  • Depends.

If you go into a solo match, survivor can become quite stressful as you have less control over what you’re teammates will play like.

Will they take a hit? Will they heal? Will they touch a gen? Etc.

In general I feel like when you have control over something it is less stressful. I find playing killer very easy and some killers don’t require hardly any skill unless the survivors are actually very good.

  • Prayers Beads gotta go.

  • Clearly you gotta just laugh at those type of players and just move on.

Unfortunately at the moment the game cannot define “griefing facecamping” vs “strategy facecamping”... so they probably will not do anything about it if you report it.

The best thing you can hope for is that your teammates work on gens and are smart enough to know when they should attempt to unhook, and hopefully one of them will have BT.

This is one of the biggest reasons solo surviving sucks. You can’t communicate to your teammates that you’re dealing with someone who is just a griefer.

  • @Fibijean Chucky at least sounds like an adult trapped in a doll.

Legion sounds like an annoying teenager.

I think he just means that he's not that intimidating. Put in a game like DBD, where people are barely scared of chainsaw-wielding psychopathic cannibals who wear the faces of their victims, a doll killer would feel like an utter joke where atmosphere is concerned.

@Fibijean You mean kind of like Legion?

  • As others have said, you need to see those two add ons with Thana/Dying Light/Sloppy Butcher.

I don’t think it’s OP. It’s a real drag and annoying when they do things like camp and slug on top of all that.

  • Survivors performing an unsafe unhook isn’t the only reason some people tunnel though.

There are also killers who tunnel simply for bringing a specific item, for example.

Sometimes a farm off the hook is also necessary if the killer is proxy/face camping. So that player has somewhat of a chance.

  • Imagine thinking survivors were the reason Nurse was nerfed.

I’ve seen plenty of killers complain about Nurse for a long time.

IMO Spirit’s add ons don’t need to be upped in rarity... have you seen how easy it is to get rares? They need to change the bloodweb system so we are not seeing an ultra rare in every single page.

  • Personally I think you can really only dissect it on a case by case basis.

Why? Because if you are dealing with a Wraith with no Ruin, unable to get from one side of the map, he is going to have more trouble than. Freddy running Thana/Ruin/Pop with a built in teleport and ability to spam snares at will cutting the chases in half.

For me generators speed are fine because there are many tools to allow to slow them down. If they were to slow down the speed... builds like the one pointing above would become disgustingly OP.

The problem I feel lies in the accessibility of powers for SOME killers. They gave Freddy like 2 different killer powers in one. Smart choice but now you have him looking too OP against other killers who really needed a buff (whether it be on mobility or variation in their power).

The other thing that people often don’t discuss in these forums that I’ve noticed is skill level gap. It’s crucial to understand that you can’t really go into a match without even slightly pressuring gens. Many people have posted videos as “evidence” and while I don’t want to assume it is very clear from the videos that they missed the mark on this objective as killer.

List some other scenarios of the Key being used on the Hatch? Those are the only four I could think of. I guess there is also "use it by yourself after all gens are done," but that seems downright counterproductive.

@TAG What I think you are not seeing is how you can’t just escape simply because you have met the amount of gens repaired.

Many times it boils down to the killer...how good they are... what they are running...what map you’re on... etc. Keys are still unpredictable because you might get found before you can even use them.

Which is why I said not every match will have the same result just because someone has a key. Especially in solo surviving.

Also the other point is these are suppose to be ultra rare, to me something that is deemed to be that rare better do something amazing.

  • @TAG said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/776612#Comment_776612

Keys are used in one of four ways as far as opening the Hatch:

    1) All Survivors have finished the gens and are still alive, so they use the Key to escape at the end of the game.

    2) One or two Survivors have died, and someone is using the Key to jettison the entire remaining party with gens left unfinished.

    3) One or two Survivors have died, and someone is using the Key regardless of whether their teammates are nearby because screw it I want out.

    4) Everyone else is dead, the Killer has closed the Hatch, but luckily for that last Survivor, they still have a Key to pop it back open and still make the escape.

IMO, Scenario 1 is fine because the game is already in the final stage, and at that point, it's just an alternate method of escape.

Scenario 4 is also fine because at that point, the Killer has basically already won the game, and the last Survivor is just ensuring that they can at least salvage things for themself.

