potential and WANT to play DBD… but the devs keep going in directions that the players don't want. Maybe you should get on board with everyone else trying to improve the game. Just saying.
You miss the point. Bullying other players IS the game, by design. As survivors, it's more fun to bully the killer with flashlights/flashbangs/pallets/DSs/exhaustion perks, as OP described. As the killer, it's more fun to return the favor, like tunnel, camp, slug, nod, walk on them. This is the actual game DbD was all along, and the end-game chat is your scoreboard, showing you how well you did: more salt - more style points.

You know it's BHVR when even the bug report form is bugged.

At this point the blatant cheaters bother me less. The ones that wreck your sanity are the subtle ones. In a multi-hour session it is very likely you’ll hit matches where gens melt for no clear reason or a killer yanks people from lockers across the map with zero info perks. Keep it faint, call it “reads” or “efficiency,” and it slides right through.
Subtle client-side tricks have been the meta for years because there’s no meaningful, automatic server authority to choke them out.
The business side is the elephant in the room. Anti-cheat and netcode refactors don’t sell. Skins do. That’s why the next Feng or Sable outfit ships faster than any backend audit. Compare that mindset to studios like Sandfall Interactive or Larian, who actually protect the core loop even when it isn’t sexy marketing.
I’d love to be wrong. Prove it: real server-side validation, real telemetry, real replays. Until then, expect more “gut feelings” and “lucky reads” winning games.
Prove it: real server-side validation, real telemetry, real replays.
They had 10 years to 'prove it'. At this point we can just take the 'subtle' speedhackers as the requested nerf to the Nurse
Deadlock, a game by a much smaller company (by the amount of employees) already had all of it within a year of early development (they even have complete global stats about every match available to everyone, not requiring to wait for the devs to 'drop' some powerpoints once in a while, you can watch a full demo of any game of any other player, not just yours).

Apparently, you have to hit the HAT of a snowman with a fully charged snowball, this is what worked for me. You have to get the "bullseye" event instead of "nice try". I found it completely accidentally, and still not sure whether it's a bug or it's really supposed to only count "hat kills".

@itsquiet27 said:
high ping is a HUGE disadvantage as both survivor and killer. as survivor your button inputs become delayed in game so when you loop and window vault it's slower. when you are killer you get "fake" pallet stunned so when you should be getting a hit at a pallet that a survivor throws at the same time you M1 if your ping is red bar the survivor wins it and makes an injured sound effect but the hit doesn't register and you get robbed due to the ping. so for the most part it's a major disadvantage to play high ping.
With a simple lag compensation, which DbD seemingly has, high ping favors the proactive side, the one that shoots or chases, since it's easier to catch up if you see a delayed image of your target, and it's enough to hit the client-side image for the server to count it as a legit hit (which is the case in DbD). In shooter games it leads to the "how did you kill me when I was behind the wall" effect, which works both ways as all players can shoot, but in DbD high ping obviously gives a huge advantage to one side. In decently made shooter games, however, there is a limit of how much a delay is allowed for the lag compensation to work, specifically to combat abusers, and there is nothing like this in DbD: if you have a 30000 ms ping, you will see half a minute old image of survivors, and still be able to hit them through it.

Most likely a cheater. I say that because I highly doubt a dev would be on console and cheaters can give themselves whatever they want, including Legacy.
This is probably not a console, but EGS (if OP is on steam). 98% of cheaters play on EGS accounts due to the free giveaway that gave them inexhaustible supply of new accounts. So yeah, most likely a cheater.

I doubt they can do any revoking of those Epic accounts from that disastrous free promotion years back.
From what I gather, their servers don't do even basic sanity checks, looking for & maybe even recording impossible speeds or jumps etc.
They could lock EGS accounts in their exclusive matchmaking, not intersecting with the regular cross platform with any settings. This could be easy to implement and would reduce the problem for the general playerbase.
Of course, adding server validation would be the proper solution, but at this point we can't even hope they are able to do it. We now need to give them suggestions that are not only good, but also easy and quick to implement, because anything complex always gets postponed indefinitely until they try to implement it, screw it up completely and then revert it.

It's seriously bad.
Pointless to complain about tunnel/slug/camping when they can just do whatever they want regardless.
Make the game server side.
It's the only way reduce cheaters. The game is already "server side", it just lacks server validation for simple player actions. It seems the devs lack the capability to update their server code to include this validation, since it's 10 years of spaghetti code in there. The best they could do now is to revoke all the free EGS accounts, as it's where the majority of cheater accounts come from: this would not solve the problem completely, but at least it would be within the capacity of bhvr.
-
It definitely feels like the pallets are inexhaustible now. No matter how many pallets you eat, there is always another one, and there are always a few more when the gens are done.