Scenario 2 is the big issue in my book because the Survivors are just shortcutting to the end of the game through no additional necessary effort and with no way for the opposition to really fight against it. It's just suddenly...done.

Scenario 3 is also sorta problematic but less so than Scenario 2 because while the Survivor in question is securing an early escape and allowing for the opportunity for the rest to escape, the fact that they are just going for it regardless of what the other Survivors are doing means that the Killer has a semi-reasonable chance to cut off escape for those Survivors.

You want context? There's your context.

The fact of the matter is that by just having a key, you are placing yourself in an noticeably advantageous position to end the game early in your team's favor (or at the very least, not in the Killer's favor) with no downside or no extra effort needed. That just ain't fair in my opinion.

@TAG And yet there are more scenarios involved than you you list.

What you describe are only a few ways the key could get used. Most of the time people won’t just leave through the hatch unless it’s the only way out. Especially since having 3 gens and two teammates alive means nothing because the killer still has the upper hand.

This is still just your opinion. Nothing more. As I said before we’ll just agree to disagree because I don’t think they are as broken as you think.

  • Your English is very good by the way.

As for the Tall Man idea I am not familiar with the character but he seems pretty creepy/ interesting. Now I have to watch this movie. 😯

Easy matches are better than impossible matches, and that's exactly what was happening with the old SWF system, and it's still the best option until the devs finally stop dodging the issue and actually bring killer, solo and swf all on the same level.

    @thatguyinktown To each their own.

If you think this brought killers to swf level, then why all these posts about "swf are op" that are still around?

  • @[Deleted User] said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/777762#Comment_777762

Why should someone who just got the game yesterday have a *reasonable expectation* that they do well at the game immediately?

@thatguyinktown I don't think they would do well with a low rank killer either, but as someone who also plays killer I don't want to be paired up with someone less than half my rank let alone my skill.

Sorry, but again... this is a band-aid on the problem not exactly a "fix". I don't like easy matches.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/777740#Comment_777740

Exactly, but those survivors know what they're getting into and agree to it. The killer does not agree to go against your mismatched SWF.

    @thatguyinktown That's not an excuse.

It doesn't change the fact that a killer with 3k+ hours is facing someone who just got the game yesterday. That is just putting the target on someone else not fixing the problem.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

With all the advantages comm'd swf have over killers, I have no sympathy for these survivors. The hypocrisy of being upset over being matched against someone far above their rank? Too much.

@thatguyinktown You do realize that even with comms a new survivor isn't going to know what you're talking about when you communicate with them right?

The hypocrisy I see is people using the word "bully" so loosely as if this is High School or something (where being a bully is actually a real issue), and only caring for one side getting "bullied". There is a clear advantage in playing against someone below your rank.

So the problem is still there, it was just flipped.

  • I mean I get it.

It effs up the team, but I get it.

  • No. No one is forcing you to go to a gate and look.

  • When you read this without the context inside... I kept thinking "Find another clean one then." 🤣

    Anyway... could be a bug?

  • Queue in a solo survivor match.

  • @TAG said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/776587#Comment_776587

I didn't say every match plays out the same. The point is that you need to look at them in the context of how they affect trials when they are in play, not simply in the context of how often someone will run into an opponent using one.

@TAG As I said before again and again... I do look at the context of how they are used. Which is why I agreed with @Mochan 's post.

You can't determine if the odds are going to be in your favor SIMPLY because of the usage of an item.

The only reason I brought up how often you think you see them is because that is relative to the conversation. They are categorized as "Ultra Rare", meaning you shouldn't be seeing them in the bloodweb as often as you do.

  • @FancyMrB said:

Just like with moris, its part of the game and is fine the way it is. Does it suck when it happens to you? Sure, but just move onto the next game.

I might see a key escape once every other week. They are not frequent and honestly if you play a decent game its a non-issue. 3 swf need to complete 4 gens for the hatch to spawn. You have 4 gens worth of time to disrupt and kill. Plus if you see a key, bring Franklins. Yes I know its not a direct counter but it sure messes up survivors plans and causes further delays.

I see people bring keys in all the time at the end of match... and they never got the chance to use them.

    @FancyMrB

Apparently there is an island... where every survivor brings a Skeleton key. Every killer brings an Ebony Mori. I just can't seem to find it on the map.

  • @TAG said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/776545#Comment_776545

I have a problem with both, and thus I think both should be nerfed. Increasing the rarity doesn't solve the problem because it does not change how problematic either one is in an individual match.

@TAG Yeah cuz every single match is the same. I've escaped when the killer had an Ebony Mori, and I've also died when I had a skeleton key. Go figure.

  • @TAG said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/776535#Comment_776535

Neither side should have access to that. Nerf keys and Moris.

@TAG I don't have a problem with Ebony Moris either, so this is where we're gonna agree to disagree.

That's why I want neither nerfed.

Should they be made more uncommon? Sure. By all means. I think the Bloodweb system for ultra rare things is busted as it is. A player should not be seeing these on every single bloodweb page.

  • @TAG said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/776525#Comment_776525

I said "no extra effort required," not "no requirements."

    @TAG And why should they?

Why should they when the killer side has something that can equally if not more take you out of the game early?

  • @TAG said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/776421#Comment_776421

The problem isn't that a Key is a guaranteed escape (because it's not). The problem is that it can cut the game short to the benefit of one side with no extra effort required and with no downsides.

    @TAG And doing 5/4/3 generators isn't a requirement?

As Mochan said, performing a Mori actually requires less objective time.

  • @Mochan said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/774913#Comment_774913

Sure, let's talk fairness, because you seem to be arguing that Ebony Mori is a lot fairer than a key.

Let's look at how much work is cut out with an Ebony Mori.

In a normal game, you need to hook each survivor 3 times. That's a total of 12 hooks. With an Ebony Mori, you only need to hook them once each. 4 hooks. You just cut the work you needed to do by 66%.

Fine, let's count downs instead of hooks. By downs you are reducing the work needed by 33%. And reducing a lot of the back and forth walking to the hooks. Further, you can eliminate the first survivor very quickly just by tunneling him off hook. Reducing survivor count to 3 makes the game vastly easier for you. So it's 33% and then some.

    Now how about keys?

A normal game requires 5 gens to be done.

For 4 people to escape, you need 5 gens done. No work was saved. Might as well just escape through the doors, frankly. Its easier. Looking for the hatch when the exit gates are powered is actually harder than just opening the gates and walking out.

For 3 people to escape, you need 4 gens. That's only a 20% reduction at worst. There is also no shortcut for the survivors. No walking time is cut down. IN fact, they need to walk a lot more to find the gen. And the logistics needed to get everyone there at the same time to jump into the hatch at the same time.

So for you to "lose" (3 or more survivors escape) the best case scenario is 20% reduction int he requirements. That's not even up to the 33% reduction for downs required by the killer on a Mori..

Now to "tie" with 2 escapes you need 3 gens done. That's a 40% reduction in work for the survivors. But all it ends up in is a measly tie. You still will likely kill two of them.

But you know what? Realistically speaking most of the time only one survivor will even get to the hatch. And in fact, many times the key is just wasted and none of them get to the hatch and you kill all of them! Its not even a guarantee.

Because using keys is not easy.

And yes, it's possible no gens are done and the last survivor still escapes. So what! The killer won. The killer killed 3 survivors. So one escaped. Big deal. Usually the killer will catch the guy with the key anyway. The counterplay to a survivor with a key is present.

There is no way to counter a mori. Other than to play an almost perfect game and nobody is ever hooked and downed more than once.

So yes, let's talk about "Fairness."

    @Mochan

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

This is exactly what I’ve been saying!

People in these forums just love to complain about things with no context of what took place during the match, because as long as they had a bad match where someone escaped with a key “It’s unfair”.

Yesterday alone I died 4 times with a key in my hand. A key doesn’t automatically guarantee an escape. Period.

  • Slugging is for sweaty players, and I agree OP... they should implement a built in unbreakable at some point if you've been slugged twice or something.

  • Sometimes being competitive is fun though... so I don't understand.

Also, the problem is you never know who/what you're gonna get until you're in the match... this is on either side. Imagine you go in with the mentality "Oh yeah I'm gonna play chill this round".... and you get a Spirit who just got demolished in her previous game.... and brought Prayer Beads and an Ebony Mori. You'll never know until you're in there.

  • @Mr_K said:

@Johnny_XMan You used dead hard but you were already hit. The server already marked you as down.

@Mr_K So how does your explanation explain how it sometimes does work?

I have literally seen the start of the DH animation before it gets interrupted by a hit. Which shouldn't be a thing.