It sounds like you've learned how to play Nurse, and neglected the fundamentals of any other regular killer. Of course you're going to be doing a lot worse than with her, since she plays incredibly differently.
The killer specific MMR is only a minor difference, since most killers have transferrable fundamentals, they're not going to put you against new players for picking a less-played killer. However, in your case, you haven't built up those skills, so it's going to feel like whiplash.
My advice, keep at it, but try not to care too much about winning or losing initially. It'll be a nightmare for a while, but your skill will develop and your MMR will end up in a more fair position.
Learning the killer fundamentals will open up the other 40 killers in the game, and there's a lot of fun to be had there. You'll be much better off in the long run if you don't put all your eggs in one floating basket.
The killer specific MMR is only a minor difference
Doesn't seem like it, yesterday I had a game against a survivor who had 8 hours in the game. Didn't seem like they were in SWF. So I actually get matched with fresh-new baby survivors, who somehow know how to rush gens and juke Blight (not that one specifically, but others in the same queue, i.e. in the same MMR bracket).
-
Don't worry, the content creators have already demanded to nerf the Nurse, so yet another Nurse nerf is coming as we speak. They haven't complained about the Blight and Ghoul though, so you have to enjoy them for a bit longer.
-
Every month we get "The game is dying" crying, and yet the playercount is growing and growing. While there is no competition, this game is immortal, as the players will have to put up with anything due to the simple absence of choice.
-
Yet another challenge only doable in SWF, just like the first archive all over again.
-
Slugging for 4k can be elegantly fixed by just removing the hatch altogether. The hatch race is really annoying both for the survivor and the killer.
Alternatively, it can be replaced with an option for the killer to spare the last survivor or not, by pressing a button, without the race. This way the last survivor still can escape if they deserve it, without the need to do the remaining gens.

Billy is kinda dash killer to but his power is well done and nurse has most op power because she is even slower than survivors running speed so she is just all about her power and nothing more (the slower the killer is the more he is reliant on his power to get something done like chucky, huntress, slinger, spirit) but she still needs to not see auras when she is charging her blink just like spirit and she will be solid and more fair for her number 1 killer spot (auras are her problem and thats why weskers perk was nerfed because her blink attacks were m1 hits so exposed with aura read meant wallhack with teleport plus oneshot which was fixed but not that much).
My point was, they are strong, but it doesn't feel cheap when you get hit by their powers. Especially by Nurse, since she is suffering by several severe bugs for 2 years so far and counting, like the rubber banding bug that can just steal your blink attempt out of nowhere. Meanwhile, whenever you get hit by your usual dash slop, it always feel like the guy just pressed a button and got you, without much effort. This is why dash slop is hated.
for her number 1 killer spot
She is no longer number 1, that's the Blight's place now. Nurse is number 2 at most. She lacks map control due to slow map mobility, which makes her easy to genrush, while Blight's map control is unmatched. Beside already mentioned bugs, she is also the most sensitive to "subtle" speedhackers, as just a few percent of speed increase can make it impossible to catch up to the survivor who is holding W. Meanwhile Blight is the most tolerant to speedhackers, since no "subtle" speedhacker can outrun the Blight. Yes, we now have to account for cheaters when we discuss game balance, as they are now so frequent they are part of the base game at this point. So no, I don't think the Nurse needs another nerf, at least not until her bugs are fixed and her basekit reverted to the original form.

Problem is what is good killer in these days, he has to have mobility and good power made from many smaller ones like springtrap to be even mediocre and easiest and most effective way for killer to work and wont be rejected by community as skullmerchant is dash power ( thats respected even if the killer is op like blight).
Billy and Nurse are the definition of good killers. Just give a strong power that is difficult to pull off. Instead, they now give every other killer a simple "press X to catch up" power that doesn't require a smallest fraction of skill to use.

Worst thing I see about all this that there is never new perks ever being added to the free General perk pool unless it's from a license chapter that's being removed. So it's always a good thing for new players as they'll get access to these perks without having to pay real money to get them.
Think the killer perk Scattered Hope been the only perk that's ever been given freely but no one ever uses that trash perk.
Obviously, no incentive to make out of the box free functional content like perks and characters. Moving licensed perks to the common pool instead of leaving them as a legacy thing only for those who had a chance to grab them is generous enough already.