If the server is connected to how the perk reacts... that is a problem. Something is there that wasn't there before and I'm not the only one experiencing it.

  • @Mr_K said:

Nothing is wrong with the perk. It's just the killer already swung and hit you before the server could give you enough warning about it.

Dead hard is a perk you time by knowing the delay between you and the killer. The killer's ping is hidden from you so you can't tell if they are really laggy to the server or have a decent ping.

@Mr_K There is definitely something wrong when I am clearly in the Dead Hard animation with exhaustion and it gets interrupted by a hit.

The perk itself is suppose to avoid incoming damage. As in, act like a dodge.

  • I don’t see a problem with keys atm.

Not when it has a condition attached to it and ebony mori still exists.

  • @Zixology said:

    I never run it.

It's success depends on the quality of the connection of the killer. I'd much rather run Balanced Landing since I actually have control over it.

@Zixology I thought with Dedicated Servers in place it's actually not based on a host of the killer's connection tho?

  • @itsmetimohthy said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/774870#Comment_774870

Yeah definitely not the only one. Even when I play killer I sometimes see a Survivor get the DH shakes on the ground. I wanna say it’s because Dedicated Servers but it happened before them to me so who knows.

@itsmetimothy Yep. It looks like the start of Tenacity or something?

I saw crawling faster than normal for the first 2 seconds while on the ground. lol

  • I guess it would be nicer if they actually involved people in the process though.

I mean if they want to use liver servers to test something. I would expect somewhat of a memo on what to test, cuz otherwise it turns into a rising issue after issue which isn't fun.

  • @itsmetimohthy said:

Oh, I stopped using that a couple days ago. I can’t count high enough for how many times I get the Dead Hard shakes on the ground. Maybe one day it’ll get fixed but hits in general are busted right now so who knows 🤷‍♂️ I recommend switching it for something else.

@itsmetimohthy Honestly I would but it was my go-to exhaustion perk because of how I play... (usually I like to be chased). Lately it has gotten to the point that I just estimate double the distance from where a killer would normally swing because of how many times I get exhaustion from these ridiculous hits.

I've been trying Lithe again because its the only one I am comfortable using outside of DH. Glad to know I'm not the only one seeing this issue.

  • It is still playable without Ruin. Sometimes Ruin is just a waste because of it’s spawn location.

You can’t really only rely on survivors making mistakes you have to make sure YOU are not making mistakes either because if they aren’t making mistakes one of you is.

You will not win against a well coordinated team if you aren’t out smarting them. I don’t care if you have 5 ruin hexes lying around.

  • When you say 3 perks can cover a specific killer, what exactly do you mean?

So far I’m not really understanding what you are asking.

  • Personally I find versing Hillbilly fun. Terrifying but fun.

  • @S_Panda said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/772693#Comment_772693

I really hate that situation: the killer has to 'go easy' just cause someone else rage quit meanwhile if the killer isn't that great do survivors ever hold off on the final gen while all 4 are up and full healed? Or even maybe give a free hook if they haven't even been while sitting at the exit waiting to leave because they never leave when they have the perfect opening to?

I personally don't want to lengthen such a match anymore where I already lost a bbq token and points after many people then going "I'll drop a pallet and jump back and forth now dc as well". Once had 2 do that and a remainder go "why not just farm?"...like I'm already getting less than half of what I could get why would I waste more time on that?

@S_Panda What I am wondering though is how do you equate an entire DC with a skill level gap.

I mean, I don’t expect the killer to go easy on anyone even on a 3v1 but having played killer myself I understand how much easier it is to deal with 3 vs 4. It isn’t rocket science.

So what can the killer do? Nothing. Play the game how you want. Even including resorting to scummy tactics. I personally don’t have fun because it isn’t challenging enough for me.

  • I wanna know which part of the world these people live in.

Cuttently almost back at red ranks and I keep seeing Clowns, Clowns, Hillbillies, Hags, Huntresses...like am I just lucky?

I say bring all Spirits out. The more the merrier. You’re gonna dc when the Clown downs you with pinky finger ANYWAYS.

    🙄

  • You’ll be surprised what people will do to get the totem... including but not limited to death.

  • They are just trying to make that coin, like everyone else.

@CrowFoxy I agree, I Watch some people play but to me I judge on how they play not what they say. Not saying they don’t have a point to make but that’s the beauty of DBD not everyone needs to agree on everything.
